Doing Right By Your Dog This Winter

Doing Right By Your Dog This Winter

As dog parents, we always want to do the best for our furry friends. The colder months are always a little more challenging than summer. But whether you’ve recently added a puppy to the family household or have been with your pooch for years, this winter could be tougher than most.

The impacts of COVID-19 will limit the possibilities in many aspects of dog care. However, you cannot afford to let it prevent your pup from receiving the love and care they deserve. Here are some tips to keep you on top of the situation throughout the early parts of 2021:

Protection from the cold:

The first job facing all dog owners is to keep them protected from the cold weather in winter. A continued commitment to fighting off frostbite and other dangers with dog shoes and coats can make a big impact. You should also use flea sprays and other protective items.

Prevention is the best form of protection at all times. While veterinary services are still open in most places, appointments may be harder to get. So, if you can avoid them altogether through improved winter care, you must grab that opportunity right away.

Pay extra care to nutrition:

A healthy dog is a happy dog, and nutrition remains the central feature. A balanced diet supported by the best dog treats will ensure that your pooch gets the right nutrients all winter. When combined with any necessary supplements, your dog’s health will soar.

It’s very easy to forget about hydration in the winter, but your dog cannot be left to go thirsty, either. Be sure to check out how much liquid a dog of your breed and size should take on each day. On a side note, brain games for dog treats are great to promote mental stimulation.

Stay active:

It’s inevitable that outdoor activities will suffer a reduction in the winter months. While this is true every year, the fact that some attractions are off-limits due to the pandemic does make it harder. Nonetheless, getting your dog out for regular exercise is as essential as ever.

Walking a combination of their favorite routes and new spots is vital for mental stimulation. Moreover, the activity promotes healthy bones, muscles, and joints. The benefits won’t always be seen right away, but you’ll notice them in the future. It’s good for weight management too.

Cutie!!!

Create a comfy home environment:

Getting outside on a frequent basis is pivotal for your dog’s health. Nonetheless, they will be spending more time at home. So, you owe it to your pooch to ensure that it is a comfortable environment. A great pet bed and plenty of toys should be at the top of the agenda.

If the dog is a new addition to the family, you’ll also need to think about introducing them to other pets. Even the notoriously challenging dog-cat relationship can be a lot simpler to manage than you might first think. The impact it will have in winter and beyond is huge.

Spend time near other dogs:

First and foremost, you must respect the current social distancing restrictions in your local area. However, if you are able to meet a friend for outside walks, this is a great way for dogs to stay socially active. This is crucial for their mental health and emotional stimulation.

While it’s something that dogs need every year, its benefits will be greater than ever over the coming weeks. It might not be possible to do this every day, but you should aim to do it several times each week. Of course, this will be easier if you have multiple dogs.

winterrr2

Besties!

Invest in good home grooming:

Some dog grooming companies will continue to offer a COVID-safe service. However, the chances of getting the same level of care that you’d usually receive are quite slim. Therefore, you must try to compensate for this by giving your pup the right home treatments.

Finding the best dog brush, nail clippers, and toothbrushes will serve you well. For the true dog parlor vibe, luxury shampoos and conditioners can be used too. Once you embrace the habit, you may find that your reliance on professionals is reduced after the pandemic too.

Think about the heat:

When at home in the cold weather, we all gravitate towards heat sources. However, this can be a danger for dogs if they get too close to heaters and run the risk of dehydration and skin burns. Therefore, radiator covers and fire guards are vital additions. Do it ASAP.

Good air circulation will certainly help the situation while also reducing the threat of bacteria growth. The potential issues with the heat also provides a reason to ensure that water is readily available for your dog throughout the day.

winterrr3

Snug as a bug.

Manage the backyard:

The backyard is a spot where your dog will gain regular exercise and stimulation. Sadly, if you do not take winter precautions, there’s a risk that they will escape. For example, snow can quickly build up against fences to create potential escape routes.

Likewise, adverse weather could damage panels to create further escape routes for your pup. So, if you wish to avoid this problem, it’s important to inspect the yard each morning before letting the pup out to play. It’s always better to be safe than sorry.

Show love:

Perhaps most importantly, your dog needs love and attention at this time. And frankly, given your lack of human interaction, it’s vital for you too. Playing games with your pet will deliver mutual mental health rewards. When your dog is happier, it will show in their behavior.

The key is to avoid long-term spells without seeing the pup. For many people, that will be easier than ever due to working from home. If you are still at the office, though, you must find alternative solutions. A dog sitter may not be possible at this time, though, so it’s important to be as present as you can.

Do right by your pups this winter with the tips above. Stay safe!

Pet Care: Dos And Don’ts

Standard
Pet Care: Dos And Don’ts

We love pets! Therefore, we always want to give them the healthiest, fullest lives while they’re with us. Unfortunately, in trying to give your pet the best, you may inadvertently harm them in the process. A National Pet Owners survey revealed that 85 million families in the US own pets and the majority of owners are concerned about their pet’s wellbeing. It’s essential to know the right way to care for your lovable animals. Here are three do’s and don’ts when taking care of pets:

Know what to feed them:

How often do you take time to read your pet’s dietary plan as well as what its food contains? These are the first steps in showing responsibility towards your pet. Many pet foods claim to be healthy but are not. In 2019, a lawsuit was filed against Kansas-based Hill’s Pet Nutrition over allegations of unhealthy foods that resulted in many dogs’ deaths. Did you know goldfish cannot take in food containing yeast as this is hazardous to their health? Click here to find out on what to feed your goldfish to be on the safe side. Additionally, always consult your veterinarian on ingredients you are unsure of. More so, avoid overfeeding your pets as this may cause them to exceed their daily calorie limits.

Regular visits to the vet:

It is critical to start your visits to the vet quite early with your pups and kittens. Your dogs and cats must be licensed and vaccinated against rabies when they are fourteen weeks old. At precisely one-year-old, they should also get a booster shot, depending on your state. For example, whereas California law strictly requires a dog to receive boosters annually, New York State law demands repeat shots every one to four years. However, some pet owners ignore booster shots for their pets and that puts families, strangers, and other animals in the home at risk. In extreme cases, others are not vaccinating their pets at all – known as anti-vax animal owners.

Your regular appointments with your vet are so important for your pets to have a long and happy life. Vets can help detect problems before they become significant and will be able to recommend the best course of treatment. This could include prescribing dog arthritis treatment, advising for physical therapy, or simply encouraging a change in diet. You are responsible for all aspects of care for your pet and an appointment with your vet is the best place to start.

Rub them the right way:

After a long and stressful day, you look forward to getting home to show some affection to your furry buddy. You finally get to rub your pet but immediately get nicked or scratched. Do you know what you did wrong? You rubbed them wrongly! Experienced pet owners recommend rubbing your furry friends in the direction of fur growth and not against it. When this is not done, your pet may interpret this as an attack. You should avoid going directly to the top of their head as you show affection. Instead, approach from the side of the pet’s head while maintaining gentle strokes until you reach the upper part. While dogs love to be stroked in the neck and shoulder areas, cats prefer soft scratching under the chin. You should also look out for signs of a wagging tail and purrs. These indicate that you’re doing it right.

Tips For Taking The Best Care Of Your Dog

Standard
Tips For Taking The Best Care Of Your Dog

Welcoming an extra furry member to your family can be such a rewarding experience, as a dog can provide you with comfort and entertainment to no end. Learning how to provide the best care for your pup should always be a priority whenever you invest in a new pet, as the responsibility is on you to look after them to the best of your ability. Luckily it needn’t be difficult to ensure they can lead a happy, healthy life, as there are a few key areas in which you can focus your efforts to make them feel comfortable and content for as long as possible. Like the following:

Eating Well:

One of the most important parts of your dog’s day is dinner time, and it’s vital that you make an effort to keep them on a healthy, balanced diet. Unfortunately, it’s so easy to just grab the cheapest canned food option from the supermarket shelf, but it’s more than likely that this choice will be made up of the lowest quality ingredients that provide little benefit whatsoever. Taking your dog’s diet seriously will mean that they have a much better chance of leading a long and comfortable life, as avoiding artificial foods can reduce the risk of illnesses like cancer occurring. There are so many fresh pet food options on the market today, even those which are kept inside the fridge, so take some time to research each choice and make an informed decision on which one is most suited to your pup.

If you want to take it one step further, you may wish to consider making your own dog food from scratch at home. There are hundreds of recipes online that you can utilize, most of which are based around grains, meat, fruit, and vegetables. Making your own dog food at home will be really beneficial for your pup if they have any allergies or sensitivities, as you can track the ingredients to make sure every dish is gentle on their tummy. Providing your dog with a healthy dinner each and every day will give them the energy they need to thrive, as well as all of the vitamins and minerals that their mind and body needs to function at optimum levels.

Regular Exercise & Play:

Making sure that your pup gets regular exercise is key to maintaining proper health, as they need a chance to stretch their legs, move their muscles, and work their heart harder. Aim to take them on a walk at least once a day, more if you can, as this will provide them with the exercise they need to stay fit. Taking them on a walk will also give them the opportunity to meet with other dogs, allowing them to stay social and improve their interaction skills at the same time. Regular play is a key feature of a calm and happy temperament, as a dog that’s bored is often much more unruly.

The duration of your pups daily exercise session should depend on their breed and age, as smaller or older dogs will want to walk far less than larger or younger dogs. Make your walks interesting by taking them on a route that includes a little nature such as a field or a forest, as they will get the chance to be a real animal and use their senses as they were destined to in the ‘wild’. You may also wish to take a few play items with you on your walk, such as a tennis ball or rope so you can play games like fetch to get them moving.

Keep Them Clean:

It’s absolutely essential that you keep your dog as clean as possible, otherwise they will experience discomfort, distress, and potentially even disease. Depending on the breed of your dog, you should aim to wash them at least once a month, possibly more, to keep them clean and fresh. If you aren’t able to wash your dog yourself, don’t simply skip over your responsibilities – take them to a groomer! If you do wish to clean your dog by yourself, then start off by finding a quality shampoo that suits their fur type. You can find shed control blends, sensitive products for dry skin, and so much more. It’s a good idea to read up on reviews left by previous customers to get a better view of the quality of the product you wish to buy before you invest, as there’s nothing worse than finding yourself in the bathroom with your dog covered in water and a shampoo that simply won’t lather.

Always remember to rinse their fur well and follow up with a conditioner for a touch of luxury. Make sure they are as dry as possible once you’ve finished bathing them, as wet dogs often smell quite foul. In addition to bathing, you should also perform other hygiene related tasks such as clipping their nails and you can even find dog teeth cleaning centers which can help to maintain their pearly whites. Making sure that your pup is clean will aid them in feeling comfortable and calm, and they’ll surely repay you with endless affection for the effort that you put in. Keeping your dog clean will also help you to keep your house clean, so it’s a win win situation!

Learning how to take great care of your dog has never been so simple with the tips above! Start off by sourcing the best quality food for your pup to devour and make sure you allow them to take part in regular exercise and play to stay physically and socially active. And also, please pet them for me! 🙂

Caring For The Trees In Your Garden

Standard
Caring For The Trees In Your Garden

If you have a large garden, planting some trees is a great way to use the space and attract wildlife. However, trees do require a lot of maintenance, especially as they get larger. Before you decide to put any trees in, it’s important that you know what is involved in tree care so you can make sure that they stay happy and healthy for years to come. These are some of the most important tree care tips that you need to know:

Early Tree Care:

When you first plant your trees, they need to be supported by canes and tree guards so they can find their feet without getting blown over by the wind. It’s important that you check inside the tree guards on a regular basis to make sure that there are no pests in there and they are still stable.

You shouldn’t need to water your trees because they will adapt to their natural environment. Over watering them in the early stages could cause the roots to rot, so make sure that you are careful when watering the surrounding areas. Cutting the grass can be an issue as well because it encourages faster grass growth and the grass competes with the tree for moisture. If you do want to cut the grass, do it carefully and leave the area around the tree.

Pruning:

Pruning is an important part of tree care because it encourages them to grow upwards, rather than outwards, and it helps to remove any diseased branches before the infection spreads. Pruning a tree in the right way can be quite difficult, so it’s best to call out a professional company, like VistaScapes LLC to handle it for you. You don’t necessarily have to prune your trees if you don’t want to but they will spread outwards and take over the garden and the risk of disease is much higher.

Coppicing:

As your trees get larger, you need to think about coppicing. This is the process of cutting lower branches and making cuts near the base of the tree to encourage new growth. It also allows more light to reach the ground so any flowers and plants that are close to the tree can still flourish. You shouldn’t need to worry about this until your tree gets quite large, usually after around seven to ten years of growth. To find an expert to help with coppicing when the time is right, simply enter a search for “tree service jacksonville fl” or your local area. This service will help to keep an adult tree in good health.

Avoiding Pests:

Pests love trees because they can climb up and use it as a way to access your home. If you have rats in the house, it may be because your trees are too close to the roof. When you are pruning, make sure to trim the trees back enough so you do not allow easy access for pests. If you do notice a lot of pests, it may be worth putting some traps around near the base of the tree. Just make sure that you don’t use harsh chemicals that could damage your tree. If you are tending to a pest issue, it is a good idea to book an appointment with professionals in Tree health analysis services. Pests can cause more damage to a tree than you might think and you will want to ensure that it remains in optimum health.

As you can see, there is a lot more that goes into planting and caring for a tree than you might have thought. As your tree matures, maintenance is encouraged and should not be left to DIY skills because you could get really hurt. It is a good idea to have a Tree Removal Company selected should you need help. A well rounded tree removal company will not just specialize in tree removal itself and can provide you with the services and knowledge to keep your trees thriving.

Trees are a great addition to the garden. Let them thrive by following these tips!

Spoil Your Pooch: Three Must-Haves For Your Dog

Standard
Spoil Your Pooch: Three Must-Haves For Your Dog

You’d be hard pressed to find anyone around these days who doesn’t have a very spoiled and beloved doggy in their home. Dogs are just so good, you know?

While we’re all dog lovers, our approaches to having an animal can be decidedly different. There are those of us who treat our puppers like family members, giving them every luxury, putting their needs and care above even our own, and sparing no expense for the best food, vet care, and more. Then of course, there are those who have a more hands off approach with their pets, loving them no less of course, but taking a more casual approach to pet ownership.

No matter what your pet-parenting style is, these are three areas in which you should always “splurge”, to provide your pet (and yourself) with the best life possible:

Grooming:

This is especially true for dogs who have dense, heavy coats or special needs in terms of washing/cutting. Too many people neglect their dog’s coat, which can lead to health problems, bad hygiene, and more. A groomer is more than just a stylist for your pet. They also treat the dog’s skin, cut their nails, express glands, and so much more.

And if you’re worried about cost, groomers are surprisingly inexpensive. You can find deals on sites like Groupon, subscribe to pet store services to get a discount, and even find independent contractors who will come to your home to groom your pet if you’re unable to get out or have an anxious dog. All of this is much more affordable than you think.

Grooming your dog is the responsible, economical, and hygienic thing to do, especially in the summer. Prevent matted fur, fleas, and shedding all over your house by hiring an affordable groomer to pamper your pup.

Obedience Training:

If you have a puppy or even an older dog that just can’t seem to behave, don’t snap. Dog owners who employ aggressive and/or violent discipline methods end up having anxious dogs who misbehave even more, or worse, violent dogs who end up being put down. By employing someone who will use aggressive dog training, you’ll ensure that your dog unlearns bad behaviors and learns good ones. Dog training courses are reasonably affordable and don’t take very long. Your dog will be home, behaving like a gentleman (or woman) in no time.

Good Food:

We’re all guilty of grabbing a quick and cheap bag of that knock-off two-dollar-a-bag dog food once or twice when we’re pressed for time or are super broke. It happens.

But generally speaking, spending the extra cash to buy your dog a healthy, nutritious brand of food will make a huge difference in their quality of life. Many dogs have dietary needs just like humans; whether they need something grain free, dairy free, non-allergenic, or need to avoid one or two specific ingredients. The stuff that you buy at the store is often full of corn, salt, and other fillers that can make your dog at the least, overweight and sluggish; at its worst, can seriously harm your dog. The same goes for dog treats. It’s a good idea to visit your vet to determine the dietary needs of your dog and what brands are recommended. For example, this Aussie company is great if your dog has allergies. Allergies can make your dog sick, lose weight, or even lose their appetite altogether, so if this is something your dog is struggling with, it might be time to check for allergies. Tailoring the food to your dog’s dietary needs is vital in ensuring your pup remains happy and healthy.

Purchasing high-quality dog food is worth the extra expense. Sites like Chewy and other great in-person pet stores have excellent, nutritious dog food for a wide variety of needs that won’t break the bank. Doesn’t your dog deserve it?

Don’t make life “ruff” for your dog if you don’t have to. By spending a little extra on these three goods/services, your pup will be happy, healthy, and provide you with years of companionship. You and your best friend will be happier than ever.

Is It Time To Make More Room For Yourself In Your Life?

Standard
Is It Time To Make More Room For Yourself In Your Life?

If you’re the kind of person that finds it hard to put themselves first, you’re not alone. So many of us tend to put others, especially our loved ones, before ourselves. It’s only natural. We want to make sure that they’re happy and healthy, content and comforted, and we’ll deal with our own needs after. But sometimes, when this is something that you do all of the time, you may find that you get taken advantage of.

You may also realize that you’re not really getting what you want out of life, because you’re not working on you, but others instead. So, there’s going to come a time where you need to put yourself first. While it will take work, you’ll be able to become your best self. So let’s take a look at how you can make more time for yourself in your life:

Allow Yourself To Relax: When this is something that you’re really not used to, you’re going to want to start off slow. And a great way to do that is to allow yourself to relax a bit. In a way, this is encouraging you to make time for your own needs and happiness. So get yourself a scent diffuser machine, find the best bath products, and create a cozy space at home just for you. Then, by slowly relaxing more and more, you’ll be able to ensure that you’re comforted and rested, and you start to see why putting yourself first counts.

Fill Your Time How You Choose: If you’re someone that tends to do what others want you to do, you’re going to get to a point where you realize that you’re not really living for you. So, you’re going to want to start being a bit more assertive on how you spend your time. Be sure to fill up your life with the things you love, and you’ll instantly feel like you’re living a whole lot more.

Make Time For A Social Life: Whether you’re someone that spends a lot of their time working or you just tend to focus on the needs of others too much, you may not have much of a social life. It’s time that you changed that. By making more time for a social life, not only will you be able to do more of the things that you love, but you should find a circle of friends who care about your well being as much as you do.

Focus On Your Health: Making more time for yourself isn’t always about the things you do with your time, it’s also about how you treat yourself. You should definitely look to focus on your health a little more. When you improve your health, your mind and body will feel better and, in turn, you’ll be able to feel happier too.

Learn To Say No: And finally, you’re going to want to learn to say no more. Because when you’re stronger, you’ll be able to start making choices that will benefit your life, rather than make you unhappy. That always starts with the ability to say no to things and people when it could negatively effect your lifestyle.

2018 is all about loving yourself, which means taking the best care of you as much as possible. Try starting out with the above tips and seeing how you feel!

Looking After Ageing Parents: Day Care VS Companionship

Looking After Ageing Parents: Day Care VS Companionship

If you’re in the position where you are having to face the daunting reality of looking after your ageing parents, it’s understandable that you might feel like you have the weight of the whole world on your shoulders; not only do you have to manage your own work/life balance, in addition to taking care of your family, you now face increasing pressure to take care of your parent or parents.

Indeed, taking care of elderly parents can be a real struggle; Not only must you find a solution that tends to their medical, physiological, and practical needs but also their social and emotional needs, as well. One would imagine, at this juncture, that all you want to do is take care of your loved ones in their old age, but there’s a limit to how you can protect them from the inevitable pitfalls of ageing. You’ve weighed up the pros and cons of trying to care for them yourself. You’ve been through a thousand Care.com reviews to check if they’d be a good fit for some in-home care. You’re trying to explore every single option you can find to make sure your parents have the support they need. But it can be a losing game. No matter how hard you try, you’re unlikely to be able to take care of the full gamut of your parents needs – but there is an area, that is often overlooked that you can play a vital role in.

This area is that of tending to their emotional and social needs. One of the core problems elderly people face is loneliness – this sense of loneliness can be much more debilitating than any of their physical ailments and it’s totally avoidable. Again, you’re unlikely to be in the position to be a full-time companion, and it’s important that you don’t give yourself a hard time for this… as there are ways of caring for their social needs without you needing to be at their beckon call. This article explores three options that you have available to lighten the load:

Paid Companionship:

It might feel like a strange notion to have to pay someone to offer companionship, but given the level of patience and the complexity of your own emotional experience in looking after an elderly patient; an external companion can provide great relief for both you and your parent. You should check out services like the senior companion program that use senior companions to provide genuine companionship from a place of authentic like-mindedness, people who are truly able to relate with their companion as a peer; rather than a disinterested person intending to make ‘easy’ income.

The important thing when searching for a companion, therefore, is a genuine connection that leads to natural rapport. There are plenty of elderly people that wouldn’t fancy the idea of having a companion, in this way, out of pride or perhaps fear that they don’t want the awkwardness of having to interact with someone they don’t really know or trust; therefore it’s of critical importance you find someone that can relate on their level – and the natural choice would be a similarly aged peer.

Daycare:

There are many daycare options available, where people get to interact with their peers, however something to be mindful of is that just because someone is elderly doesn’t mean that they want to be put on a coach and force fed bingo sessions. It’s important you find a daycare center that is aligned with your parent(s) interests and natural character.

Assisted Living:

Should your loved one need more care than regular pop ins from you or a daycare, you might want to consider assisted living. These spaces are often specific for people who need memory care or have difficulty completing daily household tasks safely. To ensure your parent is receiving the best quality senior care, schedule tours at several different locations. Pay close attention to how the staff behaves and if the residents seem happy and as healthy as they can be. Do be sure to try and visit as frequently as you can to verify that your parents’ needs are being tended to in a loving and timely manner.

In summary, you really want to find something suitable for your parents that naturally aligns with their character. Most people value developing a deep and meaningful friendship with a person rather than several superficial acquaintances; but both options lend themselves to this. The most important thing to remember is that it’s your parent who should be deciding how they spend their time and one of the greatest gifts you can offer is your patience, understanding, and flexibility in meeting their needs rather than your own.

Meaningful Career Ideas For Those Who Care

Meaningful Career Ideas For Those Who Care

Do you ever feel like you want to give something back to society? If so, you are in excellent company. While many people are driven to forge careers in helping people from an early age, others often take a while to come to a decision. There are plenty of stories of incredibly successful people who trade in their career to contribute more to society, and if that sounds like something you would like to do, then there are a multitude of options. The big question is – which meaningful career will mean a lot to you?

Sure, you could become a doctor, attorney, or professor in any field you like. But if you are making the decision to change careers mid-life, you have to bear in mind that it could be difficult to make such a leap, due to the financial implications – and your own personal responsibilities. So, let’s take a look at some of the other options available to anyone who wants to make a switch and start helping others out:

Teacher:

Preparing the nation’s youth for a healthy and prosperous life is a vital role, yet one that is often pilloried. However, don’t believe the expression ‘those that can do, those that can’t teach’ – nothing could be further from the truth. Teachers are pivotal to the success of this country and watching your students grow and become young adults is a highly rewarding career. If you have experience and life skills or have excelled in your field, why not think about becoming a certified teacher and helping large groups of kids achieve great things? Since the pandemic, teaching can be done online too. Perhaps you might like to Teach English Online for a few hours a day from the comfort of your home. It would be an excellent way to get a feel for if this is something you would like to do on a full time basis.

School Counselor:

On the subject of schools, teaching isn’t the only role that can make a difference to people’s lives. School counselors are becoming an important part of the education system, and it’s a well-paid role that will allow you to help students overcome their problems. Personal development and education is such an important part of growing up for kids, yet the sad truth is that many of them struggle. Whether it’s due to problems at home, behavioral issues, or any other matter is irrelevant – but as a school counselor, you will be responsible for helping those kids to make the best of their abilities while working on the things that trouble them.

Medical Assistant:

Let’s move on to health care. It’s an incredibly safe career to get involved in, given that it is entirely recession proof – everyone will always need treatment for illness or, in the case of medical assistants, ambulatory or emergency services. On your medical assistant training, you will learn how to work with patients under the direction of a physician in a setting similar to an emergency room. You will complete paperwork for patients, do things like administer medication, check vital signs, and assist in minor surgeries. In short, you will assisting in emergency services in the vast majority of cases – it’s a highly important role.

care11

And you’ll learn how to work that thing!!

Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN):

A Licensed Practical Nurse’s role is similar to that of a medical assistant, but there are a few key differences. There’s plenty of additional info out there that describes these subtleties, but mainly, you will work under the direction of a Health Care Provider or a Nurse. Just as a medical assistant, you will help with medication and checking vital signs, but you’ll also be responsible for personal hygiene and providing ongoing care to patients. The key difference, however, is the setting that you will work in – most LPNs work in clinics rather than emergency rooms.

Therapist:

There is a therapy for any illness, condition, or injury, so your choice of options here is vast. For those interested in psychology and the mind, becoming a CBT professional could be an attractive option, where you will coach people through their problems by changing the way they think. A counselor or therapist for mental health is also a great option. This could be a private practice or in a hospital or recovery center that features Knightsbridge Mental Health Furniture for each patient’s comfort. For those more interested in treating injuries or other physical conditions, why not consider a physical therapist role? There’s speech therapy to consider, too, where you will be helping people overcome vocal problems. If you prefer working with people long-term, on a one-to-one basis, a therapeutic career could be an ideal choice.

care12

Don’t forget about massage therapists!

Paralegal:

Finally, paralegals are vital to the legal profession, yet remain mostly anonymous. No, you won’t get the stardom and hotshot status of being a prosecuting or defending lawyer – but you will be integral to their success. A paralegal’s role involves supporting lawyers behind the scenes, researching evidence and statements, and ensuring that paperwork is up to date for each case. It’s a field with plenty of prospects, too, and some paralegals even decide to resume their studies and become attorneys.

There is a vast world of caring careers out there, and the above list is just scratching the surface. Do your research, study hard, and end up with the career of your dreams!

Five Satisfying Job Options We Don’t Hear Enough About

Satisfaction. It’s an important word, which means something different for each of us. For some, it’s getting to the next level on that challenging computer game. For others, it’s saving lives on a daily basis.

In all its forms, satisfaction is valid and important. When it comes down to it, it’s often the thing with which we judge our lives. When we look back on each year, we consider how much we have achieved. When we look back on our lives, many of us wonder how much of an impact our actions have had.

It’s no surprise, then, that many people look for jobs which bring bucket loads of satisfaction. Despite care work not being the best-paid job in the world, many people seek it out. If nothing else, that’s a true testament to how important we consider satisfaction in our lives. For some of us, though, the care industry isn’t the right path. It takes a lot of patience and inner strength to get along in a career like this. As such, it’s not going to suit everyone.

But, not wanting to care for others shouldn’t put an end to your dreams of job satisfaction. In fact, there are plenty of other jobs which can bring just as much joy. We may not hear about them often, but that doesn’t mean that they aren’t out there. To give you some idea of your options, we’re going to look at a few here:

Working With Children: What could be more satisfying than having an impact on future generations? While teachers may not get the same credit as, say, doctors, they definitely deserve to. These are the people who are shaping young minds. Many big ideas for the future will be planted in today’s classrooms.

If you don’t fancy the classroom, why not consider social work? Again, you’ll be having an enormous impact on the futures of kids. You’ll get the opportunity to form real bonds with the children you work with. It’s no easy task, though, as you’ll also have to decide when you separate families. To go down this route, you would also need to get the right qualifications. But, with options like online master’s social work courses, there’s no reason why you can’t get going. A job worth caring about is worth working for.

These are by no means the only options when it comes to kids, either. You could also opt for something like youth club supervision or pre-school work. The satisfaction will be there, but you won’t have to return to study to achieve it.

Working With Animals: They say don’t work with children or animals, and we’ve broken both of those rules already. But, if you have a soft spot for four-legged friends, an animal option could be the career for you. In many ways, this is like a care job. If anything, the satisfaction levels could be higher because fewer people consider it.

Again, there are a few different options. At the extreme end of the scale, you could become a vet. Bear in mind, though, that veterinary studies are extensive and will take a long time to complete. As an excellent alternative, you could always work as a veterinary receptionist. You’ll still get the chance to give advice and make a difference, but you don’t need qualifications to do so. If you have a desire to work with animals, search for veterinarian jobs near you to get your career started.

Or, you could opt to work in a rescue center. These jobs are often hard to come by, but making a difference to unwanted animals is about as good as it gets. If you manage to work your way to the top, you’ll be going into some nasty situations. There’s no denying that it can be traumatic, but you’ll be able to remove animals by working with the police. A good way to start would be to volunteer. This in itself will help your quest, and, if they like what they see, big things may follow.

Last, but by no means least, you could work as a conservationist in a zoo. Here, you’ll be working hard to breed and reintroduce animals into the wild. Not only does this help the animals themselves, but also the planet as a whole. Go get ‘em, tiger!

Get Artsy: How about trying your hand at an artistic pursuit? Artists often get a bad rep and, let’s be honest; it’s one of the hardest careers to make a go in. But, the satisfaction stakes here are high, because many of us measure our overall satisfaction based on the mark we leave. And, nothing’s quite so good at making a mark as art in all of its forms.

Of course, your artistic pursuit can be whatever you want it to be. Have you been songwriting for years in private? Do you have a secret skill with paint that no one’s seen since school? Whatever your strength, it’s time to take it out of the closet. The majority of us have some creative outlet we could put to use and there’s no better time than the present to use it!

Open A Restaurant: Who would have thought that a restaurant would find its way onto the most satisfying jobs list? We did, which is why it’s here! Owning a restaurant may not be up there with saving lives. But, its place on this list is well deserved and here’s why:

Life is stressful. Work gets on top of us, and there’s rarely a respite. Even when we’re at home, we’re often thinking about what we need to do the next day. It never ends. Unless you don’t head home after work. You get dressed up and go out to eat. Finally, you can enjoy yourself and relax. There’s no worries, no pressures, and best of all, no washing up! If we didn’t have restaurants to escape to, the world would be a much darker place. We joke, but it’s true. Everyone needs an escape and someone needs to create it. Let that person be you by opening up a restaurant.

In a way, the artistic aspect comes into play here, too. Because it’s not just enough to open any old space and serve food. You need to leave your mark by creating a beautiful place to spend time in. You’ll need to get everything right, from the decor to the ambience and the food. Your restaurant could provide a new favorite spot for customers and it is up to you to keep it that way. You will want an excellent, welcoming, and well trained staff as well as making the building accessible to everyone. And, of course, it is important to have the right protection like Vermont Restaurant Insurance (or your local area) should something go wrong. The right insurance can give true peace of mind so be sure to explore your options carefully.

Reasonable Real Estate: When you think about it, it’s baffling that real-estate doesn’t appear on more satisfying jobs lists. What could be better than knowing you’ve put roofs over people’s heads when they needed them most? You may not be restarting their heart with your bare hands, but you’re ensuring that they have a high quality of life. At least, you could be.

Unlike the other jobs mentioned, the satisfaction involved depends completely on you. If you become a bad landlord, you won’t see the rewards. You won’t be able to rest easy if you’re overcharging or failing to fix issues. In fact, the plan will backfire in a major way. Sure, you’ll make more money. But satisfaction isn’t about money, remember?

Instead, you need to do things right. Offer as reasonable a price as possible so that you give more people a chance to get a place. Make sure that you’re a reliable contact, by answering any queries as soon as humanly possible. And, make sure to pay for repairs the moment they need doing. It’s all simple stuff and that’s all it takes to make real-estate a satisfying option. Give it a go and see where it gets you!

So, there are a few of your options. As you can see, they all have their benefits, even if you wouldn’t have assumed them to be satisfying. And these aren’t the only unexpectedly satisfying careers. You can make a difference in any number of ways if you know how!

Who Is Really Looking After Your Kids? Get Peace of Mind, and Find Safe Childcare

Sometimes in life, we have to leave our children in the care of others. Maybe it’s due to work commitments, because of their extracurricular activities and hobbies, or perhaps we just need a break. Parenting is busy and stressful, sometimes you just need a nice date night with your partner away from the kids to keep the spark alive and claw back a bit of sanity! But when our children are so precious, as parents we need to be vigilant about their caretakers. Schools require teachers to have thorough checks done, but not all childcare establishments do, so you have to be careful. Here are some of the ways that you can ensure your child is safe when they’re being looked after by others:

Do a Background Check: When it comes to your kids, you can never be too careful. Doing a background check on anyone who cares for your kids without you there can give you peace of mind. You’re able to pull up past information about people from convicted crimes and warnings to cases that were dropped in court. You can get background checking done from an Expert Private Investigator in Edinburgh – Bondrees.com if you are considering a new childcare provider. While it’s not completely foolproof, a clean record can help if you don’t know the person well.

Of course, always use common sense and good judgment, but if you just need to know their background to be sure, then this is one way to go about it. Whether it’s a nanny, babysitter, an ex’s new partner, or anyone else who is around you children- it’s always good to be cautious. You could click here for free warrant checks online if this is something that you would benefit from.

Ask About Medical Training: If you leave your children at a daycare, babysitter’s house, or with a nanny- ask about what medical training they have had. Do they know first aid, and can they apply it to children? Don’t feel shy about asking to see certificates for proof. Those who have nothing to hide won’t mind showing you. The same applies to food safety. To avoid illnesses and food poisoning, those looking after children and preparing food for them should have a good knowledge of kitchen safety and hygiene.

Request References: Good references will show you that the person looking after your children is competent and good at their job, as well as has prior experience in child care. If you’re hiring a nanny, for example, you will want to choose the most qualified candidate, and past experience is a great way to judge how well they will do when they work for you.

Use a Nanny Cam: In most places in the US it’s completely legal to use surveillance equipment in your home, without the consent of the person you’re recording. It’s illegal to record in areas where people have a reasonable expectation of privacy however, so it goes without saying that bathroom areas are off limits but also your live-in nanny or au-pair’s bedroom. But for use elsewhere in the home, a nanny cam can be useful if you want to keep tabs on what’s going on.
