5 Below Clothing Haul

Hi!! October is my Halloween happy time but spooky season has come to stores early and it absolutely tickles me. It is so fun to see Halloween decor galore in store (I like to rhyme!) in August! While I love seeing what’s good at TJMaxx, I am always especially excited for the Halloween drop at 5 Below. Gasp! Don’t tell TJs lol but it is really nice to get spooky little somethings without feeling like I’m breaking the bank and 5 Below scratches that itch. I have had many a Halloween haul there and recently had a frighteningly good score with new PJs and a fabulous T shirt for Johnny! Check it out:

I am an avid fan of 5 Below pajamas and have an ever growing collection of their sweet and cheap lounge wear. Their PJs come in the most adorable patterns, are uber soft and comfortable, and buying a set is fourteen dollars in total. It’s such a steal! As soon as I saw their two newest Halloween PJ additions with the bears in costume and tiny ghosts, they were as good as mine and I was SO eager to bust them out. I donned my ghosts and pumpkins this weekend and they were perfect to spend some lazy days in post surgery. These PJs actually remind me a lot of the Aerie line from American Eagle as I used to covet their pricey comfortable apparel and the fourteen buck price sure beats fifty dollars for a pair of pajamas! I am in trouble if 5 Below drops more Halloween patterns in this set because I’m going to want them all!! 😀

And, of course, I couldn’t leave 5B without a little treat for Johnny too! Every spooky season 5 Below drops the most fabulous horror graphic Ts. They are seriously Hot Topic level in both style and quality and Johnny loves the Michael Myers one I got him last year. I legit gasped when I saw a Texas Chainsaw Massacre T last week because holy WOW is this shirt cool. The Texas Chainsaw Massacre is my all time favorite horror movie and, although Halloween takes the cake for Johnny, it is high up on the list for him too. This movie poster print is everything and Johnny put it on as soon as I gave it to him. It made me so happy! There are a few more that I have my eye on for the next time I end up in 5 Below’s loving embrace because there is nothing better than getting a shirt that would have costed twenty-five smackers at the mall for five. Great success!

Ghosts, teddy bears, and Leatherface – Oh my! This 5 Below Clothing Haul gave sweet with a side of scary. Stay tuned for Pajama Party OOTDs coming soon!

What is your favorite classic horror movie? Do you have your Halloween costume planned already? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

Fetching In Flowers OOTD Bloopers

Hello everyone and welcome to the Blooper Reel from my Fetching In Flowers OOTD! This lil look was worn to celebrate my lil BFF on her engagement and the most fabulous time was had by all. And the good times are just going to keep rolling because it’s wedding planning time, baby! I am elated to help my best girl in any way she needs for her big day and I honestly can’t wait for her big day to get here because Johnny and I simply come alive at a wedding. The last one we will have attended prior to bestie’s was in May of this year so it will be a long time coming. Bring it on!! And bring on these yikes shots too for good measure:

I haven’t had a surgical procedure since I was twenty and there were some things that really stuck out twelve years later when I got my LEEP and tubal. For example, I was able to pop a Zanny basically as soon as I got into the room before my operation and that was a really nice touch lol. I wouldn’t say I was over the top nervous but I definitely had anxiety and I wasn’t not going to take a Xanax that a literal nurse offered to me! This was the best case “someone offers you drugs” scenario! I even got an Orange & Ginger scent clip attached to my gown to soothe any nausea and nerves that the Xanax didn’t tackle. But I’m pretty sure the pill did the trick all on its own. 😀

Speaking of gowns… Have y’all had a surgery lately because WHAT EVEN?! The paper gown that I had on had a flap that could be pulled up which revealed a spot where you could insert a tube. Obviously, I had to see what that was all about and these gowns attach to a heating/cooling device! My mind was blown! My nurse started it up for me and before I knew it, my gown was being inflated with warm air and I looked like the Marshmallow Man lol. The heat felt nice but it was mainly just funny to watch my gown blow up like that. Were any of these upgrades really necessary to my surgical experience? Not really but I sure enjoyed it!

Prior to my surgery (And after!), I got treated to all kinds of good stuff. I would say the Xanax took the cake but that inflatable gown act was truly something special!

What helps ease your anxiety? Which scent do you consider calming? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

Fetching In Flowers OOTD

Hi! This past Friday we had the greatest joy of celebrating my best friend’s engagement and it was the most wonderful time! A gathering of bestie and her fiance’s family and friends all met at HiHo Brewing Company for some drinks and good old fashioned Tom foolery and we were so honored to share in the happiness of the beautiful couple. Of course, a partay called for some fancy dress and I LOVE styling special occasion OOTDs. It was, unfortunately, hot and muggy AF on Friday but this little fit kept me somewhat cool. Let’s just say I was thrilled to take it off as soon as I got home lol check it out:

Button Down Dress: Zara

Platform Heels: Marc Fisher, TJMaxx

Earrings: Lucky Brand

To begin styling this look, I knew I wanted to wear a dress but the question was which one. A majority of the dresses in my collection felt way too casual while others were too fancy for a get together at a brewery. I needed something hey diddle diddle, right down the middle for the event and was in business when my eyes landed on this little number by Zara. This button down dress is oh so chic with its silky material, slightly oversized fit, inky black flowers, and corset tie sides. It feels dressy without feeling like the queen of England and just right for a summer evening celebration. It was a huge hit at the party and blessedly no one could tell I was sweating buckets underneath lol.

It was WAY too hot for any extra additions to this outfit, which now brings us to shoes and accessories. I wanted the striking pattern of the dress to do all of the talking so kept things simple with my go to pair of Marc Fisher platforms. The ballet slipper pink added such a sweet pastel pop to the bold dress which I adored because the easy choice would have been a pair of black heels! For one more pop of color, I added my favorite pair of dangly turquoise cross earrings and was ready to see my bestie in the best style! ❤

Although this outfit didn’t have many bells and whistles, it felt so effortlessly cool and sometimes simple is best. Stay tuned for the Blooper Reel coming soon!

Are you attending any upcoming weddings? What is your special occasion style? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

TJMaxx Skin Care Haul

Hi! This past Tuesday I went to TJMaxx on my break as I needed a skin care restock and wanted to browse for upcoming birthday gifts for a couple of my bestie girls. I had great success on both counts and actually ran into one of my bestie girls! While I was perusing the skin care, I sensed a presence beside me who seemed to follow me in step. I felt like I was blocking whomever from their shopping and felt SO awkward and it kept happening. Finally, I turned to the person to apologize and it ended up being my BFF of eighteen years, Lea!! Omg did we have a laugh and after we parted ways I texted her with “you scare me :(” lol because she really did! It made my TJs trip even more magical and I walked away with the following skin care goodies:

For my skin care I was on the market for a new moisturizer, serums, an eye cream, and a scrub. And, of course, I never say no to my go to micellar water if it is available! Selecting a moisturizer was an incredibly easy choice because I actually purchased the same Goodness moisturizer a few months ago, am using it now, and am absolutely LOVING it. The Goodness Every Morning Moisturizer is really rich despite its thinner texture and feels like clouds when I apply it. It is ultra hydrating and leaves my skin feeling soft as can be and looking refreshed. The last moisturizer I used was a total dud and the Goodness brand was a total breath of fresh air the first time I used it. I will happily continue buying it as long as it’s available!

As far as my preferred serums go, TJMaxx always seems to have Glow Elixir and Precision Beauty in stock and I am a fan of them both. Like the Goodness moisturizer, it was a no brainer decision to pick up a few in my tried and true Collagen + Vitamin C formula for a dose of radiance in my beauty routine. A scrub was also needed as I had just finished up one of my favorites by ValJean Labs. In fact, I used it up this very morning. I really enjoy their products and was hoping to find the same scrub to use again. The shelves were bare in that regard but I did find a ValJean Labs eye serum that I am looking forward to trying! I opted for a Vitamin C & Turmeric scrub by Skin 2.0 which is a brand I have never used before. I’ll get my introduction tomorrow so stay tuned for a review coming soon. 😀

Prezzies, skin care, and a bestie sighting – oh my! This TJMaxx trip had it all and I can’t wait to use the new to me products and gift my beloveds with what I found for them! ❤

Do you like to shop alone or with someone? What are your go to skin care brands? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

What A Duty-Free Harbor Adds To The Value Of A Ring

Standard
What A Duty-Free Harbor Adds To The Value Of A Ring

Jewelry shopping looks remarkably similar from one glass counter to the next: Velvet trays, loupes, and patient staff walking a customer through clarity grades and carat weights. But the industry behind that counter changes dramatically depending on where in the world it sits. Tax structures, sourcing relationships, certification customs, and even the pace of a sales conversation shift from region to region, and those differences quietly shape what a shopper actually gets for their money. Most buyers never think to ask why a ring costs less in one place than another or why an appraisal in one city looks different from one issued somewhere else. Understanding those regional mechanics reveals benefits that rarely make it into the conversation at the counter:

Duty and tax policy is one of the most consequential, least visible forces in retail jewelry. A diamond or gemstone that crosses an international border typically picks up import duties, value-added tax, or sales tax layered on top of the wholesale cost. In jurisdictions designated as duty-free, those layers disappear or shrink substantially, which is why certain ports and island territories have built entire retail districts around fine jewelry. The savings are not a gimmick or a markdown; they reflect a genuine difference in the cost structure a retailer operates under. A ring that would carry a noticeably higher final price in a heavily taxed market can be priced more competitively in a duty-free one, with the same materials and the same craftsmanship. Buyers who understand this distinction shop with more confidence, because they know the discount is structural rather than promotional.

Certain regions develop deep, generational expertise in particular gemstones simply because of trade routes, historical ties, or proximity to cutting and polishing centers. A retailer in a region with strong ties to Colombian emerald trade routes tends to carry more emeralds and employ staff who can speak knowledgeably about clarity characteristics unique to that stone. A retailer near historic diamond cutting centers may have stronger access to well-cut, well-calibrated diamonds at competitive prices. This regional specialization means a buyer often gets better selection and more informed guidance on the stones a given area is known for, compared to a general jewelry counter with no particular concentration.

Certification and appraisal practices are not identical everywhere and that variation matters more than most shoppers realize. Some regions have well-established networks of independent gemological labs that issue widely recognized grading reports, while others rely more heavily on in-house appraisals. Neither approach is inherently better, but understanding which is in play helps a buyer interpret the paperwork they receive. In the United States, the Federal Trade Commission oversees how jewelers describe metal content, gemstone treatments, and pricing claims, which gives shoppers a consistent baseline of disclosure regardless of which state or territory they are in. That regulatory consistency is itself a regional advantage worth recognizing, since it means a buyer working with a retailer under that oversight can expect certain disclosures as a matter of course rather than as a courtesy.

Some of the most meaningful regional benefits show up in ordinary, unglamorous ways. A traveler who spends an afternoon browsing st thomas jewelry stores, for instance, is shopping in a market shaped by decades of cruise tourism, duty-free status, and a concentration of retailers competing for a well-traveled, comparison-minded clientele. That competitive density tends to push service quality up: longer appointment times, more willingness to source a specific cut or setting on request, and staff accustomed to explaining grading terminology to buyers who may be shopping for fine jewelry only once every few years. None of this appears on a sign or a receipt, but it changes the actual experience of buying a piece. A buyer in a less concentrated market might find fewer options for immediate comparison, while one in a dense, tourism-driven district benefits from retailers who have every incentive to make the buying process transparent and unhurried.

Taken together, these regional distinctions add up to something buyers rarely articulate but often sense: the feeling that one jewelry shopping experience was smoother, more informative, or better priced than another, without quite knowing why. The reasons are structural. Tax policy determines baseline pricing. Trade history determines which stones a region handles with the most expertise. Regulatory environment determines what disclosures a buyer can expect as standard practice. Tourism density determines how competitive and service-oriented a local market becomes. None of these factors require a buyer to become an expert in international trade or gemology. They simply reward a little curiosity about where a piece is being purchased and why that place developed the retail character it has. A buyer who asks a jeweler about sourcing, certification, or how long the business has operated in that location often gets a richer answer than they expected, and a better sense of what makes that particular market distinctive.

Fine jewelry will always be judged first by the piece itself: the cut, the setting, the way a stone catches light. But the market surrounding that piece, shaped by geography, taxation, trade history, and regulation, plays a larger role in the buying experience than most people ever stop to consider!

Comfy Cozy OOTD

Comfy Cozy OOTD

Hi! Going to the movies is one of my favorite things in the world and I love checking out what’s hot in horror or anything else that strikes my interest on the big screen. I frequent the local Cinemark with Johnny, my friends, and family at least twice a month and there is just nothing better than loading up on snacks and getting lost in the cinematic universe for a few hours. As you all know, I love to dress up for any and every occasion but that was so not the case the last two times I hit up the movie theater. The live recording of Hadestown and The Odyssey were both long AF and, for once, I could not be bothered to dress for cuteness lol. In those situations, it was all about comfort to settle into the almost three hour flicks! Check it out:

Rock On Hoodie: Zoe + Liv, Target

The sweats are just an old pair I work out in lol – like I said, I could not be bothered for cuteness!

Sneakers: Adidas, TJMaxx

Wow! That’s a totally different look than what you usually see me in but the thing is, this is how I look 95% of the time! During the work week, I am sporting no makeup, a hoodie or t-shirt, and jeans or shorts. The OOTDs I post on here are reserved for weekend dates with Johnny and outings with friends. Johnny and I both get up at the buttcrack of dawn for work and I just don’t have the time or desire to get myself done up to meet with clients or do content shoots after my morning work from home rush. And you know what? That’s okay!

Back when I was a teen and early twenty something, I would have been shocked to read myself say I go to work comfy and bare faced a decade later. In the olden days, I wouldn’t have left the house without makeup and a cute outfit! As I have gotten older, however, I simply don’t care as much lol. My clients all know what I look like, my content shoots all revolve around working outside, and I would rather eat a good breakfast and watch an anime in the morning over doing my makeup. That is honestly my favorite part of the morning and I wouldn’t have it any other way. 😀

No matter what I leave the house in whether it’s a full fit or lounge wear, I’m rocking it because I’m me. And the same goes for you too! This Comfy Cozy OOTD is a reminder that what you see online is usually far from what you see in real life. That’s why I’m posting this outfit and share bloopers from my OOTD shoots because that’s Lil Red too! I might look put together in the clothes I style, but I am still a goofy, imperfect, often fresh faced gal and don’t care who knows it. Especially because I was probably the comfiest person in the theater when I saw The Odyssey!! Lol GREAT SUCCESS.

This is Lil Red IRL but trust and believe I will be putting a few killer OOTDs together this weekend for the plans in my calendar. Stay tuned for the latest and greatest! ❤

How do you dress on a normal day? How are you required to dress for work? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

Spill The Tea OOTD Bloopers

Hello everyone and welcome to the Blooper Reel from my Spill The Tea OOTD! This little look was worn to attend a Mad Hatter’s Tea Party at the library with my niece squad and we had the best time. The girls loved making all of the tea party food like finger sandwiches, fruit salad, fruit punch, and frosted cookies and created a spread fit for a celebration in Wonderland! As the extra aunt, I had to show out in fancy dress to attend the party and it was received very well. These pictures, however? Were not received very well by me as I went through the million shots that Johnny took! Best blog husband ever! Lol, check it out:

As a very heavily tattooed woman, I am very used to people staring and asking questions. And, of course, the absolute certainty to get a comment at the gas station as soon as hot weather hits and I break out shorts and a tank. It happens every year like clock work! This past week when I went to pick up my car from the shop, I ended up having the most delightful conversation with the woman who was in line behind me. She asked if she could take a closer look at my ink which I always appreciate and then we began gabbing about anime when she saw my Demon Slayer tats. As she perused my leg tattoos, I couldn’t help thinking of another instance of a tattoo looky loo that went in a completely different direction that lives rent free in my memory…

Several years back, my bestie and I visited a winery for one of our birthdays and were enjoying drinks on the deck overlooking the vineyard. Seemingly out of nowhere, a lady who had several glasses of the good stuff crept behind me, dropped down to leg level, and started scanning all of my work. My BFF and I had no idea she was there because we were facing the vineyard and this woman was operating on stealth level. You could imagine my surprise when I sensed her presence, turned around, and caught her gawking lol. It was a horror movie level scare!! The moral of this story? Always ask before getting up close and personal with a tattooed person. Chances are high they won’t mind at all and you won’t end up scaring them half to death. Big ups to my repair shop companion for knowing the etiquette! 😀

Tea parties, tattoo peek a boo, and a broken down car – oh my! What will happen next in Lil Red’s crazy world? Keep it posted here to find out!

Have you gotten a new body mod recently? What did you get? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

Spill The Tea OOTD

Spill The Tea OOTD

Hello everyone and welcome to a brand new OOTD here on lifewithlilred! This past weekend I attended an adorable Mad Hatter’s tea party with my nieces at the library. It was such a lovely program where the kiddos got to make finger sandwiches, fruit salad, fruit punch, and decorate cookies with the assistance of their grown up helpers. We had a blast! As the extra aunt, I just had to get dressed up for the occasion as my squad has come to expect. They love my themed outfits as much as I love creating them! Here is what I wore to Spill The Tea at the party:

Cami Top: mittoshop, French Rooster

Pleather Skirt: BB Dakota, TJMaxx

Platform Heels: Marc Fisher, TJMaxx

Headband: Claire’s

When I think of a tea party, my mind instantly goes to floral patterns and my OOTD created itself from there. This look came to me in a vision and it turned out exactly how I wanted it to. I LERVE when that happens! 😀 I started building this fit from the middle because my pleather BB Dakota skirt was a must. This skirt is girly sweet Lil Red’s way as the black base and pleather added a healthy dose of edge. It saddens me deeply that some of the pleather has begun to peel but that is made up for with this skirt’s twirl-ability! As you can see on my TikTok, this skirt moves like a dream and I had to refrain myself from twirling with every step. So fun!

I chose to turn my skirt into a pseudo dress by pairing it with a black cami from French Rooster. This gauzy number was the basic essential I needed to blend seamlessly with the skirt and that touch of lace really turns it into something special. When both pieces were on, I felt like the belle of the tea party and I wasn’t even there yet! Next up was shoes and accessories before I headed out to Wonderland…

I went for one of my favorite pairs of ballet slipper pink platforms by Marc Fisher and although it wasn’t a perfect match to the pink in the skirt, it was close enough. These platforms gave me a a boost in height and elevated this look into a special occasion OOTD because it most certainly was. Any time with my girl squad is! For accessories I added a cuff from Aerie as well as a bejeweled snake cuff by Betsey Johnson that you can’t really see in the pictures lol. That’s no matter because the piece de resistance was the cute as can be flower headband from Claire’s to tie the garden party theme into a pretty bow. My nieces were obsessed with it and it really blew their minds when it lit up from the fairy lights scattered throughout the flowers. With that, it was time to Spill The Tea (metaphorically speaking) at the tea party!

This OOTD was a total hit with my girl squad so it was a GREAT SUCCESS in my book. Stick around for the Blooper Reel coming soon!

Did you like to have tea parties growing up? What food would you include in a tea party spread? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

Safari Chic OOTD Bloopers

Safari Chic OOTD Bloopers

Hello everyone and welcome to the Blooper Reel from my Safari Chic OOTD! This little look was worn to go see The Lion King at Playhouse Square and it was the most magical time. Mine and Johnny’s theater adventure for the month of July is not over yet as we are chomping at the bit to see the original cast recording of Hadestown at the Cinemark next weekend. It is our absolute favorite and, although we both think the cast we saw at Playhouse was even better than the original cast, we are really looking forward to our date night! I’m not sure what I’m going to wear yet, but I am sure that there will be beaucoup bloopers during our OOTD shoot like these:

When you’re at a theater, the golden rule is sit back, be quiet, and enjoy the show. And, for the most part, that is exactly what happened when my entire family (including four littles) went to The Lion King. Then, shortly after intermission, one of our nieces got a little bit fidgety. She’s not even four yet so it’s to be expected and she really did do great. In fact, she did perfect because the two things she said during the final half of the show were hilarious and Johnny and I had to literally squeeze each other’s hands to not burst out laughing…

About five minutes after intermission, our niece proclaimed to god and everyone that she wants a popsicle and, honestly, what a vibe. Who doesn’t enjoy a cold summer treat?! Johnny and I were busting a gut because out of everything in the world to say in a quiet theater, that’s what she landed upon. After being assured that popsicles could be had after the show, all was quiet until the second to last number of The Lion King. The audience clapped and cheered and when the ruckus died down, our niece asked god and everyone if the show was almost over yet. LOL she was SO close to the end but couldn’t quite make it, bless her heart! There were plenty of moments of laughter throughout The Lion King but these ones definitely took the cake!

We laughed, we almost cried from laughter, and we sure had FUN at The Lion King. It was so special to go with my whole family and I will never forget it!

Have your children said anything hilarious recently? Do they do well seeing plays or movies? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

Safari Chic OOTD

Standard
Safari Chic OOTD

Hello everyone and welcome to a brand new OOTD here on lifewithlilred! This past Sunday, my entire family enjoyed a wonderful time at Playhouse Square seeing The Lion King. It was nothing short of a miraculous performance and we are all still raving about it! When we took our girl squad to see Toy Story 5, I decided to create an OOTD themed around my favorite character, Jessie. Everyone got such a kick out of it that I went the themed route again for The Lion King! Although I don’t have any character specific clothing or accessories, I could do a fashion interpretation and came up with this Safari Chic look. Check it out:

Jumpsuit: Japna, TJMaxx

Hat: Peter Grimm, TJMaxx

Heels that you can’t see lol: Made, TJMaxx

Snake Wrap Cuff: Earthbound, My sister got this for me in New Orleans!

The giraffe cuff was purchased forever ago from Target and the feather earrings were a hand me down from my sister!

When I think of the animals in The Lion King, my mind goes to a safari adventure and I had the perfect something in mind to match the vibes: My Japna jumpsuit! This little number is giving safari with style with the classic light khaki color, stitching, and deep front pockets. My only gripe with this jumpsuit? It is SO long!! I always wear it with the tallest heels I own and they forever remain invisible under all of that fabric. Regardless of the length, I do love this jumpsuit and the ease of wearing one. Literally all I had to do was accessorize and then it was off to the theater!

To up the ante on this OOTD, the accessories was where I was going to have some fun. As I had the safari theme in mind, I just needed a hat to “wear” and selected a gorgeous wide brimmed one by Peter Grimm. It would be uncouth to wear a hat on your head in the theater but mine could be worn on my back thanks to this hat’s toggle strap! This approach further enhanced the safari aesthetic with a fashion twist. Although you can’t see the shoes, I went for a strappy pair of heels that actually featured a bit of zebra print on the bottom straps. Once again, blame it on the fabric but I knew that this pattern was there and it was another feather in my safari cap. 😀

Like the animal print on my invisible heels, I chose all animal inspo everything for jewelry. I put on a pretty pair of dangly feathered earrings compliments of my sister and lived for that added drama right by my face. I also adorned my arms with some cuff bracelets, one of which being a snake and the other being a giraffe. These playful additions tied my Fashion Safari look altogether and I am so pleased with how it turned out. This OOTD was made completely with items I have had for years and I’m genuinely shook that I had a full blown safari fit just waiting for the right occasion to be worn!

The Lion King? Spectacular. The fashion? Inspired! Stay tuned for the Blooper Reel!

What do you wear on a dress up occasion? Do you have a special event coming up? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah
