Lil Red’s Book Club: Knock Knock By Anders Roslund Edition

Hello everyone and welcome to a brand new edition of Lil Red’s Book Club! In a spoiler free setting, as always, we are going to be discussing a Swedish mystery thriller called Knock Knock by Anders Roslund. Unbeknownst to me, this book is actually the newest edition of a series following a curmudgeon of a Detective Superintendent named Ewert Grens. Although a few nods to past books were scattered throughout Knock Knock, it didn’t alter the overall story line and was still a great read. In fact, I think I’ll go back and read the rest of the series! Before we begin, I will be placing a trigger warning on Knock Knock for graphic violence and highly disturbing content. Now, let’s get to it:

Ewert Grens has worked in the Homicide Unit for a long time and is getting close to his retirement. There is one case, however, that has still haunted him for close to two decades: An entire family murdered, minus one little girl safely hidden away. He rescued her from the crime scene three days later, took care of her, and was able to get her a new identity and placement with a new family. The case went cold quickly but he often wonders about that little girl. Where is she? How is she? What is she like now? Then, as if out of nowhere, her case resurfaces again. A break in occurs at the home where the crime took place and potential suspects from seventeen years prior end up murdered in the exact same fashion as the girl’s deceased family.

Piet Hoffmann, too, works with the police but in a completely different fashion. He isn’t a cop or a detective, he is an infiltrator specializing in organized crime. Piet has been an invaluable resource to the Swedish police and has ended countless smuggling rings of drugs, weapons, and people. Now, he has retired from his old life and is the definition of a family man to his wife and three small children. Sometimes, Piet muses about going back to his old life for a quick job or two but never acts on it. Until now.

On a lovely afternoon, Piet discovers that his young son is playing with a new toy that he found in the mailbox. It looked like a toy, played like a toy but was merely a hand grenade designed as one. In the package addressed for his sons, he finds a note with five damning typewritten words: “We know who you are.” Someone out there knows that code name Paula is Piet and plans on using that to their advantage. Through phone calls from an altered voice, Piet is given a new mission. Retrieve a cache of the most powerful machine guns known to man or your family dies.

Long ago, Detective Grens formed a fondness for Piet’s family and is one of the few men that Piet somewhat trusts. He knows he needs the resources of the police to turn the mission he has been given on its head. His family will survive, the guns will not fall in the wrong hands, and the organization will be taken down. As the former enemies (according to Knock Knock’s reference of past books) delve deeper into the cases, realization dawns that they are connected and time is running out. Will the old detective finally be able to resolve the case that evaded him all these years? Will Piet’s family make it out alive? Read Knock Knock to find out!

Outside of the very first chapter, Knock Knock started at an excruciatingly slow pace. It wasn’t that I was entering into a series that already had four previous books. There was just So. Much. Information. to set the scene and things didn’t really start picking up until around page one hundred fifty. I trudged through and am glad I did because when the book shifted, it turned into nonstop action, jaw dropping revelations, and twists and turns that continued until the very last page. Knock Knock was four hundred and forty pages long and once that turning point hit, I devoured the rest in two sittings.

Although I had just been newly introduced to Grens and Hoffmann, it felt like I had known them for forever. They were both so likeable in their own ways. Grens was cranky, set in his ways, and kept the soft spot he had for his dear ones well hidden. Hoffmann was like an action movie star – smooth, contained, and a master of every weapon imaginable while still maintaining his role as a father the best he could. It was the classic scenario of an old cop having a begrudging relationship with someone who can’t be told a damn thing and it worked so well.

It was so easy to grow fond for a majority of the characters in Knock Knock and it made for such a palpable sense of urgency as it twisted to the nitty gritty. Time was a major factor in this book and the countdown had me panicking. There was so much up in the air, so much room for error, and devastating consequences should the slightest thing go wrong. As I read, there were countless times when I found myself holding my breath and it was an absolutely gripping read once the pace picked up.

Overall, I am going to rate Knock Knock with a six and a half out of ten stars. Would I have liked it more had I read the other Ewert Grens novels? Who’s to say? I would have rated it higher had it not started out so freaking slow!

What are you currently reading? What should I read next? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

Fun In The Sun OOTD

Hello everyone and welcome to a brand new OOTD here on lifewithlilred! For the Fourth of July weekend, Johnny and I enjoyed a lovely little getaway to Geneva On The Lake. We stayed in a fantastic Airbnb with a few of our friends that was literally right on Lake Erie and it was like having our own private beach! On the Fourth, we posted up on our oasis on the water and had a blast soaking up the sun all afternoon. The sunburns that resulted in our lake day were anything but!! Take a look at what I wore before busting out an itty bitty bikini and my skin wasn’t fifty shades of Lil Red. It simply screams Fun In The Sun!

Kerchief Top: Altar’d State

Jean Shorts: American Eagle Outfitters

Platform Sandals: Sbicca, ModCloth

Sunglasses: Lucky Brand, TJMaxx

Dagger Earrings: These were bought on vacation in the Poconos!

When I was packing this outfit for our trip, I didn’t even put two and two together that it would be featuring a red, white, and blue motif on the Fourth. I was in no mood to celebrate America, lol, it just happened and that’s okay because I love this look and it is a super easy one to replicate. Normally when I am building an outfit, I start from the top down. This time, however, I started smack dab in the middle with the jean shorts from American Eagle Outfitters. I absolutely adore this high waisted, distressed pair and they are oh so sweet with any summer OOTD. They are such a classic summer staple with some extra flare, fit like a glove, and go with anything meaning you can’t go wrong with them!

Next on the agenda was visiting the top department and I knew exactly what I needed: My gingham kerchief top from Altar’d State. This was my first kerchief top I ever purchased and it certainly started an obsession because I can’t get enough of them. They are sassy but not overly sexy and such a unique take on summer clothing. You can only have so many tanks and spaghetti strap tops! This little number paired beautifully with the high waisted shorts and just as I love the Gingham line from Bath & Body Works, I loves me a gingham pattern too. This top gave a somewhat retro pattern a modern update and will always be one of my favorite summer tops.

Finally, it was onto shoes and accessories. For shoes, I opted for a delightful pair of platform sandals by Sbicca. Yes, they were a pain in the butt to walk on the sand in but beauty is pain and I couldn’t imagine a different pair with this look. The straps are an almost perfect match to the blue in the top and they both feature a flower motif. It was like they were made to be worn together! Since I was going to wade in the water as I refuse to get my hair wet, I kept jewelry at a minimum with a pair of cream colored dagger earrings. Sunglasses were a must, of course, and I wore my beloved pair by Lucky. And, no, I didn’t lose them this time! 😀

This fit was Fun In The Sun, fashion fun, and vacation vibes to the T and I felt like the star of our private beach in it!

Are you going on any getaways this summer? What was the best vacation you have been on? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

Bath & Body Works Freebie Haul

Bath & Body Works Freebie Haul

Hello! On Tuesdays, I have an hour and a half or so break until my last shift of the day. During that time, I will work, read, run errands, have coffee with a friend, or an impromptu shopping date. It’s such a nice little hiatus and I always look forward to it. This past Tuesday, I had a few errands to run before posting up at Starbucks with my Passion Fruit Tea and a good book. I needed bunny supplies and a trip to Bath & Body Works to cash in on all of the freebies. I had a free travel size coupon as well as two free full sized products from their rewards program. It truly couldn’t have come at a better time because they just launched their Halloween line!! Thanks to a helpful employee, I found my new favorite thing and I seriously can’t wait to use it! Check it out:

^^^ You can peep my review for Gingham All-American here!

When it comes to B&BW freebies, I have a system. I always alternate between a shower gel and a lotion so that my stockpile is relatively even Stevens. I had every intention of doing the same with my freebies and that got turned on its head! As soon as I walked in the store, I couldn’t help but share my excitement for the Halloween line with the first employee who talked to me. She asked if I wanted to see her favorite new product and I said ABSOLUTELY. I have been missing the Halloween collection since it left the shelves last year and wanted to see everything B&BW had to offer!

The employee returned with a Shimmer Fizz Body Lotion in my absolute favorite scent of Vampire Blood. When she put some on for me to sample, my mind was blown. This lotion looks like shaving cream when you use it and quite literally fizzes on your skin. It felt like little bubbles dancing and it was the most delightful sensation. Not to mention it was insanely light and hydrating to boot. The piece de resistance, however, was the shimmer. The lotion left behind a sparkly trail of glitter and I was totally and completely sold. So much so that I just had to get another bottle in their newest scent, I Scream Float.

You can check out my Vampire Blood review here, but let’s discuss the brand new addition to the Halloween collection:

I Scream Float: Thanks to Facebook ads, I knew that I Scream Float was going to be hitting the stores and I was SO excited to take a whiff lol. The fragrance notes offered are “fizzing cola, frightful vanilla float, and spooky sugars” and I couldn’t agree more. I Scream Float really does smell like a Coca Cola float with a heaping scoop of vanilla ice cream and sugar crystals on the rim. It is absolutely delicious and speaks to my Diet Coke addicted heart. I never thought I wanted to smell like my favorite bevvie but here we are now and I can’t get enough. And, yes, I feel that way about I Scream Float and my beloved Diet Coke!

The Shimmer Fizz Body Lotion from Bath & Body Works is going to be oh so sweet for summer concerts and complimenting Halloween costumes. I can’t wait to use it with my summer OOTDs! My freebie haul totaled out to forty-seven bucks in product and I am beyond happy with it. So much so, that I actually might pay full price for more Shimmer Fizz. RUN don’t walk to get a bottle for yourself!

What is your favorite holiday collection from B&BW? Have you scored any good freebies recently? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

Groovy Movies: Jurassic World Rebirth Edition

Hello everyone and welcome to a brand new edition of Groovy Movies! In a spoiler free setting, as always, we are going to be discussing the newest edition to the Jurassic Park franchise: Jurassic World Rebirth. Since this flick has come out, I have heard nothing but lackluster reviews and I’m honestly not sure why. I thought it was a perfect summer popcorn movie! It was fun, fast paced, action packed, and exciting. If a movie entertains me, it has done its job and I really enjoyed it. Let’s get to it:

^^^ As always, I have no rights to this video!!

In a world where people are caring less and less about dinosaurs, a Martin Krebs cares about them deeply. Or, rather, cares deeply about the almighty dollar. His pharmaceutical company thinks that they can provide a life saving cure for coronary disease. All they need is a DNA sample from three of the biggest dinosaurs of land, air, and sea as they have the biggest hearts and lifespan. With the promise of saving lives and a massive payday, he enlists the help of special operative Zora Bennett and her crew as well as the paleontologist, Dr. Henry Loomis. With the team assembled, they travel to the only place where dinosaurs still roam: Isle Saint-Hubert – a small island close to the equator that offers a habitat where these magnificent creatures can continue to thrive.

As the crew begins their journey, we cut to a family enjoying a day at sea. Reuben and his two daughters Isabella and Teresa and Teresa’s boyfriend Xavier. They are in the middle of a lovely vacation when all of a sudden, something big hits their boat. It’s not an ordinary something but a Mosasaurus, the biggest dinosaur at sea. The family’s tiny boat is no match for the mighty creature and they will be lost at sea if they don’t get help quickly. A life saving radio call alerts Team Dinosaur to their rescue and they will track down a village located on the island they are traveling to so they can return home.

The ride to Isle Saint-Hubert is not smooth sailing in the slightest and they are being foiled by dinosaurs at every turn. The boat is being destroyed, people are falling overboard or being eaten, and by the time they get to the island the family is separated from the crew and the boat can no longer function. On the bright side, they did manage to get a sample from the Mosasaurus. As the family attempts to make their way to the village, Team Dinosaur begins hunting down the remaining two samples they need – Titanosaurus of the land and Quetzalcoatlus of the air.

The mission for the DNA is essentially timed as the crew must obtain them and reach a helicopter port in the village. The helicopter will circle for two minutes and leave for their own safety, with or without any passengers. As the family works together to get themselves to the village, tensions rise in Team Dinosaur. Krebs is risking the safety of his crew left and right and leaves Zora and Loomis questioning their mission. Is all of the money in the world worth a cure that is not obtainable to anyone but the super wealthy? There in lies the rub should all of the samples be obtained. Will the crew and family too leave Isle Saint-Hubert in one piece with an accomplished mission? Watch Jurassic World Rebirth to find out!

From start to finish, this movie was just pure fun. The cast was rocking, the scenery was stunning, and the dinos were out of this world. The plot was incredibly straight forward and simple but obviously the location added such a sense of urgency that it kept this almost two and a half hour long flick moving at a rapid pace. It felt so much shorter than that because I was so invested! Minus the token villains on Team Dinosaur, everyone in the cast was so darn likeable that it made it feel like you were right there with them every time they got into trouble. It certainly made for a thrilling ride!

Jurassic World Rebirth tipped its cap to so many Jurassic Park classic moments: Tumbling falls, close calls, don’t wake the sleeping dinosaur, and yes – a trapped under a car scene too. This movie was a celebration of a beloved franchise and the bad reviews shocked me after all was said and done. Jurassic World Rebirth asks nothing but to join in on the adventure and it is up to the viewer to immerse themselves in it or not. If you do, you are going to be in for a treat and will leave the theater wanting to see it again. I definitely did. 🙂

Overall, I am going to rate Jurassic World Rebirth with a seven out of ten stars. This is a must see summer feature and I highly recommend it!

Have you seen Jurassic World Rebirth yet? What did you think of it? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

Geneva On The Lake Getaway

Geneva On The Lake Getaway

Hello!! A few weeks ago Johnny got an invite from one of his coworkers for us to join him and his partner for a Fourth of July weekend getaway at Geneva On The Lake. They rented an Airbnb right on the water, had a spare room, and said the more the merrier. We happily accepted the opportunity for some fun in the sun and had the absolute best time! The last and only time Johnny and I had been to GOTL was for a work event for my dumb old boss and it was the freaking worst. To go back there in good company and actually enjoy the sights was a gift because I didn’t realize how awesome it was when I was punching the clock in misery lol. 😀

^^^ Hell yeah!!!

Johnny and I headed to our getaway as soon as I got home from work on Thursday and arrived at Geneva On The Lake in about an hour and a half. The travel traffic for the holiday weekend was blessedly nonexistent and that was great because we couldn’t wait to start our mini vacation. The Airbnb that our friends rented was seriously perfect. It was cozy, quaint, and was like having our own private beach. After getting settled and having a quick tour, we decided to hit the boardwalk for drinks, dinner, and visiting an awesome arcade bar.

The boardwalk at GOTL is the cutest and I would love to go back and explore it more. It was old timey, bursting with color, and bustling with activity between the shops, restaurants, and snack booths. It felt like going back in time and enhanced the vacation vibes even more. No stuffy offices, no chain stores or eateries, just quirky local establishments. It’s exactly what Johnny and I like! After stopping at a bar for a bevvie, we decided we were famished and went to a lovely beach side restaurant. They had the best Peach Sangria I have had in a long time and their pierogie platter was to die for! Once we finished our meal, we headed straight to an arcade bar for more drinks (Hey, it was a vacation!) and ALL of the skee ball before calling it a night. And, as per ushe, Johnny and I totally crushed at skee ball which is our all time favorite. I wish we had one in our house!

The following day was Fourth of July and our plan was to hit the beach for the day, head to the boardwalk, and watch the fireworks over the water. We made our way to the actual beach area of Geneva On The Lake and there were no parking spots in sight. Rather than make endless loops trying to find a place to park, we just headed back to the Airbnb and made use of our own slice of paradise instead. We brought chairs, coolers, and beaucoup sunscreen and spent all afternoon on the water. There wasn’t another person in sight and it was absolutely wonderful! It sure beat being in an endless sea of people and I didn’t want to leave! However, there came a point when all of our sunburns got too bad to ignore so we packed up and went inside. (As a side note, my sunburns were BRUTAL so I’ll be in my closet for the rest of the summer!)

We hung out at the Airbnb for a bit and freshened up, then we made our way back to the boardwalk for the rest of the evening. We, once again, had an incredibly difficult time finding parking which ate up a ton of time and ended up finding the last spot in an entire lot. It was a miracle! After playing some more games at the arcade, it was about time for fireworks to start and we just stayed where we were for a while to watch. It was spectacular and the most amazing way to commemorate our mini vacation!

Geneva On The Lake might have only been an hour and a half away but we felt like we were on another planet entirely. It was just the getaway Johnny and I needed and I would love to plan a long weekend trip for us this summer. I’m thinking Hocking Hills for sure!

How did you spend your holiday weekend? Where is your favorite weekend getaway spot? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

Brunch Babe OOTD Bloopers

Hello everyone and welcome to the Blooper Reel from my Brunch Babe OOTD! There is nothing better than wearing new clothes and I was so excited to bust out my new top featured in this look by Caroline Constas. It was the ultimate Brunch Babe, farmers market fierce little number I needed for a late morning trip to First Watch! Before I could ever so carefully dig into brunch to avoid a spill on my new duds, pictures were in order. Take a peek at these yikes pics and let’s discuss an instance that simply delighted me this past week:

When I was little, I prided myself on being the best “finder” lol. Someone in my family was always losing something and I was excellent at finding where the misplaced item was. In my old age, however, I fear I may be losing my touch. My eldest niece decided to put together a scavenger hunt with Bluey toys for her little sister at chez grandparents. Lil sis ended up finding almost all of them, but big sis forgot where she put two of the toys (lol) and my parents asked if I would look for them. I searched high and low for the members of the Bluey gang for what felt like forever and, sadly, had no luck. Luckily, I manifested finding something else instead…

For Christmas, I got my mom a gift card to Elysian Nails. Fast forward a few months later when she was ready to cash in her manicure and we couldn’t find the gift card anywhere. Like the Bluey toys, I looked everywhere and ended up convinced it might have been thrown out on accident. When I was on my own scavenger hunt for Bluey’s friends, I thought about how awesome it would be to find the gift card too. A minute or two later, I took off the lid of a decorative pot in the kitchen and gasped at its contents. The Elysian Nails gift card was sitting three feet from my usual spot at the kitchen table this entire time! It was a Christmas in July miracle but I am not hanging up my detective’s cap yet. I will not rest until the remainder of the Bluey toys are returned back to my nieces!

It took seven months to find the missing gift card so maybe in seven months the Bluey toys turn up? Either way, I am on the case!

Have you found anything that has been missing for a while? Where was it? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

Brunch Babe OOTD

Brunch Babe OOTD

Hello everyone and welcome to a brand new OOTD here on lifewithlilred! I had a highly successful shopping trip at TJMaxx this past month with my mom and have been so excited to break out all of my new clothes! I had just the occasion to do so this past weekend because Johnny and I enjoyed a lovely birthaversary celebration brunch with my aunt and uncle. We went to First Watch and ate like kings and I did so VERY carefully to avoid a spill on this fabulous, flowery, flowy number. Check it out:

Embroidered Top: Caroline Constas, TJMaxx

Bubble Skirt: A New Day, Target

Kitten Heels: A New Day, Target

Skull Earrings: Sirius Woods, these were a birthday gift from my BFF!

The piece de resistance of my TJs haul was truly the flower embroidered top by Caroline Constas. I literally clutched my pearls when I saw it and knew in an instant that it was coming home with me. I had been dying to wear it and thought it was just perfect for the weekend brunch we had planned. It’s bright, quirky, and fun and it sounds weird but it just felt like the top to wear to sip mimosas in a trendy restaurant. This top offers so much delightful movement with the huge bell sleeves and I knew I needed a skirt to match that energy. Luckily, I had exactly what I needed compliments of my Valentine’s Day date with Johnny!

In the skirt department, I chose my beloved bubble skirt from Target. I have wanted one for forever and was so happy to have finally found one! This skirt provided the volume and movement that I required to form a cohesive silhouette with the top. I wanted a bold shape and I got it in spades! The high waist meshed well with the fairly close fit of the top’s bodice and then both pieces branched out into flouncy fabulousness. It was so hard not to twirl my way through the streets with this combination!

Last but not least, was shoes and accessories. I went for a darling pair of kitten heels that were also a part of my V-Day ensemble and feature an adorable heart on the toe. These were ideal for the outfit as the slingback strap gave an unbroken leg line. This helped add length to the look by accentuating my legs as the base was quite fabric heavy. I didn’t want to go overboard with jewelry because the shapes of the clothing were eye catching enough. To keep things simple, I chose the gorgeous pair of dangly pearl skull earrings from my bestie and was ready to get my brunch on!

I absolutely love my Brunch Babe OOTD and wearing my Caroline Constas top for the first time was everything I wanted it to be and SO much more! ❤

What is your favorite brunch spot? Who is your go to brunch date? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

New Plum & Lavender Glitter Nails

New Plum & Lavender Glitter Nails

Hello! This past Tuesday was a doozy of a day but my nails were looking fierce all the while thanks to my monthly break time fill. It was so nice to have some calm before the storm before running here, there, and everywhere! I was also most excited about this fill because at my last one, I learned that there were brand new colors to choose from but I bypassed it at the time as I already loved what I picked out. This time around, I went straight to the new color book instead of the intimidating nail polish wall and decided on a pretty in purple motif. Check it out:

Normally, I have no problem picking out my new nail polish colors with each fill. My job was much harder at this one because ALL of the new colors were just so fun. There were plenty of sparkly glitter options, punchy and bright summer colors, and the promise of a combination that I’ve never used before. It was intoxicating! Despite all of the poppy summer hues, my eyes were immediately drawn to a rich plum shade. Purple is my niece’s favorite color (Or as she would call it when she was teeny tiny “purdle”) and I knew that she would be obsessed when she saw it! To compliment the plum, I chose a lavender glitter polish that literally shines bright like a diamond (Love you, Rihanna!). With that, I was ready for the pampering to begin!

When I am getting my nails done, there typically comes a point when I just like to sit back and enjoy. However, my tech and I had SO much to catch up on because she wasn’t available to do my fill at my last appointment. I honestly wasn’t even paying attention to my nails because it was a full on gab sesh! When I thought to look down, I was always shocked by the progress made: A repair for a broken nail, the sharpening, and shaping were done as quickly as our conversation was moving. Before I knew it, it was time for polish and it was truly before I knew it because my tech set a new record for herself! It was the absolute best time and I wish I could have stayed at the salon all day. ❤

My work day post fill was crazy but my nails were looking crazy good and it definitely provided the pep in my step I needed to make it through!

What color of nail polish are you rocking? What should I get done next? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

Feeling Ducky

Feeling Ducky

Hello!! In good ol’ Akron, Ohio we have a minor league baseball team called the Rubberducks. They play at Canal Park which is a mere ten minutes from my apartment, but I have never been to a game! That changed in April because Johnny’s work generously gives free tickets to the Rubberducks games all season long. Johnny snagged us some tickets and we went to a game with our best friend, Cliff, and my big brother, Andrew, and had the absolute best time. It was freaking freezing during the game, but we enjoyed every minute of the ridiculousness that is minor league baseball: The spectacle, the mascots, the contests, and the cheering at anything and everything like crazy!

This past weekend, my crew and I ended up at another Rubberducks game with a twist. They were no longer the Rubberducks but the Galley Boys. What is a Galley Boy, you might ask? If you’re not from Northeast Ohio, you’re not going to know lol but it is a hamburger from a local staple called Swenson’s. Everyone in my neck of the woods has been to Swenson’s and the Ducks rebrand their name with the drive-in’s signature meal once a year. As my husband is most fond of a Galley Boy, he had to get tickets to the Galley Boys versus the Senators and we all couldn’t wait to go to Canal Park for some fun.

Just like the last game we attended, it was a total blast but this time was even better because we weren’t freezing our nads off lol. To be back at the ball park with my boys was such a treat and we picked up right where we left off the last time: Noshing on stadium food, sipping on sodas, and being super fans. We were hooting and hollering, stomping and clapping, and cheered our Galley Boys on to a victory. The park was packed and to be in the mix of all of the excitement was intoxicating.

If there is a minor league baseball team in your general vicinity, I truly can’t recommend going to a game this summer enough. Even if you don’t like baseball, there is literally no way that you aren’t going to have a good time. If your team is anything like ours, you are in for hilarious sponsorships, mascots that don’t make a lot of sense, crowd pleasing entertainment, and the joy of being out on a summer evening. Johnny, Andrew, Cliff, and I are going to try to go to as many Rubberducks games as our schedules will allow and I am already on pins and needles for the next game we attend. 😀

Our Rubberducks have dominated in both games we have been to and I am keeping my fingers and toes crossed for a threepeat the next time. My crew’s official slogan is DUCK THEM UP and the Ducks haven’t disappointed us yet. Let’s go!!!

Do you have a minor league baseball team near you? What are they all about? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

Feeling Lucky

Feeling Lucky

Hello! At the beginning of April, I was in need of some new sunglasses and bought two new pairs at TJMaxx. I was especially partial to the pair by Lucky Brand because it is one of my favorite brands and the sunglasses fit me to the T. In fact, I loved them so much that I almost considered buying two pairs of them. I wore those babies everywhere and I just felt so cool in them! Because I wore them everywhere, it’s no surprise that they accompanied me to the Bob Dylan and Willie Nelson concert. It was one of the craziest nights of my life and I ended up losing my beloved pair of Lucky Brand sunnies in the mix. I was absolutely devastated. I went from wearing them every day to not having them at all and I was kicking myself in the butt for not buying that back up pair.

I was feeling fairly confident that if I went to TJMaxx, they would not have another pair of my beloved Luckies. It had been well over two months since the initial purchase so why would they? However, I just had to see for myself so I made a pit stop to the happiest place on Earth. Rather than browse through the store, I made a beeline to the sunglasses department and began scouring the shelves. I started at the left hand side, looked through the rows from top to bottom, and was seeing nothing. I continued the hunt to be one thousand percent sure and, as luck would have it, one pair of Lucky frames remained at the very end of the display. I couldn’t believe my good fortune and snatched them up!

Had there been more pairs of these sunglasses, I would have bought the lot of them. Sunglasses can get broken or lost so easily and I have experienced both firsthand. So the moral of the story is: There is no shame in buying back ups of anything you really love. It could be a great pair of ballet flats, your favorite T-shirt in different colors, and yes – sunglasses too. I learned my lesson when my favorite pair of sunglasses I have ever owned almost got away from me and I am not making that same mistake twice!

The fashion gods were truly smiling upon me when they returned my Lucky frames to their rightful owner. I was feeling so lucky I should have played the lottery! 😀

Do you buy back ups of anything in your wardrobe? Have you ever lost a favorite fashion item? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah
