Why We’re Becoming A Healthier Society

Why We’re Becoming A Healthier Society

We may be in the middle of the coronavirus problem, but there’s much to be hopeful for. We’re the healthiest society that the world has ever seen, and by a long way. Indeed, there have been many great advances made in the past hundred years, to the point where many of the problems that plagued past generations are beginning to become a thing of the past. For instance, we’ve made a lot of progress when it comes to child mortality, which is the lowest it has ever been, and people are living longer (and better) too. So what’s driven these changes? We take a look at a few reasons why we’re becoming healthier below:

What’s Good For You:

Humans advance because we’re able to build on the knowledge of the generation that has come before us. If we all had to start from scratch, we’d be in much worse shape! Today, we know a lot of things we need to do in order to be at our best. If you can eat fresh fruit and vegetables, get your dose of minerals and vitamins, and work up a sweat, then you’ll be in a good position, health-wise. We can all be healthiest just by having the right things be a part of our lives.

What To Avoid:

And then there’s the matter of what to avoid. You’ve got to feel sorry for people who were subjected to the smoking adverts of the 1940s and ’50s; they had no idea just what a negative impact cigarettes would have on their health. Fortunately, now we do. Research has told us the things that we should avoid if we want to be our healthiest selves. For example, we know that we shouldn’t eat too much junk food, drink alcohol, or smoke cigarettes.

Medical Advances:

Of course, even if people did all of the things they were supposed to, there’s always a chance of falling ill. We’ve made great advances in this area, too, so that illness and conditions that were previously hard to treat have become much more manageable. There has been particular progress made in the fields of cancer treatment, diabetes management, heart issues, and other serious conditions. While these things still pose a threat to the general well being of society, there are many reasons why there’s cause to be optimistic.

Focus on the Mind:

We’ve also made progress because we know that the physical and mental aspects of our body aren’t separate; they’re intertwined. Whereas in the olden days, medicine focused totally on the physical well being of the patient, today we’re paying more attention to the mental side of things. We know more about talking therapies, prescriptions, and a number of other treatment paths that can get the best results for people with mental health issues. As Shape says, we are also finding out more about the advantages of supplements like CBD. We’re able to guide people who are suffering from depression and other mental health issues in the right direction.

Clean Standards:

Finally, perhaps the biggest reason why we’re becoming healthier is that we have cleaner standards. This has been the thing that has curbed coronavirus more than anything else. We take it for granted, but there were many periods in history where people didn’t wash their hands.

Despite things being scary right now, there are still many positive changes that have been made to healthcare to be proud of.

Are Your Drains Healthy? Here Are The Signs They’re Not!

Are Your Drains Healthy? Here Are The Signs They’re Not!

If there is one thing that can cause upset for your property, it’s drain issues. There are a lot of jobs around the house that you can do yourself, from fixing a busted fuse to changing a light bulb. However, there are just some jobs that require a little help from the professionals.

Plumbing and drain issues are some of the worst for a house. They cause a level of disruption that you can’t fathom until it happens to you! It’s hard enough to figure out what the problem might be, but fixing it? That’s a whole other ball game! If you need sewer line repair, you need to call the professionals. If you need to replace the drains, that’s another job you can’t do alone.

So, you need to know the signs of the drains being unhealthy, and we’ve got a list of the most common signs for you below:

Stinky Pipes:

Everyone notices the smell of a dead drain. The food rot, the rotting plants – they don’t smell great! Dirty water that stagnates has a foul odor, and you will notice it right away. The worst thing is that the smell will make its way through the house – not what you want! This is where you want to have your drains snaked and thoroughly cleaned by an expert right away. You can click now to schedule an appointment with a drain engineer for some advice or professional help if you feel that one of drains needs it. It’s also so important to dispose of the grease and fat from your pans properly. Don’t throw old grease down the drain – it’ll stink!

Slow Toilet Drainage:

We’ve all been there at least once: we flush the toilet, and we watch the water rise up before it drains. Except for this time, the water level isn’t changing, and nothing is flushing…oops! The worst is when this happens in someone else’s house! However, a plunger should work here, and that will help the waste to drain correctly. If you’re still having issues, then that’s when you call your Plumber!

Gurgling Drains:

Your drains should never be singing to you. Pipes and fixtures are designed to be silent, so you need to think about what could be causing the bubbles. Dirt and grease build-up is one reason, but you really need the water to drain down slowly. Clean drains don’t speak, and you need to ask the professionals at Ansell Drainage (or a similar company in your local area) to use a long wire to let go of all the built-up muck.

Dreadful Damp:

A drain or pipe that has collapsed or cracked can cause damp within your property. The damage that the drain causes will disrupt the flowing water, causing damp in the walls of the home. So, you need to avoid penetrating wet rot and learn to spot the damp signs in the house. When you notice it, try to figure out the source of the wet and call in the professionals to help. The last thing that you want is to deal with substantial damp patches all over the house.

Drains are supposed to be quiet, clean, and smell nice. If yours are playing up, call in the right professionals, and don’t wait around!

3 Things To Check Before Selling Your Home

3 Things To Check Before Selling Your Home

It’s time to move on, and you want to find somewhere new to live. Obviously, there are lots of different elements of selling a home, and plenty of things to think about. Perhaps one of the most pressing questions is weighing on your mind – how can I sell my house quickly? Preparation, renovation, and maintenance is the key as it can make your property more appealing to potential buyers. Let’s not waste time looking at the obvious things and instead turn your attention to some of the more hidden elements of your home that need checking presale. It really can make a difference! Here are a few things you should definitely spend some extra time looking at and preparing before selling your house:

Furnace:

Every home has a furnace, but how old is yours? If it’s over ten years old – which it might be, then it’s no longer working at peak efficiency. In fact, it will probably only be working at 60%, meaning you lose 40% of the energy created. Do you think this is an attractive prospect for buyers? Here’s a hint, it’s not! So, you may need to find a furnace repair service to touch this bad boy up before you sell your home. It’ll mean you can list your house for a higher value, and you will also have fewer complaints from any prospective buyers.

Windows:

Okay, you’re not technically looking at the windows themselves, but more the sealant around the edges of your windows. This can peel away over time and look quite bad. It also likely leads to drafts of air coming through, which is not good for the energy efficiency of your home. If a viewer sees your nasty window sealant, then they may be put off. Or, they will hit you with a low bid as they argue they’ll probably need to replace the windows. You can avoid this by replacing the sealant to give your windows a more modern look. There’s nothing for buyers to worry about and you make your home look more appealing.

Grout:

For those that don’t know, grout is the little space between tiles. Why does this need checking? One word; mold. Grout is very prone to turning horrible and black with mold. This usually only happens in wall tiles in your bathroom or kitchen. Water can be trapped and absorbed into the grout, which then leads to mold formations. It’s incredibly off-putting and will lower the value of your home if people see it. So, before selling your house, make sure you check the grout between your tiles and clean them if required. Hopefully, you don’t need to do anything as cleaning mold from grout is a tough task.

You should already be carrying out lots of different checks and preparations throughout your home. The three things on this list are things that a lot of you probably wouldn’t think about checking. So, consider them secret ways to boost your sale price! Unless your home is either relatively new or in phenomenal condition, you’ll likely see issues with these things and need to fix them before selling.

5 Best Ways To Look After Your Skin

The sad truth is that many people aren’t looking after their skin as much as they should. Because of that fact, more folks are complaining of things like skin irritations, sunburn, and even getting strange new marks that they’ve never had before. If you’re guilty of paying too little attention to your skin, read on and find out how you can begin improving:

Get enough sleep each night:

If you’re something of a night owl, now’s the time to change your habits. Thousands of websites explain why you should get at least six to eight hours of uninterrupted good-quality sleep.

What you may not know is that sleeping well each night does wonders for your skin, hence the term ‘beauty sleep’! When you go to sleep, your body does a lot of housekeeping behind the scenes. One of its tasks is to help your skin cells and tissue get rejuvenated while you rest.

Get questionable skin moles and marks checked:

It’s not uncommon for people to get small dark circles appearing in random parts of their body as they age. But, what if you have recently noticed a large patch of dark skin appear on your body? In such cases, you need to get it checked out by a general practice medical center like CBD Medical. That’s because moles that are large and suddenly appear or perhaps change shape or bleed could be a precursor to skin cancer.

3. Drink plenty of water each day:

One of the things that many people are guilty of each day is not drinking enough water. It’s no secret that water is one of the things vital to our well being and helps to keep our bodies functioning as they should.

If you are often dehydrated during the day, one thing you’ll notice is that your skin begins to feel rough and may even crack. With that in mind, be sure to drink several glasses of water each day. After all, water is free and is a natural skin moisturizer.

4. Use a non-toxic face cleanser each day:

If you live in a busy city or even in the suburbs, it’s likely your face will attract all kinds of dirt and pollutants from the air around you. Having a bath or shower each day will help to get rid of some of those pollutants. But, you should also add in a non-toxic face cleansing session to your daily routine.

5. Use the right level of suntan lotion protection:

Lastly, be sure to apply the right level of suntan lotion protection to your skin. Doing so will prevent your skin from getting cooked by the sun and making you resemble a lobster! Plus, it will substantially lower the risk of developing conditions like skin cancer.

Begin taking better care of your skin today with the tips above!

Blart Side Of The Mall

Blart Side Of The Mall

Hi! Once upon a time, I was SO close to falling asleep when my boyfriend shook me out of my tired haze to inform me of something he deemed highly important. So, can you imagine my annoyance when he told me that Paul Blart Mall Cop 2 syncs up perfectly to Pink Floyd’s album “Dark Side Of The Moon”?! Then, he showed me an example clip in the style of Wizard Of Oz syncing up to the album but with Paul Blart and my annoyance dissipated immediately:

^^^ And, as always, I have no rights to these songs or videos!

If you watched any of the example clip, you will see that the legend is true and Paul Blart Mall Cop 2 and Dark Side Of The Moon go together like peanut butter and jelly. Within a week, my boyfriend and I watched the album synced up to the movie in its entirety and I don’t think I have ever laughed so hard in my life. In fact, I spent half of the time wiping the tears from my eyes from the constant laugh attack that the experience gave me.

So, I have decided to share the wealth. Not only am I informing all of you that it’s hilarious but I am also sharing this discovery with the vinyl record club that I take one of my clients to. As luck would have it, I found a Mall Cop collection in the discount DVD bin at Walmart for three dollars and seventy-four cents (lol) and I realized that this had to be my choice for when I bring in my album.

Is it stupid? Abso-freaking-lutely. Is it one of my favorite things in the world? Abso-freaking-lutely. I am so excited to introduce my friends at record club to this spectacle and, even if no one appreciates it as much as I do, at least they get to hear Dark Side Of The Moon, right? 😉

What other movies does Dark Side Of The Moon sync up to? What is something stupid that you find hilarious? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

Creating A Business From Home

Creating A Business From Home

Being able to create a business from home is something we’d all probably aspire to do if we had the opportunity. However, it’s more possible now than ever to create a business from scratch and run it from your own home. You just need to have the knowledge and drive to be able to do it. Here are some tips if you want to do just that:

Have An Investment Budget:

An investment budget is something any business will need to some degree, even if you’re going to be working from home. When you’re creating a business from scratch, there are certain things that are going to need to be paid for. From the furniture and equipment you’ll need to access the internet and to do your communications to the stock you’ll need to create in order to package and send out products that you might be selling online.

There’s a lot to think about, regardless of what you do as a business, so the best place to start is to create an investment budget. Start with what you need in terms of a ballpark figure and then begin saving to achieve that amount.

Create Your Business Plan:

When creating a business plan, you want to make sure that everything has been thought of because it all matters in making sure you have everything laid out in preparation for your business to begin. Think of any objectives and goals you’d like to achieve over the first quarter of your business and don’t be afraid to set some long-term goals because everyone who starts a business has hopes of it lasting for more than just a few months. It’ll hopefully also give you the motivation you need to push through the hard times that you might endure.

As you create your business plan, think of what is important to its structure to maximize success. This includes outweighing the pros and cons of different options like exploring some disadvantages of structuring your business as an S corp or if you want to incorporate work from home hours to your model. The business plan is your roadmap to a thriving business so create it carefully.

Start Seeking Out Suppliers:

Depending on your business, you might have items that you wish to sell, and so it’s good to look into suppliers that are suitable for what you’re after. Whether it’s tumblers in bulk that you’re after or a wholesale provider who can offer clothing that you might be planning on printing on. There are lots of places out there to take advantage of so think about all of the different options that are available before making a selection.

Prepare To Work Hard:

It’s important to know that it’s going to be a lot of hard work that goes into running your own business. Some days will go great, some days will be bad, and others will be worse. It’s important to take the highs with the lows and to enjoy the experiences and challenges that come with owning a business from home.

When creating a business, it’s not something that’s easy, otherwise, everyone would be doing it. Stay focused, believe in yourself, trust your instincts, and work hard.

Don’t Be That Dog Owner

Standard
Don’t Be That Dog Owner

If you pay attention to the news of animal-loving organizations such as The Dodo or your local animal shelter, you’re probably aware that some dogs have a hard time with terrible owners. Abandoned, malnourished, chained all day long in the garden, this is not what a dog’s life should be about. Thankfully, the world is full of caring people who go the extra length to bring joy and love into the lives of these dogs.

As a dog lover, you know that you’ll never be the owner who neglects their pup. You love dogs, and that’s why yours gets plenty of food, a warm shelter, and regular walks. But, before you praise yourself for being the best dog owner in the country, you might want to check that you are, indeed, doing everything right. Sometimes, when we try to do the right thing, we end up doing our pets more harm than good. Don’t be the dog owner who unknowingly puts their pet at risk.

Don’t let your dog be depressed:

You’ve got long days at work. So, to make sure your beloved Rex doesn’t feel bored or lonely, you’ve bought him a few toys. Here’s the thing, though. Your dog, just like you, needs to socialize to be happy. If you don’t take the time to play with your dog in the evening or to let him play with other dogs, you may be endangering Rex’s mental health. Did you know that dogs that don’t receive enough attention can get depressed? So, also consider how you could fulfill your dog’s social needs day after day. We get it: After a long and hectic day, all you want is to sit on the sofa and chill. But spending quality time with Rex can go a long way!

Don’t leave your dog unprotected:

Rex doesn’t like fences. He can’t see what’s going on.

You may not want to block your dog’s view, but you can’t leave Rex in an open garden. Your pup is likely to run away. If you don’t want to spend countless hours every day looking for your dog, you need to put fences up. Additionally, running into a foreign neighborhood could confuse or scare your pet. Cities are loud and filled with terrifying vehicles. A panicked dog could run amok, get injured, or even hurt someone. You don’t need your neighbor to complain about getting bitten by a dog, especially when it’s yours. Scared dogs can become aggressive because they believe they are under attack.

It’s never just a little snack:

Sharing your snacks with your dog is the most natural thing. As a pet owner, you want to let your dog have something nice too. However, your sweet attention may be affecting your pet’s health. Treats should not become a symbol of your love. Too many dog owners are facilitating obesity when they only hope to be kind to their pups. Make sure to control portion sizes and to choose healthy snack options.

Dog lovers are often guilty of putting their pets at risk without noticing it. Because you want the best for your pup, you can make the wrong decisions with dramatic consequences. The golden rule, when you are responsible for your pet’s health, is to ask yourself how your choices affect Rex’s mental and physical well being.

Essentials For Your Home Recording Studio

Standard
Essentials For Your Home Recording Studio

Music has been a big part of cultures around the world for centuries, but it seems like independent and aspiring music producers have become more prevalent in recent decades. Thanks to innovations in technology and music-making equipment, at-home production is more accessible than ever before.

Even if you don’t have room for a full studio in your home, there are some fantastic instruments and music-making tools out there that don’t take up a lot of space. One of these is the Alesis v25, which is a 25-key MIDI keyboard with drum pads. Despite not being as popular as other 25-key MIDI keyboards out there, Alesis v25 reviews make it sound like an excellent choice for producing music and beats at home. It’s also one of the most affordable at $179 retail.

Top Keyboard for Recording Music at Home:

The Alesis V25 is a very intuitive and powerful MIDI keyboard for at-home music production. It has 25 keys, eight drum pads, and four rotary knobs to expand the melodic range and chords you can produce with the keyboard. You can even play bass lines.

  • Full-sized, semi-weighted keys prevent cramping in hands and fingers
  • Velocity-sensitive drum pads for adding beat patterns
  • Responsive rotary knobs to fine tune effects
  • Plug-and-play technology for a simple USB connection and digital audio workstation (DAW) detection
  • Compact, portable, and lightweight (5.4 pounds)

Once you have the ideal keyboard for making music, it’s time to stock up on some other home recording equipment to mix, edit, and refine your work.

Essential Audio Recording Equipment:

Your home recording studio or station should include some critical pieces of equipment, but you don’t need to pay an arm and a leg for it. The list of essentials is quite short and you can find proper quality equipment for affordable prices both online and in stores like Best Buy and even Walmart. The leading necessary audio recording equipment you should have includes:

Microphone:

Home music production cannot be achieved successfully without a microphone and long-lasting mic cables. For home recording, cardioid microphones are best because they help reject any sound coming from behind you. While you can easily spend over $1,000 on a quality condenser microphone and stand, there are several excellent options for $300 or less.

Mic Stand:

Be sure to get a quality mic stand as well! You don’t want to spend hundreds of dollars on a high-quality microphone, only to knock it over and ruin it. There are excellent mic stand options for any budget, and you can probably spend less than $50.

Headphones:

Your smartphone earbuds won’t do for home recording, so be sure to invest in a good pair of over-the-ear headphones for mixing and monitoring when you’re recording. Before you buy, compare the specs based on your needs. Look into the headphones’ drivers, impedance, and sensitivity.

Audio Interface:

A USB audio interface is necessary to connect your headphones, microphone, and speakers to your computer for editing and mixing sounds. You can probably find what you need for less than $200, depending on the kind of system and types of features you require.

Pop Filter or Shield:

An inexpensive and essential piece of equipment for any home recording studio is a pop filter or pop shield, especially if you’re recording vocals. Pop filters not only protect your mic from vocalists’ spit, but they also block “plosives” and maintain the quality of your vocals. You can probably find a quality pop shield on Amazon for less than $30.

Speakers:

Decent studio speakers or monitors are a must for any home recording studio. Without them, you may find that your work sounds very different (and less-than-desired) when played outside of your studio headphones. There are countless different speakers to choose from, but a few things to consider are amplification, placement in your studio, size, listening distance, and connection to your audio editing equipment. For a direct link to your computer or audio interface, a USB connection will do, but for interfaces with balanced outputs, you’ll want a balanced XLR or jack input.

Acoustic Room Treatments:

When recording from a room or space in your home, you’ll need to think about more than just any sounds from the outside. The reverb of sounds within the recording area can affect the audio as well, so you will need to install acoustic panels and diffusers on the walls to create an accurate acoustic environment and make your sound better. You can make your own panels and DIY bass traps for a fraction of the cost of acoustic treatments, which can get pretty pricey.

DAW (Digital Audio Workstation):

A DAW (Digital Audio Workstation) is the program that you will be recording and arranging your music in. This is one of the most important pieces of equipment you’ll need for your home studio. Luckily, there are many affordable, and even many free DAWS available for musicians on a budget.

Use the tips above, start recording your tunes, and maybe you’ll catch your big break!
