New Hot Pink & Black Nails

New Hot Pink & Black Nails

Hiii everyone and TGIF! Yesterday, I had a little pampering party to get myself perfect for the holiday weekend. I got my nails filled in the morning and then spent the evening dyeing my hair to get it nice and bright red for Christmas. As always, my nail tech, Vinny, did an amazing job shaping and sharpening my nails. I opted for a color for the accent nail that I rarely pick but am actually loving right now. Hot pink! It is far from your classic, run of the mill highlighter hot pink but more like a bright fuchsia and I think it is so fun! Take a look:

nails3.jpeg

The color looks admittedly red in this picture because poor camera quality but you get the point! Normally, when I am picking an accent nail color, I go with red or shades like grey, beige, or white. This new accent nail color is definitely out of my comfort zone considering I don’t own one pink item in my wardrobe but I’m glad that I went for it! Small changes to your daily routine are always fun and the little things like a new nail polish color or lipstick can really set yourself up for having an amazing day. Make sure that you find time to TREAT YOSELF this holiday season!

I hope everyone has a fab Friday and a great Christmas Eve Eve! What accent color should I pick next time I get my nails filled? What is your go to shade of nail polish? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

New Graduation Pic!

New Graduation Pic!

Heyy everyone and happy Thursday! Yesterday evening the professional photographers from my graduation uploaded the shots that they took for purchasing. I was feeling really nervous that there wouldn’t be any pictures that I liked because, unfortunately, I hated all of the pictures of me that my brother took! Luckily, there was one totally perf picture in the bunch that didn’t feature a weird walking across the stage angle or a (Yikes!) double chin!!

Instead of purchasing a photo package of the pic which was super costly, my parents and I decided to buy a digital download of the image so that we could print it out however we want. This picture was taken right before I walked across the stage and I freaking love it! Take a look:

graduationpic1.jpg

Aw!! :*)

Even though we had to shell out the moolah to get this picture, it was so worth it, considering there wasn’t a picture taken that I deemed worthy enough to print out and frame. I love how this pic shows off the stole and honor chord so nicely and I really like the background, too! GREAT SUCCESS!!

I hope all of you have a fab day and I will talk to all of you soon! Who is ready for the holidays? Does anyone have any last minute shopping to finish? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

Moving At Short Notice Doesn’t Have To Be An Ordeal…

Moving At Short Notice Doesn’t Have To Be An Ordeal…

In an ideal world, we’d all have a lot of notice to plan out every little detail of our house moves, and take all of the necessary steps to make sure it’s a stress-free breeze. Unfortunately, we don’t live in an ideal world! Sometimes, life throws us a fast one, and we find ourselves having to move into a new house or apartment at short notice. If you’re in this situation, here are a few pointers to make it as easy as possible:

Start Packing. Right Now! From the moment you know that you’re going to move, before every little bit of paperwork is in order, you should begin your packing process. Packing everything you’ll need is a big task and the sooner you get started, the sooner it will be out of the way. Obviously, there are certain things that you’re going to want access to between now and when you’re all settled into the new place. For this reason, start off with the least essential items, like art and other decorative items. Make sure to keep your boxes nice and organized, labeling them with categories or the room that they’re ultimately headed to. It’s also a good idea to clean the place up as you go, which will save you having to do it in one big rush closer to moving day.

Packing up house really is a monumental task. It can be exhausting and, frankly, overwhelming at times. If you are feeling the stress of packing, there is always help available even if your friends and family can’t fit an assist into their schedule. Simply enter a search for “movers in Raleigh, NC” (or your local area) as chances are high that a professional team of movers offers packing services too.

Make Reservations Well in Advance: After taking a bite out of your packing, this should be your next highest priority. While business comes in peaks and troughs, the removals industry is never exactly slow, and various moving companies, valet storage services, and so on are going to have pretty full calendars for the year ahead. For this reason, you need to start calling companies up and making reservations as soon as you have a definite moving date. First of all, this will give you a little more wiggling room for comparing quotes and finding the services which are most cost-effective for you. Secondly, there’s a slim, but potentially catastrophic chance that you won’t be able to find any professional movers in time! If you need to be out of your property pretty soon, then start making calls as a matter of urgency!

Set Deadlines: Seeing as you’re reading this, there’s a fair chance that you have a date where you definitely have to be out of wherever it is you’re currently staying. However, this shouldn’t be the only thing that you’re marking on your calendar. Moves are inherently stressful and if you want to mitigate that stress as much as possible, it’s important to exercise some self-discipline and set yourself deadlines for packing up certain boxes, making arrangements with the movers, sourcing help from your friends, and so on. Organizing yourself like this might feel like way too much but you’ll be doing yourself a big favor, and because you’re on a tight schedule you won’t have to be self-disciplined for too long! 🙂

How To Get The Most Out Of Your New Tech

How To Get The Most Out Of Your New Tech

If you’ve shelled out on an expensive gadget just in time for Christmas, then you’re going to want to get the most out of it. That means everything from optimizing it to protecting it. The first thing you must do when you purchase a new gadget is to buy a good case for it. There are plenty of options on the market but don’t just go for style. It won’t matter how good your new iPad case looks if it disintegrates on contact with the floor. Buy the case that will give your iPad the best protection from the elements and the occasional drop. A good case is going to save you a lot of money in the long run. If you’ve spent a lot on a gadget, you’re going to want to protect it like it is your home.

If your gadget has a huge screen area in comparison to its chassis, that means that it is mostly glass. You should know exactly how fragile glass is! Along with a good case, investing in a screen protector won’t only protect your phone or tablet from the oils that your skin leaves behind and smudges from swiping, but it could stop your screen from shattering upon contact with the ground. Invest in a tempered glass screen protector if you dislike the feel of the plastic versions.

A power bank is a modern essential. Phones seem to run out of juice more quickly than ever before. A good power bank will not only give your phone a new charge to full from zero, but it will also do it again and again. Most power banks will work with a wide range of portable gadgets, so if your Kindle runs out just before the end of the chapter, you’ve now got your answer. As with cases, there are plenty of options on the market. Just do your research on a site like IThingum before you lay down the cash.

A good SD card is a lifesaver if your gadget allows it. Most Apple products won’t, but if you’re an Android head, then you’re in luck. An SD card will upgrade the storage of your device to levels that you’ll be able to appreciate if you take too many photos! A 32gb upgrade will do the trick for most and it won’t set you back too much. It might even increase the lifespan of your device.

You should also download anti-virus software for your new device. Mobile devices, as well as laptops, are increasingly becoming targeted by cyber-criminals. Scan your systems and ensure that you are protected from the get-go. The consequences of this are disastrous and could leave you in a bad place. Don’t take the risk!

If you’ve got a new gadget, you’re going to need to look after it to get the most out of it. With portable devices, there’s not much more that you need to do as most are already optimized for performance. Just give your gadgets a boost and the occasional clean, and they will serve you well. IF you choose to neglect them, they are going to fail sooner than you could have prepared for.

Clean and Pristine: Keeping Your New Kitchen Looking New

Clean and Pristine: Keeping Your New Kitchen Looking New

Congratulations on your shiny new kitchen. Maybe you’ve gone all out on it and chosen some fancy features you’ve always dreamed of having. It looks beautiful and everything is still brand new. Perhaps you found inspiration from HGTV or companies like Kitchenfair to create your next level space. But if you’re not careful, the condition of your kitchen could quickly go downhill. Even with regular cleaning, it can seem like any new room begins to take a downturn as soon as it has been completed. While you don’t want to become obsessed with keeping it in good condition, you also don’t want it to lose its shine. So how do you find the balance between keeping your kitchen as it is and becoming a raging kitchen inspection monster? Here’s what you need to do:

Accept That There Will Be Wear and Tear: Before you think about a cleaning routine, there’s one thing you need to accept. Your kitchen will experience ordinary wear and tear, even if you do your best to look after it. In two, five, or ten years it’s not going to look the same. It’s better to accept that now than to feel disappointed when you notice the first changes. In fact, cleaning your kitchen too much could have a negative effect on it. You don’t want to wear away any surfaces because you’re using too many cleaning products. You can keep the kitchen clean and tidy but it won’t stay perfect forever.

Clean As You Go: The number one rule of keeping your kitchen in good condition is not to put anything off. It’s so easy to think that you will do something later. Then later comes and you delay the task again because you’re busy with something else. It’s always better to clean up after yourself at the first opportunity. Wipe down the counters after you have finished preparing ingredients. You can do it while you’re waiting for your dinner to cook. Rinse the sink after you’ve done the dishes instead of waiting until later. Sweep things up from the floor as soon as you drop them. It will mean less cleaning for later and you can prevent problems such as stains.

Use the Right Products for Different Surfaces: The right cleaning products can make a huge difference to keeping your kitchen clean. You might think that they all look the same, but it’s important to note some important differences. Many products have specific formulas designed for cleaning certain materials. For example, you can get cleaning solutions for glass or metal that won’t leave streaks. If you have stone counters, make sure you look for products to clean granite and other types of stone. It’s especially important to use the right products when you have natural materials. The wrong cleaning agents might leave marks or damage a surface if you’re not careful.

Take Care of the Grouting: Some parts of your kitchen are more important to care for than others. Dirty grouting can be extremely noticeable. At least, it is until you forget what color it was meant to be in the first place. Making sure you stay on top of cleaning will help to keep your kitchen in pristine condition. It can be difficult to keep clean and sometimes the only thing for it is to give it a good scrub. To help you along, a steam cleaner is an excellent idea. The heat from the steam combined with a grouting brush attachment makes the job easier. A steam mop can help on tiled floors too. Another method is to apply bleach, leave it for a while and simply wipe it off once it has worked its magic.

Cover Every Inch: It’s easy to remember to clean the things you can see. A dirty counter stares you in the face, so you have no choice but to tackle it. However, there are plenty of hidden places that you don’t look at where dirt can be hiding. Even places like the inside of your oven or microwave are easily put out of mind. You don’t have to look at them all the time so you can forget about them. Making sure that you clean every inch of your kitchen will help you to keep it in the best condition possible. Think about those hard-to-reach places that you might not usually look at.

Manage Light Levels: There are some things you might not think of when it comes to caring for your kitchen. One of them is how much sunlight comes into your kitchen. The idea of bathing your kitchen in sunlight is an enjoyable one. However, you should try to manage the light levels, so the room doesn’t get too much sun. There may be some materials that will start to fade or even warp from too much sunlight. Hot days, in particular, could be damaging and there’s even a slight risk of fire. Putting up blinds or curtains will help to protect against direct sunlight doing any damage to material such as wood.

Be Careful When Cooking: Of course, your behavior when you use your kitchen is important, too. Some things you should do should be common sense, such as using a chopping board. Try to wipe up spills and splashes while you’re cooking, even if you’re busy with something else. You should also avoid putting any hot pans directly onto surfaces that aren’t heatproof. Make sure you place your appliances in sensible places too. Anything that creates heat or steam shouldn’t sit directly underneath a cabinet.

Perform Small Upgrades: As well as keeping everything clean, your kitchen might need some touch-ups now and then. Small upgrades to your kitchen can keep it looking like new. For example, you can change the handles on cabinets if they’re starting to look a little dull. You might choose to repaint cabinet doors or give wooden surfaces a polish. Some little tweaks can put the shine back into your kitchen when it starts to look a little tired.

Your new kitchen isn’t going to stay new forever. However, you can keep it looking beautiful if you take good care of it!

Ways To Wrap Your Mind Around New Technology

Ways To Wrap Your Mind Around New Technology

Technology is at the center of everything. With new developments happening every day, it can sometimes feel as though gadgets are taking over. But when things are advancing so fast, how can we keep up? As soon as you get the hang of one new gizmo, there’s another one to get to grips with. There’s no denying that technology has made a lot of things easier, but what do you do when you can’t get the hang of it? There’s no stopping the pace of technology but you can at least take steps to help you get to grip with things a little faster.

Instructional Videos: Presumably, the computer is one thing you are comfortable with. You found this blog post, after all! It may seem crazy to use one form of technology to help with another, but it’s a good tip. A computer can help you with an abundance of things. There is a wealth of information on the internet so it would be silly not to use it. Watching videos is a fantastic way to get the hang of new technology. There are videos on just about anything. Whether you’re struggling with a phone, a camera, or a microphone, there’s sure to be a video showing you how to use it. These videos are fantastic because they’re easy to follow and you can see the steps to take. You don’t have to worry about understanding instructions when you can watch (and rewatch!) somebody show you how.

Product Reviews: If you’re struggling with knowing which product is the right match, reviews could be a great help. It’s worth checking out thesmartcave. They have some fantastic product reviews that are sure to help you navigate the technological minefield. From phones to thermostats, they’ve got you covered. Reviews are excellent at laying out in simple terms what features a product has to offer. You don’t want all the fancy lingo and sales pitches. You just want an easy to understand lowdown of what a product can do! That’s exactly what reviews offer you.

Ask The Kids: This might sound strange, but it works! Kids are growing up in this technological age where there’s a new gadget for them to play with every week. And what’s more, they’re picking them all up extremely quickly. Kids approach technology in an entirely fearless way. Even better, they are fantastic at using it. If there’s something you’re struggling with and you know some technically minded kids, then don’t be afraid to ask for their help. A kid who started using a smartphone before they started walking will be able to set up your new Sat Nav with ease.

The trick is not to let technology overwhelm you. Even if the instruction manual makes no sense, don’t let yourself get disheartened. There is always an easier way. Use old technology to help you understand new technology. Alternatively, use those who have grown up using these confusing gadgets. Either way, persevere. With a little effort, you’ll be a technological whizz in no time!

Turn The TV Off And Spend Some Time As A Family

Turn The TV Off And Spend Some Time As A Family

TV and movie time as a family is great but getting out and being active together is even better! Here are some tips for creating some fun new memories sans the telly!

Turn The TV Off And Spend Some Time As A Family:

There’s no point shying away from the fact that technology has had a big impact on ours’ and our children’s lives. Gone are the days when kids would spend their time bike riding, climbing trees, and playing outside. Nowadays, most children prefer to spend their time watching movies or playing computer games. Of course, technology is highly beneficial and has improved our lives in a lot of ways.

However, in many ways, it has impacted family time. Making it just a little bit harder to get the quality time that as families, we need. That being said, just because technology makes it harder to have quality family time, that doesn’t mean it’s impossible. It’s just a case of coming up with ideas for spending time as a family that don’t include the TV or games consoles but are still fun and appealing to the kids.

Take a Camping Trip: One of the most exciting parts of any childhood is going on a camping trip. Kids love adventure, which is why taking a family camping trip is a great idea. The kids will be excited to spend some time out in the wilderness, a campsite, or even your own backyard; and you can look forward to spending some quality time together.

It doesn’t matter whether you go for one night or several nights, all that matters is that you’re doing something as a family. You can build campfires, roast marshmallows, and play games together. If you’re not keen on sleeping under the stars, how about going glamping instead? (My kind of camping!!) To keep the good times rolling, it is a smart idea to invest in Easy install kits for your camper so you can be connected in case of an emergency during your trip.

Start a New Family Hobby: Another way to spend some time together as a family is to start a new hobby together. This doesn’t have to be anything too time-consuming, just something that you can all do and enjoy together. Think about what yours’ and your children’s likes and dislikes are and then go from there.

Say, for example; your kids love treasure hunts and you love walking. If this is the case, Geocaching could be the ideal hobby to take up. Geocaching is where you use an app to direct you to the hidden treasure – AKA little things that other people have hidden. This may not be 100 percent technology-free but the app only acts as a map and gives you clues, it’s not the main part of the hobby. The fun part is trying to find the things that have been hidden. For kids, it’s a ton of fun and encourages them to get out of the house and be active.

Or maybe, you’re pretty handy at sewing. Why not make teaching your kids to sew your family hobby? Get your children a sewing book. Look online at the best beginner sewing machine for kids to ensure that you pick the right one. Spend some time teaching them how to sew. Sewing might be a slightly outdated hobby, but it can still be a lot of fun. Whether you’re making new clothes for dolls, Halloween costumes, or just putting some fun patches on a pair of jeans, the main idea is that you’re creating something together!

Cook Together: Reserving one night a week for a family cooking night is another possibility. Each week, spend one night cooking together as a family. This could be trying something new or it could be making simple things like pizza. It’s not about what you cook but about having some fun, getting a little messy, and teaching your kids some new culinary skills. To vamp up this idea even more, you could dedicate each week to creating a meal from a different culture. This will encourage your children to try new things as well as cultivate a sense of adventure when it comes to different foods.

Live Shows: For a change of pace in your entertainment, how about seeing a live show? From plays and musicals to concerts and magicians, it is so exciting to break away from the screen and see something in real life. Whether you are enjoying Christmas tunes like those performed in this Pigeon Forge Show or laughing away at a comedian, it is sure to create lasting memories. Perhaps every few months a member of your family could pick the entertainment outing so everyone gets a say in an event.

Pumpkin Spice & Everything Nice OOTD

Hi everyone and welcome to my fall guest bloggers series here on lifewithlilred! My absolute favorite season is fall. The fashion, the weather, holidays, and traditions – I love it all. Because summer is finally drawing to a close, I thought that it would be a perfect time to call upon a new group of guest bloggers to help me ring in the season with some of their favorite things about autumn. To kick start the series, I enlisted the help of my blogging BFF, Nida, of Shopaholic Blogs to create an OOTD that’s perfect for fall. As always, her post is amazing so check it out and enjoy:

Pumpkin Spice & Everything Nice OOTD:

🍂 Hello Everyone! Welcome to another fabulous OOTD collab between Life With Lil Red and Shopaholicblogs. When Sarah asked me about doing an autumn collab post I was thrilled because I hadn’t done an OOTD post in quite a while due to the horrendous heat wave we were having.
🍂 What I had totally forgotten was that in Dubai there is no such thing as autumn since summer is here year round with scorching temperatures and laughably short winters. Being from California I truly miss experiencing the beauty of the changing seasons. Nevertheless, I scrambled to put together an autumn appropriate look as I had promised my blogging BFF. 💟
🍂 Back home in California this is exactly how I would picture myself on a lovely day in autumn, surrounded by fallen leaves and the smell of cinnamon and pumpkin spice latte lingering in the air. ☕
🍂 So here’s presenting Shopaholicblogs take on an autumn OOTD in the desert: 🌵

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

OOTD Details:
🍂 Dress: Old Navy I love this dress. It has full sleeves which are perfect for a chilly autumn day and it has splashes of orange which is perfect for the season.
🍂 Boots: MinnetonkaThese were the very first boots I ever bought and I adore them. They are perfect for fall and winter and I love the movement and detail the fringe adds.
🍂 Leggings: Hollister –  These leggings have the perfect amount of stretch and they haven’t lost their shape despite countless washes. Plus I got them for $17 on sale!
🍂 Vest: Old Navy – This is a perfect transition piece that you can wear over a dress or Tshirt in the fall and layer it over a turtleneck in the winter.
🍂 Bag: Oryany – I love the whipstitch detail on this bag and it’s a great accessory to use year round.
🍂 Props: Pottery Barn
🍂 Accessories: American Eagle

I hope you guys enjoyed this OOTD post! Never mind the fact that it was shot in 112 degree weather! Many thanks to Sarah for this opportunity to be featured on her blog. 💞
Until next time xoxo 💋
^^^ Thank you so much again to Nida from Shopaholic Blogs for another fantastic OOTD post! What is your favorite piece of fall clothing? How do you rock a fall OOTD? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

Monday Update: This Or That Edition Update

Hi everyone and happy Tuesday! During a previous Monday Update, I asked for everyone’s opinion on what pair of glasses I should pick out between two equally gorgeous pairs. The choice was between a circular pair of Dolce & Gabbanas or a rectangular pair of Kliik Denmarks. I made my decision and received my new pair of glasses last week and I must say, I’m very happy with them! So what pair did I pick? Take a look and find out:

glasses2

THE DOLCE & GABBANAS!!!

Shocking, I know, because the majority of you guys picked the Kliik Denmarks as the pair that I should pick. So why did I go with the polar opposite? I guess I just liked how quirky the circular pair was. I liked that it made me feel professional but still fun and I loved how I could picture myself wearing them to school, my job, and my internship. And yes, I was totally enamored by the fact that they were Dolce & Gabbana. I’m really not a girl that goes gaga over labels but I do have a soft spot in my heart for designer eye-wear. It’s a weakness and a sickness, I tell ya!

All of the above reasons kind of sealed the deal for the D&Cs but one major “aha!” moment made me feel that much more confident in my decision. When I returned to the optometrist’s office after a weekend with both pairs of glasses to help make up my mind, I was wearing my old pair of specs. I’ve had my only pair of glasses since I was fifteen (I’m almost twenty-two, now) and it took trying the Kliik Denmark pair on one more time after I took my old glasses off to know that they were no longer the pair for me.

My pair of old faithfuls just so happens to be the exact same shape as the Kliik Denmarks except that the frames are thicker. I had no intentions of parting with my old pair of glasses so that I could have them as a backup pair and to wear them around the house on a lazy day. Once I saw that I would essentially be having two pairs of the same glasses but in different colors and widths, I knew that I made the right choice by picking the Dolce & Gabbanas.

The D&Cs were the first pair of glasses that I tried on after my eye appointment so it seems fitting that they ended up being the pair that I left with. I’m so happy with my new glasses and all of the compliments that I’ve received about them make me feel even more confident with my quirky cool choice!

So there you have it, an Update on a previous Monday Update: This Or That Edition! Has anyone purchased any new eye or sunglasses recently? How about a new pair of shoes or a purse? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah
