How Should You Deal With Your Anxiety Problems?

How Should You Deal With Your Anxiety Problems?

Are you noticing some of the symptoms of anxiety, such as panic, uneasiness, sleep problems, or an inability to stay calm? You might not even have realized that the problems you’re experiencing are to do with an anxiety issue. But you need to take action sooner rather than later if you are showing signs of anxiety. Symptoms tend to increase and get worse over time if you don’t take action, but how should you deal with the problem?

There are many different ways in which you can tackle anxiety head-on and rid yourself of the problem once and for all. Now is the time to look into the concrete steps that are worth taking, so read on to learn more about them:

Work on Controlling Your Breathing:

The first thing you can do is get better at controlling your breathing, and even though this might sound like a relatively small and minor thing, it actually has a pretty big impact on your life and the way you handle your anxiety. Once you’ve mastered your breathing and become able to control it in whatever way you want to, you will be able to cancel out the worst symptoms that are associated with anxiety. Of course, it’s not a one size fits all fix to anxiety problems, but it’s certainly a very good place to start.

Get Into the Habit of Talking About Things:

Sometimes, talking about your problems and how you’re feeling can be all you need in order to get back on track and take control once more. At the very least, you will find that by getting into the habit of talking about what you’re feeling, you will feel like that problem is less of a burden. Even though it sounds like the simplest thing in the world, talking about problems and deeply personal things like this can be incredibly difficult and hard to do. Friends and family are always a good place to start for talking about your feelings. Or, you could do a search for “San Francisco-area counseling and psychotherapy” (or for your local area) to schedule an appointment with a therapist. This can be most helpful if you are looking for an unbiased opinion, but it all depends on what you are most comfortable with.

Try to Live in the Moment:

Living in the moment is more than just another cliche that gets thrown around a lot. You need to remember just how influential the power of your mentality is. If you can look at your life and the way you experience it in the right way, it can help you to live in the moment and stop focusing on your worries and concerns. That’s a big part of what causes someone to experience difficulties with anxiety, so make sure you start making more of a conscious effort to live in the moment each day of the week.

Consider Cognitive Behavioral Therapy:

Forms of therapy are known to help people who are struggling with problems relating to anxiety. Therapy is believed to be the best and most successful form of treatment for people with anxiety problems, and the most common among them is cognitive behavioural therapy. It’s about working through your problems and finding practical ways in which to respond to them. That will mean that your behaviors will change and improve when anxiety strikes, and that should help you stop the symptoms and stay in complete control. As long as you collaborate with a professional on this, the results should be great.

Talk to Your Doctor About Medication Options:

Medication is an option for people who are struggling with anxiety issues, and there are many of them out there. Many people are scared by the idea of taking medication for anxiety issues, but there are options that will help without causing any harm. If you’ve consulted with your doctor and can make arrangements, even things like medical marijuana delivery are worth considering. Local dispensaries are also becoming more and more common. However, if there are none in your area, you can turn to sources online – best of lists or Area52.com are good options to browse through. Anything that helps to reduce your anxiety without putting your body at risk is worth thinking about. Let your doctor guide you and make an informed decision before doing anything with regards to medication.

Mindfulness and Applied Relaxation:

Mindfulness is a technique that can be used to ensure that your anxiety is dealt with at its root. You will find that when you’re more aware of your mental processes and when you’re mindful of your actions and surroundings, your anxiety symptoms can be mitigated. Applied relaxation is another similar technique that is often used to treat anxiety problems. It’s all about making a conscious effort to relax and find time to dedicate to that. It’s something that most people don’t do in the course of their every day lives, but you should make yourself an exception to that rule.

Understand Your Triggers:

Everyone has their own triggers, and these can sometimes have an impact on how your anxiety affects you. For some people, certain social situations can cause anxiety. When you understand when your anxiety is likely to strike, you work on preparing for that and finding ways to control and treat your anxiety better. However, it’s not about avoiding situations in which your anxiety causes you problems because that’s not going to help you overcome them and move forward in life. Sometimes, confronting and dealing with your problems is necessary. It can be difficult to overcome your triggers and is something you might need additional support with from a therapist. To begin researching different options, simply enter a search for “anxiety treatment melbourne” (or your local area) to find the best fit for you.

Don’t Give Up if These Options Don’t Work For You:

Even if none of the things we’ve talked about above work for you, you still shouldn’t give up because it’s not the end of the world. There are so many other treatments and options out there, and you should discuss them with your doctor. Mental health problems are now taken more seriously than ever before, so you will get help if you’re willing to ask for it.

Anxiety is a mental health problem that affects a lot of people, and it emerges for a variety of different reasons. Taking action is essential because the problem will only intensify if you ignore it or accept it. Getting past your anxiety problem is more than possible; you just need to take action as soon as possible.

New Year’s Resolutions Worth Keeping

New Year’s Resolutions Worth Keeping

The clock strikes 12, it’s finally 2018. Everybody is celebrating and a lot of people are coming up with new year’s resolutions. A lot of them involve losing weight or drinking less alcohol and they don’t usually last that long. If you go to the gym at the beginning of January, it’ll be packed but just a few weeks later, half of those people have gone. The generic resolutions that people make often go out of the window because they just aren’t that valuable. If you really want to make something stick, you need to pick a great resolution that will make a significant positive change in your life, just like some of these:

Quit Smoking:

We don’t need to tell you that smoking is bad for your health so if you’re a smoker, the start of a new year is a great opportunity to try to quit. The reason that most people fail is because they try to go cold turkey straight away. It’s difficult to succeed that way and if you’re serious about quitting, you need some help. Get some e-cigarettes and CBD juice to replace the cigarettes. It’s not the ideal situation because you’re still relying on that e-cigarette but it’s a good stepping stone and it’s nowhere near as bad for your health. There is also loads of great free help and advice on quitting smoking that you can get, which you can speak to your doctor about.

Drink Less Alcohol:

The key word here is ‘less.’ If you try to cut out drinking completely, you’ll get to the end of the week and find that you fancy a drink with friends. There’s nothing wrong with having a casual drink once or twice a week. What you should be doing instead is just cutting down on drinking. For example, if you would have a drink after work during the week, cut that out and just stick to weekends. Or you could just go out on Saturday instead of Friday and Saturday. These small changes will improve your health and save you a bit of money, but they don’t constitute a huge change to your lifestyle like giving up drinking completely would.

Cut Out Toxic People:

Most new year’s resolutions are focused around improving yourself by cutting out unhealthy habits, but you probably haven’t thought about cutting out people. When you’re around people that are overly negative all of the time, that rubs off on you and it can really affect your mood. If you spend a lot of your time with people like this, it can make you feel very negative yourself which has a knock on effect on all areas of your life and stop you from improving yourself. Cutting somebody out of your life can be difficult and it’s often very awkward, but you’ve just got to be upfront about it. Simply tell them that you don’t want to be around them while they’re being so negative. In a lot of cases, you might find that it’s the kick they need to make a change in their own life and you won’t end up cutting them out at all.

These three resolutions are valuable ones that you can keep easily and will positively affect your health, mental health, and wallet.

Blah, Meh, Whomp Whomp Whomp

Heyyy everyone. Is it just me, or is 2018 feeling totally lackluster? Recent single digit temps in good ol’ Akron, Ohio have given me a case of cabin fever to no end and, as the title of this post reads, I am definitely feeling Blah, Meh, Whomp Whomp Whomp. Is it a lack of Vitamin D? Maybe. Is therapy not helpful? No, I wouldn’t say that. Therapy has been going pretty well, actually.

SO WHAT IS IT?!

I don’t know!! The doldrums are so real, though. I just feel so stagnant at the moment, and it’s not a good feeling. Between multiple jobs, one would think that stagnant is the last word to describe my life. Not the case. I feel so bored. So indifferent. I wouldn’t go as far as to say depressed…but it definitely could escalate to that.

I feel stressed about wanting to move out. I feel stressed about feeling stressed. I feel stressed about feeling so below average. And we’re barely even into the new year!! So, what gives? Sometimes, I feel like the new year puts a lot of pressure on people. Pressure to instantly get happy or instantly turn their life around. Obviously, this is never the case. But, it sure does suck on ice when that’s the mindset around the holiday and you feel yourself going backwards instead of forward.

Oyyyy, sorry. I needed to throw myself a little pity party. But, now that the party hat is off, the cake has been binge ate, and I’m still feeling like shit, I guess that it’s time to get back on the horse and try again for a better day tomorrow.

How do you shake away the new year blahs? What do you think 2018 has in store for you? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

Are You TBD About CBD Oil?

Standard
Are You TBD About CBD Oil?

They say that you can’t judge a book by its cover… Nor can you judge a human being on their appearance, their reputation, or the first impression that they make on you. Not only is it unfair on the individual in question, but it precludes you from the myriad of pleasures that come with getting to know a person for who they are. So it is in the world of medicine, particularly holistic medicine. There are many people out there who are quick to judge the efficacy or the entire concept of holistic medicine regardless of the benefits that they may personally reap from it. Despite various civilizations using them for centuries, there are some plant based medicines that many of us are unsure of due to their unfortunate reputations.

When you read the word cannabis, a few unsavory images might pop into your head. You might picture the infamous plant as the self prescribed medication of choice for bleary eyed undergraduates or underachieving slackers. Yet, for all its unfortunate reputation, the plant has numerous proven health benefits. Particularly CBD oil, which has numerous health benefits without the psychoactive “high” that many associate with the plant:

What is CBD oil?

Cannabidiol (CBD) oil is extracted from industrial hemp plants using various methods. One common debate in the industry is co2 extraction vs ethanol, as both have their advantages. CO2 extraction is known for its purity and precision, while ethanol extraction is often praised for its efficiency and cost-effectiveness. Understanding the differences between these methods can help manufacturers choose the best process for their needs. These plants are specifically bred to produce a high yield of cannabidiol while maintaining low THC levels that do not cause a high. While CBD has several medicinal uses, it may cause minor side effects such as dry mouth, low blood pressure, drowsiness, and lightheadedness.

CBD products are also something that can be purchased in store or online. Lots of websites boast a plethora of different products as well as additional information for you to brush up on. Your local health food store or Royal CBD are both great places to start.

For pain:

Thousands of studies have proven that CBD oil has anti inflammatory properties that are very effective in combating muscular or joint pain and arthritis. It has also proven to be effective in the combating of more serious physical ailments including cancer pain, epilepsy, pain from multiple sclerosis, and inflammatory bowel and Crohn’s disease. Furthermore it can even prevent the spreading of cancer and slow the onset of Alzheimer’s.

There are also products like terpenes that can work effectively with CBD to reduce inflammation and boast a number of other benefits. You can see what Remedy Review says about pain minimizing products like terpenes and make your own decision.

For mental health:

Many associate cannabis based products with memory loss, erratic behavior, and other mental health problems. This has been exacerbated by the widespread use of spice; a synthetic drug designed to replicate the psychoactive effects of cannabis use but with none of the health benefits of the plant. The truth, however, is that CBD oil is effective in combating a range of mental health issues including anxiety, insomnia, addiction, schizophrenia, poor appetite, chronic nightmares, and even Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.

For you and your pets:

Many people around the world are embracing the health benefits of CBD oil not only for themselves but for their children and even their furry friends, too. A lot of the same issues that CBD oil helps to combat in humans can also be aided in pets. CBD use for dogs via oil infused treats helps to combat a range of doggy disorders. Everything from arthritis to aggression and even cancer pain can be treated with CBD oil.

Despite this innocent plant’s widespread use as a recreational drug, hopefully this post will alert you to the beneficial and completely legal uses of CBD oil as a safe and scientifically proven treatment if you’re still TBD about CBD.

Ensuring Your New Year’s Resolutions Stick

Standard
Ensuring Your New Year’s Resolutions Stick

The New Year is upon us, and if you’re like the majority of people in the western world, chances are that you’ve made a resolution or two. Perhaps you’ve decided to make 2018 the year you get serious about exercising, giving up drugs and alcohol, or volunteering in your local community.

Whatever your resolutions are, if you want to stick to them, you’re going to have to get serious because approximately 80 percent of all resolutions are broken by February! If you want to buck that trend, here are a few things that you can do:

Small Steps:

In January, it makes sense to start small. Instead of resolving to spend six days in the gym every week, start with two or three. That way, your resolutions will be much easier to stick to, and you can build upon them as time goes by instead of doing too much too soon, burning out and failing!

One Thing at a Time:

You might want to quit smoking, take up lifting, and eliminate any and all junk from your diet, but numerous studies have shown that the more you try to do, the less likely you are to succeed at changing any of your habits. So, instead of doing the traditional thing of writing down multiple resolutions and trying to work on them all at once, try working on one at a time. Once you’ve got the exercising habit down, then start working on your diet, and so on. Chances are you’ll be much more successful.

Share Them:

Whatever your New Year’s resolutions are, it’s always worth sharing them with others, whether that be friends, family, or even a dedicated support group. Why? Because once you let people know what your intentions are, you’ll be more motivated to stick to your goals and see results, so that you don’t let them down. Not only that but having the support of a group can make the whole process simpler.

Track It:

Whether you’re using an app to track how many pounds you’ve lost, a calendar to mark off every day you’ve gone without a drink/smoke/etc., or something like My Fitness Pal to log the nutritional value of your food, keeping track of your progress is a great way to keep your head in the game. Try it!

goals1

Log that progress!

Seek Help:

Whether it’s a personal trainer, an intervention specialist, or your spouse, asking for help from someone who understands your issues and wants to help you overcome them can be a very effective way of not only sticking to your resolutions but of achieving your goals, too.

Don’t Be Too Hard on Yourself:

Remind yourself that there isn’t such a thing as perfection. Just because you caved and ate a piece of cake a week after you vowed to give up sugar doesn’t mean that you’re a failure. The only thing that will make you a failure is throwing in the towel. Most people slip when they’re trying to make positive changes to their lives. But it is the ones who don’t beat themselves up, who stand back up, and keep fighting, who get to where they want to be eventually!

Good Luck!

Is It Time To Make More Room For Yourself In Your Life?

Standard
Is It Time To Make More Room For Yourself In Your Life?

If you’re the kind of person that finds it hard to put themselves first, you’re not alone. So many of us tend to put others, especially our loved ones, before ourselves. It’s only natural. We want to make sure that they’re happy and healthy, content and comforted, and we’ll deal with our own needs after. But sometimes, when this is something that you do all of the time, you may find that you get taken advantage of.

You may also realize that you’re not really getting what you want out of life, because you’re not working on you, but others instead. So, there’s going to come a time where you need to put yourself first. While it will take work, you’ll be able to become your best self. So let’s take a look at how you can make more time for yourself in your life:

Allow Yourself To Relax: When this is something that you’re really not used to, you’re going to want to start off slow. And a great way to do that is to allow yourself to relax a bit. In a way, this is encouraging you to make time for your own needs and happiness. So get yourself a scent diffuser machine, find the best bath products, and create a cozy space at home just for you. Then, by slowly relaxing more and more, you’ll be able to ensure that you’re comforted and rested, and you start to see why putting yourself first counts.

Fill Your Time How You Choose: If you’re someone that tends to do what others want you to do, you’re going to get to a point where you realize that you’re not really living for you. So, you’re going to want to start being a bit more assertive on how you spend your time. Be sure to fill up your life with the things you love, and you’ll instantly feel like you’re living a whole lot more.

Make Time For A Social Life: Whether you’re someone that spends a lot of their time working or you just tend to focus on the needs of others too much, you may not have much of a social life. It’s time that you changed that. By making more time for a social life, not only will you be able to do more of the things that you love, but you should find a circle of friends who care about your well being as much as you do.

Focus On Your Health: Making more time for yourself isn’t always about the things you do with your time, it’s also about how you treat yourself. You should definitely look to focus on your health a little more. When you improve your health, your mind and body will feel better and, in turn, you’ll be able to feel happier too.

Learn To Say No: And finally, you’re going to want to learn to say no more. Because when you’re stronger, you’ll be able to start making choices that will benefit your life, rather than make you unhappy. That always starts with the ability to say no to things and people when it could negatively effect your lifestyle.

2018 is all about loving yourself, which means taking the best care of you as much as possible. Try starting out with the above tips and seeing how you feel!

It’s Time You Learned To Relax!

Standard
It’s Time You Learned To Relax!

Life can be stressful. That’s probably not going to be the most controversial statement that you read all day, but it’s certainly true. Most people end up feeling incredibly stressed out and tense, simply because that seems to be the standard mode of operation for people in the modern world. Between work, family, chores, hobbies, and trying to maintain some kind of social life, most of us have so much that we’re trying to do that it can be overwhelming. With that in mind, it’s that you learned how to relax! Here are just a few ideas for how you can finally start to kick back and let the troubles of the world roll off your back:

Take Time For Yourself:

Most people have a lot of responsibilities that they have to honor throughout the day, and many of those can consist of doing things for other people. Helping others and being there for the people in your life is incredibly important and is something everyone should try to do as much as possible. However, if you’re helping other people so much that you lack time to focus on yourself, then you’re going to end up exhausted. Every once in awhile, get the kids and your partner out of the house, put your phone on silent, check out some of the best dry herb vapes at DopeBoo, and just spend some time focusing on yourself.

The reality is, that if you can’t take care of yourself, then you’re never going to be able to take care of anyone else, either! Pencil in time for relaxation and self care. It could be as little as a five minute meditation or perhaps something like booking an afternoon at a spa. To find the best places to pamper, simply enter a search for “swedish massage in North Wales, PA” (or your local area) and you will be ready to unwind!

Learn To Say No:

When there are people in your life, whether it’s at work or at home, asking you to do things, it can be tough to tell them no. In fact, most of us are trained from a pretty early age to never turn someone down if they ask us to do something. You end up feeling as though your friends will be angry with you if you don’t help them or that you’re going to pay for it at work if you don’t take on every single task that your boss asks you to. But the truth is that you’re well within your rights to say no to things if you don’t feel like you can handle them. As long as you’re polite and you explain yourself properly, no one can get angry at you for not taking on more than you can properly deal with.

Stay On Top Of Tasks:

One of the most stressful things in the world is knowing that there’s something hanging over your head all of the time that you haven’t yet dealt with. It can make it so that even the time you spend trying to relax is nearly impossible because you’re just thinking about all of the things that you’ve yet to do. That’s why staying on top of all of the tasks that you need to do is so important. Rather than putting things off, make sure that everything, from bills that need paying to DIY jobs that need finishing, or work tasks that need to be completed, is dealt with right away without putting it off. Otherwise, you’re just going to end up swimming is unfinished tasks and you’ll never be able to relax.

Organizers are a great help!

Reach Out For Support:

It’s okay to need help from time to time. This is something that a lot of people seem to have completely forgotten. Sure, there’s something nice about being able to say that you pulled yourself up by your bootstraps and never needed anyone’s help, but the truth is that you’re going to be much happier if you let the people around you lend a helping hand. Reaching out to friends, family, your partner, and even your employer for some support can take huge amounts of pressure off of you and make your life much more pleasant and simpler to deal with. Sure, you don’t want to be dumping everything on other people, but if you try and handle it all on your own, then you’re almost certainly going to end up feeling incredibly stressed out and you could even be at risk of burning out.

Take a deep breath, take some time for you, and walk back into your life feeling totally recharged and able to take on the day!

Tips For Your Healthiest New Year Yet

Standard
Tips For Your Healthiest New Year Yet

It’s usually around this time of the year that we realize that the months have flown by. Christmas is right around the corner and the end of the year is fast approaching. And with that, we tend to think ahead to what the new year will bring. Some of us will do this in good faith, hoping for a vast improvement on the current year, while others will be a little more pessimistic, thinking that most years are the same. Regardless of which camp you fall into, you may be thinking about making a commitment to be healthier next year. If that’s the case, then good for you – but be sure to read the do’s and don’ts of how to do it first:

Don’t Go Cold Turkey:

For most people, when they think about making healthy changes to their diet and lifestyle, they tend to think that going cold turkey is the answer. From cutting out sugar, coffee, and fatty foods to trying to take up an intense exercise regime, they tend to go from a somewhat unhealthy lifestyle to one that’s super strict. And guess what? It doesn’t last! Mainly because it’s too much of a change and it’s not realistic. When you make unrealistic changes like this, you’re going to find them too hard to stick to. When you want to commit to a healthy change, you need to know that it’s going to last. So, in this case, gradual changes are often best.

Do Read Reviews:

Whatever it is that you’re thinking of doing, be sure that you read up on it first. When you find detailed information like the AlgaeCal reviews, you’re going to find that you get all of the background information that you need. Then, you can make a call on whether that change or product, in particular, is good for you.

Do Talk To Your Doctor:

It’s also always a smart idea to talk to your doctor about any changes that you’re thinking of making. Firstly, this is so that they can be aware of what you’re doing. But it’s also so that they can be sure that you’re not making any rapid changes that could damage your health. At the same time, they will advise you on what’s best to do, as well as carry out key health checks to make sure that you start off on the right track.

Don’t Do Anything Drastic:

Even though it can be tempting, you really do have to make sure that you don’t do anything drastic. Anything dangerous or unhealthy, like over-exercising or restricting yourself with food, can seriously damage your health, and this will counteract what your initial commitment is trying to achieve. So be sure to relax, enjoy it, and be patient for your health to improve.

Smoothies are a great in between meals snack!

Do Focus On The Change:

Above all else, be sure to focus on the change that you’ve committed to make. It’s easy to convince yourself that you need to cut back, but remember that this is a lifestyle change and not a diet. You need to focus on the change of being healthier, and nothing else!

Start out your new year with a bang, and be sure to follow these tips for your healthiest year yet!

Why It’s Never Too Late To Learn How To Play An Instrument

Standard
Why It’s Never Too Late To Learn How To Play An Instrument

“I should have learned to play the guitar, should’ve learned to play them drums”, so sang Dire Straits in 1985. While a total lack of musical knowledge or awareness hasn’t been an impediment to many people working in the music industry today, many of us regret either not having learned or abandoning the learning of a musical instrument. Today, we’ll look at why it’s never too late to pick up an instrument, the pedagogic and psychological benefits, as well as looking over some great instruments for neophyte musicians. Learning a musical instrument is more than just a fun hobby, it’s a valuable skill that has numerous cerebral benefits as well as being a cool trick to bust out a parties!

It’s literally never too late:

Virtually everyone benefits from some sort of creative outlet and while we’re all just sort of expected to find the right one in our teens or early twenties, many of us don’t find the right mode of self-expression until they get into middle or even old age. There are few subsets of people for whom the dexterity and mental faculties to play an instrument are prohibitive. If, for example, your arthritic hands make playing the guitar or piano problematic you may benefit just as much from learning the harmonica or the panpipes.

Getting over the learning curve:

The landfills are littered with guitars that were discarded because their owners deemed it “too hard”. Most of them were impatient children or teenagers (We all knew someone at school who quit their guitar lessons because they didn’t become a virtuoso within a month.). As an adult, you may surprise yourself with how well you navigate the learning curve. While your older mind may be set in its ways, you will have learned the value in persistence elsewhere in life.

For most instruments, unlocking the fundamentals is a huge step in smoothing out the steep learning curve. In guitar playing, for example, much of your musical vocabulary is formed by mastering the ‘barre chords’ – moveable chords. When one has the measure of these, they can play any minor or major chord from a good root position. It takes time to master, but it unlocks so much of the instrument’s potential when you do. When this obstacle is hurdled, a player has the inside scoop in learning to cover their favorite music and even learning to write their own.

Cerebral and psychological benefits:

When playing (or even listening) to music, multiple areas of the brain become active. Musicians may look calm and composed but there are firework displays in their neurons. Processing music is actually an incredibly complex mental process, giving our brains a great workout that most of the time we’re not even aware of. It keeps our brains young and aids cognitive dexterity.

Finding the right instrument:

Hopefully, you’ve been moved to consider taking up a musical instrument, but you may wonder which are the best or most accessible ‘starter instruments’. String instruments such as guitar, violin, piano, cello, and bass are fairly accessible for new learners, as are the flute and clarinet. The saxophone presents a slightly steeper learning curve but it’s so ubiquitous in so many forms of music, that learning to master it opens up a lot of doors. Once you have met the basics, it will be exciting to experiment with your sound and additional equipment. For example, you might want to buy premium guitar accessories like pedals to introduce a whole new style to your playing.

There’s no such thing as the wrong instrument. Even learning an instrument that you don’t stick with tends to be a gateway to learning more. And isn’t it always fun to try new things?!

The End Of Insomnia: Putting A Stop To Sleepless Nights

Standard
The End Of Insomnia: Putting A Stop To Sleepless Nights

It is estimated that up to 60 million Americans experience insomnia each year. If you’re familiar with lying awake watching the clock tick by painfully slowly in the early hours, you’re not alone. Although insomnia is a common problem, this doesn’t make it any less serious. The reality is, that we need sleep. Without it, there’s a risk of physical and mental health complications. If you can’t sleep and you long to wake up in the morning feeling refreshed and invigorated, hopefully this guide will prove helpful:

Setting Your Body Clock:

Many of us make the mistake of trying to catch up on sleep by napping during the day or getting up later the morning after. While this may provide temporary relief, in the long-term, it can actually exacerbate the symptoms of insomnia. Your body has an internal clock, and if you’re sleeping at all hours of the day, that clock is going to be off kilter. Try and establish a routine, which means that you go to bed and get up at the same time every day, even on the weekends. Your body will get used to this new pattern, and hopefully, you’ll find that it is easier to doze off and get up in the morning. If you lose track of time very easily and you tend to fall asleep on the sofa, set an alarm or use an app to remind you to go to bed.

insom

 Sleepy time!

Seeing Your Doctor:

If you can’t sleep on a regular basis and you can’t even remember when you last had a good night’s sleep, consider making an appointment with your doctor. If you miss out on sleep, it can have a negative impact on your health and your mental well being. People who sleep well are proven to have a lower risk of stress, anxiety, and depression and they tend to have better immunity and higher energy levels. When you see your doctor, they may recommend making some changes to your lifestyle and also your sleeping environment.

In more severe cases, they may advise you to take medication. When you pick up your prescription, read the instructions carefully. If you develop side-effects, this may be a result of taking the wrong dosage, or it may be your body’s reaction to a new medication. If you’re worried about the dosage, speak to your doctor. If you have been advised incorrectly, you may wish to consider taking legal action and seek an expert for your malpractice claim. In many cases, side-effects occur as a natural response to medication, and it is sometimes possible to switch to other drugs that may not have the same impact.

Exercising:

Exercising has multiple benefits for people who struggle to sleep. Exercise tires the body out, but it also has powerful stress and anxiety relieving properties. When you’re worried about something or you feel like you’re under pressure, this can make it really difficult to switch off at night. If you can clear your mind and relax before you get into bed, this is going to improve your sleep quality enormously. Activities that are particularly beneficial for relaxation include yoga, Pilates, Tai Chi, swimming, walking, team sports, and kickboxing. insom2.png

Leaving Work At The Office:

Do you check emails in bed or spend hours thinking about what you’ve got to do tomorrow? It’s easier said than done, but leaving work at the office is so important. Nobody is capable of working twenty-four hours a day, and it’s vital to have a healthy work/life balance. You need downtime to recover, rest, and relax. When you get home, don’t start looking at your inbox and focus on enjoying the evening. If you get a good night’s sleep, you’ll work much more efficiently the next day. Read a book, chat with your friends, watch TV, and just chill out.

Are sleepless nights taking their toll on you? If you’re not getting enough sleep, the sooner you make changes, the better. Try and adapt your routine to ensure that you go to bed and wake up at the same time each day and aim to incorporate exercise sessions and time to wind down and relax into your daily regime. If you’ve made changes, but you still can’t sleep, don’t hesitate to see your doctor. There are treatments out there that can help you tackle insomnia and get the rest you need.
