Friday Night Dinner Club

Friday Night Dinner Club

Hello!! Johnny and I truly hit the jackpot when we moved into our bigger apartment a few years ago. We have ample space, were able to get the bunnies because of it, and best of all – we have the best neighbor! Our downstairs neighbor, Tony, is one of my favorite people in the world. He is in his late sixties and I always like to think of him as my pseudo grandpa. Johnny and I would see Tony outside every day on his smoke breaks and we became fast friends after making introductions. We love going to the gun range together, shooting pool, watching movies, and participating in Friday Night Dinner Club.

Friday Night Dinner Club is exactly what it sounds like lol. Once or twice a month, we go out to dinner together and take turns on who’s picking the restaurant and who’s paying. This has been a staple in our schedule for the past four or so months and is something we always look forward to. It gives us a chance to catch up, have a good meal, and enjoy each other’s company. From Mexican and Italian to chain restaurants or bar food, we go everywhere and it’s such fun to see where we will end up next!

This past Friday, we had a Dinner Club meeting at Luigi’s which is an absolute must in Akron, Ohio. This was a highly anticipated outing because they were closed during our last attempt to go and we haven’t stopped thinking about it since. Luigi’s is a mom and pop style Italian restaurant and offers a huge menu of pizza, sandwiches, pasta, salads, and the like. The portions are more than generous and Tony and I barely made a dent in our pasta. Meanwhile, Johnny annihilated his meatball sub lol. We have been waiting on this meal for over a month and I think everything tasted even better because of it. Having two extra meals out of leftovers is also never a bad thing. 😀

I am so glad that Friday Night Dinner Club has become our “thing”. It’s something so simple but it hits just right every single time. I have hung out with some neighbors once or twice during my extensive tenure at Timber Top, sure. However, I have never had a neighbor like Tony that feels like a true neighbor. He has turned into family – someone who we end our meetings on with an “I love you” and that means so much to me. Johnny and I love our apartment and our Dinner Club co-captain plays a huge part in it!

Johnny is choosing the restaurant for our next meeting and he has been carefully weighing his options. Wherever it is, we are going to have the best time. We always do!

Do you do anything similar to our Dinner Club with your friends? Do you have an awesome neighbor? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

Bestie Bracelets

Bestie Bracelets

Hello!!! My two nieces are my A1 besties and Johnny and I adore being their aunt and uncle. One recently celebrated her second birthday and the other is off to kindergarten and I’m ready for them to stop growing any time now! During my last trip to TJMaxx, I wanted to pick up a few “starting school” treats so little lady could have gifts to open while her sister celebrated her birthday. I got her some fun hair accessories, a nail polish kit, and best friends bracelets. I was hoping she would give me one of them because it was inspired by something my mom did for me when I started school. She did and I proudly wear my half of the Bestie Bracelets every day:

image_50434049(5)

As a new kindergartner, I missed my mom terribly. To help ease that transition, my mom gave me a locket with a picture of us in it. She told me that I should open the locket every time I missed her and I made great use of it and still have it to this day. Johnny’s mom did something similar. She gave him a drawing of a clock with the time that she would pick him up and he was better able to measure the time when he would see her again. This is exactly why I gave my niece our BFF bracelets – so if she ever needed a hug from her TT at school, all she would have to do is look at her bracelet and know how much I love her. Honestly, my bracelet is going to help me too because I am going to miss her SO much while she is at school!

If you have kiddos or lil besties that are about to start their school year, I cannot recommend doing something like this enough. It’s such a simple but effective gesture in combating that back to school angst. It is also something that will be forever remembered. Johnny and I are in our thirties and still think about how our moms gave us something tangible to hold onto when we began kindergarten! Whatever you choose for your little will be cherished and it is definitely worth giving it a try as they start their big adventure. ❤

I am so excited to see how much my niece learns and grows this year and I am so happy that we have Bestie Bracelets together. This proud TT is going to need it, without a doubt!

Did you like going to school? (I sure didn’t lol) What was your favorite subject? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

Early Holiday Shopping 101

Early Holiday Shopping 101

Hello!!! I absolutely adore the winter holiday season and want to be able to revel in it stress free. Of course, like many, that stress comes from the gift department which is why I like to get a very early jump on my Christmas shopping. I have a big family and that makes for a pretty extensive shopping list! Rather than scramble last minute and pray that the prezzies arrive on time, I avoid that completely by starting my purchasing right about now. This is never a chore but something really fun because your girl loves to shop even if it is for other people! As I prepare to get my holiday shopping out of the way, there are a few things that I always keep in mind. Let’s get started:

Holiday shopping should not break your bank and it is so important to consider your budget to prevent that from happening. The simplest way that I keep my budget in check is by placing a firm amount on what I am willing to spend and sticking to it. Sure, you can leave a bit of wiggle room. However, be wary of wiggling too much because that’s when you can get into trouble. Around now is when I like to pick up a few extra shifts at work and designate that cash for strictly holiday purposes. This is a great way to ease stress later on. Once again, I would much rather do more work now as opposed to waiting into the winter. And, yes, that is because I hate driving in the snow SO. Much. lol!

Considering your time doesn’t exactly apply to online and in store purchases now. But, if you are going the handmade or custom made gift route, it is absolutely something to think about. Custom orders can take a decent amount of time to get done and it might take longer as the holiday season approaches. It is best to get these out of the way ASAP to avoid that. Homemade gifts are an amazing and most loved way to go and completing them in a rush could be very frazzling, to say the least. Chip away at your homemade goods when you can so you can more fully enjoy the craftsmanship and skill involved. Then, your gift will be made with love instead of hair being teared out. 😀

Early holiday shopping is all about knowing what should be purchased at the current moment and what can wait until later. If you see an item for your giftee at an awesome price, then go for it now! Chances are you will not find it at a better price later if it is already a total steal. The same goes for clearance or seasonal products, get them now or they will be gone. It is also helpful to think about where you like to buy holiday gifts at. Do they run sales often? Do they have a big Black Friday or winter Semi-Annual Sale? If that is the case, it might be a good idea to wait until the prezzies you have your eye on are on promotion. This is a-okay, but you will want to be cautious because other people might be scoping them out too!

There are so many different ways to do holiday presents so talk to your family and friends and see about switching things up! Perhaps you will have a White Elephant party? Maybe everyone will have one specific giftee to shop for? Or how about everyone pitches in for an experience style gift all together? This can be a really fun way to make new family traditions while keeping stress at a minimum. There is no right way to do the holidays so get creative and go for it. Whatever it is will be perfect for your nearest and dearest. ❤

With that, I am ready to get my shop on and am already looking forward to holiday memories with my loved ones!

Are you an early or last minute holiday shopper? What is one of the holiday traditions in your family? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

Asian Lantern Festival

Asian Lantern Festival

Hello!!! This past Friday evening was an absolutely magical one because my entire family went to the Asian Lantern Festival at the Cleveland Zoo. This is an extremely popular event that happens every summer and we have wanted to go for years. We finally made it with all of my siblings, nieces, and nephew in tow and that alone made it worth the wait. During our time at the zoo we saw the most incredible inflatable and light displays, acrobatic performances, and of course some animals too. Everything was glorious and I couldn’t stop taking pictures if my life depended on it lol. I wanted all of my darling readers to be able to see everything and even this massive photo dump doesn’t cover it all. Check it out:

IMG_8456IMG_8453IMG_8469IMG_8468IMG_8451IMG_8452IMG_8449IMG_8482IMG_8490IMG_8501IMG_8503IMG_8504IMG_8541IMG_8555IMG_8612IMG_8561IMG_8556IMG_8629IMG_8644

I knew we were all in for a huge treat on Friday based on all of the pictures I have seen from other attendees on social media. However, after experiencing the Asian Lantern Festival for myself, I can say that pictures don’t do it any justice. From the moment we walked into the zoo there were spectacular wonders at every turn. From glowing gems in the trees to delicate light up flowers, the displays big and small were beautiful and even the most camera-happy guest (Like me!) couldn’t capture all of it. Every single fixture filled me with delight to the point that it was kid on Christmas Day level. Each moment was joyous and being with my whole family made it even more so. Cameras capture images, but not necessarily the atmosphere of the event and I wish I could bottle it up. The zoo was completely buzzing with families, friends, and partners making their own special memories too.

While every display was gorgeous, I definitely still had my favorites. I loved the unicorn and dragon, the gemstone trees, and the pagoda surrounded by cherry blossoms. Strolling through the light up tunnels also harbored a sense of adventure because you didn’t know what beautiful sight was there to greet you on the other side. Some of the displays like the dragon in the egg, butterflies, and monkeys surrounding the Tree of Life even moved! This was way cool because there were wands that the kiddos could wave to activate the motions – kind of like at Harry Potter world at Universal Studios. These surprises made the night even more magical and I will never, ever forget it!

By the time we were leaving the zoo it was getting fully dark out and my niece claimed that the displays looked even better at night night time lol. She was so right, but we were exhausted after our big evening out and ready to head home all happy as can be!

Does the zoo in your area host events like this? What is a yearly event that happens in your neck of the woods? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

What To Consider Before Adopting A Puppy

What To Consider Before Adopting A Puppy

Adopting a puppy is a delightful experience filled with excitement, love, and a fair share of unique challenges. Bringing home a furry friend is more than just having a cute companion; it requires careful planning and preparation if you want to provide it with a good life. Puppies are like babies – they need attention, training, and the right environment to grow up happy and healthy. So before jumping into this heartwarming journey, it’s a good idea to know what to expect and how to prepare:

Before your puppy arrives, make sure your home is safe and welcoming. Remove any hazardous items such as toxic plants, small objects, and electrical cords that puppies might chew on. It’s also a good idea to create a designated space for your new friend, which can be a cozy corner with a bed and some toys. Consider getting baby gates if you want to limit your puppy’s access to certain areas too. These gates help keep the puppy in safe spaces, especially when you can’t supervise them.

One of the most crucial aspects of bringing a puppy home is starting puppy training right away. Training helps build a strong bond between you and your puppy and ensures they grow up to be well-behaved. Start with basic commands like sit, stay, and come. Positive reinforcement such as treats and praise works wonders in encouraging good behavior. Consistency is key in puppy training. Make sure everyone in the household is on the same page regarding rules and commands.

A new puppy comes with a big shopping list! Some of the things your puppy will need include a sturdy leash and collar, a comfy bed, food and water bowls, and plenty of toys to keep them entertained. Puppies have a lot of energy and need toys to play with and chew on to keep them from getting bored and potentially destructive. High-quality puppy food is a must to ensure your puppy gets the right nutrition for growth and development as well. Consult your vet to choose the best food for your puppy’s breed and size. Lastly, don’t forget about grooming supplies such as brushes, nail clippers, and shampoo.

Regular vet visits are essential to keep your puppy healthy. Your vet will guide you on the necessary vaccinations, deworming schedules, and overall health checkups. It’s important to follow through with these appointments to prevent any health issues down the line. Puppies are curious and can get into trouble, so it’s good to know the signs of common health issues.

Puppies thrive on having a routine. Establishing a regular schedule for feeding, bathroom breaks, playtime, and bedtime helps them feel secure and understand what to expect each day. Consistency helps in training as well and makes life easier for both you and your puppy. Try to take your puppy out for bathroom breaks right after eating, playing, and waking up. Over time, they’ll learn to associate these activities with specific times of the day.

A new puppy is so exciting!! Get your preparations in place and you will ensure a smooth transition when you bring your new four legged into your family.

Accessory Story: Vintage Gloves Edition

Accessory Story: Vintage Gloves Edition

Hello!! Johnny and I had a lovely Date Day during our Fourth of July staycation that included some vintage and antique shopping. I was enamored with one of the shops we visited and couldn’t stop thinking about all of the wonderful (and wildly expensive) treasures. Then, a few days later I forgot all about it because Johnny brought me home the most amazing surprise. He was helping his mom go through boxes and trunks of storage and I was presented with vintage treasures of my very own – five pairs of gloves and two clutch purses that belonged to Johnny’s grandma. Both himself and my mother-in-law thought I should have them and I was so incredibly touched. These beautiful accessories date back to the 1940s! Check it out:

image_50416641(2)image_50431489(13)image_50442241(9)image_50427905(9)image_50416129(11)

When I opened the box containing my “new” accessories, I was literally stunned. I am very rarely speechless and this was one of those situations that didn’t require words. All I could think was that the vintage shops we visited could eat their hearts out because in my hands was something so special that they are invaluable. While Johnny’s grandma had a fondness for gloves, my mom’s mom was all about hats. I have at least fifteen of her vintage hats and they are some of my most prized possessions. I now have something from Johnny’s grandma that I can add to that category AND wear with some of my grandma’s hats to complete the look. ❤

…. Of course, if the gloves fit that is!

Lol, after getting over my initial shock, the next thought I had was “Wouldn’t it suck if none of them fit?”. I have very small hands but these gloves looked tiny. I kid you not that I had more butterflies in my stomach than when I go swimsuit shopping and I really hate that. However, you can always get a bigger size of a bathing suit in the store. Definitely not the case with gloves that are over eighty years old! Thankfully, the fashion gods blessed me. Despite some slight difficulties, I was able to wear each pair quite comfortably. YAY! My favorite accessories from the bunch are easily the gloves and purse from the second photo. The pinwheel style rouching on the cuffs are *chef’s kiss* and can we talk about that sequined bag? Perfect for keeping your phone, credit card, and keys in during a night out!

I am so completely over the moon over these accessories and I cannot wait to incorporate them into fall and winter OOTDs. Vintage chic styles here I come!

Do you have any relics from your grandparents? How do you add vintage vibes to your outfits? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

Treat Day Ideas

Treat Day Ideas

Hello!!! Johnny and I take our roles as the “fun aunt and uncle” extremely seriously. We simply adore our nieces and nephew and consider it our job to spoil them as we don’t want children of our own. Being an aunt and uncle is awesome because we get to unleash our inner child for a few hours and then give the kiddos back to their parents! A shining example of this is “Treat Day”, which is when we pick up our oldest niece, grab some lunch, and go on a fun adventure. In fact, we just had one this past weekend at Urban Air (An indoor trampoline park). Treat Days are a fantastic way to get quality time with our littles and here are some ideas for places to go that your kiddos or nieces and nephews will love:

Trampoline Parks:

Our niece wanted to go to Urban Air for her outing with us this weekend and as it was Treat Day, we happily obliged. I haven’t been to a trampoline park since I was a teenager and it was just as much fun for Johnny and I as it was to our niece. We had an absolute blast exploring all of the different attractions that Urban Air had to offer. There was a gigantic ball pit, trampolines to bounce on, games, playgrounds and so much more. It was honestly exhausting lol but one thousand percent worth it. And, as a bonus, there is a one thousand percent chance your little will be ready for a nap afterwards – we sure were!

Museums:

There are several really cool museums in my neck of the woods as I’m sure is pretty similar for my dear readers. One of the best for kiddos in the 330 is the Akron Children’s Museum. It is an educational setting, but all of the exhibits are so entertaining and hands on that it feels more like play time than learning. This museum features stations for dress up, music, architecture, water, archaeology, engineering, and that’s just naming a few. I have easily spent an entire afternoon there with my nieces before! Museums or libraries are the tops if you still want to have an exciting day out and the weather isn’t cooperating. Your local libraries will also more than likely have free classes, programs, and events for kids too.

Zoo:

Who doesn’t love a trip to the zoo? I am actually eagerly awaiting this coming weekend for an evening at the Cleveland Zoo with my whole family for an Asian Lantern Festival! The zoo (Or aquarium on a rainy day!) is such an interactive location and has something for everyone. Every exhibit is an opportunity for your littles to learn and appreciate something new, but it will feel like an adventure. Be sure to check the events guide for your zoo visit as many of them offer times to feed the animals, attend talks given by zookeepers, and see shows. It also goes without saying that Dippin’ Dots are a complete must! 😀

Out & About:

The very first Treat Day we had with our niece was going to get Mexican food for lunch, shopping at Target so she could pick out a new toy, and going to the park. It is one of my favorite memories and just goes to show that Treat Days can be as big or as low key as you want to make it. Regardless of what you do, your little will feel special from that bonding time. Johnny and I still talk about the OG Treat Day often because our niece said SO many funny things that we like to quote. The day also ended on the most adorable note because the last thing little lady wanted to do was have her uncle set up her new Blue’s Clues playhouse for her. ❤

Back to school will be here before we know it. Make the most of sweet summertime with your kiddos by penciling in a Treat Day or two!

Did you have a favorite aunt or uncle growing up? What is your favorite museum in your neck of the woods? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

Fun Gift Ideas For Friends & Family

Standard
Fun Gift Ideas For Friends & Family

Gifts are never far from our minds. If you don’t think of them naturally, then no worries, society will take care of it for you — from birthdays and Christmas to Mother’s and Father’s Day, you never have to wait too long until you’re giving a gift. Sometimes, we’re happy to give whatever nice product we see in a store. However, for some occasions, you’ll want to go above and beyond to give a gift that stands out from the crowd. If you have one of those gift-giving scenarios coming up, then take a look at the gift ideas outlined below. We’re sure they’ll love it — and you’ll be pretty happy with yourself for having given it, too:

Those perfect days live long in the memory. Sometimes, they just happen out of nowhere. At other times, you have to make them happen. If you’re looking to treat your loved one to an extra special gift, then consider planning and executing the perfect day. This might involve breakfast in bed, a jaunt in the great outdoors, and a show in the evening before taking a lovely walk under a starry sky. Whatever it is, they’ll remember it forever.

If you’re a whizz in the kitchen, then why not give a friend or family member one of your creations? This works especially well with products such as hot sauce or quality jams, which people always love to have in their homes. You can make the gift look and feel more special by printing labels that contain your own unique branding or a special message to your loved one. Plus, if it’s a big hit, then you might even consider making more products and selling them at food markets.

Does your friend or family member love quality food? Then they’ll probably appreciate dinner at a Michelin-starred restaurant. In fact, there’s no ‘probably’ about it — they will! This is extra special because it normally requires a fair bit of work. Depending on which restaurant you’re sending them to, there might be a long wait for a reservation. Forward-planning is essential! This option will probably cost more than the other ideas on this list, but it’ll be money well spent. After all, who doesn’t love eating some of the world’s best meals?

Who says that you need to give all of your gifts in a single sitting? By putting together a coupon book, you can ensure that your friend or family member has something to draw upon whenever they like. You can get as creative as you wish with these books. Anything from ‘free massage’ to ‘I’ll take the trash out for a week’ will be welcome. Put together a bunch of coupons and be sure to let the recipient know that they can cash in their request whenever they feel like it — though you might add a caveat that they’re not allowed to do so during your own birthday. After all, you matter too!

Make special occasions even better with thoughtful gifts to spoil your loved ones with!

Slumber Partay

Slumber Partay

Hi!! My two little nieces are my best girls in the whole wide world. Johnny and I just love being the fun TT and uncle and try our best to see them whenever we can, including this past Monday. My niece, Val Gal, decided her birthday gift to me was going to be a slumber party and it was so sweet lol. She knows that it is both of our favorites so it was a great gift! We were going to hit the pool up, but it was storming off and on all day. That was no matter, because we still had a fabulous time just staying in. 🙂

image_50435329(8)

Even though our swimming plans fell through, this was quite possibly the best time ever and it was right off the jump. As soon as my sister, Val, and little Raya walked through the door I was given fantastic news. Raya was saying “TT” the entire car ride over. She also gave me the biggest smile and said “Hi, TT” and my heart completely melted. It brought me back to when Val said that for the first time and put me in ALL of the feels. Apparently, it did with Val too. We spent a good part of the evening looking at baby pictures of her and little sis and Val wanted to hear the story behind each picture. I was more than happy to talk about all of those happy memories and it was so joyous to reminisce on that together.

Of course, our slumber party wouldn’t be the same if we didn’t stick to tradition. After going through literally ninety percent of the pictures on my phone, it was time for a Disney movie and ice cream sundaes – a sleepover standard. Val wanted to watch Wish, which I had never seen and it was absolutely phenomenal. The visuals and music were amazing and I plan on watching it again so I can pay closer attention to it. Once the movie screening was over, we read lots of books including one that Val picked out for me at the library earlier that day: Barbie’s Book Of Bunnies. It was SO thoughtful and I think Melvin and Penelope liked the story too! By this time, it was time to wrap the festivities up with a little bit of the movie Bolt and bedtime. I think we both fell asleep in under five minutes flat!

My birthday celebrations are officially over, and this was the perfect way to bring it to a close. I can’t wait for more summertime fun with my best girls!! ❤

Do you have any nieces and nephews? What is the best part about being an aunt or uncle? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

Bonus Birthday Surprises

Bonus Birthday Surprises

Howdy!! I turned the dirty thirty on June seventh and had the most wonderful time celebrating. The beauty of birthdays is that you can prolong the festivities and I definitely do. With insanely busy schedules between myself, my family, and friends some of the hangouts have had to wait and I am eagerly awaiting them! Although some get togethers are on the back burner, I have still been treated to lots of birthday love, especially from my work family. It is so nice to be thought of and I adore these sweet surprises:

image_50459649(11)image_50735873(5)

During the work week, I run on sheer willpower and lots and lots of caffeine lol. You can almost always catch me with hot or iced coffee or a Diet Coke and my work fam knows this, which inspired my Stanley Cup gift. Yes, the super viral Stanley Cup! I will be honest with all of you, when these tumblers blew up the internet, I had zero interest in buying one. I have plenty of to go mugs and they have always served me well. However, now that I have this lovely sea foam green Stanley, I can’t believe I didn’t get one sooner. It is the bee’s knees! This cup keeps my drinks either piping hot or icy cold and you just can’t beat it. I also couldn’t have gotten it at a better time because it is officially summer weather and it’s so nice to have a tumbler that keeps my water cold all day. Highly recommend!

And, of course, it wouldn’t be a birthday without some sweet treats. I am not a huge candy fan, but one of my favorite families made a guess at what I would like and they were actually spot on. My Johnny freaking LOVES Mike and Ikes and was simply thrilled when I tossed him the candy box upon my return home from work. I am much more of a chocolate girl than chewy or fruity candy so the peanut M&Ms will pull through in the clutch when my sweet tooth acts up on the rare occasion. Normally when this happens, I have nothing in the apartment to staunch my cravings. Not anymore. 😀

Between the birthday greetings and gifts, I have felt so loved and appreciated and this is the best of all. The fact that people took time out of their day to do something just for me really does mean the world. Turning thirty wasn’t so bad after all… I guess! 😉

Do you have a Stanley Cup? What is your favorite candy? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah
