Holiday Haul: Lillianne Robe Edition

Hellooo everyone and happy 2021! Santa was very good to Lil Red this year and one of my favorite gifts that I received is easily a vampire fang adorned robe by Lillianne from my mom and dad. I have never owned a robe before and as soon as I saw the little number seen below on ModCloth, I had to have it. I’m also not going to lie… I am very jealous of how comfy Johnny always looks lounging in his cheetah print robe! Lol, take a look at some pics and let’s discuss:

333197ED-BE21-4073-B5F9-C69E4ED7EF381C7C58C9-B9CC-4A9F-9F25-2693C584FE9F952EFBF9-CE23-478A-B44B-C0559E3150CD043C503B-10B4-4971-8044-3FFD72210DA42D3A68EB-4488-453E-AEAC-DF4A546F0F65

Now that I think of it, it is kind of crazy that I have never owned a robe considering I have at least one of everything else in the fashion department! I guess I was just waiting for the right one to come along and my Lillianne robe spoke to me. If you are a Lil Red super fan, you will notice that the pattern on this robe is almost identical to one of my tattoos on my shoulder and I was so tickled when that was the first thing that Johnny said about it. 🙂

^^^ Don’t mind the face mask, you can just see my tattoo really well in this pic!

I have basically lived in this robe since Christmas day and my only regret is that I can’t wear it all the time because it is SO. Damn. Comfy. The fabric is nice and soft and it provides an extra layer of warmth without feeling too hot. I love the soft blush color paired with the punchy red and black and the embroidered “Bite me” on the back makes it the perfect robe for me. Not to mention it has really deep pockets to either warm my hands with or put a bunch of snacks in. 😀

My parents knocked it out of the park with this gift and if you see me roaming around Akron, Ohio in my new robe, then just know that I succumbed to the comfort and to mind your business lol!

What is your favorite gift that you received this holiday season? How did you celebrate the holidays? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

5 Small Touches To Make Your House Feel Homely

Whether you are just moving into your first home or are looking to revamp your existing one, making your house a home is not something that happens without your input. It can be hard to know how to make your space look and feel homely. To help you out, we have listed a few small changes that you can make to your home below. Follow these simple steps and your house will start to feel like a home in no time:

Hang some artwork:

Hanging up artwork or photos of loved ones can instantly change your room’s personality. If you have a lot of bare neutral walls in your home, then consider hanging some colorful artwork in its space. Try not to go overboard and clutter up your walls, simple displays scattered across your home will leave it feeling cozy and very chic. For inspiration on how to display your artwork, it’s always helpful to browse on sites like Pinterest.

Declutter:

When trying to make our houses feel homely, we tend to go a little over the top and often end up cluttering up our space. Clutter and untidiness can cause stress and sometimes keep us from getting motivated about revamping our homes. Spend a small bit of time each day decluttering and giving your home a good ‘spring clean’. If you find yourself running out of storage space, then there are many clever storage hacks out there that you can try to keep things neat and tidy.

Bring in the outdoors:

Any room can be made to feel brighter and homier by adding some flowers to it. Not only do they change your aesthetic but they also purify the air. A simple vase full of colorful flowers will do the trick but if you are feeling more creative, then why not create your own terrarium? For a low maintenance terrarium, add in your favorite succulents and place on a shelf or sideboard for everyone to admire.

Plants aren’t the only bit of the outside you could bring in – you could consider incorporating an aquarium into your decor. Having a small aquarium in your home can bring it to life. Don’t forget to decorate Aquarium Plant Earth Bed with bright exotic colors to make it a focal point in your home. If you are thinking about having an aquarium in your home, it is so crucial to do your research beforehand. There is a lot of gear to buy so that your fish can thrive including aquarium air pumps, lighting, water filters, and so much more. It is also important to know the environment and water type that the fish you plan on buying will be healthy and happy in.

Indeed, a bustling aquarium with colorful live fish can create a beautiful focal point in the home. This is also a great opportunity to switch up the decor surrounding the tank. You could go for a classic nautical vibe, use lakefront inspired pieces, or invoke the rain forest with plants and flowers. As mentioned above, there is a lot that goes into a thriving aquarium and it will be more work than you might have originally thought. However, if you are serious about it you will have entertainment, new fish friends, and a revitalized space in your home.

Decorate with pillows and throws:

Every home becomes way cozier when you add in a few pillows and throws. Opt for seasonal colors such as browns, oranges, and blues for winter and autumn and yellows, pinks, and greens for summer and spring. Having these in your living room and bedroom will make you A-okay with curling up for the afternoon with a movie marathon.

Choose a natural palette:

When choosing colors to add comfort into your home, we recommend sticking with natural earthy hues on your walls and floors. This way, you can add small splashes of color within your decor which is easily changeable when you want to switch up the room’s look.

Implement a few of these tips into your design gradually and you will have a house that feels like a home in no time. If you feel inspired to continue working on your home, then find your next project with Quick And Affordable Mini Home Makeovers.

Creating The Perfect Bedroom

Creating The Perfect Bedroom

Every now and then, we get a little bored of our bedrooms and decide it needs a makeover. We have got some small and large tips to get your bedroom looking brand new. Check out our suggestions below:

Declutter:

Marie Kondo your room by getting rid of unwanted items that no longer bring you joy. You will notice how much stuff you have accumulated over the years. Decluttering and making room will help clear your mind too.

Choose a color to stick to:

There is a whole rainbow of colors to choose from, so decide on primary colors that go together and start from there. Don’t forget to choose what color wood compliments your chosen colors the best. And always have a theme in mind, there are many websites you can draw inspiration from.

Rugs:

Whether you have carpet or hard floors, a rug can really pull a room together. Get one that’s large enough to place under your bed but protrudes evenly out on either side. Think plush and cushy fabrics for underneath your feet when you first wake up!

Think about built in wardrobes:

Opting for built-in wardrobes can make your room appear bigger and less cluttered. Find a good place to tuck them away and, to make your bedroom look even more spacious, go for mirrored doors to bounce the light.

Redecorate the walls:

Over time our walls gather marks and fingerprints and are in need of a fresh coat of paint. If you don’t want to change the color, you can repaint your walls the same shade, this will make your room look clean and fresh. For a more bold change, either paint or wallpaper one wall to create a feature wall.

Incorporate mirrors:

As said above, adding mirrors into your room creates light and the illusion of more space. If you haven’t opted for mirrors on your wardrobe doors, find a place for a statement mirror.

Hang art:

Hanging a large piece of art above your bed can be eye catching for anyone who enters. If paintings aren’t your thing, then select a photo and get it enlarged and framed or you can create a collage full of your favorite images.

Choosing your bed:

If you found that decluttering didn’t clear as much as you hoped for, then changing your bed to an ottoman or dividend bed can help. It has handy storage underneath to keep all of your rarely used bits hidden away. If you have managed to declutter, then that queen size bed is all yours and it will be an amazing upgrade to your space and sleep. If you are feeling grande, then why not opt for a four-poster bed? So luxurious!

Decorate the bed:

You can’t go wrong with decorating your bed with the most comfy cushions and throws. Don’t go mad taking up half the bed with cushions, you don’t want it to look overcrowded. Instead, have a maximum of six or fewer.

We hope we have got you excited about creating your perfect bedroom by just incorporating a few of these ideas! For more home tips, check out Getting Your Home In Shape For Cold Weather.

Making Your Home A More Comfortable Space

Making Your Home A More Comfortable Space

Our homes serve so many functions. They provide us with shelter from the elements and warmth. They provide us with somewhere to bathe and eat and with a space to keep our belongings. They are our safe havens and keep us secure. But it’s important to make sure that your home is as comfortable of a space as possible. If you’re going to spend a whole lot of time here, you’re going to want to be able to kick back and relax. The good news is that with a little time, effort, and smart financial investment, you can make almost any home a comfortable and enjoyable space to spend time in. Here are a few ideas that you might like to consider:

Invest In a Good Quality Mattress:

Sleep is essential to your health and well being. There’s a good reason that it’s recommended the average adult gets between seven and eight hours’ worth a night. Sleep gives your body a chance to relax and recuperate and can help with memory retention. Sleep deprivation can make you uncomfortable and can make day to day life extremely difficult and drawn out. There are many factors that play into sleep quality, but mattress quality can be one of them. It’s recommended that you change your mattress once every eight years – used mattresses collect dirt and dust and can provide less support after a few years.

Get Air Conditioning:

Air conditioning can make your house a lot more comfortable during the summer months when the temperature rises and becomes stifling. Sure, it’s an investment that not every home has. But it’s a luxury that can really make a difference and will be worth it! Research different units and determine which will be best for your home setting. You may want to consider air conditioning repair if you have an old unit that has been out of use for a while.

Have Plenty of Seating:

If you’re going to accommodate guests from time to time, it’s important to have enough seating for everyone. A sofa is an essential, but you can buy complementary seating too. A chaise lounge or an armchair can make all of the difference rather than having to sit on the floor or stand when others are over. It’s a good idea to try different styles out in store before buying them so that they are up to your comfort level standards.

Improve Air Quality:

If your home is particularly humid, it can quickly get uncomfortable. A good quality dehumidifier can help with this. Air quality can also be improved by having plenty of houseplants around. Just make sure to opt for types that don’t have too much pollen, as this can worsen any existing allergies. And, always check that the plants you choose are safe for any children or pets you may have.

These are just a few steps you can take to make your home more comfortable, since we’re all spending a lot more time in our dwellings amid COVID-19!

How To Live A Calmer Existence At Home

Standard
How To Live A Calmer Existence At Home

Our homes should be much more than just places to lay our heads at night and store our belongings. It should be the place where we recover the energy that we’ve lost during the day; it should be our retreat from the mania of the outside world. But, of course, this is only in theory: sometimes we find that our homes are just as stressful as public spaces. If you find yourself in this position, then it’s recommended that you take steps to make your home calmer. Take a look at our tips below and turn your home into the ultimate place for relaxation:

Set the Tone:

You should always try to start as you mean to go on. If you’re walking into a chaotic home, then it’ll be little surprise if your state of mind is chaotic while you’re there. Instead, look at making a few small changes to your entrance way. For example, you could look at adding plants, making the space brighter, and having a space for your coat and keys. Setting the tone is about more than getting the space organized, however: it’s about adding those touches that enhance the mood. For example, candles and incense can both make your entrance space much more enjoyable!

Clean and Spacious:

It’s much harder to live a calmer existence when it feels as if our material possessions are piling up all around us, or we’re living in an unclean and all-around disorganized space. As such, one of the best ways to create a better environment at home is to look at taking the minimalist route, and creating a clear and calm space. If you’ve been in your home for a few years, then you’ve probably got more material goods than you really need. So take a look at having a clear out. You can sell the items or, if you know that you’ll need them in the future, you can put them in climate controlled storage. You’ll find that it’s much easier to enter a calm state of mind when you’re not doing battle with all your possessions.

Tech-Free Spaces:

There’s much to love about technology, especially in the home. Who doesn’t enjoy playing video games, watching videos, or browsing the web? However, it’s important to remember that there is such a thing as too much tech in the home. Technology generally isn’t very calming, so if there’s too much of it in your home, then you might find it difficult to really relax. It’s recommended to put together a tech-free room in your house. There, you’ll do nothing but read, meditate, talk, and other activities that help to calm your mind.

Deep Comfort:

Finally, look at upping your home’s comfort levels. Things like new blankets, towels, and bed sheets can really take your home’s comfort credentials to the next level. It’ll allow you to fully sink into all of the cozy goodness that your property can provide, especially during the chilly winter months, when there’s nothing better than curling up on the couch.

Get ready, get set, and relax at home with the tips above!

Happy Valentine’s Day!

Happy Valentine’s Day!

Hello all and Happy Valentine’s Day! For some of us, Valentine’s Day means a romantic date night with your significant other. And, for others, it means a hot date with your couch, pajamas, a box of chocolate, seven bottles of wine, and a chick flick marathon. However you spend your day, Lil Red has got you covered.

We previously discussed the perfect Valentine’s Day makeup for your Valentine’s night out. But, today, it’s all about kicking back and having fun. I absolutely adore coming up with V-Day themed posts and, this year, I wanted to celebrate the two polar opposite styles that are traditionally associated with the day of love. We already got glammed up together and now it’s time to pop a few (or ten) pieces of chocolate and belt out “Love Hurts” like our lives depend on it. Let’s get to it:

sarah-55sarah-58sarah-68sarah-61sarah-69sarah-73

Who? What? Wear?

Featuring: Mini Bret Michaels cardboard cutout!

Does anyone remember that scene in Legally Blonde when Elle gets dumped and she’s laying in bed eating chocolate? With smeared mascara and crocodile tears she hurls her heart shaped box at the chick flick on her TV and screams “LIAR” at the man professing his love. Yes? No? Either way, that was definitely the vibe I was going for in this shoot minus the heartbreak and running mascara, of course!

Yes, this post is about poking fun at the cliches of a Valentine’s Day spent alone but it also is about celebrating it! I, for one, enjoy my own company more than I enjoy being around most people. I had a blast creating the concepts for my V-Day extravaganza on lifewithlilred and I wanted to pass that along to all of you.

Many a Valentine’s Day has come and passed, some with a significant other and some without. And, if you happen to be without this year, so what?! I have always lived my solo dolo Valentine’s Days as the ultimate “treat yoself” occasion of the year. Whether that be going on a shopping spree, getting mani/pedis, or lounging in the comfort of your own home and ordering takeout – A solo V-Day doesn’t have to be a bad thing if you don’t let it.

Let it be known that if I weren’t in an amazing relationship right now, the pictures above are a pretty solid representation of how I would be spending my day. It’s actually a pretty solid representation of how I’d like to spend every day. Riding solo on V-Day? Take some notes from my photo shoot, pop in the Devil Wears Prada, sit back, and enjoy!

How do you plan on treating yourself for Valentine’s Day? What is your favorite chick flick? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

Lil Red’s Cold Weather Ready Tips

Lil Red’s Cold Weather Ready Tips

Hi! With fall in full swing and winter arriving before we know it, there are definitely some tasks that must be accomplished when the cooler weather begins. From creating a cozy atmosphere in your home to prepping your wardrobe and making adjustments to your car, it’s best to be prepared to keep yourself warm and safe all season long. Let’s discuss:

Fill Up Your Tires:

Literally the first thing that the Little Red Love Machine does after the first cold night in Ohio is turn on the check tire light on the dashboard. The cooler temps cause the air in the tires to become denser which, in turn, lowers your tire pressure. So, be sure to air up your tires as soon as your light turns on to keep your gas mileage in check.

Abundance Of Blankets:

There is absolutely nothing better than snuggling up in bed or on the couch with a good movie or book once the temperature drops. Getting nice and comfy cozy after a long day of work always makes me feel better and settling in with something entertaining helps you to forget about all of the frustrations that made your day stressful. Take this one step further by investing in some soft fleece blankets and plush pillows to curl up with and let the movie night commence. 😀

ramonn2

^^^ A Step Brothers inspired blanket is a great place to start!

Wardrobe Prep:

As much as I would like to invest in a whole new wardrobe every time the season changes, it is just not feasible or necessary. Instead, I try to buy a few new pieces that will help me to refresh my closet without breaking the bank. Purchase a handful of key staples like some chunky sweaters, fashionable but practical boots, and a new jacket to make all of your old favorites feel brand new again. Don’t forget to grab some cold weather accessories like scarves and gloves if yours have become too well worn.

Staying comfortable once cold weather strikes is the name of the game so bundle up, enjoy your favorite hot beverage, and keep fashion forward and warm all fall and winter long!

How do you prepare for cold weather? What are fall and winter like in your neck of the woods? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

5 Things That’ll Disrupt Your Property’s Homely Factor

5 Things That’ll Disrupt Your Property’s Homely Factor

Our homes are so much more than simply places to lay our heads at night and store our stuff. They’re where we create memories, feel safe, and feel the love. Or, at least, that’s the idea – the aim is to have a property that feels homey. It should feel like ours, the place where we long to be. And it should feel that way from the moment we pull up to the driveway. Alas, this won’t happen all on its own. We have to work for it, because there are some things that’ll disrupt the homely vibe you’re trying to create. Below, we take a look at five things that’ll do just that:

No Curb Appeal:

You don’t want to pull up to your home after a long day at work and think, “oh, this is my house…” You want to think, “this is my house!” The difference could be in the property’s curb appeal. They say you should start as you mean to go on, and if your front yard is well kept and all-around lovely, then you’ll get those warm feelings as soon as you arrive. Beautiful landscaping is one of the best ways to boost your home’s curb appeal. However, it can be a lot of work or downright difficult if you lack a green thumb. You might want to hire a professional to enhance and maintain your landscape design so your outdoor property looks its best.

Unwelcome Guests:

You’d feel a little uncomfortable if a stranger was living in your home, wouldn’t you? Yet actually, many of us have unwelcome guests in our homes, and they seriously compromise the homely nature of our properties. It’s imperative that every living being at your property is invited to live there. Bugs? Wasps? Bees? You surely didn’t invite them, so get rid of them. And it’s not just the feeling of insects in your home that’s the issue – they can also cause damage: you can learn more at animalcontrolspecialists.com. While prevention is the best way to keep them out of your home, there are effective ways to get rid of them once they’ve made themselves comfortable.

Poor Lighting:

You could work on making your home’s interior beautiful and well decorated and all the rest of it, but if the lighting isn’t right, then it won’t be as homely as it could be. Homeliness is all about feeling comfortable and relaxed, and you’ll find that difficult if there are forever bright lights shining into your eyes. So switch them out for atmospheric side lighting – it’ll help you and your family feel much more relaxed.

Unkempt Corners:

It’s awesome to own a property, but let’s be realistic too – it can be hard work. But it has to be done. You’ll feel ill at ease in your property if there are damaged corners and the dirt is piling up. Make a habit of staying on top of your DIY tasks, and stick to a weekly cleaning schedule.

Lack of Comfort:

Finally, how are your comfort levels? It’s sometimes worth upgrading your couch, bedding, and towels just for the noticeable improvement in comfort that they bring. You’ll feel the difference, especially in the winter, when your home is a pleasant and warm retreat from the chill of the outdoors. Add some hot chocolate, and you’ll be good to go!

Fix up the five points above and turn your house into the homeliest home on the block!

Moving On Up: New Couch Edition

Standard
Moving On Up: New Couch Edition

Helloooo, darlings! During my move in mid-April, I did almost all of my shopping via secondhand and consignment shops. I was happy to do this because not only did it save me a buttload of money but it gave me a lot of unique pieces of furniture and decor that I’m confident no one else will have. I was also bequeathed with some amazing items by some of my client’s families including my beautiful curio cabinets and crystal collection.

The generosity of the families I work with never ceases to astound me and, thanks to one of them, I have a gorgeous new to me red velvet couch for my living room. Check it out:

couchcouch1couch2couch3

Now, don’t get me wrong. I really like my old loveseat that is currently still in my living room until I figure out what to do with it. But, I’m not going to lie, it’s not the comfiest thing on the planet. When I’m reading or watching a movie, I like being able to curl up and relax. My loveseat is quite small and it makes getting the optimum snugly feeling that I require impossible.

So, when the parents of one of my clients began renovating their living room complete with new furniture, I couldn’t say no to the offer of their old couch. It’s funny, because I never even knew that they owned this pretty little number because my client and I don’t spend time in the living room, we are mainly out and about in the community. And, when I first laid eyes on it, it was definitely love at first sight!

I adore the vintage chic shape, the soft and plush velvet material, and, of course, the color! The best part about my new to me couch is that it’s one hundred percent snuggle approved. Because it’s made on a curve, it fits to my body perfectly when I’m laying down and I am reveling in that because it just wasn’t an option with my straight as an arrow loveseat.

And, luckily enough, the couch goes exceptionally well with my furniture that I already had in place. It wouldn’t have been a big deal if it didn’t but the fact that my new couch looks like it should have been in my apartment all along is the cherry on top. My client’s parents were going to donate the couch if I didn’t want it so I am very happy that it ended up in the Lil Red Foundation, instead, and am so totally thankful for their help in making my little apartment the ultimate home. ❤

How is your house or apartment furnished? Do you like a more modern or vintage look when it comes to your decor? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

Fall Haul: Cynthia Rowley Sweater

Fall Haul: Cynthia Rowley Sweater

Greetings! One of my favorite things about fall clothing is getting to break out knitwear again. From cozy cardigans to slouchy sweaters or a hand-knitted scarf, there is nothing better than being wrapped in something warm against the brisk autumn air. I am a huge lover of knitwear because, despite it being so damn comfortable, it always manages looking chic and appropriate for the season. And, the last thing that Lil Red does is dress for comfort, so being enveloped in something so soft and plush is an added bonus.

During my seasonal shopping haul at TJMaxx, I came across the tennis ball green Cynthia Rowley sweater seen below and thought that it was the ugliest thing that I’ve seen in my life. So, obviously, I had to try it on. And, surprising at it was, I fell in love with it as soon as I popped my head out of the turtleneck. Check it out:

cyr1

From the color green that looks like it belongs on the walls of a home back in the 60s to the crisp white squares adorning the sweater, this little number screams mod. Give me a Twiggy vibe and I am all in and this sweater definitely does that for me. What draws me to the clothes and accessories that I purchase is if I’ve never seen anything like it before and that is why I was so attracted to this sweater, even if it did look heinous on the rolling rack.

Before even trying my new Cynthia Rowley sweater on, I had a good feeling about it. Fifty shades of green is very flattering on me and I wasn’t expecting anything different from the chartreuse fabric. And, just one look in the fitting room mirror of the color against my red hair had me sold and infinite visions of styling possibilities washed over me.

I am so looking forward to creating a collegiate cool OOTD to shoot in the campus library of one of the nearby universities in my neck of the woods. School is back in session and I plan on schooling everyone in fall style by pairing this sweater with a smart pair of trousers or an A-line skirt with thick tights and a heeled oxford shoe. Mix in some tweed and a silk scarf around your neck and you’re bound to get an A in OOTD 101!

What is an “ugly” piece of clothing or color that you love? How do you style a back to school look? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah
