Maintenance Checks for When Spring Has Sprung

Standard

Many places might just be reaching peak winter conditions but spring isn’t too far around the corner. It will be here before you know it, so don’t despair if the cold weather is getting you down. If you can’t wait for spring to arrive, you can start thinking about how to prepare your home for slightly warmer weather. Winter can be harsh on some parts of your home and other things could be a little rusty from misuse. Take your spring cleaning to the next level by doing a bit of spring maintenance as well. These tasks will help get you started:

Clean Your Gutters: Wind, snow, and rain during the cold months can affect your home’s gutters, spouts, and roof. Leaves and other debris might block up your gutters, making it harder for them to drain properly. With rainy spring weather on the way, you need them to be able to cope with a lot of water. Cleaning them out, along with your downspouts, is an essential job to do before the spring. You should also make sure to inspect your roof to ensure that there is no damage. It needs to hold up through the spring to keep your home warm and dry.

Check Your Air Conditioner: Spring might not be the time to put your AC unit on just yet, but you don’t want to leave it until the last minute. Checking your air conditioner well before the summer months is essential if you don’t want it to suffer a sudden breakdown once it’s stifling hot. There are a few simple jobs you might do yourself, such as changing the filter. However, it’s a good idea to schedule an AC service from a professional to give it a thorough check. They’ll know what to look for to make sure that your air conditioner is working correctly.

Remember that it’s important to schedule an appointment for your air conditioner well ahead of time. Everyone is going to have the same idea to do so to ensure their AC is working once summer is here. Your preferred AC servicing company will get booked up quickly so while you’re thinking about it, give them a call! You will be glad you did when the hot days of summer come around and you’re perfectly comfortable in a nice, cool house.

Check Your Home’s Exterior: Winter can put a stop to working on the exterior of your home. Who wants to paint their house or fix any fences while it’s so cold? But once the weather gets a little warmer, it’s a good opportunity to spring clean your home exterior. You don’t want to do them when the temperature is through the roof, either! Check decks, fences, and other woodwork to see if you need to reseal them before the spring rains arrive. Pressure washing will be an instant face lift to your home as well as a deep clean of the windows. You might choose spring to paint your home’s exterior or maybe install some new siding.

Tend to Your Garden: When spring first arrives, it still might not be the best time for planting. However, you can start to prepare your garden for later. Turning over your soil once it’s not too hard to do so is a good task to start with. Start planning what you want to plant and when you need to plant it. It might be time to unwrap or replant some plants that you had to protect during the winter, too.

Spring is a time of renewal, so take the opportunity to refresh your home. It’s a good way to get your mojo back after a cold and blah winter!

New Target Dress

New Target Dress

Hiii everyone and happy Tuesday! This past weekend I did a little shopping to beat the winter blahs of January away and I ended up with a super cute new dress from Target. As I entered the store, I was so happy to see that they had their spring clothing on display. The winter weather in Ohio has been unusually, freakishly mild this year – we’re talking weather in the 50s and 60s. So, needless to say, I have definitely been thinking spring! I am a bit sad that I haven’t gotten to make use out of all of my gorgeous cold weather clothing but I can’t complain about this warm streak of weather when Ohio winters are usually bitter cold.

Not only did the spring style temps inspire me to buy myself something pretty but I also got my new dress to spice up my work wardrobe. I have grown weary of wearing the same pants and a blazer during the days when I’m bopping around visiting different day programs and group homes so I thought some fun new dresses would be a perfect way to go. For work, I always enjoy pairing up a dress with some tall riding boots and tights to create a look that is posh and profesh rather than too revealing. Take a look at my newest work and play wardrobe addition:

What I love the most about this dress is the shape and, of course, the color! Mustard yellow is one of those colors that happens to look really good on me thanks to the pasty pale skin and red hair so whenever I see something cute in this color, I always have to try it on! I love the base color of this dress but I also think that the periwinkle blue, cream, and pink floral pattern looks gorgeous over top of it. This dress reminds me a bit of my all time favorite dress from Urban Outfitters but I think that it is so darling that I don’t even care!

The other fantastic thing about my new dress is the shape. It looks like a seriously seventies style frock and I think that it’s just perfect. The buttons down the front add some edge while the fluttering, flowy sleeves add a sweet touch of 1970s glam. I can’t wait to pair this dress with my tan knee high riding boots for work and then ditching the boots for my pair of BCBGeneration cut out heels for play as seen below:

If you have spring on your mind and are getting winter cabin fever, then you better head to Target and get your shop on. Their spring collection is filled with pretty frocks, kimono tops, and a whole lot of girly fun!

How do you rock a business casual work outfit? What clothing items are you most looking forward to wearing when the warm weather finally hits? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

Exciting News!!

Hey everyone and happy Hump Day! I have some very exciting news for my Think Spring Guest Bloggers Series that I just couldn’t wait to share. As you guys know, my friend Angela (who I wrote about yesterday) has a delightful little Etsy shop dedicated to homemade bath and body care goodies. And because Miss Angie and I are in cahoots with each other, I ran an idea by her to get her crafty self to participate in my series. So, I am very excited to share with you guys that as a Lil Red Exclusive, Angela will be creating a signature spring scent special for my readers as a part of the series.

The product will launch on her Etsy shop as well as through an article on lifewithlilred during the series. I am also hoping that we might be able to employ a special discount available to my readers! I am SO excited to see what Angela comes up with but I also want to hear your input, too. What scents do you think are perfect for spring? What is your favorite bath and body care item to treat yourself with? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Beyond Spring Cleaning: Those Changes You Should Make To Your Home

Beyond Spring Cleaning: Those Changes You Should Make To Your Home

It can sometimes seem as though there is no end to the amount of changes that you can make at home. It makes little difference how long you have been living somewhere, there are always improvements which can be made. Some of these are relatively modest, and are merely the work of an afternoon. But if you want to notice a more profound change in the home, then you might want to consider making some bigger changes.

These kinds of changes might take a bit longer – but will definitely be worth the extra time. However, it can be difficult to decide on what kind of changes to actually make. In this post, we are going to look at a few examples of some of the things you could be doing around this time of year to improve your home.

A Fresh Coat Of Paint: This is one of those things that is so basic that we often forget about it entirely. But giving your home a fresh lick of paint can make a surprising difference to the overall ambience of the space. If you notice that you have not repainted any of your rooms in a while, spring is a great time to do it. Especially if you go for lighter colors, which can help to really liven things up in time for the fresh start of the new year. If you are unsure of what colors to go for, it might help to bear in mind that it doesn’t matter all too much. The main thing is that you are happy with the overall effect; whether or not you have unity in color between rooms should be wholly irrelevant.

Improve The Security: Security worries us all from time to time. One of the most essential things for anyone is to be able to feel at home in their own home. You need to feel safe there if nowhere else, as this is the whole idea of it being your home. That’s why it pays to keep a close eye on the security of your place. The last thing you want is to leave your home vulnerable to attacks or natural disasters. The good news is that improving the security of your home does not have to be a complex or expensive issue. If you install security window screens, you should find that any potential break-ins are thwarted at first attempt. And you might also want to consider taking out an insurance policy on the home and its contents, just for even more peace of mind.

I See Youuu!

Prepare The Garden: As is likely to have happened, your garden is probably rather desolate at the moment. This, of course, is perfectly natural for it being winter, and there is little that can be done about that. However, now is a great time to start thinking about preparing the garden for the brighter and warmer months. This might be a simple case of reseeding the lawn, if necessary, or you might even want to turn the land so that the soil has a better chance of enabling plants to grow. Most importantly, think spring with bright and bold flowers and a lovely little bird house for your backyard animal visitors.

The Cleaning Musts That Most Of Us Forget

Standard

With Christmas gone, spring is literally just around the corner. It may be hard to imagine when the days are short and we’re all so cold, but it’ll be here before we know it. That’s why it’s time to turn our attention to spring cleaning once again. We all associate spring cleaning with scrubbing out cupboards and washing the floors. There’s nothing wrong with that. It is, however, important to remember the other things that need attention. Here’s a lowdown on the spring cleaning musts that most of us forget.

Clean The Cleaning Cupboard: We fill our cleaning cupboard, yet how often do we check through what we have? Remember that you’re cleaning your house with the products that you’re storing there! If they’ve gone off, or become contaminated, it’ll affect everything. With that in mind, get cleaning. It’s important to scrub the cupboard itself, too. Cleaning cupboards always end up with a sticky residue (Ew!) from accidents. Don’t allow your cleaning stuff to become infected with bacteria. Keep the space clean!

Keep The Air Clean: It may sound strange, but it’s important that you keep the air in your house as clean as possible. Damp or stale air can cause major health issues if you’re exposed to it for a long time. It can be hard to get your home fresh during the winter, but as soon as the beautiful days come, it’s essential that you get to work.

Throughout the whole year, you can avoid damp air by using a dehumidifier like those reviewed by Dehumidifier Web. During the spring, though, you can take literal air freshening even further. Open windows as often as possible to stop mold growth and staleness. It’s amazing what a difference a breath of fresh air can make. Clean your windows to ensure that they go into summer without any mold spores growing!

Look After The Outside: It’s also easy to forget the outside of the house when we get stuck into the cleaning. Indoors isn’t the only place that needs a little attention once the winter ends. In fact, the outside of your house will need you more, as it will have been exposed to the elements! Getting the house pressure washed will be an instant facelift for your home and is a cost effective way to make your property shine. You can find pressure washing pros by entering a search for “Pressure washing service in the Waynesboro, VA” or your local area. You should also turn your attention to drains and gutters as soon as possible. During the autumn and winter months, they will fill with leaves. Not clearing these could cause a major backup.

Once that job is done, turn your attention to your garden. It’s bound to have suffered through the winter months, so you may have a fair amount of work to do. Start by clearing any dead foliage, then get to working on making the space beautiful again. For the most part, a little clearing up will ensure that your flowers will grow through as they should. Think, too, about when to start cutting the grass. It’s always worth listening out for when your neighbors start doing theirs!

Brush Away The Winter Blues With These Spring-Ready Sprucing Tips

Standard
Brush Away The Winter Blues With These Spring-Ready Sprucing Tips

On the run-up to Christmas, we all love winter. The colder days and snowed in occasions can be bearable, because we’re so full of festive cheer. But, as Christmas winds down, the winter blues can start to kick in. When that happens, all we can think about is the promise of spring, milder days, and the beautiful blooms that go with it.

So, this winter, do things differently. Instead of letting the winter blues set in, beat them away. Think about some of the jobs that you’d usually do in spring and incorporate them into your winter revamp. It’s time to bring the spirit of spring into your home and spruce those winter blues away.

Begin With Basics: There are so many simple home improvements that you can do around the home that make such a difference to the overall look and feel of the place. By adding in a fresh lick of paint or giving everything a good old scrub, it could make your home feel like it’s had a complete renovation. It might seem like a big job at first, but as soon as you get started, you’ll begin to get excited about the result. When winter starts to feel a little stale, a quick clean or redecoration could make you feel so much more ready for spring!

Dress And Showcase: Next up on your home spruce, you’re going to want to show off what you can and work on the rest. Maybe changing up the accessories you have around the home is all it will take to add that little something that you’ve been looking for. Change the accent colors you have in each room or even add more accessories to create a look you’ve had in mind. If you’ve done all you can with the details, you might need to think big. If your furniture is starting to look a little shabby, why not upcycle it? Get a few ideas from Pinterest or on Youtube and sand, paint, and style away until it looks like something you’re proud to show off.

Replace Or Repair: Winter can make you think about the appearance of your home and forget about the functionality. You want it to look great, but glaze over the practical parts. But, if you prioritize them now, you’ll be grateful come spring. It’s so important to stay on top of the functional areas of the home, like your garbage disposal, oven, and even A/C systems. You might just need to give them a clean or routine service or they could need much more. If you require any repairs that need doing or need new appliances installed, now is the time. Ahead of spring, you can iron out all the kinks in your home to make it feel brand new.

Get Outside: It’s common for a lot of yard work to be saved for spring. By why not do it now and get a head start? There are so many garden jobs that you can get done in the winter. In fact, it’s the best time of year to do some things. And, you’ll even give yourself a break come spring as there will be less to do all at once. Then, you’ll have a clean and spruced up home that’s functioning fine and a gorgeous garden to go with it. And how could that not beat away those dreaded winter blues?
