Hi there! I wanted to give everyone a little update on something health related so buckle in. I am HPV positive and for the past two years I have needed a biopsy of my cervix. A few weeks ago I had my second biopsy and it was unpleasant but doable. All that was left to do was wait for the results and I got them in last week. The results showed fragments that did not show up on my pap smear and I will need to repeat a biopsy and pap in a half a year. It might be HPV related and resolve itself or it could be pre-cancer/cancer cells that will require a surgery on my cervix to remove.
Although it was scary to hear, I consider this a best case scenario result. It could either be nothing or it could be something that has a surefire way of being treated. I think that’s very lucky and I am so thankful. This is not a post looking for sympathy, but a post to serve as a gentle reminder to take your health seriously. Do not ignore your gynecological care. Attend your appointments, commit to the doctor’s orders, and be proactive in asking questions and voicing concerns. Cervical cancer is, blessedly, treatable but it is up to you to get a head start. Regular appointments means finding problems early which will increase the success of the treatment even more.
I would be a liar if I said that the first few days after my doctor called me with the results weren’t difficult. They were and I felt really sad. However, I am feeling much better after having time to sit with these emotions. The most helpful thing for me has been repeating a mantra in my head and to Johnny too. It goes a little something like this: It’s either nothing or it will be treated. Those are the facts and focusing on them has kept my mind from wandering to worst case scenarios. It’s so easy for your brain to go haywire when you get not so great news and fact driven self talk restored my sanity. ❤
In conclusion, everything is A-okay. While lifewithlilred is full of fashion and fun, it’s about my life too and I just wanted all of my dear friends and readers to be updated. I love you all!
Do you have a mantra you repeat? How do you engage in positive self talk? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah
It is exciting when your freelance hustle blooms and feels like it will grow even more into a business. This is progress. And of course it is! But this is also the exact moment when money starts feeling weirdly harder to manage, not easier. Let’s explore why this is and how you can better manage the finances of your business:
Every Income Stream is Different:
Freelance income behaves one way, but online sales behave another, and rental income comes with its own rules, timelines, and costs. None of them plays nicely together. Basically, the money comes in differently, different amounts, different times, that’s the premise there. Just trying to treat all income the same usually causes confusion. One stream might look profitable until fees, refunds, or expenses get counted properly. Another might quietly be doing most of the heavy lifting without getting noticed. So, without separating things, it’s hard to see what’s actually pulling its weight and what’s just along for the ride.
Personal and Business Money Slowly Start Blending Together:
This part doesn’t happen overnight. It creeps in. Think of it like this: a client payment covers groceries, a business subscription comes out of a personal account, and maybe even some receipts get forgotten. It feels convenient in the moment but that convenience creates confusion later. The problem here is that profit gets fuzzy. Well, that and planning feels risky. Oh, and don’t you forget about tax season, which will turn into a stressful exercise in trying to remember what happened months ago.
What Worked Early On Eventually Stops Working:
Early systems usually rely on memory and good intentions but growth exposes cracks fast and there’s this constant low-level feeling that something’s being missed. You can’t have that, be it one business, one side hustle, well, anything that’s making you money. You need tools, like if you’re owning and renting property, even a bedroom in your house, then you need to explore accounting software rental property or other systems for whatever you’re earning money with, so the complexity can be taken away and you can get your finances in order nicely and evenly.
Decisions Start Feeling Heavy:
When numbers aren’t clear, decisions stop feeling logical and start feeling emotional. Like, every little decision needs to be calculated, but you’re so stressed, you’re scared, what’s going to happen? For example, hiring help feels risky. Even just investing in growth feels uncomfortable. This all leads to even the smallest of choices coming with hesitation. Instead of confidence, there’s second-guessing. Instead of planning ahead, there’s reacting to whatever comes next. And you better believe that wears people down. But most small business owners aren’t struggling because they’re bad at what they do. They’re struggling because the financial picture isn’t clear enough to support good decisions.
Having multiple income streams isn’t the problem. It’s actually a sign of adaptability and resilience. But the struggle comes from trying to manage them without the right structure. Clarity creates confidence. It makes planning feel possible instead of scary. And most importantly here, it turns growth into something intentional instead of reactive!
Howdy! My blogging bestie, Kate, is the Christmas Queen and I’m pretty sure she has been prepping for the holidays since the last holiday season lol. She has a deep love of Christmas movies and I love that for her because she watches enough for the both of us! I have a handful of holiday flicks that I enjoy but my favorite of all is a good seasonal slasher. I was SO excited to see Silent Night, Deadly Night in theaters and it did not disappoint. Before we begin our discussion in a spoiler free setting, as always, I’ll be placing a trigger warning for graphic violence and disturbing content. Now, let’s get to it:
^^^ I have no rights to this video!
Our main character, Billy, has lived a… colorful life. As a child, he witnessed the murder of his parents by a man named Charlie who was dressed as Santa. Since that fateful night, Santa Charlie has lived on in Billy’s head. With Billy’s eyes, Santa can see all and guides Billy to the people who have been naughty. Their punishment? Death. For every day of the Advent calendar, Billy must kill one person on the naughty list or someone innocent will take their place. After the seasonal murder spree, Santa and Billy can rest until next year’s holiday season.
Due to these unusual circumstances, Billy is a drifter and finds himself in the small town of Hackett to continue his holiday justice. He snags a gig at a local antique store and uses his job to scope out potential victims. And, oh yeah, scope out the gorgeous Pamela whose family owns the shop. Billy doesn’t want Pam to think of him as a bad person but he doesn’t want innocent blood to be shed, either. However, their two worlds are about to collide in a major way and they might be able to do some good after all. Will Billy have his happily ever after? Or will he drift through life alone with Santa Charlie forever? Watch Silent Night, Deadly Night to find out!
I have to admit, I have never seen the original Silent Night, Deadly Night *gasp*. I guess I am going to have to add it to my watch list because I absolutely loved this flick! This was a perfect slasher with a healthy mix of camp, comedy, and gruesome kills. It followed a classic slasher playbook to the T with a holiday twist and it was most definitely my kind of Christmas movie. It was a wacky story, yes, but it was also scary fun. 😀
The first fifteen minutes or so of Silent Night, Deadly Night had me feeling a bit ambivalent. Then, the pace picked up and it was nonstop thrills for the rest of the movie. There were great jump scares, a little romance, and two unlikely characters that you couldn’t help but want a happy ending for. This was a short and sweet flick at barely over an hour and a half and I wish it was longer. After the stage was set, I felt like I blinked and the movie was done. Once I was in, I was so in and I can’t wait to watch it again!
Overall, I am going to rate Silent Night, Deadly Night with an eight out of ten stars. If you love a seasonal slasher too, this is a must see!
What is your favorite Christmas movie? How about your favorite seasonal slasher? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah
Hello!! My wonderful hair stylist blessed me with a Christmas miracle by squeezing me in on her birthday for the appointment I had to miss when I had Covid. Honestly it was the best Christmas gift ever and I couldn’t be more thankful to her. Once I got home with my brand new do, I couldn’t wait to venture out into the snow to show it off in an OOTD shoot. It was icy cold but the fashion was oh so hot. These pics? Ehhh… Not so much lol check out the Blooper Reel from my Let It Snow OOTD:
Literally everyone in Ohio when it starts snowing… in the winter
Not sure what caught my attention but I had to put a pause on the pics to take a look see
I’M SEXY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Who’s ready for those classic throwing snow pics?
Good…
Better…
Best lololol
When it comes to gift giving occasions, I am extremely impatient and would prefer to give my giftees their prezzies as soon as they’re purchased. I absolutely love picking out the perfect gifts for everyone on my list and I just want them to have it ASAP. Unfortunately, the old “Can I give you your Christmas gifts now?” works on literally no one. Except for one person – my Johnny! ❤
Since we started dating, I truly can’t recall one Christmas, birthaversary, or Valentine’s Day where we gave each other our gifts the day of. It goes a little something like this: I am a chronically early gift shopper, I ask him regularly if I can give it to him, then he eventually caves. On Thanksgiving week, Johnny finally cracked and I was able to give him his Christmas prezzies – all of the Spinal Tap albums on vinyl. In my defense, however, Johnny technically gave me my gift earlier. All I wanted for Christmas was Little Nightmares III and he got it for me the day it came out in October. The Little Nightmares series is one of my all time favorite games and I simply couldn’t wait until December to receive the latest installment. It looks like Johnny beat me at my own game this year and I’ve never been more proud. 😀
No matter when, it’s always so fun to give and receive gifts… Preferably on the early side though!
Are you patient when it comes to presents? What is on your Christmas wish list? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah
Hi! I used to be a massive coffee drinker. However, I lost my taste for it after my last not so great job. What used to be a delightful drink to perk me up was filled with negative associations of pounding coffee back to back and consistently being on the verge of a mental breakdown. So, I just stopped drinking it all together and opted for a crispy AF McDonald’s Diet Coke to wake me up before work. Until recently! The past few weeks in Ohio have been freaking freezing and I just couldn’t bear to drink anything ice cold and I am SO back on my coffee kick. And you know what? It tastes great!
I would never call myself a coffee snob because coffee is just coffee to me. That’s not to say I don’t have my favorite coffee treats, though! Every year I look forward to when Starbucks brings back the Peppermint Mocha because that is my all time fave. I only allow myself one Venti Peppermint Mocha per year because they are so pricey but that one Peppermint Mocha awakened something within me and now I can’t get enough of that hot, caffeinated good stuff!
For the past year my Mondays have started with a Mickey D’s Diet Coke and that tune changed for the winter last Monday. It was eight degrees when I went to work and I needed warmth from the inside out. A hot Caramel Macchiato was the move and it was delicious. What made it even better was the silly Grinch cup that it came in! I loves me a seasonal cup and McDonald’s has definitely taken the cake this year. It was also impossible to feel Grinchy when I was de-thawing. 😀
As much as I love a cup of coffee from Starbucks or MacDo, the gas station is just fine for me too. My very first job was working as an actor at a haunted house. My shifts would end around two or three in the morning and every night before work I would go to the gas station for the biggest coffee they had. I would always mix the French Vanilla with the Caramel Macchiato and it was like heaven in a cup. Sixteen years later, for some reason, I had a hankering for this brew and went to the Circle K up the street so I could take a trip down memory lane. Amazingly, the taste of my classic coffee combo hasn’t changed in almost two decades and it was such a wave of caffeinated nostalgia. Like I said, coffee is coffee no matter where it’s from for me and I think my gas station coffee has been my favorite cold weather treat of all!
My deep dive back into the world of coffee has been excellent. It no longer has negative associations for me – it has simply been having a cup of cheer!
Where is your favorite place to get coffee? What do you usually order? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah
Howdy everyone and welcome to a brand new OOTD here on lifewithlilred! This past Saturday I enjoyed a wonderful pampering session at The Shear Shop and emerged with a beautiful new do in a peacock palette. Afterwards, I could not wait to take pictures to show off my new look – rain, shine, or snow! Once I returned home from the salon, Johnny and I ventured out into the cold for some OOTD magic in the freshly falling snow. I just love how these pictures turned out! Take a look:
I pondered what I wanted to wear for these pictures as I drove home from the salon and decided that I wanted to sport an All Black Everything motif. These pics were about the outfit, of course, but also to showcase the hair. I wanted the rockin peacock palette to be seen in all of its glory and that called for a neutral background to prevent color clutter. This may be a simple OOTD but between the unique details in the clothing and my new hair, it turned into a full fledged fashion statement.
For my jacket, I chose a stunning faux fur number by Me Jane. I am an avid fan of faux fur and this jacket is pure sophistication. I adore the visible diamond shaped stitches and the brooch style button. The shape is so classic and it is nice and warm for the wintertime. The timelessness of this jacket created such an interesting juxtaposition with the modern hair and I felt like an old fashioned movie star! As I was going with All Black Everything, I paired my jacket with some top or another underneath as I planned on wearing it buttoned and my coated skinnies by Seven Jeans. These pieces paired together formed a long and lean silhouette while also playing with texture from the shiny coating of the jeans and soft faux fur to make the eyes dance.
Next up was shoes and accessories. I went with my favorite pair of chunky heeled boots by Olivia Miller which added a shiny pop of bling from the chains. It also helped tie the look together from head to toe thanks to the blinged out brooch button on the jacket. As another additional sparkly surprise, I chose a pair of gloves by StilEstro in a gorgeous cream hue that featured a big flower brooch on one of the hands. Finally, I popped on a pair of dangly earrings with sizeable burnt amber gems hanging from them. These playful touches of shiny gems and silver looked so striking against my neutral palette and the white fluffy stuff falling from the sky!
With winter fashion this good, I say Let It Snow… In moderation, of course!
Have you had a snowy winter? What is your favorite wintertime activity? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah
Hello! This past week I took a trip to Spirit Christmas and had a complete blast. Spirit Christmas is basically Spirit Halloween… But Christmas lol and the setup is the same. As soon as you walk in, you are greeted by a walk through of motion activated decor and there is also an area filled to the brim with inflatable lawn decor. And, oh yeah, beaucoup holiday themed T-shirts, costumes, ugly sweaters, stockings, and ornaments. For my holiday OOTD, I had a vision of a Sabrina Carpenter inspired ensemble. The sweater vest below is for my “naughty” OOTD and the T-shirt is for the “nice” version! Check it out:
Prior to visiting Spirit Christmas I was browsing on a few online stores for a holiday OOTD. However, I didn’t make any purchases as I had never bought from them before and wasn’t sure of how the clothes would fit. The last thing I wanted to do was to make last minute returns and exchanges so I decided shopping in store was the best way to go. Although Spirit Christmas had a handful of pre-assembled costumes, they were a bit too basic for my liking. Luckily, they had stand alone options too so I pieced together my OOTD and I am loving it!
The first thing I clocked was the Christmas tree inspired mini skirt and I knew I could work with that. It is just so festive and FUN with that sparkling tinsel and disco ball style ornaments. I cannot wait to twirl and swirl in it and am happy to have it as I have literally no holiday season themed clothing. I think this skirt is the best place to start! The next order of business was finding a top to pair it with. I bypassed the ugly sweaters because they were upwards of seventy dollars and that was way too expensive to justify. That was no matter because who needs an ugly sweater when you have a Step Brothers T-shirt and sweater vest? 😀
In the T-shirt department, I snatched the Step Brothers T as soon as I saw it. It’s literally perfect lol. Step Brothers is one of my all time favorite movies and I all but have it memorized. Nothing says Season’s Greetings like Dale and Brennan sending their well wishes for an activity filled Christmas and it was just what I needed for my “nice” OOTD. For the “naughty” portion, I simply could not say no to the “Santa’s Favorite Ho” sweater vest because LOLOLOL. This little number is so sassy and downright hilarious and it’s going to look amazing with the mini skirt. It’s a Sabrina Carpenter style OOTD Lil Red’s way to the T and I couldn’t ask for anything more. ❤
I cannot wait to show off my naughty and nice OOTDs so stay tuned all holiday season long on lifewithlilred for more fashion fun!
Are you dressing up in a costume for the holidays? Did you get a new outfit to celebrate in? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah
You usually have two roads to travel down when you want to buy a car:
Buy it outright with your own money
Seek some sort of financing option
Most people can’t use 100% of their money to buy a car so they go down the financing route, though this also throws a fork in the road:
Buy your car using an auto loan
Buy your car with dealership financing
Both are very viable options, but which one is better from a personal finance standpoint? Let’s take a closer look at them and see how they compare:
Car Loans Explained:
A car loan is one of the most straightforward auto financing options available. You approach a lender, apply for a loan, and receive enough money to cover the full cost of your purchase. Deposits/down payments are required – and this is usually a secured loan, meaning the car itself is collateral. In essence, if you fail to repay the loan, the lender can repossess your vehicle.
A very simple idea that comes with some massive benefits:
You own 100% of the car straight away
Car loans tend to come with lower interest rates, making them less costly
You gain the flexibility to buy your car from any dealership or brand
There are only a couple of downsides to a car loan, particularly when compared with regular dealership financing. It normally requires more effort to find a suitable lender and apply for your loan – and lenders are strict when it comes to accepting applications. Still, if you’ve got a great credit history, then there’s no need to worry about approval.
Dealership Financing Explained:
With dealership financing, you normally approach a car dealer and buy a vehicle from them, using their financing product. You pay a deposit, and then the dealer charges monthly payments based on the vehicle’s value and how much you already paid. The interesting thing here is that you’re normally locked into a 1-4 year deal. When your term ends, you either pay a balloon payment to own the car or take out a new deal on a new vehicle.
Dealership financing is popular for a couple of key reasons:
It’s fast and easy to set up
You normally get better deals than buying a car outright with a loan
It’s easily accessible
You can cycle through brand-new cars every few years
However, the main downside is that you do not own your car. The dealer will retain a majority share of your vehicle unless you pay the balloon payment at the end. This means you lack any flexibility when it comes to modifying your vehicle – and you’re also often forced to go to specific garages for servicing.
Which Is The Better Option Financially?
Speaking from a strictly financial standpoint, car loans are the better choice. You have lower interest rates, gain ownership of the vehicle right away, and have a longer term to split your repayments, making them more manageable. Truthfully, dealership financing only makes sense if you like cars and want to buy a new one every few years.
If you’re on the market for a new car, explore your financial options carefully and don’t rush into a decision you’re not fully comfortable with!
Hello! Due to a stint with Covid, I had to cancel my hair appointment and was blessed by my stylist who squeezed me in this past Saturday. Anna opened up The Shear Shop just for me on her birthday, no less, and we had the best time spending the day together while she created hair magic. Whenever Anna does my hair, I always say that it’s the best style yet. However, I REALLY think we are onto something with this new do. We went dark for winter and I am in absolute love. Check it out:
Pulp Riot Colors Used:
Pyro mixed with Fireball
Absinthe
Nightfall
To begin creating this look, we bleached my hair for about twenty minutes and it did the trick perfectly. All of the old color was stripped from my hair and what remained was the lightest lemon hue and a bit of green around the ends. This was no matter, though, as our experiment into the world of green hair would take place on the bottom layer. Once my hair was washed and dried from the bleach was when the fun part starts – painting on the color! 😀
For my Pulp Riot palette, we went with Pyro mixed with Fireball at the roots, a layer of navy Nightfall, and a layer of deep emerald green Absinthe. Anna and I have tested many a color at my roots but we have never had better regrowth than with Pyro and Fireball, which masks the incoming natural brown hair like a charm. From the red would melt into rich and bold navy and emerald and we were chomping at the bit to see the end result. We just had a feeling it was going to be good and was it ever!
This color combo is everything and we were blown away by the dimension of the Pulp Riot dyes. We only used three colors but it sure doesn’t look that way. There is a kaleidoscope going on! The red and blue near the roots mixed into purple, there are swirling teals, aquatic blues, and jewel toned greens that created a full fledged peacock palette. My favorite animal! I could not wait to take pictures as soon as I got home and I loved seeing the falling snow against the gemstone magic that my genius stylist and I dreamed up. ❤
This is the darkest I have ever gone before for my hair and my only regret is not doing it sooner. I feel completely fabulous and, as always, Anna continues to showcase the true mastery of her craft. I am so beyond thankful for her! ❤
How often do you get your hair done? What brand of dye do you use? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah
