December 2018 Finishes

Hellooo everyone and welcome to lifewithlilred’s final beauty finishes post of 2018! Can you believe that tomorrow is Christmas and 2019 will be here in mere days?! What even. This past month didn’t bring me too many empties, as I have been too miserable to use a lot of my products thanks to my surgery. In fact, I just recently started doing my skin care routine again, which is so unlike me, but everything just hurt too badly. Luckily, these finishes were all used up prior to my time in Ouch Land and I enjoyed them both thoroughly. Take a look:

Would I Use Again?

  • The Body Shop Sun Ripened Raspberry body butter: YES
  • Bath & Body Works Happy Vibes shower gel: YES

Why/Why Not?

Body Butter: Aside from my favorite Cocoa and Peach body butter from The Body Shop, Sun Ripened Raspberry is one of my other number ones. This body butter smells like what I would imagine raspberry Lip Smackers would and it is absolutely to die for. Normally, I hate having the scent of lotion on me but, for once, I can’t get enough of this one! I got six full body uses out of one body butter tub.

Shower Gel: This travel sized shower gel in Happy Vibes was one of my many freebies from Bath & Body Works and I really liked it! Not only did it smell nice and vibrant, which was a great way to start my mornings, but I got over three weeks of use out of one tiny bottle. Talk about an amazing value for completely free!

Although December didn’t bring me lots of beauty empties, I still loved using up the products above – especially my body butter. And, I know that January will bring me tons of finishes considering I’m starting to feel well enough to actually participate in my beauty routine again. 🙂

What is your favorite scent from The Body Shop? How about from Bath & Body Works? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

I’m Back!

I’m Back!

Hello! After some grueling time away from my blog baby, Lil Red is officially back. Don’t get me wrong, I’m still in a buttload of pain but, it’s somewhat manageable now and I missed everyone too much to keep away. Long story short, after my wisdom teeth and gum transplant surgery, I had some pretty major complications. This included dehydration, exposed bone in the roof of my mouth, sockets that needed irrigated, and excruciating pain. It. Was. Awful.

But, I’m here now just in time for the holidays and I am so happy to be back in the blogging world with all of my beloved friends and readers. I would appreciate it if everyone would continue sending me the warm fuzzies though, because I’m still hurting pretty badly. And, I will see all of you tomorrow to chit chat about my December finishes! Much love. -Sarah

Stress, Coping Mechanisms, & You

Stress, Coping Mechanisms, & You

Stress has been described as one of the principal threats to human health in the 21st century – and it’s easy to see why. While stress is often described as a psychological issue, it can also cause a myriad of physical health problems, and can even be a significant risk factor for certain serious health conditions.

The reality of stress:

Realistically, the chances of anyone reading the above paragraph and being surprised to learn that stress is a health concern, are slim. Huge awareness campaigns have sought to outline the risks of stress to the general populace, but have had little effect. For most people, stress is something that they know they should avoid, but are mostly unable to actively solve – modern life is tough, and stress seems to a be a natural byproduct of this simple reality.

It would be silly for this post to continue along a vein of “you must fix your stress, it’s a serious problem”. It’s also somewhat unhelpful to suggest that stress can just be fixed as simply as flicking a switch; that a few self-care treats will be enough to overcome a serious, often systemic problem. Instead, we’re going to focus on another aspect of stress that tends to be overlooked: coping mechanisms.

What are coping mechanisms?

Coping mechanisms are behaviors, actions, and thoughts that people turn to when they experience stress. For the most part, these coping mechanisms are a good thing; we turn to them as they help us to feel a sense of release and go about our usual day.

However, not all coping mechanisms are equal – and some are downright dangerous. For example, some people smoke, drink, or burn the candle at both ends to relieve stress. While these behaviors may help to alleviate their anxiety, they have significant downsides that eventually results in a zero-sum game – or worse.

What constitutes a good stress coping mechanism?

Essentially, anything that helps to relieve the burden of stress without causing other lifestyle or health issues. So, you may find it beneficial to rant about the problems you’re experiencing, or you might find it more cathartic to cry on someone’s shoulder. Some people turn to exercise to help manage stress; others find a night in curled up on the sofa is more suitable. It depends on what you personally find beneficial; there’s no cure-all that fits everyone.

What if you only find “bad” coping mechanisms helpful for alleviating stress?

It would be wrong to suggest you should immediately desist, even from “bad” coping mechanisms – we all need ways to get through the day. However, you may want to consider substitutions. So if you tend to smoke when you’re stressed, you could switch to vaping, purchasing the best cheap premium e juice as a treat; if you tend to shop, then you could restrict yourself to low-cost, bargain stores; if you tend to opt for alcohol, then dilute the strength and try to stick within recommended limits. With a few tweaks, you should be able to achieve the same stress-reducing benefits, but without such a significant impact on your health as the truly bad options.

Final thoughts:

It’s important to note that if your issues with stress are chronic, and you are turning to any coping mechanisms – both good and bad – more often than not, it may well be worth discussing the issue with your doctor. Coping mechanisms are there to get you through particularly rough days, but any long-running stress issues can usually benefit from medical intervention.

Coping With The Stress Of An Unexpected Situation

Standard
Coping With The Stress Of An Unexpected Situation

Studies have shown that most of us feel stressed out at least some of the time in our typical day to day lives. We get stressed about work issues. We worry about our family and our relationships. We panic about financial problems. We’re stressed out by constantly being connected to social media and our emails. We worry that we’re eating too much or not enough of the right things. We know we should be exercising more, but we just can’t find the time. We work long, hard hours, we rarely give ourselves a break and when we do we use it to scroll through Instagram feeling envious of other people’s perfect lives.

That’s when things are going well. Our stress levels often reach their peak when something unexpected happens. Unfortunately, unexpected situations can’t always be avoided. Things break down and need repairing. People lose jobs or get sick. We find ourselves facing legal issues or problems with our children. You can’t prepare for them, but you can learn how to cope with the stress that they bring, allowing you to deal with them better.

Just breathe!

Research:

When something unexpected happens, it’s the unknown that causes us stress. Not knowing what’s going on, or why, or what will happen next causes undue concern, sleepless nights, and panic. Research your situation, employ the right people to help you, look for a lawyer and real time court reporters if you need to. Learn as much as you can, and don’t be afraid to ask for help understanding if you need it.

Speak to Someone:

You’ve probably heard the saying “a problem shared is a problem halved”. Well, it’s often true. We’re frightened and stressed out because of a lack of knowledge, but we almost talk ourselves into getting more stressed out if we deal with it in our own heads.

Speak to someone about your worries and concerns. This might be a professional that can offer you help or it could just be a close friend. Either one will give you a soundboard to get things off of your chest and offer you advice. Sometimes just vocalizing our problems makes them seem smaller.

Look At Your Options:

We often get stressed out because we feel trapped. Something unexpected happens, and we can’t see a way out. We panic, we focus on the negatives, and all we can see is the worst possible outcome. But, chances are, you have got options. Speaking to someone and learning more about your situation will help you to see them. Don’t be too proud to ask for help from the people that love you. They’ll need your help too one day, and you’d hate to think that they wouldn’t ask for it.

Concentrate On What You Can Change:

We can’t change everything. If something has happened, it’s happened. You can’t change it, and you can’t fix the past. So stop worrying about it. Focus your energies on the future, the things that you can change, and you’ll feel much better.

Honing & Perfecting Your Own Style

Honing & Perfecting Your Own Style

Everyone has their own style, but you could easily argue that not everyone is fully aware of their own style. That is a real shame, because it is important to be able to feel truly comfortable with yourself and in your own skin – and if you’re not, then you will probably find that life is considerably less enjoyable on the whole. If you are keen to try and discover what your own style is, then you might want to think about some of the following:

Trial & Error:

Probably the most important thing to bear in mind, is that it usually takes a lot of trial and error before you can come across your own style. What that essentially means, is that you need to be prepared to perhaps not look your best, or even look quite silly, before you can discover what you look really good in. This sense of using trial and error to determine your style is likely to take some time, but you will find that it is the most effective means of ensuring that you actually manage to find it at all.

To begin with, you need to try out a number of different clothes styles, and you need to do so in different settings, so that you can really get a feel for how you look in what kind of environment. That is something which you will need to try out a lot and, again, you will have to be prepared to maybe feel a little silly along the way. But, as long as you are happy to do that, you will soon find that you can get to grips with what kind of clothing style tends to suit you best. Of course, it’s not just about your clothes, either. You will also want to think about what kind of general attitude and approach feels natural to you, but that is more to do with simply being true to your actual way of being than anything else, and that is what we are going to look at next.

hone1

Cool sneaks are always a good look!

Be True To Yourself:

Along the way, it is important to make sure that you are being true to yourself, as hard as that can often be to do. In doing so, you should find that you can much more easily get to your own sense of style. The best way to do this is to make sure that you try not to pay too much attention to what other people think. That is much easier said than done, and most people will find that it takes a considerable amount of practice to get there, but as long as you are keen to do that you should find that you can eventually get to the point where you are being true to yourself, and not living for others.

Once you start along that path, you will gradually develop a groove, and you will find it easier to live your own way without worrying about others. The next natural step will be to have your own style. You will start to follow the path of least resistance, and you will be able to enjoy being you as truly as you like. Being true to yourself might sound like a cliche, but it’s the only way to really live your life.

hone2

So cool!

Have A Signature:

While trying to perfect your own style, developing a signature is important. This can be a stand-out thing which is quite obvious or, if you prefer, it can be more subtle and you can simply wait for people to notice this particular thing about you. If you want to try and do this, either way, you will want to make sure that this signature is something which is actually true to yourself, and not merely something that you are trying to show off with. This is not about impressing people, but about having some clear signature which you can point to and is indicative of your style in some way.

This is not to say that it needs to be absolutely original in order to be effective, either. It might just so happen that you are going to be able to have a signature which is fairly common, and yet is still true to you, and that is something which you should admit is going to be fairly likely. For instance, a lot of people have tattoos, and these generally constitute their signatures, and you might have your own eye on a particular tattoo which is going to do that for you, too. If so, you will want to make sure that you are truly happy with it, as the last thing you want is to regret a tattoo. Of course, you should bear in mind that it is always possible to use tattoo laser removal, so it is never the end of the world, anyways. But, regardless, it is best to really be happy with it before you get it!

Take Care Of Yourself:

If you are taking proper care of yourself, you will find it considerably easier to be able to be true to your own sense of style, and that will mean that you are much more likely to enjoy being you, in turn. Taking care of yourself means a lot of things and you should try to do as much of it as possible. Mostly, it is about ensuring that you are actually going to keep looking after your body through exercise and a proper diet, and that you are taking care of yourself psychologically, as well. As long as you are doing these things, you will find that it is easier to be true to yourself, and in turn to develop your style as you wish.

Giving Your Customers Faith In Your Online Business

Giving Your Customers Faith In Your Online Business

What’s a business worth if it’s not trusted by its customers? Nothing!

These days, online businesses are everywhere and you’ll find everything being sold. From crazy unique clothing pieces to hand-crafted wooden miniatures, you can purchase virtually anything from the internet and there are so many small businesses that you probably won’t be able to remember all of them. Because of this, it’s actually very difficult to build a brand that customers will come back to time and time again. This doesn’t mean it’s impossible though, through reading helpful resources online such as this article you’ll find that expertise in this sector can be quite instrumental in improving the perception of your business online. With an expert in business reputation on your side, there are a couple of solid strategies that can help you improve your reputation and build your customer’s faith in your business.

Make sure your website meets all the security regulations and standards:

Online security is a huge issue now, especially with hackers running rampant and leaking everything from credit card information to selling private celebrity photographs on the dark web. As a result, it’s vital that you get protection for your business from Jumio and other specialist firms that can help you design a safe and secured online website. In addition, you should always rely on eCommerce platforms with a good reputation so that if you ever come across a fraudulent transaction, you can deal with it immediately and effectively so that it doesn’t ruin your business or cause it to collapse.

As long as you follow all of the relevant regulations and standards, you’ll find that your customers will trust you more because you’ve gone the extra mile to ensure that they can feel safe when giving you their bank card information to make purchases.

Focus on offering good customer support to each and every customer without exception:

We’ve probably all experienced the “joys” of poor customer support. Whether it’s outsourced to another country or if we get put in touch with a clueless operative on the other end, it’s never a pleasant experience to be subjected to terrible customer support. Every business should focus on having a solid customer support structure so that they can better serve their customers. Make sure you have several points of contact such as social media handles, emails, and phone numbers, and make sure they’re manned so that if your customers do want to get in touch, they can. Services like Gong Competitors can also help if this is an area you struggle in with additional support like call recording and AI driven insights.

Great customer support can elevate your customer’s experience. It can create repeat customers and could also keep you from losing customers should they be unsatisfied with a product or service. Not to mention that they have the potential to give your business a shout out in reviews and recommend it to friends to highlight their positive interaction. Every customer should feel important and outsourced customer support might be the way to go for your business to achieve that. Negative reviews and experiences could lead to a business’s downfall so every call or interaction should be focused on resolving problems and customer satisfaction.

Be truthful about any errors or problems that you encounter:

Although your customers expect you to deliver their products and services on time, there’s undoubtedly going to be a couple of situations in which you can’t deliver on your promises. During situations like this, it’s vital that you speak to your customers and tell them the truth so that you don’t lie to them and create suspicion that you could be abusing their trust in you. If you have a customer who complains about damaged items in shipping for example, apologize and see what your business can do better. You might need more durable shipping gear – Packaging Chimp is a great resource to get your products from Point A to B safely.

Aim to deal with the situation as quickly as possible. It could be a late delivery because you forgot to post an item or it could be a problem caused by miscommunication by one of your sales representatives. Whatever the situation is, be truthful about it to the customer if they ask and do whatever you can to compensate them.

Running an online business requires the smarts and customer service skills, combine the two and your customers will always have faith in your enterprise.

What’s Stopping You From Living Healthily?

Standard
What’s Stopping You From Living Healthily?

The vast majority of people have health problems to some extent. It’s a part of life that we’ll become unwell and injure ourselves from time to time, but the real issues start when health issues become a big part of our daily lives. If you’ve been struggling with your physical and psychological well being for a long time, then it might be time to start making an improvement to your life. What’s stopping you from living healthily? That’s the question you need to answer. Let’s talk through some potential reasons as to why you’re struggling to live well:

A lack of physical activity:

Many people struggle to live healthily because they don’t move enough. You don’t have to become a fitness fanatic to stay physically healthy; you just need to find a way to work out your body today. Maybe you find it boring to run on a treadmill for 20 minutes. Why not run around your local park for 20 minutes, instead? That’d be a little more scenic. Or maybe you find jogging boring. Well, you could take up dance classes or join a sports club. There are so many ways to get your body moving. The important thing, is that you find something you enjoy. Find a form of cardiovascular activity and strength training that works in your daily routine.

Of course, you might be deterred from exercising because it’s been unenjoyable in the past. Maybe you’ve pushed yourself too hard at the gym and hurt yourself. An injury can definitely discourage somebody from wanting to exercise in the future. But it’s important to gradually move past that incident because injuries are most often caused by things outside of your control or a lack of experience. You might want to get help from personal injury attorneys if you’ve hurt yourself at home or the gym. Getting some closure on the incident might help you to ease back into regular physical activity.

Inconsistent eating habits:

This is something that stops many people from living healthily. Overeating is unhealthy, but fluctuating between an excessive and restrictive diet is even more damaging to your body and mind. Lots of people think that dieting is all about cutting back on food, but the goal is to cut back on unhealthy food. Otherwise, you’ll deny yourself the nutrition you need and end up craving the junk food you’re missing. You need to develop a consistent diet if you want to live healthily in the long-term, and the key to that is filling your meals with food that gives you the sustenance you need. In turn, you won’t crave the junk food you’ve cut out.

Sleep deprivation:

Sleep deprivation is something that stops many people from living healthily. You might be eating well and exercising regularly but failing to see the results you want because you’re not getting enough rest. Perhaps you think sleep deprivation only affects your energy levels and concentration, but it can also slow your metabolism and muscle repair. So, your waistline might suffer as a result. You need to improve your sleep routine if you want to improve your overall health. Make sure you get 8 hours of sleep every night. Go to bed earlier if you have to. Maybe you need to get up at 7am to get ready for work every day. If that’s the case then you shouldn’t be going to bed past midnight. Make your well being a priority.

Incorporating Reclaimed Wood Into Your Home

Incorporating Reclaimed Wood Into Your Home

Interior design trends tend to sweep the world by storm. But, many of us feel reluctant to engage with them in fear that they will soon fizzle out and we will be left with a property that ends up looking a little dated. However, there are certain trends that have longevity to them and are actually beneficial in regards to more than mere aesthetic value! Reclaimed wood is likely to be one of these. If you’ve spent a little time browsing Pinterest boards or glossy magazines for interior design inspiration lately, chances are that you’ve seen the words “reclaimed wood” thrown about a fair amount – so what actually is reclaimed wood and should it be something that you’re paying attention to? Read on to find out!

Why Reclaimed Wood?

Reclaimed wood is essentially reused or recycled wood. It is wood that has a past and has previously been used in some way or another. Generally speaking, reclaimed wood that is used in interior design has already existed in a home elsewhere and can generally date back as far as the eighteenth century. So why use this wood with history? Well, there are various benefits that come hand in hand with it. The first, is that it tends to have a rustic look and feel to it. This can make your home feel more vintage or have a unique aesthetic. It also has environmental benefits. New wood (which is often unsustainably sourced) tends to contribute towards deforestation and habitat destruction. Why engage with this when there’s already perfectly good wood out there? Be careful to not mix reclaimed wood up with salvaged wood – this is wood that has been cut and stored for several years, but that has simply not been used. It is the interior design equivalent of deadstock vintage clothing.

Sourcing Reclaimed Wood:

It can be relatively difficult to guarantee that any reclaimed wood that you purchase is genuinely reclaimed wood. Some people have noticed that they can sell reclaimed wood at a higher cost, so will simply attempt to make new wood look a little distressed and pass it off as the real deal. To ensure that the reclaimed wood you are using is genuine and of good quality, use reliable suppliers like Manomin Resawn Timbers. They will be able to provide you with everything that you need!

Incorporating Reclaimed Wood Into Your Home:

Now, there are various ways that you can incorporate reclaimed wood into your home effectively. Some inspirational options include:

Hopefully, the above information has helped you to see some of the benefits of reclaimed wood and may have given you some inspiration to start incorporating it into your home!

How To Cope With A Scary Medical Diagnosis

Standard
How To Cope With A Scary Medical Diagnosis

There’s nothing quite like being diagnosed with a serious illness or disease. It’s a situation nightmares are made of. Even if you suspected that something was wrong, this information completely knocks you for six, taking over your entire life in one terrifying and paralyzing moment. It may feel as though time has stopped, but you do need to find a way carry on. To help you cope with this scary news and bring balance back into your life, here are six things that you can do:

Allow Yourself To Feel:

Maintaining a positive attitude can help you to make better choices and improve your quality of life. However, if you’re not feeling particularly positive, you shouldn’t have to fake it. Many people diagnosed with serious illnesses choose to put on a brave face so as to not worry their loved ones. Unfortunately, this can be incredibly overwhelming. It’s much healthier to let yourself feel and not be ashamed of it.

Use The Web Wisely:

Certain conditions most of us already know quite a bit about, but, when you’re diagnosed with something you’ve never heard of, one of the first places you might turn is the internet. Just make sure you use it wisely. As useful of a tool as the web can be, it also contains some wildly inaccurate information. It’s much more sensible to talk to trusted health professionals, instead.

Avoid The What Ifs:

When we receive a serious diagnosis, our minds instantly jump to the worst case scenario. You should avoid doing the same. As beneficial as some services from hospices may be, you’re not at the point that you need them yet, and actually may never be. You might think that you’re preparing for the future, but all you’re really doing is causing yourself unnecessary stress.

Choose Whom To Tell:

The support of your family and friends is crucial in times like this, but that doesn’t necessarily mean that you should tell everyone you know right away. A loved one who is going to cry or offer unhelpful advice every time you see them is someone you may want to keep this information from, at least until you’ve wrapped your head around it. Only talk to those who will help you.

diagnosis2

Find Those Who Understand:

No one can ever truly understand what you’re going through, but there are plenty of people that can take a good guess. You’re not the only person in the world to be diagnosed with your illness, so, instead of battling it alone, you could consider talking to those who are going through the same thing or have in the past. You can often find these people through support groups and they are sure to offer great advice. For example, someone might have benefited from a medicare patient advocate that helped with billing assistance or another member of the group could have recommendations to soothe symptoms. You are all in it together and a sense of community can be uplifting.

Stick To Your Routine:

Certain illnesses will require treatments that take up large portions of your day. However, when possible, you should try to stick to your usual routine. Some days you will want to lay in bed and ignore the world, and that is okay, but you can’t let this be your life. If you do, your diagnosis will define you. You may choose to cut back on certain things, but many elements can stay the same.

Hearing a scary diagnosis will never be easy, but, hopefully, with these tips, you can cope better through the next few days and weeks.

Helping An Elderly Relative With Their Medical Needs

Standard
Helping An Elderly Relative With Their Medical Needs

Unfortunately, age comes for us all, and is coming for us right now. Some age like a fine wine in terms of health, while others struggle. Most have at least one issue they need to manage, and do so with care. However, as someone ages it can be harder to keep up this maintenance, as well as dealing with new issues that are sometimes natural, sometimes not depending on their circumstances. The best thing that you can do for your elderly relative is provide love and support in this time. Doing so requires more than words and smiles. Helping them manage conditions, even if you need to split the care giving throughout the responsible adults in your family can be a true blessing for them, and is always a beautiful thing to do for anyone, family or not.

Of course, it would be wrong to assume that you can help them with everything. In the following article, we hope to explore a range of systems or assistance you could give to help your elderly relative through this time. Consider:

Help With Medication:

Your presence or an extra helping hand from in home aged care services can sometimes be the most important thing depending on your family needs. This way you’re not forcing them to head to a retirement community, or bringing them to the doctor everyday. Simply having someone to quickly check in and help with their medication or wash themselves can be all the help in the world that they need, at least for the time being. Simply reminding them through texts or calls can be worthwhile. but it’s also likely that they’d appreciate some human contact, especially if they live alone.

Help With Living A Normal Life:

Living a normal life is completely subjective, but sometimes your elderly relative might not have the capacity to live how they might like due to a medical issue. Spending time with them, taking them out for the day, or baking with them might seem like a small act of kindness and joy to you, but it can make their entire week if you plan it right. The most precious resource anyone elderly has is time, especially if ill. This means giving them this is the most potent form of love you can gift them.

Another way that you can help your loved one is by seeking out activities, stores, libraries, and a doctors office nearby. Giving up independence can be a struggle for elderly people so things that they can get to on their own if they are able will give them a huge boost! Care professionals can also assist with adding normality back into your loved one’s life. There are resources like local aged care software that will help in-home carers update progress notes on your loved ones well-being, enhancing the overall quality of care they receive.

Finding The Right Family Medicine Practitioner:

Finding the right family medical professional might take a little time, but figuring out what you need can help. It might be you require the potential for urgent medical care, continual appointments, or someone who your relative trusts and enjoys being around. Search until you find this, and accept no compromises. This can truly help take the sting out of the care that is given and needed. A great family doctor can ease the burden so dramatically it can be hard to overstate.

With these tips, and the ability to never rule out medical community housing depending on your relative’s needs, you’ll be sure to find the best approach possible.
