Last Minute Holiday Gifts

Last Minute Holiday Gifts

Howdy! As you all know, I am an early bird Christmas shopper. As someone who had an extensive tenure working retail from my teens to early twenties, the last thing I want is to be caught in the midst of holiday shopping anarchy. I experienced it first hand for so long that even now I can’t be bothered with it! I still have a handful of gifts to purchase and I feel like time is running out despite Christmas being over a month away lol. In my head it is down to the wire! Waiting till the true last minute, however, can be unavoidable so let’s explore some gift options that are sure to please when it gets down to the nitty gritty:

In the weeks leading up to the holidays, there are sure to be countless vendor fairs happening in your neck of the woods. This is a win/win situation to purchase from. You will be supporting local makers while checking off everyone on your list. From homemade crafts and body care to jewelry and sweet treats, you could consider an outing to a vendor fair as a one stop shop. If you are not sure where to find a vendor fair, take a look at your local talk of the town pages. You can also explore the calendars at churches, banquet halls, or community centers which are often popular places to host a vendor fair.

The beauty of food and drink gifts are that they can truly be purchased at the last minute! Your local grocery store might carry options like gift sets for chocolate, booze with a glass or two included, or a festive tin of mixed nuts or popcorn. If not, good thing you’re in a grocery store! Food and drink sets can easily be made on your own. All you need are some baskets and an idea. Perhaps you will opt for all of the fixings for soup or a pasta dish. Maybe you will put together a basket with cake mixes and a cupcake tin. How about a basket filled with movie theater candy for those with a sweet tooth? A gift like this can be perfectly customized to the recipient and will definitely be used.

There is this common fear that gift cards feel impersonal and not thoughtful enough. I think that can’t be farther from the truth! If you feel this way about gift cards, you can still personalize it to make it feel more special. You could treat a couple on your list to a gift card to the movie theater or a restaurant for a date night on you. Maybe you will get a gift card for your mom to get her nails done and you can get a mani or pedi together. What about a gift card to Home Depot or a craft store for those with a project in mind? Gift cards specific for what a person wants or needs to get done is extremely thoughtful!

Gifts of experience are always a fabulous way to go as it’s a clutter free gift and a way to have fun altogether. You could take the kiddos on your list to an afternoon at a trampoline park or an arcade. The adults could be treated to a few rounds of drinks at a favorite bar or a dinner out. If a play or musical is showing nearby, snag some tickets! Other great options include a craft workshop or paint class, bowling, a cooking class, or a coffee or wine tasting. Whether you try something new or visit a family favorite location, a day with family is the best gift ever.

A game gift is perfect for those who love to host game nights or enjoy a rousing board game with their partner or kiddos. Like food and drink gifts, game gifts are an extremely safe bet for last minute prezzies. Any store like Walmart is bound to have shelves full! Local gaming stores also will carry classic games as well as more unique ones that you might not find elsewhere. Board games, card shufflers, or video games can be used again and again to provide hours of amusement. You can also opt for a gift card for the Nintendo Switch or a subscription for PlayStation. Then, tie it in with a gift of experience like the first family game night taking place at your house!

Regardless of waiting until the last minute, these ideas above are always going to be available and ready to put under the tree!

Are you an early or last minute holiday shopper? When do you want to have your holiday shopping done by? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

6 Signs You’re Ready For Rejuvenation Therapies

6 Signs You’re Ready For Rejuvenation Therapies

Rejuvenation therapies might sound futuristic, but they’re actually becoming more common over time. As technology advances, more possibilities are emerging. But what are the signs you’re ready for one of these treatments? How do you know if you should go ahead? That’s what we’ll look at in this post:

If your biological age test came back higher than expected, then that could be a sign you’re ready for some sort of rejuvenating therapy. If you’re older than your chronological age, it suggests that something’s gone wrong with your lifestyle and you need to intervene. Pay special attention if the gap between the test and your real age is more than five years. Acting quickly can help prevent health issues from developing and creeping up on you in the future.

Another sign you’re ready for rejuvenation is when you flinch every time you encounter bright, white light. You worry about how the shadows cast on your face will actually look to other people. This feeling is even worse if you have “Gen Z face.” You’re not even that old! If lighting is an issue for you, look at ways to improve your skin tone. Eating more yellow vegetables is usually the best and most effective option.

The older you get, the more your hair is prone to falling out, wreaking havoc on your self confidence. Fortunately, hair restoration is commonplace these days, and the techniques are far more advanced than ever before. Surgeons simply transplant hair from one part of your scalp to the other, giving you a fuller look.

If you already started budgeting for supplements, you’re preparing yourself to spend a lot of money on pills you hope will keep you looking and feeling young and fresh. Some of the best supplements are things like NAD boosters and fucoidan. However, there are plenty of others worth exploring that you should consider investigating if you have the time.

You might also be ready for rejuvenation therapy if you fear missing out every time someone on Twitter drops a rejuvenation thread. If you’re reading it and wishing it was you in the hyperbaric oxygen chamber, you’re not alone!

Lastly, you might seriously want to look into various rejuvenation therapies if your joints are creaking and aching. These can make them far less likely to hurt in the future and help keep you fit and active.

The best therapies are things like peptides and plasma infusions. These get right to the source of the problem and help to rebuild any damage. You could also just look at improving your diet and still get good results!

Survive Your Renovation With These Tips

Survive Your Renovation With These Tips

There are countless reasons to renovate your home and it can provide a huge boost in property value and curb appeal. But, this often takes more time and effort than many homeowners realize, especially when it’s a live-in renovation. It’s easy to see why it can get stressful quickly. This doesn’t always have to be the case. Some of these tips have a lot more of an impact than others, which is why they’re always worth starting off with. Whether it’s your first home renovation or your fifth, let’s explore some of the best ways to make your reno a breeze:

There’s often a lot more involved in a renovation than most people expect. You’ll need to consider demolition work, any systems that need to be replaced, the exact upgrades you’re making, finishing touches, and storage options. It’s difficult to keep track of all of this in your head. You’re much better off having a checklist that goes through exactly what needs to be done and when. It’ll help make sure you don’t forget about anything and prevent last minute frustrations.

You already know you’ll need a team to carry out your renovation work for you. But, that doesn’t mean just hiring anyone you come across. Make sure they’re experts in the exact kind of work you need, as it will make sure everything is done to a high standard. If you’re planning a kitchen renovation, for example, a trustworthy kitchen remodeling expert is who you should go for. While that could mean spending a little more compared to a generalist, the added quality and craftsmanship you get with this is more than worth it.

You’ll have plenty of belongings in any room you’re renovating and you should get these out of the way as early as possible. It gives your contractor the space they need to work, keeps your belongings safe, and just makes the whole process easier. Declutter as much as you can ahead of time. If you’re just renovating one room, you could move your belongings into another room to keep them safe. For whole-home renovations, you could need to rent a storage unit.

As much as you want your home renovation, you don’t want to deal with a lot of stress and hassle during the process. Thankfully, you don’t have to put up with that. The right renovation tips should be more than enough to avoid a lot of issues going forward!

How To Increase Your Body Confidence This Year

How To Increase Your Body Confidence This Year

Feeling confident in your own skin is something that we all deserve to experience, yet so many of us don’t. If you know that you’d really like to take control of your body confidence this year, it’s time to do something about it! Here’s how to get started:

When you’re done with feeling down and you know you want to feel more confident, the best way to start is by making sure that you’re kind to yourself. It’s counterintuitive to want to feel more confident, yet constantly be self-deprecating. When you aim to make a big change in life, it can feel overwhelming, and you can resist it. Start off small, be kind to yourself mentally and physically, and let yourself embrace the change as it comes.

The next thing for you to focus on is movement. This isn’t to change your body type unless it’s something that you want to do. The whole idea here is that exercise is going to bring you endorphins, and they’re going to make you feel good. Alongside that, as you start to gain more energy and you build more muscle in your body, it’s going to make you feel much more confident in your own skin. What’s not to love about that?

If you do have insecurities, it’s important to make sure that you’re tackling them rather than letting yourself worry about parts of your body that you don’t like. Looking to change them or transform them can make a difference. For example, if you’ve spent years trying to lose stubborn belly fat and it’s not shifting, opting for a tummy tuck could be the perfect thing for you. Turning to surgery used to be such a taboo topic but there is absolutely no shame in it. You can learn to love your insecurities, but sometimes changing them is exactly what you need.

One really easy trick to make sure that you feel more body confident is to make sure that you’re dressing for your body shape. It’s easy to look at the different trends and want to adopt them, but if they don’t work for your figure, you may not feel good. Instead, when you focus on wearing clothes that work with your body shape and make you feel more confident, it’s going to really impact how you feel on a daily basis.

Ultimately, it’s all about empowering yourself. This is something that you need to curate and you need to drive. When you feel more empowered, you naturally feel more confident. It’s not just about working on the way that you look, it’s working on your mind too. Adopting a more positive, self-supportive, and encouraging mindset is the best gift you can give yourself. When you start to speak to yourself better and treat yourself better, you’ll feel a lot more empowered. Empowerment is a state of being that can create more confidence, and it is exactly what you need this year.

Boosting your confidence is all about talking the talk and walking the walk too. Set small goals to start with and you will keep feeling better and better!

Safety First

Safety First

Howdy!! We are obviously living in some pretty crazy times and one of the best things that you can do is be safe. I had a situation on Monday that I think is worth offering a friendly reminder for. Maybe it was nothing. Maybe I watch too many true crime documentaries lol. However, this is a good tip to pass along if you should experience something similar…

When I got home from work on Monday, Johnny was heading out the door to meet his mom for dinner. After he left, I went into the kitchen to make myself something to eat. Grilled cheese and tomato soup for the win on a chilly fall day! Less than ten minutes later (Between five and seven, I would guesstimate), I got a knock on my door. I thought Johnny might have forgotten something but he always announces himself when he’s at the door and I’m by myself. From the kitchen, I could see that it was an older man who I didn’t recognize at all.

As we had no memos from our apartment community for maintenance checks, I knew that it was not someone who worked on the property. He left after a few minutes and there was no note at the door which confirmed it wasn’t someone who was employed where I live. I decided to call my downstairs neighbor and he didn’t have any visitors at his place and I thought that was odd. If this person was selling something, it would make sense that he knocked on my neighbor’s door next.

Once again, it could have been nothing but the reminder is: If you are home alone and not expecting anyone that it is okay to not open the door. If you have an off feeling, then listen to yourself. I definitely had a weird feeling when the person arrived so shortly after I was by myself and remained in the kitchen until the coast was clear. Should you answer the door and the person questions if there is anyone with you – lie. Your neighbor is about to stop by for coffee. Your partner is returning home from work. You are expecting a call from your boss. Anything to get that door shut again. Also, don’t open the screen door and keep one hand on your phone and your other hand on the knob so you can shut it quickly.

Being cautious when you are by yourself at home and not expecting anyone at your door is smart. If you don’t have a safety plan in mind, I encourage you to make one so you don’t feel on the spot when you feel like something is off!

Do you have a safety plan in place for yourself? What is on your plan? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

How To Pest-Proof Your Lawn Before Winter

How To Pest-Proof Your Lawn Before Winter

You ever notice how when the weather finally cools down, you’re excited for cozy sweaters and hot chocolate, but every bug in existence seems to get the same idea? Yeah, it’s not really a fun way to have a seasonal shift, right? Well, not just bugs (though it’s mostly bugs), but mice and other pests too. Unlike birds, pests don’t migrate south for the winter; they’re trying to get into your warm house instead. Your lawn is basically like a waiting room for pests until they can get into your home. Usually, this can be fairly preventable, but it starts with your lawn and utilizing these tips:

On the one hand, your lawn is nature and it needs nature to thrive (obviously). But at the same time, if you let Mother Nature set its course, or welcome Mother Nature a little too much, that means a bug infestation. Obviously, there needs to be a balance, because you can’t just expect to have literally zero pests in your lawn; that’s not possible or healthy. If your lawn is covered in leaves, sticks, and grass clippings, it’s basically saying, “Come on in”. Well, for a bug (or even mice), that’s what it seems like. So, is it autumn? Is it damp? Is there anything like leaves decomposing? That’s perfect for bugs and rodents trying to stay warm. You just need to clean it up, rake the leaves, compost (in a bin) the leaves, remove trash, cut the grass, it’s those sorts of things that make a big difference.

This was already mentioned, but it helps to just say it again. People often forget that lawns are alive. Think of it like this: Too much moisture – that means grubs. Are there dead spots? You can say hello to ants. You get the picture. For the most part, a healthy lawn does fight back. And sure, it can be hard having to “perfect” this art, like aerating the soul, bug control, fertilizer, ect, and in that case, if you have the money for it, it could help to look into SolTerra Lawn & Pest since they can keep your lawn strong and keep the bugs outside (and not going into your house).

Here’s an example: you know that crack near the garden bed you’ve been ignoring for months? The bugs are using it. In general, those little gaps in the soil, patio, or fence line are where bugs crawl into to stay warm. So you will need to fill or patch these ASAP. The same goes for standing water, too, like puddles. Standing water can, of course, damage the lawn further and bring pests right to your front door.

Fixing problem areas in your lawn can help keep your home pest free for the winter. Start now while the weather is still warm(ish)!

How To Handle Home Emergencies Like A Pro

Standard
How To Handle Home Emergencies Like A Pro

No matter how organized you are, home emergencies have a way of showing up at the worst possible moment. IE: A burst pipe just before bed, a power cut on a cold evening, a leak in the roof when it’s pouring down, and so on – you know the kind of thing. The problem is that these things happen fast, and when they do, it’s easy to panic. A calm, practical response can make a big difference to the outcome, and knowing what to do in those first few minutes can save you money, reduce damage, and keep your home safe. Keep reading to find out more:

Before anything else, make sure the situation isn’t putting anyone at risk. For example, if there’s water involved, switch off the electricity before going near the problem, and if there’s a fire or gas leak, leave the property immediately and call emergency services. Then, once you know everyone’s safe, you can turn your attention to limiting the damage.

A lot of emergencies are made worse because people don’t know where their stopcock or fuse box is, which is why it’s worth taking a few minutes as soon as you can to learn how to turn off your water, gas, and power quickly. This small bit of knowledge can stop a minor issue from turning into a disaster because doing something like turning off the main water supply right away can make a huge difference if a pipe bursts.

Quick action often means less damage, so if water is leaking, use buckets or towels to stop it spreading, and if the roof is letting water in, a temporary cover can protect belongings until help arrives. Why do something at that point even if you’ve got help on the way? It’s because even a few simple steps in those first moments can save a lot of stress later on.

Some jobs are best left to professionals, especially when it comes to plumbing, electrics, or structural issues. If a burst pipe has caused flooding, getting water damage restoration experts in quickly can prevent mold, protect flooring, and stop further problems from developing. In other words, don’t wait until things get worse to pick up the phone – calling early usually means less disruption and lower repair costs.

You don’t need to turn your house into a survival bunker, but having a few basics ready can make emergencies easier to manage. Your kit could include a flashlight, spare batteries, a few tools, sandbags or sealant, and a copy of emergency contacts can all help you act fast. Even if you never end up needing to use your kit, it’s always better to err on the side of caution and have one ready anyways.

Home emergencies are stressful, but they don’t have to be overwhelming. Keeping a calm head, a bit of preparation, and knowing when to bring in professional help can make all the difference!

Last Minute Halloween Costumes

Last Minute Halloween Costumes

Hello! Halloween is just around the corner! Are you ready? I sure am! In fact, I’ve been ready since last Halloween. 😀 It goes without saying that everything is SO. Freaking. Expensive nowadays and I completely understand not wanting to shell out for a costume if you are attending a party or an evening at the bars. As much as I love spooky season, I’m genuinely bitter by how expensive my own costume was. If you want to dress up on a budget, there are still plenty of options for you to show out in your Halloween best. Let’s explore a few last minute, budget friendly costumes that you can make with pieces you probably already own:

If you’re like me, you are an early bird holiday shopper. Or, you might also be like me and love to online shop period! What does online shopping mean? Lots of boxes! Perfect for jerryrigging a robot costume. With a few boxes and spray paint, you’re in business for a classic robot fit. Simply pair your creation with a black long sleeved shirt and black jeans for underneath and viola. Just don’t try and take over the world when you’re wearing it! 😉

If you have a pair of boyfriend or baggy jeans and an old flannel, look no further. A scarecrow costume is the one for you! Bonus points if you have a straw hat but that could easily be found marked down in store for summer clearance or at a costume shop. You could even attach a few decorative crows or birds from a craft shop to your shoulder. You will need some patchwork makeup to sell this look so opt for bright oranges and yellows for this to make it pop. How easy is that?

Love wearing the color red? Love it! If you have a pair of red jeans, a red top, and some funky red shoes or heels – turn this into a devilishly good COTD. Hit up Spirit Halloween for a pair of devil horns and a tail or staff if you’d like and your costume is good to go. This can also be done with an All Black Everything motif!

A few years ago I had absolutely no time to costume shop but still wanted to dress up, of course. So, I decided to dress up as my husband! After raiding his wardrobe, I came up with a COTD that was a huge hit and was so proud of the reaction I got for such a scrambled costume. This is a fun idea for couples, besties, or siblings so have a wardrobe swap and you’ve got a costume without spending a dime.

If you have a fancy suit or still own your prom dress or perhaps a bridesmaid dress – be king or queen for the day prom style. You can even make it scary by going as the Carrie version of prom king or queen! Complete the look with a crown and sash and you have my vote for Best Costume. This is your time to shine if you have kept your prom relics so break it out again for the one time!

If you have a majority of the pieces for these ideas, it will cost you roughly twenty to twenty-five dollars to purchase the remaining accessories you need, makeup, or spray paint. Make these last minute costumes your own and no one will be the wiser that you balled on a budget to create them!

What was your favorite Halloween costume you have worn? What are your Halloween plans? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

Holiday Shopping For The Kiddos

Standard
Holiday Shopping For The Kiddos

Hello! Johnny and I are the fun aunt and uncle to five amazing kiddos and it’s always so exciting to celebrate the holiday season together. I am pleased to report that I have put a decent dent in my Christmas shopping and like to think of myself as an excellent gift giver. However, with several holidays as an aunt under my belt, even I admit that I need some inspiration now and then for children’s gifts. There are seemingly endless options of adorable things and it can be hard to narrow it down! Let’s explore a few ideas to get that gift inspo flowing for the littles in your life:

Honestly, one of the best things you can do is simply ask the parents lol. This might sound lazy but it’s so true and you can be sure that you are getting exactly what is needed and wanted. It could be clothing in a certain size, a particular toy they have their eye on, or a couple packs of supplies like diapers and wipes. The last thing parents need is more clutter like yet another package of play food or making trips to return or exchange presents. If you are unsure – just ask!

Speaking of clutter, the resounding theme I have heard this year from my parent friends is wanting gifts of experience for their children. This is a fabulous way to make memories and have cherished quality time. It could be a trip to the zoo or aquarium, purchasing lessons for swimming or theater, or tickets to a movie or live show. Several beloved children’s programs like Paw Patrol, The Wiggles, and Gabby’s Dollhouse have theater performances that super fan kiddos will love. Lots of local theaters also have performances of The Grinch, Elf, and Rudolph which could be tons of fun too to get into the holiday spirit.

If your littles are anything like mine, they love to get artsy! Arts and crafts gifts are great and can give parents a welcome reprieve while their kids work on their own projects. It could be big coloring or sticker books, figurines to paint, packs of model clay or kinetic sand, jewelry making kits, or retro fuzzy posters to spend an afternoon coloring. If you want to combine art with a gift of experience, how about a trip to a pottery studio like Color Me Mine or All Fired Up? Then you can enjoy creating together and eagerly await to pick up your masterpieces after they have been glazed.

Of course, Lego is an incredibly popular toy but it is also incredibly expensive! There are some loopholes though. 😀 If you have a 5 Below near you, check it out. The one that I shop at has several Lego Creator and even Technic sets on the cheap. I was really surprised to find them and got a handful of kits for a song as one of my gifts for my nephew. 5 Below also has pseudo Lego kits for Strawberry Shortcake, Hello Kitty, and candy like Hershey’s and Reese’s. This can give a taste for building without breaking the bank.

And, finally, there is a store in my neck of the woods called The Exchange. It is a buy/sell/trade shop for video games, movies, records, and memorabilia and oftentimes they have used Lego sets there. If you have a similar store in your vicinity, it doesn’t hurt to stop by. Mine currently has a lot of the Wicked sets there for close to half off. Why pay more when you can pay less?!

If your little has been longing for a pet of their own and it isn’t possible, there are SO many cute animal care toys on the market. My eldest niece, for example, would love pet bunnies because of my Melvin and Penelope. Who can blame her? They’re the cutest! Last year for Christmas, I got her a Little Live Pets set for bunnies and she absolutely loved it. These toys come with a mama animal and babies to birth. It also includes clothes to dress them up in, play food to feed them, and bedding to make their hutch cozy. These toys make noises and are super interactive. It could be the perfect introduction to caring for a pet of their own some day! *Note: PLEASE don’t gift real animals for the holidays. They are family, not a present to be returned.*

It feels like October is flying by and the holidays are just around the corner. Stay tuned for more inspo guides from your girl all holiday season long!

Are you an early or last minute holiday shopper? Who is the most difficult person to shop for on your list? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

The Everyday Mistakes That Are Damaging Your Skin

Standard
The Everyday Mistakes That Are Damaging Your Skin

Everyone wants radiant, healthy skin. But sometimes there are barriers in the way of achieving the glow you want or are working towards, and no matter what you do, your efforts aren’t rewarded with the results you want. Chances are, you’re making mistakes that are hampering your progress, stopping you from achieving that fresh-faced look. Let’s look at a few of the most common mistakes so you can step up your skin care game even more:

Nothing beats that fresh, clean skin feel, but cleansing too often or using too harsh a cleanser for your skin can strip it of its oils and can upset the protective barrier. The result? Redness, irritation, and more breakouts and dry patches than you started with. The trick is to cleanse gently using an appropriate cleanser for your skin type once or twice per day.

Or not using it at all. And those UV rays that damage your skin? They’re present even on cloudy days, too, and in the winter. The damage can be done all year round, not just in the height of summer. Skipping sunscreen speeds up visible aging and increases your risk of skin cancer, too. Try adding a lightweight SPF 30 to your skincare routine for maximum protection benefits.

There is no quick fix for good skin. Good skin is the culmination of religious skincare routines that are consistent every single day. While those hydrating and glowing face masks can give you the moisture boost and healthy look you need before a night out, the effects will only be temporary. The same principles apply to co-harmonizing and harmonizing products. You need to find the right products for your skin and use them consistently to get the benefits and glowing skin you want.

The importance of using ingredients that will directly benefit your skin type cannot be understated. For example, a teenager using retinol products will experience dryness and irritation. A thirty something will benefit from enhanced elasticity. When you shop for skin care products on www.skindeepprofessional.com (or your favorite skin care brand), pay close attention to the ingredients listed and take note of the changes you see as you use it. If your skin has never looked better, you’re on the right path. If you notice irritation, discontinue use immediately.

Sidestepping visiting a dermatologist for skin concerns can end up making matters worse than they were. A dermatologist can enlighten you as to the health of your skin and what you need to do and products or ingredients you need to use to achieve the skin of your dreams. From here, you can implement the perfect skincare routine, choose appropriate products, and even discover skincare treatments that can boost your skin health, such as laser skin resurfacing or acne laser treatment.

Yes, what you put on your skin matters, but also how you live your life matters too. Dehydration, a poor diet, increased stress levels, and a lack of sleep all impact your skin. And before you know it, you’re showing the signs of your lifestyle habits in your skin. Drink plenty of water, eat a nutritious, balanced diet, prioritize sleep, and work on reducing stress levels to help you work on your skin from the inside out. If you’re not addressing the fundamentals of good health, even the best skincare products and routine in the world won’t have any impact.

Healthy skin isn’t about chasing perfection; it’s about avoiding the habits that damage your skin and hold you back. By focusing on the points above and removing everyday skincare mistakes in your life, you can start to reap the benefits of great skin!
