Holiday Gathering OOTD

Holiday Gathering OOTD

Hi! With the holiday season in full swing now, it’s important to be able to put together a lovely OOTD for any get togethers that you might be attending. The outfit in this post is actually what I wore for Thanksgiving, and it has given me a good template to follow for a look that’s classy but still fun around your family, friends, or total strangers! Take a look at some pics and let’s discuss:

Who? What? Wear?

When thinking about what I wanted to wear on Thanksgiving day, my BCBG layered sweater dress seemed like an obvious choice. It’s so cute and comfortable while still looking really chic, and that is a must because Lil Red always tries to show out at family events! Plus, this dress fits a bit looser so I don’t have to worry about busting out of it after eating a huge holiday meal!

But, of course, just this dress would not be warm enough for a late November holiday so I had to enlist the help of some tights to cover my legs. And, cold or not, my legs are pretty hairy so the tights needed to happen, anyways. At first, I was going to just wear some sheer black tights but, I found this charcoal sweater pair in my closet and decided to give them a go. I was a little worried that it would be too much grey, but the heather grey of the dress looked lovely against the charcoal and the two differing sweater textures was also a nice, cozy touch. The sweet blue doves on my heels also paired well with the palette, too, so (For once!) I didn’t choose black and went with All Grey Everything.

To top this look off, literally, I decided to go with one of my favorites: My purple, orange, and navy plaid topper coat from Target. Because everything else was neutral in my OOTD, I could go color crazy and still look put together. The deep, burnt colors in this coat just scream festive fall holiday to me and I loved how it popped against the stark white and soft grey underneath. My topper coat felt like a really necessary part of this overall look, because the dress and tights were so comfortable. It took my OOTD from Thanksgiving Lounge to Thanksgiving Get Down and I absolutely love the end results!

When styling for a cold weather holiday event, it’s important that you dress for the weather without wearing a full blown snowsuit! Knitwear is a great place to start – sweaters, cardigans, cableknit dresses, and thick tights will all keep you nice and warm without breaking out the puffer coats. And, to complete your look, always top it off with a cool coat or jacket to add some pizazz to your comfortably cute OOTD.

How do you style a look for holiday gatherings? How do you stay warm while still looking chic? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

Dress Obsessed: BCBG Pt. 2 Edition

Hi everyone and happy Hump Day! Welcome to the second part of Dress Obsessed with another lovely number by BCBG. This piece is quite a bit different in color palette than the one from yesterday, but the shape and style remain really similar. In true Sarah fashion, since I liked the overall look of the dress, I had to get it in multiple colors! Take a look and let’s discuss:

bcbg5bcbg6bcbg8

(TJMaxx Price: $40)

What I love about this dress is the incorporation of the color white, because I’ve really been trying to work that color into my wardrobe. There is something so pleasing to me about a crisp, white piece of clothing and, I hate to brag, but it looks great on me, to boot! The white turtleneck looks so sweet underneath the pebble grey jumper and is a stark contrast to my dress from yesterday, although the shape is still the same.

I love how cozy this dress feels, because the turtleneck is nice and thin, but the grey portion is made from a more sweater-like material. This will be perfect with a thick pair of tights and a scarf around the neck to accessorize during a warmer fall day. My new BCBG dress reminds me of an old school cheerleading uniform and I really freaking dig it. The more forgiving material adds some flounce to it, which will be perfect for an on the go day of work or play.

How would you style this dress? How would you style a perfect fall outfit? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

Dress Obsessed: BCBG Edition

Hellooo everyone and a happy Tuesday to all of you! I would never call myself a “label whore” by any means. I’m happy as a clam in any brand, as long as the price is right and it looks cute. But, that doesn’t mean that there aren’t more high end brands that I admire from afar. One of them being, BCBG. What I love the most about that brand is that they do sexy clothing in a way that’s still really tasteful and chic. The silhouettes in BCBG’s clothing are always form fitting but it’s done in the way that it should be: it shows your body’s shape without the garment clinging to you for dear life!

I was lucky enough to snag two BCBG dresses from TJMaxx for forty dollars apiece, which is still cheaper than the original price of eighty-eight dollars per dress. Take a look at the little number we’ll be discussing today and swing by tomorrow to look at my other new favorite dress:

Before we even talk about how gorgeous this dress is, I really need to commend BCBG’s sizing. It can definitely be intimidating when you order things online, because you always have to factor in the “what if it doesn’t fit” element. That’s why, I’m pleased to say that this dress fit me like a glove.

I looked up BCBG’s sizing chart before ordering and went with a size small, which is for sizes four to six. I am a true blue size four and that really is what I got with my new purchase. It fit me beautifully without being overly tight or clingy. It showed my shape without showing it in its entirety through a modest knee length and long sleeves. Like I said earlier, it’s sexy done right.

Now, we can talk about the simply charming nod to 70’s flower power in the long sleeves and the netted black carving a gorgeous shape throughout the fabric. From the color combinations and pattern to the varying degrees of texture, this dress is interesting to look at both on and off the hanger! I feel like I’ve never seen anything that looks like it before, and I’ll definitely be scouring the TJ’s website monthly for more BCBG gems like the dresses from today and tomorrow’s post.

My new BCBG dress really doesn’t need accessorizing, because it’s a fairly busy piece. But, I do plan on pairing it with my pearls and wooden Steve Madden heels for a sexy but still sweet OOTD.

What are some brand names that you admire from afar? How would you style this dress? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

New Target Dress

New Target Dress

Hiii everyone and happy Tuesday! This past weekend I did a little shopping to beat the winter blahs of January away and I ended up with a super cute new dress from Target. As I entered the store, I was so happy to see that they had their spring clothing on display. The winter weather in Ohio has been unusually, freakishly mild this year – we’re talking weather in the 50s and 60s. So, needless to say, I have definitely been thinking spring! I am a bit sad that I haven’t gotten to make use out of all of my gorgeous cold weather clothing but I can’t complain about this warm streak of weather when Ohio winters are usually bitter cold.

Not only did the spring style temps inspire me to buy myself something pretty but I also got my new dress to spice up my work wardrobe. I have grown weary of wearing the same pants and a blazer during the days when I’m bopping around visiting different day programs and group homes so I thought some fun new dresses would be a perfect way to go. For work, I always enjoy pairing up a dress with some tall riding boots and tights to create a look that is posh and profesh rather than too revealing. Take a look at my newest work and play wardrobe addition:

What I love the most about this dress is the shape and, of course, the color! Mustard yellow is one of those colors that happens to look really good on me thanks to the pasty pale skin and red hair so whenever I see something cute in this color, I always have to try it on! I love the base color of this dress but I also think that the periwinkle blue, cream, and pink floral pattern looks gorgeous over top of it. This dress reminds me a bit of my all time favorite dress from Urban Outfitters but I think that it is so darling that I don’t even care!

The other fantastic thing about my new dress is the shape. It looks like a seriously seventies style frock and I think that it’s just perfect. The buttons down the front add some edge while the fluttering, flowy sleeves add a sweet touch of 1970s glam. I can’t wait to pair this dress with my tan knee high riding boots for work and then ditching the boots for my pair of BCBGeneration cut out heels for play as seen below:

If you have spring on your mind and are getting winter cabin fever, then you better head to Target and get your shop on. Their spring collection is filled with pretty frocks, kimono tops, and a whole lot of girly fun!

How do you rock a business casual work outfit? What clothing items are you most looking forward to wearing when the warm weather finally hits? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

TJ’s Trip

TJ’s Trip

Hi everyone and happy Tuesday! As you guys know, I freaking LOVE TJMaxx. I live for all of the fabulous but affordable finds there and always enjoy a TJ’s shopping trip even if I leave empty handed. My mom and I go to TJ’s once or twice a month to see what’s new and we had one of our excursions this past weekend. We left with a scarf for both of us, a new toy for both of our dogs, and a little “Ollie sized” food dish for our most recently adopted pup. I’m seriously so in love with my BCBGeneration scarf that I can’t even handle it so take a look at the darling new addition to my wardrobe:

^^^ So cute!

Usually when my mom and I shop at TJ’s, we breeze by their selection of scarves because we don’t wear them often. However, my mom said that she would like a new and lighter one for spring so we took our time and thumbed through the many scarves that TJ’s had on display. I found my mom a lovely black, grey, and white striped scarf that looked so adorable on her so we decided to go with that one and continue scouring the store.

As we were walking away to go check out the shoes, I took one last survey of the scarves and found the only Popsicle print square scarf that was hanging up. I was instantly enamored by the whimsical pattern, creamy colors, and vintage feel of the silky BCBGeneration scarf. I knew right away that I wanted it. The scarf was the perfect amount of cute and quirky that I love and it was at just the right price of eight bucks. How can you say no to that?!

As soon as I saw the scarf, I began thinking of all of the different ways that I could wear it this spring and summer. Tied in a bow around my neck, Parisian style, as a turban, as a hair wrap, casually flung over my shoulders – the possibilities were endless! I love pieces that are versatile and can be worn during all or most seasons. This sweet little square scarf passed that requirement with flying colors!

The best part about this scarf is the pure luxury of it for such an amazing price. The rich cream, mauve, and baby blue palette just screams vintage chic and the silky material feels so fabulous to the touch. I adore the BCBGeneration brand, too, so the fact that my scarf came from their collection was another added bonus. I’m so excited to sport my quirky and sweet new scarf this season and I’m so beyond happy with my latest TJMaxx find!

My mom and I’s latest TJ’s Trip was an obvious success and I live for our monthly shopping excursions together! What is your favorite way to wear a scarf? What was the latest purchase you made while out shopping? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

Holla atcha girl!! Here’s a break down of what I was wearing in these pictures:

  • Polka dot blouse: Aerie
  • Faux suede skirt: H&M
  • Heels: TJMaxx, BCBGeneration

I absolutely adore this sassy spring outfit! My H&M skirt is one of my newest purchases and I was so excited to break it out today. It matches perfectly with the golden polka dots in my navy blue blouse and the tan heels tie the look together to perfection. I can’t wait to wear this outfit to class because I feel like it’s such a smart and chic look. It’s a fairly preppy outfit, but the faux suede of the skirt and my chunky heels definitely give an edgy twist that I always try to incorporate in all of my looks. If you’re a fan of the skirt, it should be available in stores and online at http://www.hm.com! AND if you sign up for their weekly newsletter you get a twenty percent off of one item coupon! You’re welcome! 🙂

The Easter fun continued into the evening when I went over to my sweet best friend Lea’s house to color Easter eggs. It’s one of our favorite best friend traditions and we always have an absolute blast! Here we are looking fierce:

easter

Our eggs turned out fabulous and vibrant and I had such a lovely time hanging out with her and her family! And FYI, twenty years old is not too old to color Easter eggs! 😉

I hope all of you have a wonderful time celebrating Easter tomorrow if that’s your thing or just hanging out and having a normal day! Don’t miss me too much tomorrow and make sure you check back in with me on Monday for the usual Monday Update segment! What are some of your favorite Easter traditions? If you dyed eggs, how did yours turn out? And if you got super creative with your eggs…how did you do it?!! Lol, Lea and I could barely handle a different color on the top and bottom of ours!! I’d love to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Have a great rest of your weekend. -Sarah

PS: Special thanks to my gorgeous mama for taking my pictures today! Love you! ❤ Even though you were just aimlessly “pressing buttons” the whole time! 😉

OOTD – Trench Coat Time

Hello one and all and happy Sunday!!! Today I’m sporting one of my all time favorite “classy girl” outfits that I just had to share with you guys. So take a look at my appropriately titled “Trench Coat Time” OOTD!

IMG_1251[1]

As usual, here’s a break down of the brand of each item in this outfit and where it was purchased from:

  • Trench coat: Jack, PacSun
  • Floral dress: LA Hearts, PacSun
  • Heels: BCBGeneration, TJMaxx ❤
  • Forest green floppy hat: Gypsy Warrior, PacSun
  • Black floppy hat: Brandy Melville, PacSun

STORY TIME: Once upon a time when I was around the tender age of fifteen, I developed a deep love for reading fashion magazines. Vogue, Elle, In Style, W, I read it all and loved each of them equally. After I was through reading the pages upon pages of style tips and high lights of fashion shows, I would take it upon myself to tear out the pictures of the fashion spreads that I so loved to look at and tape them onto my bedroom walls. I’m sure if you’ve been following lifewithlilred you have noticed all of the pictures adorning my walls when I post pictures of my room. Anyways, one day I was thumbing through a spread in Elle, if I remember correctly and I came across the most miraculous fashion story I’ve ever seen. The spread was called “The Allure of The Trench.” I remember thinking to myself that I’ve never seen anything more beautiful in my life. The model being photographed looked so damn chic. She looked classic, sophisticated, and drop dead gorgeous. I wanted to look like that. So about a month later, I was shopping with my mom in PacSun, and I saw it. The most perfect trench coat that I’ve ever seen. I tried it on and instantly felt like a sharp and well dressed young woman. The coat was about eighty dollars and my mom wasn’t thrilled with the price. I begged her to buy it for me, and she finally caved. And the rest is history, as they say. Five years later and my trench coat is still one of my most beloved articles of clothing to this day. Here’s a picture that I have hanging in my room from the life changing “Allure of The Trench” spread:

IMG_1250[1]

Gorgeous. ^^^^ ANYWAYS, what I so love about the outfit that I pieced together is that I feel so insanely good in it. I feel the perfect combination of sophisticated, classy, sassy, sexy, and insanely confident. I love the come hither vibe of a bare leg strutting about beneath an almost knee length coat and dress. It’s the chicest kind of provocative I can think of, without being trashy in the least possible way. I adore my BCBGeneration heels so much as well. These little beauties were such a fantastic TJ’s find, and I really like the way that the chestnut coloring of them pop against the light tan trench…bringing even more attention to my leggies that look a mile long with them on!! 😉 Honestly the look could be over right there without one of my floppy hats, but Lil Red loves her floppy hats so they were a must. I usually alternate between wearing my black and forest green one but I’ve been growing very fond of the Gypsy Warrior green one as of late. I love the way that the color pops against my pasty pale skin, bright red hair, and hazel eyes. In fact, when I wear this hat, my eyes usually have the tendency to turn green to match it, which is fun! I always bring up in my OOTD blogs that the most important thing about a look is that it makes you feel confident – and this outfit does that for me. I feel like a super woman twenty something on the go and it doesn’t get much better than that!

Does anyone else have a deep love for trench coats as I do? What was the first fashion magazine that you read? Was there a spread that inspired you as “The Allure of the Trench” did for me? I’d love to hear all about it, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Have a fantastic super wonderful Sunday! -Sarah

  • Maxi skirt: Brandy Melville, PacSun
  • Killin the game crop top: Young Romantics, PacSun
  • Tan heels: BCBGeneration, TJMaxx

I’ve worn this outfit before when I was working at PacSun, and got so many compliments on this look! I’m very excited to see the reaction to this outfit from the people at Next! I like this look because it’s so chic. Some people find black boring and mundane. Other people think that wearing black will make you blend in to the crowd. Well I’m here to tell you that when worn correctly an all black everything outfit with a pop of color might be the best fashion statement you ever make. I feel cool in this outfit. That’s such a lame thing to say, but it’s true. I feel like the perfect amount of punk, goth girl, and fashionista diva when I have this outfit on. The black on black look makes me feel like a million bucks while only spending about eighty dollars. This look gives me confidence – and that’s the most important accessory when rocking your OOTD, after all!

What is everyone rockin today? What are your big Friday plans? Leave me a comment and let’s chat! -Sarah
