Gift Ideas For Warm Weather Birthdays

Gift Ideas For Warm Weather Birthdays

Hi! In my family, there are eight spring and summer birthdays that I have to shop for so I am never lacking in gift ideas for warm weather birthdays. Shopping for birthdays that take place when the weather is nice is a great opportunity to purchase outdoor activity based gifts. Activity gifts always go over well but will be an even bigger hit this year since we are all itching to get outside and enjoy the weather. Let’s go over some of my favorite ideas:

Gardening Supplies/Outdoor Decor:

Spring and summer are, of course, the prime gardening times so if your giftee has a green thumb, then you can’t go wrong with gardening supplies. From raised planters and pots to seeds, tools, and insect hotels – any garden improvement supplies are sure to be appreciated. You could even offer your help weekly to tend to the garden since that is an activity that can be achieved from a social distance.

If your giftee is not so gifted in the garden, outdoor decor can really help enhance their space. Bird baths, houses, and feeders, wind chimes, decorative solar lights, and benches are all great places to start. Setting up a bird feeding station in your giftee’s backyard will allow them to enjoy nature without having to get their hands dirty.

Outdoor Games:

At this point, I’m sure everyone is bored of board games so anything that can be played outside is sure to please. Bocce ball, cornhole, croquet, and horseshoes can all be played from a social distance. There are even huge outdoor versions of classic games like checkers, chess, Connect 4, and Jenga. Outdoor games are such fun and can be used year after year so they are perfect for friends who love to entertain when the weather permits.

Summertime Treats:

What is the warm weather without popsicles, smoothies, snow cones, and ice cream? Nothing, I tell you! All of the treats that I just mentioned to help cool you down on a hot day can be made from home so you could gift the appliance or supplies needed to make them. Don’t forget a recipe book so they have plenty of ideas to work with and your gift doesn’t become just a one time use item. Perfect for the person on your list with a sweet tooth.

Warm weather is also a great time to enjoy spritzers and cocktails so if you are shopping for an amateur bartender, the ingredients for light and refreshing drinks would make a nice addition to the home bar.

Painting Supplies:

Paint nights are insanely popular and are fun for the artistic and not so much alike. They can also be done in the great outdoors so how about preparing a paint night kit for your giftee? Find inspiration for a painting project on Pinterest, get the necessary supplies, a blanket to sit on, and a picnic basket to hold everything. You could even double the order to make it work for a date night for your giftee and their significant other! Whomever it is you are shopping for will love getting in touch with their creative side while enjoying the weather and will be touched by how thoughtful the gift is too. 🙂

Get started on your warm weather birthday shopping with the ideas above that will keep your giftee smiling in the sunshine for as long as the weather allows!

What season is your birthday in? What is your favorite outdoor activity? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

February 2021 Finishes

February 2021 Finishes

Howdy! While January literally felt like it lasted for five months, February flew by and it is already time to discuss my beauty product finishes for the month. I have always enjoyed testing out new bath, body, and skin care products but I never realized just how much until the COVID-19 pandemic. Trying new products not only keeps me looking my best but gives me something different in my routine to look forward to, is relatively cheap, and helps enhance my relaxation time after work.

Whenever I do any online shopping, I usually will buy a couple of beauty treats for myself and tested out two new serums this month. I was very impressed with one but the other? Not in the slightest. Let’s discuss:

B1A430BB-B6EF-42A8-AD2D-215A73659B58

Would I Use Again?

Why/Why Not?

Lubriderm Lotion: Pre-pandemic, I was getting tattooed regularly and always had several bottles of fragrance free Lubriderm lotion handy in my stockpile for after care. Obviously, I haven’t been to my favorite tattoo shop any time recently so my half used bottle of Lubriderm had just been sitting there on the bathroom counter taking up space. Waste not want not, so for the past four or five months I tried to use the lotion before bed or after my shower much to the relief of my dry winter skin! Other than the bonus of being fragrance free, this lotion absorbs super quickly and feels light while working effectively.

I was glad to finally finish this lotion up and will be looking forward to using the good ol’ Lubriderm again… After getting new tattoos post pandemic, that is! 😀

Azure Lux Serum: I have been using Azure Lux Sparkling Oil serums pretty regularly for the past two years, switching between the 24K and Rose Gold options. I decided that I wanted to try a different serum by them and went with the White Gold which encouraged firming, toning, and rejuvenating. For the entire month of using it twice daily, I noticed no difference in my skin whatsoever. In fact, I can recall times when I thought my skin looked dull and that was never an issue with the Rose or 24K Gold serums. I definitely won’t be buying this product again and would not recommend it.

I actually don’t plan on purchasing any more Azure Lux serums after I finish what is in my stockpile because I feel like the products are no longer benefiting my skin. Which directly leads into me trying out the last finish that we’re going to talk about:

Eclat Serum: After making the decision to wean myself off of the Azure Lux products, I began to research the best recommended skin care for people in their mid-twenties. The resounding theme was incorporating a Vitamin C serum and hyaluronic acid into your routine so I ordered a serum by Eclat and a moisturizer by Neutrogena. The Eclat serum was not only very highly rated on Amazon (five stars) but also very cheap (seven bucks) so I figured why not? And I am so glad I did!

After one use of the Eclat serum, I noticed a difference in my skin which was incredibly radiant despite the fact that I was dead tired. I was simply amazed by the results and continued to be impressed morning and night because the difference it made in my skin in one use wasn’t just a fluke. My skin was glowing! I cannot wait to finish up the rest of my Azure Lux serums so I can use it again and I highly recommend it.

My only qualm with this serum is that the bottle is fairly small. If you are thinking of making a purchase, make sure you get two of them if you want a full month of usage. With twice daily use, I finished this serum in a little under three weeks.

Overall, February was a pretty good month for finishes. I have also been enjoying using up the several slabs of bar soap that I received as gifts. If you want to make an effort to reduce the use of plastic in your life, using face and body bars as opposed to shower gels and cleansers is a great first step! 🙂

What is a must have beauty product for you? What is your skin care routine like? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

Whole Lotta Nothing

Whole Lotta Nothing

Hi everyone!! Valentine’s Day has come and past and, now, I am eagerly awaiting the warm weather and (hopefully) lack of snow that comes with the spring time. It is exciting to think of the possibilities that come with spring amidst the COVID-19 pandemic because warmer weather means the opportunity to social distance with friends outside. Unfortunately, we are not quite there yet as Ohio has been getting hit with a fair amount of snow, which means a few more months of a whole lotta nothing.

Johnny and I will have been hunkered down for an entire year on March 19th and we will continue doing so until it’s considered safe. However, I’d be a liar if I said I wasn’t getting a little impatient waiting for it! The excitement of the holiday season has been long gone and, while it has been nice hibernating, it will be even nicer to enjoy the sunshine and see people in person (while following all safety regulations) as opposed to on the screen of my laptop.

Despite having a whole lotta nothing going on, I still feel insanely lucky because boring is good right now. Being tucked safely into the apartment with Johnny watching our shows, listening to music, or playing games is the best thing that we can both be doing for ourselves and loved ones and I am proud of our dedication for the past year. The pandemic is a scary thing but knowing that we are both doing everything we can to protect people is really comforting to me.

If the cabin fever is starting to kick in more intensely for you in your lock down lifestyle, I get it completely. But, in a few short weeks, the sun will be shining and being outdoors with friends will be possible and I encourage all of you to keep holding on until then! Being able to say that you’re doing a whole lotta nothing during a pandemic is something to be grateful for, no matter how boring it is. Sink into the couch, start that new series on Netflix, and let the countdown till spring and better times begin!

What is your lock down lifestyle like? What are you looking forward to come spring? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

More Spring Flowers To Brighten Your Day

More Spring Flowers To Brighten Your Day

Hello! At my parent’s house a few weeks ago, my dad got a bouquet of the most lovely orange and yellow tulips for the kitchen table. I was so enamored by the sunburst colors, especially in the middle of winter, and I didn’t think that anything could be prettier. That is, until I saw the beautiful arrangement that my dad made special for Valentine’s Day. The ruby red tulips he picked out were such a unique twist on traditional V-Day roses and it also rang true to my Lil Red namesake so, of course, I was smitten! Check it out:

Whenever I see a new bouquet at my parent’s house, it never fails to put a huge smile on my face. My dad has never been known to spend more than five dollars or so on flowers but he always manages to make his arrangements look stunning and expensive. These store bought tulips are divine, yes, but they still have nothing on my dad’s wildflower bouquets fresh from his garden in the summer!

As you can tell in the pictures above, there was snow on the ground when my dad made this bouquet and the contrast of the freshly fallen snow and the fiery red flowers was like Mother Nature putting on her own personal show special for us. I can’t imagine anyone not being able to delight in beautiful, colorful flowers and I feel so lucky that I constantly get to enjoy them at my parent’s house. ❤

What is your favorite flower? Do you have a green thumb? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

Valentine’s Day Celebration

Valentine’s Day Celebration

Hello! On Valentine’s Day this past Sunday, Johnny and I didn’t do too much of anything because there really isn’t much to do! But that’s A-okay with me since we both still had a great day. Our Sundays have always been what we call “Lazy Sunday” and, as you can guess, we just stay in our pajamas all day and catch up on all of our TV shows or watch a couple of movies. This particular Lazy Sunday which Valentine’s Day happened to fall on was relaxing, as per usual, and a huge treat for me because Johnny got us Taco Bell for lunch which is literally all I wanted since we had already given each other our gifts the week before.

We spent our Valentine’s Day watching the new Saturday Night Live, King Of The Hill, Demon Slayer, and Mad Max: Fury Road at Johnny’s request. We were both so full from lunch that I don’t think we would have done anything even if it was safe to do so! Mad Max was pretty good, despite it just being a two hour long car chase (lol), and Johnny thought it was the funniest thing every time I would yell or gasp about an explosion or close calls with the main characters. I couldn’t help it – Even though it was definitely not my kind of movie, it was still intense AF!

Prior to mine and Johnny’s lazy day, I also got to see my parents, brother, and my lil niece who they were babysitting. I had such a wonderful time making masterpieces with dot markers with Valerie and have her handy work proudly displayed on my fridge. We also had a blast dancing to our favorite songs from Moana, spinning around on our bums on the kitchen floor, and practicing colors and animal noises. My Valentine’s Day wouldn’t be complete without seeing my Val Gal, after all. ❤

Last year’s Valentine’s Day when Johnny and I spent a weekend in Marietta, Ohio while Johnny’s band played a show was, obviously, a lot more exciting. But, despite the circumstances this year, we both still had an awesome day gorging ourselves and getting to know all of our streaming services even better, haha. Any time spent with him is my favorite thing whether it be watching his band play live or just watching an action movie on the couch. Lazy Valentine’s Day was, in our opinion, still a huge success and I am so thankful for every holiday that we celebrate together!

How did you spend Valentine’s Day? What is a typical Sunday like for you? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

Sweet Treats For Valentine’s Day

Sweet Treats For Valentine’s Day

Hi! Valentine’s Day is right around the corner and if you are still struggling to come up with some fun ways to celebrate at home, then how about spending an afternoon baking all of the desserts with your SO? Creating confectionery treats together will give you a chance to showcase how well you work as a team and decorating your masterpieces will be a blast. Taste testing them will be even better, though!

If you are lacking inspiration for delicious desserts to try your hand at – fear not! You can extend your date by enjoying a carefully-crafted dessert menu at your favorite restaurant. Who says you can’t eat dessert first?! You might find that delightful treat that you just have to make for yourself! For more ideas on Valentine’s Day sweets, how about trying your hand at making the following?

Chocolate:

Who needs a heart shaped box of chocolate when you can make your own, instead? Two Christmases ago, I made chocolate with my boyfriend’s mom and not only was it tons of fun but the end results were delicious! You can find all kinds of cute chocolate molds, get creative with your color choices, and add on to your pieces of candy with peanut butter, chopped nuts, or shredded coconut. Don’t forget that you can also make chocolate covered pretzels and fruit too. Hello, chocolate covered strawberries!

While chocolate is fun to make, it is also fun to drink too. To add even more chocolate deliciousness to the mix, how about a hot chocolate bar? You can use ceremonial cacao for a rich, bold flavored drink and include all of your favorite toppings. Whipped cream, marshmallows, peppermint bits, and chocolate sprinkles are all excellent options!

Cake Pops:

If you and yours aren’t big chocoholics, you could try your hand at making cake pops, cupcakes, or just a plain old cake for dessert. Investigate over YouTube and Pinterest for some ideas on how to decorate and see who is the Cake Boss in your kitchen! Red Velvet, angel food, and strawberry cakes are ideal for Valentine’s Day and I love a whipped frosting, myself. And, if whatever form of cake you go with is super successful, you can try this idea again on one of your birthdays. Store bought cake, what?

Ice Cream Sundae Bar:

Ice cream sundae bars are ideal for those who have a sweet tooth and aren’t trying to wait around for a cake to bake! Head to the store together and grab what you both need to build the perfect sundae. Fruits, candies, syrups, and whipped cream are all great starters. If you’re looking for a boozy treat, don’t forget that black or blueberry wine is awesome over vanilla bean ice cream! Love the sundae idea but want more of a challenge? You could make your own ice cream! But, it might be good to have a pint of Ben & Jerry’s for back up. 🙂

If you want to try your hand at making your own ice cream, it’s a great idea to find some inspiration first. Check out the flavors at your local ice cream parlors or you can view Banana Daddy for amazing soft serve and sundaes that are sure to please. If each of you are making your own batch, you could each go for a flavor that compliments the other for a swirl treat. There is nothing better than homemade ice cream so save me a scoop!

Lava Cakes:

I am not a huge fan of cake (the texture bothers me) but I do love a chocolate lava cake every once in a blue moon. The rich chocolate and the gooey hot fudge center topped with a scoop of vanilla ice cream? Forget about it!! Lots of brands have make your own lava cake kits if making it from scratch seems like a daunting task. Homemade or from a box, you will still experience the joy of baking something delicious with your SO.

Don’t Forget:

To add some atmosphere, whether it be fun or romantic, both of you could create a playlist to listen to while you bake. Be sure to grab champagne or sparkling cider when you are picking up your ingredients too!

What is your favorite dessert? How do you plan on celebrating Valentine’s Day? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

Desire Mapping For 2021 With The Goddess Attainable

Hello everyone and welcome to a guest post written by my new friend, Libby, of The Goddess Attainable! I am so happy for Libby’s work to be featured on lifewithlilred for the first time, thanks to her answering my call to action for New Year’s guest bloggers. Today, you are in for a treat because Libby is going to teach us all about her process for Desire Mapping. Libby is such a delightful writer and this post is both inspiring and incredibly insightful. Enjoy:

Desire Mapping For 2021 With The Goddess Attainable

[This article is not an advertisement for Danielle LaPorte, and I am not sponsored by her or anyone. However, her Desire Mapping process is integral to my recent experiences with regards to my desires for 2021, so I will share details about her program throughout this article.]

My first experience with Danielle LaPorte’s Desire Mapping was back in 2014, spending time with my twin sister, in her living room, with two other acquaintances. At the time, none of us knew, but this initial one-day experience would be the foundation that later formed our tribe (spiritual friend group).

My twin sister was the glue that initially merged this delicate synergy of humans, and it was she who initiated this Desire Mapping exercise, surrounded by delicious food, cozy blankets, and four loving beings. One other precious tribe member would join us one year later and would also become my best friend in the whole world. Our tribe now consists of five talented, gifted, intuitive, sensitive, powerful, authentic, individual people, all trusting and sharing our lives with one another on a regular basis. It’s a true gift to have found a group like this, and our first Desire Mapping experience in 2014 was the beginning of this miraculous union of souls.

LaPorte’s Desire Mapping program is essentially a powerful workbook that invites you to brainstorm about your deepest soul desires. Page by page, question by question, you move through the workbook until you have zeroed in on your deepest “Core Desired Feelings” or “CDFs,” and have compressed these feelings into three to five power words. If you approach this map work with an open heart and a genuine desire to uncover your deepest Core Desired Feelings, these buzz words will make you feel goose bumps when you say them, and will ultimately resonate with your soul.

map

The Goddess Attainable’s Desire Mapping workbook ca. 2014. Core Desired Feelings: Kindredness, Shakti-Shiva, Precious Pearl, and Dripping Beauty. At the time, I didn’t even really know what these words meant, but they felt magical when I said them, and I knew I just wanted more of whatever was promised within them.

Your Core Desired Feelings are your own and there is no wrong way to do this, as long as you are being honest with yourself. This exercise can be done individually or in a group, but I have personally found that sharing these precious words with other trusting souls is much more powerful. It’s important to have witnesses to your experience, and to support and witness others’ experiences as well.

Desire Mapping 2.0:

By 2020, our tribe had begun to meet regularly, once a year for a weekend getaway. However, due to the pandemic, our most recent Tribal Council was held virtually. My twin sister had the brilliant idea of revisiting our Desire Maps and re-doing the workbook with fresher eyes and more expanded souls. Also, our fifth and final tribe member had never experienced the initial magic, so we were excited to include him on this journey.

map1

Left: Virtual setup for Tribal Council 2020. Right: The Goddess Attainable finding her happy place before a day of electronic overload.

Our tribe had all gone through the workbook before meeting this time, and our plan was to share bits and pieces of our brainstorming process, and conclude by sharing our individual, newly revamped, updated 2020 CDFs with each other. However, things did not go according to plan.

It turns out that doing lots of spiritual work, sharing deep and vulnerable feelings with one another, in a safe and cozy setting with blankets and tea is super powerful and also super fun! However, trying to do this virtually is a bit more life-sucking, draining, and is ultimately, quite overwhelming. Our tribe ran out of steam before we were ever able to share our CDFs with one another, and the group voted to table this whole exercise for another time.

I waited patiently for months and months until the group as a whole decided it was ready to re-open this Mapping dance. I was so excited about my new CDFs and dying to share them with my tribe members. I felt like my power words couldn’t come alive until I shared them out loud, and keeping them to myself was like being asked to sit on my hands indefinitely with my body covered in mosquito bites. Okay, it wasn’t quite that bad, but I was impatient to say the least.

I eventually let go of the whole struggle and began to truly trust that if the group was not ready to share in this way, there must be a more divine reason for this. And my trusting paid off, because one of our tribe members finally suggested, kind of out of nowhere, that we all share our CDFs as a way to celebrate the New Year. What a brilliant idea, and much better timing than sharing them when we were all exhausted and spiritually spent from our Tribal Council months earlier.

Our tribe met around 4 PM on New Year’s Eve, 2020, and we shared our CDFs with one another. It was a beautiful and divine experience for all, as always.

After any kind of spiritual gathering, of course, it’s always good to ground yourself with some chocolate, so I made sure to do that…

The Goddess Attainable’s 2021 Core Desired Feelings:

  • GODDESS
  • FLOW
  • ENCHANTMENT
  • DEVOTION

How The Universe Manifests Our Desires:

I have found in life, that often when I ask for something, it comes to me when the time is right, and in the form The Universe deems most appropriate. Dreams and desires do not manifest in the way I always imagine, or even want, and they almost never just land in my lap.

For instance, say I desire more love in my life. If I put my wish out there into the world, it may come in the form of a challenge at work. Perhaps I experience a situation where I am called to stand up for myself with a colleague. This may be the gift, the miracle, the desire manifested, even though at the time, I may easily feel victimized and hurt by an experience like this. However, me standing up for myself at work is a form of self-love, and love arrives in all forms. It may not have been a puppy dog wrapped in blankets, left in a cuddly basket on my doorstep, but rather, it came in the form of an experience or incident that invited me to choose love in that moment.

Manifestation is a divine collaboration. When we ask for something, we really do need to meet The Universe halfway. It’s not about punishment, or even earning our desires. It’s just the way the Universe works. If we want to truly feel love in our bodies, we need to experience it in our bones; and navigating real-life, un-planned situations, is one of the most effective ways to absorb new and higher energy from The Universe. We work our manifested desires into our lives, piece by piece, one experience at a time, until they finally become part of us. This is the reality of manifestation, and it truly works, if we know how to work it.

map3

I always think of this when I think about the idea of meeting The Universe halfway. The Creation of Adam, detail, Michelangelo, Sistine Chapel

Ever since I shared my CDFs with my tribe, I have been noticing their presence showing up in my life in some rather blatant ways. This past week, FLOW, one of my Core Desired Feelings, made multiple appearances, but not in the way I had hoped or imagined.

Let me explain a bit about my desire for more FLOW in life. I am a controlling person. I like things neat and orderly. I am an anal-retentive Virgo and like when things go according to plan. I am not a go-with-the-FLOW person. Contained within this word are all of my desires to achieve more FLOW in my life. I want to go with the FLOW of events and circumstances. I want to jump in the river of life and see where the FLOW takes me. I want to FLOW within my body and feel more relaxed states of energy, as I open my stiff joints and release all of the tightness and tension. I want to shrug my shoulders when things go wrong and just move on in a relaxed and FLOW-forward kind of way.

This week, I was given challenges that were seemingly tailor-made for me, in an effort to integrate some more FLOW into my life. The Universe found the most open and vulnerable (maybe even fragile) parts of me, where there were some cracks in the surface, and infiltrated at just the right moment.

Light enters most efficiently through the cracks in our armor, and our job is to simply let the light in.

I shared my desires with The Universe (and my beloved tribe), and The Universe responded in kind. I could have chosen to believe I was a victim of the following circumstances, but instead, I chose to recognize the gift of FLOW that I was being invited to receive.

The Toilet:

I won’t get into the gruesome details with this one, and I will certainly spare you the pictures (I didn’t take any). Needless to say, I am a very clean person, and I hate when my bathroom and/or my toilet are not perfectly clean and functioning properly. Hate it. But during this week, the toilet was not working or functioning properly, and I was unable to get it working in a timely manner.

My partner took time away from his clients (he is a therapist and works from home) to come down and try to assist. He spent a good thirty minutes attempting to rectify the situation, and it soon became clear to us both, that this situation was unrectifyable (I often make up words as I go, but all of my word inventions are words that I think should already exist).

Just to give you an idea of how difficult this was for me, while my partner was in the bathroom, trying his best to fix the problem, I was out in the living room, lying on the floor, curled up in a ball, trying not to vomit. Not kidding. There was utter trauma coursing through my veins, and I was doing my best not to lose it. Yeah, that’s how I get when it comes to this kind of thing.

However, something within me decided to handle things differently this time. Just before my partner emerged from the bathroom, I unfurled myself from my trauma ball and rose feebly to my feet, bracing myself for bad news. He let me know that he had to return to work and told me that he would not be available to help for another few hours. I was stuck and left on my own to try to fix the issue, and more importantly, I needed to use the bathroom…SOON! But I was determined to do things differently this time.

WAYS IN WHICH I WENT WITH THE FLOW DURING THIS ENTIRE DRAMA:

  1. When my partner came out of the bathroom to let me know that he was unable to fix the problem and had to return to work, I said, “Okay, I’ll figure it out, thank you for trying.” Whaaa????!!! Never in a million years would I typically respond this way, but I did.
  2. During this time, I must note, that I was actually incorporating another one of my CDF’s into the whole situation, and was truly asking in every moment, “What would a GODDESS do?” A goddess would not have a tantrum, that’s for sure.
  3. Remember, I had to use the bathroom at this point, so that was my most pressing concern. I contemplated going to a convenience store, but not my favorite option. Instead, I contacted a friend who lives near me, asked to use her bathroom, and took her up on her offer to lend me her toilet auger. During the whole drive, I remained calm and just continued to tell myself, “Tomorrow will be better.”
  4. On the way home, I took it upon myself to make a pit stop at Home Depot to pick up something that might be helpful and contribute to the solution.
  5. I got home and thought I could sit around and wait for my partner to finish work and then have him take care of the issue (just being in the bathroom at this point, still made me kind of nauseous), or I could try to tackle this problem myself, like a badass GODDESS who knows how to go with the FLOW.
  6. I called my brother-in-law, who just happens to know everything about plumbing, and asked him how to use the tools I was attempting to use.
  7. Within a few disgusting, traumatic, horror-filled, yet relatively calm minutes, I had fixed the toilet, all by myself, and I didn’t even vomit in my mouth!

After some reflection on the situation, I even recognized the uncanny combination of events. I literally and metaphorically had unstuck a blocked FLOW within myself and my home. Again, this is the way The Universe works. I want more FLOW in my life, right? Well, FLOW doesn’t just come to me in an instant, like a flash of lightening. I have to experience it in my body by being given opportunities to flex that atrophied FLOW muscle. I experienced more FLOW by being presented with a challenge to bring about this quality within me.

Next challenge (AKA invitation to receive)…

The Blender:

For the last several weeks, I have been attempting to DETOX FROM THE HOLIDAYS, and it’s been going swimmingly. An integral part of my detox efforts has been a blender that I bought for myself as a Christmas present. I have needed a blender for so long and can’t believe I have lived this long without one. I have been making soups and smoothies galore, and it has been a super fun part of my strict detox regimen.

That all ended several days ago…

map4

There’s no explanation. The blender glass was wet and it slipped off the counter when my back was turned, and I was powerless over its destruction. In those moments, what can one do?

I could have cried. I could have pouted. I could have cursed (okay, I definitely cursed). But I didn’t cry and I didn’t pout. I went with the FLOW. It’s a blender. It happens. Things break. Things that I just bought and that I really love just break. It sucks, but what was I going to do? I cleaned up the broken pieces of glass and went on with my day.

I considered going out and buying a brand new blender, but that seemed silly to me. I just bought this! And I don’t need a blender, I just need the glass. I looked online to see if I could order replacement glass for the blender, and the exact kind of glass I need is on back order with no estimated date of arrival. Another invitation to FLOW. Again, what can I do? What would a GODDESS do? She would pivot. She would adjust. So that’s what I did. And it made for a more FLOW-y existence.

I decided, “Whelp, I have all this fruit in my refrigerator that I planned to make for daily smoothies. I guess I will just have a bowl of fruit salad, instead. Every day. Indefinitely. Until my elusive blender glass arrives someday. Just go with it. It’s no biggie.”

Relaxation:

My final invitation to FLOW this week was initiated by moi, and beginning Friday afternoon when I had completed my work tasks for the day, I made a point to just veg out on the couch, give myself a break, and relax. I often feel pressure to produce, produce, produce. Creative people struggle with this often, and I am constantly dancing between my urges to feed the fires of desire within my belly, and my intuitive understanding of my need for rest.

Ultimately, I heeded my body. At the end of this long, challenging, and educational week, I simply enjoyed the FLOW of spreading my limbs out on my couch while mindlessly watching the Kardashians and their Los Angeles shenanigans.

In Conclusion:

For most of my life, I have always wished for love. Not puppy love or self-love, although those kinds of loves are great, but rather, true love. In 2018, I was blessed with finding this special true love, and over the last two and a half years, I have found myself in a position of needing new things to desire.

It’s an amazing thing when our wishes come true, but the party doesn’t stop there. Dreams and desires are what keep us moving as humans. New desires keep coming once we achieve our goals. That doesn’t make us greedy or selfish, it just makes us participants in life. One of the best ways to remind us that we are alive, is to check in with ourselves on a regular basis and revisit our desires. This keeps them present and active, and keeps us aligned with our authentic selves.

At the strong urging of two of my tribe members who were already hooked on this Desire Map Planner, I caved and finally bought one for myself this year.

I resisted this planner for a long time because there is something a bit burdensome about carrying my desires around with me all of the time. If I never desire anything, I never have to be let down, right? However, if I never dare to dream, I may never reach my life’s full potential.

Living my dreams doesn’t have to be scary or profound. Living out my dream today looks like smashed blender glass on the kitchen floor. It looks like a stopped-up toilet. And finding my true love didn’t look like a romantic comedy, but rather a really nice date with a really nice guy who had beautiful eyes and a smile that lit up the entire restaurant.

Living our dreams just kind of looks like life. But we can truly be the ruler of our lives if we can just muster up the courage to admit that we do have a bit of an idea of how we might like our lives to go, and what we might want to feel like along the way. We aren’t allowed to dictate how those dreams arrive, but we can certainly make ourselves available to The Universe’s wisdom, and open ourselves to receive The Universe’s offerings. Our dream lives will follow. We all deserve this right, and we are all capable of walking this path.

I wish you so much luck, love, and happiness on your journey, and want to thank you so much for allowing me to share just a piece of mine with you. XO!

Have Some Writing Prompts!

Have Some Writing Prompts!

Hello everyone and happy February! Can you believe that we are already one month into 2021? I, personally, am having a hard time wrapping my head around the fact that we are quickly approaching the one year mark of when the bars, restaurants, and salons first shut down in Ohio on March 19th, 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Time really seems to be flying and dragging on at the exact same time.

This pandemic has done us writers literally no favors and I understand how hard it is to come up with daily content better than anyone. And, as we approach the one year anniversary (worst anniversary ever) of the coronavirus, writing can seem even more daunting as this limbo we are all stuck in feels never ending. If you are struggling to come up with content on your page, fear not! Lil Red is here to help with some writing prompts and I can’t wait to see what all of you come up with:

  • How have you adjusted to life during a pandemic?
  • What has been your favorite memory during the past year?
  • Valentine’s Day is almost here! Do you have any ideas for at home dates and gifts?
  • The pandemic has put many big events on hold. Did you miss out on any concerts or plays?
  • It’s never too early to start your spring cleaning! Any tips on the best ways to deep clean your place?
  • How has your personal style changed since the pandemic?
  • Working from home? What are the pros and cons, in your opinion?
  • Do any of your friends run a small business? Now is the time to support them by giving a shout out on your page!
  • What is the most binge worthy series you watched during the pandemic?
  • What is the most unputdownable book you’ve read this past year?
  • Where do you turn for inspiration when you are writing?
  • Describe a typical day in your pandemic life.

Believe it or not, this post is as much for me as it is for all of you because I will be using some of these prompts, myself! If you plan on using any of the above, let me know so I can check your post out. 🙂 Happy writing!

What do you do when you have writer’s block? What are you most looking forward to post pandemic? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

January 2021 Finishes

January 2021 Finishes

Hello!! We almost have the first month of 2021 down in the books so that means it is time to discuss my finishes for January! This was a good month for empties, if I do say so myself, because I was able to finish up a few products that I’ve been using for forever as well as revisit some old favorites compliments of Christmas. Take a look at my finishes and let’s get to it:

Would I Use Again?

Why/Why Not?

B&BW Body Wash: I have never used a Bath & Body Wash shower gel that I didn’t enjoy and the French Lavender & Honey is no exception. I am normally not a lavender girl in any sense of the word, however, this scent is so much more than floral. There is a delicious kiss of nectarine and rich honey mixed in making for a fragrance fresh from the most lush fields of flowers. The French Lavender & Honey is sweet without being overpowering and the nectarine gives it a fruity pop – I just love it and would gladly use it again! It took me over one month to finish the bottle.

Tree Hut Scrub: I have been working on finishing my Lemon Blueberry Tart Shea Sugar Scrub by Tree Hut for literally the past year and was so happy to finally finish it! Not because I didn’t like the product but because I have another Tree Hut scrub that I would like to use eventually, lol. This scrub rocked and I would use it every time I shaved for the closest, smoothest results. Not only did the sweet tart scent smell good enough to eat but it left my skin so soft and hydrated after shaving that I didn’t even have to use lotion after. A little went such a long way too, which is why I had been using it for so long!

TBS Moisturizer: This travel sized Vitamin E moisturizer came in one of my Christmas prezzies from my brother and I was so happy to use one of my Body Shop favorites again. The Vitamin E moisturizer is so rich and creamy and it always leaves my skin looking and feeling peaches and cream soft after each use. It also really is the perfect travel size as I got exactly one week of twice daily applications from the tiny jar.

And, finally, in case you were wondering why there is no lid on my SkinLab Lift & Firm eye gel, it’s because I dropped it while I was putting it back on and it bounced right into the toilet. I was so mad, lol, it was just one of those mornings, I guess! -_-

Which products did you use up this month? Do you have a favorite scent from Bath & Body Works or The Body Shop? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

At Home Valentine’s Day Date Ideas

At Home Valentine’s Day Date Ideas

Hi! Valentine’s Day is, hands down, the most romantic day of the year for couples and if we weren’t in the midst of a pandemic, then I’m sure all of the restaurants and cocktail bars would be jam packed full of love birds celebrating. V-Day is going to be different this year, as staying at home is the best option for everyone right now. But, that doesn’t mean that you still can’t have a romantic evening in! Try the following for a fun and totally safe Valentine’s Day from home:

Clear the floor:

If you and your SO love to dance, then clear out a big section of floor space to create your own at home dance floor. Make a playlist with all of your favorite songs and a few ballads, of course, and dance the night away. Don’t forget to light some candles and dim the lights for an even more romantic atmosphere!

Cocktail hour:

On Valentine’s Days past, you and your partner might have enjoyed a cocktail hour at your favorite local bar. So bring the bar home! Get all of the fixings for both of your go to drinks and play bartender for each other. And don’t forget some light snacks so it doesn’t all go straight to your head! Pop on a rom com while you sip your drinks and it will be even better than being at the movie theater!

Plant some flowers:

Who needs a bouquet when you can plant some potted flowers for your house together? Pick out a packet of seeds, a beautiful terracotta pot, and soil and get your hands dirty. Watching your flowers grow together will be a sweet reminder of how your own love blossomed and you will be able to enjoy them for much longer than a bouquet that will wither within the week.

Should you not have a green thumb, a flower delivery is sure to make your partner’s day. Companies like Daily Blooms delivering flowers throughout QLD (or a similar business in your local area) will bring a stunning bouquet straight to your door. You can have it customized with your significant other’s favorite flowers and a pretty vase to display in your home. Once the bouquet begins to wither, you could even press the flowers as a keepsake of your Valentine’s Day together.

Sweet treats:

If you and your partner both have a sweet tooth, then try your hands at making and decorating some delicious desserts. From cookies and chocolates to cake, cupcakes, cake pops, and chocolate covered fruit, you will have plenty of options to pick from. Or, if you want to make a day of it, you can bake a little bit of everything! So sweet and so fun too. 🙂

Dinner dress up:

After you’re done preparing dinner or waiting for your take out to arrive, head to your closet and you can both style an outfit for each other to wear during the meal. This will be really fun if you two have an eye for fashion and you will each get to see what your partner thinks you look best in. And, yes, sweat pants and pajamas are both viable options!

In my opinion, creating your own special memories at home seems even more intimate and romantic than a dinner out. Who needs a traditional Valentine’s Day, anyways? ❤

What are your Valentine’s Day plans? What is your favorite V-Day memory? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah
