How We Can Improve The Health Of Society

How We Can Improve The Health Of Society

There’s no clear route towards creating a better society; indeed, some of the things that we think push us forward actually lead to more problems than they solve. But there is one field that undoubtedly serves to make us better: the improvement of healthcare. As a society, we have a duty to take a look at the health issues that cause the most damage to the population and take steps to move beyond them. While there are many areas of health that deserve attention, it’s best to start with the ones that are among the leading causes of death, which include heart disease, strokes, and diabetes.

It falls to public health officials to identify the threats that lead to serious medical issues and to educate the public about what they can do to protect themselves. As well as underlying health conditions, there must also be a spotlight on social factors that can impact a person’s health and quality of life, including alcohol and drug abuse, and accidents on the roads.

So how do you go about helping to eradicate these problems? It involves looking at the data, and making a note of any sharp increases in the numbers of people suffering from certain conditions and then looking at the lifestyle changes that might have contributed to this increase.

If you are interested in this topic, then you can look at becoming a public health official yourself. To learn more about the challenges and responsibilities of this position, take a look at the infographic below:

Perfect Valentine’s Day Gifts For Your Girlfriend

Perfect Valentine’s Day Gifts For Your Girlfriend

Hi! Valentine’s Day is getting closer and closer which can serve as a friendly reminder of the love you have for your partner OR that you are truly all alone in this world. 😉 I kid, I kid. Despite having a boyfriend, I think Valentine’s Day is a bunch of garbage and your relationship should be celebrated every day, not just on February 14th.

However, it will be nice to have a special day with my beau and I’m sure that those who are participating in V-Day are looking forward to it too. Frankly, I’d be hyped for Valentine’s Day even if I didn’t have a partner because it gives me the perfect excuse to drink wine and eat chocolate!

Speaking of wine and chocolate, how about we discuss some great gifts for the special lady in your life? And, be sure to tune in tomorrow when we explore some gifts for the fellas. Let’s get to it:

The Classics:

Some will find the gifting of the classics on Valentine’s Day lame or cheesy. However, I would be so amped up to receive sweet gifts like heart-shaped boxes of chocolate, a bouquet of flowers, or a good bottle of vino from my boyfriend. I find that the simplest gifts are the most effective and your ladyfriend will be tickled by the adoring gesture of a timeless variety of gifts.

Pampering, Please:

If you have a hard working, independent woman in your life, a treatment at the spa might be just what the doctor ordered. How about splurging on couples massages? Or a mani/pedi package for your princess? Pop some champagne, relax, and enjoy.

On a budget? No matter! Run a nice, hot bath with rose petals in it, light some candles, and turn on some Barry White. It works every time. 😉

Hopeless Romantic:

If you are overwhelmed with feelings of love for your girlfriend, fiance, or wife and have a way with words, perhaps a poem or a letter would be the perfect gift. Nothing is more swoon worthy than reading all of the reasons why your boyfriend loves you and it is something that you can keep for forever.

Date Night In:

Contrary to popular belief, Valentine’s Day isn’t about fancy dinners and posting your new heart shaped jewelry on Facebook. Rather, it’s about celebrating the bond between you and your partner. If you’re not into the hoopla of V-Day, plan a date night in. Cook a delicious dinner, don’t skimp on the chocolate cake, and play your lady’s favorite movie while enjoying a glass of wine. Beautiful.

Over The Top:

If you have the extra cash burning a hole in your pocket, plan a nice weekend getaway. You don’t have to travel far, two or three hours will do. But, a weekend together in a lovely B&B or hotel to celebrate the holiday is a definite treat. Look into Valentine’s Day suites or packages wherever you are staying for the best deals or a special gift from the location. New York City is a popular option for a getaway as there is just so much to do! You could see a Broadway show, visit museums, or opt for a spot of shopping and bbq in Soho for lunch. Wherever you go, plan at least one special date to truly take your Valentine’s Day over the top.

In this post, we explored different options for every budget to make this Valentine’s Day the best one yet for you and your partner. You’re welcome in advance! 😉 ❤

How are you celebrating V-Day? What are you gifting your loved one with? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

When Can You Say That You’ve ‘Made It’?

Standard
When Can You Say That You’ve ‘Made It’?

Perhaps the easiest thing in the world to do is compare yourself to other people. As children, we learn this technique to help us understand our place in the social hierarchy, for better or worse. As we get older and compare our grades to other children or our siblings, we continually find out if we’re ‘good enough’ or where we’re lagging behind.

This can translate into adulthood, where the means of our livelihood or how much money we pull in each year can be somewhat intrusive areas of discussion at the Christmas work party or family barbecue. But when can you say that you’ve ‘made it’? We often use this term to express artists that now have enough listeners to guarantee material success, but should we really limit ourselves to this description?

In the following post, we hope to widen the parameters through which you may give yourself the real credit of ‘making it’, allowing us to think along healthier and more considered lines. Please, consider:

A Home You Love:

When occupying a home you love, you have one of the most vital and beautiful possessions anyone could hope for – no matter if you rent or use a mortgage to gain said property. A home you love can be a vital part of your personality, help you raise a family, or schedule the best social events within, and generally give you the room to be your most authentic self. General contractors can help you express your creative interests and tastes over the years, and that in itself gives you the opportunity to design to your hearts content. If you have this, no matter if you live alone or own a property in which you keep roommates or a humble family setup, you have something to be proud of.

Connections You Care About:

It’s very easy for us to mark ourselves as only successful when affluent, or able to define our material success this way. But really, the people we know, the loving connections we adopt, the closeness to our family, the genuine experiences we share with our friends – these are the things that count. It’s possible for someone living on a shoestring budget to enjoy and curate the closest relationships around them, while it’s also possible for someone within a beautiful, million-dollar home to feel completely isolated from those they are supposed to call friends. This realization can help you adjust your priorities accordingly.

Curating Your Interests:

Curating your interests is something that can seem so simple and basic. We’re all supposed to have hobbies. But more than simply watching something on Netflix or playing a video game (which are more than justified methods of relaxing and taking some stress off), curating a real interest can help bring you an incredible amount of joy over the years. It might be reading into a subject, learning a craft, or cooking well and eating a wide array of cuisines. We take interests for granted, but really, we should appreciate them as additional pursuits that give our life value. If you have a few of these to curate, you are truly a lucky individual.

With this advice, we hope you can see the conventional idea of ‘making it’ is only worthwhile when contributing to a healthy, humble life!

Making Learning Fun

Making Learning Fun

Young kids love to learn. They are like sponges, soaking up any knowledge that they are offered. They are keen to learn and to practice new skills. Then, as they get older, things start to change. They might start to rebel against the idea of learning, avoiding studying, and complain about active learning. They might moan about going to school or hate the idea of sitting down to do their homework. As parents, we’re in a unique position to show them that learning can always be fun. That enjoyment of education isn’t something that gets left behind when school learning becomes more academically focused. Here are some of the things that you could try.

Create Puzzles:

Creating puzzles is a really easy way to learn but also to reinforce knowledge and help with knowledge retention. Use WordMint to create word searches and crosswords around subjects that they are studying or otherwise interested in. Alternatively, let them create puzzles, using their own knowledge, for you to complete. They’ll love being the teacher for a change.

Use Your Imagination:

Very young children learn a lot through pretend play. They learn how a kitchen works by pretending to cook for you. They learn about dinosaurs by pretending to explore a Jurassic world. Not only is imaginative play plain fun but it also provides children with a plethora of benefits in language and cognitive development. Imaginative play can still be a valuable learning tool for older children, but you might want to bring in some tools, such as Lego, to help them to immerse themselves in a pretend world.

Manipulate Objects:

Playing with LEGO, building a fort, or even learning how to use a microscope are all fun ways to encourage learning by doing. Tactile play helps hone children’s social, emotional, and cognitive skills all while having fun! What’s great about these strategies is that they can be applied across various subjects and can be designed in many different ways so your options are limitless!

Read Stories:

Fiction is a great way to learn more about different worlds, times, and ways of life. Find stories set in times or places that they are learning about. Even big blockbuster films about topics of study can be an effective way to learn, as long as you take the time to sort fact from fiction and clue them in.

Make a Mess:

Messy play can be a great way to learn. Experiment with basic chemistry, use play-doh to craft volcanoes or mountain ranges. Paint seas and sea life. Getting messy is such fun, get some supplies, enjoy crafting, creating, and building together. Just try not to get stressed out about the mess!

Talk About What You’ve Seen:

Encourage learning by talking about what you have seen and done. Don’t just build a model or watch a film and then leave it at that. Speak about what you’ve seen or experienced. Encourage your child to ask questions and ask them your own. Spend time researching anything that they want to know more about and enjoy open debate.

Get Outdoors:

Getting outdoors is a great way to learn more about nature and the world around us and inspire conversation. Give them the freedom to explore and let them lead you on a trek through your local parks.

Learning never has to be boring. Use the tips above and watch your child’s interest in education grow!

The Ultimate Gift Guide For The Love Of Your Life

The Ultimate Gift Guide For The Love Of Your Life

You might think that Christmas has only just said goodbye for another year, but you will need to get your gift giving juices flowing again as Valentine’s Day is creeping up on the horizon. If you are in the throes of love, then chances are that you want to show your beloved exactly how much you care on the 14th of February. While those more miserable amongst us might be worried about the commercialization of the day of love, it is still pleasant to make your loved one feel special. Whether you are in a new relationship or whether you have been happily married for decades, take a look at these wonderful gift giving ideas:

Jewelry:

There can’t be many more romantic gifts than jewelry for your loved one. You might choose to go down a relatively traditional route and choose a ring or a necklace for your darling. Or perhaps opal bracelets and their stunningly unique designs might be more up your street. If you are tempted by a piece of jewelry, consider the colors that your beloved adores. White gold is very on trend at the moment as is titanium and rose gold. The more traditional diamonds and yellow gold jewelry items are still as popular as ever. Or, you might want to go the fully customized route for a one of a kind piece of jewelry on a website like Holts Gems. How special to have a necklace or ring that no one else in the world has! For the man in your life, why not consider cufflinks or a tie pin. Just because they might not be a big fan of the bling, something small and classic could make them smile on Valentine’s Day.

Experience Gifts:

If you are tempted to look for something a little more unusual or your loved one is a bit tricky to buy for why not consider a more experiential gift. Think about what your soulmate adores and think about their personality type. If your beloved is an adrenaline junkie, think about purchasing them a bungee jump, a chance to skydive out of a plane at five thousand feet or perhaps a driving experience would be more worthwhile. You could buy them a sand dune drive, a rally drive, or a lap around a track in a Formula 3 race car.

For those individuals who aren’t as thrill seeking, something more relaxing might be better. A spa weekend or a relaxing reiki head massage experience may light your loved one’s face up. Alternatively, you could book a weekend away and treat yourself to a couples holiday to spend some quality time together.

Traditional:

If money is tight or you are looking to save your pennies for a big ticket item, think about making your gift a little smaller. There’s nothing wrong with going down the traditional albeit slightly cheesy route. You could pick up a bunch of roses and a box of chocolates for single figures. The scale of the gift isn’t important, it is the thought behind it. You might even fancy whipping up a home cooked three course romantic meal for your loved one. These gifts are more thoughtful and special. Forget about the grand gestures and opt for the more romantic.

Follow this guide and you can be sure of a romantic and special Valentine’s Day!

Buy sustainably:

Buying sustainable products is going to massively help the environment. If you buy locally, it’s better for the environment and for your local community to bring money to your hometown as well as buying local which means less gas and energy has been used to bring it to you. How To Save Money When Buying Electrical Goods

Standard
How To Save Money When Buying Electrical Goods

We live in a fast-paced consumer society where all of the electrical items that we buy are out of date by next year. With many households changing their appliances and tech on a very regular basis, it means that there is a lot of waste. Perfectly good items often end up getting discarded and this has a very real and obvious impact on the environment.

But many people are considerate about these factors and will sell on any unwanted electrical items once they have been replaced. Or, where the value is relatively low, and there is still some use to be had, they may give them away using a service such as a freecycle site.

You can save money on your electricity bill by choosing the right provider. However, if you are savvy and want to save money on an item and are not too bothered about having all of the very latest features, then you may want to take a look online to see what you can find for free or very cheap:

Printers:

One electrical item that is often offered up for next to nothing or even for free are printers. On the other hand, vinyl printers are much more expensive but a worthy investment if you have a business. With new features getting added all of the time, many people feel the need to upgrade. But, if you are just after something that you can use to print or scan the occasional document or photograph, then you may find that getting a used model is just as good as buying new. Before you get your new used printer, check online to make sure that you can buy the right ink cartridges for it still.

Appliances:

Kitchen appliances such as washing machines, fridges, and freezers, often get replaced. With the internet of things on the rise, people want an appliance that they can control from their smartphone from anywhere in the world. But if you are not interested in all of that, you could get a perfectly reasonable appliance for very cheap.

Before you take it, make sure that you check to see that there are no nasty noises coming from it when it is working. Washing machines that rattle about when they are in use may be on their way out and, in reality, it is probably not worth you taking it in that condition.

Computers:

If you need a computer for the basics such as web browsing and working on documents, then why not get a second hand one? Unless you are gaming or using the computer for a lot of complex operations, then you will be able to get a computer that suits your needs very cheaply.

The things that you need to look for when you get a second hand computer are that the hard disk has been cleared before you get it. It should have a new installation of the operating system ready for you to set up as you like. Check to make sure that the laptop batteries still hold their charge, and that everything boots up and works as it should.

Reusing electric goods helps save the environment and you some money. Try this option out when you’re ready for a new printer or computer!

5 Signs You Need To Visit An Emergency Dentist

5 Signs You Need To Visit An Emergency Dentist

Although it may be a little overwhelming, deciding whether or not you need to visit an emergency dental practice can be difficult. Whether you’ve been experiencing a lot of pain or you’ve been in an accident that has caused damage to your teeth, you need to be sure you know exactly when you need to see a professional. Whilst not everything will be considered an emergency, it’s important for you to know when you need medical attention. With that in mind, here are 5 signs you need to visit an emergency dentist:

You’re Experiencing Severe Pain:

One of the main reasons you need to book yourself an emergency dentist appointment is if you’re experiencing severe pain. Although toothaches can be incredibly painful, you need to be in severe agony to be able to consider an emergency appointment. Whether that means your pain doesn’t subside with tablets or it means you’re unable to do day-to-day activities, if you’re in pain you need to see someone straight away. For at-home ways to treat severe toothache, you can visit this site here.

You’ve Been In An Accident That Has Damaged Your Tooth:

If you have been in an accident that has damaged your tooth, you need to book an appointment as soon as you possibly can. Although you may not be able to fix the issue right away, the sooner you see a professional the better. Not only will they be able to tell you the type of treatment you need, but they’ll be able to give you something to help with the pain. For advice when it comes to damaging a tooth, you can visit this site here.

You’ve Been Referred By A Professional:

Another sign you need to visit an emergency dental office is if you have been referred by another medical professional. Although you may not feel as though you’re in a medical emergency, a toothache can affect several other parts of your body. From earaches to sore throats, you may find that a dentist is able to help.

Your Pain Hasn’t Subsided:

If you have visited the dentist with an issue in the past and the pain still hasn’t subsided, you may want to book an appointment to see them again. If the pain is getting worse, you need to ensure you’re booking an emergency appointment, as it could be something serious. If you can’t get an appointment right away, you might want to consider calling an out of hours helpline.

There’s No Other Practice Open:

Finally, if there is no other practice open and you think you need help right away, it might be best to book an emergency appointment. If you’re unsure, the dental office will also be able to advise you as to whether or not you can wait until your regular practice is open again.

If you are experiencing extreme problems with your teeth, use the advice above and act accordingly!
