To my European readers and the general population – specifically those who reside in Paris:
I love you. My thoughts are with you. I am so sorry that you have to endure such a tragedy in your homeland. Viva France. Much love. -Sarah
Helloooo everyone and welcome to my opinion post on the newest episode of American Horror Story: Hotel, “Room 33”. To be frank, I wasn’t a fan. This episode had me questioning whether or not I wanted to continue watching season five – but fear not, I wouldn’t do that to my readers who tune in to these posts! :*) There was a lot that I just didn’t care for in “Room 33”, so let’s get to it:
Jumpy story lines: “Room 33” was all over the place. The story lines of season five being jumpier than a rabbit on Ecstasy has been one of my complaints since the very beginning, but the newest epi was just too much. We were going from time period, to location, to person, to plot quicker than you could wrap your head around the previous scene. This would all be fine and well if they gave the individual story lines time to develop but that really isn’t happening. In almost every episode we’re introduced to something that could be a potentially cool plot to delve further into but it’s either A) not mentioned again or B) brought up again too late into the season to the point that it feels irrelevant.
Now usually I’m a huge fan of intricate episodes and story lines but there comes a time when it feels like overkill. In almost every episode of Hotel thus far, I feel like Ryan Murphy has bit off more than he can chew. The flimsy plot feels more like unfortunate sloppiness rather than a build up of instances that are going to lead to one major turning point in the season. #whompwhomp
A sub par cast: Sorry, but I’m not blown away by any of the actors in this season aside from Denis O’Hare. Don’t get me wrong, everyone is doing an okay job – but that’s just it, they’re just okay. I haven’t seen one stand out performance by a leading character all season and that’s just unacceptable. Wes Bentley is delivering a similar performance each week, so is Chloe Sevigny (Alex), Lady Gaga, Finn Wittrock – basically everyone. And don’t even get me started on Sarah Paulson. Despite Paulson’s lack of being featured in each episode, I’m still very disappointed in her performance. All of the Hotel tenants just seem very lackluster and dull. If you’ve seen ten minutes of acting from each character, you’ve seen it all.
Murder House similarities: “Room 33” felt like I was watching an episode of Murder House that wasn’t very good. I loved the dead and living interaction in Murder House and I never minded it when it showed up sparingly in Hotel. However, the newest episode revolved around the interactions of the living characters and those who died in the Cortez and I felt like I’ve seen it all before. The episode felt too familiar and not in the good way. I understand that the plot calls for the dead to wreak some havoc on the living in the Cortez. BUT, the dead in “Room 33” were being featured more than the living, which I feel is so unnecessary. Had they cut out some of the scenes with those who passed in the Cortez (IE: the woman in the bath tub) and focused a little more on the characters who are still alive, then the episode might have been more cohesive.
All in all, I’m going to have to give episode six, “Room 33” a rating of: one star. This episode did nothing for me and received such a low rating for dull performances and a plot that was too jumpy to be enjoyable. Better luck on episode seven! #disappointed
I Told You What I Thought, What I Really Really Thought about the newest episode of American Horror Story: Hotel and now it’s your turn! What did you think of “Room 33”? What character would you like to see more of in the next episode? I wanna hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah
Heyyy everyone and welcome to a slightly late synopsis of the newest episode of American Horror Story: Hotel entitled “Room 33”. A lot of new discoveries were made about our hotel guests so let’s get right to it and discuss, starting with the first connection to Murder House that Hotel has featured:
Mama Gaga: “Room 33” starts with a flashback to the 1920’s where we see the Countess walking into the Murder House from season one. The Countess had a bit of a baby problem and went to seek out the abortion doctor, who a friend recommended to her. The doctor started up the procedure with no questions asked and everything seemed to be fine and dandy until he and the nurses realized the baby was still alive. The baby attacked the nurse and the doctor handed it to the Countess who is now the new mother of a baby boy, Bartholomeo. The Countess loves her baby very much and goes to visit him every night in the hotel, donned in ethereal gowns with her hair flowing. Baby Bartholomeo is a tenant in the Cortez as well, residing in room 33.
An unlikely couple: In “Room 33” we are introduced to a new Cortez power couple, Tristan and Liz. We find the love birds having a nice little romp and afterwards they share some touching sentiments to each other. Tristan asks Liz if she loves him to which miss thang replies, “I don’t know. I think so – but goddamn it who can tell when you’re so damn handsome!” Tristan then confesses his love for Liz, but is adamant about reminding her that he’s not gay. Liz then reassures him that when he’s with her, he’s with a hetero girl and begins to cry, “thank you for seeing the girl”, he tells his lover. All of these sweet words are really moving and all but the new pair better look out because the Countess might not take it very well!
John Lowe continues to unravel: Tonight we saw John at his worst, thanks to some assistance from his soon to be ex-wife. John’s episode journey begins when he wakes up to find his son, Holden, laying next to him. “Hi, daddy”, his little boy says and then runs off to the coffin room. By the time John gets there he finds Holden, Alex, and the other vampire children asleep in their designated coffins and then proceeds to faint. (#overdramatic)
Alex, who doesn’t want John to know just yet about her and Holden’s condition decides to give him something to knock him out and gets him back into bed. While John is conked out, Alex enlists the help of Liz to move the coffins so that John doesn’t end up finding them. When John wakes up again he tells Alex about what he saw and his ex plays it off like the visions that he’s been having are because he’s making Scarlett’s memories his own. She then tells John that she thinks that he’s having a mental breakdown and suggests that he gets help. John, however, is not feeling this reaction and takes Alex to the coffin room only to find that they are no longer there. #ohyoucraftyhuh
A very Ramona revenge: Fan favorite, Ramona Royal, is featured in this episode with her partner in crime, Donovan. The duo has returned to the Cortez to “take care of those kiddies”, meaning the vampire children as well as the Countess’s darling baby Bartholomeo. Ramona is ready for action but Donovan has been overcome with an overwhelming urge to sniff the Countess’s panties, so he ends up going to her suite while Ramona seeks out the children in the coffin room…But just as John found out, the kids are no longer there.
While Ramona is in the coffin room, she is joined by Iris, who is there to help commit the deed. “This is no place for children”, Iris says to justify the murders. Ramona is furious by the discovery of the children missing from their sleeping chambers because she knows just how badly their deaths will hurt the Countess because they’re her “reason for living”. But Ramona knows that there’s one more thing that she can do to make her visit to the Cortez worthwhile…kill Bartholomeo. Ramona then asks Iris for the key to room 33 and goes about her business.
RIP: Liz has finally worked up the courage to tell the Countess about her affair with Tristan. “I don’t think you love him…like I do”, she says. “Interesting”, the Countess replies. She then gives Liz a friendly reminder that she doesn’t share but suggests that they go talk to Tristan together. Once they are all in the same room as a majorly awkward trio, Tristan goes into a powerful monologue about how the Countess only likes getting people to fall in love with her just to drop them completely. This seems to hit a cord with the Countess and she shockingly is agreeable. “Fine, you may have him”, she says to Liz. She then bends down to kiss Tristan on the cheek and then proceeds to slit his throat. “He’s yours. Bury him”, she hisses and walks away. #badbitch #jealoussss
Baby Bartholomeo: As mentioned earlier, things are not going too hot for our Detective John Lowe. He is drinking heavily, Scarlett has been ignoring his calls, and he feels rejected by his former job and Alex. His wife can tell that things are continuing to go increasingly wrong for John, so she issues the help of the two foreign dead girls from the season premiere who were in search of Universal Studios.
A quick interaction in the hallway between John and the girls immediately leads to a menage-a-trios…Sweet! But not exactly, because things get really bloody really quick, thanks to the girls cutting and scratching at each other. John has a whack attack and then runs butt-ass-neked and covered in blood into the hotel lobby and spews some nonsense at Liz. He then returns back to his room, packs his bags, and gets the hell out of the Cortez – which is exactly what Alex wanted.
John returns back to his home with a moody Scarlett, whom he picked up from grandma’s…and a baby Bartholomeo? Yes, it appears Baby B escaped when Ramona entered his room in the hopes of killing him and he found his way into John’s suitcase as a tiny little stowaway. John begins to unpack his belongings when he hears Scar crying so he goes to her room to tend to her. Once he is done comforting his daughter he returns to his suitcase and finds that all of the clothes have been dumped out and scattered about. Suspicious and paranoid, John gets his gun – just in case. Once John is armed, he heads down to the living room and is relieved to find Scarlett on the couch enjoying some cartoons. This relief is short lived, however, when he sees a “monster” crawling around from across the room. He approaches with caution, cocks his gun, and begins to shoot.
Naturally, this terrifies Scarlett and after a visit from a former coworker of John’s and Alex, she heads back to her grandma’s. Alex sticks around after Scarlett leaves to suggest to John, once again, that he gets help. Once Alex has said all she needs to say, she turns to leave but hears some rustling in the bushes, which she goes to investigate further. The episode ends with the Countess finding Alex tending to Bartholomeo in room 33. “You saved my son”, the Countess states. “You saved mine”, Alex retorts. She hands the Countess her son and exits and we then see a brief glimpse of the baby boy’s face which is so small. His skin looks plastic and he doesn’t have a mouth. #BabyB

Heyyy everyone! There’s going to be a slight change of plans for tonight’s American Horror Story: Hotel post because I’m feeling like ass right now. Of course I’ll be watching the epi and taking my notes but I’m in desperate need of a good nights sleep. In a perfect world, I’ll be able to get right to bed afterwards and get rid of this little bug that I’ve come down with. Sorry for the inconvenience! Much love. -Sarah
^^^ Thanks, Ryan.
Hellooo everyone and happy Hump Day! Throughout my time at Tri-C, I’ve had a similar encounter with almost every single one of my professors, whether they be in class or online. A common theme of my interactions with them is that at some point during the semester they make it a point to tell me that it’s a pleasure to have me in the class. It may seem like a little thing but boy does it make me feel good!
After I received my all time favorite “you’re a pleasure to have in my class” compliment via email from my French teacher this week, I felt so proud of myself. I then proceeded to go down memory lane and think of all of the times that I’ve been told that (I hate to brag) during my college career and got even more warm and fuzzy. What is it about those simple words that gave me a huge burst of self confidence?
I guess it has to do with:
I’m a firm believer in the power of words and the fact that my professors have taken a brief moment out of their busy schedules to let me know that I’m alright in their book is something that really brightens my day. Interactions like these remind me of how important it is to offer a kind word, compliment, or a little something extra to help improve someone else’s day as well. So just as a friendly reminder to all of you: You’re all fantastic wonderful people and I hope that you’re having a great day! 🙂
Make sure you tune in with me tonight after the airing of the newest episode of American Horror Story: Hotel for my synopsis post and then check back in with me on Friday for What I Really Thought, as well! Until then, what is your favorite compliment that you’ve ever received? What is your favorite compliment to give people? (“Nice ass” doesn’t count!) I wanna hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah
My dear friend, Sarah’s, Trades Of Hope party is still happening! Make sure you check it out below!
Hellooo everyone and welcome to a very special article here on lifewithlilred about a wonderful company that one of my good friends works for, Trades Of Hope. I had the pleasure of sitting down with Sarah White to discuss her work with the company and some of her favorite accessories that are offered through her Trades Of Hope party to kick start the holiday shopping season. For those of you who don’t know, Trades Of Hope employs women artisans in third world countries so they can earn a fair living wage to help provide for themselves and their families. Take a look at part of our interview conducted by yours truly and then stick around to see some of Sarah’s gorgeous fall favorites:

Helloooo everyone and happy Tuesday! Good news: I’m feeling much better after this past weekend’s concussion catastrophe and now everything is smooth sailing as usual. My fall semester at Tri-C will be done in about a month or so and let me tell you, I am SO ready for it! I have officially hit the end of semester slump so hard to the point that I had to motivate myself with buying a Starbucks drink yesterday before class to get myself to go, haha it’s that bad! 😉
I’m currently taking French I, Comparative World Religions, and History of Civilization this semester and have already completed a half semester Ethics course. My classes are alright for the most part aside from History. It’s a half a semester course as well and I have such an ungodly amount of homework to do each week for it…It sucks. I do like history, but the only reason I decided to take the class was because it was a prerequisite for a course specifically about WWII, which is my favorite thing to learn about. But unfortunately, when I went to schedule my spring classes I found out that the course was not offered online and it can only be taken on a campus that’s even farther than the forty minute drive I already make to my campus. I was SO PISSED! Had I known that, I would have never signed up for the history class to begin with and stuck with something that I really enjoy like Psychology or Theater.
Speaking of the spring semester, I am very excited for the classes that I registered for last week. I’ll be taking French II, Abnormal Psychology, and Introduction to Criminology. I’m looking forward to continuing my work in French and I’m lucky because my current French professor is teaching French II and I just love her! It will definitely be nice to be able to pick up where we left off in the fall. As I mentioned earlier, I love Psychology so I was so excited to see that Tri-C offers a course on all of the strange and unusual that goes on in the brain with Abnormal Psychology. I also was pretty pumped to see that an Introduction to Criminology course was offered from a sociological stand point so it was a no brainer to sign up for that too!
Other than my semi-boring history course, my fall semester has treated me very well. I’ve been repping straight A’s for days and made myself an awesome spring schedule to look forward to next semester! Then by the end of next fall, I’ll be officially graduated with my Associate of Arts degree! Yippy!
You know how I said my history course has an ungodly amount of homework? Yeah, this post may or may not be a procrastination tactic on that so I guess I should probably get to it! I hope all of you are having a fantastic week so far! Where are all of my college kids at? How is your fall semester going? I wanna hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah
Hellooo everyone and happy Monday! Unfortunately, I didn’t have the best of weekends because Lil Red suffered from a concussion on Thursday night. Homegirl was not feeling too hot thanks to the most random head injury of all time and now I’m here to tell you all about it! Let’s discuss:
One thing about me is that I sleep like the dead. I usually stay in the same position all night and am completely out like a light once I’m asleep. But on Thursday night, my body decided to do a switch up on me and make me the biggest roley poley of all time in my sleep. I think it might have had something to do with the dream that I was having…
I dreamt that I was in an enchanted Walmart where everything in the store was HUGE – we’re talking gigantic! I was running around throughout the store trying to rescue all of the silly minions from Despicable Me who were captured by Kathy Bates? Haha, yeah, Kathy made a cameo in my dream, too. She was in character as Iris from American Horror Story: Hotel and she was some sort of evil sorceress who kidnapped all of the minions, so it was up to me to return them to Gru, their rightful owner. Things were intense in my dream – I did more physical activity in it than I’ve ever done in my entire life! I was starting to get the hang of it until…
SMACK! CRACK! POW!
I woke up from my head whacking the arm rest of my bedside chair while I was rolling off of my bed. (I must have been rolling under an obstacle in my dream!) The chair by my bed is nice and comfy in the middle but the arm rests are hard as hell and once my head smacked it at full force I was jolted awake. I found myself on my bedroom floor in a sea of blankets and a world of pain. I got myself up to go to the bathroom and assess the situation and as soon as I started walking I knew that something was wrong because I was so dizzy I could barely make my way down the hall. I vividly remember thinking to myself “I wonder if I have a concussion” and then I found my way back to my bed and fell asleep.
On Friday morning I woke up with a pounding in my head that felt like I was getting hit with a hammer. I went to the bathroom and from just the short walk to the loo and back to my room I felt so faint and lightheaded that I had to get myself back in bed. My vision was blurred and it kept going dark and hazy and my stomach felt nauseous. I called my mom who is a doctor to tell her what happened as well as my suspicions that it was a concussion and she told me that I was probably right. Then I consulted Dr. Web MD and my symptoms matched a lot of the ones that were listed as well. Great. -__-
I was officially concussed and was ordered by my mom and Web MD to stay in bed because rest is the best thing that you can do for a concussion. Most of my weekend was spent laying around feeling like ass and also feeling sorry for myself. I got my injury in the strangest way and it left me with symptoms that felt almost flu-like. It was the antithesis of fun and head injuries are NO JOKE. I was so shocked by how awful one blow to the head left me feeling. I guess I’m going to start sleeping in a crib from now on to prevent any further instances of rolling off of my bed! Haha, #FML.
So there you have it, this week’s Monday Update: Ain’t That A Kick In The Head Edition. Thankfully, I’m feeling much better, but Lil Red was definitely hurtin’ these past few days! What was everyone up to this weekend? Anything exciting? I wanna hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah
