Know Someone Who Is Retiring? These Gifts Are The Perfect Send Off

Retirement is something that many of us look forward to as we get older. The chance to throw in the towel when it comes to getting up early every day, doing the long commute, or simply just not doing a job that you weren’t passionate about. For others, retirement is a new chapter in their lives. But, sometimes, it can be a difficult change to go through. Leaving a workplace, especially if you have been there for a long time, can be quite a hard phase of your life to experience. So, if you find yourself saying goodbye to a work colleague of yours due to retirement, you and your coworkers might be considering a gift. To get you started during your brainstorming session, here are some ideas that could be the perfect way to say good bye:

A “This Was Your Working Life” style scrapbook:

If you are quite the crafty sort, then something like scrapbook could be right up your alley. You and the retiree’s colleagues could each take a page to share your thoughts and well wishes for the next chapter in their lives. You could also include mementos like business cards, letter headed paper, logos, and even pictures from over the years of working there. The beauty of this sort of gift is that it is very personal and sentimental, and will be lovely for your coworker to look back on in the years to come.

Something personalized and fun:

Maybe the person retiring had a great sense of humor or loved novelty style gifts. This is when you can get to researching online to find more unique gifts like retirement koozies or personalized pint pots or glasses. A personalized gift shows great thought and consideration to the person and will be the perfect keepsake.

The classic flowers or a bottle of something they love:

Sometimes sticking with the classic gifts will suit your work colleague better, which is why the big bunch of flowers and/or a bottle of their favorite drink could be the best sort of gift to buy them. Accompany this gift with a card that all of you have taken the time to write in. The understated gifts can often times work the best.

Make up a retirement survival kit:

Whether you want to create something yourself or seek out a company that will provide it for you, a retirement survival kit can be quite a funny as well as a thoughtful gift for your colleague. Things included can be a balloon so that you start off retirement with a bang, a toothpick to pick out the very best of their day, and money towards the retirement fund. The options are endless, and websites like Pinterest are full of anecdotes that you can include.

A “Happy Retirement” Plaque:

Being appreciated is one of the best feelings in the world, so why not give your recently retired colleague a retirement award? You and their other coworkers can order a fancy-looking plaque and have it customized with well-wishes from everyone. The present is bound to get a laugh from your coworker. You never know; they may even display it on their living room shelf.

A digital gift or a framed photograph:

Finally, you could make up a video send off where everyone records a message or have a picture printed and framed for your coworker. Digital gifts are great because they are always just a click away on the computer, and the time taken to get the picture or create the video won’t go unnoticed.

Although it will be sad to have a favorite coworker retiring, it is certainly something to be celebrated. Make happy memories to send him or her off with and use the ideas above to create the perfect gift!

Happy Three Year Blogiversary, lifewithlilred!

Hi everyone and TGIF! Today is a very exciting day because it’s lifewithlilred’s three year Blogiversary! Three years ago to the day (Or yesterday, actually, lol – you can never be sure!), my blog baby was conceived. And now, three years later, lifewithlilred continues to go strong with readers in over one hundred and seventy different countries. Wow!

Lifewithlilred came into being when I made the decision to go to college. I needed a change from feeling like I was going nowhere, thanks to spending four years working retail in the mall (Not that there’s anything wrong with that, but it was my time to go.). During my time selling clothing, I began growing what is now the black abyss that is my wardrobe and my peers and strangers, alike, agreed that I was fashionable and somewhat funny. At least once per week, I was told that if I began a blog, that I would have a reader in the person making the suggestion.

After enough positive prodding from the general public, I rolled my eyes and said, “fine”. I was making big and exciting changes in my life, so I figured “what’s one more?”. Thus, lifewithlilred was born. My blog name sprouted from the nickname, “Lil Red”, that was lovingly given to me by one of my favorite coworkers. And, Lil Red, obviously sprouted from my trademark red hair and red lipstick. Lifewithlilred just rolled off the tongue, so it stuck.

In my three years on the blogosphere, I have made so many amazing friends and wrote for companies that I admired from afar, like Adore Me and Warby Parker. My writing skills have improved a thousand fold, thanks to trying to post daily, and my confidence has skyrocketed from putting myself out there in the public eye. Lifewithlilred gives me a place where I feel like I am being heard, which is something that I used to want so desperately when I was feeling at my lowest. My blog truly feels like my little slice of internet paradise, and I am so proud of building that for myself and my readers.

Speaking of my readers! Here’s to all of you. Although I would love lifewithlilred even if I was the only person reading it, it would be a pretty lonely place without all of my friends and fans tuning in. To those of you who have been on my page since the beginning, thank you for your endless support. And to those of you who just discovered lifewithlilred, welcome aboard and I so hope that you will stick with me as my page continues to grow.

Thank you to everyone reading this. Thank you to anyone who has so graciously given my page a like, follow, comment, and the time of day. Lifewithlilred would be nothing without all of you!

Happy Three Year Blogiversary, lifewithlilred!!! ❤

What inspired you to start blogging? How long have you been on the blogosphere for? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

Faux Fur Fabulous

Faux Fur Fabulous

Hello everyone and happy Thursday! Once upon a time, I bought a faux fur vest from TJMaxx three years ago. I actually think that it was right before I started college in 2014. It was deep purple, black, and freaking amazing…And I returned it. I had high hopes of strutting around campus with my new statement making vest, but I didn’t have the confidence to pull it off. I was too nervous in my decision to begin school and leave a world of working retail behind, and didn’t want to stand out more than I already thought I did in my head.

Bad. Decision. Horrible decision. See, this is why I don’t return anything anymore, lol. I still think about that vest, the outfits that could have been, and the confidence that I have now to be able to wear it and feel fierce in it. SMH. Ever since remembering my fallen faux fur vest, I have been on the hunt to find a replacement for a wardrobe staple that my clothing collection lacks.

Unfortunately, I have never been able to find a worthy replica to replace my grave mistake of a returned vest. The midnight sky colored fabulousness has never been seen of again and, of course, it’s difficult to find faux fur vests in any other time but the fall. During a recent trip to TJMaxx, I found a gorgeous, unique blue ombre vest that I really like. BUT, rest assured, that it will never come close to my “one that got away”. Take a look:

thread

This Thread & Supply brand vest was the only one of its kind that I saw at TJMaxx and, lucky for me, it was in my size (Obviously!)! Blue is a color that I don’t wear very often, although I do have a bit of navy in my wardrobe color palette. However, I loved the cream to midnight blue hues in this vest and it was like nothing that I have ever seen before, which is a major selling point for me, as you all know!

I’m really eager to put this piece to use in my wardrobe because I’ve never owned a faux fur vest before (Aside from the one that I owned for one day, lol.). Of course, you can go the classic route of wearing a faux fur vest with a great pair of skinnies and ankle booties. But, I’m more looking forward to styling this vest with maxi dresses and skirts, as well as mini and midi dresses with thick tights for the fall season.

Despite being forever in mourning for my vest that could have been but never was, I’m happy with this Thread & Supply purchase. The unexpected color palette puts a fun twist on a classic piece, and it will be exciting to experiment with styling something that I’ve never worn before. BUT, I already know that if I find the right black faux fur vest or one in a different, funky color, that it will more than likely be coming home with me, as well!

Vests are a great item to invest in for wearing year round. This one will surely be making an appearance in my looks next summer for a sassy, glam OOTD with short shorts and platform heels. The possibilities are truly endless when it comes to adding a chic, rocker vibe to any outfit with a faux fur vest and I’m so happy to finally be able to have one to play with! 😀

So there you have it, a little touch of Faux Fur Fabulous! Do you have a similar story to a piece of clothing like my “one that got away” vest? How do you incorporate a faux fur vest into your outfits? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

Assembling A Grooming Kit For The Man In Your Life

Standard
Assembling A Grooming Kit For The Man In Your Life

There’s no denying that women get the best stuff when it comes to beauty. We get the clothes, shoes, and accessories. And, to top it all, we get the beauty products. While more men are admitting to using moisturizer, it’s still not the norm. And, male makeup is even less so. While we get to luxuriate in lipsticks and explore with eyeliner, men get funny looks if they put so much as a splash of foundation on. It’s a shame.

A more intense grooming routine might not be on your guy’s radar. But there’s no better time than the present to introduce them to one! If you feel bad your man doesn’t have a beauty kit to match yours, it might be time to treat him to one of his own. Of course, you need to specify to his needs, so why not focus on shaving? If he’s seen this as a purely practical part of life thus far, he’s sure to appreciate a little added luxury to his routine. Here are a few ways that you can provide it:

A New Razor: Start by stocking up on new razors. He may already have one that is functional – but, functional won’t cut it. Instead, get him the best choice possible by looking at reviews like the ones on iwantashaver.com. During your research, look out for options that have something special. Perhaps they’re tailored for comfort or have a few extra clip ons. Either way, you want something that stands apart from what he’s already got to add that extra sense of luxury.

Beard Oil: Recent years have seen a significant boost to beard oil sales. These wonderful smelling oils give any beard a much-needed shimmer. Encourage your man to add on to his morning routine by buying him a kit with a few different oils. This is an added touch of pampering, which he’ll surely grow to love!

man1

Fancy stuff!

Shaving Cream: As with the razor, your man probably has shaving cream already. But, any old option isn’t going to help him enjoy shaving sessions. Instead, look into some more upmarket options. Something scented with a smell he adores is sure to go down well. Find a scent that’s invigorating for his morning routine to dissipate any grumpiness before that first cup of coffee!

Brushes: Of course, that cream won’t do any good if he has no way to apply it. He could always us his fingers, but it’s hardly the best way to a winning beauty routine. Instead, it’s worth buying him a set of shaving brushes. If you don’t fancy a whole set, you could choose a top-quality standalone which will provide the same experience.

man2

I want one of those for me! 😀

Somewhere To Keep It All: Us women keep our makeup in bags or vanity cases. But, men more often than not shove their shaving stuff wherever it fits. Stop that habit by buying him a bag of his own, like this one at www.sleepypandapieces.com. Not only is this more practical, but it ensures that his beauty routine will feel like more of an event. Just like you, he’ll have to get his kit out before he can get ready each morning!

Everyone needs a little pampering in their lives and it’s easy to forget that guys do, too. Surprise him with a shaving kit just in time for the end of No Shave November for extra brownie points for days!

Great Ways To De-Stress

Standard
Great Ways To De-Stress

There are plenty of ways to relax. You can read a book, have a long bath, or watch your favorite movie with a takeout dinner. But what about those days when you can’t relax? You need to let off some steam after a hard day, and these things all seem too passive? You’re much too agitated to sit still. You need to de-stress and unwind before you are ready to chill out.

Well, fortunately, you don’t need to be stuck thinking about your day, winding yourself up more and more until you can’t sleep. With the right techniques, you can get yourself perfectly zen before hitting the sack. Here are some of the best ways to de-stress after a hard day:

Do Something Creative: Using your energy for something creative is a great way to burn it off, and you may even create something amazing. Draw, paint, or play an instrument. Even if you’re not creatively talented, you can always try something new and find that you really enjoy it – even if you’re not the best. You don’t need to be good at an instrument to have fun trying, check out kindsound.com for some ideas. You also don’t need to be a great artist to make a picture. Adult coloring means that anyone can spend time using creative energies. Have a look at justcolor.net for some great printables.

destress

So fun!

Go For A Run: Running is a brilliant way to de-stress. You don’t need to go anywhere special or invest in expensive equipment. You just need some cheap trainers to get started. Run straight out of your front door, focusing on the rhythm of your feet hitting the ground and feel your stress leaving your body. Run until you feel better or you can’t run anymore. Then, turn around and go home. You’ll feel more relaxed and confident, and you’ll get a fantastic night’s sleep.

destress1

Do A Fitness Video: If you don’t fancy running, try an online fitness video, instead. There are plenty available on YouTube, but try something new like combat aerobics or boxercise to burn away some of that stress efficiently. Literally, punch it out of your body.

Have A Massage: Getting a massage is probably the most passive way to release your stress. You don’t have to do anything but lie there while someone else pounds the stress from your muscles, getting rid of your knots and helping to remove the tension from your body. Often after a good massage, people feel like a weight has been lifted from their shoulders. Swedish massages tend to be a very popular option and might be just what you need to unwind. If you are interested in learning more before you book an appointment, simply enter a search for “swedish massage in Missouri City, TX” (or your local area) to find the best massage therapists near you.

Massages are great for providing short term relief for stress. However, they are not going to be a cure for consistent pain, tension, or nerve issues. If this is something you are struggling with, it’s important to speak with your doctor. They might recommend physical therapy or perhaps Rolfing Structural Integration which is a combination of manual and movement therapy. Once your pain has improved, you will surely find that your stress levels will lower too.

Shout: If all else fails, scream and shout and let it all out! #britneyspears #will.i.am Sometimes there’s no better way to release everything than to scream. Go down to the bottom of your garden and scream your heart out. You might find that you feel much better afterward and who cares if you freak out the neighbors!

destress2

Ahhhhh!

Finding a way to let your feelings out can calm you down enough that you can enjoy the rest of your evening and get a great night’s sleep. If you can let these negative energies out productively and safely, then treat yourself, you deserve it.

Spur Your Creativity With A Photography Hobby: Here’s How

Standard
Spur Your Creativity With A Photography Hobby: Here’s How

In an effort to become a more wholesome and interesting person in the world around you, it’s likely that you’ll find the need to be creative as high on the list of new things to try. One of the most popular and easy to begin methods of doing so is to pick up a photography hobby. This is a discipline that is totally easy to begin, but incredibly difficult to master. What’s more is that because the art is so subjective in terms of what makes a good photograph, that learning more can be difficult and frustrating. But much like creative disciplines, such as writing, there is a “good” and a “bad” way to go about your practice. If you wish to write but can’t write in a way in which the people around you can interpret it, your years as a professional writer are likely numbered, if not nonexistent.

Luckily, there does exist solid methods for overcoming these difficulties relating to photography. Remember, beginning a creative discipline never demands that you are a master of the art. It simply demands that you try, keep pushing your comfort zone, and also attempt things that help you feel happy and sustained within the hobby. Because if you can’t do that, then why bother picking it up in the first place? The following tips will help you continue your newly found passion with a sense of interest and progression:

Anyone Can Start: Many people think that in order to begin photography you need to make a huge financial investment in the equipment. This is simply not true. Smartphones these days often have cameras capable of taking pictures in 4K and also come loaded with compositional lenses built into the software of the camera.

Of course, this is no substitute to a quality SLR camera with actual lenses, but it can help you start and get an idea for framing well. Taking pictures, no matter the device which is used is more of a matter of personal taste and ambition than what lenses you use. The effect is all that matters. It’s unlikely that while attending a photography gallery you’ll hear people complimenting the use of lenses. It’s usually the achieved effect which is the most important, so don’t feel stifled by a lack of equipment just yet, especially in the early days.

Study Skilled Photographers: Skilled photographers are a dime a dozen, so it’s worth looking at people who have managed to make it their career or working passion. For example, artists such as Peter Lik have crafted an interesting niche for themselves by taking stunning landscape photography, selling his work for millions. It’s important to understand just how great and motivational this can be. You should never be in photography for the profit motive, as you’re likely to be disappointed until you can truly call yourself a master of the craft. However, seeing the best examples around can help you feel inspired to truly dare to take the best shots awaiting you. See your life through the lens as these folks do, and you may even train your eye to take in the world around you much more perceptively.

A budding photographer worthy of fame and recognition may wait inside of you. But you’ll only know if you’re willing to practice and fail. Good luck!

New England Fall Fun

New England Fall Fun

Hello everyone and welcome to another fabulous post in my Falling For Fall series compliments of the sweet Ashley from Ashley Beth Beauty! One of the most well traveled areas in the US when fall time hits is New England. The beauty of the leaves changing on thousands of trees makes it an obvious travel spot, so what better way to learn more about New England than from a local?! Today, Ashley will be telling us about some amazing places to visit on your next NE vaca:

New England Fall Fun

Hey everyone! Today I’m going to talk about some different activities to do during your visit to New England this fall. From leaf peeping to apple picking and learning about the history of early America, there are many activities to do here, like the following:

New Hampshire’s White Mountains: If you want the ultimate fall experience in New England, visit the Omni Mount Washington Resort. It is in the heart of New Hampshire and there are plenty of activities for everyone to enjoy. The hotel itself is absolutely beautiful with the most breathtaking views. Since you are in the middle of Mount Washington, there are great hiking trails nearby with difficulty levels ranging from beginner to expert. If you have little ones, check out Story Land or Santa’s Village, which are both theme parks with shows, rides, and attractions. Another option is the Cog Railway. It is a three hour round trip train ride that will bring you to the top of Mount Washington. Talk about leaf peeping!

ne1

Salem, Massachusetts Witch Trials: The Salem Witch Trials were a series of hearings and prosecutions of people accused of witchcraft in colonial Salem, Massachusetts in the 1600s. Now the town of Salem brings the history and stories of these people to life. You can visit everything from the Salem Witch Museum to the historic House Of The Seven Gables. These are amazing activities for the history buffs, all while experiencing the beautiful foliage of Massachusetts. This city is located on the coast so you can learn a little history, shop, and check out Pickering Wharf.

ne2

Vermont Maple Syrup Tour: Sugarbush Farm in Woodstock, VT is a 550 acre farm, which is run by the Luce family. You can visit this farm and learn about the process of making and collecting maple syrup. They also make cheeses that you are welcome to sample. Not only do you learn a lot at this farm, but the views are absolutely amazing. You can hike along the trails and the ride up to Vermont is just gorgeous. Visit here during the fall, and the leaves and clear sky will make for great photos and memories. Check out their website for more information at http://www.sugarbushfarm.com !

Hope you all are inspired to take a fall trip to New England!
