Monday Update: Take A Walk Edition

Hi everyone and happy Monday! I hope that all of you had a fantastic and relaxing weekend. So, technically, this Monday Update should be called Take A Walk/Run Edition (a rawk?) but Take A Walk sounds a bit more snazzy so we’ll just go with it. ANYWAYS, this past week, my mom decided that she would like to give walking at the nearby middle school track a go and asked if I would like to join her. Because I am a loving daughter and also because I’m trying to get my beach body in check I said, albeit a little grudgingly, “sure”. ALSO, the “comfort” few pounds gained when I was still with my ex-boyfriend are no joke so, I repeat, I really want to get my beach body in check.

So, my mom and I made our way to the track and because simply walking bores me, I thought that I would try to run as much as I could before taking a walking break. And LET ME TELL YOU, the ol’ smoker’s lungs were on FIRE. Despite this, I walked/ran (rawked) a mile and a quarter and felt pretty happy about it. Granted, it felt like pure and utter torture, but it was sort of fun? Can torture be fun? I guess the answer is YES.

My mom and I have gone to the track five times within the week during the evening and each time, I’ve been able to run a little bit longer than I was able to the last time. This is exciting to me. For those of you who don’t know, I was a competitive figure skater for a long time but gave it up when I was about sixteen (I’m 22 now). I miss doing things that involve athleticism (even though shopping is a sport, damnit), so it felt really good to be able to do something to get the blood pumping again and put my legs of steel to use.

Am I going to be the next Usain Bolt any time soon? Absolutely not. But I would be ecstatic if I could make it around the track once (which is a quarter mile) at a run without stopping to walk. It’s nice to have goals to accomplish even if they’re small and it’s also fun being able to be with my mom even if we’re just waving at each other from our different locations on the track.

I never thought that I’d say that I was actually looking forward to going for a rawk and getting sweaty, but I definitely find myself looking forward to it during the day. I even want to start hitting the ice again, although it would be just for fun. Being motivated in an athletic way for the first time in a long time feels good and I know my beach body goals will be achieved sooner or later. So here’s to bikini shopping not being a total pain this year!

^^^ As always, I have no rights to this song or video (I wish I did!!).

So there you have it, this week’s Monday Update: Take A Walk Edition! How do you plan on achieving your perfect beach bod this year? Who else enjoys a good walk, run, or rawk? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

Monday Update: Special Delivery Edition

Monday Update: Special Delivery Edition

Hi everyone and a very happy Monday to all of you! This Friday, a super special package was delivered to yours truly from a giveaway that I won and I’m so hyped that I just had to blog about it. Seriously, I never win anything. Ever. So, obviously, I was extremely excited when I found out that I won a giveaway that the darling Julie was running on her page, Beauty & A Book. I wouldn’t say that I have “bad” luck, so to speak, but my luck is never exactly “good” either, so after a super sucky week thanks to the Little Red Love Machine getting tboned, a giveaway win was just what the doctor ordered! Take a look at my new hair care goodies:

giveaway2

^^^ Woohoo!

My Prizes:

  • Salon Tech heat protecting spray (which is awesome because I flat iron my hair every day)
  • Salon Tech shampoo (which will be going to my mom because I don’t wash my hair)
  • Eurora face and body moisturizer
  • A new copper core brush

Okay – and just to clarify, yes: I don’t wash my hair. Well, I wash it once a month when I’m redying it but that’s all. Although, I wouldn’t even consider that “washing” because I only condition my hair after dying it. My fiery red locks would be nonexistent if I washed my hair frequently. The last time I remember thoroughly washing my hair was…I actually don’t remember! But, my hair is all the better for it and that’s all I have to say about that!

ANYWAYS, I want to send a HUGE thank you to Julie from Beauty & A Book for sending your girl some giveaway loving. It infinitely brightened a super dumb week so merci beaucoup!

I would love to be able to send Julie some followers on her social media platforms because, unfortunately, I only have a Facebook! So please give her a follow on Twitter, Instagram, or Snapchat with her handle: jeweleemc

THANKS!! πŸ˜‰

So there you have it, this week’s Monday Update: Special Delivery Edition! How was everyone’s Easter weekend? Would you consider yourself as having good or bad luck? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

Monday Update: Sister’s Birthday Celebration Edition

Monday Update: Sister’s Birthday Celebration Edition

Heyyy everyone and happy Monday! This past weekend was SO much fun because it was my sister, Kristen’s, 25th birthday! We had such a wonderful time celebrating and I was really happy because I got to spend her entire birthday with her. Kristen is unbearably hard to shop for, so for her birthday I decided to keep it simple and snag her some gift cards so that we could make a day out of using them. Which is exactly what we did!

I got Kristen a gift card to Sephora and to the nail salon that we go to, so we spent the afternoon girling out with pedicures and makeup shopping. Although I didn’t get a pedi because balling on a budget, I got to soak my nasty feet and sit in a massage chair while Kristen got pampered and we had so much fun chit chatting and laughing with all of our favorite nail techies. Kristen got the Hello Kitty pink polish that I recently got on my nails on her toes and it looked so freaking cute! I can’t say that about my feet, but I’m glad that her toesies are on point just in time for flip flop season!

After pedicures, we went to the mall to ultimately spend what felt like forever in Sephora. I have actually never spent that much time in there before and it was surprisingly really fun. We tried on different lipsticks and browsed through the aisles pointing out ridiculous eyeshadow or lip colors and figuring out the best way for her to spend her gift card. Kristen ended up getting a gorgeous new lipstick and an eyebrow pencil as well as a birthday gift from the store (a blush and lip gloss) and some freebies that she got from cashing in the points on her reward card.

Although I tried on some okay-ish lipsticks, I just ended up going with a tube of the Better Than Sex mascara. Kristen got it for me for Christmas this year and since I’ve ran out, no other mascara can compare, so it was a must to get another one! I was really happy because the gift card that I got her covered everything that she wanted and she also got some super nice freebies, so she walked away with an awesome Sephora birthday haul.

Once we were done shopping, I treated Kristen to coffee and then dropped her off at her apartment so that she could get ready for the evening festivities. Our night was a boozy celebration of going to get margaritas with her friends and then hitting the bars afterwards for some more alcohol related fun. AND I also got to ride in my first Uber, so that was really exciting, lol. THE DRIVER WAS SO NICE!! #ubereverywhere

bdayyyyybdayyy

(The lovely lady in the second photo, Kelsey, will be featured on lifewithlilred soon so keep your eyes peeled!)

The day after Kristen’s birthday was spent nursing a very worthwhile hangover and celebrating at home with the family. I know I had a blast and it felt really good knowing that Kristen did, too, and I like to think that I helped make that possible! Now, I’m just excited for my birthday to roll around in June so that she can return the favor!

So there you have it, this week’s Monday Update: Sister’s Birthday Celebration Edition! How did you celebrate your birthday this year? How did you spend your weekend? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

Monday Update: Spring Cleaning Edition

Monday Update: Spring Cleaning Edition

Hiii everyone and happy Monday! The weather in Ohio has been insanely springy these past few days which is crazy, because our winters can be brutal. The sixty degrees and sunny weekend had me outside reading while listening to music, driving with the windows down, and taking my precious pups on long walks. The warm weather also resulted in a hard bite from the spring cleaning bug which left me with a much cleaner closet and desk which I am so happy about!

I didn’t really have any intention of spending my Sunday evening spring cleaning but I wanted to find a spot in my room to display my college degree, which is what began the process. I still haven’t found the perfect spot to put it but I did manage to clean off my desk and clear up some of the clutter in my closet so I guess my degree display can wait! Over the winter, my desk turned into more of an additional storage unit as opposed to an actual work space. Between multiple jobs and random odds and ends, my desk became the piece of furniture where paperwork, knick knacks, and whatever else I couldn’t find a specific space for in my room went.

The most obnoxious thing on my desk, though, was a cute container full of accessories like beanies, gloves, and bandanas that I had no idea where to house in my room. I knew that if I found a spot for them, that I would clear up a lot of additional space so I decided to create my own accessories drawer in my dresser. As I opened up the drawers and tried to figure out what I could condense into a shared space, I found hope in my very bottom drawer. I cleared it out and gave all of the items in it a new home, and then created this little nook for my clothing accessories:

I’m admittedly not the best at DIY solutions for storage problems and decor but I was really happy with my idea for an accessories drawer. It definitely helped free up my desk top clutter and I was able to put all of my outfit extras into a space where they wouldn’t collect dust and are easily attainable. I was able to finally see accessories that I haven’t worn in forever that were shoved into the bottom of my original container, which was really satisfying and left me feeling like I just returned from the mall with all of these old but new goodies.

Hopefully, I find a suitable place to put my degree soon but I would still say that this cleaning sesh was a success!

So there you have it, this week’s Monday Update: Spring Cleaning Edition! What is the weather like in your neck of the woods today? Who has started some early spring cleaning for themselves already? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

Monday Update: 24 Hour Fasting Edition

Monday Update: 24 Hour Fasting Edition

Hiii everyone and happy Monday! I hope you all had a fab weekend. So, I’m not gonna lie, this past holiday season (as amazing as it was) left me feeling far less than confident about my body. With big events like my graduation party, Christmas, and New Year’s, I was left feeling bloated and just not okay. And the fact that Ohio winters are freaking frigid leaves outdoor activities out of the option when it’s a whole fifteen degrees out!

Normally, I have few body blues now, which I am so thankful for, but the utter lack of confidence that I felt about the newly found tightness in my clothing made me kind of freak out. My weight typically fluctuates give or take five pounds but what I had was a weight gain that I could notice in the way my clothes fit and the way I felt and I hated it.

I had heard about 24 Hour Fasting before just from the random online articles and crazy celebrity diets that you might hear about on E! and I figured that I might as well give it a go. I liked that it was something that I could start right away without having to prepare for a shopping trip to the grocery store to stock up on all things healthy. It was also something that I knew that I would be successful at because my eating schedule is so haphazard as is that sometimes I only end up eating a meal at dinner which is what the 24 hour fast would leave me with.

So, two week ago, the plan was to have a meal that was something that I would normally eat at five o’clock in the afternoon and I was to eat enough to feel satisfied. Then, my next meal would commence twenty-four hours later. Initially and admittedly, it sounds crazy. But, my god, was it effective. After one week of following this plan strictly, my clothes were left fitting back to normal if not, looser than before. My stomach looked nice and flat and I was SO pleased.

Don’t ask me the amount of weight that I lost because I refuse to weigh myself but I knew that it was enough to get me back to feeling totally normal. The following week, I was less strict with the plan because of the progress that was made and only did the fast for three days. By the end of the week I was happy to see that I was still looking and feeling as good as I did at the end of the first week.

Now, for this week I plan on fasting for two days and then working my way back into a normal eating routine afterwards. I will say that the 24 hour fast is not for everyone – especially for those with diabetes or other medical conditions which require eating throughout the day. However, for those that are trying to lose a little weight and are able to not eat for a significant amount of time and not feel lightheaded, then I think the 24 hour fast is a great way to go.

If this is something that you would be interested in, then I recommend doing a lot of research before you start. I looked into it by reading articles and blog posts about the fast and made sure that I felt comfortable with it before I started. In the future, I plan on perhaps doing two or three days of 24 hour fasting once a month (or none at all) and leave it at that because I am really happy with my results! I am also especially happy that I can say bye bye to the tummy that I gained compliments of going too hard this holiday season. πŸ™‚

So there you have it, this week’s Monday Update: 24 Hour Fasting Edition! What is one of the craziest diets that you have tried? How do you personalize intermittent fasting for yourself? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

Monday Update: Car Crash Edition

Monday Update: Car Crash Edition

Hii everyone and happy Monday! I hope all of you had a wonderful weekend and a great time ringing in 2017. Unfortunately for me, my weekend kind of sucked because on Friday I got rear ended and I’m STILL annoyed about it! My beloved Little Red Love Machine, AKA my 2012 Mazda 2 hatchback, got a bit of a bumper boo boo but thankfully the other guy and I are okay. Let’s discuss and I’ll tell you how ridiculous this accident was:

So, I’m returning home from dropping my sister off at her apartment and am literally THREE MINUTES away from arriving back at the home front. (I guess it’s true when they say that you’re more likely to get in an accident when you’re closer to home.) Anyways, I am sitting behind at least eight or more cars at a red light just minding my own business and listening to my Learn French In Your Car tapes.

As I’m doing my thang and getting my French on, I decided to take a look see at my rear view mirror just out of habit. That’s when I see a car approaching at at least thirty-five miles per hour and he doesn’t appear to be stopping anytime soon. I legitimately didn’t know what to do. It was crazy, because I knew as soon as I saw the car coming that I was going to get hit so all I could do was lay down on my horn and brace myself for the inevitable.

CRASHHHHHHHHH.

Just as I secured my foot on the brakes and hoped that they would stay there so that I didn’t run into the car in front of me, the Little Red Love Machine was hit. The guy driving the enemy vehicle and I pulled over into the parking lot that we were in front of and after making sure that we were both okay, I phoned the police. It was weird. I’ve never been in an accident before, let alone called 911, so as soon as I hung up the phone I awkwardly told the guy that I was going to wait in my car. To put in mildly: I was freezing my nads off.

In my defense – all I had on was my slippers, a pair of leggings, and a long sleeved top because I wasn’t anticipating waiting outside with a person who hit my car and it was freezing, as Ohio tends to be in the winter. Rather, I was planning on being in my nice, warm car until my return home. Because I was clueless on “what to do after my car has been hit” etiquette on top of being cold and friggen annoyed, I don’t think I said ten words to the guy. Lol, whatever.

Long story short, the police came to where we were located, looked over our cars, talked to both of us, and then gave us the go ahead to go home. Honestly, it looks like the guy who hit me got the shittier end of the stick, if you will, because I am pretty sure he had to get his car towed. Sucks to suck!

But, the worst thing of all is that I am 99.99% sure that I heard him tell the police that he didn’t have insurance and that’s what really pissed me off. So, let me get this straight: you were blatantly not paying attention to the road to the point that you didn’t notice a red light and a significant line of cars and I’ll be the one paying my deductible if I chose to get my car repaired? SO. STUPIDDDD.

The only good thing that came out of that evening was that my dad got me post accident Taco Bell but other than that I was mad. Getting rear ended is dumb. It’s seriously the lamest type of a car accident because 1) The person being hit did nothing wrong and 2) It could have been avoided if people just pay attention to the road. Jesus!

I guess in conclusion to this long rant I will say that I encourage everyone to be a lot safer when they’re driving. Wear your seat belts. Don’t text or talk on the phone. PAY ATTENTION! Then, maybe you won’t wind up hitting a girl who worked her ass off to afford her dream car and has to write a long blog post afterwards to deal with it.

So, there you have it, this week’s Monday Update: Car Crash Edition. What is your biggest pet peeve while driving? What do you do to ease a case of road rage? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

Pampering Party (Wahhh!)

Standard
Pampering Party (Wahhh!)

Hi everyone and happy Monday! This past week has been not the best at Chez Red because I have literally been sick for seven days straight. I have had an absolutely miserable cold complete with cough, body aches, headaches, sore throat, the chills, and night sweats. On top of feeling like DEATH, it is now finals week at school which is super stressful which seems to just make me sicker!

I am feeling very bitter about this bug because it completely ruined the pampering that happened last week which I was so looking forward to. I was scheduled to dye my hair, get my nails filled, and get a haircut. These are all things that I freaking love to do and unfortunately, I felt miserable to the point that I couldn’t enjoy any of it during each pampering activity.

My hair dying sesh resulted in a bloody nose and massive chills. Thanks to frequent nose blowing and an accidental stab from my talon acrylics, I was left with a bloody nose worthy of sticking a tampon in. Then, the cold water shower which was a necessity to washing out the dye and maintaining a lustrous shade of red left me in shivers in my skivvies for days. In hindsight, dying my hair and doing a cold water hair wash while sick was just plain asinine but damnit, my hair needed itΒ real bad!!!

Later on in the week, I needed to get my nails filled so that they could be perfect for my graduation ceremony next week. Probably not the best idea either. The strong nail polish smells at the salon went straight to my head and not even my beloved nail tech, Vinny, could help me feel better. The worst, though, was when my nails were put in front of a fan to start the drying process. I instantly began to sweat and get clammy and I like to think of myself as a not sweaty person. I left the salon a big blubbering ball of phlegm and damp clothing but my nails looked fabulous, darling.

And finally, this weekend it was time for a haircut. I was so looking forward to getting my hair styled for my big day and wanted nothing more than to sit comfortably in the chair and let my stylist work her magic. Naturally, this didn’t happen. My week long nightmare left me feeling so achy and irritable that everything made me want to scream, or cry, or BOTH. So best believe when those little bitty microscopic hairs got snipped from my head and wound up down my shirt I was about to have an emotional breakdown. I’m telling you guys, it’s hard out there for a pimp.

Now that I am feeling about eighty percent better, I can finally fully admire the work that was done on me. My hair looks gorgeous and my nails are fierce. But at the time, nothing made me feel happy or attractive which is surprising considering I tried to surround myself with all things pretty! A Pampering Party did happen but it was not fun or relaxing in the slightest. I can only hope that the next time I need to throw some paint on the old barn that I am feeling in tip top physical condition!

Who is suffering from a winter cold or flu right now? What are your go to remedies for easing the yucks and aches? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah
