What Have I Been Up To?

What Have I Been Up To?

Hi!! Is it just me, or is January kind of a blah month? It’s grey, damp, and cold – what’s more, all of the excitement from the holiday season has come and passed leaving not much to look forward to. As January draws to a close, it’s also a cruel reminder that in a month and a half it will be one whole year since the COVID-19 pandemic began. I don’t know about you, but that is definitely an anniversary that I won’t be celebrating!

Other than working, I really haven’t been up to much since Christmas. It’s just been the usual of Duolingo, reading, Mario Galaxy, Netflix, and enjoying Johnny’s company. Boring? Yes. But safe? Absolutely! It has been a long time since we have seen any of our friends but we just don’t want to take any risks – especially with the vaccine right around the corner.

Oh! How could I forget? Johnny and I have began looking for a house to rent once our lease is up at the apartment. It is still a couple of months away but, oh my gosh, am I excited. This pandemic has taught us that our little apartment just isn’t big enough and I can’t wait until we have a space that we can actually move around in. I am also constantly thinking about having a game room so we can entertain our friends when it’s safe to do so.

A bigger space also comes with the potential to get a pet, which is also going to be an amazing stepping stone in mine and Johnny’s relationship. We both grew up with dogs and wherever we end up moving will certainly feel more like a home with a four legged friend in it. And, also bunnies! I have had my heart set on getting two Netherland Dwarf rabbits and promised myself that it would happen once I am not in an apartment so my Bunny Mom dreams are that much closer to coming true. 🙂

Despite the boredom blahs, there is much to be thankful for like the safety of myself and my loved ones. Boring is good right now because it keeps us out of harm’s way and Johnny and I will gladly continue our lock down lifestyle with the promise of big milestones happening very soon!

What have you been up to recently? What is the next thing that you are looking forward to? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

Valentine’s Day Gift Ideas

Valentine’s Day Gift Ideas

Hello everyone! Valentine’s Day is right around the corner so it’s time to do some shopping for your significant other. Today, we are going to look at some of the classic gifts you can give as well as some more unique ideas to woo your loved one with this Valentine’s Day. All right, love birds, let’s get to it:

LEGO Sets:

Have you guys seen the new botanical LEGO sets?! They are amazing and you could give your SO a LEGO bouquet of flowers to assemble together. How fun is that? LEGO also has some awesome sets of famous city skylines world wide. Perhaps you could pick a romantic city that you’d love to visit together? In my opinion, LEGOs are a two part gift because it’s so exciting to receive a set but it’s even better when you put it together… together! I love building with LEGO with my boyfriend and just one set can have you hooked on a brand new hobby – I know that was the case for me. 🙂

Pictures, Please:

For one of my client’s birthdays, he simply requested a picture frame with a picture of me and him in it. I was so touched by this and it is a gift that you really can’t go wrong with. Frame a picture of you two together and include a letter of why that moment was special to you. Sometimes, it’s the simplest gesture that is the most effective and I, for one, would love a gift like that too.

Lock Down Date Night:

Thanks to the COVID-19 pandemic, it is not safe to go with the classic “night on the town” date so create a date night at home, instead. Cook a delicious meal, get all dressed up, and enjoy each other’s company. For activities, you can play games, pop on a rom com, or just reminisce on your relationship while sipping champagne. Johnny and I had a lock down style date for our one year anniversary and it is one of my most loved memories with him, despite just being in our apartment. ❤

Subscription Boxes:

Has your partner always been interested in trying Hello Fresh, Ipsy, or Stitch Fix? Subscription services are one of the gifts that keep on giving and every month will bring a new treat for your SO. This is also a fun gift because it will help break up the monotony of lock down life with something monthly to look forward to. Pick out the perfect box for your partner’s interests and you can keep having Valentine’s Day for several months to come.

At Home Spa Treatments:

After a long year of pandemic problems, maybe you and your SO just want to relax this Valentine’s Day. If that’s the case, why not bring the spa to you? Provide an assortment of products from face masks and body scrubs to deep conditioning hair treatments, nail care kits, and essential oils. Make sure you have big fluffy towels or robes too! Couples that pamper together stay together and you are both going to feel like a million bucks after your spa treatments are complete.

We are going to have to get creative to celebrate Valentine’s Day this year but that’s okay! Enjoy each other’s company and safety at home with the ideas above and have your best V-Day yet. ❤

What are you going to get your SO for Valentine’s Day? What is your favorite Valentine’s Day memory? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

How To Keep Your Home Healthy During Quarantine

Standard
How To Keep Your Home Healthy During Quarantine

Right now, you are probably growing used to spending pretty much all of your time at home. Rather than being a place that you spend your evenings and weekends; your home is now your gym, workplace, and everything else besides. During the quarantine, you may have spent time perfecting your work from home set up, trying to keep yourself entertained, and the majority of it trying to stay in touch with friends and family via Zoom.

One thing that you may not have considered is whether your home environment is beneficial for your health. As everyone is spending far more time at home, it is more crucial than ever to make sure that your home helps your health rather than damages it. Here is how you can ensure that your home is as healthy as possible so that you can quarantine in the knowledge that your home is the best place to be right now:

Deal with Damp:

Dampness is a common problem in many homes and can cause health problems if it is left untreated. Mold and mildew are things that no one wants to see in their house, especially when you are spending all your time there. Ensuring that your home has adequate ventilation can help reduce damp, but if mold and mildew have already developed, you will need to remove them effectively. Using a bleach solution or proprietary mold remover should help clean off the mold and kill the mold spores. Remember that you will need to take care when using these treatments.

Clear the Air:

There is nothing more important than the air that you breathe, but it is easy to forget that you can play a part in improving the air quality in your home. Breathing in low-quality air can lead to a range of health problems and cause some potentially serious issues. Asthma and allergies can flare up when air quality is compromised, and your HVAC system could be causing these issues.

If your HVAC system is not maintained by a reputable air duct cleaning specialist such as DUCTZ, it can cause a range of problems. Over time, dust and dirt collect in your air ducts and if they are not cleaned regularly, then they will be spread throughout your home every time you use your heating and cooling system and pollute the quality of the air that you breathe. For this reason, scheduling regular HVAC maintenance is essential to ensure that your system is working correctly and that your air ducts are kept clean. A quick search for ‘HVAC contractor in Frederick, MD‘ or wherever it is you are located will put you in touch with the right professionals to guarantee good air quality in your home throughout the year.

Try a Deep Clean:

Deep cleaning your home is an excellent way to freshen it up and remove any potential health hazards. Deep cleaning removes the dust that can cause allergies and aggravate eczema-prone skin. Having a thorough deep clean of your house will also help to eliminate any harmful bacteria that could be lurking on your surfaces. Tend to what you can clean safely and leave the rest to the professionals should there be high places you can’t reach or your home is in need of a professional air duct cleaning. A freshly-cleaned, healthy home will make staying in it a far more pleasing experience.

Make your home even safer to be at during the pandemic by following the tips above!

Pandemic Worthy New Year’s Resolutions

Pandemic Worthy New Year’s Resolutions

Hello! I, personally, never make New Year’s Resolutions. But, that doesn’t mean that I can’t help you come up with yours! I’m sure it feels difficult to set goals when leaving the house isn’t the best option so how about some ideas that you can accomplish from the comfort of home? Like the following:

Doing workout videos:

If losing weight is one of your goals, then there are a plethora of work out videos online that you can do from your living room. From yoga and Zumba to simple stretches, there is sure to be something that works for you. Maybe some of the trainers at your local gym even have classes recorded! Start with one or two classes a week and continue adding on from there once you feel ready. Hey, just one half hour class is an awesome achievement if it’s something you’re not used to. And Netflix isn’t going anywhere, I promise. 🙂

Caring for indoor plants:

If you want to improve on your green thumb, try caring for some indoor plants until it gets warm enough to garden outdoors. Not only will they beautify your space but they will help clean the air as well as give you something productive to do. Check out Pinterest and create a photo worthy succulent garden. Or grow some herbs indoors to use while you test out new recipes. It feels good to take care of a plant and help it grow and it will be exciting to track its progress every day.

Scheduled video chats:

The COVID-19 pandemic has meant that family and friends do not get to see each other as often as before. If this is something that you have been down about, then pencil in scheduled video chats with those you miss. It is the next best thing to hanging out in real life and it feels nice to have something to look forward to marked in your calendar. I live for my FaceTime dates with my besties and this reminds me that I have to schedule some calls, myself!

Fostering/adopting a pet:

If you have always wanted a furry, scaley, or feathery friend to keep you company, then there is no better time than the present – especially if you are working from home. Do your research and visit a local animal shelter or rescue organization for your new best friend. If you are not ready for the full time commitment of a new pet, then fostering is also a great and much appreciated option.

If you love animals but cannot commit to having a pet, you can also help local shelters by providing old blankets or towels, food, and toys. Organize a community drive and help make a difference.

Work on a new/old hobby:

As always, the New Year is the best time to learn a new hobby or get reacquainted with an old one. Set aside a half hour every day or few days to work on a hobby that is fun for you. It’s impossible to be good at something overnight but the improvements that you will make with steady practice will help motivate you to keep working at it. Learn a new language, paint that picture from a tutorial, or try your hand at Photoshop. Practice makes perfect and by 2022 you will be amazed at how far you’ve come!

Get inspired with the tips above and carve out some time at home to begin working on your goals!

What are your resolutions for 2021? Have you been sticking to them so far? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

Choosing The Best Cleaning Company For Your Office

Standard
Choosing The Best Cleaning Company For Your Office

Does your office look a little less than perfect? We get it, and sometimes you just need that extra bit of help to get things spic and span, such as a cleaning company, so that you can pick up where they leave off. Here are some recommendations for choosing the best company for you.

Choose a company that provides the service you need:

There is a significant difference between a residential and commercial cleaning company so it is important to find one that specializes in the exact spaces you need to clean. You can find out by examining the company’s website and checking the services it offers. Other than that, you could call and ask over the phone what the company specializes in. Remember that there is also a difference between cleaning factories with a large amount of dirt and cleaner places like labs and hospitals. An Industrial cleaning company for your factory often goes well beyond just cleaning the inside of the property. The business you choose might also specialize in building maintenance or mold treatments. You might even be able to bundle services for a better deal so be sure to explore plenty of different options.

If your problems go beyond cleaning, such as pests, then you should consider hiring a pest control company that will be able to assist. Whether you need pest control or commercial cleaning London for overseas properties, many different companies will offer you a free quote for the services needed to help you find the best deal.

Need some assistance with how to find someone to help?

For the most part, the reviews you read online can be the best way to discover the pros and cons of cleaning services. Look up the company you’re considering and see what people have to say. It’s important to know if other customers were satisfied with the services provided before you enlist the help of anyone.

You might also want to narrow down your search to something more specific. For example, are you looking for a company that uses eco-friendly products like these business cleaning services in Indianapolis? Be sure to include that in your search terms to avoid companies that don’t have your preferred requirements.

Do I need the professionals?

On the face of it, cleaning seems to be a routine job that everyone knows how to do. However, the cleaning services of a professional office company are carried out according to a regular order and planning. In order for the services to be provided at the right pricing that does not burden the customer, it is necessary to specialize in the subject and to select the employees who are able to clean large areas very efficiently.

The cleaning team will focus on cleaning tables and other furniture, emptying garbage, washing floors, and more. In the bathroom, attention will be paid to the toilets, mirrors, and other accessories. In the kitchenettes, the counters, marble surfaces, and dishes will be cleaned. If you have a professional office space, then it is usually a procedure to ensure that you have someone who can undertake the task of cleaning, for the protection of yourself and your staff members.

Along with the normal cleaning, there is a thorough cleaning that is usually done once a week, and this involves cleaning ceramics, cleaning upper shelves that are not used regularly, washing floors in side rooms and closed warehouses, and more. Monthly cleaning is usually done for windows and lintels and other required elements. The job specifications can vary depending on the needs of the place and the requirements of the customers. Most often, these cleaning services are performed after or before the activity in the offices.

Choose the best cleaning company for your office carefully and see it sparkle once their job is complete!

If you haven’t made use of whatever you are considering letting go of in the past year then, chances are, you won’t be using it again.

Controlling Home Pests In The Winter

Standard
Controlling Home Pests In The Winter

It’s winter now and you might be thinking it’s time to relax your home’s defenses. What creatures and critters could possibly invade your home at this time of year? The answer is plenty. When the cold weather comes, many animals seek shelter and they often find it. Mice and rats burrow into your basement, spiders find tiny access holes, and insects find excellent wall space for new nests. Before we begin, we are here to remind you that it is so important to call a pest control service when you see a sign of infestation. It will only get worse! To find an expert near you, simply enter a search for “PEST CONTROL AT CHERMSIDE” (or your local area) to solve your pest problem.

Below are some of the common culprits and what to do about them:

Winged Carpenter Ants:

Ants don’t always walk along the ground in neat military rows, sometimes they fly. In a colony of Carpenter Ants there will be several that have wings. These winged ants are useful for collecting soft wood material for the nest. It’s common to find some flying ants in your home during the summer, they might have a nest outside somewhere and are looking for soft wood. However, in winter it means something else. The cold weather should have killed them so there must be a nest in your home. You will need to contact an exterminator.

Cluster Flies:

You should be familiar with cluster flies even if you haven’t heard them called that before. These are the most common species of fly, the ones that you find in your fruit bowl or on the window ledge. Cluster flies are common in the summer but in winter, it could be a problem. Cluster flies may have found a warm space in your home and built a nest that will allow them to survive the cold winter months. You need to locate the nest which you can do by watching the fly’s movements, alternatively, you can contact a pest control service to deal with it. To begin exploring your options if you are going the professional route, simply enter a search for “Miami Pest Control” (or your local area). These flies can be very difficult to get rid of so you will want a well received team to take on the task.

Mice:

Everyone loves cartoon mice but not everyone loves the real kind, especially if they’re wild field mice living in your home. During winter you might hear scratching sounds in the walls or catch sight of a small critter dashing across the floor. You may have mice. As the cold weather begins, mice retreat to warmer spaces and often burrow into people’s homes. A sheltered basement, garage, or a loft is the perfect place for them to survive the winter and breed. You can buy humane mouse traps or contact a specialist service.

Rats:

Rats are very common in the US but that wasn’t always the case. Prior to the discovery of the New World, rats didn’t exist on the continent. They were brought over in ships from Europe and Scandinavia. Fast forward to modern times and rats, wild rats at least, have become a common home invader. Like mice, rats don’t like the cold and retreat to warmer places as the winter approaches. The best places for them to live and breed through the cold months is often in your basement, loft, or walls. If you hear scratching sounds in the walls or ceiling, enter a search for “las vegas pest control” (or your local area) and contact a professional service immediately.

Spiders:

Spiders come in all different shapes and sizes, there are thousands of species in the world and around 3,400 in the US alone. It’s estimated that around one fourth of the human population is creeped out by spiders in some way. Not only that, but they are unhygienic and lay eggs. In the winter, you may have let your guard down when it comes to home invaders but you still need to look out for spiders. They retreat from your outdoor areas inside to escape the frost and can propagate quickly. If you discover you have a spider problem you can have the area professionally cleaned.

No one wants creepy crawlies and critters in their home! Use the tips above if you are dealing with an infestation.

Looking After Your Home’s Roof: 5 Tips For Homeowners

Standard
Looking After Your Home’s Roof: 5 Tips For Homeowners

Looking after your home’s roof is crucial to protect the structure of your property and ensure that all premises are safe and sound for your family. However, looking after the roof is something that can definitely be a task! Indeed, most parts are often inaccessible or extremely difficult to examine. Nonetheless, there are some easy ways to ensure that your home’s roof is healthy and bound to withstand the test of time. Start with the ones below:

Consider a Renovation:

One of the first steps is to check whether your roof needs a renovation. This type of project is undoubtedly time-consuming and can be quite expensive. However, your home’s roof is extremely important, and it is paramount that it is in its best shape at all times. This is not a task that should be left to DIY skills so be sure to do your research for the best roofing contractor in San Marcos, TX or your local area. You will want someone well recommended as this is a big undertaking.

If you have opted for a complete renovation of your roof, your investment will last for years to come, guaranteeing you to have the best structure over your head! When renovating your roof, you also have the chance to take into consideration more modern materials and alternatives, such as the best metal roof for residential properties.

Winter Proof Your Roof:

If you have opted for a metal roof, you can be sure that it will protect your family home against the elements for years to come. However, independently of how old your roof is, it is important to winter proof it. Cleaning it, removing debris, and preventing ice dams are just some of the important tasks to cover before the winter months come around. It is also vital to ensure that the roof is healthy and stable before any rain or snow happens.

Of course, your roof should be weather-proofed according to the climate you live in. If you live in an area prone to hurricanes, taking extra precautions is crucial. High winds and flying debris can cause significant damage, sometimes in ways that aren’t immediately visible. That’s why it’s wise to get roof damage assessment after a hurricane, even if your home appears unscathed. A professional inspection can help identify any underlying issues early, preventing more costly repairs down the line. Having a trusted expert lined up before storm season hits can make all the difference in protecting your home.

Regular Maintenance Is Key:

It would be impossible for homeowners to check what condition the roof is in at all times. Because of the limited accessibility this area offers, many homeowners tend to quickly check their roofs once a year or even less regularly. However, if you are looking to increase its lifespan, you should consider getting your roof professionally inspected and maintained once a year, at least.

To make this easier, it is usually best to simply hire a professional roofer to do it for you. With their help, you will know exactly what is going on with your roof, as well as whatever repairs might need to take place in order to keep it in good shape. Your roofer could then carry out those repairs, sometimes even on the same day as inspection. This will help with the regular maintenance of your roof, so it’s well worth it.

Make the Most Out of Your Roof Space:

Your home’s roof should not just be an extra surface to look after. The roof is a valuable space that is actively part of your home, and if you feel like it is not used at its best, then you might consider investing in alternative projects. For example, you could decide to install solar panels. This might represent an unnecessary investment at first. However, once your solar panels are up, your whole household can count on clean energy for years to come.

Check It from the Inside:

An excellent way to check the health of your roof is from the inside. Head up towards your attic and check the ceiling. If you see signs of mold, humidity, or mildew, you might consider a more extensive inspection. Humidity might have damaged the inner part of the roof. Cracks and peeling paint are also telltale signs that a thorough inspection is in order. However, if none of these signs are visible, you might consider postponing a more comprehensive check until after the winter season.

Keep the roof over your head in best shape for years to come with the tips above!

Simple Tips When Caring For Elderly Relatives

Standard
Simple Tips When Caring For Elderly Relatives

Looking after the people you care about is always a priority in life. Whether young or old, you want to make sure that your family is in a good position, and there are plenty of ways to achieve this goal. As the people in your family get older, the types of care they might need will become clearer. The caregiver meaning for yourself will also be more clearly defined as you consider the steps needed to ensure the best life possible for your loved one. This can create challenges, especially if your loved ones need permanent care, but there are tips that you can follow to make this easier for yourself. Let’s take a look at some of your options to get you started:

Emergency alarms:

Having an emergency alarm to use when they desperately need help can make caring for your loved ones much easier. This will take away the stress of checking on them all the time, giving them the freedom they want while enabling you to maintain a normal life. Tools like this can prove life-saving in certain circumstances, with just about every care facility in the world providing them. You can buy special pendants that can either connect to your phone or a special operator that will be available at all times.

Assistance:

Sometimes, you may not be able to be there for your elderly parents all of the time. This issue typically occurs if you still work full time or perhaps live too far away to drop everything to visit. As much as you can fill their home with upgrades and accessories to make living alone as a senior easier and safer, you can also explore at home care services to check in with your parents when you’re unable to reach them.

Having an extra support system with help at home is a great thing for your relative and yourself as well. Experiencing burnout is very common when you are trying to handle everything all by yourself and can leave you feeling physically and mentally drained. Coordinating with home care services can provide you with the free time you need to take care of yourself without worrying about your relative’s safety while you are away.

Walk-in baths:

Being able to clean themselves is a key element of your family member’s independence. Having a wet room can be perfect if they are disabled, making it easier for them to clean themselves and for carers to do parts of the job for them. Walk-in tubs are better for those with more mobility, but who would still like to be able to get into the bath or shower without assistance. Walk-in bath tub installation isn’t too expensive, especially when you consider the difference it can make.

Ramps:

Even when you’re not dealing with someone with a disability, you’d be surprised at how useful ramps can be when used in the right circumstances. Small steps can get harder and harder to climb as someone gets older, but ramps ease this process, giving your loved ones the chance to make their own way into their homes. Stair lifts can be good for full sets of stairs, though this can be quite pricey if you want an option that will last for a long time.

Key safes:

Being able to access the home of your loved one is crucial if you want to be able to look after them. Key safes are a great way to be able to give access to a group of people without having to have loads of keys to keep track of. If you need a doctor to visit when you’re not there, for example, you can have them use the key safe to let themselves in if there isn’t an answer at the door. Like an alarm, this can prove to be invaluable.

With all of this in mind, you should be feeling ready to make your life caring for your loved ones a little bit simpler. There are more options out there to help with this, making it well worth doing your research before you decide which you will choose.
