Mini Zen Garden

Howdy! This past Christmas, one of the things that I gifted for my dad was a mini zen garden that I found at Five Below – of all places! My dad loves zen inspired decor and I truly think that he is in his happy place when he tends to his beautiful garden. So, I figured a little zen garden to cultivate would be a perfect add on gift for him. And, because I try to find my inner peace through meditation, I have enjoyed caring for our tiny garden, too. Check it out:

The zen garden from Five Below came with all of the tokens seen above to create your own scene of peace and I thought that it was an amazing find. I don’t change the layout of the garden too often – maybe once a week. But, I always love when I see the location of the figurines moved because that means my dad has been enjoying it, too. He keeps the zen garden by his Laughing Buddha statue that he got in Thailand and all of it ties in with his super chill personality.

I was so happy with how much my dad liked his gift when he opened it on Christmas and I am even more thrilled that we can both use it and make a little peace together. ❤

Using Keystone Habits To Build A Healthier Daily Routine

We all have habits that we carry out every day. Some habits are healthy, such as going to bed early and drinking a lot of water. Other habits are not so healthy, e.g. smoking and snoozing the morning alarm ten times. The healthier habits we have, the better our day usually goes. Overall, this can add up to a much more productive, satisfying life. Those with healthy habits tend to achieve more, enjoy life more, and feel their best. Wouldn’t you like to be one of those people?

In this post, we’re going to focus on keystone habits. What’s a keystone habit? A keystone habit is a habit that can impact how you act the rest of the time. They are the habits that can spark chain reactions. If you’re still confused as to what this is exactly, we’re going to go through a few great keystone habits to pick up:

Making Your Bed In The Morning:

Making your bed in the morning takes mere seconds, but it’s a habit that can spark more productivity and a sense of achievement for the rest of the day. People who make their bed without fail get that sense of having completed something great before really getting the day started, and this can have a fantastic impact on mental attitudes.

Drinking A Pint Of Water Before Anything Else:

Drinking a pint of water rehydrates the body after a long sleep, flushes out toxins, and keeps us energized. Doing this before you have your daily coffee will get you off to a great start, and you’ll likely drink more water throughout the day as a result.

Exercising Earlier On In The Day:

This isn’t an essential keystone habit – some people prefer to exercise later on, and that’s fine. However, many people report feeling absolutely unstoppable after a morning workout and, of course, this can directly impact how much a person gets done during the rest of the day.

Journaling:

Journaling can free the mind from wandering and annoying thoughts. It can help you to spot patterns and come up with solutions. It can even help you to reduce your stress levels and increase your productivity! Journaling is a great way to cope with difficult times, too, so if you know you’re going to be heading somewhere like the radiation oncology department, journaling beforehand can help you to deal with your feelings and get into a more positive mindset.

Meditation:

Meditation is said to reduce stress and depression as well as improve sleep and creativity. Even just 5 minutes per day is better than nothing at all.

A Morning Routine That You Enjoy:

Getting up and starting the day with a total morning routine that you enjoy could give you a headstart on the day. For instance:

  • Brush your teeth and wash your face
  • Make your bed
  • Drink a pint of water
  • Read a chapter of a book with a coffee or tea
  • Work out
  • Eat a healthy breakfast
  • Shower and get ready for the day

3 Chilled Out Ways To Become A Master Of Relaxation

In the fast paced world of the twenty first century, it can be hard to find time to relax. The stresses of work, family, and the business of our social lives can mean that we don’t have much time to concentrate on ourselves. To master the art of relaxation, you will need to take a step back from your busy lifestyle, try to gain a bit more perspective, and foster a better work-life balance. To take a more relaxed approach to life, check out these simple ways that could see you enjoying a more chilled out existence:

Your Home:

Your property should be a haven of tranquility. It should be a place where you can enjoy feeling stress-free and happy. It can be tough to maintain a household if you have a young brood, with toys, clothes, and ‘stuff’ adorning your beautiful, humble abode. It’s vital that you can create a clutter free environment as much as possible. A clutter free home can foster a clutter free mind. At the very least, put junk away in drawers, store unwanted items in the loft, or even sell your unwanted gear.

Go room by room and see if you can add a more relaxing ambience. Your bathroom can be the perfect place to create a spa like atmosphere. Check out the scented terpenes for sale and light some essential oils to enjoy the intoxicating aromas of pine forests, ocean breezes, and citrus scents. In your bedroom, get rid of the darker, damson hues and repaint your walls a brilliant white to bounce more light across your room. A lighter room can lift your mood and make you feel more relaxed.

Yoga:

You really don’t have to be a commune dwelling hippy who loves nothing more than going through their incense collection in order to partake in a spot of yoga. Yoga is the perfect exercise to help your joints, maintain your suppleness, and help with your breathing. Breathing techniques can allow you to focus on relieving your anxieties, combating stress in a more effective way, and leaves you heading back home after a session feeling more refreshed and relaxed.

Work/Life Balance:

If you are spending too much time in the office and you’re failing to switch off when you walk through your front door in the evenings, you need to take a step back. Take the holiday you are owed or consider a sabbatical to relieve the pressure for a little while. Spend some time at home, take up a new hobby, and enjoy having some time away from work. This can help you reevaluate your job. You may choose to change careers to find more satisfaction in your nine to five existence. Go away on holiday, relax, and enjoy getting through your list of must-read novels.

Forget social media to try and switch off in the evening. The endless scrolling really is doing nothing for you. It’s time to quit the procrastinating and take a more proactive approach to becoming a master of relaxation.

The woman who runs it, Joann Xi, is the founder of the Center for Health, Happiness, and Chan. This organization promotes a mindful and contemplative lifestyle and teaches the art of meditation to those in the greater Akron area. Hi there! Something that I’ve been enjoying a lot lately is meditation. One of the libraries in my area has been hosting the two founders of a local nonprofit organization Health, Happiness, & Chan to teach meditation classes to the public. I have been going since the spring time, and found it to be really difficult. Dare I say, I even found it to be completely ineffective.

Then, we had a hiatus for a few months until the summer session began. Upon returning to classes, I had a total turn around during our hour together. I was able to complete the entire forty minute process when, before, I couldn’t even finish five minutes. It felt awesome and I left class feeling so uplifted and accomplished.

Unfortunately, but fortunately, one of our two amazing teachers (Both of whom are professors at Akron U.) has accepted a position at Harvard and is no longer with us. But, our other guru, Joanne is simply the best. I have such a strong connection with her and it was such a delight to be welcomed back to class by her with a huge hug.

Joanne has quite possibly the most beautiful voice known to mankind and, after all of us insisting on it for months, she has finally made a YouTube channel! The quality of her first few videos is not the best, but there will certainly be more to come so I wanted to share them with all of you, anyways. Joanne has such a gentle, kind, and nurturing spirit and you can literally feel it just by hearing her speak. So, subscribe and enjoy as she walks you through all different types of meditation!
