FaceTime Fun!

Whatupppp. So I recently discovered after over a year of having my iPod fifth generation that I can FaceTime on there! Better late than never, right? My FaceTime experience began when my best friend/soul mate, Kate needed a chat and I couldn’t come over to her place for some reason or another. After about fifteen minutes of technical difficulties, we finally figured FaceTime out and had a lovely Skype-like convo. My favorite FaceTime story though has to do with my darling and dear friend Tyler, who’s in the army and lives in California. Tyler is my Middle Aged Monday cocaptain, my confidant, and someone who I hold very close to my heart. (You can read all about Tyler in my posts “Middle Aged Monday” and “My Friend, Tyler”). I haven’t seen Tyler in over half a year since he began basic training in October and then left for California in January. Before FaceTime (B.F.), we would text and write letters to each other. But needless to say – I still missed him terribly! Thanks to Kate helping me discover that I had the capability to FaceTime on my iPod, I asked Tyler if he had the technology to video chat with me in Cali, and luckily he did! We scheduled a FaceTime date with each other, and my heart was seriously pounding like a drum while I waited for the call to go through – I haven’t seen Tyler face to face in so long and I was SO excited! When we finally got connected with each other and I could see his goofy self, I legit could have cried. Being able to hear him and see him talk was so special to me – texting and letter writing are great, but there’s really nothing like hearing someone’s voice. During our first FaceTime it was mainly just freaking out over actually seeing each other! We decided to make our video chats a weekly thing, so once a week we FaceTime for a half hour or longer – as long as it takes to tell each other all of the news we have from the previous week! Being able to talk to Tyler face to face – or phone to iPod I should say, seriously never gets old. Every time our FaceTime call connects through and I see his face appear on my screen it still makes me feel the way I felt during our first video chat with each other – happy, happy, happy! My favorite thing about our FaceTime talks is being able to laugh with him. I never realized how much I missed his laugh until I got to hear it again! We talk about serious stuff, but a hefty portion of our chats are usually devoted to reminiscing on old inside jokes and making references to our favorite movies that we would watch together during our Middle Aged Monday hang outs. I never knew that something as simple as a video chat could bring me so much joy, but here we are a month later and I still look forward to our talks every week and I cherish every minute of them! I love my Tyler so much and I can’t wait to see him hopefully in the near future!

^^^ Ahhh, these were the last pictures we took together on our final hang out before Tyler left for basic training! So cute!

I hope all of you are having a fabulous day! Who is someone that you love to FaceTime or Skype with? Do you have someone who’s far away from you that you’re missing? I wanna hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

Sorry, Sis ;)

Sorry, Sis ;)

During my weekend trip to Wisconsin, I may or may not have played a stupidly funny prank on my beloved sister, Kristen. And for that, I am publicly apologizing. Kristen drove the first two or so hours home from Wisconsin on Sunday, and during that time I was manning her phone to reply to the texts that she received. She’s been talking to a new guy recently, and it was my responsibility to type everything out to him that she dictated to me….Bad idea on her part. When he asked what Kristen was up to, my sister told me to text him “driving home! yay!” and unfortunately I heard “driving home! gay!” When I heard “gay” I thought to myself “hmm, that’s an odd way to describe driving home” so I asked her to repeat it three times and every single time, I heard “gay” so into the text it went. To spruce the message up even more I also added “and I really have to go to the bathroom :((((” to the message and hit Send. I straight up told Kristen that I added her bathroom issue to the text (which was more like my bathroom issue, because I really had to go!), and she didn’t believe me! Smh. When we stopped for food and she looked through her phone, she saw the text I sent that she thought I was kidding about, and got a bit upset at Lil Red. Once we got back on the road again, my mom took over driving so Kristen got back into the backseat with me. She was still pissed at me, even though I told her what I texted him, so after snacking on hella Flamin Hot Cheeto’s, I decided to write her a story on my iPod to make her laugh and to pass the time. I emailed myself the story, and I am now going to share it with you guys:

A short story of a very naughty thing:

Once upon a time there were two sisters, named Kristen and Sarah, respectively. During their journey home from a weekend adventure in America’s cheese land, the younger of the girls, Sarah did a very naughty thing. While the elder, Kristen drove the whip through the Chicago traffic, she received a text message from a potential love interest. For the fear of our personal safety, I manned her phone so I could text the messages to the young man as dictated by Kristen. When mister man asked what Kristen was up to, the reply I texted was not necessarily the same as what was said to me. Instead of texting “driving home, yay!” I accidentally typed “driving home. Gay. And I have to go to the bathroom :(((” in my defense, when she said “yay” it sounded a lot like “gay” and I for one, really had to go potty. I told Kristen what I had texted and she thought I was kidding. But guess what…I wasn’t. When Kristen saw what I texted she was most upset, and I feared for my life. After her round of driving, Kristen returned to the back seat of the car with me, and I tried my best to win her friendship back and humbly apologize for my wrong doings. We bonded over flaming hot Cheeto residue and she delivered one swift punch to my arm. And now I think we are friends again. The end.

^^^ Needless to say, Kristen was dying of laughter as she read my short story and we are now most definitely friends again! Sorry for being an asshole, sis! (Even though it was still kinda funny) I love you! 😉

IMG_3365[1]IMG_3381[1]IMG_3427[1]

^^^ SHE’S SO CUTE!!!!

Hahahahaha. Kristen and I both found the situation insanely funny after she punched me, so I thought it would be fun to share this goofy story with all of you! What was the silliest thing you did to pass the time during a long trip? Do you have a story of a text message gone wrong that trumps mine? I wanna hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

Hello, hello everyone! I have returned safe and sound to Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio after my weekend getaway to Madison, Wisconsin – and let me just say…it’s SO good to be back! My brother, Peter graduated this weekend from the University of Wisconsin with a PhD in Chemical Engineering (so proud!), so my family packed up the car and made the nine hour trip up to Madison for the ceremony. I’m going to post a few pictures tonight to give you a little sneak peak for the usual Monday Update tomorrow, where I’ll discuss the trip in detail! Hiiiii everyone and happy Thursday! I just wanted to let you guys know that I’ll be out of office starting early tomorrow morning until Sunday night. My brother is graduating tomorrow with a PhD in chemical engineering, so we’re packing up the family car and heading to Wisconsin for the ceremony and for some sweet, sweet hanging! Hopefully the motel we’re staying in has WiFi, because I’ll have my iPod on me so I’ll try to check in with some short little posts once we return for bed. If not, you can expect to hear from me either late on Sunday or on Monday for the usual Monday Update segment! I’m seriously so excited to see my brother!!! I’m not too excited about the nine hour drive to Wisconsin, but it will be so worth it! I haven’t seen my big bro since the beginning of January, so it’s sure to be a beautiful reunion. :))))

^^^ This basically sums up how I’m feeling right now!

So yes, I will be on a little vaca from lifewithlilred for the weekend, but make sure you check back in with me upon my return for the latest and greatest! Send me some good vibes so I don’t get super annoyed with my family during the car ride! Are any of you taking a road trip soon? Where are you heading off to? May Music Obsessions

May Music Obsessions

Whatsup guys! I haven’t done a music post in a while, so I figured now would be the perfect time to let all of you know what I’ve been jamming out to this past month! Get comfy, kick up your feet, and turn your speakers up while I discuss some new tried and true favorites:

RAC ft. Matthew Koma: Cheap Sunglasses – Ohhhh yes indeed, I love this song. This was on our playlist when I worked at PacSun, and to be honest I kind of forgot about it until I heard it playing at Express a few months ago. After I got reunited with RAC this fun little indie pop ditty has become one of my favorites. Ever since I rediscovered this song, it became the track that I would start my drives to Cleveland for school with. It’s so catchy it hurts, and I’ve had played it on repeat more times than I can count – which I’m so okay with!

The Used: Take It Away – I’ve always been a really big fan of this song, but after seeing The Used perform this in concert a few weeks ago (which you can read all about in my article “The Used Concert!!!”), my love for it rekindled tenfold. This song is so fucking powerful, and I really wish that I could upload the video I have of The Used performing it, but unfortunately it won’t upload on here! You guys should know by now that I’m an emo kid through and through, and I really can’t think of a better emo kid anthem than this song.

A$AP Rocky: Fashion Killa – I have a HUGE crush on A$AP Rocky, and this track in my fucking jam. This is my fly girl theme song, and I love bumpin it in the Little Red Love Machine every chance I get. The beat is amazing, and I like to pretend that this song was written for me…judge me for it. I fall in and out of phases of liking rap, but no matter what I always have a soft spot for A$AP – he’s cute as a button and his flow is insane. MARRY ME!

AWOLNATION: Jailbreak – I’ve mentioned countless times before how much I love AWOLNATION’s sophomore album Run, and I think that this song might be my favorite one on the album. I love the really dark vibe that “Jailbreak” has, which is very similar to everyone’s favorite “Sail” off of Megalithic Symphony. I’ve grown very fond of playing Run in its entirety while driving, and best believe I’m singing along the whole time – but I go especially hard to this song! I’m really hoping that I can see AWOLNATION in concert sooner or later, I feel like they would be SO fun to see live!

Generationals: Ten-Twenty-Ten – I absolutely adore Generationals, and I really like this short and sweet track. It’s a PacSun playlist oldie but goodie that I didn’t even realize I had in my collection until I had my iTunes playing on shuffle a few days ago. Needless to say, I was thrilled when I made this discovery! I’m usually not a fan of watching music videos, but the video for this song is pretty fun – so make sure you check it out! I like this dudes voice a lot too, it’s quirky and smooth, and I really like how it’s a bit higher pitched than most male singers. Big fan!

Grouplove: Chloe – I rediscovered my love for Grouplove a week or so ago, and “Chloe” is probably one of my all time favorites by them. It’s so sweet and catchy, and I always get this image in my head of a bonfire party where everyone’s just sitting around a campfire and singing their little hearts out whenever I hear this song. You know how there’s some songs where you don’t have an obvious reason for liking the song other than the phrase “I just like it”? That’s exactly how I feel about this fun little track.

The Smiths: Bigmouth Strikes Again – I feel like I mention my undying adoration for The Smiths a lot, but that’s okay because they deserve it! All of their songs are a favorite song of mine, but “Bigmouth Strikes Again” is a track that’s closer to the top of my list. The lyrics to this song are SO dark, which is something that I’m always drawn to.

Sweetness, sweetness I was only joking
When I said by rights you should be
Bludgeoned in your bed

^^^ Like what? Haha, at least he was only joking! This song is also why “sweetness” is one of my favorite pet names to call people – which I realized I started doing a lot more after I began playing “Bigmouth” periodically throughout the day!

The New Pornographers: Falling Through Your Clothes – Hands down my favorite New Pornographers song, no questions asked. I could hear this track on repeat all day and I would still love it. Everything about this song just works SO amazingly well, it’s unreal – I love how soft the verses are and then BAM the game changes with the orchestral chorus. I never really made it a priority before to listen to The New Pornographers a lot, but I recently added all of their albums to my collection and it was the most worthwhile thing I’ve done in a long time. They’re slowly but surely becoming one of my favorite bands.

Clap Your Hands Say Yeah: Upon This Tidal Wave Of Young Blood – THERE IS NOTHING LEFT TO FEAR, NOW THAT BIGFOOT IS CAPTURED!!!! Best. Opening. Lyric. EVER. I’ve been on a very big Clap Your Hands Say Yeah kick as of late, and I’m so not mad about it. My older brother saw them in concert a year ago and I’m forever jealous of him for it. The lead singers voice is simply intoxicating and their lyrics are astounding. Enough said.

Metric: Speed The Collapse – I’m a very big fan of Metric, and they’ve really pulled through as a month of May all star for Lil Red. As you guys know, I usually hate female vocalists, but Emily Haines is the exception. I don’t know what it is about her voice, but I can’t get enough of it – AND she’s drop dead gorgeous. Hubba hubba. Shout out to PacSun for exposing me to Metric and all of their glory, because “Speed The Collapse” is a PacTrack if I’ve ever heard one!

So there you have it! My funky time jams for the month of May! Who have you guys been rocking out to lately? What song have you been playing on repeat today? I wanna hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

Clip In Septum Trend – LAME!

Clip In Septum Trend – LAME!

Hey everyone and happy Hump Day! So a few days ago when I was getting the oil changed in the Little Red Love Machine, I read an issue of Vogue in the waiting room to pass the time. As I flipped through the pages of gorgeous photo shoots and glamorous clothing, I came across an article about the growing trend of the “clip in” septum ring. When I saw this article I literally laughed out loud and my first thought was “how lame!” My second thought was “stop being a freaking pansy and just get the piercing done!” I mean seriously? Anything “clip in” is for fifth graders. The full page spread on having a fake septum ring mentioned different celebrities that boast the real thing – Scarlett Johansson and Fka Twigs to name a few. Despite how much I don’t care for the big names in Hollywood, I couldn’t help but feel happy that their fabulous selves weren’t above sitting in a chair at a tattoo shop and having their septum get poked through the old fashioned way. If you can’t handle the piercing process, then don’t bother walking around with fake jewelry up your nose to fool people into thinking you’re a badass! The article discussed how convenient it is to be able to switch out your septum rings with new jewelry whenever you please without having to deal with the healing process of a freshly pierced septum. The author then proceeded to show different clip in pieces that started in the two hundred dollar price range and went up from there. How fucking ridiculous. If you went to the shop I go to in Ohio to get my work done, you could get your septum pierced and repierced FOUR TIMES for the cost of one over priced clip in ring. Fucking shameful. As all of you know I have quite the decorated nose – two studs on each nostril and one septum ring for a grand total of five piercings. I’ve gotten pierced and repierced over thirty times in my lifetime, so when I saw the article in Vogue raving about clip in facial jewelry of course I couldn’t help but laugh. For real, grow some balls and just get the piercing done. Let the piercing heal, and change out your jewelry through the hole that’s been pierced – NOT with a clip on!

septum

^^^ Power to the pierced! Another thing that’s really been bothering me in the fashion magazines that I thumb through on occasion has been the many articles and suggestions on how to rock the “punk” look. In almost every photo shoot, clothing ideas, and advice columns there always seems to be only two things: Black and piercings. PSA: There’s A MILLION different ways to sport a punk look without gothing out at Hot Topic or sticking a clip in ring on your nose or lip. Think 90’s grunge. Think a deep crimson lip, a dope pair of cross earrings, or an over sized shirt with the skinniest skinny jeans humanly possible. There’s no need to go overboard like these ridiculous articles are showing you. All of the clothing they feature look more like costumes, and in all reality NO ONE dresses like that. Not even the most hardcore self proclaimed “punks” in the world. You would think that fashion magazines would be more innovative in their ways of teaching their readers how to put together a punky cool outfit. Unfortunately, every article I’ve ever seen has lacked creativity and has stuck with everyone’s obviously false ideas of a “punk” look by drowning their models in a sea of black and an abundance of fake piercings. SHAMEFUL.

Alright, I had to get that off my chest and boy do I feel better! I hope all of you guys have a fabulous day! How do you feel about the clip in septum trend? What’s your favorite piercing or tattoo that you have? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

Ballin, Shot Callin

Helloooo everyone and happy Tuesday! So remember how I mentioned in an earlier post “Bye Bye Spring Semester!” that I had a really rough time taking my math exam? I was so confident that I didn’t do too hot during my first college final at Tri-C, but guess what? Final grades were posted last night and this bitch got a 93% on the final! This resulted in an overall grade for the entire semester of…..drum roll pleeeeease…..AN A+!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WHAT EVEN?!!! I seriously almost cried when I saw my amazing grade! I was up late last night and I happened to check my grades just in case my teacher decided to post them, even though they weren’t due until this morning. When I saw the notifications that the grades were up, my heart felt like it was going to fall out of my butt. I was so nervous to click on the “Check Grades” link, but I shut my eyes really tight, took a deep breath, and clicked it anyways to see my results. I counted to three, opened my eyes, and let out a squeal of delight when I saw that beautiful A+. I didn’t care that it was midnight, I ran to my parents’ room to tell them the good news! Even in the middle of the night, they were both still super excited for me!! I took my final this past Thursday and spent all weekend freaking out about my grades. I spent many hours calculating the lowest score I could possibly get for me to fail the class with a C or lower. I racked my brains to go through the possible grades that I could have got on previous assignments – but nothing seemed to ease the nervous tension of waiting for that final exam score. I’m so happy I passed with flying colors, because I wouldn’t be able to take the math course that I signed up for this summer if I failed the current class and that was a major concern of mine. Words can’t even begin to describe how proud I am of myself. Seriously, I haven’t felt this good about anything in a very long time and I have solely me, myself, and I to thank for it! I worked my ass off, studied hard, and completed every single assignment, quiz, test, and extra credit opportunity to the best of my ability and it beyond paid off in the end! Now that this anxious weight of playing the waiting game for my grades has been lifted off of my shoulders, I can finally sit back and enjoy my mini break until my summer classes start up on the 26th! I’m so excited to continue my educational journey at Tri-C and I’m ready for everything that my new courses have to throw at me! As a reminder, I’ll be taking Social Psychology, Introductory Sociology, and Survey of Mathematics for the summer semester. All of the classes will be completed within ten weeks, so it will be very fast paced. That would have worried me before, but now I’m floating on cloud nine of confidence so I know that I can handle it and have another semester of wonderful grades to show for it! YAY SARAH! #smartypants

^^^ HOLLER!

Well I must be off to get ready for an afternoon of fun with one of my lovely girlfriends, but I just had to let you guys know about my good news before I leave! I hope all of you have a fantastic day! Does anyone know of any good websites to sell textbooks at? If so, I wanna hear from you so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

Lil Red’s Fresh Face Facial

Hello, hello everyone! So as you can see by my featured image photo, I’m going nude, au natural, bare faced – in other words makeup free to discuss my without fail facial! I worked as the assistant manager at The Body Shop for over half a year, and it taught me a lot about skin care and products. Now that my older sister is working there as my prodigy, it’s so fun to instill in her some Body Shop knowledge – and still get some awesome discounts on their products! Holla! Thanks to my vast knowledge on skin care, skin types, and everything in between, I’ve been known to give a mean facial at home to my sister and my mom. This past weekend I decided to treat myself (and my sissy!) to one of my fabulous facials to freshen up my skin and go bare faced for the world. If there’s one thing that I get complimented on a lot, it’s my creamy complexion. It’s very important to me to maintain my healthy pale glow, so constant skin care is a must. Here’s another pic of me going au natural, and then we’ll discuss some facial fun with a plethora of Body Shop products!

nomakeup1

^^^ My face is bare and I don’t care….too much anyways 😉 So I lined up all of my Body Shop products in the order that I use them for a Lil Red’s Fresh Face Facial, take a look and then I’ll discuss each item! Please don’t mind my dirty bath tub!

tbs

Step 1) Dampen skin with warm water and apply the Warming Mineral Clay Mask and let it sit for five minutes. I absolutely adore this product. The mask is made with ginger and a bunch of other good stuff and begins to warm as soon as it touches the skin. The warming sensation from the clay literally attacks your pores for a deep cleanse. After five minutes of having the mask on, almost all of the blackheads that live around my nostril piercings disappeared. Needless to say, I was a very happy camper about that! After your mask is done sitting, wet a cloth with warm water and gently wipe off your skin.

Step 2) It’s time to wash your face! You can use whatever cleanser you please, but I recommend that it’s a cream base rather than a gel to avoid drying out your skin. I used the Pomegranate Softening Facial Wash to give my skin a nice, gentle cleansing after my pores were stripped from the mask. Wash your face well so you remove any remaining clay and grime, and don’t pat yourself dry quite yet!

Step 3) This step will be different for everyone depending on their skin type. If you have “normal” skin, like myself you should be fine with using a facial scrub like the Tea Tree Squeaky Clean Scrub straight from the container. However, scrubs can be a bit harsh on acne prone skin, so if you do have acne I recommend mixing up the scrub with the Vitamin E Hydrating Toner just like how you would mix it with water before using on the skin. Using a moisturizing toner mixed with a somewhat harsh scrub should eliminate any unpleasant burning or stinging. If you have normal skin, apply the toner after you’re done with your scrub. Tea Tree products are specifically used for acne, but even if you don’t suffer from it, the scrub will leave your skin feeling exhilarated and your pores will be squeaky clean just as the name of the product says!

Step 4)  Apply a treatment. Now is a good time to apply topical acne cream if you use it. If not, I like to put on an eye cream as my treatment, like the Nutriganics Smoothing Eye Cream. The skin around the eyes is so sensitive and can dry out very easily, so it’s so important to keep the windows to your soul hydrated! There’s plenty of great eye creams at The Body Shop to choose from – I’m also particularly fond of the eye cream in the Vitamin E line as well!

Step 5) Moisturize, moisturize, moisturize!!! Like the eye creams, The Body Shop has an abundance of excellent moisturizers to choose from. During my most recent facial I used their new Vitamin C Glow Boosting Moisturizer but any kind will do! Each line from Aloe to Vitamin E to Pomegranate has their own moisturizer – so it’s up to you to pick the best one for your skin type. I’m all about my skin having a radiant glow to it, so I’m simply thrilled that the Vitamin C line finally has a moisturizer!

Step 6) This step is optional, but I’m including it because it’s part of my skin care regime. To end a facial or my daily skin care routine I always apply the Vitamin C Skin Boost to tie everything together. This fantastic product gives an instant glow to your skin and leaves a lovely matte finish, which is the perfect way to complete a fresh face facial. Having smooth, matte skin is also a bonus if you plan on applying makeup afterwards, but I don’t recommend it – let your skin breathe!!

Next time you or your girlfriends need a night of pampering, make sure to follow my guide for the Lil Red’s Fresh Face Facial! All of the products that I mentioned above can be purchased in stores or online at http://www.thebodyshop.com. Have a fabulous night and please make sure to check out my most recent article “Monday Update: Online Shopping, Lil Red Style” for some amazing pieces up for grabs! What’s your favorite product from The Body Shop? Do you have any questions about the products or steps? I wanna hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

Monday Update: Online Shopping, Lil Red Style!

Hello, hello everyone and Happy Monday!! I hope all of you had a terrific weekend and a lovely Mother’s Day! I did some cleaning out of my vast closet this weekend and hit up Plato’s Closet this morning to get rid of some of my clutter. Before I drop off the items that they didn’t want to purchase at the Goodwill, I wanted to give all of you gorgeous readers the opportunity to get to them first! (And speaking of Goodwill, make sure you take a look at my article “Thrift Shop Fun At Blue” to read all about my amazing thrifting experience this past weekend!) So pull up a chair, get comfy, and check out this cute dress and jewelry that I have up for grabs. And as usual, here’s the breakdown of each item and where they’re from!

  • Sheer dress: Lux, size Small (Forgive me for forgetting where I purchased this bad boy!)
  • Beaded pendant choker: I got this beauty in a fair trade store in Chicago. If memory serves me correctly it was made in Africa.
  • Beaded floral choker: This fun little piece was purchased from The Market Path in Akron, which is another fair trade store. Once again, if memory serves me correctly, this necklace was made in India.
  • Knick knack necklace: American Eagle

The Lux sheer dress is seriously so cute. It looks darling under a black slip and paired with some funky wedges. The gap backed detailing is especially fun and the eyelet button on the back neckline is another sweet little add on. I love fair trade shopping too much, particularly fair trade jewelry shopping as you can see! Nothing is better than buying some great pieces that go to an even better cause. While cleaning my closet this weekend, I went through my jewelry collection so I could try to dwindle it down because it was getting out of control. Despite how cute all three of the necklaces I have up for grabs are, I rarely wear them and they’re just taking up space. All of these pieces are in great condition, and if you’re interested in any or all of them, you can email me at sarah.mush6794@gmail.com so we can discuss prices and I can send you more detailed pictures! For more exclusive peaks into my wardrobe, make sure you check out “Look Like Lil Red”, “Just So You Know”, and all of my other fashion articles! Happy shopping!

Once again, if you’re interested in any of these pieces, make sure you email me at sarah.mush6794@gmail.com!
