Two Sleepy Doggies

Two Sleepy Doggies

Howdy and TGIF! Monday is my long day at work, and by the time that I get home, all I want to do is get in my jammies, put my dogs up, and watch The Voice with my mom. Normally, my two rescue pups, Gem and Ollie, just want to play all day until everyone else goes to bed, but they must have been just as tired (Or bored with The Voice!) as I was, because they ended up falling fast asleep on the bed with my mom and I. It was so cute I could hardly stand it and I just have to share these Two Sleepy Doggies with all of you:

Lol, so the first picture of Gem is more for me because I think it’s hilarious. But, the other one of her and my little Ollie is just cuteness overload. My dogs are honestly the most perfect creatures on the planet and I love them oh so much. To have them curled up and snoozing away while my mom and I watched a crappy singing contest was the best way to end a long, hard day and it was just what I needed before I went to bed, myself.

How do your pets greet you after a long day? Who are you rooting for on The Voice? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

Is A Change Of Career In The Cards?

Is A Change Of Career In The Cards?

Many of us go about in our working lives in careers that aren’t exactly suited to us. It could be because you were unaware of the options ahead of you, maybe you missed out on getting the qualifications you needed, or due to things like the recession. You simply might have had to take whatever work you could get your hands on at the time. Whatever the situation, it’s never too late to reconsider your options. While changing careers is a huge deal, it’s something that could dramatically change your life for the better.

Your career is a huge part of your life, when you spend eight plus hours a day at your workplace (and have a wage you rely on) a change isn’t something to take lightly. So, before you go ahead, make sure you really do want to make a change. Work out what your reasons are, and be sure that you won’t end up wanting to change again after building yourself up in your new job. In some cases, a complete switch of careers might be what’s needed, but in other cases progressing in your current role could be the way to go.

For example, if you’re already a nurse, studying something like an dnp nnp online will open you up to new and exciting job opportunities. If you think you have a flair for a different type of job, such as PR or Marketing, then you will need the help of a good recruitment agency. They can help you identify any transferable skills from your past job and to brush up your CV to make it more relevant to the work that you want to do. A good agency will also have loads of contacts ready and waiting for new recruits.

It goes without saying that you may have to take a knock to your salary at first. It is vital that you know the minimum amount you can earn without getting yourself into debt or becoming all work, no play because you cannot afford a social life. Work on a good budget and research the expected salaries in your chosen field and within your area. If you can’t make the two work, then you may need to reconsider your options. Don’t let it stop you, though. Be direct and honest with your salary expectations. Tell your agency, if you are using, the lowest you can go and then talk to any potential employers to see if they can accommodate you.

A simpler way of swapping careers could be to cut down your hours at work and take on a part time job. This could give you a boost on your CV and help you balance the finances during a full time change. Even taking a Saturday job in your new field in a volunteer capacity will be useful in changing paths and will show new employers that you are serious and committed.

Finally, don’t let age worry you. While there are lots of bright young things out there as competition, you actually have the edge on them when it comes to proven ability. Even if not through the same industry. You will have references and a more complex CV. Employers know what they’re looking for and they realize potential when presented with it. So be confident and show yourself in the best possible light!

OOTD Time

OOTD Time

Hiii everyone! I have to admit, I have really been slacking on taking updated photos of myself for social media and blogging purposes. However, there have been a few days where I’ve really been feeling myself enough to take some standard mirror pics to feature some OOTDs that I love. Take a looksee:

ootdootd1

Look One:

  • Floral Top: Loft
  • Jeans: TJMaxx
  • Platforms: TJMaxx

Look Two:

Look One was a semi business casual outfit for work. Because I am out in the community and not in an office while working, I can get away with making the outfit more casual than business! I love my bright yellow top from Loft, which looks friggen awesome with my hair and skin. I also love how both the top and my Bamboo brand shoes are both channeling an Oriental vibe, which played off of each other in a really cool way. I was a bit ambivalent about pairing yellow and red together, because all I can think about is ketchup and mustard – but I was very happy with this OOTD and after seeing how I looked, I stopped thinking about the Micky D’s color combo instantly! 😀

On the other hand, Look Two was strictly an outfit for play and it has turned into one of my favorites. I love how the slouchy Harem pants look with the more fitted moto jacket and how my shoes ended up getting tucked under my pants. It created a really interesting silhouette and, even though I was super comfy in this OOTD, I felt totally cool. I rarely dress for comfort, because sometimes it sacrifices the style aspect of a look, but that wasn’t the case at all for this one and I definitely plan on rocking similar outfits in the future.

I live for creating cool outfits, and now I just need to be more dedicated about taking pictures of them! How do you style a business casual OOTD? How about a look for play? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

Mother’s Day Bouquets

Mother’s Day Bouquets

Hi everyone and happy late Mother’s Day to all of the wonderful moms, pet moms, and soon to be moms out there! You are all amazing and thank you for everything that you do – especially my mom! 😉 As a flower loving family, beautiful bouquets were the only way to go this Mother’s Day. Check out these gorgeous blooms and let’s discuss:

mothersmothers1mothers2mothers3

The lavender bouquet seen first is compliments of my dad. He created his gift fresh from the lavender bush (Or tree?!) that he planted in our backyard. They smell divine and the pale purple color is spectacular. My dad planted his lavender when it was just a tiny sprig and now it is a huge, blossoming tree. It looks awesome and will definitely supply us with more bouquets all summer long.

The day lilies and vase are compliments of yours truly. My mom loves lilies and so I thought that they were the perfect flower for her gift from me. I love the dazzling orange and it looks striking against the Air Force blue vase. The butterfly and dragonfly adorned vessel was the last of its kind at the store and I can see why! I think that it is so pretty and I knew that it was something that my mom would love because the simple country style decor is her favorite. And, of course I was right!

We had a wonderful Mother’s Day celebration at my place and I hope that all of you did, too! How did you celebrate Mother’s Day? What is your favorite thing about your mom? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

Six Ways To Achieve An Eco-Friendly Bathroom

Six Ways To Achieve An Eco-Friendly Bathroom

Planning a home improvement project soon? Why not try making your bathroom an eco-friendly space? Your bathroom is the room in the house where water use is the highest. The longer you stay in the bathroom, the more water you use and the more energy for heating, lighting, and ventilating is used, too. This all translates to skyrocketing water and energy bills every month.

With the bleak forecast about global water and energy scarcity, there’s no better time than the present to gradually transform your home into an eco-friendly space; and the bathroom is the perfect place to start. Here are six ways to achieve an eco-friendly bathroom:

Install Low-Flow Faucet Aerators:

Faucet aerators are fixtures that are capped on the faucet opening to reduce water use, control its flow, prevent splashing, and increase perceived water pressure. How does it work? Faucet aerators save water (and therefore, save you money on water bills) by introducing air into the water flow, so there’s less water flowing but still enough to wash things.

With a low-flow faucet aerator, you can reduce rate of water flow from 2.5 gallons per minute (standard faucets) to as little as 0.5 gallons per minute. That’s saving about 80 percent of water every minute the tap is on.

Faucet aerators are affordable and easy to install. You can get one for $5 to $10 dollars, depending on the brand and features added to the aerator. When buying the a low-flow aerator, make sure you have the right size and one that is compatible with your faucet. Installing the new aerator only takes a few minutes. Just unscrew the old one using a wrench, turn on the tap to wash away debris, and cap on the new aerator. Make sure not to apply too much force to avoid damaging your faucet.

Change To A Low-Flow Showerhead:

Do you like taking long showers every day? If the answer is yes, then you’ve found the primary culprit for your skyrocketing water bills. Standard showerheads use from 2.5 to 4 gallons of water per minute. So every time you shower for 30 minutes, you’re using about 75 to 120 gallons of water. That’s 15 to 24 times more water used than the average person in a developing country. (The statistics is 20 liters of water or 5.3 gallons per person.) When you change to a low-flow showerhead, you save one-half to two gallons of water every minute you shower. Of course, this only works well when you cut down on your shower time, too.

Now, if you don’t have a low-flow showerhead but you’re noticing a change in water pressure this could be a sign of a water pump problem. This is something you will want to get looked at by a professional. If you’re handy and experienced with this type of repair, however, you might be able to use a guide like this https://www.ronix.ir/mag/home-water-pump-installation-guide/ to install a new water pump if it’s needed.

Go For A Water-Efficient Toilet:

Old toilets are one of the biggest water wasters in your house. They consume about 3.5 to 7 gallons of water per flush, which is a lot for one use. In contrast, new toilets only use an average of 1.6 gallons per flush. If you want an eco-friendly bathroom, then you may want to switch to a water-efficient macerating toilet. Water-efficient or low-flow toilets save more than regular modern toilets. Some models can go as low as one gallon for every flush. Getting one with a macerating pump also helps with preventing toilet clogging, which saves you from expensive plumbing bills.

If you are installing any new features in your bathroom, it is so important that you hire a professional if you don’t have the skills to do it yourself. Attempting to do so can result in pricey repairs that will waste even more time and money. There are very helpful platforms that can connect you with skilled Local Tradesmen in your local area to take on these jobs for you. Explore these options carefully and do your research so your eco-friendly bathroom will always be performing to the highest standards.

Use Energy-Efficient Light Fixtures:

The bathroom is the place where you do most of your grooming, like shaving and doing makeup. These are delicate activities that need good lighting to avoid injury or mess-ups. However, inefficient light bulbs are some of the chief reasons for high electricity bills.

For places like the bathroom, that require good lighting, use energy-efficient light bulbs. These include compact fluorescent lamps, light emitting diodes (LEDs), and halogen incandescents. Energy-efficient light fixtures can last 3 to 25 times longer than traditional light bulbs and save from 25 to 80 percent more energy, making them the eco-friendly choice.

Not only is swapping out for energy-efficient lighting fixtures a money saver, but it will also give the space a mini makeover. While choosing more eco-friendly options for your bathroom, you might want to do a full fledged remodel altogether. This is something that a professional team should assist you with. To begin researching experts, simply enter a search for “bath remodel twin cities” (or your local area) to transform your bathroom into both an eco-friendly and inviting space.

Switch To An Energy-Efficient Exhaust Fan:

Ventilation is essential to keeping your bathroom clean, odor-free, and mold-free. A constantly damp bathroom is conducive for mold growth. However, when you ventilate your bathroom after use, you remove excess moisture and inhibit the buildup of mold spores.

There are two ways to ventilate your bathroom. You can either open the window and door or use an exhaust fan. An exhaust fan consumes energy and can result in mounting energy bills when used too often. It’s not always ideal to open windows and doors, too. Open bathroom windows may invite unscrupulous people (or bugs) in your home while open doors will just transfer the odor (and whatever else is in the air) into another part of the house.

Since you can’t do away with ventilating your bathroom, you can use an energy-efficient fan. To find one, search for an Energy Star-rated model and get 60 percent energy savings compared to standard vent fans.

Choose Eco-Friendly Cleaning Supplies:

Many cleaning products available in the market today contain harmful chemicals that are dangerous to your health and bad for the environment. Their ingredient includes phtalates present in air fresheners, dish soap, and some toilet papers. Phtalates are harmful to the endocrine system can and reduce a man’s sperm count.

Harmful chemicals, like perchloroethylene (Perc), triclosan, 2-butoxyethanol, and ammonia, attack your health and negatively impact the environment, and they’re common ingredients in many household cleaners.

Avoid these chemicals by opting for eco-friendly products or homemade products that are proven to have no harmful effects. You can consult the non-profit Environment Working Group for a list of cleaning products to avoid.

Take The First Step:

Wasting water and energy has far reaching impact to the environment and the earth’s resources. With global warming, climate change, and scarcity hitting the world in all corners, it’s high time for people to take action to reverse the damage that’s been done to the earth. Converting your bathroom into an eco-friendly space is the first step to building a more sustainable environment for you and your family. Why not start now?

New Black & Lavender Glitter Nails

New Black & Lavender Glitter Nails

Hi! Last week was such a treat for me, because I got to be pampered two days in a row. I finally was able to squeeze time in for a much needed haircut AND, the following day, I got a much needed fill for my talons. Needless to say, I’m really feeling myself. I even decided to throw some glitter like confetti on my claws for something a little different. Maybe it’s the new haircut confidence?! Check it out:

glitterr

Although I will always love my plain black nails and accent nail, I have to admit, this starry night style glitter is a lot of fun. I would even go as far to say that I’m obsessed! This tiny change was so exciting for me that now I’m considering going the matte route on my next fill for something edgy and cool.

It’s amazing what a confidence boost that a good haircut can give you, and I really think that it had something to do with my decision to switch things up a bit. And, even though change is scary for me, I’m not complaining in the slightest! 😀

What color of polish do you have on your nails or toes? What color should I get my accent nail on my next fill? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

Adorable Garden Decor

Adorable Garden Decor

Hi! As you all can tell, I am loving all outdoor everything right now. Part of what comes with that is being friggen OBSESSED with Adorable Garden Decor. This includes garden gnomes, bird baths, wind chimes, pinwheels, the works. But, my favorite outdoor decor as of late has been anything solar powered. I have seen lovely flowers that turn into glowing blooms at night and bird baths that looks like the imaginings of fairy tales once it gets dark out.

At my home, we go for the simpler route and have our front area illuminated by one solar paneled lantern – and it looks awesome! Take a look:

lanternlantern1

I don’t know what it is about this outdoor decor that I love so much. It just looks so sweet to me – like something that should be in a picture book. At night, the lantern is surprisingly bright thanks to being hit by the sun’s rays all day. And, during the day time, it looks cheery and fun because of the chubby little gnome holding his butterfly balloon. It’s two completely different looks as the day transitions to night and I think that they both look great. 😀

Whether one’s outdoor decor is simple or something big and elaborate, it makes me smile all the same! How do you like to decorate your garden? Do you have any solar powered decor in your yard? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

Tiny Target Haul

Tiny Target Haul

Heyyyy! This past week, Target was having a wonderful promotion where you got a five dollar gift card if you bought twenty dollars in self care products including makeup, shaving, skin, hair, and oral care. My mom and I decided to split the lot since she needed to restock on tooth paste and mouth wash and I wound up with these new skin care products:

target!

Although makeup shopping is fun, I live for skin care and trying out new products. I love the St. Ives scrubs more than life itself, and when I saw their newest Coconut & Coffee scrub, I was eager to give it a try. It smells amazing and, according to the container, it offers a deep clean which is exactly what I want when I use a facial scrub. I cannot wait to use this once I finish up the cleansing products that I’m currently using – but, I’m so excited that I might have to try it now!

I also ended up with a bottle of Garnier’s Micellar Cleansing Water, which came with a mini foaming gel cleanser for free. I am finishing up a bottle of Simple’s cleansing water at the moment and I’m not too impressed by it, but my sister loves the Garnier Micellar Water so I decided to go for it. It definitely didn’t hurt that they offered a freebie along with it, either! Regardless of not being blown away by micellar water in general, it’s a lot cheaper than eye makeup remover, so I’m a fan in that regard, for sure.

Has anyone used either of the products above that I purchased? What are your thoughts on them? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

Spring Style Q & A

Standard
Spring Style Q & A

Hey everyone and TGIF! Spring is a wonderful time for all fashion everything, because the winter layers finally get to be shed and an entire new aspect of ones wardrobe gets to be explored. In some ways, styling for spring and summer can be more difficult than fall and winter, because layering is definitely not a thing when the sun is in full blast. That means that you only have one opportunity to create a flattering look without the option of just throwing a jacket on or accessorizing it with a scarf and hat.

I, myself, find that I am floundering with creating warm weather looks, because it sure has been a long time. But, regardless of the above, and the fact that you have to shave more frequently – spring style can be fun! So, I came up with this Q & A to remind myself just why that is:

Q & A:

What is your favorite pattern for spring? Obviously, everyone loves florals for spring. But, that’s so overdone! I find myself really liking polka dots and cherry patterns lately for a touch of flirty vintage fun. Finding a piece of clothing that I like in those patterns has proven to be pretty difficult, though.

What is your ideal spring outfit? I am a huge fan of the maxi dress, so I would have to say one of those paired with a huge pair of platform heels, a hobo bag, and big sunglasses.

What is your perfect spring shoe? I think that mules are perfect for spring, because they’re adorable and functional. But, since I rarely wear flat shoes, I am all about the platform heel during warm weather. They add a touch of funky fun to every outfit and they are super easy to walk in.

How do you accessorize in the spring? I feel like big bags in hobo or tote style are a must for the spring so that you can carry all of your essentials in a cute vessel. Statement jewelry like bangle bracelets, bold necklaces, and dangly earrings always go over well. And, if it’s a bit blustery out, a fashion scarf worn Parisian style looks so chic!

How do you create a pretty spring MOTD? I definitely like a more natural look for spring. Pink eyeshadows and soft blushes always add a sweet touch to any look. And a nude lip is perfect to finish it off. But, a bright colored lippie is always fun, too!

Where do you find the best spring clothes? I will always be a TJMaxx girl at heart, but Express has some gorgeous pieces in their spring collection that I have been eyeing! I wish that it wouldn’t cost me an arm and a leg to get it, though. 😥

How would you describe your spring style? I think that my spring style is way more girly than any other time of the year. But, I will always try to toughen it up a little bit with a moto jacket or oversized flannel if it’s chilly or add in some black among all of the soft colors and fabrics. So, I guess I’d call it a floral rocker type of look. 😀

Do feel free to copy and paste the above questions and answer them on your page to help get your fashion sense inspired for spring!

What is your favorite season to dress for? What about your least favorite? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah
