Going on vacation is the perfect chance to get away from all of your everyday stressers. You may want to forget everything for the time you’re away, and that’s fine, but taking a few steps before you go will ensure that you don’t return to disaster. Coming home to find that you’ve had a break in would ruin that relaxed vacation feeling straight away. Avoid that eventuality by ensuring you do everything possible to keep your home safe. Following these tips will allow you to escape entirely during your time away:
Don’t Announce Your Vacation on Social Media: In a world where we live on social media, it’s tempting to plaster your page with news of your vacation. You want your friends to know where you’re going, right? Call them up and tell them! Putting the fact that you’re on vacation online is as bad as sticking a sign on your door saying that the house is empty. Don’t invite a break-in into your life. You may think it’s safe, but you never know who’s watching your page. Even people you don’t have as friends can see what you’re putting online a lot of the time. You may trust everyone on your friend’s list, but it’s those other people you need to be careful with.
Tell Your Neighbors: Letting a few neighbors know that you’re going away will allow them to keep an eye on the house. Knowing that someone is watching over your place will allow you to stop stressing. Leave a contact number and ask them to call you if they see anything suspicious. It might be worth asking a family member or friend to pop in while you’re away, too. If a thief is watching the house, seeing people coming and going will put them off. Not to mention that your guest can do a quick check around the house. They can collect your mail, as well, so there’s not a pile right in front of the door for anyone to see. Make sure you let those neighbors know that this will be happening to avoid confusion!
Take Precautions: Taking a few home defense precautions is always a good idea, especially if you’re away. Keep your valuables locked up. If you haven’t got a home security system in place, you should consider one. It’s possible to buy alarms which send a notification to your phone when triggered. That way, you’ll know what’s happening straight away. This method is much more reliable than asking people to keep an eye on things. After all, they can’t be watching all of the time.
Leave a Light On: Leaving a light on when you go away is an old trick, but it works. Don’t worry about the cost of the electricity, either. Think how much more you would lose from a break in. Leaving a light on will fool any potential thieves that the house is occupied. This, paired with the person you have popping in every now and again, is sure to work as a deterrent.

Hey everyone! Sorry I have been MIA, I have been and still am pretty sick. My sister had a nasty cold and cough, which transferred to my brother, which transferred to me, which I transferred to my boyfriend, which I’m sure will end up getting transferred back to me somehow because that’s just how things happen in my life. Anyways, I’ve had a cough, cold, fever, and aches from hell since Monday and I am still feeling fairly questionable today. Fingers crossed that those feelings subside by tomorrow, though, because my family is taking a little beginning of fall vaca!
Yeah that’s right! For the first time in twenty-two years of being alive, my family is going on two vacations in one year. We enjoyed being in Asheville, North Carolina so much in June that we just had to come back. This time we are bringing our two dogs with us to the extremely canine friendly city and are departing on Friday and coming home on Wednesday. This is something that my family has never ever done before and I’m seriously so excited!
This semester has been a bitch and a half but I have already gotten all of my work completed for the following week and am ready for some much needed R&R! Since I have been away from my beloved blog baby for so long this past week, I will be sure to get some writing done while I’m tucked away in a little cabin in NC! Have a fabulous rest of your week everyone and See Ya Later! 🙂
Helloooo everyone and happy Monday! Today marks my first day back on campus at Tri-C for the fall semester and did I mention that it’s my LAST semester?! After this fall, I will be graduated with my Associate of Arts degree! Yay! I will be taking five classes and then I am done, done, DONE and I could not be happier. I will be mighty busy this fall with both of my jobs on top of a full time school schedule but it will be so nice to just power through it all and wind up with a degree at the end of it.
I will try to post as often as I can but just know that if I randomly go MIA for a short while, it is because I am drowning in homework. This fall I will be taking Adolescent Psychology, Bioethics, Astronomy, a course called Ecology, Environment, and Evolution, as well as a lab for that course. Yikes! All of the classes sound interesting enough, though, so there’s that. -_-
My fall guest bloggers series will be coming soon on lifewithlilred so keep your eyes peeled for that as I feature some wonderful bloggers and their favorite things about fall! Now, I will leave you with a little ditty from one of my fave school based flicks, Billy Madison:
^^^ Just beautiful.
So there you have it, this week’s Monday Update: Back To School Edition! Who else is starting up at college soon? How do you keep yourself organized during a busy semester? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. –Sarah
Hello everyone! I will be taking my vacation hiatus starting tomorrow and will not be available until the twelth. “Does this mean there won’t be blog posts on your page while you’re gone?” you might ask. The answer is NO because I have organized a vacation guest bloggers series for while I’m away. These posts were created special for all of my readers by new and old blogging friends and are there for your enjoyment until I return.
My guest bloggers have created some really fantastic articles for you guys and I just know that you’re going to love them. All of these guests will always have a home on lifewithlilred if they so choose and I hope that all of you will make them feel welcome on my page!
“Does this mean we’re not going to hear from you at all while you’re gone?” you might ask. The answer is NO because I will have access to WiFi at the cabin my family will be staying in. I will check in on the blog from time to time but for substantial vacation updates, you can find me on my personal Facebook page! I will be posting pictures, statuses, and the good ol’ Twistfire ads so please feel free to follow me on there for lots of vaca fun!
I hope all of you have a super fabulous time while I’m away and I look forward to hearing from all of you when I return! Ta ta for now because I’m off to North Carolina, baby! Much love. -Sarah
PS: Sorry I’ve been MIA these past few days – my summer classes, internship, and job with NCI has taken over my lifeeeeeeee!
Hiiii everyone and happy Sunday Funday!! Just so you know, I will be out of office today because my boyfriend, Kyle, and I have a super fun day ahead of us. Kyle is the Assistant Manager at Gervasi Vineyard, which is in Canton, Ohio. It’s such a gorgeous property with three restaurants, villas, vineyards, orchards, and a huge lake. He has a work party today which is casino themed so that means we get to dress up, drink wine, and mingle!
The last work party of his that I went to was a blast, so needless to say, I’m SO excited! I hope you all are having a fantastic weekend and be sure to tune in on Tuesday to hear all about my night of frivolity! Much love. -Sarah
Hello everyone and happy Hump Day! This is a Busy Busy Week for Lil Red…One of my college classes started yesterday, my boyfriend’s mom is getting surgery, I have Special Olympics skating to coach, siblings to drive, and I’ll be out of office Thursday night and Friday for a road trip to Detroit, Michigan. Detroit?! Yes, Detroit. My uncle is trading in his car to someone in that neck of the woods so I’m going to be his wing girl so he has a way to get home! It will be about a three and a half hour trip and luckily my travel partner is one of my favorite relatives so it should be a lot of fun.
One of my classes for my spring semester at Tri-C started yesterday so I need to get a jump on that since I won’t have much time to work on it throughout the week. I’m taking French II, Introduction to Criminology, and Abnormal Psychology which is the one that just started. I’ve taken so many different psychology courses at Tri-C that I can’t even think of them all off of the top of my head. I’ve loved all of my psych courses but I’m really looking forward to my newest class. I enjoy learning about mental health and different disorders so I have a feeling that the Abnormal Psychology class will be one of my favorites. My French and Criminology classes don’t start until February 1st so it will be nice to get a little refresher for a few weeks after my winter break!
I have a lot of fun posts lined up for this week once things slow down a little including some new purchases from Forever 21, a possible article for a new company that I’ll be posting for if it’s ready, and some beauty product reviews. I’ll try to get some of these prewritten so I can schedule them for when I’ll be away during my Detroit drive! I’ve really enjoyed my winter break but I’m so ready to get back into the normal crazy swing of things. Having some time off was nice but I can’t wait to get back to work and get a few steps closer towards getting my Associate of Arts degree!
It’s definitely a Busy Busy Week in the world of Lil Red but you can always count on me to keep supplying the latest and greatest here on the ol’ blog! Where are all of my college kids at? What courses are you taking for your spring semester? I wanna hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah
Helloooo everyone! Just so you know, I will be out of office today because I’ll be working in Columbus for my job with the National Core Indicator research project. It’s going to be a two or so hour drive to get there so I’ll be leaving pretty early in the morning to get there in time to find the building and check in. I’ll be back with you on Friday for the latest and greatest so until then feel free to reach out to me via:
