Q & A:

If you could have dinner with anyone, living or deceased, who would it be? I always find this question difficult to answer, because I don’t have a set in stone reply. Right now, I’m on a huge Hunger Games kick so probably Jennifer Lawrence.

If you were a pro-wrestler, what would your theme song be? Lunchbox by Marilyn Manson, for sure.

If you could have any job, what would it be? I would actually love to be a Developmental Pediatrician like my mom, but I don’t want to be in school for forever!

What is at the top of your bucket list? To explore Europe in its entirety.

What’s your favorite color and why? Black, because it’s slimming, it goes with everything, and I like it.

What were your top three favorite movies from when you were a kid? Oooooh…. I would say that The Little Mermaid, Shrek, and FRAGGLEHOUSE ROCK (lol) were my childhood jams if memory serves me correctly.

What song evokes the most emotion from you? Beautiful Day by U2.

What cartoon character do you most identify with? None. I don’t do cartoons.

What is the last thing you thought of before bed last night? Probably that I was full because I ate hella pita bread and spinach dip before bed haha.

What is your biggest fear? Not telling.

What does ” The Sunshine Award” mean to you? That you brighten someone’s day enough for them to nominate you, which is really special.

Hello!!! Today is a wonderful day for planet Earth, because it’s my 24th birthday! Although I’m not too keen on getting older, birthdays are still a time for celebration – and I do love celebrating myself. 😀 These past few years have been a royal shit show for yours truly so, even though going into a new year is scary, I am looking forward to things *hopefully* going up from here!

Hi everyone! A few months ago I filled out a really fun Beauty Tag that I shared with all of you. Recently, my friend Anushka over at Vogue & Vibes tagged me in the same questionnaire to complete. The post was such a blast to do and it had some really good questions in it, so I am going to repost my original Q & A to reintroduce you guys to it and maybe you’ll want to fill it out for yourself! Here it is, and thanks again to Anushka for tagging me!

Q & A:

1. Do you remember your first makeup item?

It’s not exactly a makeup but I had hella LipSmackers chapstick in my youth.

2. Describe your perfect mascara. Have you found one that fits your specifications?

I am obsessed with Too Faced Better Than Sex mascara. It’s the jam.

3. What kind of coverage do you prefer from a foundation?

I don’t wear foundation. I never have.

4. Favorite high end brand?

I wouldn’t necessarily say I have a favorite, because I don’t wear a lot of high end products.

5. What cosmetics brands have you always wanted to try but still haven’t?

None that I can think of.

6. Favorite drugstore brand?

NYX!!

7. Do you wear false lashes?

No, I’ve actually never tried them, either. They seem like such a pain to get on!!

8. Is there any kind of makeup you can’t leave the house without?

Nope, I feel pretty okay about leaving the house with a fresh face.

9. What is your most cherished beauty product?

My favorite NYX red lipstick.

10. How often do you shop for makeup? Do you like to pick up an item here and there, or get lots of goodies at once?

I pick up things as I need them, so maybe once every few months.

11. Do you have a “beauty budget” or do you spend freely?

I spend freely. I don’t spend money unless I’m comfortable paying for whatever it is, though.

12. Do you utilize coupons, reward cards, and sales when you shop for cosmetics?

HELL YEAH! I’m all about saving money, so I love utilizing anything that can help me do that.

13. What type of product do you buy the most of?

I feel like I purchase skin care more regularly than makeup, so I’m going to say moisturizer.

14. Is there a brand you absolutely can’t stand?

Not that I can think of.

15. Do you avoid certain ingredients in cosmetics, like parabens or sulfates?

As long as the product is cruelty free, then I’m good.

16. Do you have a favorite place to shop for makeup?

Target, lol.

17. Do you like trying new skin care products or do you keep a certain routine?

I do have my staple skin care products that I will use for all eternity, but that doesn’t mean that I don’t like experimenting if I find a good deal or something new that I’d like to try.

18. Favorite bath and body brand?

The Body Shop.

19. If you could only buy from one brand, which brand would you choose?

The Body Shop, for sure. They’re a one stop shop and I use a lot of their products, anyway.

20. What brand do you think has the best packaging?

Hmm… I really don’t know.

21. Which celebrity always has great makeup?

It’s hard to say, because I don’t really pay attention.

22. Do you belong to any online makeup communities?

No.

23. Favorite beauty gurus:

I deeply admire the makeup skills behind the local drag queens in my neck of the woods.

24. Do you like multi-functional products like lip and cheek stains?

No. I’d prefer separate items.

25. Are you clumsy in putting on makeup?

I used to be, but not too much any more. Only if I’m really tired am I clumsy. Today, for example, I accidentally spilled one of my facial oils in a sleepy stupor. I was so pissed!

26. Do you use makeup base/primer for the eyes?

Nope. The less products that I use, the better.

27. How many hair products do you use on a typical day?

I only wash my hair once a month, when I’m redyeing it. I wouldn’t even call it washing, because I just condition it with the product that comes in the box kit. So I don’t own any shampoo or conditioner. However, when I’m straightening my hair I do use heat protecting spray and styling oil.

28. What do you apply first, concealer or foundation?

Neither, because I don’t use them.

29. Would you ever consider taking makeup classes?

Nah.

30. What do you love about makeup?

I love that it showcases the personality behind the person wearing it.

May Funky Time Jams

May Funky Time Jams

Hiii everyone and TGIF! With May finally here (And hopefully warmer weather, too!), it is time to share what I’ve been playing in the Little Red Love Machine as I make my way throughout my day. And, yes, a little Jesus Christ Superstar is definitely thrown in there for good measure. Take a look:

In June, I am lucky enough to be able to see Jack White, AWOLNATION, and Cold War Kids at X Fest in Pennsylvania and I am so excited that I can’t even begin to describe it. So, of course I had to give them a little shout out on this month’s Funky Time Jams. Oh yeah, and Jesus Christ Superstar, lol. Ever since the wonderful live performance of the musical on Easter, I have been OBSESSED. JCSS has always been one of my favorite musicals and my love for it was completely rekindled after that stellar Easter show. So, yes, having one of my favorite songs on here from that musical was a must for this month, too!

8,000 Followers Jamboree

8,000 Followers Jamboree

Hi everyone and happy Hump Day! It has been an exciting week here on lifewithlilred, because I’ve finally crossed the 8,000 followers threshold. I have to say, I am so pleased with this progress, because I had a 1,000 follower gain in four short months. That’s huge! My blog is something that brings me so much joy, and to see the fruits of my labor paying off is just a sweet added bonus to the happiness that I get from writing daily.

Thank you so much to every single one of you that has clicked that follow button on my website – I wouldn’t have been able to reach this milestone without you! With such amazing readers and friends, the 2,000 follower gap to 10,000 doesn’t seem that far away at all. Here’s to all of you, with my most sincere thanks!! Much love. -Sarah

Pacer Progress

Hi everyone! Roughly fifty days ago, I downloaded the Pacer pedometer app on my iPod. Since then, I have been dedicated to reaching 10,000 steps or more every day. Of course, this hasn’t always been possible, but I’ve been trying my best and I’m happy to say that I’m still motivated even after close to two months.

On the app, you can see insights into your progress each day or over a span of time. I only just discovered the page where you can see your steps since downloading the app, and I was really happy with what I saw:

  • Total Steps: 382,550
  • Total Calories: 9,502
  • Total Active Hours: 58
  • Miles Traveled: 127

(I am also prewriting this so my stats are higher than this by four days!)

It’s easy to feel like 10,000 steps a day is nothing. But, when it was put into perspective of  just how many miles I walked or how long I was active for, it makes a big difference. I am hoping to reach at least one million steps by the end of summer and I know that with my motivation to keep making progress, my goal is more than achievable.

Helloooo! Similarly to the Beauty Scenario Tag that I just did, I found the Get To Know Me Tag while I was browsing through my WordPress newsfeed. I landed upon Petya’s page at BeautyWithP, where she had completed the post. It looked like fun and, because FOMO, I wanted in. Check it out and get to know some more factoids about your favorite Lil Red:

1. What’s your full name? Sarah Renee Mushenheim (The most basic name ever lol)
2. What does your name mean? Sarah means “princess” and Renee means “reborn” or “born again”. And Mushenheim means whatever you want it to mean.
3. Are you named after anyone? Since Renee is a derivative of Irene, my middle name was for my Auntie Irene.
4. What’s your zodiac sign? Gemini
5. Do you believe in astrology? Yep!
6. What do you like about yourself? I’m sometimes funny and I’m smart.
7. What do you dislike about yourself? I get really angry sometimes and say things I don’t mean.
8. When was the last time you cried? A couple of days ago.
9. If you were another person, would you be a friend of yourself? Sure!
10. Do you use sarcasm a lot? It’s one of my many talents.
11. What’s the first thing you notice about people? Their teeth.

37. Do you have any tattoos? Yep, one on my side, three on my arms, and four on my back. I can’t wait to get more!
38. What’s the thing you can’t leave the house without? My phone, my iPod for driving tunes, and my GPS if I’m going somewhere unfamiliar.
39. Do you believe ignorance is bliss? Of course.
40. What’s your biggest fear? Definitely death of a loved one.

42. Have you ever met any celebrities? I met Hawthorne Heights back in my teens, and I’ve met Sasha Cohen and Todd Eldridge which was cool when I was skating.

Hi everyone! On Friday, I went to visit the Akron Zoo and couldn’t stand the cuteness of one adorable animal in particular – the puffer-fish! I seriously could have stood in front of their little home for hours watching them float around and being simply charmed by their tiny smile. Take a look:

It was hard not to be totally enamored by this little guy, so much so that I basically bellowed “HE’S SO CUTE” to no one in particular. In fact, I was so busy watching him, that I didn’t even notice the little girl standing beside me who yelled “HE’S SO CUTE” just like the goofy redhead who screamed it seconds before. Of course, I had to acknowledge the little lady with great taste in fish so I turned to her and replied with, “HE IS SO CUTE”!!! It was really something. :’)

If you’re having a down and out Tuesday, just remember that puffer-fish are adorable creatures with a tiny smile and that should brighten your day right up. If your day is going fantastic already, make it even better by remembering this little post. 😀

Nail Passion Website Shout Out

Howdy! Okay, so you know how on WordPress you can see the referral links to how someone stumbled upon your blog? It’s super handy and I’m super thankful for it, because a certain special website has brought me TONS of new blog viewers. At the beginning of April, someone linked to lifewithlilred on a website called Nail Passion, which discusses all things real and fake nails.

As you all know, part of the signature Lil Red look is my long, talon acrylics that I am totally obsessed with. And, I guess other people are, too! I want to thank whomever it was that thought my nails were fierce enough to put on the Nail Passion page. It was most flattering and I am so appreciative of all of the new blog viewers that came my way because of it!!
