Feel Better, Look Better

Feel Better, Look Better

We all have this obsession with wanting to look perfect. We want to have that killer body, with those pearly whites, and flawless skin. But have you ever thought that in order to achieve those things, you need to ensure that you’re healthy and well on the inside? The healthier that you are, the better you will not only feel, but look too. Ever heard of that saying “my body is my temple”? Well everyone should think this way about themselves – you should worship it and want to do all that you can in order to be better.

Rather than focusing so much on how that girl’s body looks on Instagram and how she got her hair to look that shiny – think about how you can make yourself feel good. One of the biggest mistakes that every woman (and man) can make, is to compare themselves to others. Especially when it comes to a photograph. You need to realize that things aren’t all that real anymore. Those models you see in the magazines – they’ve been picked apart and had all their ‘bad’ areas photoshopped. That means no more cellulite, stretch marks, freckles, scars, or spots. So you can’t possibly compare yourself to that. Even Instagram nowadays is hard to decipher what is real and what isn’t, as there are so many filters and edits that are made within a mere few clicks of a button on a phone – you just can’t win. So put all of that attention into focusing on yourself – you haven’t got time to waste on negative thoughts.

Strengthen your mind:

You may think that improvements are to be made on your appearance, but the first place that you should be giving some love to is your mind. This is the place where all of your thoughts and feelings come from. So you know when you look in a mirror and hear those nagging voices in the back of your mind that tell you you’re not good enough? That all comes from your brain, so you need to work on changing your perception of things. One trick to doing this is telling yourself that you’re beautiful every single day. Out loud. It doesn’t matter if you feel silly. Stand up tall, look at yourself, and declare your beauty. It doesn’t matter if you don’t believe it yet – you will. Say one beautiful thing about yourself, but this doesn’t necessarily mean in terms of your looks. Think more about your traits and qualities. “I am beautiful because I’m kind.” “I am beautiful because I’m compassionate.” These reinforce the whole meaning of what beauty really is.

Give your body what it needs:

Your body needs certain nutrients and vitamins in order for it to function to the best of its ability. You should feel energized and, well, not tired and moody. All of these things are affected by what you put inside your body. Every different vitamin provides you with an essential source. This is why supplements are a good idea for people that are on the go a lot, because they don’t have to worry about not getting exactly what they need if it’s all there in a capsule, instead. KetoMCT is very good at fueling your brain and keeping it focused and alert, as well as supporting your weight management and boosting your immune system. All of these things are vital if you want to live a healthy life. Another trick that you can do is to eat as much of a colored variety of fruits and vegetables as you possibly can. The bigger the array, the more selection of goodness you are making available to your body.

Keep yourself in shape:

If you have noticed that you’ve gained some extra pounds and you aren’t happy about it, then it’s simple – do something about it. One of the biggest things to battle is laziness. We all suffer from it at one time or another, and finding the motivation to fight it can be very difficult. But, this is where you need to start being strict with yourself. If you expect to see a difference, then you need to put in the work. There are plenty of great exercises out there that you can do that are easy, and don’t necessarily require you to go to the gym. If you like the water, then swimming is a great workout, especially if you are a little heavier, because water makes you weightless, as opposed to if you were running. This is why it is so great for practicing mobility without the worry of straining yourself or causing an injury. Then as soon as you feel ready to push further – add some weights to the mix for added resistance.

Support one another:

Us girls need to stick together, not hate on one another. So spread the love and all of that positive energy that you know you have within you. Go out with your girlfriends, shop together, and give each other some tips to update your style a little. Let’s face it, shopping is a lot more fun when it’s done with your besties. Make a whole day of it and put on a fashion show with tons of different looks that you have all picked out. You may learn a lot about yourself that you would have never known if you hadn’t have tried on that weird frilly dress that looked gross on the hanger, but ends up making you look like a true woman. Then, after your long shopping spree, you can hit the fancy restaurant in your just-bought outfit and enjoy your new found confidence thanks to the awesome company you have around you.

Now, of course, you can’t expect things to miraculously change overnight. But with a little bit of patience and persistence, you will have a brighter outlook on yourself – and for good reason!

Confidence Boosting Secrets You Can’t Deny

Confidence Boosting Secrets You Can’t Deny

If you are looking to improve the way that you think about yourself, it is a good idea to be aware of the many options there are available for you to do just that. The more that you know about how to boost your confidence, the more likely it is that you will be able to maintain a real sense of it for longer. In this article, we are going to look at some of the secrets to boosting your confidence, which you can’t deny are powerful. Give all of these a go if you want to feel as confident in yourself as possible. You might be surprised at the power that these methods really do hold:

Improve Your Appearance:

People often get confused or upset about the subject of improving your appearance. The fact is, that you don’t need to try and make yourself fit into a typical beauty standard in order to be confident or happy. It’s not about looking in such a way that society wants you to look, or even about trying to attract the opposite sex. It’s all about looking the way that you personally want to look, despite what others might think. For some people, the only thing they want is a breast augmentation. For others, all that is required is to dress differently or slim down a little. Whatever your own idea of beautiful is, follow it with your heart and it will lead you to a place of better self-acceptance in no time.

Go Outside Of Your Comfort Zone:

Probably the single most powerful way to build your confidence is to engage in acts which you find difficult or scary to engage in. In other words, you generally need to go outside of your comfort zone regularly if you are to try and feel as confident in yourself as you would like to. This can be done in a variety of ways. It might be a case of trying to complete a new kind of project – or maybe you just want to get involved in a new sport that you haven’t tried before. Whatever it might be, trying new things and becoming generally more adept at them will make you feel like you can do anything – which is absolutely true. You can.

Smile:

It’s a proven fact that smiling regularly boosts endorphins and helps you to feel better about yourself. If you are struggling with any other confidence-boosting method, then a simple and powerful one could be to just smile and relax. Even if you don’t feel like it, giving a great big grin could sometimes be the best thing to do. What’s more, doing it regularly will help you to change what you think of yourself in a profound way, so it’s definitely something that you should try out. You might be amazed at just how much of a difference it makes – and how fast it happens, too. For that reason alone it is something to consider, regardless of whether you have thought to do it before or not.

In this world, confidence is key and boosting it could be the best thing that you do for yourself.

Pregnancy & Mental Health: Overcoming Your Insecurities

Standard
Pregnancy & Mental Health: Overcoming Your Insecurities

Pregnant women go through a lot of both physical and mental stress, which leads to so many insecurities popping up. People often talk about how your physical health suffers when you’re pregnant, but the mental side of things is rarely discussed in detail. As a result, we want to break the stigma and speak about the common mental insecurities you face while carrying a child. Hopefully, this helps any women out there going through pregnancy and feeling some of the things talked about in this piece. Take a look at all of the insecurities, down below:

I Look Disgusting

You wake up, haul yourself out of bed, and look at yourself in the mirror. One thought pops into your head; I’m disgusting. You feel like you look horrible and have just become so ugly. It makes you unbelievably self-conscious, and you don’t want to be seen in public. As a consequence, you retire to the sofa where you comfort eat all day, which fuels these feelings of insecurity.

Needless to say, this is all a mental issue. In fact, many people think women get more attractive when they’re pregnant, and that they have a special glow to them. There are a few things that you can do to overcome this insecurity, some are in your head, others are more practical.

First, change the clothes you wear so you feel more comfortable and aren’t trying to squeeze into your old jeans and tops. You can actually buy loose-fitting maternity scrubs from various websites, and these are great when you’re pregnant as they don’t really show your figure. So, you don’t see anything bulging, your clothes don’t feel tight, and you’re instantly in a better frame of mind.

Second, you need to think more clearly. Understand that you might not look your best because you had a rough night’s sleep or because you were up with morning sickness. Carrying a child is no walk in the park, it takes its toll on your body. So, there will be natural things that happen, which can make you – temporarily – look a little worse for wear. But, you often find you’ll look and feel a lot better after a nice long shower or bath. Try this every morning, and you’ll overcome this insecurity.

I’m Not Ready To Be A Mother:

This is probably one of the toughest insecurities you face when you’re pregnant. Almost all expecting moms go through a phase where they freak out and think they’re not ready to be a mother. For some, it’s right at the start, when they first find out they’re pregnant. For others, it’s right near the end when it suddenly dawns on you that you could be a mom at any moment. Of course, it can happen at any time in between too, and it may last for weeks, months, days, or minutes.

It’s common to feel this way because you’re entering the unknown. As humans, we mentally recoil whenever we’re faced with something that’s not known to us. It’s like walking into a dark cave, our brain sends out warning signals because we have no idea what lies ahead. If you’re pregnant for the first time, you’ve got no clue what could happen. You have no idea if you can be a mom or even how to be a mom, so it’s normal to get some prenatal jitters.

The only way to overcome this is through reassurance. Reassure yourself that you can be a mom and that you’ll make a great one, at that. Often, having others around you tell you that you can do something will make you think more positively, too. Also, get advice from other moms, read books, resources, and just brush up on your knowledge. This helps you learn what to expect, which prepares you for motherhood and helps banish the nerves. If your anxiety is particularly overwhelming, it is a good idea to look into different options for counseling. Read some online reviews, seek recommendations, and visit websites to learn more about their therapy services. Don’t be afraid to shop around for the right counselor or therapist for you so you can get the best help possible for your situation.

I’m Overweight:

Normally, if you’re insecure about the way you look, you’re also insecure about your weight while pregnant. Now, we’ve decided to separate this insecurity from the first one because they are two different things. Being insecure about the way you look can mean you’re not happy with your hair, face, body; whatever. But, being insecure about your weight means you’re very self-conscious about feeling fat.

It’s dangerous, because feelings like this can often lead to eating disorders. You may refuse to eat food because you think you’re fat, which ultimately starves you and your baby of vital nutrition. The reason most women are insecure about their weight is because of the fact that they look bigger when they’re pregnant. But, this is natural. Another person is growing inside of you, you’re obviously going to look bigger!

You can put your mind at ease by doing some light exercise and trying to follow a healthy diet. At the very least, this will keep you healthy during pregnancy, leading to a healthier birth. On a mental level, the fact that you’re doing exercise and aren’t binge eating will help you come to terms with your extra size being down to the baby and not you being fat.

The mental side of pregnancy doesn’t get discussed much. Hopefully, this has shone a light on how your mental health is affected when you’re carrying a child. Also, we hope it helps you overcome these nagging insecurities if you suffer from them!

Trying Something New

Trying Something New

Hello everyone and happy weekend! Saying that this winter has been below average would be putting it nicely, because it really freaking sucked. But, life goes on, and sometimes you just have to keep pushing through until your next big exciting break happens. To keep myself from going insane, I have been trying to incorporate some new things into my life to keep my mental health in check and to have some fun.

One thing that I love to do is learn new languages. I speak English and pretty above decent French, if I do say so myself. Learning new languages has always been a fun thing for me, rather than a chore. So, to add to the fun, I began teaching myself American Sign Language about two months ago and I’m really enjoying it. I try my best to practice for at least a little bit every day and am proud of the progress that I’ve made. I also like to watch French films and TV shows or movies with sign language in it to keep myself sharp.

The great thing about learning a new language, is that there is always something new that you can learn within the language that you’re practicing. Constantly gaining knowledge helps keep my mind off of some of the bullshit, and it is one of my favorite ways to pass the time. I plan on learning Spanish next because, despite taking it for eight years in grade school, I can’t remember a darn thing and I’d like to have it in my language arsenal.

Another new activity that I have been trying, as per recommendation of my therapist, is yoga and meditation. I have taken yoga classes before and really enjoyed it, and with my therapist pushing it every week, I decided to give it another shot. I found free yoga and meditation classes at one of the local libraries and have had nothing but good experiences so far. And, since I ball on a budget, you can’t beat free!

Although I haven’t been having the best of times in life by any means at the moment, I am proud of myself for getting up and trying to learn something new instead of giving up and doing nothing with my day. I always feel good when I activate my mind and body and now, I just need to remind myself to keep doing it because I know that it works.

What is something new that you would like to try? Are you taking any classes or teaching yourself about a subject that you’re interested in? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

What Does The Future Look Like If You Don’t Tackle Your Health Today?

What Does The Future Look Like If You Don’t Tackle Your Health Today?

None of us are stupid when it comes to health. There’s enough information out there to tell us we should live well today to avoid illness tomorrow. Heck, even without that, this is common sense stuff. You don’t have to be a genius to work out that neglecting your body will catch up with you down the line. Even some of us in our twenties are starting to feel the impact of teenage bad habits catching up. And, this karmic retribution can only get worse. We all know it.

The good news is, it doesn’t have to be like that. If you can really open your eyes to the future that awaits if you don’t change, there’s no chance you’ll carry on this way. This does involve facing up to hard truths. Sometimes, though, the hard realities teach us the most important lessons. So, buckle up for a trip into your future if you carry on ignoring your health:

Confinement: In many ways, the worst thing about neglecting your body is how trapped you’ll be in the future. The worse you treat your body, the less able you’ll be to stay mobile in your later years. If you don’t exercise or use your muscles often, they’ll begin to weaken and waste. And, when that happens, walking for extended periods will become increasingly difficult.

Given that your joints stiffen with ageing anyway, issues like these can leave you unable to leave the house. And, when that happens, you’ll find yourself confined in the worst way. You’ll rely on family or carers to do even simple tasks for you, and no one wants that.

Hours spent in waiting rooms: You may get away with neglecting your health for now, but it isn’t going to last. At some stage, things will start to fail. When that happens, you’ll be spending large portions of your time in waiting rooms for one appointment or another. It’s not unusual for neglectful people to face two or three weekly appointments down the line. And, that’s no way to spend your retirement.

What’s more, your decreased mobility will leave you unable to make your way to appointments. Walking won’t be an option, and neither will driving once your vision and hearing start to fail. As such, you’ll have to rely on taxis or public transport to get you where you need to be. Which means that even a five-minute appointment could take up a large chunk of your day. Is this what you dreamt of when you thought about your golden years?

Costs: The majority of us put money into a pension pot throughout our lives. As we do so, we imagine the blissful years that pension could afford us. Oh, the holidays abroad without a care in the world. Only, if you don’t look after yourself, that money will be tied up before you even receive it. Even if you have insurance, long-term and extreme medical costs can often be hard to come by. When you reach 65, you will be eligible for additions like these Medigap insurance options, which can make things a little easier to afford. But, even these measures cost a monthly sum.

So what can you do to prevent such poor health as you age? You can start with some of the following:

Exercise: You know this was coming, right? Exercise, exercise, exercise. If we say it enough, perhaps you’ll pay attention. Moving your body is the best way to ensure your mobility stays with you into your later years. The less you move, the less chance you’ll be able to down the line.

Of course, we’re thinking about this with the above future in mind. So, that means that you should focus on exercise to strengthen your muscles above all. Focus on gentle exercise techniques, such as yoga. It doesn’t get much better than this for helping to build muscle strength. Even better, you’ll likely find this routine is much easier to get into. With less focus on high-energy sessions, yoga isn’t as awful a concept as some exercises. All you need to do is grab your mat, and get to know your body a little better. Then, you can wave hello to a future of flexibility. Keep it up, and you’ll likely be more flexible in your sixties than ever before!

Eat right: If you eat poorly, your health WILL suffer. This applies in a variety of ways. Eating sugary foods on a regular basis could lead to issues such as diabetes. You’ll definitely fall foul to constant doctor’s visits if you suffer from this. And, the possibilities don’t end there. Eating processed foods which are high in fat can also lead to increased blood pressure and heart disease. Not to mention that excess weight can also cause issues with your mobility. That’s not to say, of course, that you have to eat like a rabbit. Instead, practice moderation and ensure that you’re eating plenty of fresh foods.

Cut bad habits: Habits such as smoking and drinking can cause significant issues for you down the line. As well as increased susceptibility to illnesses, smoking reduces blood circulation. Again, this is a mobility issue, which can even lead to loss of limbs in extreme cases. In which case, you would be even more confined than you would have otherwise. Drinking gets less attention, but this, too, can do damage. We all know alcohol can affect the liver. But, it also poses a risk to healthy brain functioning and leaves you open to some cancers. So, drop the habit before it drops you into the future we’ve spoken about!

Being in the best health possible is important, not just now – but for down the line, as well. If you want a future unlike the one we mentioned above, follow our tips to improve your health today.

Treat Yoself! Burrito Binge Edition

Standard
Treat Yoself! Burrito Binge Edition

Hi! I like to think of myself as a fairly frugal gal. Yes, I like to shop – but I always try to score the best deals and get the most bang for my buck. One way that I try to optimize my savings is by being cautious about getting fast food when I am by myself. I have no problem with going out for drinks or dinner with friends one or two times a month. And I do love to snag a Starbucks drink every now and again. But, I try to keep my “I really could go for Taco Bell after work” trips to a minimum.

But, last month – I was bad! I got Chipotle and Taco Bell at least twice each. I also went to Moe’s, but I got that meal for free thanks to their handy app. Although I freaking LOVE T-Bell, Chipotle, and any food that is burrito related, I do sometimes feel guilty about eating out when there’s plenty of food that I could be eating at home. But, for some reason, I really didn’t seem to care last month.

I’m not going to lie, January was a real shit hole of a month. But, there was just something about answering my cravings and eating a food that I really enjoyed that was soothing. It was like, the world was shitting all over me, but I still took care of myself enough to treat for dinner at Chipotle or grabbing a coffee from Starbucks.

Now, is eating a fast food meal the most healthy way to take good care of yourself? No, of course not. But, damnit, a girl has gotta eat so I figured that I could be a little “bad” in my frugality regime. Treating yourself can be buying a new nail polish color, staying in and reading a good book, or taking a warm bath. In my case, treating myself was eating a massive burrito.

My burrito binge taught me that I can splurge for myself and it’s not going to destroy my bank account. But, it also taught me that, at the end of the day, I am the one in charge of making me feel good, first and foremost. And if making myself feel good means eating a burrito every once in a while, then I guess that that’s just my cross to bare!!

How do you treat yoself? What do you do to self soothe during trying times? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

Help! Feeling Stressed

Standard
Help! Feeling Stressed

Sweaty palms, splitting headaches, loss of appetite, difficulty sleeping at night: all of these are indications of stress. Stress is an invisible yet destructive phenomena that can damage your mental and physical health, without mentioning your relationships in your personal and professional life. When you’re stressed out, you’re not yourself anymore. Not that you turn into the kind of strong and powerful character that the Hulk becomes. You become weaker and more easy to break. Stress is the Kryptonite of Superman. It affects you in ways that can isolate, harm, and limit you in your every day life. That’s precisely why it’s crucial that you don’t approach stress without a plan.

Silence is where anxiety brews:

The more you stress about things, the more it turns into a constant feeling of anxiety. And anxiety is not just a thing that you can brush aside easily. It’s debilitating! So it’s important to develop healthy habits before it eats you alive. You need to learn to talk about it with someone you trust, whether it’s a friend or a therapist – or both. More often than not, being able to open up about what’s going on in your mind is all you need to get back on track and take control again. Additionally, if you work with a therapist, you can discover the benefits of cognitive behavioral therapy, which can help you to develop a healthy response to stress. But ultimately, the easiest way to destroy stress is to get rid of the stressful factor.

Is it a money problem?

If you’re stressed out over financial issues, you need to look for solutions rapidly before it destroys your sanity. For instance, if you’re struggling with loan repayment, you can consider loan refinancing options such as Refinancestudent.loan for student loan repayment or a new mortgage deal. If you’re in debt; it’s time to learn to manage your budget efficiently and find ways of saving money without depriving yourself – in other words, where can you cut down on expenses without putting your health and professional career at risk?

Is it a love problem?

Relationships are difficult to maintain, so it’s natural to feel stressed out when things go wrong. Thankfully, these are problems that can be sorted out through communication and with common effort. But, there are situations where the best thing that you can do is to let go of the relationship. If you have contempt for each other, this could evolve into finger-pointing and resentment that could really push you two apart.

helppp1

^^^ Amen to that!

Is it health related?

When your health is at risk, of course, it’s impossible not to stress out. However, stress weakens your body. According to Healthcoachfx.com, stress consumes a lot of energy which your immune system can’t use to heal your body. As impossible as it sounds, when you’re dealing with serious diseases, you need to learn to relax through meditation and mindful activities to help decrease your stress levels and strengthen your immune system.

Yoga helps, too!

Stress is like a tight embrace of darkness. Don’t let it win. Talk about it and look for a solution to better handle your problems so that you can start feeling better today.

What You Should Know About ASD As A Parent

Standard
What You Should Know About ASD As A Parent

It is crucial that parents have a solid understanding of ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder). The first thing to understand is that many psychologists believe that since it is a spectrum we all exhibit traits of Autism. Whether or not we receive a diagnosis is dependent on how severe or how prominent these traits are. This is just one of the reasons why you should be aware of ASD.

It is also true to say that the condition has become more prevalent in society recently. According to statistics on http://www.autism-society.org, about one percent of people have ASD. This might not seem like a significant level, but at that percentage, it is likely that if your child doesn’t have ASD, then someone in their class does.

Misunderstandings About ASD:

Recently, ASD has been something of a fixation in the entertainment media, and this has led to a great number of misconceptions about the condition being spread around. The Big Bang Theory, The Good Doctor, Sherlock, and The A Word all have representations of ASD in them. However, they also do not show the full picture. The problem with Autism in the media is that it tends to latch onto the genius intellect trait and makes it seem more common than it actually is. The genius level of intellect displayed in the media is incredibly rare, and most people with Autism have average levels of intelligence.

As well as this, some people believe that certain traits of Autism must be present in every individual with the condition. This is perhaps due to the triad of impairments, which includes social difficulties. Today, there are many people with a diagnosis who can socialize on their own terms.

Causes And Cures:

There is a lot of information about potential causes of Autism. One of the most common beliefs is that Autism can be caused by child vaccinations. This idea is based on one research study that has now been discredited publicly and yet the idea still lingers today, perhaps due to the fact that some celebrities promote the notion. However, this does not change the fact that there is no scientific evidence and actually, we still don’t know what causes it.

Many people also often assume that Autism cannot be treated. But, there are case studies and research into a variety of different treatments including the use of CBD. Available on https://thoughtcloud.net and similar sites, CBD is believed to be beneficial for children with Autism and, while it cannot ‘cure’ the condition, it is believed to help the child cope. Your child’s doctor will also be able to give you recommendations for specialists or autism services in the field too. It is so important to have a doctor that you like and trust for your child’s care. To begin finding the right doctor to fit your needs, simply enter a search for “hawaii pediatrics” (or your local area) and be sure who you choose comes well recommended.

Development And Growth

Perhaps the most damaging misconception about Autism is that people with the condition are unfeeling, and lack even basic human emotion like empathy. A joke in a recent episode of The Big Bang Theory showed the character, Sheldon Cooper, believing that he invented the concept of empathy after apparently feeling it for the first time. However, people with Autism can feel, do have emotion, and while they can have difficulty understanding certain human emotions like empathy they do learn, often at a young age. In fact, with support and help, an individual with ASD can get through childhood and function as a completely independent adult. There’s more info on how to help kids become independent on https://lifewithlilred.com, particularly if they lean towards the high-functioning end of the spectrum. You can learn more about the high and low end on https://www.verywell.com.

We hope you see now why it’s important for parents to understand ASD and that you should, perhaps complete some research yourself.

Getting Healthier By Playing Sports

Surely everyone wants to be healthier. Or maybe, you’re growing tired of looking at your stomach and thinking that it resembles a big lump of strawberry jelly. Either way, it doesn’t matter whether you want to lose weight or whether you just want to try and be healthier, because sports are a brilliant way for you to do both:

Focusing the mind and body:

The best benefit that you get when you play sports is that it can boost your level of physical fitness. It can also help your mind to stay much healthier, as well. Exercise helps to keep the mind sharp and it can even help you to feel more connected to the body in general. If you don’t quite know which sport is right for you, why not consider joining the FCB Canada soccer academy? This is one of the best ways for you to stay fit while also meeting plenty of new friends.

Future success:

Participating in sports can actually help you with your work and your school life. Sports can show you that if you practice something for long enough, then there is a high chance that you will go on to succeed, and this is a brilliant way for you to see the world differently. Sports can also be an outlet for any stress that you are experiencing right now, as well, and by letting go of this stress, you can then begin to focus more on the job that you do and the situation at hand. Of course, if you have never participated in a sport before, then there has never been a better time to start and you may even find that there are plenty of starter courses available for you to look at. This could include beginner football classes, hockey lessons, and more.

If you are worried about taking part in a sport where everyone is better than you, then this is one of the best ways for you to put an end to that. If you are shy, anxious, or unconfident, then sports can really help to bring you out of your shell. You can even play with your family, and the benefits are great and truly endless!

teamm

Swishhhh!

A better social life:

A lot of sports require you to work either as part of a team or as a unit. Even sports that have individual scores, such as running, still have some elements of teamwork involved. For example, if you were to travel to another city, then you may need to car-share or even train with one another. When you are a member of a team, you can then go on to develop higher cooperation skills, as well. By having these skills, you’ll have more focus, commitment, and dedication which can help you out a lot when it comes to your relationships and work life.

Tennis is an excellent example of a sport that involves a social aspect whether you are playing doubles, a pick up game at the park, or working with a coach. There are countless community parks that offer tennis courts so take advantage of them! You might want to take a few lessons beforehand so simply enter a search for “find tennis lessons in Houston” (or your local area) to get started. Then you can report back and tell me how scoring in tennis actually works!

Sports are not only great for getting in shape, but they are wonderful for your mental health. Gather your friends, start a team, and watch as your mind and body reap the benefits.

Therapy Update (Since You Asked!)

Hellooo! So I’ve gotten quite a few requests for a follow up post about my journey that I started a month or so ago when I chose to go back to therapy. So, here it is! I’ll tell you what, the first few weeks were hard with a capital H-A-R-D. I forgot about the whole therapy process of feeling like utter shit after unearthing painful memories. So, for about three or so weeks, I was a hot mess. I was extremely depressed, mentally and physically exhausted, and retreating to old not so good habits.

But then, the hour long appointments began getting easier and I was even starting to enjoy going to them. First of all, I freaking love my therapist. She is so kind and easy to talk to AND she laughs at all of my bad jokes, which is a wonderful added bonus. On our first session together, she taught me about the importance of deep breathing when I am feeling stressed, upset, or overwhelmed and I employ that skill often now. It’s crazy how something that we don’t even think about, like breathing, can make you feel so much better and clear headed once you take a moment to pause and take a good, deep breath.

My therapist has also helped me with changing my thought patterns, because I tend to have an “it’s the end of the world” mind frame when something goes wrong, so we have worked on addressing that. It’s so nice to have a safe place to go and express my feelings and troubles every week with no judgement or backlash. I look forward to my therapy sessions and am proud of the progress that I have made thus far.

How do you do something good for your mental health? How do you calm yourself when you are upset? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah
