New Slate Grey & Denim Blue Nails

New Slate Grey & Denim Blue Nails

Hello! For Valentine’s Day, I just had to treat myself to a fill for my talons even though it was a bit earlier than my four week mark between appointments. I had an insanely busy week and the fact that I could get pampered at the end of it definitely helped get me through the long work days. My go to girl at Elysian Nails was unavailable, however, another of my favorite techs was able to fit me in and it was so nice to catch up. She also did a fabulous job on my claws! Check it out:

Normally, it takes me a fairly long time to pick out the perfect color combination for my nails. This time, though, I walked up to the polish station and my eyes immediately locked on a bottle of rich denim blue by OPI. I was in love and decided to go with a slate grey because of its blue undertones to enhance the beautiful blue even more. I am particularly fond of the shade of slate grey that I picked out and have used similar colors before but this one is definitely my favorite! I also love the fact that, in certain lighting, the denim blue looks black – it’s like having two different polish colors in one. πŸ˜€

I knew I was in good hands with my nail tech and we spent my entire time at the salon gabbing away about quarantine life, our favorite TV shows, and the traditions of Lunar New Year, which my tech was kind enough to teach me about. I also happened to get my fill on my favorite day at Elysian Nails: Throwback Thursday! They play the best hits of the late 90s and early 2000s all day and every time a new song would come on, we would both reminisce on how it was our jam. And apparently still is now!

Elysian Nails is, hands down, the best salon that I have ever been to. The nail techs are so incredibly talented and I enjoy getting to know each of them. The atmosphere created in the salon is not only fun with the great music and constant chit chat but I also feel safe when I go there because of their dedication to following COVID-19 regulations and then some. Whenever I go there, I not only get to be pampered like a queen but I get to see all of the techs and the owners who I am lucky enough to consider friends now. ❀

What is your nail salon like? What color of nail polish are you rocking? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

Hello! I live for my monthly nail appointments as they get me out of the house for an hour or so in a place that I feel safe. I was especially looking forward to this past appointment because the last time I got my nails done, one of the new techs at Elysian Nails did my fill and I enjoyed her company so much! I requested to have her do my nails again this time around because she did such a great job and she was really easy and fun to talk to. I am just as impressed this time around and I love how my nails turned out:

Normally, I have a good idea of what colors I want my nails to be painted before I go to the salon but I legit had no clue this time. I spent a good amount of time at the nail polish wall selecting one color, deciding against it, and putting it back. My eyes finally locked on the punchy hot pink and I decided that I could work with it because it would be a pretty pop of color against the gloomy weather outside. Once I knew I was going with the hot pink, I thought that a pale seashell pink would balance things out nicely and went for it.

At first I wasn’t too sure about this color combination but, after a few hours, it grew on me and I really like it! It’s Valentine’s Day appropriate without being an overly themed palette and, although darker colors will always have my heart, it’s nice to explore a totally different shade like pink. I can’t tell you guys how I’m getting my hair done yet, as it’s a surprise but these nails are also going to look amazing with my new do… Just wait for it!

I love going to Elysian Nails because not only did my nails turn out beautifully but whenever I leave the salon, I feel nothing short of a million bucks. I love being able to socialize with the wonderful techs there and the owners have been amazing at helping everyone feel safe with the proper precautions and then some. In fact, as soon as I leave, I’m already itching to go back. ❀

What color of nail polish are you wearing? Which colors should I get my nails done next? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

New Rose Pink & Silver Glitter Nails

New Rose Pink & Silver Glitter Nails

Hello!! I live for my monthly nail appointments at Elysian Nails because it is pretty much the only time I venture into the public (other than one grocery shopping trip) cause COVID. I am not complaining, though, because I am dedicated to keeping myself, my loved ones, and my clients and their families safe. You can definitely imagine how excited I get to go to the salon and, I have to say, my past visit was one of the best ones yet. Check out these adorable Rose Pink & Silver Glitter Nails and let’s discuss:

I had the pleasure of having a lovely new to the salon nail tech work on my claws and she did an awesome job! Not only are my stiletto nails on point but I had such a great time chatting with and getting to know my tech. We seriously did not stop girl talking the entire hour that I was there and it was like hanging out with a new friend. So much ground was covered like our love for tattoos and piercings as well as holiday plans and all of the plans we missed out on due to the pandemic.

The past several times I have gotten my nails done, I didn’t really talk to any of the techs aside from the usual pleasantries. Having conversations is not a requirement for me when I go to the salon but it sure was nice and it made my pampering time so much better. I plan on requesting this tech for my future visits and it makes me look forward to my monthly outings even more – especially considering that I didn’t experience ANY discomfort during the appointment like with the last tech I had.

I am in love with my nails and am most impressed because my new tech has not done a lot of stiletto nails before. I think the rose pink and silver glitter is a modern take on holiday colors and will not only be super sweet for Christmas but perfect for ringing in the New Year. The silver reminds me of tinsel and fresh fallen snow and when they are in the light they look gold like twinkling Christmas lights. Meanwhile, the pink hue makes me think of bubbly champagne to toast with on New Year’s Eve. Cheers!

What are your favorite colors to rock during the holiday season? How do you pamper yourself during the pandemic? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

New Blue Grey & Glitter Periwinkle Nails

Hello! If you have been following Lil Red’s saga at the nail salon, then you will know that the past three times around, I had a nail tech that caused me a lot of grief. During my last appointment, my real nail got cut into and it hurt like the dickens. After that, I said enough is enough and requested someone new for my next appointment.

I am so glad that I did because 1) My experience this fill around was fabulous and 2) Getting my nails done is really the only “outing” that I do other than grocery shopping because I work with so many high risk clients and families. When I get my nails done, I want to fully enjoy my time at the salon because, otherwise, I don’t go out. And, believe you me, enjoying yourself is hard when the tender skin around your nails is being cut multiple times per visit.

I am proud that I stuck up for myself because, usually, I am a very go with the flow kind of gal and only complain when it’s absolutely necessary in a salon situation. This fill has been the first time in three months that I truly felt pampered and I am obsessed with the results. Check it out:

Despite it being shockingly warm for November in Ohio, I wanted to do a winter wonderland inspired palette. While driving to the salon, I decided I wanted to do a light, sparkly purple along with a shade of grey. I fell in love with the shimmery periwinkle I picked out and, even though I’ve never seen Frozen, it made me think of Elsa!

Once the purple was decided, I found a stormy ocean blue grey to toughen it up. My nails turned out exactly how I wanted them to and the shape that my new tech improved on looked divine after he cut them down and sharpened them up. The best part, though? No cuts, no ouches, and absolutely NO discomfort the entire time. I am one hundred and fifty percent satisfied and I already am looking forward to my next appointment. πŸ™‚ ❀

Have you ever had a similar situation to my previous woes in a salon? How did you handle it? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

New Oxblood & Black Nails

New Oxblood & Black Nails

Hi! This past week, a new set of acrylics was much needed as all of my real nails underneath had grown out the length of the fake ones. I was very much looking forward to getting my claws done with a spooky color palette for Halloween but, naturally, I just had to get the nail tech who manhandles me again. *Massive eye roll*.

Other than the general discomfort of the whole experience, my nails did turn out really good. But, I promise, next appointment I am putting my big girl pants on and asking for a new tech! Lol, check it out:

I honest to god have never experienced a nail tech quite like this woman before. She literally cut into my real nail and it hurt so bad to the point that I half yelled “ouch”. You would think after that she would have been more careful but nope, I had so many ouchies and boo boos after this time at the salon that my fingers ached.

Another major problem with this nail tech is her constant need to complain about my hands and the difficulty I have moving them. I was in a car accident a year ago that left nerve damage in both of my arms. My hands tend to get very stiff and rigid and they are usually even worse after my day at work. I explained my accident to her but to have her constantly poke and prod my hands and say “relax” after the fact is just offensive when I can’t.

I decided that the next time I call in for an appointment is when I ask for a different tech because I am so sick of this. Lol, my nails look awesome but I hardly even mentioned it in this post because the situation is so off putting. But, yes, I love my dark and spooky oxblood and black nails and they are just what I wanted for October. I just wish a different nail tech did them! πŸ˜€

New Yellow & Red Violet Nails

New Yellow & Red Violet Nails

Hello everyone! Your girl was feeling her damn self in August! I got my hair done, new tattoos, and a gorgeous fill on my talons. It’s safe to say my self esteem is sky high because there’s nothing like some pampering (Yes, getting tattooed is pampering to me!) to make me feel at one hundred million percent. I love my “treat time” in the salons and it is always just what the doctor ordered. Because the doctor did, in fact, order these claws:

Way back in the day, my sister had an eyeshadow kit by some drugstore brand or another – it might have been CoverGirl or something of the like. Anyways, it was called “Bird Of Paradise” and the colors were very similar to the ones I picked. I have always loved the color combination of a bright red violet and poppy yellow ever since and wanted to do one more hurrah to summer hues before we transition into the fall.

Last time I got my nails done, you might remember me complaining about how rough the nail tech was on my nails. She made me bleed multiple times and I don’t think I have ever been so uncomfortable during a fill before. So, naturally, I would get this nail tech again this time around.

I am never one to complain and I understand that things aren’t always going to feel like a massage at the nail salon. However, I have just never had an experience of getting nicked and legit man handled So. Many. Times. before. After the fourth or fifth “ouch” I finally had to say something because it was just getting ridiculous at that point.

Don’t get me wrong, I love the results of my fill but I don’t want to spend an entire hour and fifteen minutes (She takes a long time.) with my fingers bleeding. Not the best look and I definitely plan on asking not to have her do my nails again the next time I come in. #SOannoying -_-

Hello! As an essential worker who is in close contact to a high risk population, I have been really limiting my time out in public. Honestly, it takes a lot to even leave the house sometimes. Back in the “normal” days, I always looked forward to my monthly nail appointments. But, now, IΒ really really look forward to it because it is one of the two to three community outings I do per month.

I am so thankful to my favorite salon, Elysian Nails, for taking all of the necessary precautions that make me feel like I can relax while I’m there. Normally, when I’m out doing grocery shopping I want to leave ASAP because of all of the people! Even though we are in crazy times, everyone needs a treat and I feel like a million bucks whenever I leave the salon chair. Still a nervous wreck – but a million bucks, none of the less.

The nail tech I had this time around was not the most gentle, but I still really like how my claws turned out! Take a look:

As someone with a ton of tattoos and piercings, like me, can tell you: Beauty is pain. However, I don’t think I have ever been nicked or said “ouch” as many times as this previous one. And, I really don’t mean to complain, but it was definitely not the most pleasant experience – especially since the salon is where I go to find myself, lol.

Despite all of the ouchies, I absolutely love the colors of my nails. Both of these shades are by my favorite nail care brand, Londontown. The pink hue is called Summer Fling and the chartreuse is appropriately named Electric Avenue. Summer time is when you can go all out with bright, poppy colors and I was inspired by my favorite warm weather treat – watermelon!

It’s amazing how something so little like a neon color can make me smile but I feel happy when I look at my nails. And, given the current state of everything going on right now, I’ll take any extra pep in my step that I can get. Thanks to Elysian Nails for always keeping my claws on point and to Londontown for introducing me to a Summer Fling on Electric Avenue! πŸ˜€

Hello! Before I went on a staycation with my family in Lexington, Kentucky, I treated myself to an evening at Elysian Nails. I figured that I had to get my nails looking right after getting such a funky new hair cut and color! My half blonde hair has inspired an adoration of all things yellow and I just had to reflect that on my new nails with this beachy cool color combo:

Nothing screams summer fun more than a bright, poppy burst of in your face yellow. I am absolutely obsessed with this sand and surf palette and, while there are no beaches in Ohio (Lake Erie doesn’t count, people!), it takes me to a happy, tropical place with every passing glance. Summer is the perfect time to experiment with bold and flashy colors and I think that the best place to start is with your nails!

Going to my monthly appointment at Elysian Nails is something that I always look forward to but this fill was an extra special treat. I never mind which member of the Elysian team does my nails because they are all fabulous but the tech who did this fill named Shelly is out of this world.

Miss girl had my acrylics shortened, shaped, sharpened, and painted in under a half hour, easily. It worked out better than I could have imagined because this super speedy appointment left me with ample time to do vacation preparation once I returned home. Bonus!

Thank you to Elysian Nails for all of the extra precautions that they are taking to keep everyone safe. And, special thanks to Shelly for some much needed pampering after a LONG ASS WEEK! ❀

New Hot Pink & Charcoal Grey Nails

New Hot Pink & Charcoal Grey Nails

Hello! After over a month of not wearing acrylics due to the quarantine, I finally made my way back to the salon under guidelines that I was comfortable with. At Elysian Nails, I was able to come in for their very first appointment of the day. To be let inside the building, you had to text upon your arrival, get your temperature taken, and be wearing a mask. Check, check, and double check.

Once I was in the salon, there was only about six people there in total with well over six feet of distance between all of the customers. Plexiglass barriers were placed between the nail tech and client as well as between each station. Although these guidelines may feel over the top to some, I felt very safe with them. In turn, this made me feel like it was okay to treat myself to these beauties:

Despite being in a face mask and Elysian being nowhere near its full capacity, I felt right at home as soon as I walked in. Seeing all of my favorite nail techs, hearing the trendy music, and melting into one of their comfy chairs was just what I needed after working the duration of the coronavirus pandemic. It was amazing to be back and I was proud of all of the measures being taken by the owners to keep their customers and employees safe.

While acrylic-less, I already had the colors I wanted to use planned out – flirty and sassy pink in Summer Fling paired with the edgy and cool charcoal grey in Put The Kettle On. Both of these polishes are by Londontown and I highly recommend checking their page out for more beautiful colors and nourishing products.

My nails turned out exactly how I wanted them and, MAN, did it feel good to type with them! Going acrylic-less for the first time in years wasn’t the fondest time of my life but I got through it. I think I’ll stick to my monthly fills from now on, though. πŸ˜‰

Have you been to a salon recently? What was it like? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

Pampering Yourself At Home

Standard
Pampering Yourself At Home

Hello! I, like many of you, am absolutely itching to get back to all of my normal pampering routines once the coronavirus dies down. Heck, I’m absolutely itching to get back to ALL of my normal routines! But, the pampering aspect holds a special place in my heart because it’s something I value and enjoy a lot. If you are ready to get your beauty on in self-isolation, start with the following tips:

Do Your Makeup:

I know it’s easy to blow off doing your morning makeup routine if you’re at home right now but I promise it makes a huge difference. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve had many a makeup free day and it feels great. However, it feels even better to do your makeup after a long stint of makeup free days, lol.

Whenever I am feeling a bit down, I wake up early and do my makeup before work and I always have sky high confidence the whole day. Doing your makeup gives a nod to the normalcy of a “regular” day at work and did I mention all of the quarantine selfies you can take after? Bonus!

Do Your Nails:

Of course I just had to get a DIY acrylic kit because I literally can’t live without my claws. This is a great option for those who are going crazy without their scheduled trips to the salon! If you’re not too bent out of shape about your acrylics, set up a manicure bar at home for something more low key. Soak your nails, shape and file them, and pick a perfect spring color to paint them. (This is also a great idea for a little mommy and me time, too!)

Do Your Hair:

Right now I am doing nothing to my hair because I plan on changing it up post quarantine. But, if this is not the case for you, then do keep up with your hair maintenance if you dye it. This suggestion is not a suggestion to cut your hair on your own because we all know that it can lead to catastrophe!

Rather, this is a suggestion to take some time to yourself in the evening for a long shower and maybe a deep conditioning treatment. To really bring the beauty salon to you, have someone in your house wash your hair for the ultimate pampering.

And Remember:

Many of your favorite salons are offering gift cards right now and that is a wonderful way to support them during this crazy time. I plan on buying gift cards to all of my stomping grounds so that as soon as this passes, I will be the first one in the salon chair! πŸ˜€

How do you pamper yourself at home? What helps you relax during this stressful time? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah
