What’s Giving You A Headache?

Standard

If you look down a list of the symptoms for pretty much any illness in the world, you’ll see “headache” listed as one of the symptoms. From the mundane through to the catastrophic, it seems that where there’s an illness there’s an associated headache with it. Then there’s the fact that headaches themselves can be idiopathic, occurring for no other reason than you’re a human being with a head – and sometimes, they just hurt because they feel like it. It’s actually considered fairly standard to suffer from a headache every day, especially the muscular, nagging tension headaches that we’re all so familiar with.

However, if you have a headache outside of the “norms”, how do you go about figuring out the cause? Or even if there is a cause? While no means exhaustive, below are some of the reasons why you might be experiencing a persistent and nagging headache. Some are for simple reasons, while others are more of a cause for concern. Have a glance over them and remember to always speak to your doctor if you have headaches that are concerning you. It’s almost certainly nothing to be worried about, so don’t panic, just be proactive about scheduling an appointment.

Dehydration: It seems that a glass of water is the cure for all illnesses these days, but that’s largely because… a glass of water can cure all illnesses. Water is fundamental for a human body that’s made up of 80% water, so if you’re not drinking enough, then it’s a cause for concern. Dehydration is speculated to be a primary cause of all headaches that don’t have an underlying condition. So your first step at the sign of throbbing temples should be to drink a few glasses of water and increase your intake of water-rich vegetables.

H2O!!

Carbon Monoxide Poisoning: Carbon monoxide is a stealth killer. The symptoms begin slowly and with no detectable cause, as the gas is odorless and undetectable without special monitoring equipment. If your headache is always at its worst when you’re at home, then it’s worth considering this as a cause. Always make sure that your gas supply is properly maintained by a plumbing service that you trust and ensure that you have carbon monoxide detectors both fitted and working at all times. It’s one to take seriously because carbon monoxide kills around 500 people per year. (Yikes)

Medication/Supplement Side Effects: If you take any medication or supplements on a regular basis and are experiencing headaches, then you should suspect them as the cause. Even the most benign of over-the-counter supplements can cause head pain, while prescribed medications are even more likely to be the culprit. This is especially true if your headaches have only started after beginning a new medication. Talk to your doctor to rule medication in or out. If it’s found to be an issue, there are usually alternatives that you can try to keep your headaches at bay.

Cures In The Kitchen

Cures In The Kitchen

If you’re feeling under the weather or suffering from an embarrassing complaint, you might not have to visit the doctor at all. There are a number of effective cures for all kind of maladies sitting right there in your kitchen. Check out these kitchen cures for common illnesses and cut down on those annoying trips to the pharmacy:

Ginger: Ginger doesn’t just give your curry a kick and make your cookies taste better – it can also help to relieve sickness and cure menstrual cramps. Many pregnant women are advised to eat crystallized ginger or drink a tea made with the spice if they want to prevent morning sickness and it is very effective at doing just that. However, what is less well-known is that ginger can also be used to ease the pain of menstrual cramps, thanks to its anti-inflammatory properties.

Cranberries: Urinary tract infections are no fun, nor is seeing your physician about the problem, but if you have some cranberry juice in the fridge, you might not have to visit the doctor at all. You see, cranberries contain proanthocyanidins – a compound that can fight the bacteria that cause urinary tract infections. By drinking a small amount of cranberry juice each day, you can protect yourself from further instances of UTIs, so it’s worth stocking up next time you’re at the store.

Cream of Tartar: Cream of tartar is usually used to leaven bread, cakes, and other foods, but did you know that it can help to cure everything from hemorrhoids to Candida, providing instant relief for the embarrassing conditions? Eating foods with cream of tartar in it or on its own might do very little, but if you can mix it with a glass of water and drink it down, it will do you a world of good. If that sounds too disgusting, a good cream of tartar supplement will give you all of the same benefits without making you want to throw up. Take it regularly and you’ll cut your chances of suffering from the conditions again in the future, although there is no guarantee of that.

Milk & Cheese: If you suffer from PMS and the mood swings that come with it, eating more calcium rich foods could help to reduce your symptoms. In fact, studies have shown that women with lower levels of calcium in the blood suffer more from PMS than those who don’t. So, drink your milk and have a slice of cheese daily to keep the condition at bay.

Sea Salt: If painful dry skin is your problem, before you spend your hard-earned cash on expensive skin creams and remedies, combine a cup of sea salt with half a cup of olive oil and massage it into your skin. Do this once a week and it is likely that you will see an improvement in the look and feel of your skin. This treatment, however, isn’t suitable for your face – a mixture of coconut and brown sugar will be better for those delicate parts of the body.

Although these remedies are all tried and tested, it is important that you seek your doctor’s approval if you have any doubts or questions about your condition.

Skype Consultations

Skype Consultations

Hi everyone and happy Hump Day! So in real life, I offer consultations to help people who are just starting out in the blogging world or for people who want to maximize their blog’s potential. Since lifewithlilred has been around for over two and a half years now, I like to think that I know a thing or two! In these consultations, we go over things like the blogger’s personal writing style, a blog name, a writing schedule, an introduction post, and the categories that they want their blog to cover. And, of course, I try to answer any questions that the person might have to the best of my ability as well as offer pro tips to maximize views on their page.

This past weekend, I redownloaded Skype after initially deleting my account so that I could chat with one of my blogging friends in Ghana. After a wonderful talk with someone on an entirely different continent, I asked myself why I couldn’t offer Skype Consultations to those in the blogging world. It wouldn’t be as “hands on” as a real life meeting, obviously. But, I would still be able to give some advice and insight into how to operate a freshly developed blog. And, I also think that I’m sort of funny so our consultation would be peppered with a sad attempt at humor!

If you are interested in a Skype Consultation with yours truly, feel free to email me at sarah.mush6794@gmail.com so we can discuss payment, schedule a time, and talk about your blog a little further so that I can plan our meeting accordingly. Much love. -Sarah

Ruby Tulip Launch!!

Hello everyone and happy Tuesday! This is a very exciting day because lifewithlilred’s very first signature scent is here in the form of Ruby Tulip, a roll on fragrance oil. Ruby Tulip was created by the unbelievably talented scentstress of Angie’s Bath & Body – a dear friend, Angela. Her and I collaborated on this scent and she took what little ideas I had and turned them into a beautiful fragrance. Ruby Tulip is available for purchase on Angela’s Etsy shop and with shipping will be just over fifteen dollars. A total smell goods steal!

As I pondered what to say about this scent, I hit a brick wall. Especially because Angela’s description of Ruby Tulip on her site is simply perfect. So, I’m taking the stumped wordsmith’s route here and sharing that with you because I literally couldn’t have said it better myself:

RUBY TULIP CUSTOM PERFUME – 1/3 oz. (roll-on)

This a very special creation. A dear friend of mine asked me to create something special for her and her beloved blog readers. And so I did.

RUBY TULIP is made from all natural ingredients and with pure love. It took almost 2 months to get all of the essential oils to work perfectly together and now it’s ready for the world. It’s a citrus scent, but lightly. It wears very well and may only need 1 touch up throughout the day.

INGREDIENTS: Fractionated Coconut oil, lavender essential oil, lemongrass essential oil, rosemary essential oils, sweet orange essential oil, and a smidge of honeysuckle fragrance oil.

You have the option of adding rose petals or ordering without. The rose petals are a beautiful addition to the perfume.

Ruby Tulip is packaged in a 1/3 glass roll-on bottle w/cap. It will be shipped in a black roll-on box and organza bag via USPS 1st Class Mail.

I truly hope that you love this scent as much as I do.

Thanks,
Angela

^^^ Told you I couldn’t have said it better myself!!

I want to thank Angela again for the hundred millionth time for creating Ruby Tulip for me but most importantly for all of you! Angela is an incredible businesswoman and you can check out her latest ventures on my most recent Accessory Story. While checking out Ruby Tulip’s page on Angela’s Etsy shop, be sure to treat yourself to some more divine bath and body care goodies like her body butters and sugar scrubs – I promise you that they won’t disappoint!

The Ruby Tulip Launch is a go and I am so excited to finally be able to share it with all of you! Who plans on making a Ruby Tulip purchase? What should Angela’s and my next fragrance be called? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

Sleep Trouble: What’s Keeping You Awake At Night?

Sleep Trouble: What’s Keeping You Awake At Night?

There’s been a growing trend in the wellness, health, and fitness industries towards helping people get a better night’s sleep. Given that around 45 percent of all individuals in the country are struggling to catch enough sleep every night, that can only be a good thing. Regular readers of my blog might remember my struggles with getting good sleep, and there’s every chance that almost half of you reading this will be experiencing something similar. And it’s a huge issue. You end up being less productive in the day, it affects your general health, and it can even result in conditions such as obesity, depression, and diabetes.

Scary, right? And it’s no surprise that many of us want to fix out sleep problems! The key to that is, of course, working out why you can’t get to sleep properly, which will give you the chance to address the issue. So, in today’s guide, we’re going to go through some of the most common factors that are lying behind many people’s sleep problems. Let’s take a closer look:

sleepy1

Zzzzz

Physical Pain: First of all, do you have pain problems? If you have a bad back or suffer from regular headaches, for example, it can be affecting your sleep. Try taking a warm shower or bath before going to bed – it will relax your muscles and give you the chance of getting a better quality of sleep than you are having right now. See your doctor, too, and talk to them about some basic pain management tips. Your doc might recommend heat pads or even painkillers on a temporary basis. Long-term care might involve physiotherapy which can help ease pain sans surgery. If this is the route you’d like to take, simply enter a search for “Best Physiotherapy clinic near me”. Be sure to read reviews to ensure that patients are satisfied with the care and voice any concerns you might have to your doctor too before making a final decision.

Mental Anguish: Other common causes of poor sleep are stress and anxiety. In an increasingly busy and stressful world, many of us battle against active brains that prevent us from getting some shut-eye. Most people will experience this at some point. The mind goes into overdrive, going through all of your problems in fine detail, and the more you think, the more your anxiety levels increase – meaning you slip into a vicious feedback loop. Yoga can help with this issue, as can mindfulness – the key to getting over your problem is to try and turn off your brain and prevent those intrusive thoughts from occurring in the first place.

sleepy2

Admittedly not the best place to fall asleep!

Environmental Issues: There is a vast range of environmental issues that can prevent you from sleeping properly. Internal factors include bed bugs, which can keep you up at night and cause intense itching, according to the Pest Control of Alabama. There are also external factors such as noise pollution and noisy neighbors, too – could the outside world be keeping you up at night?

Think about installing double – or triple – glazed windows if you want to reduce the impact of the former. For the latter, you have to play it carefully,. Talk to your neighbors first and most will tone it down a little. However, you can also contact your local EHP practitioner to act on your behalf if they continue to cause you problems.

Where People Go Wrong With Pests

Standard

One thing which often leaves homeowners filled with dread is the thought of pests in their property. They can do a ton of damage to the structure of your home. And not only that, but they can harm your family. Things like fleas and bed bugs can end up irritating your skin. And once you have the annoying bugs in your home, it can be a nightmare to get rid of them. A lot of people make errors which tend to mean that they become a regular occurrence in their home. Here are some ways that people go wrong with pests:

They try and find DIY ways to get rid of them: A lot of people make a vital error when attempting to get rid of pests by trying to cut corners. They think that they can easily find a DIY solution which will get rid of the pests from their home. For one thing, they do it to save money. But while there are some ways you might be able to say goodbye to them, doing it yourself is bound to lead to a return visit. You might get rid of a few of the pests with a homemade spray, but you might not catch them all if they are hidden.

Not only do DIY methods tend to be inefficient and ineffective but it can also pose a safety hazard. This is especially true if you are trying to get rid of insects that sting like hornets or bees. If you are dealing with a beehive on your property, countless pest control companies try to remove the hive in the most ethical way possible by relocating it. As bees are crucial to our environment, this is certainly something you will want to look for when you enter a search for “Bee Removal Doncaster” (or your local area). You might also want to find a service that can help rebuild the structure that may have been compromised when accessing the hive. That way, every process of the removal is handled with one appointment.

Therefore, it’s best to do a search for “effective pest solutions in Toronto” or your local area and call a professional to come and remove the pests. For one thing, they have done it so many times before, so they know where the pests might be hiding. And they will use a permanent solution so that you won’t have to worry about a return visit anytime soon! Hunt down a pest management company who can come out to your home quickly and get the job done in an efficient manner.

They forget about outside ones: You might be surprised to know that a lot of people make an error of thinking pests can only occur inside. We hear most often about pests like bedbugs and mosquitoes becoming problems in your home. But you also need to consider that pests might be in your garden, too. It’s easy to get fleas and ticks in your lawn if pets are in the backyard. And they could soon get inside your home if they are not dealt with quickly. When it comes to dealing with pests outside, again it’s best to get a professional to come and remove them quickly. That way, it will stop them from entering your home and causing your family a lot of trouble!

pest.jpg Pixabay Image

They don’t find a solution quickly: When someone notices a minor infestation, they think it might just be a one-off, so they might not opt to find a solution quickly. But this can be a big error if you do just leave it. The longer they are left without treatment from pest control services, the more of a chance they might spread around your home. And then you might struggle to get them under control. As soon as you spot a gathering of the pests, find a local company that will remove them immediately. That way, you can eliminate them before they become a huge problem!

And remember to watch out for signs of pests in your home. You might not see the pests in their form, so it’s best to look out for signs like the ones described in this article.

Jetting Off To Sunnier Climates? Make Sure Your Home Is Safe and Secure

Jetting Off To Sunnier Climates? Make Sure Your Home Is Safe and Secure

With January and February out of the way (easily the dullest and most depressing months of the year!) many of us are looking forward into 2017 and planning some of the fun things that we want to do. For some, this will mean an annual summer holiday, a week or two of great weather, delicious food, and plenty to see and do. However, as a homeowner, there’s always the major worry of home security when you go away. When your property is left unoccupied for a period of time, it dramatically increases your risk of a break in. Here are some of the ways that you can protect against this and get your home safe and secure by the time your summer vacation rolls around:

Get a Burglar Alarm Installed: If you don’t already have a burglar alarm installed, this should be high on your list of priorities. Not just useful for vacations but for day to day use, too. Did you know that most burglaries take place in the daytime? Being able to set the alarm when you go to work will thwart thieves who simply won’t stick around once the noise starts going off. It’s worth doing some research on the best home security systems and seeing which one suits you best.

Do you want an alarm that’s monitored? This means that if it goes off the security system call you (to see if it’s a false alarm) and if it’s not, they call the police. There’s a charge for this, but if you believe yourself to be especially high risk, it’s a good investment. Do you need an alarm which can be used with pets? This means that you can set it and your cat or dog won’t set it off. Either way, having a look at what’s on the market is your first step.

Invest in a High Quality CCTV System: CCTV is useful as it deters burglars (who want to minimize their risk of being caught) and if someone does try it, you have evidence. CCTV is also useful if you have vehicles outside of your home because if any damage or theft occurs, you will have video proof of what happened. Go with a system that records footage to a cloud-based server. That way if someone breaks into your home, they can’t just take the computer that the footage is stored on. You need a camera that records clearly because police won’t accept grainy recordings if you ever need to use it as evidence.

Consider Smart Lighting: ‘Smart home’ devices are becoming increasingly popular. Lighting is particularly useful from a home security perspective as it allows you to turn the lights in your home on and off without you being there. You control everything from an app on your phone so that you can give the illusion of someone being home and moving around in the property. Alternatively, you could use classic timer switches which are a much cheaper option. You can set lamps, televisions, and radios to go on and off at different times to further enhance the “I’m here but secretly I’m not” appearance.

Sore Throat When You Wake Up?

Sore Throat When You Wake Up?

Do you wake up from a refreshing night’s sleep only to find that your morning has been ruined before it’s even got started as you feel that familiar pain when you swallow? Having a sore throat in the morning is a fairly common complaint and although it’s irritating, it is rarely a cause for concern. Of course, just because a sore throat isn’t going to kill you doesn’t mean that it can’t be really annoying when it happens, which is why you need to know what you are dealing with so that you can put your morning sore throats to bed once and for all. Here are some of the most common causes of sore throats upon waking:

Snoring: When you snore, your mouth is open and your throat can get quite dry because of all the air that you are taking in. If you wake up only to find that your throat is hoarse and dry, it could be that you are snoring and should try to record yourself sleeping for a few nights or ask your sleeping partner to listen out, if you have one. If you are snoring a lot, take a look at http://www.webmd.com/sleep-disorders/features/easy-snoring-remedies#1 to sort the problem out and start waking up pain-free.

Dehydration: If you don’t drink enough fluids before you hit the hay or if your room is too dry, you could become dehydrated through the night. This, like snoring, can cause your throat to dry up and become sore.

Acid Reflux: If you wake up not only to a sore throat but also to an unpleasant sour taste in your mouth, there is a good chance that acid reflux could be the problem. Acid reflux is a condition in which the acid in your stomach partially comes back up through the esophagus. It can cause stomach pain, heartburn, and sore throats (and bad breath!!). You can deal with acid reflux by following the steps at https://chriskresser.com/get-rid-of-heartburn-and-gerd-forever-in-three-simple-steps/. If reflux continues to be a problem after this, see a doctor

A Swollen Uvula: The uvula is that small bit of skin that hangs down at the back of your mouth. It can become inflamed and swollen when you are sick with a virus or infection, or when there is too much bacteria in the area. Although you are likely to experience throat pain all day when you have a swollen uvula, it could be the case that some of the other factors mentioned in this post can increase your throat pain when you wake up in the morning. You can find out more about the uvula at https://safesymptoms.com/swollen-uvula/ .

Upper Respiratory Infection: If your upper airway is infected, your nose will begin to produce more mucus than before as a form of defense against the invading virus. Sometimes, this mucus trickles down to the back of your throat when you’re sleeping and it can inflame, irritate, and dry out the area – meaning that your throat will be pretty sore in the morning.

If you continue to experience a sore throat upon waking for a prolonged period of time, you should definitely have it checked out by a doctor. Chances are it’ll be nothing serious, but it’s always best to know. And waking up ache free at the start of your day will also be an added plus!
