If The Shoe Fits: Free People Edition

Hellooo everyone and welcome to another wonderful week here on lifewithlilred! Today, we are going to discuss a new pair of kicks from a brand that I have admired from afar for many a year now – that being: Free People. Oh, Free People. So boho. So chic. So fun. SO. FREAKING. EXPENSIVE!!!! Trust and believe that if I didn’t get these shoes at TJMaxx, then buying them would be completely out of the question. Honestly, the TJ’s price was steep for me. BUT, these cute boots were too fabulous to pass up on and I can’t have a guilty conscience weighing me down. Check it out:

fpfp3fp1fp2

Aside from being a total label whore about finally owning something by Free People, there is a lot that I love about these wedges. And, by a lot, I mean: EVERYTHING. The off white color, the chunky, platform-esque heel, the sparkly pale pink laces. Ugh, they’re perfect.<3

These Free People bootie boots are like a high fashion version of Timberland’s, which is a lot better than it sounds, I promise! Because, seriously, the styling potential for these knows no bounds and, if done properly, they can be an all four seasons pair of shoes. I love the idea of stomping around in the leaves with these bad boys during the fall, but I can totally picture myself avoiding puddles in them during a rainy spring day. And, the neutral off white allows you to rock them with anything and everything while still looking fashion forward. Sweet!

Do I plan on purchasing Free People clothing and shoes from TJMaxx constantly? No, definitely not. But, am I happy to have gotten my new boots to upgrade my fall footwear? Definitely! ūüėÄ

What is a brand that you admire from afar? How would you style these boots? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

ModCloth Haul

ModCloth Haul

Hey everyone and happy Hump Day! I recently just received the sweetest ModCloth Haul of all time – a box that went up to my shoulders filled with shoes for me! That’s right, I got FOUR pairs of ModCloth shoes for SEVENTY DOLLARS thanks to their end of summer sale. I stocked up on cute boots and killer wedges for a fraction of their original cost. I could not be happier with my purchases so take a look and let’s discuss:

^^^ PRETTY!!!!

My relationship with ModCloth is for the most part, nonexistent. Their prices just do not fit into my Lil Red Lifestyle of ballin on a budget so I just admire all of their gorgeous clothes and accessories from afar. I constantly lust over all of the prettiness that ModCloth has to offer and when the end of summer and winter come around, I religiously check the site to see when their amazing end of season sales take place. Usually around these times, the out of season items are marked down and an additional percentage is taken off, too. So, needless to say, when I learned that ModCloth’s sale items were an extra FORTY PERCENT OFF, homegirl just had to jump on the opportunity.

Jump on the opportunity? Psh, more like a pounce on said opportunity. I scoured the sale items and clicked on anything that tickled my fancy. After all, the prices were right! I ended up with two funky pairs of wedges, a penny loafer wedge, and my beautiful, beloved, gorgeous star studded booties. Said booties are actually what I would like to discuss today because there’s kind of a funny story behind them considering this was the third time that I ordered them. Let me explain…

I’ve been hungrily staring at these amazing booties on my laptop screen for the better part of two months. As soon as they got marked down, my mom generously offered to pay for them as an extra birthday present. As soon as “extra birthday present” traveled from my mom’s mouth and into my ears, I was on the computer and ordering the boots as quickly as my little fingers could. The boots arrived. They were perfect. End of story? Eh, not quite.

Literally three days after my order was placed, the boots were marked down further. *Sigh* So I had to do the old rebuy and return trick to get the better price. The boots arrived, again. They were still perfect. And the more expensive pair got returned. End of story?! Still no.

While browsing the sale pages, there they were. My star studded boots were marked down even further. *You’ve got to be freaking kidding me* Thankfully, I was still within the thirty day time period for a refund and was able to buy the boots one more time and return my current pair. The boots arrived, yet again. You already know that they were perfect. And that is the end of the story. The moral being: That I will do anything to save some extra moolah, even if that means buying the same pair of shoes three times to get the right price. #SMH

I have worn all of my new shoes except for my star booties which is funny considering the trouble I went through to get them.¬†Reason being: It’s too damn hot in the AK-Rowdy to be marching around in skinny jeans and boots. So for the time being, I’ll march around in skinny jeans and wedges instead.

So there you have it, my latest ModCloth Haul! What is your favorite site to online shop on? What is your favorite ModCloth purchase? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. –Sarah

Shoes Muse: Follow Your Heart, Not Fads

Shoes Muse: Follow Your Heart, Not Fads

Hi everyone and welcome to another vacation guest post brought to you by the beautiful Tara over at Tarabells. If there’s one thing that Tara and I know, it’s that girls love shoes. So what better way to pay tribute to every female’s undying love for all things heels, flats, booties, and wedges than discussing some super cute summer footwear trends? Please take a look at Tara’s blog because it’s absolutely fantastic and then enjoy this post that she created special for my lifewithlilred readers:

Shoes Muse: Follow Your Heart, Not Fads

I’ll be the first to admit, when I read a trendy fashion blog post about the hottest thing this season (aka lace-up ballet flats) I turn into¬†Cookie Monster (“me WANT!”). But so often¬†what’s ‘in’ turns out to be uncomfortable, forgettable the next year, incompatible with most of our wardrobe, or worst of all – guilt inducing to wear out (I think this is because deep in our hearts we know shopping should be more of a thoughtful ritual and less of a¬†hasty catharsis).
One thing I have been hasty with is SHOES. So this year I did something different. Instead of vacant online perusing and clicking, I decided to visit stores in person A LOT. I did my research and took mental notes. I read four fashion books, yes, FOUR (I will share at the end of this article). I journaled about my personal style and asked myself what makes me unique.
I’m nowhere near done with this process; even the fashion gurus say finding your own style takes time. But I did gather a nice assortment of summer shoes that I’m happy with so far! Here’s the lineup:
Navy Print Keds: SO unbelievably cute, casual, and COMFORTABLE. These will go with just about anything in your wardrobe. And you don’t even have to wear socks, for crying out loud (as long as you’ve got foot powder)! ¬†I like them so much because I can take the dog for a walk and my feet¬†still feel adorable.

Vintage Cowboy Boots: These warm my heart because they were purchased at a local music store next to a bar that I used to play music at frequently. There’s nothing like a pair of cowboy boots to hold all of those Kentucky memories of summer nights in the dive bar with no A/C, sharing crappy beer and original songs!

WP_20160529_18_14_34_Pro (2).jpg

Kitten Heels: Sometimes you find the best things when you’re not looking. These sexy kitten heels peeked out at me from the size 10s and 11 section (I wear a size 7 1/2 or 8!). Somehow they got misplaced and how on earth I was able to spot the tiny size 8 tag I will never know. I guess their magnetism¬†just drew me to them!

Green Goddess Sandals: Ha, well that’s what I call them. They¬†represent everything about me that’s ME. They aren’t really trendy at all. They’re well worn (bought from a local used clothing store). They are bright green (one of my favorite colors!). And most of all, my feet feel good¬†in them. I especially love that they add¬†a little pop of color and make a basic outfit chic!

Jewel Encrusted Sandals: I have had my eye on this style for years…it started when I read about them in a Paris Street Style book. Mystical as they were, to wear anything with gems, sparkles, or jewels felt foreign to me. Could I pull it off? Now I realize it’s less about ‘pulling it off’ and more about having fun. Go ahead and feel fancy from time to time – we all deserve that! FYI, you’ll be delighted to know that they did not cost a fortune – these babies were thrifted for six bucks!

Thanks so much for reading. Click¬†here¬†for¬†a lil’ freebie (it was a grad school project that involves fashion and I now give it away on my site). Cheers!

Sunday Funday Party Pics

Sunday Funday Party Pics

Hi everyone and happy Hump day/beginning of March! On Sunday evening, Kyle and I attended his work casino themed holiday party. There was a raffle, lots of food, drinking, dancing, and all kinds of casino games that you could play for more raffle tickets. We had lots of fun getting all dressed up and making our rounds throughout the party. There was also a costume contest so walking around and seeing everyone’s costumes was cool, too! There was someone with a face tattoo inspired by The Hangover, a guy in a cardboard slot machine, and a Queen of Spades who won the contest. Kyle and I had a quick photo shoot together while we were waiting for the raffle winners to be announced (we didn’t win NOTHIN!) so take a look:

^^^ That second pictures kills me!

I’m currently obsessed with the “boxer braids” look so when I got my hair cut on Saturday, I had my fabulous stylist attempt the style with my short hair. It turned out really cute and I thought it was such a cool do for the party. My sister was nice enough to let me borrow one of my favorite dresses of hers from Urban Outfitters, which I was so happy about! I feel like I’ve worn all of my dresses a million times around Kyle so I liked being able to change it up. I wore my go to pair of zipper front black wedge heels to give me some length and my signature red lip to top off the look.

Kyle and I had so much fun getting our party on during Sunday Funday and I hope all of you had just as great of a weekend as I did! What were your plans over the weekend? Are you planning anything exciting for the weekend ahead? I wanna hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

Treat Yoself! My Grown Up Wishlist From Spring

Treat Yoself! My Grown Up Wishlist From Spring

Hello everyone and happy weekend! I recently got invited to create my own “Treat Yoself” Grown Up wishlist with the amazing products from Spring, an online boutique for all of your fashion needs! I have to say, if I treated myself to everything that I wanted from their incredible selection of clothing and accessories, I would be in severe debt because it’s basically the entire website, which is:¬†Spring . Click on the link, shop along, and see what Lil Red likes the most as well as what you can send my way for the holiday! ūüėČ ‚̧

Silk Gauze Parka by Laveer: Oh. My. Goodness. This jacket is fabulous. I’m a huge jacket girl and this piece really caught my eye. As I scrolled through Spring, I noticed a lot of gorgeous leather jackets as well and perhaps if I wasn’t a strict vegetarian, one of those would be on my list. But this Laveer piece is just to die for. If there’s one thing my readers have learned about me, it’s that when I purchase clothing it must fall under the criteria of: black (usually), edgy, and super chic and this jacket fits that to the T.

laveer

Blazer with Bones Crystals by Libertine: Okay, the thing about this blazer is that if I talk about it for too long I’m going to start to cry because that’s how badly I want it. I LOVE Libertine so when I saw this piece I instantly started to drool…metaphorically speaking. This is hands down my favorite item on the website, and that’s really saying something. It’s perfect. I can’t say more than that.

libertine

Mollie Box Pleat V Neck Flare Dress by Alice + Olivia: Surprise! A non black item! I adore this dress! Some people are shocked that I love dresses but the funny thing about my style is that I love either really edgy or really girly pieces, there’s no in between. What I like the most about this dress is the color because I love wearing burnt orange. Rich fall colors make up quite a bit of my wardrobe so this dress would fit in perfectly. And the fact that it’s Alice + Olivia is a plus – their clothes are darling!

Multi Blue “OH ROY” Pump by Pierre Hardy: Soooo…I really like shoes. I tried to go through all of the various categories on Spring but I got stuck on their selection of heels, boots, and flats. These. Are. FABULOUS!! I love pieces that are so unique and out there that the only question people can ask is “where did you find something like that?” These pumps by Pierre Hardy scream quirky to me, therefore, I’m in love.

pierre.jpg

Comet Mid Heel Ankle Boot with Removable Bracelet by Freda Salvador: Yes, these are leather but that’s why they’re part of my wishlist…because I wish they weren’t leather! These are the coolest pair of booties ever! And everyone knows that Lil Red loves her booties. There comes a point in the world of ankle boots when they all start to look the same but these are such a loud and cool statement and I can’t get enough of it. Size 6 1/2 pleather, please.

freda.jpg

Embellished Tiger Sweater by Nicole Miller: The thing is…is that I’m kind of obsessed with this sweater. I scrolled through the entire section of tops on Spring and fell in love with their silly slogan-ed shirts adorned with phrases like “Namastay In Bed” but I couldn’t stop thinking about this piece! It’s so quirky, but it’s still sharp and chic and I can’t pinpoint why but I really like it. I’m not exactly one to walk around with an embellished tiger on my tops but I can definitely picture myself rocking this one!

I had a complete ball making my Treat Yoself! Grown Up Wishlist From Spring and I encourage all of you to check out their site at: Spring. What is your favorite piece from Spring? What are you going to add to your holiday wishlist from their site? I wanna hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

If The Shoe Fits – Apt. 9 Edition

Helloooo everyone and welcome to a new edition of If The Shoe Fits – Apt. 9 style! I got these beauties for an incredible bargain while shopping at Kohl’s and they have become one of my go to pairs of heels – especially since my beloved Vera Wangs are not what they used to be. Take a look at my shoe babies and then let’s discuss:

aptapt1

If there’s one thing that you guys should know about me by now, it’s that I love a bargain! Target, Kohl’s, and TJMaxx are my favorite stores to ball on a budget at and my Apt. 9 wedged heels were no exception! These shoesies were purchased with my shopping partner in crime…My mother. We always have such a blast when we go out together and I vividly remember our shopping trip that resulted in my Apt. 9s like it was yesterday.

Kohl’s always has the best end of season sales so my mom and I had a mother daughter rendezvous at the end of April. Usually when we go shopping together we divide and conquer the store and then meet up in a place we can enjoy as a pair…the shoe department. :*) Not gonna lie, the shoe section was looking a hot mess because of overzealous shoppers but we perused the aisles and found multiple winners to try on. I locked eyes on two gorgeous Juicy Couture heels (which I ended up purchasing) and I was so focused on them that I almost left the shoe sanctuary altogether because I thought I had found “the ones”…

Little did I know, one of my favorite pairs of shoes would be found after one last look around of the shoe department before we checked out our goodies. I scanned through the aisles, rejecting the pairs that I deemed “shameful” before and giving a slight nod of approval to the shoes that I thought were cute but not cute enough to try on. That’s when my slight nod at my Apt. 9s turned into a shake of disapproval that I hadn’t plucked them from the shelf earlier. I don’t know what made me shy away from them before – they have everything that I like! A heel, zippers, and most importantly – they’re black! But better yet, the price was only seventeen dollars! Seventeen. Freaking. Dollars. That’s when I knew that they were coming home with me.

I sat my sweet ass down, pulled off my shoes one last time, and gave the Apt. 9s a try…and they were fabulous!! They reminded me SO much of my beloved black lace up Vera Wang wedges but they were still unique and cool in their own right. I only needed about a thirty second inspection in the full length mirror to know that my edgy wedges would be an excellent addition to my collection. I returned to the bench and added the Apt. 9s to the pile which resulted in three pairs of shoes for under one hundred dollars! #SCORE

My pretty babies truly are my Vera Wangs reincarnated because I seriously wear them everywhere now. They were my first day of school shoes this semester as well as my go to-s for running errands, date nights, hang outs, and concerts. You name it, I’ve probably worn them for it! I loveeee wearing my Apt. 9s with my black skinnies from H&M which can be seen in my featured image photo. They have zippers starting at the bottom of the jean that go halfway up my calf and it makes such a rocker effect to have the zippers from the jeans and shoes staggered on each other. When I want to sport an All Black Everything look, pairing my outfit with my Apt. 9s is a no brainer!

So there you have it, the newest issue of If The Shoe Fits – Apt. 9 Edition! What is your favorite pair of shoes that you got for an amazing deal? Who is your favorite person to go shopping with? I wanna hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

If The Shoe Fits – Vera Wang Edition

If The Shoe Fits – Vera Wang Edition

Helloooo everyone and welcome to the newest edition of If The Shoe Fits – Vera Wang style! If you’re familiar with lifewithlilred in the slightest, then you’ll know that I talk about these shoes a lot. My Vera Wang black lace up wedges are the epitome of “old faithful”. As you can see by the following pics, they’ve had a bit of wear and tear to them BUT they’re still fabulous! Let’s discuss:

versvera1

Like many of my shoes in my wardrobe boutique, my Vera Wang’s are from Kohl’s. But unlike many of the pieces in my footwear collection, these babies have been with me for years – well over five, I believe. I’ve had a lot of amazing moments in these shoes and some not so good ones, but no matter the mood at least I know that my wedges looked awesome every time! Now let’s talk about the story behind my OFFF (Old Faithful Fabulous Friend):

So if my Vera’s are five-ish years old, then that means that I was sweet sixteen when I got them. I can picture young Lil Red ambling through the Kohl’s shoe department right now. What attracted my sixteen year old self to these shoes? What made my teenage self say “these are the ones that I’m going to love and cherish until the end of time”? Knowing that my attitude about personal style has been the same since I could dress myself, I’m guessing I loved these wedges because they were unique. I know for a fact that I didn’t have any pairs like it in my collection at the time, so I knew that I had to have it. Like everything in my closet, these Vera’s had the edgy rocker vibe that I yearn for in whatever I buy and I knew that I couldn’t live with myself if I didn’t purchase them and become their new mother immediately. #motheroftheyear

Once my Vera Wang’s were safely in my possession, they became my go to shoes for everything. School, concerts, hanging out with friends, work, running errands, dates, going grocery shopping, going to auditions – literally anything you could imagine a sixteen year old doing, I was probably doing it in these wedges….Uhhh….Anyways, they were my favorite and they are still my favorite to this day. I feel invincible when I wear these shoes. Depending on what I style them with I can go from feeling sexy and dangerous to feminine and sweet in a matter of seconds. There’s seriously nothing better than having pieces in your wardrobe that give you such versatile emotions and styling options.

I wore my Vera’s every chance I could get and I wore them with every outfit you can imagine. Girly dresses, not so girly dresses, body con skirts, mini skirts, midi skirts, maxi skirts, short shorts, normal shorts, skinny jeans, leggings, slouchy but sexy pants – you name it, I’ve worn my wedges with it. There’s no denying the beauty of the shoes but they are also SO functional as well. The height of them is just right – it gives whatever you’re wearing that little extra oomph, but they’re not so high that you’re tottering around like a baby deer when you’re being a woman on the go. #perfection

What truly breaks my heart about these shoes is that they’re getting old. My darling Vera’s are becoming broken down and flimsy so I wear them very rarely now. These shoes have been my fashion lifeline for five years and counting now and I don’t think that I could ever part with them. Not only do my wedges hold a special place on my feet but they’ve left a permanent foot print on my heart as well. I’ll never forget all of the crazy times I’ve had in my beauties and I know that until the right time comes to wear my worn down wedges again, they will be holding sentinel on my shoe wall with an ever watchful eye on their beloved owner. ‚̧

So there you have it, the newest issue of If The Shoe Fits – Vera Wang Edition! Does anyone have a relationship to a pair of shoes similar to that of mine and my Vera Wang’s? What is your most loved pair of shoes? I wanna hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah
