NYX Fireball Eyeshadow Swatches

Hello everyone and happy first day of August! So as you guys know, I’m not the biggest makeup girl in the world. I am the most undaring, untalented makeup applier that there is – and the thing is, is that I don’t really care. Makeup is and always has been my older sister’s territory. She’s absolutely phenomenal at all manners of makeup application and has been since we were teenagers.

Kristen loves to shop at Sephora and lives for her monthly Ipsy subscription. Meanwhile, I live for her semi annual makeup clean throughs so I can get the odds and ends that she doesn’t want. Kristen’s makeup clear outs can rid products that she might have doubles of, doesn’t care for, or is simply bored with. This is how I acquired an NYX eyeshadow that she got from her Ipsy subscription that I’m looking forward to trying. Take a look at Fireball:

^^^ Lol AYYY. And as always I have no rights to this song or video!

fb1fb2

^^^ The first heart is the eyeshadow dry and the second one is when it’s wet, which is how I prefer wearing my shadows.

I was a bit worried when this NYX eyeshadow came into my possession, because with a name like Fireball, you’d expect for the color to be fairly red. And the color does look it in its container. But, upon applying it to the back of my hand, I was pleasantly surprised to see that the color was a far cry from the Fireball red that I was expecting. Rather, it looked more like a rusty bronze – which I LOVE.

Fifty shades of bronze/gold is my preferred eye makeup color. I love how it looks with my skin, eyes, and hair and I feel like it’s a shade that looks good on everyone. When this NYX shade is dry, it has more of that orange-y bronze look to it. But while wet, it gives a gorgeous, metallic, rose gold aura and I live for it. It takes me a minute to warm up to trying a new shade of makeup – at twenty-three, I’m just now growing comfortable with experimenting more while painting my face. But, when the time is right, I’m totally hyped for this NYX eyeshadow to make its debut!

So there you have it, my NYX Fireball Eyeshadow Swatches! What is your preferred makeup brand? What is your favorite color of eyeshadow to wear? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

July 2017 Finishes

July 2017 Finishes

Hi everyone and TGIF! My goodness, the months are just flying by, which brings us to another wrap up post for all of the beauty goodies that I used during July. This month brought to an end some products that I’ve been using for what seems like forever as well as some short lived lotions that were still enjoyable, just the same. Take a look at my July Finishes and let’s discuss:

2017f.jpeg

Would I Use Again?

  • Bath & Body Works Beach Nights lotion: YES
  • The Body Shop Satsuma Body Puree: YES
  • Destiny Boutique Charcoal face wash: YES
  • The Body Shop Vitamin C Skin Boost: YES
  • The Body Shop Amazonian Acai Energizing Radiance Mask: NO
  • Too Faced Better Than Sex mascara: YES

Why/Why Not?

B&BW Lotion: You guys all know that I love me some Bath & Body Works so, of course, this lotion was no exception. I got this full sized lotion as a freebie months ago and just now got around to using it and am so glad that I did! The Beach Nights scent smells amazing!! It literally smells like vanilla mixed in with the crisp sea breeze scent of the ocean and marshmallows roasted over a big bonfire. It’s absolutely delicious. A fair warning, though, – the lotion is quite pungent. I never wear lotion unless it’s at night, but even if I were a day time wearer, this would be my last choice to use. It took me about six full body uses to finish this product.

TBS Body Puree: I looooooove all things Satsuma from The Body Shop. To me, it is the most divine citrus scent on the market and I am always so happy when I can snag some of its energizing deliciousness. I would never buy The Body Shop bath and body care products from there because the prices are absurd, but when TJMaxx is stocked with their items, it’s hard not to indulge! I got this lotion for four bucks and it was such a wonderful treat. The Body Purees are so much lighter than a normal lotion – it feels like using a lush, aquatic gel and it feels so nice on the skin. The Purees also absorb almost instantly, which is another amazing touch! It took me about seven full body uses to finish this product.

Destiny Boutique Face Wash: Destiny Boutique is a brand that I discovered through TJMaxx that I freaking love. I am obsessed with all things charcoal and loved using their charcoal face bar so much that it seemed silly to not buy their cleanser. This face wash was well worth the ten dollar price tag as it took me OVER FIVE MONTHS to finish it. Every day, this cleanser left my skin feeling fresh, clean, and blackhead free – which is a fantastic way to feel! I’m so happy that I have another one of these washes in my hoard for another five months of beauty bliss!

TBS Skin Boost: I don’t need to explain my love for this product anymore, you guys already know all about it! It took me over two and a half months of daily use to finish my Vitamin C Skin Boost from The Body Shop.

TBS Face Mask: I really enjoy using face masks but, unfortunately, this Amazonian Acai Energizing Radiance Mask from The Body Shop really missed the mark. In its title, this mask has everything that I look for when selecting a product – something invigorating that provides bright radiance to the skin. This mask did none of that and my skin was left looking and feeling no different after about a month and a half of using it two times per week. The product smelled lovely, but it was far from effective. Whomp whomp.

Too Faced Mascara: I rarely write about makeup finishes during my monthly empties posts, but this mascara is a different story. Too Faced’s Better Than Sex mascara has been a complete game changer to my makeup routine. My sister got me hooked on the stuff and after using this mascara for close to FOUR MONTHS, I had to get more to feed my addiction!

This mascara is AMAZING. It does for my lashes what using multiple different tubes of mascara during my routine couldn’t even come close to doing. Better Than Sex gives you gorgeous fanned out, jet black, lush, plush lashes that stay in place but still feel soft to the touch. There is literally nothing better and I am so willing to shell out the twenty-three dollar price tag for a mascara that does what the classic drug store brands can’t. It’s worth every penny and then some.

Besides for my face mask from The Body Shop, July was a very successful month for my finishes. I am so happy with the empties that I did like and would happily purchase them again in a heart beat!

So there you have it, my July 2017 Finishes! Which beauty products did you finish up for the month? Has anyone used any of my empties before? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

9 Simple Self Care Changes That Make A Big Impact

9 Simple Self Care Changes That Make A Big Impact

Having a soothing evening of self care is something that everyone enjoys. A little bit of TLC can make a world of difference with how you feel. Here are some of the best ways to relax and refresh your mind and body:

A long, hot bath: This time may be difficult to achieve if you have young children, but if you do get the chance to have a long soak in the tub, then snap it up. Light some candles, switch the main light off, pour yourself a glass of your favorite drink, and dollop a large amount of bubble bath into the tub. Let the hot water and amazing aromas take you away from the stresses of life for a little while.

Another great thing to do when taking a bath, is adding some pink Himalayan salt to your water. It has incredible health benefits, especially in the realms of skin care. You’ll come out feeling relaxed and your skin will feel super soft thanks to the exfoliating properties of the salt.

nine

 Those nails!

Face masks: Another great way to treat your skin is to slap on a face mask, cut some slices of cucumber, and relax for ten or so minutes. Your skin will feel refreshed and supple and hopefully the cucumbers will have eliminated those tired bags from under your eyes.

One downside of face masks, is that the first few times that you use them, you may break out in acne. This is your body expelling the dirt underneath your skin. Always remember to make sure that you’re using a mask that is safe for your face. Check out beautyproductwarnings.com for the best advice on skin care and products.

Meditation is a fabulous way of unwinding from your day. Put some relaxing music on, sit comfortably, and breathe deeply. With each exhale of air, push out any worries or complications that you’ve had that day. Once you feel calm and relaxed, you can continue to enjoy the rest of your evening.

Similar to meditation, hypnosis can also work wonders with relieving stress. You simply pop some headphones in and listen. Make sure that you’re comfortable and let the recording take you away. Hypnosis can be great for people with anxiety or people who struggle to sleep. Michael Sealey’s YouTube account is a fantastic example of the hypnosis that you might want to look for.

 R&R

Time to yourself: Having a small amount of time to yourself is underrated. You may adore your partner and children but taking some time to just be yourself is incredible for the mind. Letting it all hang out (ayyy!) on the sofa in front of the TV is all some people need to rejuvenate.

Foot spa: You might not have a fancy foot spa at home, but there are other ways that you can treat your feet for next to no cost at all. Get yourself a bucket and fill it just under halfway with warm water (the heat you would use for a bath). Be sure to add some bubbles and maybe a drop of lavender oil into the water. Sit yourself down with a book or while watching TV and pop your feet into the bucket. You will feel relaxed almost instantly. Be sure to hit the pumice stone and lotion after!

Manis & Pedis are another great way of treating yourself. You don’t necessarily have to do this at home, either. Take yourself to your favorite salon and enjoy some pampering. Plus, with the amount of wonderful designs that you can choose for your nails these days, you will walk away looking absolutely fabulous.

Dye your hair: Doing this can make you feel like a whole new person. Your hair will look shiny and full of life again and you can even cover up those evil greys(!). Be careful not to over-dye your hair, though, as this can be very damaging to your scalp and locks. Be sure to also get regular trims if you dye your hair as split ends are easily formed.

nine3

 Pamper party!

Have a beauty evening with your girls: Invite the girls over for some drinks and giggles and ask them to bring their makeup bags. You can gossip and put the world to rights while doing each other’s makeup. It’s a great way of relaxing and afterwards, you will be ready to hit the town!

One thing to remember with using makeup is to not ruin your skin by caking it unnecessarily. Take a look at the best way to apply foundation and the routine you should adopt before applying it.

Spend alone time with your SO: It’s likely that you’ve both had a mega hectic day and have barely seen each other. Take the time at least once a week to cook a meal together and sit at the table with no distractions. Talking through your day or week with your loved one can relieve stress and anxiety, and it will also stop any distancing between you as a couple. Grab some wine and make it romantic. There’s nothing wrong with keeping the spark alive in your relationship, even if you’ve been together for many years.

#datenight

We all have to work hard in life to get what we want, but we also need to take care of ourselves in the process. Take time at least once a week to do one of these things and you will start to notice the difference in how you feel. Also, pampering and self-care will not only make you feel better, but look better too. It’s a win-win situation!

Beat Clogged Pores For Good

Beat Clogged Pores For Good

Your skin has a lot to contend with. Every day it is battling the likes of pollution, sweat, and pore-clogging makeup. So, it is of little surprise that our pores end up clogged and blackheads start to form. If you want this to stop happening, you are going to need to put some work in. But, of course, it is totally worth it! With that in mind, read on to discover some top tips on beating clogged pores once and for all:

WHY DO PORES GET CLOGGED?

Before we take a look at a number of amazing and effective ways to unclog your pores, it is important to understand what’s going on with your skin. Why are your pores clogged?

Those with oily skin tend to suffer from clogged pores. The natural oil you produce is known as sebum. People with acne-prone or oily skin types produce more sebum, which can lead to clogged pores, and results in pimples and blackheads. Sometimes it can even cause cysts because of inflammation.

But, clogged pores do not only impact those that have oily skin. They can also occur when dead skin sheds off naturally and then gets clogged inside of the pore. A lot of people with acne tend to shed dead skin cells at a higher rate, which leads to a bigger problem with clogged pores.

Have you noticed pores that are raised, creating a bump on the skin? A lot of people experience this. It occurs because acne bacteria feeds off sebum. Bacteria then excretes waste once it has fed on your skin’s natural oil. This waste causes pore inflammation, and makes it bigger. If a pore becomes very large, it can break through the pore wall. This is how an acne cyst forms, as it causes an inflammatory reaction.

Of course, pores also get clogged due to makeup use, as well as pollution and bad habits. It is not difficult to see how dirt gets lodged into the skin when it is up against so much.

WHAT TO DO ABOUT IT:

Choose your skincare products wisely: There are so many skincare products on the market today that actually make the problem worse. You should always select natural skin creams and oils, as other products are filled with chemicals, which are not good for your skin. They strip the skin of the essential nutrients and moisture that it needs. You should also choose products that are naturally lightweight like Babassu oil. Unlike coconut oil, Babassu oil will not clog your pores because it is so lightweight. This is great for those with oily skin or who are prone to acne. Babassu oil will absorb into your skin quickly, making it soft and radiant, without leading to unwanted breakouts or an oily appearance. A lot of people don’t consider the consistency of a product when they are purchasing it, but if you choose thick creams and oils, they are only going to clog your pores further.

While you can typically find a nice selection of skin care at drugstores, they might not be potent enough if your issue is severe. For example, accutane for skin conditions like severe acne can be used but would need to be prescribed by your dermatologist. It is wise to schedule an appointment if your condition is not clearing up with your beauty regimen so you can explore other options.

Exfoliate: To lift dry skin cells and impurities, it is important to exfoliate the face with a small brush. Combine this with moisturizing masks and cleansing, and you will improve the overall condition of your skin while dealing with your clogged pores.

Use a charcoal mask: No doubt you have seen the many Instagram posts of celebrities advertising charcoal masks. This is one social media craze that is worth getting hyped about. Activated charcoal is heaven sent for complexions that are congested. It attracts toxins, and it will absorb up to 200 times its weight in impurities. So, this is a great way to draw out all of the pollutants, excess oil, and other waste material that is trapped inside of your pores.

Use a toner after washing: To remove residual oils and dead skin cells on the skin, you should use a toner after washing. If you have oily skin, achieving smooth and balanced skin is easier if you opt for a toner that contains witch hazel. This will remove all of the dirt lodged in your skin without drying it out too much.

Steam your skin: This is a great way to open up the pores on your face. You should fill a bowl with boiling water, and then angle your face so that the steam rises up and over your skin. Don’t get so close that you burn yourself – you don’t need to be a millimeter from the surface of the water in order to feel the effects of the steam! After you have done this, you should pat your face dry and relax for a few seconds. Use a toner and finish off with a moisturizer to complete the process.

Pore strips: Pore strips have been around for quite some time now, and they really can get the job done. They are made with selective bonding agents, which act like a magnet. They will attract all of the dirt that is deep down in your pores, lifting it away, so you have fresh and soft skin.

Know your skin type: Earlier, we mentioned the importance of choosing skincare products wisely, and knowing your skin type plays an important role in this. If you have oily skin and you are using makeup and beauty products that are designed for dry skin, you are only going to make the matter worse.

Try a DIY solution: There are many DIY solutions that you can use in order to unclog your pores for radiant, luscious skin. One of the easiest options is to raid your fruit bowl once or twice a week. Lemons are great for unclogging pores, as the citric acid acts as an exfoliator. If you cut a lemon in half, and rub it over your skin, it will clear out any oil or dirt that is residing. Let the lemon juice stand for around five minutes, and then rinse it off with lukewarm water.

You could also create a baking soda scrub to get rid of the pesky pollution stuck in your skin. Standard household baking soda is the perfect product for creating a really straightforward pore cleanser with gentle exfoliation qualities. All you need to do is mix one teaspoon of water with two teaspoons of baking soda. This should result in a paste-like consistency. Massage the paste into your skin, using circular motions. Again, leave this mixture on your face for around five minutes, after which you can wash it off. It is advisable to do this once a week, as it will leave the skin feeling balanced and get rid of all of the dead skin cells.

Remove your makeup: We are all guilty of getting home late and falling asleep straight away with a face full of makeup! However, if you want to unclog your pores, this needs to stop. Just think of all of the dirt and makeup that is getting into your skin while you sleep with a face full of products. Get into the habit of removing your makeup as soon as you walk through the door, and also make sure that you use a deep cleanser every day.

Use products that contain grapeseed oil: Grapeseed oil offers many benefits, from preventing acne to anti-aging. It is also great for unclogging pores. This is because it contains linoleic acid and vitamin E, which allows the oil to act naturally as an antioxidant and anti-inflammatory.

Use powder foundation instead of liquid: Because oily skin is the root cause of a lot of clogged pores, it is a good idea to ease off of the liquid foundation and opt for a powdered version instead. You could also try CC and BB creams, or even a tinted moisturizer. All of these options are better because they have a lighter formula, which is much better than letting a heavy product sit on your face.

Consider non-ablative laser treatment: Laser treatment is well known to blast scars and treat acne, but it can also help to shrink the appearance of pores, too. Each light pulse will refine and smooth while encouraging collagen. Collagen will create a more flawless look by plumping the skin. The laser can rejuvenate areas on the chin, nose, and eyebrows, which are prone for larger pores, making them appear smaller. This will help you to battle clogged pores in the future, as your skin should not be as susceptible to the issue.

When nothing else will work, consider extraction: If you have tried all of the tips mentioned above, and you are still having no luck with your pores, consider seeing a professional. For many years, we have been warned against picking our skin, yet professional extraction is the only exception. A dermatologist will be able to carry out this procedure. They will know what pores can be treated, and what pores need to be left alone. This is important because it ensures that your skin does not get worse or become irritated.

Clogged pores do not need to be a problem that you simply accept. There are many different ways that you can treat the issue, leaving your skin smooth and radiant, and your confidence sky high.

Creating A Solid Foundation – On Your Face!

Standard
Creating A Solid Foundation – On Your Face!

Modern foundation is a far cry from the clumpy, cakey foundation our mothers used to wear, but you would hardly know it sometimes due to the fact that so few of us know how to really do our foundation well. If you’re a foundation fan, and you want to avoid the caked-on face and look as flawless as a cover model, here are some simple makeup artist approved tips to help you do your foundation like a pro:

Find The Perfect Match: First and foremost, if you want your foundation to look good, you need to choose the right product. To test the color of foundation, you should apply a sample to the jawline. If the color blends in and cannot be distinguished from the rest of your skin, you know you’ve got it right.

As well as choosing the right color, you will want to use the right type of foundation for your skin. For example, matte products work better for oily skin, while drier skin may benefit from a dewy finish. To find out more about choosing the right foundation for your skin type, continue reading on soundbodylife.com. It might also be a good idea to try out a few samples or speak to a beauty adviser to find the perfect match.

Prepare Your Skin: You should never put foundation on your face without first cleaning and moisturizing it. Let the moisturizer sink into your skin for 3-5 minutes and then you can add a primer if you need your makeup to last all day or if you have very visible pores. If not, you can skip that and apply your foundation directly to your face.

Use The Right Tools: You might be surprised to know that makeup artists advise applying foundation with the tips of the fingers for a light coverage look. If you want to achieve a higher level of coverage, using a sponge or Beautyblender, which you can read more about at http://www.goodhousekeeping.com/beauty/makeup/g3711/how-to-use-beauty-blender-tips/ is advised. Throw out that brush right now and see your foundation improve!

Apply Concealer Last: If, like many women, you always apply your concealer before your foundation, you’re doing it wrong! The experts say that it’s better to apply it after foundation because then you won’t end up using too much. Makeup artists also advise using a concealer that is just one shade lighter than your skin. Doing it this way will help to prevent reverse panda eyes – not a good look.

Use A Luminous Powder: If you’ve been avoiding face powder because you think it gives you a dull, lifeless finish, then you obviously haven’t tried out luminous powder, which is perfect for reflecting the light and giving you a radiant glow. The trick is to apply the translucent powder in a ‘W’ shape starting from your left hairline, sweeping to the right. Hello, bright and pretty skin!

Less Is More: One final tip when it comes to foundation, concealer, powder, or any makeup really, is that less is more and by applying only the bare minimum that you need, you will always get that professional look you’re after.

A gorgeous makeup look starts with a strong foundation on your face! Try out these tips next time you’re doing your makeup for a picture perfect appearance.

Battle Of The Sexes: How Men And Women Get Ready

Standard
Battle Of The Sexes: How Men And Women Get Ready

You’re going out. Maybe it’s date night, or perhaps an evening out with friends to celebrate a special occasion. Both you and your boyfriend have agreed what time you need to leave; you have to be out of the door by 8 PM/8:15 at the very, very latest.

So the clock starts ticking. *Que Jeopardy theme*

vss.pngClocks can’t rush perfection. 😉

6 PM; You: “I guess I better start thinking of what I’m going to wear…”

You head to your closet and start inspecting literally everything that you own. Of course, none of it is acceptable; a closet full of gorgeous clothing but nothing that you’re enthused about wearing. You try on a few outfits, but none of them seem to be the right look for the night.

6 PM; Boyfriend: “Oh that’s right, we’re going out.”

And then promptly forgets about it, continuing on with the task he was doing beforehand. SMH.

6:30 PM; You: “What are you wearing?”

Having finally decided on your own outfit, you decide it’s probably a decent idea to make sure your boyfriend isn’t going to clash. You track him down and ask what he’s wearing.

6:30 PM; BF: “I haven’t really thought about it, to be honest.” (Typical.)

He doesn’t panic, though. It’s pretty simple for men; pants and some kind of shirt will suffice for the vast majority of occasions. He’s sure something is clean. He looks puzzled when you mention the idea of color clashing (What does that even mean?!).

6:45 PM; You: “Getting my groom on.” AYYY

You head to the bathroom to begin the process of getting ready. It’s actually one that you quite like, so you’re happy to spend some time going through the familiar motions of preparing yourself for the world.

You shower. You moisturize. You brush leave-in conditioner through your hair. You wrap your hair in a towel (which you boyfriend proclaims to be “witchcraft, when it’s really just strategically placed tucks and folds). You’re ready for phase two.

7 PM; BF: “Oh, I guess I should shower, as well, shouldn’t I?”

Reminded only by the fact that you’ve showered, he hops into the bathroom himself and does his routine. It’s a bit shorter than yours; shower, shave, a little bit of manscaping, aftershave, and then he’s good to go. He heads to get dressed.

7 PM -7.30; You: “Primer, foundation, concealer, eyeshadow…”

You know the motions of getting ready by now and the routine is smooth and simple. It takes a while – don’t worry, even women with the steadiest of hands aren’t able to apply eyeliner flawlessly on the first attempt – but you know that you’ve got time. With your makeup done, all you need to do is put your pre-chosen outfit on and do your hair. Job done. Well, nearly.

7:30 PM; BF: “I really did think I had something clean…”

After a panicked look through his entire wardrobe, he finally alights on an outfit that looks presentable. He’s ready.

7:45 PM; You: “Are you sure this looks okay?”

Still preening in the mirror, you’ve suddenly taken wildly against the outfit that you selected less than two hours prior. (It happens to the best of us.)

7:50 PM; BF: “Yes it’s fine. You look fine. Great. Can we go?”

8 PM; Both Of You: Finally ready, you head out of the door for your night out. You might have taken different routes to get to this point, but you got there in the end and that’s all that matters!

vss1

Looking good feeling great.

Everyone has a different getting ready routine and as long as you get from Point A to Point B on time, you can’t really complain about your SO’s totally annoying pre date night process! 😉

The Many Virtues Of The Rose Gold Makeup Look

Standard
The Many Virtues Of The Rose Gold Makeup Look

If you’re shopping around for a new look, then we think we’ve found it. Well, actually, we didn’t find it – it’s been around for a while and has been especially used by makeup artists, but it’s finally come across our radar and now we’re ready to share with the world. We’re talking about rose gold makeup, which you can find just about everywhere: on the red carpet, the high street, in the clubs…everywhere ritzy and glamorous, that is. And that’s not all: this makeup is for everyone. That’s right: this makeup is transcending looks, financial status, job. Uniting the world with makeup…we like that idea!

The Virtues:

If you’ve never used rose gold makeup before, then don’t worry: we’re pretty confident that there will be a perfect match for you. In fact, this is one of its main benefits. It’s flattering, warm, romantic, and perhaps, best of all, it’s different. Far from traditional, it’ll make you stand out at any event where you rock this look. It also isn’t too much of any one color. It’s not too gold, not silver. It’s the Goldilocks of the makeup world, essentially and it’s fabulous, darling.

In Style:

If Pinterest is anything to go by, (And why it shouldn’t it be?!), then rose gold makeup is the style that everybody is clamoring for at the moment. Searches for this style of makeup has been up 190% over the last year. If you want to be part of a new wave of makeup that’ll shake up dance floors and events across the world this summer, it’s time to check out the best makeup tutorials and join all of the others who have fallen in love with this makeup style.

Celebrity Use:

Okay, we all know that it’s not the Average Joe on the street who can really send a makeup popularity soaring: it’s the celebrities on the red carpet. These superhumans, who usually look like a million dollars at the worst of times, take it to a new level when they hit the red carpet in their rose gold best. Of course, these celebrities don’t do the makeup themselves: they get their makeup artists to do it. Armed with RCMA makeup, they make their famous clients look their absolute best when they’re in front of the cameras. And with the right makeup in your bag, you can have the celebrity look, too.

A Face For Everyone:

Another reason for the ever increasing popularity of rose gold makeup is that it suits all face shapes. Whatever style your face happens to be, you’ll be able to play around with rose gold makeup styles and find the look that’s right for you. So perfect!

Getting The Best:

Of course, when it comes to makeup, it pays to do some research as to which products are worth investing in. You’ll want to make sure that you’re getting makeup that will look great when it’s applied to your face. If you buy the right products, then it’ll all come to your individual skills. You don’t have to go at it alone, however: check out some of the best beauty blogs and get a helping hand when it comes to getting the look that’s right for you.

How To Wear:

There are many ways to wear the rose gold makeup look. What will you choose? You can add a subtle but striking dash to your eyelids, let your lips do all of the talking by adding a rose gold lipstick to your lips, or give yourself a metallic glow by adding the color to the cheeks. This is one of the best things about the style: it’s versatile. You could go for the same color three days in a row but, if they were applied to different parts of the face, you’d have three completely different, though equally classy, looks.

Going Further:

It’s not just in makeup bags that rose gold is taking over. You can also change your look by having a rose gold hairstyle. There have been plenty of celebrities adopting this look in recent times, including Lady Gaga, Rita Ora, and Kate Hudson. That’s a pretty impressive list of beauties who thought it was the look worth going for!

Conclusion:

Clearly, with infinite virtues, celebrity endorsements, and quality makeup products available, it looks like the rose gold style is here to stay for the foreseeable future. Start playing around now and join the movement, you beautiful metallic GODDESS!!!!

First Sephora Purchase!!

Standard
First Sephora Purchase!!

Hi everyone and TGIF! Yesterday my sister and I went to the mall and I *gasp* bought something from Sephora! I really wasn’t expecting to or planning on it. Really. But it happened and I can’t say that I’m too upset about it! It only seems fitting that my First Sephora Purchase would be a red lipstick (yes, I’m obsessed), so take a look and let’s discuss:

seph2seph3seph4

Urban Decay Metallized lipstick in Wrath

So, yeah. Like I said, I really wasn’t planning on buying anything – let alone a seventeen dollar lipstick. But, damnit, I just couldn’t help myself. IT’S SO PRETTY! As you guys know, I just bought myself a new lipstick with glitter in it but that doesn’t mean that I wasn’t still in love with metallic shades, either. This Urban Decay shade spoke to me on a spiritual level and I desperately needed it in my life.

The purchase of this lipstick was a bit of an emotional rollarcoaster, because there were no tubes of Wrath to buy behind the tester. Just my luck. Frankly, I wouldn’t have been all that disappointed if they were all out, but still – I really liked it. I asked one of the employees if they might have any more and she legit searched for five minutes and with every passing second I could feel my heart sink lower and lower.

BUT MY LUCK TURNED AROUND because she finally found my new lipstick and at that point, I couldn’t not buy it! Guys. This shade is SO. Freaking. Gorgeous. It’s great because when you think metallic for shades of red, you think of colors with a more rusty, orange tint to it (and any shade of orange lippie looks horrendous on me). But not Wrath. This Urban Decay lipstick has the purest of red pigments with a chrome finish and I am so madly in love with it.

I asked one of the employees if she could put it on for me just so I could be sure and I got the stamp of approval from both her and my sister. And also me, too! Because that would have kind of sucked if I ended up hating this color! As soon as I wear this lipstick out, I will be sure to take a shameless selfie so that all of you can see it, too!

So there you have it, my First Sephora Purchase! What was the first thing that you bought at Sephora? What is your favorite Urban Decay lipstick shade? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

Mini Makeup Haul

Mini Makeup Haul

Hello everyone and happy Hump Day! To conclude my Target Haul appreciation posts, I am here to talk to you about two gorgeous new makeups that I purchased this past weekend. I’ll be honest with you guys, I am not a big makeup girl. I stick with what I know and I legit paint my face the same way every day – which my sister LOVES to dog on me about. So I thought that I would take a step out of my comfort zone with a beautiful emerald green eyeliner by Maybelline. But I am a creature of habit, so back into my comfort zone I went with a lovely new red lipstick by L’oreal, which I am so obsessed with! Take a look and let’s discuss:

My Purchases:

  • Maybelline Glossy Emerald eyeliner #608
  • L’oreal Ruby Flame lipstick #317

As I’ve mentioned about a million times on lifewithlilred, fifty shades of green is my color. With pasty pale skin, bright red hair, and hazel eyes that frequently change color to green or golden yellow, green is one of the colors that always looks good on me. When I worked at The Body Shop, I was definitely more adventurous with my makeup and I can remember using deep green eyeshadows as eyeliner and loving the way that it looked. So I thought that I would revisit that and attempt something different than my normal gold eyeshadow with a bright emerald liner…

The only problem is, is that I freaking suck at applying eyeliner to my top lids so this is definitely going to be a trial and error type of thing! But hey, we’ll see what happens and maybe then my sister will get off of my back for wearing the exact same makeup every day of my life, lol smh.

Now, as for my new L’oreal lipstick – I LOVE it. I have been on the hunt for a red lipstick with glitter in it for the past month and am so happy with this shade in Ruby Flame. When I took my sister shopping at Sephora for her birthday at the beginning of April, I tried my luck there for a lipstick shade that I liked but nothing spoke to me on a spiritual level. Not only did I hate everything that I tried there, but I wasn’t too keen on spending over twenty dollars for a lipstick, anyways.

I wasn’t expecting to find a glitter red that I loved for a whole seven bucks at Target! I had originally seen this L’oreal shade at the drugstore when I was killing time in between meetings for work and I really liked it but didn’t buy it. But, I made note of it for future purchasing purposes and I am really glad that I did! Ruby Flame is exactly what I’ve been searching for. A gorgeous shade of red, a light overlay of fairy dust, and a reputable brand that wasn’t going to break my bank. I am SO pleased with this find and cannot wait to use it on my next night out!

My Mini Makeup Haul at Target left me with a revamped version of a tried and true favorite in L’oreal’s Ruby Flame lipstick and a *gasp* not gold eyeshadow with Maybelline’s Glossy Emerald eyeliner. I’m looking forward to giving both of these new makeups a try and we’ll see what happens! How do you step outside of your makeup comfort zone? What is your go to shade for eyeshadows and liners? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

4 Skin Problems & What To Do About Them

4 Skin Problems & What To Do About Them

It can often be quite surprising how many of us take our skin for granted. If you have never dealt with a skin ailment during your life, you may not have any idea of the kind of issues it can bring up for a sufferer. We all have our health issues, but usually, we can keep them private. Skin conditions, however, are much more difficult to hide – simply because quite a lot of our skin is out for show much of the time. Our skin is delicate, and it varies in many different parts of the body. For example, the skin on your hands has adapted to wrinkle when immersed in water, to give you more grip in poor weather conditions. You will also find that the skin on your body is much less oily than the skin on your face because the body has far less sebaceous glands. That is partially why we have different products for use on our face than we have for use on our bodies – it’s all about caring for and preserving your skin.

Having a condition, however, can make this whole process much more complicated. Some skin issues can be little more than an annoyance, whereas others can be serious and even life-altering. Here are a few that you may have heard of and some others that you may not be so familiar with, and what to do if you think you may be living with any of them:

Excessively Dry Skin: If you have very dry skin, you may just regard it as ‘one of those things’, much in the same way that you may have curly hair or have brittle fingernails. But if you are experiencing any discomfort from your dry skin, you could have a problem on your hands (quite literally!). Dry skin is one of the leading causes of itchy palms, a condition that can be incredibly frustrating for sufferers and something that can possibly interfere with your sleep.

Be mindful of how you react to your itchy, dry skin. If you are absentmindedly scratching it, you might be breaking the skin without realizing it. This can be incredibly painful, and can put you at risk of developing infections. The best way to avoid the incessant itching caused by dry skin is to keep your skin full of moisture, so invest in a good hand cream and a body butter to keep your skin supple and itch-free.

Psoriasis: Psoriasis is a condition that relates to dry skin but in a much more serious way. Its main symptoms are red, flaky patches of skin across the body that are often covered with silver scales. These patches can be itchy or sore, and some people have more severe symptoms than others. Unfortunately, there is no cure for this condition, but there are things that you can do to ease the effects of it. If you think you may have psoriasis, visit your doctor, as they may be able to prescribe you medication or cream to ease some of the symptoms.

Vitiligo: Vitiligo is not a condition that tends to cause the sufferer physical pain, but it can have a big impact on a person’s self-esteem. This particular condition causes white patches to appear on the skin, which vary in size and shape. This can give the skin a ‘mottled’ effect, and it shows up more clearly on people who are naturally dark-skinned. It is a long-term condition, although it can start to develop at any time in life. As of yet, there is no cure, but you can minimize the appearance of the condition with makeup, steroid cream, or even phototherapy. (Notice that Converse and Gap are both using models with Vitiligo in their campaigns!)

A good makeup brush is a must.

Scabies: Scabies is often considered to be an illness of the past, normally associated with pirates living on unhygienic old ships! In reality, however, scabies is caused purely by tiny mites called Sarcoptes scabiei, which burrow into the skin, causing the itchy feeling. Scabies can develop and spread easily in environments where people are living in very close quarters with each other, which is partially why it is more common during the winter than the summer in most Western countries. It is not serious but can be uncomfortable, and can be worsened if you repeatedly scratch at the affected areas. So if you think you might have scabies, visit your doctor. He or she will most likely prescribe you a cream of sorts that contains insecticides, which will kill the scabies mites. Permethrin cream and malathion lotion are the two most commonly prescribed types.
