If The Shoe Fits: Lulu Hun Edition

Hiii everyone and welcome to a new edition of If The Shoe Fits! Recently, ModCloth had a warehouse sale and everything in their markdown section was either forty, thirty, twenty, ten, or five dollars. It. Was. Amazing. When ModCloth has a sale that good, it’s hard not to buy anything and I ended up ordering three pairs of shoes for thirty dollars each. The best part, is that every single pair was well over one hundred dollars. Such a steal! Take a look at this darling heeled oxford pair by Lulu Hun and let’s discuss:

It was such fun to open my package once it arrived and be greeted by the adorable design on the box. The retro pinup girl is too cute and the motto “Style starts with shoes” is one that I definitely concur with, considering I can’t stop buying them to save my own life. Although there were many gorgeous clothing options to pick from during the warehouse sale, the trick was that every item you bought was final sale and could not be returned. I don’t have the guts to purchase final sale clothes online so shoes, shoes, and more shoes it was! So not mad about it, though. 😀

As soon as I saw these stunning Merlot and camel heeled oxfords, I just had to get them. The color combination is divine and they are versatile, because they will be great for work or play. There is nothing better than pairing a smart oxford style shoe with sharp skinnies for a cool business casual look. And, they will look so sweet come fall with a sweater dress, blazer, and thick tights.

My only complaint about these shoes, is the quality is not the best. I say this, because while I was putting them back in the box after taking pictures of them, one of my nails went into the material and when I say went into, I mean went through. My acrylics are actually quite dull right now because it’s been a while since I got them filled and they still managed to pierce the colored outer layer completely. It’s a small blemish but I’m not thrilled about it and plan on being extra careful when I wear them.

Despite a minor hiccup, I’m still really happy with this purchase and the bargain price that I got it at. 10/10 would hit the ModCloth warehouse sale again and hope they bring it back soon!

Hello! My parents are seriously one of the cutest couples on the planet, and they always seem to be doing something sweet for each other. Just this past week, for example, my dad brought home the gorgeous tulips seen below for my mom to bring a little spring to her step despite the insane snowfall our neck of the woods was hit with. He also used a Precious Moments advertisement in the Parade magazine to make the most precious thing I’ve ever seen. Check it out:

Every year, my dad plans an amazing summer family vacation. And, after my mom had read several books set at charming beach locations, she decided that the sea was the place to be. Coincidentally, my dad was thinking the same thing after many trips to the mountainous North Carolina region. So, he chose Hilton Head for the very first Mushenheim family beach vacation.

Shortly after this decision was made, I saw the Precious Moments ad hanging on our refrigerator with some adjustments to it in my dad’s handwriting. It was basically the sweetest thing I’ve ever seen and I think my mom agrees, because it has been displayed ever since. This, on top of the lovely bouquet that my dad bought for her is more adorable than I can bear and, needless to say, my parents are definitely #relationshipgoals!

Whether it’s the anniversary of your first date, when your relationship began, or your wedding anniversary, it’s always nice to celebrate and mark the occasion, isn’t it? Of course, knowing how to celebrate in a romantic way isn’t always easy. However, if you’re smart about what you plan, you can organize the most amazing day ever for you and your partner. In need of some inspiration? Have a read of the tips and ideas below for marking your anniversary in the most best way:

Start the day right with breakfast in bed:

Treating your partner to breakfast in bed? Get creative and treat them to the perfect dish. You could opt to make a traditional breakfast, such as a fry up a sausage or bacon sandwich. Or, how about trying something a little different.

One way to do this is to cut the toast into hearts or you could even do pancakes and waffles in heart shapes with your partner’s favorite toppings. You can buy heart-shaped pancake pans and waffle irons or silicone molds to use to create these cute shaped breakfasts. You can also buy egg shapers for heart-shaped fried eggs to add a little extra sweetness to their favorite eggs on toast combo.

When finding a card for your partner, it doesn’t just have to be a standard happy anniversary card. You could try and find a card that represents your relationship with a picture or a joke that you can laugh about together.

If you are struggling to find one, then you could look to order it online on websites like Moonpig or Funky Pigeon where you can personalize the card with pictures of your relationship or something that represents your relationship. What’s great about these services, is the fact that you can also choose to have this sent to you blank so you can fill it in by hand which is more personal, or if you would prefer, you can just type your message in via the website.

Pick an amazing gift:

Choosing gifts for your partner can be difficult, so it is always best to think about what your partner likes and what their interests are, so that you can get an idea of the perfect present. During the time that you are together before your anniversary, look at the sort of things that they tend to treat themselves to or talk about wanting to have and try to keep a mental note of this, so you know what sort of things you need to look out for. For example, these hearts on fire diamonds at Dipples could be the perfect gift for a girl who considers diamonds to be her best friend!

You could also take inspiration from the internet. Places like Pinterest are great for gift ideas as you can search a general category and different boards that have been created will come up giving you all sorts of ideas and indications of what your partner may be into. You can search for things like ‘gifts for music lovers’ or ‘gifts for fashion junkies’ which will give you plenty of options to choose from.

When it comes to the actual day itself, it is a day for both of you so you can book a surprise trip for your anniversary and give it early so that you have a lovely time away with your partner or it can be something you plan together. Some couples like to just have a nice day in watching movies, cooking, and enjoying each other’s company. This is fine, but if you know your partner would love to go out somewhere, then there are a lot of things you can consider planning. When planning the day, think if there is anywhere they have always wanted to go or mentioned they enjoyed previously, or pick somewhere that is special to the both of you and your relationship.

If you really want to go all out, you could plan an incredible getaway. If you are visiting beautiful Hawaii, Kauai Farm Tours could be the spot for a romantic dinner. You could do a tour of museums in a new state. How about a stop at some local breweries or wineries? Or, perhaps, a “best of” tour of your favorite food at your vacation destination – burgers in London, anyone? Whatever and wherever you choose, it will be an anniversary for the ages!

After an exciting day out, the fun doesn’t have to end there. You can also plan to have a relaxing evening in together. When you get back, you could go out for a meal and drinks or go out to go bowling or to watch a movie. If you have had a long day and fancy an evening in, you can spend it watching a film with a takeaway meal and a drink or you could cook a delicious dish together.

Planning an anniversary can be stressful, but it doesn’t have to be. With these hints and tips, you can have an amazing time with your partner, celebrating your relationship.

Holiday Gathering OOTD

Hi! With the holiday season in full swing now, it’s important to be able to put together a lovely OOTD for any get togethers that you might be attending. The outfit in this post is actually what I wore for Thanksgiving, and it has given me a good template to follow for a look that’s classy but still fun around your family, friends, or total strangers! Take a look at some pics and let’s discuss:

Who? What? Wear?

When thinking about what I wanted to wear on Thanksgiving day, my BCBG layered sweater dress seemed like an obvious choice. It’s so cute and comfortable while still looking really chic, and that is a must because Lil Red always tries to show out at family events! Plus, this dress fits a bit looser so I don’t have to worry about busting out of it after eating a huge holiday meal!

But, of course, just this dress would not be warm enough for a late November holiday so I had to enlist the help of some tights to cover my legs. And, cold or not, my legs are pretty hairy so the tights needed to happen, anyways. At first, I was going to just wear some sheer black tights but, I found this charcoal sweater pair in my closet and decided to give them a go. I was a little worried that it would be too much grey, but the heather grey of the dress looked lovely against the charcoal and the two differing sweater textures was also a nice, cozy touch. The sweet blue doves on my heels also paired well with the palette, too, so (For once!) I didn’t choose black and went with All Grey Everything.

To top this look off, literally, I decided to go with one of my favorites: My purple, orange, and navy plaid topper coat from Target. Because everything else was neutral in my OOTD, I could go color crazy and still look put together. The deep, burnt colors in this coat just scream festive fall holiday to me and I loved how it popped against the stark white and soft grey underneath. My topper coat felt like a really necessary part of this overall look, because the dress and tights were so comfortable. It took my OOTD from Thanksgiving Lounge to Thanksgiving Get Down and I absolutely love the end results!

When styling for a cold weather holiday event, it’s important that you dress for the weather without wearing a full blown snowsuit! Knitwear is a great place to start – sweaters, cardigans, cableknit dresses, and thick tights will all keep you nice and warm without breaking out the puffer coats. And, to complete your look, always top it off with a cool coat or jacket to add some pizazz to your comfortably cute OOTD.

New Almost Famous Skort

New Almost Famous Skort

Yo! As we all know, Lil Red has been on PANTS PATROL and I am honestly so happy about it. There’s a few things that I hate shopping for and they go as follows: Bikinis, bras, and PANTS, PANTS, PANTS. Pants are a pain in the ass to shop for and they always have been. Your girl suffers from the figure skater booty and thighs but a tiny waist, which makes getting a pair of pantelones that actually fit well really difficult. The same goes for shorts. Literally anything that you can wear on your bottom half that you have to put both legs through. Lol, so that’s why I was thrilled to snag this adorable Almost Famous skort seen below:

Hopelessly out of season, I know. But, I just couldn’t help buying this cute as a button skort on TJMaxx’s website. I only own one other pair of shorts, so this actually was a really necessary purchase for when summer rolls around. I thought that this little number would make a really sweet addition to my summer wardrobe, because they are so different than your basic booty shorts, which will definitely add that Lil Red flare to any outfit, even if it’s just paired with a T-shirt or crop top.

Of course, I’m looking forward to wearing this in the summer but, I also plan on incorporating it into my spring wardrobe with some sweater tights underneath. The material of my new skort is nice and thick so it will do just fine. Then, I will pair it with a blazer on top and some cute little booties for a cool look for work or play. Love it!

New Free People Pinstripe Pants

New Free People Pinstripe Pants

Hello! I will tell you what, I have been on PANTS PATROL lately, because all of my black skinnies are fading into grey and I just won’t stand for it. Luckily, TJMaxx has got my back with all of the best fashions and I’ve been able to restock the bottoms department in my wardrobe so I won’t have to run around in my SKIVVIES! Although these new Free People pants seen below are navy instead of my beloved black, I still like them just the same. Take a look at some pics and let’s discuss:

TJMaxx began carrying Free People shoes and clothing within the past year or so and my quality of life has increased tenfold since this happened. As you can see from the price above, their clothing is nowhere even close to my budget, so I just admire them from afar. But, a new pair of SLACKS for twenty bucks was a deal that I couldn’t pass up on so here we are now chatting about them!

I have been on the prowl for a paper bag style of pants like these for a while now. And, the nice thing about my Free People pair, is that they are made from a cloth material instead of that weird filmy kind that the paper bag style uses. That material does no favors for my body type and I wouldn’t want it close to my skin, anyways! I also like that the fit of my pinstripe pants isn’t high waisted like the paper bag style traditionally is. These are a normal rise pant with a baggy fit and a dipped crotch so they are obviously crazy comfortable but, they still manage to look chic, which is important.

I’m looking forward to pairing my new pantalones with a plain white T-shirt and my black Urban Outfitters boyfriend blazer for a cool and relaxed look. I then plan on dressing up the outfit with a long in length gold necklace and rings for a pop of bling. And, to finish it off, a nice pair of heels will do for a look that is perfect for a day at work or a night out for drinks with the girls.

Hi everyone! Yesterday, I got to show off my freebie haul from Sephora and, I’ve got to say, I’m still basking in the glory of that purchase. Money well spent, amiright?! The product that we are swatching today was compliments of my five hundred point Beauty Insider gift – a goodie box of Clinique products. At first, I was pretty ambivalent about their chubby stick balm in Woppin’ Watermelon. But, after swatching it and putting it on before I showered it off for good measure, I’m a fan. Check it out:

When I first inspected this balm out of its package, I wondered why the heck whomever was in charge picked that truly watermelon pink color. Surely they know that that shade doesn’t look good on everyone (Especially me!), right? Lil Red never rocks pink lips and, mind you, it’s not because I don’t want to – it’s because pink lipstick looks like ass on me. Truth. So, I figured that I would just give this balm to my sister, because pink suits her really well.

I had every intention of giving this to Kristen, until I swatched it for this post, that is. Because, upon swatching, I realized that the chubby stick left very little of that shocking pink pigment on. Rather, it was more like a gloss with the tiniest hint of pink to it. After seeing that on my hand, I was interested to see what it would look like on my lips and, I’ll be damned, because it actually looked alright on me!

Woppin’ Watermelon left my lips with a slightly more pink color and a glossy shine that looked very sweet and simple. It might not necessarily be the best shade for winter, but it will be darling in the spring and summer time. I liked how moisturized the balm left my lips feeling, too, even if it was only on for a handful of minutes! Lil Red never thinks pink, but, I guess it’s okay just this once. 😉

Five Below Find

Howdy! Something that I’ve grown very fond of as of late are discount stores. Dollar Tree, Dollar General, Five Below – you name it, and I like it. Ballin on a budget is my lifestyle choice and these stores live by my motto of “why pay more if you don’t have to”. From office supplies and snacks to holiday decor for a dollar, sometimes I feel like I’ve hit the jackpot when I stop into a discount shop. Just the other day at Five Below, for example, I walked away with this darling hair bow for three bucks and I’m sure it would have costed at least ten at Claire’s! Take a look:

This beautiful black bow with the long streamers ties in perfectly with my sweet goth aesthetic and I cannot wait to wear it. My hair definitely needs to grow out a bit more and, once it does, I will be pairing it with half up and messy bun styles ASAFP. The beauty of discount stores is that no one needs to know the price that you paid for a good find. For three bucks, I found a new accessory that would have costed me triple the price elsewhere and you just can’t beat that!

Hellooo! One piece of clothing that I have admired from afar but have never found just the right one of is the jumpsuit. With a petite 5’1 frame, it’s damn near impossible to find one that isn’t made for a six foot tall model and I always end up swallowed in fabric. When it comes to my body type, form fitting is key. Which is why my new Fervour brand jumpsuit works just right. Check it out:

Aside from the fit of this jumpsuit, which we will talk about momentarily, we must discuss the amazing embroidery! As a lover of the morbid, this rib cage with a sweet red heart is right up my alley. It’s goth and edgy but still manages to look adorable. Hearts make everything cute BUT, it also has POCKETS, which takes it that extra step further into absolutely darling.

As you can see above, the bottom half of this jumpsuit more or less fits like leggings, and they hit perfectly at my ankle. It also has a dipped crotch, which sounds weird, but is comfortable as all living hell. The cute as a buttons on the racer back top make it easy to get the jumpsuit on and off once you undo them, too.

All of the details on this little number make for a purchase that was well worth it, even though it was a bit more expensive than I’m used to paying. But, that’s just what happens sometimes when you really want a jumpsuit in your wardrobe! Easy styling of this Fervour piece also made it desirable. Because your entire outfit is already laid out for you when you’re wearing a jumpsuit, all you need do is throw on a cool pair of sneaks or heels and a moto jacket and hit the road for some spooky fun!

Yooooo. The next item in my ModCloth Haul was one that I got on sale and am very happy with! I scored a heart balloon kit that was originally twenty dollars for seven bucks, which I thought was a steal. These darling balloons will be perfect for a Valentine’s Day photo shoot on lifewithlilred and I am totally okay with having them on backstock until then, as opposed to paying a more expensive price once V-Day rolls around.   • Three different colors of streamers (White, pink, and red)

Like I said, seven dollars for all of that seemed like such a bargain! I absolutely love cute balloon related photo shoots and, I suppose that I could use these at any time, but it doesn’t get much sweeter than a bouquet of pink heart balloons on Valentine’s Day. This purchase made me feel proud, because planning an article that is four months away means that lifewithlilred will still be alive and kicking until then. I consider each day of writing for my page a success and, although the photo shoot is a ways away, it’s one less thing that I have to worry about. And that, my friends, is the power of planning ahead!
