Cleaning Out My Clothing Hoard

Standard
Cleaning Out My Clothing Hoard

Hey!! One thing that I have a really difficult time doing is letting go of clothing. I have a dresser and closet filled with gorgeous clothes that are certainly pretty to look at, but some of them really just don’t belong anymore. Whether that be from the clothes not fitting the best or I haven’t worn it in years, I never know when I might need it! 😉 Hence, a massive clothing hoard that needed to be tamed.

On the day after Christmas, I spent my time going through my closet and dresser and selecting clothes to sell to Plato’s Closet. It was hard!! There were pieces that I had in mind to add to my Plato’s bag, but when the time came to remove it from the hanger and fold it, it was like my feet became super glued to the floor. I knew that I needed to purge my closet but, damnit, I really didn’t want to!

Despite massive cold feet about my closet clean out, I managed to fill a whole bag to bring to Plato’s Closet. How, you might ask? First, the clothes that didn’t fit well were an automatic toss into the bag. Then, I took a deep breath, really tried to measure how many times I’ve worn the piece in the past year, and made my decision based on that.

The first few times that I had to make a decision to keep or toss was so difficult because, of course, you want to keep everything! But, then you think about why the clothing is taking up space in your closet if you’re not using it and it just makes sense to rid yourself of it. It really seemed like a “now or never” type of situation and even though I had a hard time, I was committed to completing my project in the now.

I took my clothes to Plato’s Closet and got twenty-five bucks for the clothes that they wanted the day after Christmas. It was great, because no one was there so I was in and out in no time! Everyone, me included, thinks that their clothes are worth way more but hey, it’s better than nothing!

I wasn’t too disappointed that everything wasn’t taken from my bag, but there are two things that I wanted to throw out to the blogging world to see if anyone wanted to make an offer on them. They just seem too nice and cute for someone not to want to score a great deal!!

clothesclothes1clothes2

Both the Express blazer and American Eagle Outfitters peacoat are an Extra Small. The blazer was originally $108 with the tags still on it and the AEO peacoat was close to one hundred, as well. The Express blazer has a bit of discoloration on the collar from my hair dye, but can’t be seen when it’s worn. Both are super cute and in great condition, so if you want to make an offer, it’s all yours! 🙂

What are your tips on cleaning out a clothing hoard? How do you choose which items to keep or toss? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

Building Up Your Health From The Inside Out

Building Up Your Health From The Inside Out

We all know that being the right weight, eating well, and exercising is good for our bodies. But did you know that your body might still be suffering on the inside, even though you’ve managed to get the outside of your body looking at it’s best? Unfortunately, a part of life includes suffering with ailments. This all depends on your family history, what you’ve done in the past (like smoking), and also what you’re exposed to during current life that could affect your health. Here’s how you can build up your inner health to get yourself back at peak condition from the inside out:

Stomach:

Our stomach puts up with a lot of unfortunate issues, regardless of what you have put in it. We’ve all had stomach bugs where it has caused us to have major yuck sessions, so over time there is bound to be some damage done to our tummy that might even make us suffer as we get older. It’s also likely that you’ve enjoyed some alcohol in the past, alongside rich and spicy foods – all of which will damage your insides.

Making sure that you’re eating food that’s not going to do your stomach any harm a majority of the time will help you out in the long run. Many people experience ailments like heartburn or acid reflux. If this is you, consider changing your diet to something less acidic and also head to your pharmacy for some OTC medication to relieve your symptoms. You can also achieve heartburn relief through methods like chewing gum, eating bananas, and introducing probiotics into your healthcare routine.

Bones:

Your bones are literally what holds you together. However, many of us forget to look after them and end up with conditions like osteoporosis, which is weakened bones that are more likely to fracture and crumble. There are supplements available like AlgaeCal which relieves the symptoms of osteoporosis because of the AlgaeCal plant calcium, which is what our bones need to stay strong and healthy.

If you are worried about the wellness of your bones, be sure to visit your doctor who can arrange necessary tests and scans to check if you have any underlying conditions and to discuss the treatment of your discomfort.

Lungs:

Our lungs are vital in how we breathe, and they send oxygen to the heart so that it can pump blood around our bodies and keep us alive. Make sure that you’re not exposed to things that could be damaging to your lungs like asbestos or anything where you’re frequently exposed to small particles in the air. If you’re worried about asbestos in your home, you should call a professional in Asbestos Removal immediately to get their opinion. Having a specialist remove this, with the right equipment is important as doing this yourself could cause a significant amount of harm. Of course, you should also avoid smoking as this will also help you to protect your lungs and their health.

Give your inner self a fighting chance to get stronger quickly and try these bits of advice today. Remember to speak to your GP before self medicating, even if it’s a supplement. Stay healthy and happy!

Why You Can’t Get To Sleep At Night

Why You Can’t Get To Sleep At Night

Sleep is incredibly important for your mental and physical well-being. Some health professionals have even gone so far as to say that getting an adequate night’s sleep is as important as a well-balanced diet. For this reason, if you are struggling to get a decent night’s sleep, you need to come up with some ideas as to why, and try to combat them. Here are some of the most common:

You’ve Slept In: Lots of people stay up late one night and then sleep in the morning after to make up for it. It makes sense to do this, but unfortunately, it’s the reason why you can’t sleep now. Doing this throws off your body clock, and makes it harder to fall asleep again at night, as your body is now programmed to go to sleep at a later time. The most obvious remedy to this is to not have late nights, but I know that isn’t always possible. Instead, ensure that you don’t sleep in more than an hour later than you usually do, and have a short 20 to 30 minute nap in the afternoon if you start to feel tired. Just make sure that it’s no more than 20 to 30 minutes, otherwise, you will still be wide awake in the evening, and be back to your original issue.

You Need A New Mattress: If your mattress is lumpy and uncomfortable, then it’s understandable that you can’t fall asleep on it. You should aim to replace your mattress every 8 to 10 years, depending on how comfortable and supportive it is, but you can replace it sooner or later than that depending on its state. Even if you only got a new mattress a few years ago, you might still need to get a new one, depending on your own preference. If you have back pain, for example, you might want to invest in a specialty back pain mattress to help you sleep more soundly at night.

A mattress is an important purchase – you’re going to be sleeping on it every night! Definitely shop around and gather more information as needed when considering your options. When shopping for a mattress, think about what you need to get a good night’s sleep. Do you prefer something with cooling properties? An extra firm mattress? Or maybe something that works better for your body type, whether that’s exploring the best mattresses and the best beds for heavy people or seeking options tailored to those with back pain to find your ideal fit. Everyone has different preferences so a mattress a friend recommends might not work for you.

You’re Worried About Something: If you’ve had a particularly tricky day at work or have had an argument with a loved one, it’s often when you’re trying to sleep that these thoughts creep up on you. It may be hard to control our thoughts when we’re wide awake and alert, but it’s even harder when we’re slowly drifting in and out of consciousness. Although you can drift in and out of sleep while worried, it certainly doesn’t feel like you’re sleeping, so you wake up feeling as if you haven’t slept at all. If you’re feeling worried or anxious while you’re trying to sleep, you should keep the lights off, but go to another place in your house for a little while. This stops you from associating your bed with your anxieties and difficulty sleeping.

You’re Hungry: If you go to bed while you’re still hungry, you are never going to have a decent night’s sleep. Hunger pangs are sure to wake you up, that’s if the sound of your stomach growling doesn’t first. To avoid this, you should have a snack before you go to bed. You should opt for something high in protein, as this often makes us feel fuller than fat or carbohydrates. Something like a hard-boiled egg will do the trick and keep you from going to bed growling.

You Can See Light: Although some children, and even adults, struggle to sleep without some sort of light on, whether this is a small night light, a lamp, or the main light in your bedroom, it’s unlikely that they have a fulfilling sleep. This is because even the smallest amounts of light can pierce your retina, and send signals to your brain to keep you awake. Even the tiny light on your TV or DVD player can cause issues. The easiest way to combat this is to make sure that there is no light on in your room. Even the streetlights outside could be keeping you awake, so be sure to buy blackout curtains or blinds. You could even buy an eye mask to block out any light sources that you can’t control so that your brain knows that it really is night time.

There is a whole variety of reasons that you may not be able to sleep at night, so if none of these are right, then there is always something else that you can try. Sleep deprivation is a serious issue, so if you’re not getting any sleep for days in a row, be sure to visit your doctor and ask for some advice. sleepyy1

Disaster Dyes & Calamitous Cuts: Hair Horror Recovery

Standard
Disaster Dyes & Calamitous Cuts: Hair Horror Recovery

When you’ve had a hair disaster inflicted on you — or have perhaps even inflicted it on yourself — then it can feel like the world is ending. This is your life now. You’ll be wincing when you look in the mirror and wearing a large variety of hats/headbands/pony tails until the problem either grows out or returns to normal.

Or at least, that’s how it feels — but coping with a hair disaster doesn’t have to mean resigning yourself to months beneath a hat, scowling at your reflection. For every hair don’t, there’s something you can do to rectify it. Let’s explore the most common hair disasters and the fixes that can get your locks to normal ASAP:

DISASTER! Your Hair Dye Looks Uneven: If you choose to dye your hair, then a bad dye job is probably a fear of yours. Dyed hair can look terrible if it’s been dyed poorly, resulting in uneven patches or even wild colors that you never wanted on your head. If you experienced this as a result of a hairdresser’s work, it’s always worth making a complaint so that the next customer won’t suffer the same fate. If you did it with at-home dyes, then the good news is that it should be easier to remove.

With that said, removing hair dye isn’t easy. The process involves a number of harsh chemicals, and can leave your hair feeling dry and matted. Think long and hard about how much you dislike the color, and the possible downsides of removing it. If you choose not to go down the removal route, then most dark brown dyes will cover other pigment — maybe this mistake is a sign you should be a brunette?

HORROR: Your Hair Is Far Shorter Than You Intended: Hairdressers have a reputation for cutting hair shorter than the person has requested. You go in, request a trim, and leave with three inches of hair missing — it’s happened to us all. Perhaps you’ve even taken the scissors into your own hands and have decided to cut it yourself and gone a little too far. Whether the cutting was at the hands of a professional or your own work, the end result is the same: your hair is way, way shorter than you wanted.

Thankfully, tape in hair extensions exist, so that you can give yourself some length back with a minimum amount of hassle. Then, when your natural hair has grown out to a length that you find acceptable, you can remove them and promise never to go near the scissors again.

SHOCK! Your Hair Has Been Damaged: Dyeing, bleaching, or just overusing heat styling products all take their toll on your hair. If your ‘do is looking to be more of a don’t, then a moisturizing and conditioning regime is needed. Switch to less abrasive shampoos; you’ll find that there are plenty of natural shampoo brands which offer a far gentle way of cleaning your hair. Finish off with a thick application of quality conditioner. In time, with a natural shampoo and a good conditioner, your hair should once again be your crowning glory.

Whatever has happened to your tresses, just remember that there is a way back to hair redemption. And, it shouldn’t need saying, but never go to that same hairdresser or trust yourself with a pair of scissors again. It’s for the best – we promise.

Hi everyone and happy Thursday! This post is about to be TMI so if reading about female hygiene problems grosses you out, then feel free to tune in with a new addition of If The Shoe Fits tomorrow! I won’t be offended, I promise.

Okay, so the other night I was so excited because I had on my brand new Calvin Klein sleep pants. If you forget what they look like, here they are:

ck3

They’re cute, right? Really, really white, right? The type of pants that you wouldn’t want Aunt Flo visiting you in, right? Well, of course, that’s what happened. The sequence of events went like this:

  1. I changed into my pajama pants.
  2. I made it a point to announce to everyone in my home how happy I was about said pajama pants.
  3. Promptly did a little twirl to show off.
  4. Sat down to watch TV after realizing that no one cared.
  5. BOOM. Started my period. -___-

After realizing that a really unfortunate “accident” happened on my brand new white jammies, I didn’t know what to do. My mom wasn’t home, so I couldn’t tell her and hear her sage advice. And my dad gets upset whenever I ask him to shave the back of my neck compliments of my short hair, so I knew he wouldn’t be of any help. But, boy was I wrong.

The thing about my dad, is that he HATES 1) Talking about bodily functions and 2) When I use the washing machine. The few times that I’ve tried to do laundry, I royally messed it up and after those unfortunate incidents, my dad doesn’t want me anywhere near an expensive piece of technology. With this knowledge, can you imagine approaching my father with a period related laundry problem? Yeah, yikes.

So, instead of using the washing machine without asking, I casually changed my pants, applied stain remover to the problem area, and asked my dad, “Do you know how to get stains out of white clothes?”. Of course, my dad had to ask, “Well, what kind of stain is it?”. I literally didn’t know what to say. Honestly, I think I would have preferred to tell him that I peed my pants. ANYTHING but my period. I shuffled my feet for at least five seconds and finally said, “It’s blood, if you really have to know”.

And what did my dad do? If you’re thinking that his head exploded from the sheer shock that his adult daughter was menstruating, then you’ll be surprised to know that he calmly replied with, “Okay, did you put stain remover on it?”. He then proceeded to ask me what material the pants were made out of and then GOOGLED “how to remove blood stains from cotton clothes”. Like, what?

My dad then walked me through, step by step, how to use the washing machine and how to remove the stain according to Google. How to presoak the pants, that I should put more stain remover on after the soak, which setting I should wash it on next, how to dry it without the pants shrinking. Every step in the dance of removing a period stain from white pants, my dad covered in detail.

And guess what? It worked! Thanks to my dad helping me and keeping a level head, the stain out of my WHITE pajama bottoms was gone. I was shocked, but after it happened, I don’t know why I thought that he would have reacted any differently. I think my dad saw that I really just needed help and taken care of. I’ve had a rough few weeks and instead of telling me to figure my woman problems out myself, he taught me how to handle it.

My dad faced his fears of 1) Me being within a foot of the washing machine and 2) Me talking about my body problems because he saw his daughter in distress. I don’t know, this just really showed me the man that my dad is so clearly and it was special to me. I put him in an awkward situation and he handled it in the way that I so desperately needed. I love my parents so much, but I’m genuinely happy that my mom wasn’t home so that my dad and I could tackle this #periodproblem together.

I feel so #blessed about my Aunt Flo scenario, but I think I’ll be waiting until after my period is done to wear my new sleep pants again! Has anyone ever had an awkward moment with their parents that brought you closer together? How do you beat the period blues? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

Panty Palooza

Helloooo everyone and happy Tuesday! If you guys have been following my Panty Problems series, then you’ll know that we left off on a good note – a Silver Linings PantyBook, if you will. My online order to Aerie finally arrived over the weekend and I am so happy to say that all seven panties that I paid a whole $27.50 for were winners!

You guys have no idea how badly I needed this panty win after so many underoo trials and tribulations. I honestly don’t know what I would do if I opened my package from Aerie and hated every single panty that I ordered. At that point, I would probs just set fire to my entire panty drawer AND the rain, while I’m at it. Luckily for all parties involved, that wasn’t the case. Take a look at my Panty Palooza purchases and let’s discuss:

palooza1palooza2palooza

^^^ PANTY PARTY!

So, yes. Thanks to Aerie’s staggeringly better selection online as opposed to when I went to visit them in stores, I was able to replenish my panty drawer. I got me some boyshorts, cheekies, a thong for good measure, and a new pair of period panties (it should be obvious which one that is!). I’ve grown increasingly fond of the boyshort as of late so I’m really excited about all three of my new pairs of those! They are so cute and comfy and I cant wait to wear them as a set with a pretty bra or under an oversized T for when I go to bed. The panty possibilities are endless!

After evaluating my seven new panties and relishing the purchase, which proved to be satisfactory, I began the task of organizing my panty drawer. I’ll be honest with you guys, I am a complete and total clothing hoarder. If I have that whisper in the back of my mind that says “you might be able to wear that four years from now” you best believe that I’m going to keep whatever that article of clothing is. Even panties.

My panty drawer is something that I rarely go through because I never really think of it. Especially considering that I have my favorite pairs of panties and everything else just becomes kind of forgotten in my panty plethora. This had to change. I emptied out my panty drawer, organized my underoos by color, and parted with some dearly beloved panty friends.

It was sad to see some of my fallen panty warriors end up in the trash, but I was happy to be reminded of all of the panties that I had forgotten about by picking favorites. A solid clean through of my panty drawer left me feeling like I had way more than seven new pairs to pick from, because of all of the ones that I wasn’t even aware that I had – so that was a major plus!

Although this journey began with some major Panty Problems, all’s well that ends well, because it was a straight up Panty Palooza this weekend! Three cheers for sweet little underthings and also three cheers for me for finally getting the panty revamp that I so desperately needed.

So there you have it, the Panty Problems series conclusion: Panty Palooza. I am so BLESSED that my panty odyssey had a happy ending and now, you guys can rest assured that you won’t read the word PANTY on my blog for a very long time! Where do you love to buy lingerie from? What store has the best selection? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

Panty P.S.: Have any of my readers shopped Adore Me? I’m intrigued and I want to know if it’s worth the hype before making a purchase! Thanks! ❤

Silver Linings PantyBook

Silver Linings PantyBook

Helloooo everyone and happy Hump Day! So as you guys know, I have had some major Panty Problems this past weekend. You can read all about my tale of woe in the link but just know that it was a really hard time for me, okay?!?! BUT, with every hurricane comes a rainbow and the Silver Linings PantyBook happened on Monday night when I decided to give Aerie’s online store a go.

I’ll be honest, I wasn’t expecting much out of the online site considering I had such abysmal luck in store but I took a deep breath and checked out the panty section, anyways. My thought process behind this one final attempt at panty redemption was the fact that I had a gift card so generously given to me by my mother and if you haven’t figured it out yet, I really need new panties. As I scrolled through the online store of panties galore I….

Wasn’t impressed. BUT that didn’t mean that I was at a complete loss! Aerie, the sneaky devils, decided to hoard all of their cute stuff as online exclusives and sent the rest of the not so stellar shipment to the stores (or so it seems!). So amidst the losing pairs of panties that I had already seen in the store, there were little gems peppered into the page in their online exclusives. Aerie’s usual deal is seven pairs of panties for $27.50, which I think is such a steal so I hunted down seven WINNING pairs to add to my shopping cart.

I ended up with some thongs, cheekies, boyshorts, and a good ol’ pair of period panties for when the time comes. With shipping and tax, I ended up paying a little less than the amount that I paid at Victoria’s Secret for only THREE panties, which I’ve since returned. Aerie has slightly redeemed themselves in my mind after the Silver Linings PantyBook occurred in my online order. BUT, that doesn’t mean that I’m not still disappointed in their lack of cute underthings!!

Will I be satisfied with my order once it arrives? Will I ever stop using the word PANTY? Find out next time when the Panty Problems series concludes with Panty Palooza! Where is your favorite place to shop lingerie? Which store has the cutest panties on the block? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

Panty Problems

Panty Problems

Helloooo everyone and happy Monday! I hope that all of you had a wonderful weekend and a lovely Mother’s Day if you celebrated! I have to tell you guys, I am having some MAJOR Panty Problems up in here, up in here. Your girl has needed some new panties for a while now and I decided that this was the weekend that I would make the panty purchase. My mom and I were going to go up to Belden Village, which is a mall about a  half an hour away from us in Canton so that I could shop at Aerie and I was really excited!

Unfortunately, no other malls near me have an Aerie, which is a damn shame considering it’s my normal panty stomping grounds. But that always has been okay with me because Belden Village is my favorite mall to shop at. Before my faithful sidekick – MY MOM and I left, she also treated me to an Aerie gift card as an early birthday present so that I could get my panty on. It was basically the sweetest thing ever and I was so ready to hit the road so that I could revamp my panty drawer ASAP.

SO, we got to the mall and we went to Aerie and it was essentially the most disappointing moment in my life because every single panty there was nowhere close to moving me on a spiritual level . Like, seriously? I have this here gift card and have made the trek to the mall and literally Not. One. Single. Panty. spoke to me. I couldn’t believe it.

I have never not had good luck at Aerie when it comes to panties, but here I was being surrounded by these…these…panty imposters with a gift card burning a hole in my pocket and NOTHING to spend it on. I was in shock. I was disappointed. And I was simply beside myself in mourning for the current uselessness of my gift card and the fact that my panty drawer would be none the better that night.

We walked out of Aerie and I felt dejected and defeated but I figured that we might as well look at Victoria’s Secret, since we were at the mall. I’m not a huge Vicky S fan when it comes to panties. Frankly, I think that they’re an absolute rip off – but at this point, I felt like I needed something and Victoria’s Secret beckoned me into their pink and black emblazoned store with the promise of severely overly priced panties. And like a sheep walking into the slaughter, I entered the store.

Oh, Victoria’s Secret. A store full of sexy little underthings for prices that you could probably buy a kidney with off of the black market. Don’t get me wrong – all of my bras are from Vicky S. I’m just a ballin on a budget kind of gal. I’m more than willing to shell out for a nice bra but panties are just a different story, which is why I’ve always shied away from purchasing them from Victoria’s Secret. But, there I was, Angel Card in hand and a whole store of panties to pick from…

And I hated all of them. Every single panty there that was on some type of a promotion did nothing for me. Similar to Aerie, they were all just blah. But guys…guys…I really felt like I needed to buy some freaking panties – so what did I do? I made my way to the most expensive table of panties which were three for thirty-five or something along those lines and began to hunt for the perfect pairs because it was the only table in the store that I even remotely liked.

After about five minutes, the deed was done and I made my way to the register. The total came close to forty dollars and I just had to stare at the price for a minute, like a cow looking on to an oncoming train. And, I swiped my card and exited the store…

Instantly, I felt like I had made a big fat mistake but didn’t say anything until we got into the car and were on the highway. I then made the announcement that “I have no idea why I just bought those”. It was obviously a moment of weakness because I genuinely see no justification in spending forty dollars for three pairs of panties and I ended up returning them at a nearby mall the next day.

Long story short, my Panty Problems have been a source of much grief and woe this past weekend and here I stand, STILL PANTY-LESS. G DMXCN SMZDNCDCLKSANCKMASJM AHHHHHHHHHHH. Okay. Wow, I really needed that. Anyways, I guess the moral of the story is to not buy something because you feel obligated to (ESPECIALLY expensive panties), patience is a virtue, yada yada yada. And I guess I’m just going to have to wait until Aerie’s panties don’t completely suck until I spend my gift card. *Patience is a virtue, patience is a virtue, patience is a virtue.*  Smh. The End.

So there you have it, my Panty Problems for the weekend, which is obvs enough to last a lifetime! Where do you get the cutest panties from? How about the best bras? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

4 Skin Problems & What To Do About Them

4 Skin Problems & What To Do About Them

It can often be quite surprising how many of us take our skin for granted. If you have never dealt with a skin ailment during your life, you may not have any idea of the kind of issues it can bring up for a sufferer. We all have our health issues, but usually, we can keep them private. Skin conditions, however, are much more difficult to hide – simply because quite a lot of our skin is out for show much of the time. Our skin is delicate, and it varies in many different parts of the body. For example, the skin on your hands has adapted to wrinkle when immersed in water, to give you more grip in poor weather conditions. You will also find that the skin on your body is much less oily than the skin on your face because the body has far less sebaceous glands. That is partially why we have different products for use on our face than we have for use on our bodies – it’s all about caring for and preserving your skin.

Having a condition, however, can make this whole process much more complicated. Some skin issues can be little more than an annoyance, whereas others can be serious and even life-altering. Here are a few that you may have heard of and some others that you may not be so familiar with, and what to do if you think you may be living with any of them:

Excessively Dry Skin: If you have very dry skin, you may just regard it as ‘one of those things’, much in the same way that you may have curly hair or have brittle fingernails. But if you are experiencing any discomfort from your dry skin, you could have a problem on your hands (quite literally!). Dry skin is one of the leading causes of itchy palms, a condition that can be incredibly frustrating for sufferers and something that can possibly interfere with your sleep.

Be mindful of how you react to your itchy, dry skin. If you are absentmindedly scratching it, you might be breaking the skin without realizing it. This can be incredibly painful, and can put you at risk of developing infections. The best way to avoid the incessant itching caused by dry skin is to keep your skin full of moisture, so invest in a good hand cream and a body butter to keep your skin supple and itch-free.

Psoriasis: Psoriasis is a condition that relates to dry skin but in a much more serious way. Its main symptoms are red, flaky patches of skin across the body that are often covered with silver scales. These patches can be itchy or sore, and some people have more severe symptoms than others. Unfortunately, there is no cure for this condition, but there are things that you can do to ease the effects of it. If you think you may have psoriasis, visit your doctor, as they may be able to prescribe you medication or cream to ease some of the symptoms.

Vitiligo: Vitiligo is not a condition that tends to cause the sufferer physical pain, but it can have a big impact on a person’s self-esteem. This particular condition causes white patches to appear on the skin, which vary in size and shape. This can give the skin a ‘mottled’ effect, and it shows up more clearly on people who are naturally dark-skinned. It is a long-term condition, although it can start to develop at any time in life. As of yet, there is no cure, but you can minimize the appearance of the condition with makeup, steroid cream, or even phototherapy. (Notice that Converse and Gap are both using models with Vitiligo in their campaigns!)

care3

A good makeup brush is a must.

Scabies: Scabies is often considered to be an illness of the past, normally associated with pirates living on unhygienic old ships! In reality, however, scabies is caused purely by tiny mites called Sarcoptes scabiei, which burrow into the skin, causing the itchy feeling. Scabies can develop and spread easily in environments where people are living in very close quarters with each other, which is partially why it is more common during the winter than the summer in most Western countries. It is not serious but can be uncomfortable, and can be worsened if you repeatedly scratch at the affected areas. So if you think you might have scabies, visit your doctor. He or she will most likely prescribe you a cream of sorts that contains insecticides, which will kill the scabies mites. Permethrin cream and malathion lotion are the two most commonly prescribed types.

The Forgotten Home Repair That Became Part of Your Life

The Forgotten Home Repair That Became Part of Your Life

You’ve probably realized that in life, there are things that we always get used to and it becomes second-nature to us or we take it for granted. For instance, if you’re sitting at a computer right now or using your smartphone to read this article, then there are probably some muscle-memory maneuvers that you’ve practiced over and over again which became so natural that you don’t even think about it.

This is just the result of our brain getting used to something. If we repeat a task long enough, it becomes something that we do without thinking. This is, sadly, something that can have both a positive and negative effect. The negative typically comes in the form of things that we do at home and most of the time it has to do with home repairs.

Think about your home and try to pinpoint some home repairs that you never got around to. That crack in the wall near your front entrance? Yes, the one you’ve hidden behind a painting for how long. Or what about the lower water pressure on one of the taps in your bathroom? You didn’t think it was much of an issue and you deal with it every morning, but is it really normal for a tap to dribble water like that instead of pouring it out? The answer is no, btw! Here are some things that you should look into getting fixed before it causes any more problems in your home:

Fixing things before they get too bad:

Faults around the home are often the result of some underlying issues. If left for too long, it could negatively effect our lives and even cause more damage than you’d expect. For instance, a leaky pipe might not be much of an issue now and you’ll probably deal with it by putting a dish underneath the pipe to collect the water, or you might take it a step further and plug the pipe with something. However, that doesn’t change the fact that you have a crack in the pipe that can grow larger and eventually cause a lot of damage to your entire plumbing system. A quick Google search of “plumbers near me” will reveal dozens of services that are more than willing to perform inspections and fix your issues, no matter how minor they seem. Just remember to take every home repair seriously so that they don’t spiral out of control.

Fixing things before you need them:

Remember that faulty air conditioner in your home that broke towards the end of last summer? Perhaps you haven’t used your air conditioning unit for a while because we’re only in spring, but why not fix it before summer comes? A broken air conditioner that spits out less air or isn’t as cool as it should be is a faulty one. Perhaps you didn’t mind because it was the tail end of summer and the days were getting shorter, but that doesn’t mean that you should leave it broken and force it to become part of your life. Change it! Simply enter a search for “heating and cooling minnesota” (or your local area) and book an appointment with a trusted team of experts. Never settle for broken or faulty appliances and always repair them to get the most value out of them and to prevent them from developing more faults!
