A Trip To The County Fair Pt. 2

A Trip To The County Fair Pt. 2

Hello!!! Johnny and I attended the Portage County Randolph Fair this past Tuesday and it was a hoot. It was my very first county fair and I am so glad that I got to experience it with my main squeeze! What made this date night even cooler was that Johnny and his parents would attend this particular fair every year in his youth. He was very pleased to see that the Grampa Cratchet Puppet Show was still going strong all of these years later!! Check out some pics from our outing and let’s discuss:

image_50461953(5)image_50732801(2)image_50728705(2)image_50440961(9)image_50473217(4)image_50755329(6)image_50734081(5)image_50423297(4)image_50451969(7)image_50349825(1)image_50743041(1)image_50441729(6)image_50422273(6)image_50446593(4)

^^^ The sculptures in the last two pictures are made entirely out of tires!!

There was so much to do and see at the county fair and I was fine with letting Johnny lead the way – this was not his first rodeo! We began our evening by hitching a ride on a tractor from the parking lot to the fairgrounds. Once we were there, we were surrounded by animals everywhere! From cows and pigs to goats, horses, and adorable baby chicks there was livestock for days. I was really disappointed that all of the bunnies went home for the day, but Johnny told me I couldn’t bring Mel and P home a brother or sister so I guess it was for the best lol.

After we visited all of the animals, we were ready to get some food and I couldn’t wait. However, looking back now – I wish I did! As we made our way through tons of vendor booths, we finally saw lemonade and food stands. Having never been to a county fair before, I assumed that what we saw was it. So, we stocked up on fresh squeezed lemonade, a burger for Johnny, nachos, and fries and went to the seating area for the Grampa Cratchet Puppet Show to eat. After we were done, you could have knocked me over with a feather when we turned the corner from the stands we got food from and I saw an endless array of more food! This is why we are going to Oktoberfest in Cuyahoga Falls next month to get everything we missed out on at the fair.

The puppet show was, admittedly, very weird haha. It was like the children’s version of Crank Yankers if anyone remembers that show? It was basically just a bunch of puppets doing silly things and teaching valuable lessons like following instructions, which was what our show was about. It was pretty funny, but Johnny and I were ready to go after five minutes. I’m just really glad we got to see some of it because I was like “wtf?” when Johnny first told me about it and my sentiments remain the same!

The main event of the night was a demolition derby and we still had time to kill before we took our seats in the stands. We weren’t interested in any of the rides, but I had never played a carnival game before so we did that next. Johnny gave us a twenty dollar limit to play with and I already knew exactly what I wanted to win – a stuffed corndog that I saw a little boy carrying earlier. We found a game that had the plushie as a prize and I am proud to say that we DOMINATED!! We had to shoot a water gun at a target to fill up a balloon and make it pop. Thanks to our dates to the shooting range, we were a force to be reckoned with and I was so happy to claim my corndog. 😀

image_50430209(7)image_50439681(5)

^^^ It’s so cute!

Our final stop of the night was at the demolition derby and we were crunched for time. At this point, it was going on seven thirty and we still had to make a thirty-five minute drive home. We were expecting for the derby to start with the big cars right from the jump and that wasn’t the case. The derby opened with the pee-wee league of five or so year olds in their souped up Barbie jeeps and Hot Wheels trucks. It was so cute lol. We stuck around for a bit longer until it was safe to say that the kiddos were not going to get out of the gridlock they created. Our other future plan is to find another demolition derby to attend when we don’t have to get up for work the next morning!

Our Trip To The County Fair ended perfectly because we arrived at the entrance just in time to catch a tractor back to our parking spot. We had an absolute blast! Tune in tomorrow for my OOTD and *gasp* seeing me in blue jeans for the first time! 😮

What is your favorite attraction at the fair? What is your favorite carnival game to play? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

A Trip To The County Fair

Standard
A Trip To The County Fair

Hello!!! One of my little quirks that Johnny has never wrapped his head around is that I have never been to a county fair. In my defense, it makes the utmost sense. My parents didn’t trust the carnival rides and we have lots of strict vegetarians in my family so we avoided the buying and selling of livestock. This was so normal to me that I didn’t really realize everyone else has been to a county fair! So, when Johnny found out that the fair he attended in his youth was going on this past week, we had to go. Even if it was on a work night!

image_50458625(10)image_50459649(9)image_50426881(7)image_50772225image_50430209(7)image_50439681(5)

^^^ Yes, Johnny did wear that shirt during our wedding!

Once I returned from work on Tuesday, it was off to the Portage County Randolph Fair. Johnny ordered our tickets ahead of time as well as tickets to a demolition derby (Which is an event I have also never attended!). I had a hunch of what the fair would be like from Johnny’s musings and it was exactly what I expected. Lol, there were animals, more than enough food to feed a small country, games, and rides. Between all of the sights, smells, and people it was total sensory overload for the first ten or so minutes!

I will be discussing more of what we did at the fair along with lots of pictures tomorrow. You can also peep my OOTD and bloopers coming up soon too! What I will say in this post, is that I love all of the new experiences that Johnny and I have together. From going to the shooting range to attending a county fair, it is always something exciting when we go on a date. When we went to the fair, everything was new. I played my first carnival game, ate my first fair food, and was in a situation I never thought I would be in. And it was fun! 😀

Our outing to the Portage County Randolph Fair was a novelty in so many ways, but mainly it was SO different being out on a work night! I truly can’t remember the last time we did something during the week day – it was definitely before we started living together. Even though we were dead tired the following day, it was beyond worth it. The county fair might not be my favorite place in the world, but I was there with my favorite guy and that made it the best. ❤

Because I have never been to an Oktoberfest, that is next on our agenda and we have a grand plan. Do a drop in, get food, and go home lol. Here’s to brand new experiences and be sure to tune in for more on the county fair!

Have you ever attended a county fair before? What was your favorite/least favorite thing about it? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

Mental Health Day

Mental Health Day

Hello!! This past Monday, I enjoyed my first mental health day in I don’t know how long. Granted, it wasn’t necessarily my choice but it still counts lol. This weekend, I was in a crazy freak accident – no one was hurt, but my car was so I was out of commission to get to work anyways. I would have loved to have had a mental health day under different circumstances, but I guess I’ll take what I can get? Haha and I used my time off well!

On Monday, I slept in until… SIX AM!!! It was great and definitely beats my normal wake up time around 4:30. Melvin and Penelope weren’t thrilled to have postponed their super early morning outing, but once I was up they got to hang out outside of their hutch almost all day. I also was able to get my car set up for its repairs because who knew auto body shops were closed on the weekend? Not me and it was a big relief to get all of that sorted. Also, I took my car to a mom and pop shop and the owner was just adorable. 🙂

Once I was home from my errands, I got to work doing lots of cleaning and that felt fantastic. When my life was really crazy, it was hard to find the time or energy to do a good deep cleaning of the apartment. I got to do that and more with my day off and I felt so accomplished and proud of my efforts. Maybe I needed this day for me more than I realized because I knew it would be nice to clean, but I didn’t appreciate how nice until I proudly surveyed a sparkling space.

After my chores were done, I completed the last item on my agenda which was finishing my Independent Provider annual training. Every year, we must do eight hours of additional online training to maintain our certification. I was on hour six of mine so I didn’t have too much left to do, but it was cool to not have to do it once I was home from work. I also don’t mind the online training at all because they’re always super interesting and it’s fun to learn something new!

Once all of my checklist for my day off was accounted for, I got to spend the rest of my afternoon FaceTiming with my bestie, Kate, of Live In The Nautical. It was the perfect way to end my Mental Health Day. If you are feeling like you need a day for you too, then I can’t encourage an MHD enough. We all need one from time to time and it’s important to listen to what your mind and body needs!

How do you like to spend a day off? When was your last mental health day? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

4 Year Celebration!!!

Hello!!!! lifewithlilred has been going strong since 2014! That’s almost a decade of everyone’s favorite lil redhead in the blogosphere and it is something that I am very proud of. Several years back, I decided that I wanted my page to have fresh content daily and I have stuck with it. Huge shout out to being able to schedule posts because that definitely helps the cause! This past weekend, I ran my calculations because I am currently on day 1,474 of daily content which makes….

An over four year streak!!!!!!

I knew that I was having a good run with publishing every day on lifewithlilred, but I had no idea that it was that good. Writing almost every morning feels so natural to me that it’s something that I don’t think too much about anymore. Knowing that over four years ago, I set a goal and I have been achieving it for that long feels awesome. It also makes me even more dedicated to continuing the quest for daily content because how could I mess up a streak like that?! That would suck lol.

Despite such a lengthy tenure in the blogosphere, I still get writer’s block and feel uninspired from time to time too. However, having so many amazing friends that I have made tuning in serves as the best inspiration of all. If it wasn’t for all of these fantastic friends and readers alike, I think I would have given up on daily content a long time ago. So, thank you all for helping me achieve my goal. I love you!! ❤

What are some of your blogging goals? What is your favorite thing about your blog? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

Battling Water Damage: How To Keep Your Home Dry

Battling Water Damage: How To Keep Your Home Dry

Let’s address something that may go undetected in your home until it’s too late: water damage. It is much easier to prevent water damage than to do Water Damage Restoration, but it can be done. Let’s look at some tips to keep your abode dry and safe for all of its inhabitants:

Gutters are rain guards:

Imagine gutters as raincoats for your home; they protect it from getting wet in a downpour and should always remain clear of debris to ensure water runs freely. Make a habit of regularly clearing away leaves and twigs from them – either using a gutter scoop or garden trowel to do it; for best results, use both. For damaged or leaky gutters use gutter sealant. Cleaning gutters or hiring someone to do so can be a hassle. However, the process of water mitigation is far more difficult and time consuming. Gutters are a safeguard for your home so clean and care for them accordingly.

Secure it ASAP:

Seal all potential gaps where water could leak in around windows and doors by applying caulk around them; cracked caulk acts like an open drawbridge, so to maintain optimal performance, refresh it frequently with fresh beads of caulk when necessary; just one bead could help defend against water’s relentless attack!

Sealing gaps is a great form of defense for your home, but it’s not the solution for everything. For more extensive water damage, restoration professionals like Protegrity Restoration or a similar company in your area will need to be called in. Make sure they are well reviewed so the job will get done properly.

Be shower savvy:

Your bathroom might seem peaceful, but it can also be an easy source of leaks and flooding. Your shower curtain serves as the first line of defense against this potential disaster; be sure it remains functional at all times; moldy or torn curtains act like breached castle walls that allow water to invade – change them regularly to ensure water doesn’t seep into your healthy home!

Improve your lawn, safeguard your castle:

Your lawn is more than a pretty face – it serves an invaluable purpose in safeguarding your home’s foundation! Water should flow away from the foundation so make sure your yard slopes away from it; water is meant to work for us rather than against us! If your backyard resembles a quagmire full of puddles, consider grading to channel away water via drainage channels to help prevent water damage to your home.

Sump pumps are your home’s bodyguard:

Sump pumps are your basement’s go-to protection when water enters through any openings in its perimeter walls or drainpipe. Make sure it’s operational, with clean drain pipes; consider it like having its superhero ready when trouble arises! Regardless of if you have a sump pump or not, basements can be highly susceptible to water damage and can prove disastrous for your home. Should you notice any tell tale signs of water damage, Visit Water Damage Restoration Boston (or a similar company in your local area) to assess the scene and provide a solution. Tackling a problem when it first arises will save you a lot of time and money in the long run.

DIY magic: concealment in action:

Are your walls suffering from water damage and looking like abstract art? No worries; just grab some paint to cover up these mistakes. A fresh coat of paint could act like cosmetic surgery to erase any signs of water damage in your home and restore its aesthetic value. This is an easy DIY fix and is the best case scenario when it comes to water damage. However, some aspects of repair will not be so simple and requires the assistance of a professional team. If there is an issue beyond your skill set, enter a search for “Water damage restoration service in San Antonio, TX” (or your local area) to get the job done right and better protect your home.

Take care of your wood:

Your wooden structures in the home require care TLC. Apply water-resistant finishes on decks, fences, and wooden siding in order to ward off moisture seepage.

Be encouraged; water damage doesn’t need to be the end all be all. With these simple strategies, water damage should no longer threaten to devastate your home!

Lil Red’s Book Club: 48 Clues Into The Disappearance Of My Sister By Joyce Carol Oates Edition

Lil Red’s Book Club: 48 Clues Into The Disappearance Of My Sister By Joyce Carol Oates Edition

Hello!!! The last few books that we reviewed during Lil Red’s Book Club were massive duds. I didn’t have much hope for 48 Clues Into The Disappearance Of My Sister by Joyce Carol Oates because I was on such an unlucky streak. However, this book exceeded my expectations and then some. It was EXCELLENT and I devoured it in just three sittings. Without giving away any spoilers, as always, we are going to discuss this mystery further. Before we begin, a trigger warning will be placed for violence, disturbing content, and mental illness. Let’s get to it:

image_50407169(6)

Homely Georgene (G) is nothing like her older sister, Marguerite (M). M is a successful sculptor, she’s beautiful, and has a lust for life. G, on the other hand, is bitter towards everything as she grew up in the shadow of the prettier, more popular sister. April 11th, 1991 is just an ordinary day. M is due to teach at a local college and G will be manning the desk at the post office. Then, G will return to the Tudor mansion she lives in with her father and M to find that her sister is not home.

Concern is immediate as M is nothing if not responsible and prompt. She would never miss classes and scheduled meetings without calling in advance and her colleagues and students are worried from the jump. By the following day, M is still not back and is officially a “missing person”. Leads are scarce with nothing but the path of her heeled boots through the woods to go off of that cut off once a road appears. M has seemingly disappeared without a trace.

Perhaps, the police officers and detectives would have had more to explore if G hadn’t removed M’s calendar and notebooks from her room before their home was searched. As the days since M has gone missing turn to weeks and weeks turn to months, G is even more sick of M than she was when she was still there. Everything is constantly “M, M, M,” even though G is the only remaining daughter. Even in M’s absence, she still is more loved than G.

M and G’s father refuses to give up the hope that M will return one day and goes as far as to hire a very expensive Private Investigator. Meanwhile, G follows other leads like M’s strange colleague at the college, Elke. Elke has all but planted himself into the investigation by alluding that he knows M’s secrets and potentially her whereabouts. But, is Elke just a convenient pawn to play with during a coverup? Did M really just disappear into thin air? That’s for the reader to decide!

48 Clues Into The Disappearance Of My Sister was told entirely from G’s perspective and it was wild. G is so clearly mentally disturbed and is constantly threatening people who upset her with strangulation. It is also hinted that she suffered a mental breakdown in the past after her mother’s death. I honestly had no idea what G was going to do or say next and it kept me turning the page ravenously.

Was G a likeable narrator? No. Not at all. I seriously couldn’t stand her. She was mean and bitter to the point of being cruel. She took delight in other people’s despair and it was almost hard to read. Despite G being a horrible person, Joyce Carol Oates’ writing style kept the book moving forward beautifully. It would have been easy to discard this book fairly quickly because of who G is, but I wouldn’t have dreamed of it because it was so well written. I will definitely be reading more from this author!

If you are a fan of creepy mysteries, then I cannot recommend 48 Clues Into The Disappearance Of My Sister enough. My best advice is to keep an open mind while you read so you can come to a conclusion that you are satisfied with. I will be awarding this book with the coveted ten out of ten stars!

What is your favorite Joyce Carol Oates book? What is your opinion on this book if you have read it? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

Note that in the following section, I will share who I feel is responsible for M’s disappearance. 48 Clues Into The Disappearance Of My Sister never reveals a straight answer. If you are interested in reading this book, please skip over this!

Because it was up to the reader to solve the mystery of M’s disappearance, I am okay with sharing my opinion even though it is, technically, a spoiler. I am 150% positive that G killed her sister and this entire book seemed like her covering up rather than searching for clues. There are SO many things that G lets slip throughout the book that come up suddenly and aren’t brought up again. However, each and every one of these instances showed guilt to me and I can’t think of any reason why it wasn’t her.

I would definitely consider all of the potential suspects in this book to be Red Herrings. There is not one piece of evidence throughout the book that led me to believe that anyone else could be guilty. I also find it hard to comprehend why M, whose success in the art world has only just begun, would willingly walk away from the life she built. After finishing this book, I wondered if I had my blinders on so much that I was unwilling to accept another solution. However, if you really read it, it will tell you everything you need to know to solve the case.

Steps Of Growth: Responsibility & Life’s Challenges

Steps Of Growth: Responsibility & Life’s Challenges

Raise your hand if you’ve ever been confronted with the question: “How can we teach our lovely little ones about responsibility?” Now, raise your other hand if life’s unpredictable challenges make you feel like you’re herding cats. Yep, thought so. Both hands up in the air! Here’s a little secret: there’s no one-size-fits-all guide to this. But there are a few things that might help you teach your kiddos about responsibility and the art of embracing the challenges life sometimes throws at you:

Plant A Garden And Watch It Grow:

Gardening, apart from being therapeutic, can be an amazing teaching tool to allow your kids to understand that even the littlest flowers need love, care, and patience. Let your little one pick a plant or flower they’d like to grow. Let them water it, take care of it, and patiently watch it bloom. Through this, they learn that consistency, responsibility, and love can lead to beautiful results. And when pests come along or when the weather isn’t ideal, they will learn to understand that challenges are natural parts of life.

Add A Little Twist To Everyday Chores:

Ah, chores! The word itself probably makes your kids want to run for the hills. So how about creating a chore chart that’s actually fun? Add some glitter, stickers, and quirky tasks. Muddle the regular chores like tidying up toys or setting the table with something fun, like the floor is lava or last one to tidy up is a rotten egg. This way, while they’re diving into whimsical adventures, they’re also learning the art of daily responsibility.

Share Stories From Your Book Of Life:

We all love a little story. And children even more so – they adore stories, especially real ones that involve the people (or characters) they actually know. Share tales from your family’s past, about a time when you overcame challenges or how you learned from mistakes you once made. You might think these anecdotes are mundane, but for young ears, they’re exciting tales of adventure and learning.

Pass On A Job Of Personal Responsibility:

You might be tempted to protect your little ones from the big, vast world out there, but every once in a while, you need to trust them with just a smidge more responsibility. Maybe it’s letting them decide the menu for the family picnic, taking care of a new puppy companion, or even managing their pocket money without being told they’re wasting it on something they don’t need. These small steps of trust can work wonders in teaching them about the responsibilities of life. And don’t worry if they stumble a bit. Those mini missteps? They’re just stepping stones towards their remarkable journey of growth and understanding.

Lastly, remember to shower your kiddos with loads of love and encouragement even when it feels tough to do so because you’re frustrated by your circumstances. Let them know that every challenge they face is an opportunity to grow!

New Tor’s Prints Chopping Board

Hello!!! Today, we are going to check out the last purchase I made at the Punk Rock Flea Market! Then, keep it posted for a brand new Bath Bomb Blitz once I get around to using the super cute bath bomb that Johnny got for me. 🙂 When I shop, I only buy the things that I feel like I have to have as soon as I see it. What’s the point of spending money on something that you don’t absolutely love? This chopping board by Tor’s Prints definitely fell under that category and I think you can all understand why. That is, if you are familiar with the Papa Roach song “Last Resort” lol. Take a look:

image_50431233(4)

The Tor’s Prints booth had all kinds of cool goodies like keychains, stickers, and earrings. I was most enamored, however, by the custom chopping boards. When my eyes locked in on the Papa Roach inspired board and I learned that its price was only ten dollars, it was as good as mine. Johnny and I thought it was the funniest thing and it will also come in very handy because my current chopping board sucks. Then again, it’s such a hoot that I might just keep it on display on a knick knack shelf. 😀

I love everything that I purchased from the Punk Rock Flea Market, but the chopping board is my favorite. It was so neat to shop around because every booth had something completely one of a kind. While TJMaxx will always be my happy place, you will never find anything like the stuff at the market there! This was such an awesome event to attend and Johnny and I have a lot more plans in the works… Stay tuned on lifewithlilred for when your fave Elder Emo couple hits up the county fair lolol.

You can shop Tor’s Prints on Etsy and follow all of the latest and greatest on Facebook too. And, as always, support your local artists!! ❤

Where is your shopping happy place? Have you ever been to a county fair? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

New Punk N Junk Earrings

Hello!! The Punk Rock Flea Market that Johnny and I went to was freaking awesome! We were blown away by the talent of the local artists and makers peddling their wares and returned home with a bagful of goodies. The first purchase that I made at the flea market was actually from one of the first vendors that we visited called Punk N Junk. They had the most adorable earrings and I wanted all of them! But, I exercised self restraint and walked away with these two:

image_50456321(8)image_50439681(4)

These earrings actually tell a funny tale of mine and Johnny’s morning before going to the flea market. I couldn’t find my black parasol to save my own life and I was getting SO frustrated. TBH, my mental health feels like it’s hanging by a thread sometimes, which is why I am starting therapy this Wednesday. Because I am very sensitive at this current juncture, I cried a little bit about my missing parasol because everything just seems overwhelming to me. Then, Johnny found it in his car of all places and all was right with the world.

After my mini freak out, I had one of my “ecigs” AKA Emergency Cigarettes on our way to the market. Every week or so, I’ll have a real cigarette and that was definitely the time I needed one. So, when I saw the Crybaby earrings at the Punk N Junk stand, I jokingly told Johnny that was me! Then, I saw the cigarette ones and said that that was also me lol. These two earrings literally summed up the twenty minutes before we went to the event and it gave us a huge laugh. Even when Johnny or I are feeling frazzled, we always find a way to end up laughing at the end of it!

You can visit Punk N Junk’s Etsy page here and give them a follow on Instagram @punknjunkk. Thank you for the fab earrings – I love them! ❤

Who is your favorite local artist? What makes you feel better after something upsetting? Shopping always does the trick for me lol! I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

Bath & Body Works Halloween Scents Pt. 3

Bath & Body Works Halloween Scents Pt. 3

Hello!! Other than purchasing hand soaps from Bath & Body Works and shopping the occasional Semi-Annual Sale, I really don’t buy anything from there. The remainder of my B&BW stash comes from freebie coupons that get sent out monthly or bimonthly. Because of rarely spending money when I visit the store, it has taken a long time to rack up points for their rewards program. After my Halloween hand soap haul, I finally got a free full size product reward and stopped by to cash it in.

I thought I bought all of the Halloween scents in hand soap form, but I was mistaken. There are actually two other fragrances that I missed – Everlasting Magic and Midnight Spell. Midnight Spell was a massive dud, but I LOVED Everlasting Magic, so I used my rewards points for a body cream:

image_50460673(9)

Everlasting Magic is one of my favorite Halloween scents from B&BW. It’s not as good as Purrfect Pumpkin, but I actually think I might like it more than Vampire Blood. That’s really saying something! Everlasting Magic offers notes of “bejeweled berries, phantom petals, and magic musk”. Normally, I am not a fan of musky fragrances – this one, however, was fine because I really couldn’t smell it! To me, it smelled like rich plum and blackberries with the softest touch of floral. Also, can we talk about how pretty the packaging is?!

As always, I am a huge fan of the Body Cream from B&BW so I was really happy to snag it for free. While I will forever be partial to The Body Shop products, this cream is a close second. With a shea butter base and hyaluronic acid, it is so hydrating and nourishing. My skin feels and looks soft after every use and I think it is one of the best products that B&BW carries. I would definitely recommend getting a bottle for yourself the next time you go shopping! In Everlasting Magic, perhaps? 😀

There were several Halloween scents from B&BW that I didn’t care for at all and I feel like Everlasting Magic was a redemption in that regard. Here’s to waiting another year plus for my next free product reward lol!

What is your favorite B&BW Halloween scent? What is your favorite product they carry? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah
