Tattoo You: Family Portraits Edition

Hello!! This past month, I treated myself to a tap out tattoo session AKA nine hours straight of getting work done. I prefer this method, as I can get a lot done at one time and my tattoo artist, Emily, completed nine tattoos and some touch ups during our time together. I love everything I got but I am particularly enamored with these family portraits I got on the side of my lower leg. Check it out:

tattootat1tat3tat2tat4

A lot of my tattoos are from comic books that I love but I also find inspiration when I’m scrolling through social media and see something cool. At some point, someone on my Facebook timeline posted the example picture that my tattoos are based on and I fell in love. I decided that I would like to do something similar with my own family and my tattoo artist made the perfect depictions with just lines and patterns.

My tattoos are in the following order:

  • Grandma, Grandpa (Dad’s side)
  • Grandma, Grandpa (Mom’s side)
  • Mom, Dad

Emily told me that the hardest part of sketching out these tattoos was making each silhouette look like the person despite not having a face. I say that she knocked it out of the park and I can see the likeness of all of my loved ones perfectly. In my parent’s house, all three of these pictures have been on the shelves in the living room for as long as I can remember and they have always been some of my favorites. I am proud to have something so beautiful to commemorate each family member and I have not been able to stop looking at my legs since I got the tattoos!! (PS: If you are considering getting tattooed, here is some useful information on: Which places hurt the most when getting tattooed).

Do you have any tattoos? Which one is your favorite? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

If The Shoe Fits: Marc Fisher Heeled Boots Edition

Hi there and welcome to the newest edition of If The Shoe Fits! It has been a tragically long time since I did any type of shopping that wasn’t for necessities. In fact, my last in store TJMaxx shopping trip was all the way back in February. Shocking, I know, but what’s the point of buying new clothes if literally no one is going to see you in it cause COVID lol.

Every once in a while I would scroll through TJMaxx’s website but nothing jumped out at me and I was worried about the hassle of returning unwanted items. I would online window shop once or twice a month and, since February, there has not been one single item that I deemed worth buying. Until I saw these gorgeous admiral blue boots by Marc Fisher, that is! Check em’ out:

B448B1E4-BC65-41BD-A4BF-AF5B75D453CDA8CBAA48-5022-444F-9428-F72A173C2966511DB625-E97F-408A-B8B6-501B6DE8E0D09D70AA72-4BCD-4B72-88CA-C99EA1A3630E

Since my birthday, I have had a TJMaxx gift card burning a hole in my pocket and I was so happy to finally find something truly worth spending it on. As I browsed through the TJ’s website, I legit clutched my pearls when these boots popped up on the screen. They immediately went into my shopping cart and I have not looked back since. It’s not every day you find a pair of blue knee high, heeled boots and in a crocodile pattern to boot! Ba dum chhhh.

Anyways, everything about my new Marc Fisher boots is perfect to me. They are just so unique and I have seriously never seen anything like them before, which makes them all the more appealing. Were they a necessary purchase amidst the coronavirus pandemic? My answer is: Absolutely because mama needed a treat! It has been so long since I had a treat yoself purchase and it felt like giving myself a big hug when my boots finally arrived in the mail. Now, here’s to hoping I’ll find at least somewhere to wear them to this year. 😀

How have your shopping habits changed since the coronavirus? What was your last treat yoself buy? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

New Hot Pink & Chartreuse Nails

Hello! As an essential worker who is in close contact to a high risk population, I have been really limiting my time out in public. Honestly, it takes a lot to even leave the house sometimes. Back in the “normal” days, I always looked forward to my monthly nail appointments. But, now, I really really look forward to it because it is one of the two to three community outings I do per month.

I am so thankful to my favorite salon, Elysian Nails, for taking all of the necessary precautions that make me feel like I can relax while I’m there. Normally, when I’m out doing grocery shopping I want to leave ASAP because of all of the people! Even though we are in crazy times, everyone needs a treat and I feel like a million bucks whenever I leave the salon chair. Still a nervous wreck – but a million bucks, none of the less.

The nail tech I had this time around was not the most gentle, but I still really like how my claws turned out! Take a look:

377E2476-7364-4FD3-876B-A0A0AD192421CA19B11E-269A-4E36-A3E8-CE2A6AAEA52F

As someone with a ton of tattoos and piercings, like me, can tell you: Beauty is pain. However, I don’t think I have ever been nicked or said “ouch” as many times as this previous one. And, I really don’t mean to complain, but it was definitely not the most pleasant experience – especially since the salon is where I go to find myself, lol.

Despite all of the ouchies, I absolutely love the colors of my nails. Both of these shades are by my favorite nail care brand, Londontown. The pink hue is called Summer Fling and the chartreuse is appropriately named Electric Avenue. Summer time is when you can go all out with bright, poppy colors and I was inspired by my favorite warm weather treat – watermelon!

It’s amazing how something so little like a neon color can make me smile but I feel happy when I look at my nails. And, given the current state of everything going on right now, I’ll take any extra pep in my step that I can get. Thanks to Elysian Nails for always keeping my claws on point and to Londontown for introducing me to a Summer Fling on Electric Avenue! 😀

Have you ever had an unpleasant salon experience? What happened? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

Taking Care Of My Mental Health In Quarantine

Taking Care Of My Mental Health In Quarantine

Hello! Living in a quarantine style state can be very taxing on one’s mental health. It’s hard when you can’t see your friends as often and every day outings that you used to look forward to have become a thing of the past. As someone who has struggled with depression for over a decade, I know first hand that it can be very easy to fall into a slump when you’re confined to the four walls of your home day in and day out.

So, how do I keep a positive attitude despite hardly ever leaving my apartment? A healthy mixture of the following keeps me right on track:

Scheduled Pampering:

Once a week, typically over the weekend, I always enjoy using a new face mask. I like having a “treat” that I look forward to and experimenting with different face masks is a fun and cheap way to try something new. I ordered a pack of six different sheet face masks from Amazon and got twelve in total for ten bucks. I thought it was a steal and now I have something new to try for the next several weeks. Score!

Getting Enough Sleep:

I think one of the most important things that one can do, especially if they are currently not working, is to continue with their normal sleep schedule. It is very easy to fall into the trap of staying up late and sleeping in until the following afternoon and that is not good! Try and maintain your regular schedule throughout the day as much as possible. I always find that a sense of normality makes me feel better and a good night’s sleep tends to do the trick, too. 🙂

Exercise Your Mind:

There are so many fun apps and games that are designed to make you think. Believe you me, I enjoy a video game or movie marathon just as much as the next one. But, so much mindless entertainment can leave your brain feeling mushy. Spend an hour or two a day with a good book, a crossword puzzle, or even building with LEGO. I promise that it will be a welcome break from whatever show you’re currently binging and your brain will thank you!

Talking About It:

We are all dealing with the current state of things differently because we have never experienced anything like this before. Everyone is feeling nervous and scared and those feelings can continue to fester into something debilitating if you keep it all bottled up. Have a conversation with a trusted friend or family member and voice what is concerning you or giving you anxiety. You will probably find that they have a lot of similar fears and that is usually really comforting to me and, hopefully, for you too.

With the times that we are living in right now, it is easy to let your own self care fall by the wayside. So, use the tips above and get yourself back to baseline and, then, beyond!

How have you been taking care of your mental health? What make you feel better? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

Harry Potter Great Hall LEGO Set

Harry Potter Great Hall LEGO Set

Hello! While in quarantine, Johnny and I have been enjoying putting together LEGO sets including ones from Harry Potter and Star Wars. Johnny bought me the Hogwarts Clock Tower set for my birthday and we had such fun assembling it that I went ahead and bought the Great Hall set a few weeks later. Although the bigger sets are a bit pricey, they are worth every penny in the hours of entertainment that Johnny and I get out of them.

We stretched the Great Hall set out over the course of a weekend while Harry Potter movies, Impractical Jokers, or The Office played on TV. After at least five solid hours of building our Great Hall was finally complete. The best part? Attaching it to the Clock Tower, of course! Check it out:

F535E99B-C6F3-425C-8431-2698A90215AE13A6F3F4-4893-4E51-809D-DE9EB4ED50CE98AF7890-1158-44DA-8540-8BADB59A5134AC2BC885-A3CB-47D9-8E11-CFBDCAC67F075C6CD14D-1AA4-4E1F-8018-BE2CDE1C152E8E637194-5F7B-454C-A43B-B1593444AA180A81B097-70D9-4351-AF38-CE386A8B220C2E198AF1-9C91-4DCB-B5CB-63321CB2FB80A943AAE3-2EB7-4973-9116-81905EF64C0986FC3C67-25A4-4D49-85E5-EEB84D8D4FAD

While the Clock Tower set is specifically from the Yule Ball scene in The Goblet Of Fire, our Great Hall set combines imagery from both the first and second films. Don’t believe me? We have Professor Quirrell and the basilisk to prove it! Our sets are, technically, not the most cohesive right now but our two sets combined look AWESOME… From the outside, at least.

In comparison to the Clock Tower set, the Great Hall had a lot more pieces which made it a much more intricate and time consuming build. All the while, it was insanely hot in our apartment so spreading it out over a few days was definitely the move. As always, Johnny and I have a great system when it comes to our LEGO construction. He takes care of all of the detail work, which is impossible for me to do with my nails. I, on the other hand, handle a lot of the big pieces and everyone wins!

Johnny and I like to buy a new LEGO set every few months and I am already looking forward to my next Harry Potter purchases. What’s on deck? For starters, the Whomping Willow set! Then, I would love to add the Astronomy Tower, Hagrid’s Hut, and the Quidditch Pitch. Hey, it’s Harry Potter so I have to dream big! 🙂

What has been keeping you entertained in quarantine? Who else enjoys building with LEGO? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

New Yellow & Teal Nails

New Yellow & Teal Nails

Hello! Before I went on a staycation with my family in Lexington, Kentucky, I treated myself to an evening at Elysian Nails. I figured that I had to get my nails looking right after getting such a funky new hair cut and color! My half blonde hair has inspired an adoration of all things yellow and I just had to reflect that on my new nails with this beachy cool color combo:

Nothing screams summer fun more than a bright, poppy burst of in your face yellow. I am absolutely obsessed with this sand and surf palette and, while there are no beaches in Ohio (Lake Erie doesn’t count, people!), it takes me to a happy, tropical place with every passing glance. Summer is the perfect time to experiment with bold and flashy colors and I think that the best place to start is with your nails!

Going to my monthly appointment at Elysian Nails is something that I always look forward to but this fill was an extra special treat. I never mind which member of the Elysian team does my nails because they are all fabulous but the tech who did this fill named Shelly is out of this world.

Miss girl had my acrylics shortened, shaped, sharpened, and painted in under a half hour, easily. It worked out better than I could have imagined because this super speedy appointment left me with ample time to do vacation preparation once I returned home. Bonus!

Thank you to Elysian Nails for all of the extra precautions that they are taking to keep everyone safe. And, special thanks to Shelly for some much needed pampering after a LONG ASS WEEK! ❤

What color of nail polish do you have on? What is your favorite color? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

New Hot Pink & Charcoal Grey Nails

New Hot Pink & Charcoal Grey Nails

Hello! After over a month of not wearing acrylics due to the quarantine, I finally made my way back to the salon under guidelines that I was comfortable with. At Elysian Nails, I was able to come in for their very first appointment of the day. To be let inside the building, you had to text upon your arrival, get your temperature taken, and be wearing a mask. Check, check, and double check.

Once I was in the salon, there was only about six people there in total with well over six feet of distance between all of the customers. Plexiglass barriers were placed between the nail tech and client as well as between each station. Although these guidelines may feel over the top to some, I felt very safe with them. In turn, this made me feel like it was okay to treat myself to these beauties:

Despite being in a face mask and Elysian being nowhere near its full capacity, I felt right at home as soon as I walked in. Seeing all of my favorite nail techs, hearing the trendy music, and melting into one of their comfy chairs was just what I needed after working the duration of the coronavirus pandemic. It was amazing to be back and I was proud of all of the measures being taken by the owners to keep their customers and employees safe.

While acrylic-less, I already had the colors I wanted to use planned out – flirty and sassy pink in Summer Fling paired with the edgy and cool charcoal grey in Put The Kettle On. Both of these polishes are by Londontown and I highly recommend checking their page out for more beautiful colors and nourishing products.

My nails turned out exactly how I wanted them and, MAN, did it feel good to type with them! Going acrylic-less for the first time in years wasn’t the fondest time of my life but I got through it. I think I’ll stick to my monthly fills from now on, though. 😉

Have you been to a salon recently? What was it like? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

Is It Time To Get Your Confidence Back?

Is It Time To Get Your Confidence Back?

One of the most frustrating things about living in the modern world is the fact that, for many of us, it seems dedicated to making us feel as bad about ourselves as possible. The world sets such incredibly high standards for many of us that it’s unlikely any of us could live up to them. Because of that, developing any kind of self-confidence can be a real challenge. Of course, just because something is a challenge doesn’t mean that it’s impossible. With that in mind, here are some things that you can do to bring up your confidence levels, even just a little:

Take care of yourself:

If you want to start feeling better about yourself, then one of the first things that you’re going to want to do is to start taking better care of yourself. After all, if you don’t feel good physically, then your perception of yourself is going to end up pretty skewed. This could involve anything from eating better and sleeping more to treating yourself to some pampering with a spa day or a treatment to remove body hair with lasers. Whatever you do to look after yourself, not only are you going to feel better physically, but it’s a good reminder that you deserve a treat from time to time.

Self care can come in many different forms and what makes you feel good could be the polar opposite from your best friend. That’s okay and is why it’s called self care – it’s completely up to you! Perhaps this means scheduling an appointment with a therapist. Or maybe it’s scheduling a consultation for cosmetic surgery with beautybybuford.com (or a similar practice in your local area). If cosmetic surgery has been on your mind, make smart decisions and wait for surgery until you find a surgeon you are fully confident in.

Get off social media for a while:

Social media can be a really amazing thing. After all, it gives us the chance to connect with one another no matter where we are and keeps us up to date on the current goings-on of the world. However, it can also be a pretty negative influence on many of our lives. Seeing the carefully curated images that people put of themselves on social media, it’s easy to start feeling somewhat inferior. But the truth is that these images simply aren’t a reflection of the real world. Getting away from social media from time to time is one of the best things that you can do to start feeling better about yourself.

Get used to your body:

One of the things that far too few of us actually take the time to do is to look at ourselves in the mirror. Many of us have some kind of perception about our bodies that so heavily colors what we think that we don’t pay attention to the reality of how we look. Taking the time to actually look at yourself and get used to your body can help to remind you that you likely look totally normal and that there’s nothing wrong with how you look.

The reality is, that a lot of aspects of the modern world are built around making you think that there’s something wrong with feeling confident about yourself. This is often because it’s a whole lot easier to sell you stuff when you feel miserable about yourself. Remember that you’re not doing anyone any harm by feeling good about yourself and, in a world that is designed to profit from making you feel as bad about yourself as possible, there’s something pretty radical about loving yourself.

If The Shoe Fits: Forever 21 Heeled Combat Boots Edition

Hello! After what felt like going forever without shopping, I finally caved and treated myself to some goodies online from Forever 21 and Urban Outfitters. There is nothing like packages arriving at my front door to help perk myself up and I now think I can hold off until the fateful day when I feel safe to shop at TJMaxx. Maybe.

So, while I mull over that decision, check out these new white heeled combat boots from Forever 21:

FD80FFD5-2D2C-460D-BF3D-EC2346D1878B7DA98C45-C866-4E60-9A2A-B68F447556FF77A81BF5-A63B-4FC3-8313-6EDC6FB21F360ABD5B99-2DA2-4F32-B4B5-ABBF3BA30BDC

If there’s one thing Lil Red loves, it’s a good combat boot. I have flat combat boots and heeled ones and ninety-nine percent of them are… Yep, you guessed it: All black everything. So, as you can imagine, it made it impossible to say no to a new crisp white pair to add some variety to my combat boot collection.

I love the fresh take on the grunge style that these shoes give me with the unique color palette but they are still such a classic shape and I think they are really cool. Of course, crunching through the snow in these bad boys next winter will be a treat. But, can we please talk about how cute these will be paired with short shorts and cute tights or socks come summer? Living for it!

I paid around thirty dollars for these new boots and I considered it a steal, especially because I’m sure I would pay around the same amount at TJs. Now, if only I could break free from my comfy cozy quarantine wardrobe long enough to actually wear them!

What is your favorite style of shoes? How do you give a nod to grunge style? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

Totally Tights

Hello! During my recent little treat yoself online shopping session, I got some super fun accessories from Urban Outfitters. All of my purchases didn’t ship together, though, and I ended up getting the last of it a few days ago. There is nothing like a bit of online shopping to perk you up and the gift just keeps on giving once it shows up on your door!

The tights you’re about to see from UO may be a small new addition to my accessories collection but they are cuter than I could have ever imagined. So, yes, good things definitely come in small packages! Check it out:

378C21AC-6E70-47A1-B697-A3D9B8155DEC05F27D76-345B-4BEC-BBC2-8E4AAC73670A20EDF292-D583-49CE-B1A1-6FE56302250D

Yes, these most certainly are colorful rhinestoned fishnets and I am completely obsessed! A while back ago, I saw an advertisement for similar tights on Facebook and I remember thinking how cute they were but I didn’t order them. So, when these little beauties showed up during my Urban Outfitters spree, I just had to buy a pair… And a back up one in case the first pair snags. 😉

These tights are absolutely perfect for layering under short shorts and will add an amazing touch of fun to the most simple outfits. And, with bedazzled fishnets you definitely don’t have to go all out. Pair under shorts, throw on a graphic tee and combat boots and hit up your favorite stomping grounds with your friends when it’s safe to do so. These tights will be sure to make a statement during your first outing in a month of Sundays!

What is your favorite funky accessory? Do you have any crazy tights? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah
