Sleep Trouble: What’s Keeping You Awake At Night?

Sleep Trouble: What’s Keeping You Awake At Night?

There’s been a growing trend in the wellness, health, and fitness industries towards helping people get a better night’s sleep. Given that around 45 percent of all individuals in the country are struggling to catch enough sleep every night, that can only be a good thing. Regular readers of my blog might remember my struggles with getting good sleep, and there’s every chance that almost half of you reading this will be experiencing something similar. And it’s a huge issue. You end up being less productive in the day, it affects your general health, and it can even result in conditions such as obesity, depression, and diabetes.

Scary, right? And it’s no surprise that many of us want to fix out sleep problems! The key to that is, of course, working out why you can’t get to sleep properly, which will give you the chance to address the issue. So, in today’s guide, we’re going to go through some of the most common factors that are lying behind many people’s sleep problems. Let’s take a closer look:

sleepy1

Zzzzz

Physical Pain: First of all, do you have pain problems? If you have a bad back or suffer from regular headaches, for example, it can be affecting your sleep. Try taking a warm shower or bath before going to bed – it will relax your muscles and give you the chance of getting a better quality of sleep than you are having right now. See your doctor, too, and talk to them about some basic pain management tips. Your doc might recommend heat pads or even painkillers on a temporary basis. Long-term care might involve physiotherapy which can help ease pain sans surgery. If this is the route you’d like to take, simply enter a search for “Best Physiotherapy clinic near me”. Be sure to read reviews to ensure that patients are satisfied with the care and voice any concerns you might have to your doctor too before making a final decision.

Mental Anguish: Other common causes of poor sleep are stress and anxiety. In an increasingly busy and stressful world, many of us battle against active brains that prevent us from getting some shut-eye. Most people will experience this at some point. The mind goes into overdrive, going through all of your problems in fine detail, and the more you think, the more your anxiety levels increase – meaning you slip into a vicious feedback loop. Yoga can help with this issue, as can mindfulness – the key to getting over your problem is to try and turn off your brain and prevent those intrusive thoughts from occurring in the first place.

sleepy2

Admittedly not the best place to fall asleep!

Environmental Issues: There is a vast range of environmental issues that can prevent you from sleeping properly. Internal factors include bed bugs, which can keep you up at night and cause intense itching, according to the Pest Control of Alabama. There are also external factors such as noise pollution and noisy neighbors, too – could the outside world be keeping you up at night?

Think about installing double – or triple – glazed windows if you want to reduce the impact of the former. For the latter, you have to play it carefully,. Talk to your neighbors first and most will tone it down a little. However, you can also contact your local EHP practitioner to act on your behalf if they continue to cause you problems.

How To Improve Your Physical, Mental, And Spiritual Health

How To Improve Your Physical, Mental, And Spiritual Health

In the hustle and bustle of daily life, it can seem almost impossible to find the time to look out for Number One: Yourself. Creating a healthy lifestyle not only for your physical well being but for your mental and spiritual self, as well, can only benefit you in the long run. In this article, we will explore some simple changes that you can employ for a better, healthier you:

Your Physical Health

Start Eating Well: There’s nothing better for your health than making sure that you eat good food cooked from scratch. Convenience foods may be handy but they often contain more sodium and sugar than you should be eating, which can affect your fitness and moods. Start meal planning so you don’t get stuck for what you should have for lunch or dinner and make sure that you eat breakfast so you aren’t tempted to snack on candy and junk food during the morning at work.

Get Physically Fit: If you don’t feel as though you’re at peak physical condition, now is the time to change that. You don’t necessarily have to go to the gym every day after work – instead, start walking more and make sure that you start to take the stairs instead of the elevator whenever you can. Start a class like yoga or Zumba – you could even take a friend along with you for moral support and a good laugh!

Take Care Of Your Senses: As much as we may rely on them, we often overlook our senses when it comes to making positive changes for our health. Ensure a routine hearing check to get the full scope of your hearing health, and to see whether you might need hearing aids or not. Make appointments for eye tests, as well. As we get older, the chances of changes to these senses increase exponentially, so we have to be proactive in addressing them.

Pain Management: If your aches and pains feel constant, it is not only a huge deterrent to your physical health but mental health too. This is not something that you should simply live with but find a way to improve. Clinics like next pain management roswell (or something similar in your local area) can provide personalized treatment plans to help you get back to feeling your best. With excellent pain management, you will notice a boost in your energy levels and overall sense of well being.

Namaste!

Deal With Your Chronic Conditions: If you have any chronic conditions, then it’s important that you deal with them carefully and that you get healthy to whatever extent that you can. If you have asthma, make sure that you use a preventative inhaler to stop yourself from getting tight chested and suffering from asthma attacks – Ventolin can be ordered online. If you suffer from chronic pain, make sure that you stay active and do gentle exercises to help ease the tension in stiff joints.

Your Mental Health

Learn Coping Strategies: If you suffer from panic attacks or depression, then it’s important that you try to learn coping strategies that will help get you through every day. Learn to identify issues that will affect you – perhaps you don’t like crowded trains or there are certain things that your boss says that rattles you – and focus on how you can better deal with them. Breathing deeply often works wonders as well as giving yourself plenty of time to deal with anything that might arise.

Go To Your Doctor: If you think that you may be suffering from mental health difficulties, then go to your doctor. It’s an illness like any other and you shouldn’t feel ashamed if you’re affected by a condition like depression or anxiety. They can negatively affect a lot of areas of your life, which means that you need to get them sorted out as quickly as possible. Therapy can help a lot of people, as can medication. Remember, you’d medicate a physical health ailment so why not your mental health, too?

Sleep Better: It’s very difficult to get much done during the day if you aren’t sleeping well. If the light comes into your bedroom in the morning and wakes you up, then why not invest in blackout blinds? You should also make sure that you turn off all of your technology like your laptop and phone before you go to bed, because they can keep you awake. Instead, use the hour before you go to sleep as an excuse to have a lavender scented shower, read a book, or light some candles and meditate.

Learn To Be Alone: If you don’t spend much time by yourself, now is the time to start. Learning to love yourself begins with realizing that you’re an interesting person to be around. Make sure that you indulge yourself in your hobbies – you can go to see movies alone, you can go to galleries, to shows, to concerts. Take a solo vacation and luxuriate in the joy of having only your own whims to attend to.

Be Around Good People: One of the battles of everyday life is instantly won when you’re around good people who truly listen and want the best for you. If you have any old friends who don’t make you feel good anymore, it’s okay to gently phase them out of your life. Friends who challenge you and make you think are great but if your friends don’t support you, they might not be a healthy fit for your current lifestyle.

Be Kind To Yourself: Finally, you need to make sure that you treat yourself with as much kindness as you treat others. Cut yourself some slack – make sure that you have a night in by yourself if you feel tired and worn out by other people and don’t beat yourself up too much for any little embarrassing moments. We often tend to treat ourselves a lot less kindly than we would treat others so try to remember how supportive you’d be for someone in your situation and treat yourself the same way. And remember: You’re one hundred and fifty percent totally awesome.

Simple Changes For Better Spring Cleaning

Standard
Simple Changes For Better Spring Cleaning

Famously, around this time of year many people often go to work on cleaning their houses as good as possible. Of course, in real life you need to do this much more often, but it is still worth having one really deep clean around this time of year. Even if it is just to make yourself feel better in the home, it is totally worth it. If you do it right, you will probably find that everyone who lives there is much more relaxed and able to feel comfortable in the new found cleanliness, so for that reason alone it is worthwhile. If you are about to embark on your own spring cleaning project, make sure you bear the following in mind for a better, cleaner result:

Declutter First: To clean your house in the best way possible is to be logical about the order in which you do it. This means that you should make an effort to clear anything that doesn’t need to be there first. Decluttering is something that people often skim over, thinking that they are doing it right, when actually their methods are not anywhere near as effective or lasting as they could be. Consider that, although it is perfectly fine to simply stow things away in clever storage spaces, it is even better to get rid of anything that you might be able to part with. You might choose to sell such belongings or give them away to charity; either way, this is a much better long-term solution to your space problems.

Deep Washing: The main thing to remember about spring cleaning is that it needs to be as deep as possible. This will probably mean, in most circumstances, that you will need to use equipment and tools which are different than the ones you normally use. If you are used to using usual household products, then you might want to think about trying to use something different for your spring cleaning. For example, getting your hands on a decent pressure washer to clean the carpets with is likely to be a great idea, as it will pick up dirt that you didn’t even know was there! If you have never used one before, don’t worry – you can learn more about pressure washers here before you start!

Room By Room: Another major mistake that people make is to clean the whole house in one go. This might seem to make sense, but it is much more effective on the whole if you simply go from room to room, fully cleaning each one as you go. You need to make sure that you are happy with one room before moving on to the next, as this is how you can ensure that you have cleaned all of the necessary areas as deep as possible. With any luck, you won’t need to do so again for quite a long time. Now, get to spring cleaning!

Jetting Off To Sunnier Climates? Make Sure Your Home Is Safe and Secure

Jetting Off To Sunnier Climates? Make Sure Your Home Is Safe and Secure

With January and February out of the way (easily the dullest and most depressing months of the year!) many of us are looking forward into 2017 and planning some of the fun things that we want to do. For some, this will mean an annual summer holiday, a week or two of great weather, delicious food, and plenty to see and do. However, as a homeowner, there’s always the major worry of home security when you go away. When your property is left unoccupied for a period of time, it dramatically increases your risk of a break in. Here are some of the ways that you can protect against this and get your home safe and secure by the time your summer vacation rolls around:

Get a Burglar Alarm Installed: If you don’t already have a burglar alarm installed, this should be high on your list of priorities. Not just useful for vacations but for day to day use, too. Did you know that most burglaries take place in the daytime? Being able to set the alarm when you go to work will thwart thieves who simply won’t stick around once the noise starts going off. It’s worth doing some research on the best home security systems and seeing which one suits you best.

Do you want an alarm that’s monitored? This means that if it goes off the security system call you (to see if it’s a false alarm) and if it’s not, they call the police. There’s a charge for this, but if you believe yourself to be especially high risk, it’s a good investment. Do you need an alarm which can be used with pets? This means that you can set it and your cat or dog won’t set it off. Either way, having a look at what’s on the market is your first step.

Invest in a High Quality CCTV System: CCTV is useful as it deters burglars (who want to minimize their risk of being caught) and if someone does try it, you have evidence. CCTV is also useful if you have vehicles outside of your home because if any damage or theft occurs, you will have video proof of what happened. Go with a system that records footage to a cloud-based server. That way if someone breaks into your home, they can’t just take the computer that the footage is stored on. You need a camera that records clearly because police won’t accept grainy recordings if you ever need to use it as evidence.

Consider Smart Lighting: ‘Smart home’ devices are becoming increasingly popular. Lighting is particularly useful from a home security perspective as it allows you to turn the lights in your home on and off without you being there. You control everything from an app on your phone so that you can give the illusion of someone being home and moving around in the property. Alternatively, you could use classic timer switches which are a much cheaper option. You can set lamps, televisions, and radios to go on and off at different times to further enhance the “I’m here but secretly I’m not” appearance.

Sore Throat When You Wake Up?

Sore Throat When You Wake Up?

Do you wake up from a refreshing night’s sleep only to find that your morning has been ruined before it’s even got started as you feel that familiar pain when you swallow? Having a sore throat in the morning is a fairly common complaint and although it’s irritating, it is rarely a cause for concern. Of course, just because a sore throat isn’t going to kill you doesn’t mean that it can’t be really annoying when it happens, which is why you need to know what you are dealing with so that you can put your morning sore throats to bed once and for all. Here are some of the most common causes of sore throats upon waking:

Snoring: When you snore, your mouth is open and your throat can get quite dry because of all the air that you are taking in. If you wake up only to find that your throat is hoarse and dry, it could be that you are snoring and should try to record yourself sleeping for a few nights or ask your sleeping partner to listen out, if you have one. If you are snoring a lot, take a look at http://www.webmd.com/sleep-disorders/features/easy-snoring-remedies#1 to sort the problem out and start waking up pain-free.

Dehydration: If you don’t drink enough fluids before you hit the hay or if your room is too dry, you could become dehydrated through the night. This, like snoring, can cause your throat to dry up and become sore.

Acid Reflux: If you wake up not only to a sore throat but also to an unpleasant sour taste in your mouth, there is a good chance that acid reflux could be the problem. Acid reflux is a condition in which the acid in your stomach partially comes back up through the esophagus. It can cause stomach pain, heartburn, and sore throats (and bad breath!!). You can deal with acid reflux by following the steps at https://chriskresser.com/get-rid-of-heartburn-and-gerd-forever-in-three-simple-steps/. If reflux continues to be a problem after this, see a doctor

A Swollen Uvula: The uvula is that small bit of skin that hangs down at the back of your mouth. It can become inflamed and swollen when you are sick with a virus or infection, or when there is too much bacteria in the area. Although you are likely to experience throat pain all day when you have a swollen uvula, it could be the case that some of the other factors mentioned in this post can increase your throat pain when you wake up in the morning. You can find out more about the uvula at https://safesymptoms.com/swollen-uvula/ .

Upper Respiratory Infection: If your upper airway is infected, your nose will begin to produce more mucus than before as a form of defense against the invading virus. Sometimes, this mucus trickles down to the back of your throat when you’re sleeping and it can inflame, irritate, and dry out the area – meaning that your throat will be pretty sore in the morning.

If you continue to experience a sore throat upon waking for a prolonged period of time, you should definitely have it checked out by a doctor. Chances are it’ll be nothing serious, but it’s always best to know. And waking up ache free at the start of your day will also be an added plus!

Make Your Bedroom Stylish and Sleep-Friendly

Make Your Bedroom Stylish and Sleep-Friendly

Hiiii everyone and welcome to a guest post by my favorite home decor guru, Chloe! Miss Chloe has been featured on my page quite a few times and it is always such a treat to have her. Take a look at her latest post, where she will help you create a perfectly styled and sleep worthy bedroom:

Make Your Bedroom Stylish and Sleep-Friendly:

The quality of your sleep can highly influence your energy levels, mood, and productivity during the day. In that respect, the way you decorate and organize your sleep chamber can be of immense importance when it comes to providing yourself with a good night of rest. If you’re experiencing trouble sleeping, make sure to take a good look at your bedroom. Its design may be the key for your perfect comfort.

1. Is there a lot of clutter?

There has been plenty of research on the negative influence of clutter on the human mind and this can be especially obvious in the bedroom. This is a place where you need to relax and drift off to a dream land and clutter can only cause problems. The first and easiest thing that you can do is to create a chore list so that you can keep your bedroom neat and tidy. That way, you will prevent mental pressure and stress caused by your own personal environment.

style1

Also, is there a cat?

2. Do you have enough space?

This step is linked to the clutter issue. Sometimes, it’s not enough to simply tidy up your bedroom. If you don’t have room for all of your stuff, the first thing that you should do is declutter. This means that apart from putting everything in its respective place, you should also get rid of things that you don’t need.

If you have clothes that you haven’t worn for more than six months, it’s probably wise to give them away. On the other hand, your problem might be related to the lack of storage. Make sure to utilize your wardrobe doors to the fullest. Wall cabinets can really come in handy in a bedroom as well as a chest of drawers. Chests of drawers are not only functional for clothing storage but housing decor like photographs, reed diffusers, and jewelry boxes. You can search Bespoke Furniture for storage inspiration to keep your bedroom clutter free and stylish with statement pieces.

style2

^ I would love a hanging rack like this!

3. Do you enjoy the color scheme?

You may not even be aware of just how much the choice of colors can influence your ability to relax and fall asleep. In general, you should introduce colors that feel pleasant to you into your bedroom. But, this doesn’t mean that you should go overboard with vibrant shades and intricate patterns.

A stylish and functional bedroom should feature soothing tones and hues. You should also keep things relatively minimal when color combos are concerned. The best way to achieve a nice, calming look is to opt for a soft wall shade, an equally soft, warm shade for furniture, and then spice things up just a little with slightly bolder colors for sheets, covers, and cushions.

style3

4. Do you feel comfortable?

The appearance of your bedroom is not the only thing that has effect on your sleep. There are also some technical questions that need to be dealt with. For example, if your lighting is too bright and strong, you will struggle more to relax and drift off to sleep. This is especially true for those of you who like to read or check your smartphones in bed.

Make sure to use mood lighting and, if possible, install dimmer switches. Air quality is another essential factor ensuring you a proper sleep schedule. If dust bothers you or you suffer from seasonal allergies, you should install a quality air purifier for allergies in your bedroom. Not only will this improve your sleep but the quality of your lifestyle altogether, too.

style4

Pretty!

5. Is the decor pleasing?

The bedroom is the most intimate area of one’s home but that doesn’t mean that you should overload it with personal decor and other sentimental bits and pieces. On the contrary, it is said that you should avoid using photographs of your friends and family and go for soothing scenery paintings, instead. A scented candle, plants, warm rugs, and interesting curtains are perfectly fine, but anything more than that can actually disrupt your sleep schedule and prevent you from dozing off properly.

style5

Also pretty!

Remember, you don’t need too much stuff or color for your bedroom to be stylish and cozy. By keeping things relatively minimal yet sticking to your personal taste, you’ll be able to enjoy a good night of rest and wake up motivated for a new day, every day.

^^^ Thank you again for such a wonderful post, Chloe girl! How does your bedroom reflect your personality? What is a funny or weird item that you keep in your room? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

Getting Off To The Best Start With Your Pup

Standard
Getting Off To The Best Start With Your Pup

Welcoming a new dog into the home should be and is a joyous occasion. Then, the honeymoon period quickly starts sharing room with the realization of the demands that a pet brings with them. Whether you’re a new owner or this is your first new dog in a while, it’s important to get a refresher on how to turn them from little strangers to a family member in no time:

Make Sure You’re Ready For Them: It’s vital that you take your responsibilities as a dog owner as seriously as possible. They have needs and they look solely to you to help them fulfill them. You have to know what those needs are before they come in the home. Who is going to feed them, walk them, and play with them? Do you have the budget to take care of all the costs in food, bedding, and vet visits? We don’t want to put anyone off getting a dog. However, if your family isn’t ready for them, then you should reconsider for the sake of the animal and the family.

Welcome Them In The Home: Having a space for the dog is important. You need to think about how much space they’re going to take when sleeping and make sure that you get a bedding area that’s both big and comfortable enough. You also have to know that dogs, young pups especially, are going to try to get into just about anything. For that reason, pet-proofing the home is vital. You need to make sure that no food or dangerous little odds and ends are in reach of them. You should also make sure that your houseplants are not poisonous to your new pet.

Get Up To Date On Their Health: Finding a good veterinary surgeon as soon as possible has to be on the agenda. Not only because you want someone who you can go to in an emergency but you also need the sources that can keep you up to date on all the essentials of keeping the pup healthy. Their immunizations, regular pest control treatments, getting them microchipped, and so on. Keep a schedule of those essential visits and don’t be afraid to ask the vet for any advice that you might need.

Don’t forget regular cleanings for their teeth and nail trimming too. Your vet will have the best veterinary dental equipment to be able to treat any major issues or can recommend you to a great groomer for maintenance visits.

Train Your Pup: It’s just as essential that you make sure your dog is becoming the kind of family dog that you want. Early habits like potty training and chewing on things aren’t the only habits that you should be concerned about. Many people neglect to get their dog properly socialized, which means that they can bark, jump up, and even display aggressive behavior to new people and animals alike. One of the habits that the humans in the relationship need to make sure that they don’t get into is feeding the dog scraps. Doing that too often can make it so that the dog’s palate doesn’t quite enjoy dog food the same way and instead they spend their free time looking for even more treats. It might be endearing, but when they’re constantly trying to jump up to your dinner plate, it can get old very fast.

Taking care of a whole new creature brings with it plenty of challenges. But do it right and you’ll end up with one of the most loyal friends your family could have! <333

Finding Work: Get Ahead Of The Competition

Finding Work: Get Ahead Of The Competition

It can be a difficult time when you are looking for work, especially if the roles you are going for are particularly competitive. The truth is, everyone worries when they are in this situation that they will not be good enough or that they won’t get the job that they want. As long as you are keen to focus on continually improving yourself, however, you should find that the process is not as hard as you might have thought. In this article, we are going to look at some of the essential things that you should think about doing if you want to get ahead of your competition as easily and quickly as possible. With any luck, following this advice should help you greatly in the long run, thanks to some pretty simple solutions:

Apply For More Jobs: This first piece of advice might sound too simple to be effective, but the truth is very often that those who succeed in their work efforts are those who put more work into applying for jobs. If you think about it, this makes perfect sense. After all, you need to be doing everything in your power to increase your chances of finding work, and one of the most important things in that regard is the simple act of applying for more work. The more you apply for, the more you are opening yourself up to possible chances and the more luck you will have on the whole. If you are worried that the quality of your applications is not as good as it could be, then practicing or attending resume workshops is the best way to fix that problem. Either way, applying to numerous places is always going to be a top solution for the issue.

Get Qualified In Your Field: Hopefully, you will be applying for a relatively slim area of jobs, as it is this focus which enables you to get ahead more easily. It also means that you can more easily prepare for the roles you are likely to get. What’s more, you can get qualified in the area that you are interested in so that you are a much more attractive prospect to those potential employers than your rival candidates. The more qualifications you can get in your field, the better off you will be, so make sure that you are doing everything you can to get as qualified as possible.

Do your best to ensure that you are going for qualifications which are as specific to the desired roles as possible. If you are keen to be a nurse, then look at what your local nursing schools have to offer. If you want to be a teacher, then look into getting your teaching diploma from a reputable institution. It is hard to overstate just how important the qualifications can be. Make sure that you are doing everything you can to be more qualified than your fellow candidates.

Work On Your Confidence: A lot of people have trouble with developing confidence but, the truth is, is that confidence is a skill which can be developed just like any other. If you are wanting to become a more confident person, then the first step is to realize that you have within you all of the necessary ability to do so. All you really need is a change in attitude, and then you will find that this is reflected in the outside world. To work on your confidence in the particular area of job hunting, however, it is simply a matter of practice.

Go to as many interviews as possible, treat them like practice, and you will soon be speaking and presenting yourself in a much better manner. As long as you want something enough, it is likely that you can easily work on your confidence to the point of getting it. The trick is to fake it till you make it, in that very often confidence is merely a show. With some time and patience, you can become more confident than you have ever been before.

Networking: Although you might not like the idea initially, networking actually often proves to be a very powerful way of increasing your chances of success in the world of work. As with anything else of this nature, networking takes some practice, but it can be easily achieved as long as you are happy to put the necessary effort in. With any luck, this will ensure that you massively increase your chances of landing that ideal job and beating the competition.

Alternative Ways To Boost Your Self Confidence

Alternative Ways To Boost Your Self Confidence

Sometimes it is really hard to find the confidence in ourselves to meet new people, start up conversations, or to sell ourselves to others. Insecurities about our own personal worth shouldn’t be taken lightly. Everyone has a place on the earth, sometimes we just need to work out where that is. Selling yourself to someone, regardless of the reason, is never going to be productive if your heart isn’t in it or you don’t believe in yourself.

The more time you spend outside of your comfort zone, the more you will begin to realize just how capable you are. Pushing yourself to take on new challenges will broaden your skill sets and help you see that there is nothing that you can’t achieve if you set your mind to it. When it comes to approaching new people, it can be hard to know where to begin.  Especially if the person you are talking to is someone from the office who gives you butterflies whenever they walk past. Perhaps you hear yourself saying ‘he doesn’t even know I exist’ when really, he does. Your man crush is just waiting for you to give him a sign.

Practice talking to new people by striking up conversation with people around you who may not end up playing a leading future role in your life. From a taxi driver you will never see again to the lady who orders her coffee the same time as you in the morning. Begin with a smile and a happy ‘good morning’, then increase the interaction the next time you see them, by asking them how they are. After a few weeks of practice chatting to strangers you might realize that you are a nice person to talk to and make the first step towards date night with Mr Hot Office. ;)))))

confident1

Future you and Mr. Hot Office, perhaps?

As daft as it sounds a little online sales training may be the key to increasing your self confidence. Successful sales men and women use NLP and transaction analysis to work out the best way of promoting their product. A really good ‘closer’ will know how to make someone believe that the product they have to sell is going to change their life,  even if they have absolutely no need for it. Picking up a few tips from the experts might help you sell yourself to your next employer, the bank manager, or that person who you are desperate to get to know.

If it is body confidence that you are lacking then why not jump in at the deep end and become a model at a life drawing class. We know, it sent shivers down our spine, too! But, if you go outside of your local area, then you remove the risk of discovering that Mr. Hot Office enjoys life drawing as a hobby. The body tells a story and you should be proud of yours. And if anyone understands that truth, it’s a room full of artists!

Go wild. Go Alternative. Go Confident!

Improve Your Chances Of Getting A Job

Improve Your Chances Of Getting A Job

So you are out of college and into the real world. Now the next step is to find a job. But in the current climate, it can be trickier than ever to secure one. There might be twenty of you all lined up for interviews, all with the same course behind you. In fact, many people are left down in the dumps when they haven’t received a job offer months after they finished college. When the competition is stiff, here is how you can improve your chances of getting a job:

Get Some Experience: One thing which can help you stand out from others is work experience. Of course, it can be hard to get experience when it means you have to work for free. Having bills to pay is no joke. But, if you can try to get a couple of weeks of work experience in a job, you will have some great new skills to talk about when you go for job interviews. And in some cases, work experience can actually lead to a full-time position if you impress your employer. Make sure you get some references from the employer and keep any work you do to put in your portfolio. It will help you infinitely when it comes to securing a new position.

Commit To A Follow Up Course: Despite the fact that you completed your course, it’s always good to consider doing a follow up course after you have finished. Doing a CE course can help you pick up extra skills that you need for the job. And, if a potential employer sees that you have had the training already, it could save them time and funds if they hire you. This might help put you a step ahead of others when going for an interview. Look into the additional courses that you could take (look online, too) to help you secure a job. Knowledge is power!

Mingle With People In The Industry: It’s also a good idea to get to know people in the industry if you are hoping to improve your chances of getting a job. Unfortunately, it’s often about who you know when landing a job. Impressing someone in the field could ensure that you are the first to know about upcoming positions. It’s time to get on platforms like LinkedIn and get to know people in the field. You can also join groups on the site and give your opinion on the latest goings in the industry. And as we said before, network in spaces where people in your industry are likely to schmooze. For example, you might want to attend trade shows and corporate events to meet people in your dream field. And name dropping people during your interview could give you a helping hand to a second interview or a full time position.

And remember to practice your interviewing skills so that you are well-rehearsed before attending the interview. Preparation is powerful in helping to shake away those pre-interview jitters!
