Spring Has Sprung!

Spring Has Sprung!

Hello! While there is an actual calendar date for the first day of spring, it has already sprung for me because of the bulbs and flowers popping up in my parent’s yard. My dad is an incredible gardener but, unfortunately, just had surgery for a dislocated shoulder and broken arm which means he will have to sit this gardening season out.

My family has all agreed to step in to tend to the yard and garden this spring and summer under my dad’s watch and I’m excited! I used to love helping out in the garden when I was younger and this past week as I walked around the backyard, I was delighted to see some flowers already poking out from the dried grass and leaves. Check it out:

CF2E1C02-0389-459C-B194-34FB3F09AAFD6D18CD22-B52D-4941-87D8-B97665426BC662F19395-32E0-498B-8AB5-311F1C518FC2

This has been a crazy past few weeks for my family with my dad’s injury on top of other personal matters and seeing these sunny little flowers during a beautiful day made me feel hopeful. Yellow was my grandma’s favorite color and one of mine too. She also loved planting flowers, herself, and catching sight of my dad’s crocuses and his “buttercups” as he calls them was like getting a special hello from her.

Despite the much needed transition into warm weather, things still feel so dark right now due to the pandemic. However, stepping out into the sunlight and having the first flowers of the season there to greet me put a smile on my face. It made me feel genuinely happy and I am looking forward to spending time outside with my family in the nice weather. My gardening skills might not be up to par with those of my dad but I’ll give it my best shot so he can still have his yearly flowers and veggies during his recovery. ❤

When do you feel like spring his sprung? What is your favorite flower? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

Projects To Work On As A Family

Projects To Work On As A Family

A project that you work on as a family is a wonderful bonding experience that encourages team work and improving communication skills. Projects can bring siblings closer together and help teach new things to your children. In this post, we are going to look at a few projects both big and small that will create lasting memories with your loved ones. Let’s get started:

Make Something Grow:

Now is the perfect time to start thinking about a family gardening project. It will get you out into the sunshine after a long winter indoors and you will get to enjoy the fruits (and veggies!) of your labor all spring and summer long. If you can’t all agree on what should get planted or not, each family member could be assigned with their own plot of the garden to grow what they would like.

Build A Home:

One of the ultimate family projects would have to be building a home. It is not only an exciting project but will be a great exercise in learning how to compromise when planning out each room because everyone is going to have an opinion. Have family meetings to determine the “must haves” and “nice to haves”. You can also look for inspiration together. Browse on Pinterest, binge watch HGTV, or even enter a search for “home builder in cincinnati” (or your local area) to see completed projects. You never know where you will find exactly what you are looking for!

When you have a solid idea of what you want your build to turn out like as well as your budget, consult with Toronto home builders or the experts in your area to turn your dream home into a reality.

Plan A Trip:

When it’s safer to travel again, a vacation or weekend getaway will be like the light at the end of the tunnel of this pandemic for your family. Once you agree on a location, things like restaurants and activities will have to be determined. Have each of your family members plan their ideal vacation day and do your best to make it happen. With ample time to plan, you can book your airport transportation in advance as well as find the best restaurants, activities, and local hot spots to make it the best trip ever.

Art Projects:

You don’t have to be good at art to have fun doing it and a family paint or craft night will help get you in touch with your creative sides. Paint along with Bob Ross or look for inspiration for canvas art on Pinterest. Or, maybe you could all learn a skill together like macrame, woodworking, or pottery. Creating some artwork as a family could even turn into a home decorating project next!

Learn A New Language:

Learning a different language is so beneficial and it’s a cool project to work on as a family because you will always have someone to practice with. Sign up for some classes at the library or your local community center. You can also practice on Duolingo together. Foreign film movie nights and trying to cook some of the food that is traditional to the language you are learning is a must too.

The COVID-19 pandemic is not over yet and the ideas above will give you something exciting and meaningful to do together as a family. Have fun!

Health & Safety Checklist For Your Home

Standard
Health & Safety Checklist For Your Home

Your home should always feel like a safe haven but is it really? Poor air quality, pests, clutter, and damaged appliances can all be potentially hazardous to the health and safety of yourself and family. Today, we are going to talk about a few key areas that shouldn’t be ignored when you are doing a walk through of your home. Tending to any of the issues as needed below will help give you peace of mind and make your home an even better place to be:

Appliance Repair:

Ovens, washing machines, dryers, and dishwashers that are in need of repair can be dangerous if you continue on without getting them fixed. Not only could you get hurt but the problem will become even more expensive if you let it get worse. Research the best repair services in your area and give them a call ASAP. Some professionals, like Appliance Repair Vancouver, will even offer a one year after service warranty.

Don’t forget that it’s always a good idea to get your heating and air conditioning systems checked yearly to make sure that they are functioning properly. A malfunctioning air conditioning system has the potential to cause breathing problems if it doesn’t get fixed.

Clear The Clutter:

Cluttered floors, of course, can cause one to fall and hurt themselves. Meanwhile, a really cluttered home can collect dust and dirt which creates a perfect hiding spot for pests and bugs as well as make your air quality suffer. Clean and dust your home often, take the trash out immediately, and pay extra attention to spaces on the counters and floors where crumbs can gather. Remember to sanitize things that are touched often like doorknobs, light switches, and remotes. And, as always, any type of pest problem should be solved quickly to better protect everyone in the home.

Step Up Your Security:

When walking through your home, be sure to take a look at all of your windows and doors that lead inside. Windows that can easily be pried open or a front door with a gap in it should be one of your highest priorities to fix as they provide burglars with an open invitation into your place. It is also wise to have a security system installed, which are better to have and not need than need and not have. You might also want to get any locks replaced if someone else had access to your keys.

Improve Air Quality:

While keeping a clean house and tending to any air conditioning repairs that might be needed will help improve the air quality in your home, there is still more that can be done. You could purchase an air purifier or you could simply crack a few windows during nice days or care for some indoor potted plants for natural ways to keep the air in your house cleaner. Air quality monitoring systems can also be beneficial. This is especially true if you are doing a major construction project on your home. Your home is a safe haven and that starts with fresh, clean air.

Tend to the above ideas to keep yourself and loved ones safer and healthier in your home!

Five Tips For Improving Your Home’s Security

Standard
Five Tips For Improving Your Home’s Security

Your home’s security is important not only for you but for the rest of your household. The best security will help give you and your family peace of mind and keep it as safe of a haven as possible. Try out these five tips to boost your home’s security today:

Get Your Doors & Windows Replaced/Checked Over:

Windows and doors are the vulnerable areas of your home. It’s not like the bricks and mortar where you’d need more than just your hands or a blunt object to get through it. With your doors and windows, they can easily be smashed in or compromised if they’ve got a weak lock system or you’ve had them for longer than advised.

You will want to get all of your windows and doors checked over at least once a year to make sure that they’re the best they can be. It might only take a bad bout of winter weather to really do some damage, especially if they’re old windows or doors. If you find that your doors or windows need replacing, then it’s worth looking at Provia entry doors as these can be an ideal solution for those wanting to improve security.

When considering your windows and doors, don’t forget about your gate too if you have one. This is especially important if you have a code for it that other people might know. A cell gate could be a good option for an added boost of security as it eliminates the need for a code and lets you control the gate from an app. Let’s call it a “smart gate”!

Install A Home Security System:

Home security is something to take seriously but we don’t often realize just how important it is until it has been compromised. A lot of homes nowadays have home security systems in place. This could be a simple coded alarm that you set when leaving the house or last thing at night before going to bed. It’s there so should anyone try and break-in, the alarms will go off in order for you to be alerted and the police will be called. It is something that is better to have and not need than need and not have. For better peace of mind, simply enter a search for “security system installation service in Southington, CT” (or your local area) to get a professional in to give you the tools to improve your home’s security.

Keep Valuables Out Of Sight:

Valuables are a temptation for any passersby and it seems completely innocent to leave car keys out in the open or perhaps a laptop that you’ve left on charge in the living room. However, it’s important to make sure that you hide all your valuables out of sight so that they don’t become a quick break-in and grab opportunity. It’s worth making sure you go around your property at the end of the day or before you leave in the morning to make sure that you’ve hidden away anything that might have significant value so that it’s out of sight from anyone who might pass by and see it.

Get Motion Sensor Lights Outdoors:

Motion sensor lights are a great thing to install when it comes to your property. These might be high-beams or lights that offer enough light to deter anyone from stepping further onto the property than they may have already done. They’re very easy to get and install around parts of your property. Just make sure that they are placed in the correct manner so they’re not waking up your neighbors at an ungodly hour!

Be Part Of Or Create A Neighborhood Watch:

Neighborhood watches are usually found via social media now and it’s good to be part of one so that you can keep yourself updated with all the goings-on around your area. If there isn’t one, then you could try your hand at creating one and getting your community involved in it. It will help keep others informed of any dangerous or suspicious activity that might be going on. It’s also nice to be able to get to know your neighbors as many people can tend to keep themselves to themselves. So if you’re able to, create a neighborhood watch or look for one in your local area or online.

Improving your home’s security is important and something you should actively do, wherever you are based. Even if you live in a quiet area, there’s always a danger that someone might try and break into your home. The more vulnerable you leave your home to the outside world, the more you might attract those unwanted visitors to your property.

Seahorses, Butterflies, & Toucans – Oh My!

Seahorses, Butterflies, & Toucans – Oh My!

Howdy! Having a little niece and nephew is so fun and I love spoiling them both for birthdays and Christmas. My niece, Valerie, just turned two this past week and I had a blast online shopping with TJMaxx to purchase her prezzies. Among a Paw Patrol gardening kit and a sand castle table, I couldn’t resist buying my lil future fashionista some new summer dresses. Not only were the prices for these frocks cheaper than Target or Carter’s but they are, quite possibly, the cutest things that I have ever seen and I couldn’t not share them! Check it out:

58B46A30-FC92-44AF-BE8D-6C915C4B42C95589FE43-E74D-4E90-9191-3380E5DD8A93B00B3CC0-81DA-47F3-9F5B-14FC443861B0A06D88BB-8683-40BF-93F0-D9FF27844E50B71EAFC8-CE05-4D5B-820C-6A804ACB7B1817013CAE-C156-4B49-9502-50CDFA97941B65DCD873-6265-441D-BD77-FD175C575918

All I have to say when I clothes shop for Val Gal is “where was all of this stuff when I was a baby?!” because you know I stayed rockin that Osh Kosh B’Gosh twenty something years ago lol. I thought all of these dresses were so summery and sweet and Val loves animals big and small so the patterns will go over perfectly with her! In fact, one of her favorite things in the summer time is butterfly watching with her grandpa. 🙂

The denim blue butterfly dress by Nula Bug absolutely melted my heart when I saw it during my online shopping. The pink butterfly buttons?! Stop it! I also didn’t notice in the pictures of the dress online that it has pockets so my heart melted again as soon as it arrived in the mail.

I would never pay an extravagant price for clothes for my ever growing niece and nephew and felt comfortable with what I spent at TJs. Especially because I did all of this shopping during their winter clearance sale! Shopping during the transition of seasons is a sure fire way to save some money and TJMaxx updates their sale items frequently. This is always a good thing to keep in mind if you like to do birthday or holiday shopping early, like me.

Being an aunt is the best thing ever and the past two years have been so much brighter for me because of my niece and nephew. I sure wish time would slow down, though, it feels like just yesterday when they were both born! ❤

Which stores have the best seasonal clearance? Who is your favorite person to shop for? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

How To Save Money & Stress When Moving

How To Save Money & Stress When Moving

We all know the cliche about moving house being one of the most stressful and expensive things you can ever do. But those negatives aren’t necessarily as inevitable as you might think they are. There are so many ways in which you can reduce the costs associated with moving to your new McArthur Homes property, while also making the process as minimally stressful as it can be. And that’s exactly what we’re going to talk about today. Read on and benefit from these tips:

Plan Your Move Around Your Work Schedule (And Plan In General!):

If you can schedule the day of the move for a time when you’re not going to be working or when you can book paid leave from your job, that’s the right thing to do from a financial standpoint. People often think about the fees and costs of moving to a new home, but the money you lose by being forced to take unpaid time away from work is something that also shouldn’t be ignored.

Declutter Before the Move:

Your move will be a lot less stressful for you if you can take the time to declutter your property beforehand. Spending time, energy, and money moving things that you don’t even want or need is pointless from an efficiency and financial point of view. By clearing out your property today and simply getting rid of the things that you really don’t need anymore, you’ll be able to avoid that level of wasted resources.

Try to Move Off-Season if Possible:

The costs associated with moving differ depending on the time of year. If you want to move in summer when everyone else is also trying to move house, you’re going to face higher demand and competition for people looking to secure the services of good movers and solicitors. The process will also be longer as well as more expensive because of the delays caused by that high demand for the necessary professional services. We suggest entering a search for “movers St Anthony” (or your local area) as soon as you have a time frame of when you would like to move, be that on or off season. This will give you ample time to get quotes, read reviews, and find the best moving company for you.

See if You’re Entitled to Any Discounts:

When looking to secure the help of moving professionals, you should take the time to see if you’re entitled to any discounts often offered by those kinds of services. For example, people over a certain age level, students, and people who have served in the military or government agencies are very often entitled to discounted services. It’s a great way to save money, so don’t miss out if you’re entitled.

Work with Reliable Professionals:

Working with reliable moving professionals who are going to be able to make the move as smooth for you as it can be will make your life a lot less stressful. The right moving professionals have the knowledge and experience necessary, which will help alleviate some of your worries. Whether you are using movers charlotte nc, or a similar removal firm in your area, this will help make this task easier.

Reliability is so important for every aspect of your moving team. From real estate agents, those assisting with loans, or home builders in st louis (or your local area), you will want the highest recommended professionals to help you. It’s amazing how much time and money you can save when you have a solid team.

Source Free Packing Materials:

Sourcing packing materials is one of the best ways out there to save money. If you’re paying for boxes and tape and all of the other wrapping and protective materials you need, you’ll be wasting money. All of that stuff is out there and you can usually get your hands on it very cheaply. Ask around because everyone has boxes that they no longer need after their own house move. Better still, find a moving company that offers this stuff at no extra cost to you.

Saving yourself stress and time when moving house is essential to making the experience a more positive one. Get started with the tips above so you can focus your attention on the more pressing matters of your move.

Buying A Horse? Consider The Following

Standard
Buying A Horse? Consider The Following

Often, the elegance of a horse attracts horse owners: it is the most common reason people have when starting a horse farm or purchasing a horse. The excitement of owning a horse may shift your focus from being a good owner, though, and you need to consider the time, effort, and essential care items before you make any decisions.

If you are a first-time owner, be sure to research and consult the experts before committing your resources extensively. For experienced owners, it may be a walk in the park. However, do not take anything for granted as every horse is unique, and you should treat it as so.

Time Commitment:

Brace yourself – taking care of a horse is quite involving so you will need to have extra time and then some to make sure all of its needs are met. It is a time-consuming task that needs constant and quality work so that you can learn and bond with your horse. You will need to take care of its nutrition (what and how to feed the horse), grooming, stables, riding, and vet check ups. It may seem like a complex maze that will scare you off. But you only need to learn the basics of horse-owning, and you will be good to go. However, you should always be willing to learn more about your horse.

Intelligence:

Every horse has a unique character that you need to learn and create a connection with. Horses usually know how to connect with the rider and the owner by clicking with your emotions. It will be easier to take the cues from the horse if you spend time with it. You also have to know how best to take care of the horse during the different seasons as required. Similarly, the horse can also play a significant role in maintaining your happy mood through equine therapy.

Beauty and Quality:

The beauty of a horse requires a stable of equal measure. You need to design and provide the horse with adequate necessities properly. It would be best if you used your interactions with the horse to consider the designs that will be most fitting. Get in touch with your “horse personality” and choose the best stable from your pole barn builders.

You can visit several horse farms or barns to familiarize yourself with styles that you might like. Remember, your stable is a safe space for your horse and it should be treated as such. When you work with equestrian professionals like Scotts of Thrapston, they will create a stable that has everything needed as well as being aesthetically pleasing. Have a list ready of your “must haves” before consulting with builders.

Safety:

You should always ensure that you provide a safe environment for your horse. Observe hygiene and good horse nutrition to keep them healthy and happy. You might also want to include natural remedies into their routine to boost hoof health, decrease anxiety, and reduce muscle inflammation. Be sure to rid the area of unnecessary clutter like blankets that may be harmful. To keep the horses fit, be sure to include riding in the green fields or the woods.

Horses are majestic and intelligent animals that need lots of love and care. Make sure you are willing to put in the time, effort, commitment, and passion for a joyful and healthy horse before going forward – they deserve it.

Rebuilding A Relationship With An Estranged Family Member

Standard
Rebuilding A Relationship With An Estranged Family Member

Families can be difficult and, sometimes, you’re going to argue. Usually, disagreements get forgotten and things go back to normal but that isn’t always the case as some families might end up splitting apart and not speaking, potentially for years. Dealing with estranged family members can be incredibly difficult and many people feel as though they want to keep things as they are and not speak to those people ever again.

However, even though you feel like that in the heat of the moment, it’s something that you could come to regret later on. Many people find that when they become parents and they start thinking about the importance of family, they want to rebuild those relationships before it’s too late. If you have an estranged family member and you want to reconnect with them, here are some important things to keep in mind:

Forgive Them For The Past:

If you are searching for an estranged family member because you feel like you’ve got a score to settle, things are never going to work out. It’s important that you forgive them for the past before you reconnect with them so you are going into this process with a positive mindset. Many people are estranged from loved ones that have been in legal trouble, for example. If this is the case, you need to deal with the practical elements, like how to search for an inmate and set up a visit, but you also need to find a way to forgive them for the mistakes they made in the first place. If you are not ready to put the past behind you, meeting up with estranged family members will only make things worse for both of you.

Establish Clear Boundaries:

Putting clear boundaries in place will help you rebuild the relationship slowly and avoid conflict. You should make your boundaries clear from the beginning and what those boundaries are depends on the relationship and the reason for it breaking down. To start, you may tell them that you won’t tolerate lying if that was a big issue before. Sometimes, you may also need practical boundaries in place about what time they can call you or how often you will see one another. The whole process will be much easier if everybody has clear expectations from the beginning.

Maintain Other Family Relationships:

When you rekindle a relationship with a family member that you haven’t spoken to for years, it feels like you have to make up for a lot of lost time. It’s common for people to throw themselves into that relationship and neglect other family members without even realizing it. It’s important that you are aware of this and you take the time to do fun activities with the family and spend quality time with your partner so they don’t feel like this new relationship has taken over everything else.

These are all important things to consider but the main thing you need to remember is that you must be patient. Healing old wounds takes time, but as long as you don’t push it, your relationship can mend.

Tend To The Following To Breathe Better In Your Home

Standard
Tend To The Following To Breathe Better In Your Home

If you’ve ever had to think about what areas in your home could be damaging to your health, your first thought might be the pantry or refrigerator – the places where we keep our sweet treats and unhealthy snacks. However, there are some arguably more unhealthy areas in our homes that are a bigger cause for concern. Neglect in the following four examples all has the potential to cause breathing problems to develop over time so it is important to know what they are and how you can minimize the problem:

The Insulation:

Typically, we won’t spot insulation problems since, thanks to our heaters, they don’t really impact the temperature of our homes too much. However, bad insulation can mean paying over the odds energy bills to make up for the fact that without heat, we’d be freezing cold. But high energy bills are the least of our worries. Using heating systems all of the time can mean overheating the interiors of our homes which can cause a whole host of issues due to dry air and can impact our hair, sinuses, and skin.

Our AC Systems:

We rely so much on our AC systems for heat and air to keep our temperatures regulated throughout the year. But did you know that they can actually be making us sick? Not cool. When they break, you’re going to want to call a 24 hour AC repair place to get you back on track as having a broken, malfunctioning, or dirty AC system can make you sick. You might suffer from breathing issues, bad skin, headaches, and fatigue frequently. If this is the case, you should get your AC system checked out before symptoms get worse. You can look into a professional team like those at Platinum Air Heating & Cooling or a similar business in your local area to assess and repair the situation. Once the experts fix the problem, you will certainly be breathing easier.

Air Pollution in the Home:

The air inside your home isn’t clean.

‘But I dust and clean every day!’ you might be saying, however, in spite of this, there are still tiny particles making the air dirty floating around even if you live far away from polluted cities. Cooking smoke, cleaning products, and indoor stuffiness can impact on the cleanliness of the home. Use certain indoor plants and air purifiers to help to eliminate the issue and to improve the quality of the air in the home.

Clutter:

Having excess clutter can be a nightmare for our mental health as we struggle with the ample extra time at home during the COVID-19 pandemic. Highly cluttered spaces not only gather dust but can also attract pests and bugs who will have plenty of places to hide. Both of these instances can be dangerous to your respiratory health.

There are many things that you could be doing to improve your quality of life in the home and the quality of the air seems like a perfect place to start, doesn’t it?
