Guest Star OOTD

Guest Star OOTD

Hello everyone and welcome to the final OOTD from my Thanksgiving look book! Mine and Johnny’s three day celebration gave us great company, food, and fashion – we had an absolute blast! It felt so good to get my OOTD on after a long time without and the photo series below is one of my favorites. Not because of the outfit but because it features my sweet niece, Valerie, as the guest star!

There was a point when Val Gal simply refused to have her picture taken. However, she has been all about it ever since her baby sister was born and I am SO there for it! When I let her know that TT and Uncle Johnny were going to take some pictures outside, she jumped at the opportunity to come with and I have never been more proud. Check it out:

^^^ So. Many. Pictures! But I love them all So. Much!

Who? What? Wear?

When styling this OOTD, I knew it was similar to the one I wore last Thanksgiving but I didn’t realize how similar until I looked at the post lol. Hey, if it’s not broken don’t fix it, amiright? Of course I am, because I love this look and small differences really did make a huge difference! Just like last year, I had my hand me down skater skirt from Rue 21 in mind because it’s cute, classy, and very easy to style. In fact, I had the entire outfit planned out in my head prior to getting dressed. Is that because of a semi-repeat outfit? Who’s to say? lol 😀

To pair with the skater skirt, I went with a beautiful forest green and sky blue detailed silky top from Loft. This was one of my first “business casual” purchases when I was still in college and I still love it. It is also a testament to how long clothing can last if you take good care of it! For this portion of the outfit, I liked how the deep navy in the skirt and the darker base color of the top paired against each other. Also note the mix and match of textures going on between the two pieces to add some visual interest.

But wait! There’s more!

Take a look at the argyle pattern of the socks. See what I did there?! It is almost a perfect match to the skirt and top and I thought that it was the tops. With a strong base of very similar colors, it allowed me to have some fun with the shoes and headband by choosing colors that compliment. As always, if you need help with mixing and matching colors, then a color wheel is a fantastic tool to assist you!

For the shoes, I chose a darling heeled Oxford by Lulu Hun. The Merlot hue was what I was really after because the caramel portion didn’t matter too much as it was a neutral. These heels were an obvious option to go with because you can see that the green, blue, and red/purple are all side by side on the color wheel. It really is as easy as that.

All that was left to do was incorporate an accessory and I decided on a headband for a top of the head to tip of the toes look. As you can see, it featured a lot of colors that were already used in this OOTD. I also tend to not go with a necklace over top of a patterned shirt because that can get very busy very quickly. And, just like that, my outfit was complete!

Although this Guest Star OOTD is really similar to last Thanksgiving, I still love it all the same. And can we please talk about how amazing my little guest star did? Future fellow influencer in the family? I think YES!!

What is your favorite OOTD from my Thanksgiving look book? What is the oldest piece of clothing that you have in your wardrobe? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

Cardi Party OOTD

Cardi Party OOTD

Hey! This past week, Johnny and I celebrated Thanksgiving three times a lady and it was absolutely wonderful. We had the best time enjoying the company of both of our families and are still recovering from the food coma. Because of three Thanksgivings, I had to show out three times with holiday OOTDs and my Lil Red heart is so happy. With the craziness of the past month, it has been hard to find time to create fashion content and it feels great to get back at it again! Without further ado, here is my Cardi Party OOTD that I wore to Thxgiving with Johnny’s family:

image_50728961(1)image_50734849(2)image_50736385(1)image_50727169(5)image_50742785image_50757889image_50727169(4)

Who? What? Wear?

When it comes to Thanksgiving looks, it’s easy to prioritize comfort over style and why wouldn’t you? This is a holiday that is literally hanging out with your family and eating lol. But, what if I told you that you could have both style and comfort? *Gasp* My Cardi Party OOTD was not only crazy comfortable even after eating a big meal but it captured the cozy style that a Thanksgiving look is all about.

For Thanksgiving at Johnny’s parents, I had a cardigan in mind because the weather allowed it. We had a lovely fifty or so degree day and a cardigan is an ideal option for slipping on if you feel chilly or taking off when you’ve got the food sweats. I decided to go with my Lucky Brand cardigan from TJMaxx for its breezy shape and gorgeous color palette. The burnt shades are so celebratory of fall and I loved the unique pairing of these hues with a soft heather grey.

I wanted the colors of the cardigan to be the main feature of this outfit and it allowed me to make snap decisions to tie the rest of the look together. The Rachel Zoe button down of a coin grey hue was a no brainer to wear underneath the cardigan since it complimented the heather grey. Without being tucked in, this top is quite flowy. However, I always wear it tucked because it looks super cute and it also was what I needed so as not to pair two billowy pieces on top of the other.

As you all know, it is a rarity for both myself and my husband to not be in black skinny jeans so we won’t spend time on that regard lol. So, we will move right onto shoes and jewelry. The great thing about fall colors is that they all tend to compliment each other perfectly and that gives you the option to mix and match. This applies to both the famed jewel tone fall colors and duller shades alike, which made the fern heeled combat boots work so well. The grey undertones of the shoes also tied into the pieces on top for complete cohesion.

Finally, I wrapped up this OOTD with one of my favorite necklaces by SJ Pearl. I have several pieces by the brand but I often find myself reaching for the jade beads. I love the reassuring weight and the cool color. The pretty hue allowed me to fill the negative space on top without taking away from the rest of the outfit because it worked with the color palette that I had created. It also added some funky flare to an OOTD that was fairly simple, which you know I live for!

Tune in tomorrow for the final OOTD from my Thanksgiving look book featuring a very special guest. Then, it will be onto November finishes, a new Lil Red’s Book Club, and the blooper reel from these looks. Keep it posted!

What is your favorite fall color? What are you thankful for? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

Comfy Cozy Thxgiving OOTD

Comfy Cozy Thxgiving OOTD

Hello everyone!! Thanks to celebrating Thanksgiving three separate times this past week, I have three brand spanking new OOTDs to share. Thanksgiving humors me so much because everyone gets dressed to the nines to just sit and eat but, hey, that’s my kind of holiday! For my Thanksgiving look book, I wanted to put together outfits that were cute (Of course!) but comfortable enough to lounge in when you feel like your stomach is about to burst lol.

This first OOTD was from actual Thanksgiving when Johnny and I went to my mom and dad’s and just chilled. It was a wonderful day filled with the best company and this is what I put together:

image_50754817(1)image_50748929image_50737921(4)image_50739201(2)

Who? What? Wear?

In my humble opinion, there are few things that invoke comfy cozy more to me than a soft, chunky sweater. Not only is it great to snuggle up in but it also gives you some wiggle room after having a big meal! With that in mind, I went shopping in my closet to see what I could find and decided on my patchwork sweater by Monteau. I probably wouldn’t have selected it if I was cooking that day because we just ordered Bob Evans for dinner and it would have been a shame to stain it! However, this was perfect for the lazy day we shared watching Lego Masters, catching up, and vegging out.

With a top picked out, it was time to move downward in the outfit to the pants department. This part was a no brainer and I went with one of my favorite jeans in one of my favorite patterns – my Wit & Wisdom snakeskin skinnies. I am a huge fan of snakeskin in any color palette and these jeans paired just right with my sweater thanks to the grey, taupe, and cream pattern. Not only was it a match made in heaven but these jeans also feature an elastic waistband, which definitely assisted in providing maximum comfort on Thanksgiving day.

The base of this outfit was quite simple so once it was assembled, accessories were the final step. It took me a minute to decide on which shoes I wanted to wear but once I put my Free People boots on, I couldn’t believe I didn’t go with them from the jump. These are one of my favorite pairs of winter boots and they remind me of putting on ice skates every time I wear them! Although each shade of cream in this look is slightly different, it was all close enough for it to be completely cohesive and I loved how it tied together from top to bottom.

Finally, for a pop of color since this look was almost fully made of neutral pieces, I chose my dark green Argentino Vivo hoops. Argentino Vivo hoop earrings are the absolute best and while I love my huge gold ones, I think I might be a bit more partial to my green pair. Of course, for no other reason than because they pop amazingly against my hair! ❤

This Comfy Cozy Thxgiving OOTD was just what I pictured for a laid back Thanksgiving day. No muss or fuss, just pure comfort and some wiggle room to boot! Keep it posted here on lifewithlilred for more from my Thanksgiving look book!

Coming Soon To lifewithlilred

Hello! You might have noticed something severely lacking in the content department here on lifewithlilred and that is OOTD posts. For a while, I was so happy to have almost weekly photo shoots to share with all of you that coincided with date days with Johnny. Then, the metaphorical shit hit the fan and date days just weren’t an option due to pure and utter chaos in Lil Red’s world. That is why I am so pleased to say that coming soon to theaters everywhere will be not one, nor two, but THREE new OOTDs on lifewithlilred!

Three?! Yes, three. This past week, Johnny and I had not one, nor two, but THREE Thanksgiving celebrations and you’re not going to not look your best when you’re just sitting there eating lol. I have missed having some fashion fun so I am very excited about this recent development and hope that all of you are too. I also have my fingers crossed that all of these clothes will still fit after three Thanksgiving feasts. 😀

Tune in tomorrow for outfit number one from my Thanksgiving look book and, for now, enjoy some pictures of your favorite Lil Red blogger and JOHNNY!!

Happy Thanksgiving!!

Happy Thanksgiving!!

Hello everyone and Happy Thanksgiving to all of you!! The holiday season is now in full swing and I am so thankful to be able to share in it with all of you for the eighth year in a row. Normally, Thanksgiving is my freaking JAM. A family meal with all of my favorite foods makes for a very happy me. However, that will not be in the cards this year because it has been a very tough few months for my family and we will be missing someone at the table until she is able to come home. Rather than feast, I will be spending my day being incredibly thankful that that special someone is on the mend and will be back really soon. Although the food is important to me (lol), feeling #blessed on Thanksgiving is what the day is all about and I’ll be doing that in spades. ❤

Holidays are such a special, joyous time and it can be hard when they don’t feel that way. If that is the case for you too, then we can look forward to better days ahead together. If that is not the case for you, then please take some time out of your day to feel thankful for it. While my stomach won’t be full of my beloved green bean casserole (Hate all you want!!), my heart will be bursting at the seams for all of the good that has happened and will be coming up soon.

Thank you to all of my sweet lifewithlilred family for being a reason why I will be smiling today. My message to you today is that even when things suck massively – there is always a reason to smile. No matter how you spend the day, have a very Happy Thanksgiving and I am thankful for each and every one of you! Much love. -Sarah

Thanksgiving Day OOTD

Thanksgiving Day OOTD

Howdy! I hope all of you had a wonderful Thanksgiving filled with good food and good company. I know that Johnny and I did and it was a vast improvement from last year because we had to sit it out due to a potential COVID exposure for yours truly. Rather than spending my day crying and watching Law & Order SVU, I got to enjoy my Thanksgiving with my family and I am very… THANKFUL!

Check out this lil OOTD before your girl got into her PJs and let the food coma take over. Featuring a cameo by Archie the dog:

Who? What? Wear?

For my Thanksgiving OOTD, I wanted to incorporate fall colors as well as maximum comfort because we all know that it’s a bad idea to wear something tight fitting before a big meal! I played around in my head with what I wanted to wear for Turkey Day several days prior to and am very happy with what I came up with – especially my owl knee highs which I forgot that I even owned lol.

My OOTD started with the Luna Moon peasant blouse that I got during a recent TJMaxx haul and I thought that it was perfect for Thanksgiving. I absolutely love the mustard yellow base combined with the colors of the beautiful embroidery and thought that it screamed fall festive. The skirt was actually a hand me down from a client’s friend and it paired wonderfully with the gold button accents.

It was a cold and rainy Thanksgiving day in my neck of the woods and I knew that I needed something to cover up my legs. I was hoping to wear a white pair of tights but realized that I didn’t have any so I had to do some digging in my odds and ends box in my closet. There, I discovered my owl knee highs that I purchased during a brief stint of working at Claire’s and knew that they would do just fine. In fact, I liked it even better than the original idea of tights!

To complete my outfit, I chose my Lulu Hun heeled oxfords for a little touch of student teacher chic. I haven’t worn these shoes in a while, which blows my mind because they are adorable. These shoes also helped tie together the fall palette that I wanted to create with each component of my OOTD.

When it comes to combining cute with comfortable, this look accomplished my mission to the T. I love how the different colors and patterns worked all together, which made for a really fun OOTD out of fairly simple pieces. Although, I’d be a liar if I said that I wasn’t dying to get into my pajamas all day!

How was your Thanksgiving? What did you wear to stunt in your house? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

Happy Thanksgiving!

Hello everyone and Happy Thanksgiving to all of you!! This has been a year full of exciting things for yours truly including getting married, achieving a 1,000 day writing streak, and being fully vaccinated with a booster shot included. I am so thankful for all of this and, as always, I am so thankful for all of you – my dear readers and friends. ❤

Without your unending support, lifewithlilred would not be going strong for seven plus years and I love being with all of you on my blogging and life journey. While I feel lucky for this every day, days like Thanksgiving make me feel extra sentimental about it and I can’t express my gratitude enough.

I will keep this post short and sweet so you can go back to enjoying your Thanksgiving day. I just wanted to say that I love you all and hope you have the most joyous time with family and friends! ❤

Thanksgiving Checklist

Thanksgiving Checklist

Hi! Thanksgiving is in one short week… Are you ready for it? Today, we’re going to check out a checklist to make sure that everything is in order for the big day. I, myself, have been fantasizing about Thanksgiving food since last Thanksgiving so I am very excited! Let’s get to it so your holiday meal with your loved ones happens without a hitch:

Prepare Your Menu:

Before going grocery shopping, it is important to prepare your menu in accordance to how many people will be at your meal and any dietary needs that they might have. For example, in my family there are three vegetarians so we never skimp on the side dishes! Doing a menu prep will also ensure that you are not cooking way too much or too little. Although, popping in an oven pizza if you haven’t cooked enough food isn’t the worst thing that could happen… I really like oven pizza lol.

Go Grocery Shopping:

Once your menu is in order, it is never too early to hit the grocery store so what you need isn’t sold out. Now would be a great time to get your turkey or ham, stuffing mixes, potatoes, cranberry sauce, beverages, and other cooking essentials like oil, flour, and milk. Veggies like green beans for the much debated green bean casserole (which I freaking LOVE) should be purchased a few days before Thanksgiving for ultimate freshness.

Clean Up:

If you are hosting Thanksgiving dinner at your house, then a deep clean is definitely in order – especially if you’re like my family who puts literally everything on the dining room table! Clean up the dining room, kitchen, bathrooms, and the living room so you have a comfortable space to relax after gorging yourselves. While everyone might be too full to play games after dinner, a movie screening in the living room will be much appreciated while you digest. I, personally, am hoping that my family continues with the tradition of watching Step Brothers after our Thanksgiving meal!

Early Food Prep:

There is plenty of food preparations that can be done before Thanksgiving day to make your cooking extravaganza easier on yourself. It is also an essential task for the perfect turkey. A day or two before Thanksgiving, you can work on cutting veggies and fruits if you’re having pie for dessert, baking rolls if you’re going the homemade route, and measuring all of the spices and seasonings you’ll need for each dish into a zip lock baggie. Anything that you can do beforehand will have you thanking yourself on Thanksgiving day since it will lighten your work load.

Get Your Outfit Ready:

I think it is so funny that people get super dressed up for Thanksgiving even though they are just hanging out at home but it is part of the tradition so a great outfit is in order. Plan out your OOTD ahead of time so you’re not left with the horrible feeling of having “nothing to wear” come Thanksgiving day. I already have a few ideas in mind so be on the lookout for an OOTD post of me straight stunting at the home front! 😀

Ease some of the stress that the Thanksgiving holiday can bring with the check list above so you can fully enjoy your day with family and friends. ❤

What is your favorite Thanksgiving food? Does your family have any Thanksgiving traditions? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

Sweet Surprises: A Thanksgiving Stowaway Edition

Sweet Surprises: A Thanksgiving Stowaway Edition

Hello!! Sadly, Johnny and I were not able to attend Thanksgiving with my family and it really, really sucked. It was so hard to visit my loved ones outside and not be able to hug them and enjoy the day together. It was especially difficult to not be able to hold my niece, Valerie, because she is my lil BFF and I have never not held her whenever I see her since she has been born.

My parents were nice enough to drop Thanksgiving dinner off on mine and Johnny’s doorstep and it wasn’t until the following day that I noticed a little stowaway on the bag they sent over:

127214393_167890441719866_7123459606698413746_n

Valerie loves playing with stickers and her and my sister stuck this little guy from Trolls onto our to go bag. I didn’t notice it right away because it was on the backside of it and it made me so happy when I finally saw this “hi auntie” message from my niece.

The little things really do make the best sweet surprises. I wish I could have been there to hear Val say “uh oh” when one of her stickers ripped and I am so ready for Christmas so I can be there when her and her parents open all of her prezzies.

This Thanksgiving was straight up not a good time for me or Johnny and I am sharing these stories to help remind and encourage people to continue wearing their masks and social distance. The food, my sticker stowaway, and being with Johnny made the day not the worst but our Thanksgiving would have been so much better had we been able to celebrate traditionally.

Regardless, my sweet surprise from my niece and sister definitely helped perk me up. It is also a nice reminder that even the smallest gestures can have such a great impact. Be kind to everyone because you have no idea what they’re going through. Who knows, you might be helping make their bad day just that little bit better. 🙂

How did you safely celebrate Thanksgiving? What are you looking forward to as the year comes to a close? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

Lil Red’s Thanksgiving

Standard
Lil Red’s Thanksgiving

Hello! For those of you who don’t know, Thanksgiving is one of my favorite holidays. I love sitting around the table with my family and enjoying the most delicious food that I have been waiting all year to eat, lol! Unfortunately, due to the nature of my job of working in several different homes throughout the course of this pandemic, Johnny and I deemed it unsafe for us to participate in the holiday with both of our families.

Making that decision was not easy and I honestly cried for at least three days about it. However, safety is and will always be my primary goal and anything I can do to protect my family, my clients, and myself is worth all of the hardships. As I’ve mentioned before, COVID-19 has been on a terrifying rise in Ohio and it has made doing anything other than work and grocery shopping damn near impossible for those who are taking the virus seriously.

On Thanksgiving, Johnny and I were able to visit with my family outside and my parents were nice enough to drop off our Thanksgiving meal to our apartment. It was not traditional in any sense of the word but we all felt good with that decision no matter how hard it was.

As someone who has worked in the health care field throughout this entire pandemic, it is safe to say that I am totally burned out. However, a bright ray of sunshine is on the horizon for me come Christmas. I have not taken any time off to recharge for the past nine months and I plan on taking two weeks off prior to Christmas so I can celebrate safely with my family.

It will feel so good to have that time to relax, breathe a little bit easier, and be able to watch my family open all of the gifts that I picked out special for them. Thanksgiving was a bust but I am going to make this Christmas the best one yet and I can’t wait!

How did you celebrate Thanksgiving this year? What is your favorite holiday? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

PS: Thank those of us in the health care profession not just with your words but by wearing a mask and social distancing to help curb the spread of COVID-19. We are tired. We are exhausted. And we need your help!
