Sephora Birthday Gift

Sephora Birthday Gift

Howdy! When it comes to my birthday, I always try to cash in on the freebies that are offered through rewards programs at my favorite stores and eateries. As a Beauty Insider for Sephora, that means I get to pick a freebie birthday gift between two mini gift sets. This year, the choice was between a Kat Von D liquid liner, loose powder, and lipstick samples or a cleanser and moisturizer by Drunk Elephant. Because I don’t use liquid liner or any type of powder, I went with the Drunk Elephant option seen below:

sephoraasephoraa1sephoraa2

I have never used any Drunk Elephant products before, but I’ve heard nothing but good things about it so I am looking forward to giving my freebies a try. I can always use moisturizers and cleansers, too, so even if these don’t last me very long it will be a few days of using something that I didn’t actually buy. And, for a frugal gal like me, this is always a plus! Although I wasn’t too thrilled with the birthday gift choices from Sephora this year, free is free, and maybe I will have found a new favorite brand!

What did you choose for your Sephora birthday gift? Have you ever used the Drunk Elephant brand before? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

Bath Bomb Blitz: Unknown From Lush Edition

Bath Bomb Blitz: Unknown From Lush Edition

Howdy! I have made many wonderful friends thanks to lifewithlilred but there’s one lovely lady who holds a very special place in my heart and that’s Kate from Live In The Nautical. A fiery, intelligent beauty with a passion for travel and style, Kate is literally the coolest and it has been such a joy to be her friend. No matter if we talk every day or if it’s been a month, we always seem to pick up right where we left off, which I think is a major testament to our friendship.

Everything about Kate is amazing but her thoughtfulness is what I love the most about her. It always seems like she just knows when I need a little pick me up. For example, when I was in absolute agony from my surgery in December, I receive a Christmas present from her in the mail. And, recently, when we were very close to putting our dog down, a birthday prezzie from my Gemini Twin shows up. Talk about blogging BFF telepathy!

Kate knows that goodies from Lush are the way to my heart and I always feel so spoiled when I get to enjoy a bath bomb from there because I don’t use their products often at all. Recently, I used the little number seen below who’s name I am not sure of because it wasn’t on the website. So, we’ll just go with “Unknown” for now, lol. Check it out:

lush1lush2lush3lush4lush5lush6

Aside from my bath tub at my apartment having a mind of its own and draining whenever it feels like, Unknown was a very pleasant bath bomb experience. It didn’t have much of a smell but it put on a jolly good show of shamrock green and white spirals. It also took a long time to fizz out – at least five minutes, which is always a plus.

When Unknown first started fizzing, I thought it was going to be a jelly bomb because of the thicker green bubble stuff happening. But, that wasn’t the case, which was a little disappointing because I do love me a good jelly bomb. Despite that, I still felt insanely hydrated upon exiting the tub once I finished shaving and I think that’s my favorite part. I always put lotion on post shave but I probably don’t even need to when using the ultra moisturizing Lush bath bombs!

Overall, I’d rate Unknown with a five out of ten. It wasn’t my favorite but it certainly wasn’t the worst, either, and I wouldn’t be mad about using it again.

What is your favorite Lush product? Who is your blogging BFF? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

TJMaxx Beauty Haul

TJMaxx Beauty Haul

Hiii! When I need a reup on my beauty and skin care supplies, I hit up TJMaxx, rinse, and repeat. Their beauty aisle is chock full of good stuff where I have discovered my favorites from The Body Shop as well as trying out new brands that I usually end up loving. Thanks to rewards points from the TJMaxx/Homegoods/Marshall’s credit card, I had twenty bucks to spend to stock up and got all of the following products FO FREE. Check it out:

The Haul:

I was super happy with the haul seen above because I got products that I needed, like a new charcoal bar and scrub. But, I also got to add to my supplies when it comes to serum and moisturizer so it was a very successful shopping trip overall. What I am most excited about, though, is the Azure Lux Rose Gold serum, which I love so very very much. After using this wonder serum up in February, I vowed to purchase it again if I ever came across it. So, I was thrilled to make good on my word because that serum really is the best and leaves your skin simply glowing.

I am looking forward to trying out my new scrub come my next shaving sesh, because the Lavender Coconut scent is divine and I have also never tried a coffee scrub before! The value of this bottle was great, too, because it’s huge and I got it for a whole six bucks. And, in the beauty world, all I am hearing about is all Manuka honey everything so I’m definitely eager to give my new moisturizer a try after I finish up my current jar. Thank you, TJMaxx! 😀

Where do you get all of your beauty and skin care products at? How do you shop beauty on a budget? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

Summer Makeup: Application Tips For Extreme Heat

Summer Makeup: Application Tips For Extreme Heat

Hello everyone and welcome to a very special guest post from my friend, Kiki, over at From Vanity To Sanity. Today, Kiki is going to share with us some makeup tips for the hot hot heat, which she knows all about as she lives in Cyprus. But, we can certainly all benefit from it with summer weather officially upon us! And, when you’re done, please make sure to give Kiki’s page some love – I’m sure you’ll all adore it as much as I do. Enjoy!

Summer Makeup: Application Tips For Extreme Heat

Ever since returning to my country, Cyprus, from rainy Manchester in the UK in the peak of summer (end of July) in 2017, I’ve been thinking of writing a blog post about the difficulties of applying makeup in hot weather as this is a daily struggle for me. I never had such issues when I lived in the UK or even when I lived in Greece.

For those not familiar with Cyprus, the small European country in the middle of the Mediterranean Sea, summers here are hot and humid with temperatures rising well above 44 degrees Celsius usually in July and August. But, with climate change, recent years are seeing a bigger and bigger extension of these heatwaves in Cyprus with summer weather lasting from the beginning of May to the end of October. Just this year we had a 42+ degrees Celsius day in May! I don’t even dare think what the rest of the summer will be like.

So, when Sarah of lifewithlilred gave a shout out for a collaboration with anyone wanting to write about a summer topic as a guest on her blog, I thought this is it, I HAVE to finally write this post because who likes dripping makeup, right?

makeup1

Wearing makeup for me is very important. Unless I’m going swimming (And, even when I go to the beach, I usually put on an under-eye concealer and tinted sunscreen for minimum coverage.) I like to look good wherever I go. No longer a spring chicken, this unfortunately for me means not just wearing a nice lipstick to brighten up my face. (Oh! To be young again, able to get away with bare skin and just a bright colored lipstick!). I now need the full works: foundation, concealer, mascara, lipstick, and blusher. But, if you’re a makeup addict like me, then you know those products make the bare minimum of a made-up look.

“But heat and humidity are makeup’s enemies. So, what are makeup’s friends in hot weather then? In my case, it’s tissues, sunscreen, face powder, setting spray, blotting paper, and the coolness from a powerful air-conditioner. Without them, applying makeup in extreme hot weather would just be impossible”

First things first, to be able to even start the process of applying makeup in a hot and humid environment, I personally need to be in a cool place. So, I make sure to have the aircon on full blast before I sit in front of my vanity mirror. Then, I dry my face to avoid any wetness from the humid climate using tissue paper and I’m set to go with the following products in step order:

  • Under-eye concealer: As I’ve always had dark circles under my eyes this is an absolute must for me and it’s always my first step.
  • Sunscreen: If I’m not going for a heavy made-up look, I’ll use a 50+ SPF tinted one and skip the foundation. Two good tinted options of mine are LA ROCHE-POSAY’s ANTHELIOS XL and SUN SENSE. I make sure to cover my face well with the sunscreen, especially the bridge of my nose and cheeks which are my features that get the most sun exposure and are prone to sun damage.
  • Foundation: If I’m going for full coverage, then I’ll use a non-tinted sunscreen in the previous step followed by a good foundation. An all-time favorite of mine is the Estee Lauder Double Wear foundation but I recently discovered a good alternative from SHISEIDO, the UV Protective Stick Foundation with 30 SPF. As it’s in stick form it’s very easy to apply and doesn’t need particular blending.
  • Powder: Preferably in loose form, face powder is essential in setting the creamy products applied to the face before potentially adding any others such as blusher, eyeshadow, brow liner, mascara, and lipstick.
  • Setting spray: This is the last step in ensuring the look stays intact. By spraying the face from a distance of about 25 cms you help everything stay put and not melt away when the temperature rises.
  • Blotting paper: Essential to blot out sweat throughout the day and/or night, this product is handy to be kept in your handbag to avoid looking oily when the temperature and, more importantly, the humidity levels rise.

Today, following the above steps but also adding mascara, bronzer, and lip-gloss I created this everyday, natural look (the frizzy stray hairs are testament to the humidity):

Here’s a snapshot of the products I used:

I’d be interested to hear of any other tips for applying and maintaining makeup in extremely hot weather as, frankly, I am finding it a challenge!

Thank you so much again to Kiki for treating us to a guest post here on lifewithlilred! What are your summer time makeup tips? How do you stay cool in the warm weather? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

New Black & Emerald Nails

New Black & Emerald Nails

Helloooooooo! Last weekend, I spend a wonderful Saturday morning getting pampered at Elysian Nails for a much needed fill and cut down. My work week was long and stressful so it was so nice to sink into a chair and relax for an hour and a half while my talons got loved on. And, I know I said that I was going to stray away from black nails, but I just couldn’t help resorting back to Old Faithful this time around. Take a look:

nailss

While looking through Elysian Nails’ extensive polish collection, the emerald glitter and black combination just spoke to me. It screamed Slytherin from Harry Potter and I was feeling like a badass and couldn’t say no! The daggers also needed shortened as they were getting much too long, even for me, and the lovely young lady named Mary who pampered me did a bang up job.

When it comes to getting my nails done, I could go either way when it comes to chatting with the nail tech. But, Mary was so bubbly and delightful that it was impossible to not chit chat with her for most of the time. She also worked right next to her sister and their little sibling rivalry and quips was so adorable! It made for an insanely pleasant morning and it left me feeling so much better after a difficult week. 🙂

What color of nail polish do you have on? Do you chat or keep it quiet with your nail tech? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

Face Mask Festivities: SpaLife Brightening Sheet Mask Edition

Face Mask Festivities: SpaLife Brightening Sheet Mask Edition

Hiii everyone! While in the shower the other day, I remembered that a friend of mine gave me a Target gift card when I was moving into my apartment. I was so happy that I remembered this but was also SO annoyed because I had been to Target at least three times since moving. Smh.

But, it’s better late than never for using the gift card so I made a Target run and purchased a few essentials as well as a sheet face mask to push me slightly above the gift card limit. I have never used a sheet mask before so I thought that I would give it a try as a little treat to myself. I went with a brightening mask made with papaya by SpaLife and it was about three dollars per mask. I can’t say that it was my favorite face mask experience but I didn’t hate it. Take a look at some pics and let’s discuss:

fmffmf1fmf2fmf3

^^^ Hahaha, ahhhh that picture kills me! 😀

Because my skin type is as normal as it gets, I always go for masks that are either brightening or hydrating. And, with summer coming in hot, I thought that my skin could use some brightening for a more radiant appearance in the bright sun. I have also been really tired lately so my skin has been looking and feeling pretty lackluster. Needless to say, a brightening mask was just what the doctor ordered.

When I took the sheet mask out of the package, it was absolutely dripping with the papaya serum. I was a little surprised by this because the mask was inexpensive. I wasn’t expecting it to be bone dry but I also wasn’t expecting it to be jam packed with papaya goodness, either. This mask smelled really good, too. I caught a whiff of papaya as soon as I opened the packet and it lingered for the duration of having the mask on.

I left the mask on for about twelve minutes and then it fell off while I was in the shower. The mask wasn’t uncomfortable by any means but I didn’t like that you essentially just had to sit there with the mask on to avoid it falling off. This is why I prefer your standard face mask from a jar or tube so that you can continue going about your business until it’s time to wash it off.

Although the mask came off prematurely, I can say that I definitely saw some results from it. I had literally no expectations for this mask so maybe that’s why I was more keen to pick up on any differences in my skin. But, my under eye circles seemed less prevalent, my skin looked brighter, and it felt insanely smooth so I was very happy about all of that.

I can’t say that I would go out of my way to use a sheet mask again because I enjoy normal face masks so much but I’m glad that I tried it. And, if you haven’t tried one before, then you should go to Target and grab a SpaLife mask. It was inexpensive and an overall pleasant experience for what it was!

How do you feel about sheet masks? What is your favorite face mask to use? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

May 2019 Finishes

May 2019 Finishes

Hellooo! May is drawing to a close and June is coming in hot, which means that very soon I’ll be turning twenty-five. UGH! So with another month and another year in my book coming to an end, it’s about that time to discuss our finishes for May. This month, I actually completed a lot of products so we have much to discuss. Let’s get to it!

may

Would I Use Again?

  • Solmo Shea Butter & Oatmeal body wash: MAYBE
  • The Body Shop Pink Grapefruit shower gel: YES
  • Garnier Micellar Water: YES
  • The Body Shop Satsuma scrub: YES
  • The Body Shop Cocoa Butter lotion: NO
  • SkinLab Detox Cloud moisturizer: YES
  • The Body Shop Oils Of Life serum: YES

Why/Why Not?

Solmo Body Wash: I believe that my mom ordered this product off of Amazon and it was fine. It wasn’t the best body wash I’ve ever used but it wasn’t the worst. I have one more bottle left to use but I’d be a liar if I said I wasn’t looking forward to trying something else with a more invigorating scent. However, this Solmo wash leaves my skin feeling really moisturized and it lathers well. It took me one month to finish one bottle.

TBS Shower Gel: I love, love, loved the Pink Grapefruit shower gel by The Body Shop and it took me over two months to finish the bottle. The scent was citrusy and rejuvenating, it lathered well, and it didn’t dry my skin out even though it was a gel. I’m normally not the biggest fan of the Pink Grapefruit scent from TBS for lotion but it worked great for a shower gel and I would definitely use it again.

Garnier Micellar Water: You know the drill. I will continue using this product until I find something else. And, as per ushe, it takes me one month to finish one bottle.

TBS Scrub: And, also as per ushe, I would use the Satsuma scrub from The Body Shop again too! This is one of my favorite products from TBS. It smells amazing, gives me a close shave, and leaves my skin feeling bright and clean. And, as always, I get at least seven full body uses from one bottle.

TBS Lotion: Although the Cocoa Butter from The Body Shop is easily one of my favorite scents, I have a bone to pick with this lotion. The bottle was absolutely impossible to squeeze, making it so hard to get any product out. I had to leave the bottle upside down and then unscrew the cap to use it. But, then, the lotion would come pouring out giving me way too much and getting on everything. So, I definitely won’t be using this one again even though I liked the lotion. I got about six full body uses from one bottle.

SkinLab Moisturizer: I LOVED this moisturizer that I found at TJMaxx. It sat well under makeup, was inexpensive, lightweight, and it left my skin feeling so hydrated. A little bit of the cream went a long way and it took me over a month to finish the jar. Hoping that I can find another one on my next shopping trip!

TBS Serum: Like all of The Body Shop products on here, I got the Oils Of Life serum from TJMaxx, too. It takes me over two months to finish one bottle and I can really tell a difference on my skin when I’m using it. It looks and feels so much more supple and radiant and that’s cool, because I normally never notice any differences on my skin when using a product. Despite the oil being rich, it sits really well under makeup and I am so happy I bought two bottles so I can continue using it.

Overall, May was a great month for finishes. I got to use a lot of products from The Body Shop which was a treat and I would gladly use almost all of them again. Great success!

Which products did you finish up this month? What are your thoughts on any of the above products if you used them? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

Lil Red’s Presidential Medal Of Freedom: Too Faced Melted Matte In Queen B Edition

Helloooo! Have any of you ever had a beauty product that you were pretty excited about but just never bothered using? Lol, because that’s what definitely happened with the Sephora freebie I got of Too Faced’s Melted Matte lip paint. I got the shade in Queen B FO FREE with a twenty-five dollar online purchase and I thought that the deep mauve shade was pretty but it also is a color that I wouldn’t normally wear so it just sat unused in my makeup box until May 15th, 2019.

meltmelt1melt2melt3melt4melt5

On that fateful day, I was wearing a turquoise spaghetti strap top, denim shorts, black mini platforms, and a jean jacket. I thought that the above shade would look so good with the various blue hues that I had in my OOTD so I put some on, threw the tube of lippie in my bag, and headed out the door.

I was right, of course, because the lipstick looked divine. And, like anyone, I was expecting to have to reapply after working, eating lunch, and kissing my boyfriend. But… I didn’t? I was blown away! This lip paint literally didn’t budge. So, I continued on with my day which included eating Indian food and more kissing my boyfriend. AND IT STILL STAYED ON! It looked like I had just applied it and, at that point, I had had the color on for at least ten hours.

HOW DOES THAT EVEN HAPPEN?!
HOW IS THAT EVEN POSSIBLE?!
WHY HAS IT TAKEN ME ALMOST A YEAR TO USE THIS LIPPIE?!
TUNE IN NEXT WEEK ON I HAVE NO IDEA!

But, seriously though. How is that even possible? This is why I have to award the Too Faced Melted Matte lip paint with the Lil Red Presidential Medal Of Freedom. For withstanding Indian food, PDA, and a day on the job without so much as budging. I thank you for your commendable service and cannot recommend this product enough! 😀

What is your favorite product by Too Faced? Do you have any products that have been sitting unused in your stash? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

Lanoline Eye Serum: Do Not Use!

Lanoline Eye Serum: Do Not Use!

Hellooo everyone! I feel like all of you know by now that when I start using a beauty product, I stick to it and finish it off until the bitter end – even if I’m not crazy about it. But, for this particular eye serum by Lanoline that I have been using, I just had to put my foot down and stop using it. It is the literal WORST and it would behoove all of you to not even consider using it on the delicate skin around your eyes. Smdh.

eye

I purchased this serum from TJMaxx back in January but didn’t begin using it until mid March or so. I can recall using it for the first time and it stung so badly. However, I was in the midst of seasonal allergies at the time, so I credited that sensation to my itchy eyes. So, I continued using the serum and assumed that my eyes would feel better soon. But, once my allergies subsided, I was still experiencing such dryness after each use with the serum that I would have to take my one a day contacts out and swap them for a new pair.

Although this serum was giving me grief, I tried to continue using it like an idiot. But, once I realized how low I was running on my contacts supply that should last me six months, I gave up that ghost. There was nothing soothing about this serum, despite what its packaging says, and it left my eye area stinging and feeling tight all day.

I am currently using an eye cream by Mokita now and could notice a difference in how my eyes felt after just one use. After this disappointing run with the Lanoline serum, I would never use any of their products again and, at the very least, I would tell all of you to not buy this serum even if it was the last one on earth!

What is a beauty product that you would never recommend? What type of eye serum or cream do you use? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

New Red & Orange Nails

Hi! I had a lovely morning of pampering earlier in the week. It was so nice! I got my hair cut first and then I headed off to Elysian Nails to get a much needed fill. I had the cutest nail tech named Kim fix up the talons and she was an absolute doll. AND she did an amazing job so I can’t wait to go back to her next month. Check out these fiery beauties she fixed up perfect for summer time:

nails

These nails are an absolute fiesta and I am so obsessed! After doing a sweet pink and gold for spring, I needed something with a pop and the only answer was a bright red to go with the promises of eighty degree weather in Ohio. These nails make me feel so saucy and they look really fun and sunny. Now all I need is a beach and a Margarita to go with these babies and I’m all set!

What color of polish do you have on? What are your favorite colors to sport in the summer? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah
