Black Friday Shopping Do’s And Don’ts

Black Friday Shopping Do’s And Don’ts

Hello everyone and happy Tuesday! I can’t say that I’ve ever gone Black Friday shopping before and have no real desire to, either. BUT, after working retail for four years, I’ve grown savvy to some pro tips that will get you through the madness with some great deals and your personal safety/sanity still intact. Take a look:

DO:

Know your sales: Most stores do the same Black Friday sales every year. PacSun does, The Body Shop does, Claire’s does, Piercing Pagoda does (All stores that I’ve worked at.). Investigate the sales from year’s past and see if you notice a pattern. That way, you can determine if it’s even worth it to go out and hit the shops. Most stores won’t give you their Black Friday sales info before the day – but it doesn’t hurt to ask, either!

Know your sales Pt. 2: Normally, Black Friday sales don’t end on Black Friday. At PacSun and The Body Shop, their sales didn’t end for a solid month. If you don’t get to the stores on the actual day, I wouldn’t sweat it too much – especially because Cyber Monday is still a thing.

Cyber Monday Savvy: And speaking of Cyber Monday, get hip to it. In some cases, Cyber Monday sales are even better than Black Friday deals, especially if the stores you prefer to shop at have a stronger online presence. Do your research of sales from the past as mentioned in the above sections and make your decision on which day to shop. Or throw caution to the wind and shop on both!

Get there early: If there’s something that you really want, I’d recommend staking out at that specific store front at least an hour before opening. That way, you can get in, grab the item, and get out. It also doesn’t hurt to see if you can put items on hold prior to the Black Friday date so that you can purchase them with the sales and you don’t have to run into the store like a madwoman to get it.

Let it go: If you find yourself in a stand off for the last of something, just let it go. People are literally crazy and I’d rather leave the store in one piece than get the last of something that I’m sure you can buy at a later date.

DON’T:

Be that person: Black Friday is, by definition, a crazy time. Please have some respect. At the mall that I worked in, the store manager of Victoria’s Secret got punched in the face THREE YEARS IN A ROW. That’s pure insanity. You are all better than that. Don’t be that person.

Go in willy nilly: It’s essential to have a game plan during Black Friday. What items do you want? What stores are a must to go into? Can you and whomever you’re going shopping with divide and conquer to get everything on your lists? Devise a plan and stick to it so that you can make the most out of your Black Friday shopping extravaganza.

Buy in excess: Yes, it’s great to get a good deal. BUT do you really need everything that you’re buying? It’s nice to see all of the money that you saved, but don’t buy stuff just for the sake of buying it on Black Friday. As I mentioned before, check the deals. Some stores already have their sales going on now. Think of what is really necessary to purchase and try and do it beforehand, if you can. Being involved in all of the Black Friday hubbub can make you feel inclined to overspend so DON’T FALL FOR IT!!

Black Friday is not everyone’s cup of tea. It certainly isn’t mine! But that doesn’t mean that I don’t know a thing or two about how to shop during it. Use my pro tips and have the best Black Friday shopping experience yet! What are some of your Black Friday do’s and don’ts? What are some of the best Black Friday deals that you have scored? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

Why It’s Never Too Late To Learn How To Play An Instrument

Why It’s Never Too Late To Learn How To Play An Instrument

“I should have learned to play the guitar, should’ve learned to play them drums”, so sang Dire Straits in 1985. While a total lack of musical knowledge or awareness hasn’t been an impediment to many people working in the music industry today, many of us regret either not having learned or abandoning the learning of a musical instrument. Today, we’ll look at why it’s never too late to pick up an instrument, the pedagogic and psychological benefits, as well as looking over some great instruments for neophyte musicians. Learning a musical instrument is more than just a fun hobby, it’s a valuable skill that has numerous cerebral benefits as well as being a cool trick to bust out a parties!

It’s literally never too late:

Virtually everyone benefits from some sort of creative outlet and while we’re all just sort of expected to find the right one in our teens or early twenties, many of us don’t find the right mode of self-expression until they get into middle or even old age. There are few subsets of people for whom the dexterity and mental faculties to play an instrument are prohibitive. If, for example, your arthritic hands make playing the guitar or piano problematic you may benefit just as much from learning the harmonica or the panpipes.

Getting over the learning curve:

The landfills are littered with guitars that were discarded because their owners deemed it “too hard”. Most of them were impatient children or teenagers (We all knew someone at school who quit their guitar lessons because they didn’t become a virtuoso within a month.). As an adult, you may surprise yourself with how well you navigate the learning curve. While your older mind may be set in its ways, you will have learned the value in persistence elsewhere in life.

For most instruments, unlocking the fundamentals is a huge step in smoothing out the steep learning curve. In guitar playing, for example, much of your musical vocabulary is formed by mastering the ‘barre chords’ – moveable chords. When one has the measure of these, they can play any minor or major chord from a good root position. It takes time to master, but it unlocks so much of the instrument’s potential when you do. When this obstacle is hurdled, a player has the inside scoop in learning to cover their favorite music and even learning to write their own.

Cerebral and psychological benefits:

When playing (or even listening) to music, multiple areas of the brain become active. Musicians may look calm and composed but there are firework displays in their neurons. Processing music is actually an incredibly complex mental process, giving our brains a great workout that most of the time we’re not even aware of. It keeps our brains young and aids cognitive dexterity.

Finding the right instrument:

Hopefully, you’ve been moved to consider taking up a musical instrument, but you may wonder which are the best or most accessible ‘starter instruments’. String instruments such as guitar, violin, piano, cello, and bass are fairly accessible for new learners, as are the flute and clarinet. The saxophone presents a slightly steeper learning curve but it’s so ubiquitous in so many forms of music, that learning to master it opens up a lot of doors. Once you have met the basics, it will be exciting to experiment with your sound and additional equipment. For example, you might want to buy premium guitar accessories like pedals to introduce a whole new style to your playing.

There’s no such thing as the wrong instrument. Even learning an instrument that you don’t stick with tends to be a gateway to learning more. And isn’t it always fun to try new things?!

Looking For A House? Savvy Tips For Your Search

Looking For A House? Savvy Tips For Your Search

House hunting is probably one of the most exciting and important things that you will ever do. You are looking for a place that you will be investing lots of time and money in, as well as living in, so you are definitely going to want it to be one hundred percent right. That means you have to be savvy and up to speed when looking for your new property. Whether you are house hunting solo or working with a trusted Realtor, read on to find out all you need to know about being a smart home hunter and finding the place of your dreams:

Be ready to move financially:

One thing that savvy house hunters do to speed the process up and make it less stressful is to make sure that they are ready to move financially before they start looking. That means that they have their deposit saved, they have their mortgage approved provisionally, or they have their previous house sold. This also means no going to open houses unless you are truly in a position to make a move if you like it. Otherwise, you risk finding your perfect home and not being able to do anything about it. Then, you will experience the heart break of having to watch as someone else waltzes in and takes it out from under your nose.

Having your finances in order is essential, because as soon as you see a home that you like, you can swoop in and make an offer. This makes the process a lot quicker for you, and it also stops other people from getting there first.

Know your budget and what you can get for it:

Next, savvy home hunters are well aware of their budget before they start looking and they are able to adhere to it. Sure, it can be fun to look at places that stretch the budget, especially if they have everything on your wish list, but the fun will stop once you realize that there is no way that you can move forward with the purchase.

Having said this, some folks do anyways and then get stuck with a property that they cannot comfortably afford. This means that they risk a reduction in the quality of their life and possibly foreclosure if they get too far behind. Obviously, neither of these situations are ideal.

The key question that you need to ask yourself is whether what you want and what you can afford actually tally up. It’s easy to get into a situation where we think that we should have a huge home with all sorts of amazing additions, especially since we see them on TV all of the time. However, back in the real world, your budget may just not stretch to that, so as a smart home hunter, you need to have a serious reality check before you even start to actively look for homes.

Consider all of the options:

Savvy home hunters are particularly clever when it comes to exploring all of the options available to them. That means that they look at houses, apartments, and bungalows before making their final decision. It also means that they consider better value options such as resale hdb instead of new builds, micro houses, or even houseboats. Remember for a smart house hunter, the main goal is for the property to meet their needs and be within budget, and if a more alternative option does this, then it shouldn’t be ruled out as a contender.

savvy2

A big house may seem appealing, but remember the cost!

Decide on a location:

The importance of location when buying a property is well known, and another strategy that savvy home hunters use is to know exactly which locations they want and then stick to it.

To be able to do this yourself you will need to do your research first. A good way to go about this is to write down a list of attributes that you want the area to have. These may include being picturesque, modern, city central, near to good schools, and the like. Then, use this list as a guide when looking at possible locations. However, while using the list, you must always remember to cross-reference this with whether the types of properties available there fit in with what you need and your budget.

Keys, please!

With the tips above in mind, you will be a savvy home hunter in no time! Make your list, check your budget, and hit the market for your dream home!

Paperwork Priorities: Travel Admin To Take Care Of In Advance

Standard
Paperwork Priorities: Travel Admin To Take Care Of In Advance

When you’re looking to travel, it’s sometimes easy to believe that you can just book a flight and head out. Okay, so technically, you can do that – but it’s not always the best way to go about things. Making sure that all bases are covered is important. If you’re a stickler for organization, then this is something that you’re definitely going to want to plan for in advance. However, it’s not always easy to know what pieces of paperwork you should be filling out.

If you want to make sure that you can enjoy your trip safely and responsibly, then there are certain pieces of admin that you should focus on. Both for planning the trip and enjoying it while you’re there, here are some key things that you should take care of well before your departure:

Apply For Any Visas:

As soon as your trip is booked, you should definitely look into the visa requirements. Of course, not every trip that you go on will need a visa, but if you are leaving the country, then it’s best to read up on the visa issuing details as early as possible. Then, if you do need a visa, you will have plenty of time to get your application in and secure your visa before you leave.

Get Travel Insurance:

Next, you should think about securing your travel insurance. Whenever you do any kind of travel, it’s essential that you have the right insurance. That way, should your trip get cancelled, you lose any luggage, or have an accident, you’re covered. This is a form of admin that you can iron out early on. By getting your coverage in early, you’ll have one less thing to do closer to your travel date. Speaking of lost luggage, it might be a good idea to use an AirTag to keep track of your belongings. Just be sure to research things like how long do airtags last, how to pair the device, etc so you don’t run into a glitch during your travels.

pw1

Don’t forget your map and sunglasses!

Check On Health Insurance:

Another key thing to check out is the kind of health coverage that you need. If you’re traveling nationally, then you should be fine with the coverage that you have. But you will need to check if you’re covered abroad. Sometimes, your travel insurance will cover you. But it’s something that you do need to look into, and perhaps purchase if necessary, before you leave. Don’t just assume that you are covered, because we all know the old saying about assuming. Take the time to call your current provider or even shop around with different ones like MinnesotaCare Health Insurance Providers (or a similar company in your local area). Your provider should be well versed on the ins and outs of health coverage during travel so you can enjoy your vacation worry free.

Get Your Pet’s Paperwork:

If you’re taking your pet with you, you’re also going to need to get their affairs in order. If necessary, you should get your legit ESA registration confirmed as soon as possible. Remember to also bring any medications, special foods, and treats that your four legged friend might need, as well.

Get Your Shots:

You’re also going to want to think about the shots that you might need, too. Again, if you are staying in the country, then you may not need to do this. But if you’re traveling internationally, then you’re going to want to check up on any vaccinations that you may need. You can find all of the information that you need online for this, and you can also check with your doctor if you want to make sure that your shots are up to date.

pw2Planning makes perfect!

Order Foreign Currency:

Once all of your paperwork is a go, you’re also going to want to put your order for foreign currency in. Depending on where you’re going, you may even be able to pick this up from your bank just by heading in. If not, you can simply place your order and pick it up when it’s ready.

Prepare Your Travel Information:

As you’re finishing up, think about how you’re going to store all of your newly acquired info, should something happen. You can actually store your travel information safety online, should you need to access backup documents. From your passport to flight details, you’re able to keep copies of all of your important travel information in case you lose anything.

Arrange Transportation:

Getting to and from the airport can be extremely stressful. There tends to be a lot of traffic and you may experience those pre and post flight jitters. Not to mention, if you transport yourself you will have to pay parking fees and those can get pricey. Enlisting the help of family or friends or arranging a heathrow chauffeur service (or your local area) is strongly advised. It will save you stress, save you money, and ensure that you arrive safely should you have any nerves.

Fill Out Your Pre-Flight Information:

Your final step is something that you can only do close to your actual travel date. Some airlines will want you to fill out your pre-flight information online. This not only saves you time when you get to the airport, but it can be a legal requirement, too. When you do book your trip, make a note of when you can do this and be sure to get your information in as soon as you can.

Traveling is a blast, but traveling with the peace of mind that all of your affairs are in order is even better. Get organized, get ready, and have the trip of your life!

Hi-Tech Your House Out

Standard
Hi-Tech Your House Out

Technology is every where and is used for almost every thing. A trip to the shops? You take the car or other transport. In the stores themselves you can see aisles full of the latest gizmos and gadgets. So why let your home fall behind in the times? There’s so much cool technology out there that it would be silly to not deck your home out with it. There’s not just the tech for showing off, but there’s also the ones that will actually aid you and save you a lot of money in the long run. Let’s have a look at what you can put in each room to help you get the most bang for your buck in your home:

Kitchen:

Let’s start with something that’s going to aid you in the long run. A dehumidifier. You may not realise it, but whenever you cook and the room gets a little steamy, opening the windows doesn’t stop it from sticking to the walls to begin with. If you’re one of those people that chooses not to open the windows, then chances are that over time you’re going to get a build up of mold somewhere. A dehumidifier is perfect for preventing this. They don’t cost that much, and it could save you a lot of money from preventing an unneeded mold issue.

Living Room:

This is the center of the house, so why not have the best tech in it? Whether you’re having a cozy night in or family and friends round, use it as the room to wow them with the biggest most beautiful television that you can find. The way that TV tech has advanced in the last two years is incredible. Look into getting yourself a large, preferably 50-60 inch curved 3D TV. As big of a mouthful as it may be, the picture quality it’ll give you is insane. Try and get a 4K one and you’ll be blown away. Your kids will absolutely love the 3D element, and it’ll definitely amaze any guests that you have over. Yes, it may be pricey, but a TV lasts a long while, so it is definitely a worth while investment. Couple it with a surround sound system and it will really give that cinema quality to any film you’re watching.

Another essential piece of tech, for both the summer and the winter months, is a dual heating and cooling system, also known as an HVAC. During the colder months that are approaching, you can use it to keep your home nice and toasty. Come the summer months, reverse it and it’ll be an excellent cooling system. They are more efficient and easier to control than normal heating, and the fact that it can heat and cool is so handy. Look for HVAC contractors that can install it for you. You’ll be loving your lounge before you know it!

Bedroom:

The bedroom is the place where you retreat to escape the madness of the day. So put some tech in there that’s going to make life that little bit easier. Take the Amazon Echo for example. Yes, it can be used anywhere in the house, but it has some neat features to help you out. Simply say “Alexa, set an alarm for eight AM”. Pretty lazy right? But we live in a lazy generation, so finding a few shortcuts along the way can only help! You can also ask it about traffic on your route to work whilst you’re getting ready, this gadget finds out everything for you. So utilise it!

The Dyson Eye can be used anywhere in the house, but it is wonderful for your bedroom quarters. It’s basically a little robotic hoover that’ll go around on its own vacuuming areas. This is perfect for the bedroom, as it’s usually the room with the smallest amount of walking space. This little robot buddy will prevent constant bashes into the wall with your clunky old vacuum!

Technology is changing daily and can only make your home even more amazing. Do your research and find out which gizmos will work best for you!!

Technology – The Secret Ingredient Of Success

Standard
Technology – The Secret Ingredient Of Success

More and more businesses are relying on technology to make their operations more, well, awesome, efficient, productive, secure, and profitable. The big problem is keeping up with the Lewis Hamilton paced world of advancing tech, which is complicated further by the fact that business leaders, like you, already have their hands full with the other tasks that keep their company in the here and now.

Luckily for you, we have taken the time to cast a rather glorious spotlight on exactly which areas of your business can be greatly improved by the introduction of the right technology. What’s more, we’re not going to waste any more of your time getting to the point:

Mobile Is The Number One Must-Have: For all of the different technology that there is out there, none has crashed into our lives like a New Year’s Eve fireworks display more than the mobile. Last year alone, more than six billion people tuned into a mobile device. Of course, this is quite a big entity in its own right, so to narrow it down a bit more, the areas you need to concentrate on are having a responsive website, a well-tested app, interactive social media, and mobile payment capabilities to keep your company in check with the tech savvy. Don’t forget that your business needs to be easy to communicate with and countless calls can be daunting. To ensure that every customer is tended to, you might want to enlist the help of a voice broadcasting service for the most efficient way to communicate. This service can include ringless voicemail and sms that will be fully automated so you can focus on your to do list.

Never down play the importance of a great website and social media. Every second of the day, millions of people are scrolling through their newsfeeds and preferred sites. Why shouldn’t it be yours?! When utilizing the most effective industrial content marketing strategies, you will surely find an increase in traffic and sales which means you are on the right track to even more success.

techhh1

Off the subject, but I like that bag!

It’s Time To Automate Your Marketing: In a world where time is the most valuable commodity and marketing is the number one way to grow your business, being able to combine the two is becoming increasingly important. Not only this, but they will also dent your need to hire another costly marketing agency-slash-executive. The major benefits on the efficiency front come in the form of lead generation, segmented messages, tailored responses based on actions, and their seamless integration with CRM platforms. AI Helpdesk Software is also especially beneficial as it can keep track of customer conversations, improve your ticketing system, and ensure that every customer can solve their issues in real time. With these tasks fully automated, it can allow you to focus completely on all of the other items on your to do list for the day.

Nothing Is More Important Than Security: Making sure that your business is safe and secure falls into the category of “Pretty Darn Important” for a plethora of reasons. There is the trust you give to your customers, the peace of mind you give to your clients, the reputation you need to protect and, of course, your profit margin. In terms of technology, we recommend you look for a home surveillance camera for sale, something that will let you monitor your physical space and employees from your mobile and not just online threats. That said, the advancements in tech have also made it easier to protect your email accounts, bolster your firewall, and secure both your wireless network and your browsers.

techhh2

 Hands up for security!!

Call In The Collaboration Tools: There are a thousand reasons why you need to adapt to the remote world in which we live; reasons that range from attracting top talent and acquiring B2B manufacturing leads to keeping business overheads down. However, in order to make remote working a viable option, you need to invest in the best collaboration tools. Sure, this may not be much of an issue now, but it is projected that over 60% of workers will work remotely by 2022. The platform we are loving at the moment is Google Team. It offers real-time collaboration on a virtual chat-based work space that is designed to make collaboration more accessible and efficient. Music to your ears, huh?

The world of technology is fast paced and constantly changing, and it is up to you as a business leader to keep on top of the ball so that you can keep your company at the top of the ranks.

Chin Up: What To Expect From An Ultherapy Session

Standard
Chin Up: What To Expect From An Ultherapy Session

We smile, yawn, gasp, and make a lot of different facial expressions during our lives. It’s a good thing, though, and a part of being human – but life leads to wrinkles and saggy skin over time. An increasing number of people are finding new ways to make sure that their skin stays tight and young-looking for as long as possible, and it doesn’t have to put you under the knife, either.

If you’re new to the methods of ultherapy, it’s smart to prepare yourself a bit before the first session. The good news, is that after it’s done, you won’t have to prepare yourself at all for other people’s reactions as the results are gradual and allow you to age with grace, rather than looking like you’ve been frozen in time.

What would I use it for?

If you feel like areas of your face are starting to slope, you may want to do something drastic about it. Some people head off for a numbing session of botox; others go for more permanent solutions, such as plastic surgery. While you need to choose the alternative that would work best for you, it’s always smart to look into every option out there – also the non-invasive ones like ultherapy.

Ultherapy uses focused ultrasounds in order to stimulate more collagen growth deep beneath your skin. A lot of people use it to lift their eyebrows or eyelids when they reach a certain age as the saggy skin may bother them, in general, and keep them from seeing as well as they would have been able to if the skin was lifted.

The same goes for aesthetic purposes and nothing should keep you from straightening out those wrinkles around your cleavage or make the skin in your neck or jawline a bit firmer if it could boost your confidence.

How long is the downtime?

Unlike many other alternatives in terms of giving your face a quick lift, ultherapy requires no downtime. You can literally step right out of the clinic and meet up with your friends or co-workers without any of them ever knowing.

The disadvantage to this, is that you may not see the results that you’re longing for as soon as you’d like, and it can take up to six months before the full effect hits you. It makes it a bit easier to get up in the morning and have a look in the mirror during these months, though, as you’ll be keeping a rigid eye on your skin from now on!

You will only need one session to get the kind of results that last for up to 18 months, and each of them will take between half an hour to two and a half hours, depending on how much work you want done. Luckily, our society is advanced enough to let everyone go about with their beauty business as they please. Want to wear no makeup one day and a full face the following day? Or how about a small nip and tuck to boost your self esteem? No problem, it’s all up to you.

Of course, it’s important to choose the procedure that you feel is best for you, so think it over and enjoy the beauty of confidence.
