Early Fall OOTD

Early Fall OOTD

Hello everyone and welcome to a brand new OOTD here on lifewithlilred!! The weather in Ohio is slowly making its way towards fall like temps. The mornings and evenings are chilly, but it still is getting close to the eighties during the daytime. With this fluctuation between fall and summer temps it can be hard to decide what to wear. So, I decided to create an Early Fall OOTD to make the most of the weather, whether it is warm or cool! Check it out:

image_50727169(9)image_50732289(2)image_50456065(5)image_50460161(7)image_50767617(1)

Who? What? Wear?

Ivory Sweater: Jessica Simpson, TJMaxx

Floral Crop Top: Altar’d State

High Waisted Skinny Jeans: American Eagle Outfitters

Barbie Pink Platforms: Marc Fisher, TJMaxx

The bracelet ring is from Claire’s and I have no idea where the earrings are from lol

When I began styling my Early Fall OOTD, I already had my Jessica Simpson sweater in mind. It is brand new and I couldn’t wait to wear it! A sweet sweater or cozy cardigan is also an ideal way to go when creating an outfit for a questionable temperature. All you need to do is slip it off or on at your convenience! An important thing to note about this layering piece is to make sure what you have on underneath still forms a cohesive look in case you want to take it off. The rest of the OOTD still matters even if it’s covered up at first!

With the sweater already a must for my outfit, it was onto forming the rest of the base. I pulled from the creamy color of the sweater and chose a lavender crop top with white flowers from Altar’d State. This crop top is cute as can be and is a great piece to keep cool in once the day begins to warm up. Remember when you are layering that you never want two heavy pieces together – IE a thick sweater underneath a cardigan. All this does is create width. This crop top was just right for underneath my sweater because it laid comfortably without competing in color, shape, or style.

Since the top half of this look was oh so sweet with the soft colors and florals, I wanted to edge things up with the jeans. I went with my distressed high waisted skinnies from American Eagle Outfitters to help the cause. The high waist complimented the crop top and sweater alike because its waistline hit close to where both of the hemlines ended. The huge holes in these jeans also provided some extra ventilation in case the day started getting hot!

With the base of my Early Fall OOTD settled, it was time for shoes and accessories. For shoes, I put on my Marc Fisher platforms. I thought the Barbie pink heels paired with the lavender crop top looked darling. It also matched my nails beautifully! To complete the look, I chose a pair of dangly owl earrings and my ring bracelet. I didn’t feel the need for too many pieces of jewelry since my arms were covered by the sweater for most of the day. I also didn’t want to take away from that fabulous square neckline on the crop top!

The beginning of fall is the time to give those summer clothes a final hurrah and I consider that mission accomplished for my Early Fall OOTD. This blended look of seasons was exactly what I needed to keep me both warm and cool throughout the day!

When do you put your summer clothes away for the season? What is your favorite sweater or cardigan like? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

New Jessica Simpson Sweater

New Jessica Simpson Sweater

Hello!! Johnny was a real champ during our Labor Day shopping trip at TJMaxx. I, admittedly, spent forever looking for skin care, perused through Halloween goodies, and tried a bunch of clothes on and he only complained a little. What a guy!! It was a glorious sight in the clothing departments at TJs because it was filled to the brim with fall clothing. There were cute cardigans, warm jackets, and snuggly sweaters galore. I was originally shopping for an outfit to wear to an event that Johnny and I will be attending soon. I couldn’t find jack, but ended up walking away with this gorgeous sweater by Jessica Simpson:

image_50385665(4)image_50404865(4)image_50412289(6)image_50413313(4)

I am a highly experienced shopper and with that experience comes knowledge. When I see a piece of clothing, I know almost immediately if it will work well for me or not. Nine times out of ten, I am right and these pieces end up coming home with me. It’s a gift, really. When I saw this lovely, ivory hued sweater, I gasped. I have never seen anything like it with those beautiful raised flowers and could have bought it without even trying it on. Like I said, I just know!

On the off chance that I was wrong about this sweater (obviously I wasn’t lol), I tried it on anyways and loved what I saw. This sweater is perfect. The color is so creamy and rich, it’s soft as can be, and offers endless styling possibilities. It hits right at the top of the waist, which makes it an ideal candidate with high waisted skinnies. It could be worn over top of a sweet dress, paired with a skirt, or even with a jumpsuit to extend those fun summer staples into fall. This sweater can be worn with any color or anything and it’s exciting to find pieces that are so versatile. 😀

I cannot wait to feature this little Jessica Simpson number in an upcoming OOTD so keep your eyes peeled for it. Hurray for fall clothes!!!!

Are you revamping your wardrobe for fall? What are you shopping for? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

TJMaxx Skin Care Haul

TJMaxx Skin Care Haul

Hello!! On Labor Day, I had the potential to go into work but as luck would have it, I had the day off. Johnny and I made the most of our free day by visiting his parents, going grocery shopping at Aldi, and shopping at TJMaxx. I was fresh out of moisturizer and needed to do a restock of my beauty hoard. And, of course, I never say no to early holiday shopping and treats like a gorgeous new sweater you will see tomorrow! The skin care department was severely lacking during this trip, but I managed to walk away with the following:

image_50430977(6)image_50452993(4)

Normally, it doesn’t take me long to pick out skin care when I’m at TJs. I know which brands I like and are cruelty free so it’s just a matter of locating them and filling up my cart. This time around, I couldn’t find any of my go to brands! I was really hoping to find another jar of the Rescue Me moisturizer by goodhabit, but it was nowhere to be found. To add salt to the wound, the majority of the selection was from brands that weren’t cruelty free. I spent SO long going through all of the moisturizers and serums and coming up empty handed. Not that I mind the thrill of the hunt for skin care, but even I was getting annoyed!

For moisturizers, I ended up with three jars that I probably wouldn’t have bought if the pickings weren’t so slim. I’m sure they will be fine and maybe I’ll end up liking them, but I am always partial to a gel based moisturizer! These were the literal only cruelty free ones I could find and were relatively cheap at six bucks a pop so what can you do? I also found a serum that I am kind of interested in trying out with all of that shimmer. I love a touch of glitter and I’m hoping it will bring a pop of brightness during the grey months of fall and winter.

One final thing that caught my eye was some floss picks, which I also happened to be running low on. Rather than making a separate trip to Giant Eagle for them, I thought I’d give these plant based picks a go. You never know what you’ll find at TJMaxx! I have taken my oral health very seriously since my raging success at my last periodontist appointment. Floss picks have become a must have staple for me and it makes me feel good to be taking much better care of my teeth. I’m just hoping these plant based picks will be as durable as the ones that I usually use!

Am I thrilled with this TJMaxx Skin Care Haul? Not particularly and it was a very lackluster showing on TJ’s part. On the bright side, these are all new to me products and it’s always fun to test out new brands. We’ll see what happens!

What are your must have beauty products? What is your favorite cruelty free brand? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

Early Holiday Shopping Pro Tips

Standard
Early Holiday Shopping Pro Tips

Hello!!! I constantly have Halloween on my mind, but I am also thinking about the holiday season something fierce. With a big family to shop for, I like to begin my Christmas shopping early and have already begun as of last month! The mere thought of last minute holiday purchases gives me anxiety and come December, I love being able to fully enjoy the season thanks to a fully complete shopping list. If you are an early holiday shopper too or are trying to get a head start for the first time, here are some of my pro tips:

Make your list:

Before I begin my holiday shopping, I write out a list of everyone I need to shop for. Then, I add vague gift ideas and the hobbies of each giftee for inspiration. This is one of the most obvious tips, but it really does help! With gift ideas clear in my mind, I can then pick up items that fit the bill in stores I’m already going to go to like TJMaxx and Target. Without a solid game plan, it makes it easy to pass by options that would be perfect. Chances are that if you think about it after the fact, the gift you could have bought will be out of stock.

Establish a budget:

After making my list, I create a budget that works for me. This usually looks like “spending X amount per person” and I tend to follow the formula of one bigger gift and a few smaller ones. Of course, I may go over or under budget a little and that’s okay! Having clear guidelines established through a shopping list and budget sets you up with a perfect game plan before you start shopping. A strict budget will also keep you from overspending, which is SO easy to do during the holiday season!

Make the most of rewards:

Every little bit helps during holiday shopping and rewards programs are my best friend. For example, I stockpile my points on Amazon that I receive from my credit card throughout the year. By the time I’m ready to start purchasing presents, I can get some of them for free! If you are a gift card giver, your grocery store might offer bonus points on your rewards card like mine does. The moral of the story? Learn about the rewards from each place you plan on shopping at and other stores too. Just by signing up, you can usually get a free product or a percentage off of your first purchase. Even if you never shop there again, it’s great to get deals and you can give yourself some extra wiggle room on your budget.

Peck away:

What helps me the most with managing my budget is making purchases here and there. While I might do some bigger hauls later in the season, I try to buy a handful of gifts each month leading up to the holidays. There is nothing worse than being stuck with a huge bill and breaking up your buying into pieces eliminates that possibility. Throughout September until mid November, I peck away at my list and then do a bigger order or shopping trip for the remainder of what I need. This has always worked really well for me!

My heart says Halloween, but my mind says shopping smart for the holiday season. All of the tips above are what I use to make my early holiday shopping successful. There is nothing better than being done way ahead of time! 😀

Are you an early or last minute holiday shopper? What are some of your holiday shopping pro tips? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

Watercolor Weeping Willow Pt. 2

Watercolor Weeping Willow Pt. 2

Hello! This past Tuesday, I spent a lovely afternoon painting with my mom. I wanted to revisit doing a watercolor weeping willow to see if I could improve upon my last one. Like my last effort, I am not especially pleased with what I came up with. However, I do think there were a lot of things on an individual basis that were good. The big picture was just meh, though. Take a look at my latest watercolor creation and I’ll tell you what I did like about it:

image_50366209(1)

What bothers me the most about this picture is that I didn’t get full weeping willow vibes from it. I think it’s actually a pretty decent tree, but it wasn’t the tree I wanted lol! I do like the trunk that I made quite a bit and I thought that the color I mixed up for it was great. I also am a fan of the overall color palette that I established. To achieve it, I did a lot of mixing of greens, yellows, blues, and browns. It’s a lot of fun to create your own colors and see what you come up with!

The thing that I am happiest with about this weeping willow is that I think I am getting a more firm grasp on creating the signature “tendrils”. For my other attempt, I did a lot of brush strokes that weren’t blended the best. This time around, I did a really light base coat over the tree and patted it dry. Then, I painted waterlines and applied some paint to the very top of the line. After I had my trail of water, I held the paper up and let the paint run down. This was the closest I got to a tendril and I think that I’ll be onto something if I do smaller waterlines the next time. 😀

As with all of my watercolor paintings, this “weeping willow” is not the best. It doesn’t have to be, though! It’s always nice to spend time painting with my mom and after every sesh, I have new ideas to try. The outcome wasn’t successful, but the fact I tried and am more than willing to try again is a GREAT SUCCESS!!

What is your favorite kind of tree? What should I try painting next? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

Lil Red’s Book Club: Sacrifice Of The Season By Daryl Parker Edition

Hello everyone and welcome to a brand new edition of Lil Red’s Book Club! Without giving any spoilers away, as always, we will be discussing Sacrifice Of The Season by Daryl Parker. This book was a gift from Johnny because the author is someone we are very familiar with. Daryl Parker was a former contestant on season two of Top Shot! Lol when we learned he was a novelist, I just had to read whatever it was he created. Surprisingly to both me and Johnny, Sacrifice Of The Season is a full blown fantasy novel! Before we begin our discussion, I will be placing a trigger warning on this read for general violence. Now, let’s get to it:

image_50458881(6)

John’s beloved Grandpa Jack is dying. He can’t pass away without telling one last story, though, and it is an important one. John’s brother died mysteriously in their youth and Jack claims to know how. He also must leave one final quest to John that he cannot complete himself. To understand fully, Jack needs to tell John about his own strange and fantastical youth. A childhood of adventure, goblins, and unlikely friends. It all began in Cobbs, West Virginia…

Young Jack lived with his entrepreneur father, doting mother, and little sister Abigail in Philadelphia. The patriarch, Thomas, invested in Cobbs as it was an up and coming mining town and it was an offer too good to pass up. So, the family uprooted their life in the city to the frontier town of Cobbs where his father would oversee the mines. Cobbs is nothing like Philadelphia and Jack notices how odd the townsfolk act towards him and Abby. They are rude to the point of being cold to Jack and simply adoring of Abby.

As the family settles into their new lives, Jack adjusts and even makes friends with a boy in the mining camp. He also takes a shine to one of the helpers at the mine, Lucius, who has one blind eye and a horribly disfigured arm. During one of their excursions to ship product, Lucius warns Jack to trust no one in Cobbs. Jack had no idea what this was in reference to, but he was soon to find out.

At the annual harvest celebration in Cobbs, a game called Fox Hunt is played by the children. A name is called and that child is the “fox”. All of the other kids are hounds and they must find the fox. This year, little Abby gets the honor of the fox and beelines for the corn fields to evade the other children. Abby is but five years old and can’t get too far and Jack immediately feels concern when she isn’t found quickly. As the minutes pass by, none of the other kids can find her either. Abby has seemingly disappeared without a trace.

Thomas calls for a search party and a handsome reward for anyone who brings Abby home safely. Jack’s mother is beside herself and he wants to make himself useful by joining the search. But, first, there is someone he must talk to. Someone who knows Cobbs better than anyone and its potentially dark secrets. Lucius. Yes, Lucius knows exactly who or rather what took Abby and he knows first hand the danger she is in because he experienced it himself when he was a boy. Abby is in another world altogether. A world called Lumis.

Lumis is the land of the Ba’ath. They are Mother Nature’s right hand men and women and served as consultants to humans from the beginning of time through their infinite wisdom. As centuries passed, some members of the Ba’ath grew bitter towards mankind who would not take their advice and create great catastrophe. These members formed their own alliance based on the desire to cleanse the human world. They also need help with their bidding and summoned terrible wights as well as transformed children into goblins to assist in the cause.

Lucius explains that Abby is still alive, but she is not herself. To bring her back to Earth as the little girl she once was, the creature who transformed her must be slain. Time is of the essence as the rogue Ba’aths solidify their plans to overtake mankind and are all but ready to perform their spell. Their quest is dangerous and could be an instant death sentence for Jack, Abby, and Lucius. However, they must try. Will Jack and Lucius succeed and save life as they know it? Read Sacrifice Of The Season to find out!

As you can probably tell, this book is definitely not what I would normally read. I’d be a liar if I said I didn’t enjoy it though! In fact, Sacrifice Of The Season was so different than what I read that it had me hooked lol. I couldn’t wait to open it up and continue hearing the tale of the magical and deadly in a small frontier town. Yes, it was far fetched to the point of almost being goofy. But, it was still a good story none of the less.

I was actually fairly impressed with Daryl Parker’s writing chops. He was able to emulate an old mining town perfectly and it felt like I was right there with Jack in Cobbs. Yes, this book was riddled with typos as I expected it to be. BUT, it was still a good story none of the less! If Parker’s writing wasn’t as good as it was, Sacrifice Of The Season could have been a failure of epic proportions. It wasn’t and I’m honestly eager to read the next book of the series.

Part of the success of Parker’s writing was through the characters he created. It was easy to love Jack who was so brave and would have gone to the ends of the Earth to save his sister. He did one better and went into an entirely different dimension! Gruff Lucius was also a very successful character and it was exciting to read every twist and turn of their quest. They were an unlikely pair, but they complimented each other beautifully.

Overall, I am going to award Sacrifice Of The Season with a six out of ten stars. It was much better than just average and I consider it an excellent try at a first novel. If you are looking for a new fantasy read or if you just love the show Top Shot, I’d highly recommend it!

Who is a random author that you love? What is your favorite fantasy novel? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

Hello everyone and welcome to the blooper reel from my YAS In Yellow OOTD! Despite the fact that I am in a perpetual state of fall and have already begun my Christmas shopping, it is still hot, hot, hot in Ohio. In yesterday’s post, I mentioned how my dress from Target shrunk in the wash. It only came up in length a few inches, but I knew what happened and I just never wore it again. When I tried it on for the first time in forever, I was pleased to see that it wasn’t as bad as I remembered it being. However, it still felt a little short. I would be a liar if I said that I wasn’t a tad self conscious about it, but I kept on wearing it anyways.

After having the dress on for a while and seeing myself looking awesome in it, I realized that I shouldn’t be self conscious at all. My logic? I have shorts that are shorter than this dress and I have been wearing them all summer long! When I thought about it that way, I went from self conscious to self confident. The moral of the story? This is something that I say often, but it needs repeated: Wear the clothes. If something is putting you out of your comfort zone, wear it anyways. Of course, there are exceptions to this golden rule – but nine times out of ten it will do you a world of good to rock that look!

Thanks to my YAS In Yellow OOTD, my old favorite dress turned into my new favorite. I took my own advice and it definitely paid off!

What is something about clothing that makes you feel self conscious? How do you remedy it? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

YAS In Yellow OOTD

Hello everyone and welcome to a brand new OOTD here on lifewithlilred! Even though it has been hot as BEJEEZUS for the past several days, I have been in a complete fall state of mind thanks to my new hair. During last week’s OOTD, I created an outfit to fully compliment my new do and I loved how it turned out so much that I wanted to go that route again. I also want to take all of the opportunities I can to wear dresses without tights before the weather gets too cold! Take a look at this look and let’s discuss:

image_50726401(3)image_50772225(1)image_50732289(1)image_50760449image_50739201(4)image_50731009(4)

Who? What? Wear?

Yellow Floral Dress: Xhilaration, Target

Denim Platforms: Bamboo, TJMaxx

Double Strand Earrings: I think these are from Target?

Can we all just talk about how great dresses are for a minute? They are one of those pieces where literally all you have to do is throw it on and you have an outfit. Also, bonus points if the dress has pockets like the one I’m wearing in this OOTD! It feels so weird to not see a huge list of clothing and accessories under Who? What? Wear? but I simply didn’t need anything more than what I had. That’s the power of a patterned dress because the last thing a bold print needs it to be bogged down with anything extra.

After rocking a navy blue dress last week, I decided to show attention to another color in my hair – Pulp Riot’s Satire. This yellow shade is my absolute favorite and it feels perfect for the last days of summertime and the approaching fall season. I mentioned in the Fabulously Fall OOTD that I thought the dress I was wearing shrank but, alas, it wasn’t the one I had on. It was actually the Target dress I have on in this shoot lol.

After assessing my options, I decided to try the lovely yellow frock to see if it was as badly shrunk as I remember it being. Happily, that wasn’t the case even with platforms on so we were in business! I love this dress so much and I have yet to find anything similar to it in stores. This dress is old as dirt, but it still feels brand new – especially since I just didn’t wear it for years straight lol. Of course, the color is great but there is so much more to this little number than that. The bell sleeves, for example? Darling! The burnished gold buttons down the front? Adorable! Flowy A-line skirt? Too cute! This dress is a statement in itself and when you break down why, it makes sense to style the rest of the look minimally.

For shoes, I went with my denim embroidered platforms by Bamboo. Although there were no perfect color matches to the shoes in the dress, that was okay! Denim is a neutral – this is why you can pair anything with blue jeans and it’s going to look good every time. These heels added fantastic length without making the dress too short and they are also comfy as can be. I could walk for miles in them… I think, anyways. 😀

All that was left to do for this look was accessorize and with the patterned dress, I didn’t need much of anything other than earrings and rings. However, there is more to keeping things minimal than just the pattern of the dress. Notice the neckline, for instance. It’s almost nonexistent and there are already tie down strings so you can tie it with a bow if you want. Would it be smart from a styling standpoint to put a necklace there anyways? No! Same with the sleeves of this dress. Sure, you could wear bracelets but I would rather the focal point be on the gorgeous bell sleeves!

Styling killer OOTDs is all about common sense and if you are struggling to create something, it helps to look at your clothing objectively. You can then see what parts of the outfit needs built up and what parts you can leave alone. This YAS In Yellow OOTD was all about minimal styling because the dress required it to be. When you can establish how and why you need to style specific pieces, you’re outfit building game will improve tenfold!

What is your favorite thing to shop for at Target? What is something you struggle with when styling OOTDs? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

Bath Bomb Blitz: Bombs & Balms Edition

Hello!! I enjoyed a wonderful long Labor Day weekend with Johnny and we had a blast doing a whole lot of nothing. One of my “goals” over the weekend was to finally use the last of our purchases from the Punk Rock Flea Market we attended in mid August. Johnny bought me a bath bomb from our friend’s booth, Bombs & Balms, and I have been eager to try it out! This bath bomb was easily the coolest looking one that I have ever used and I think all of you will be able to see why:

image_50417665(7)image_50413057(8)image_50398209(11)image_50417409(6)

There were tons of awesome goodies at the Bombs & Balms stand including bath bombs, obvi, and lots of adorably unique homemade jewelry. Johnny and I both gravitated towards the bath bomb we walked away with immediately because we like anything with skeletons and cauldrons lol. I am also a lover of all things with an apple scent so I couldn’t wait to take a whiff of the Green Apple fragrance! On Sunday evening, I thought I would cross my bath time goal off of my to do list and it was just the relaxing, pampering treat I needed.

The scent of this bath bomb was so perfectly Green Apple and I was really impressed with its sweet/tart fragrance. I had a great feeling about this bath bomb because the last one I used from Bath & Body Works sucked on ice. Before popping this bomb into the tub, it was a given that it would begin to bubble and brew in the cauldron. Seeing it actually happen was SO cool, though, and it was like watching a potion fizz and pop!

My literal only gripe about this bath bomb was that the cauldron floated, so it was up to me to keep it under the water to fully do its thing. This wasn’t a big deal because the novelty of the witch’s brew was fun and different enough that a floating cauldron was the least of my worries. This bath bomb turned my water a bright glittery green and I thought that was fantastic because lighter colored bombs have the potential to turn the water swampy. After my soak, my skin felt soft as can be and as a bonus, the bath bomb washed away completely in the tub so there was no scrubbing afterwards. 😀

You can check out Bombs & Balms on Facebook and place orders through their page. If you are looking for a treat yoself purchase with some spooky flare, then you know exactly where to go!

What is your favorite homemade beauty brand? What is your favorite fall fragrance? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

The Business Of Blogging

Standard
The Business Of Blogging

Hey! I was SO excited to receive an email from Oprah of the blog Oprah Zip Bradford letting me know that she was back to the blogosphere after a hiatus. It is always so nice to be in touch with friends new and old that I have met through lifewithlilred and Oprah and I go way back. When she asked if I was up for a collaboration, of course I said YES! We were in touch after my four year streak of daily content was announced and she thought it would be beneficial if I explained my blogging business a bit more. I am always down to help inspire and inform other writers so of course I said YES! Here is some advice from your favorite Lil Red blogger:

What do you want out of your blog?

Blogging is an interesting hobby because it could be left as something done just for funsies or as a lucrative hustle. I originally started writing just for fun and I still do. However, I was lucky enough to be linked up with publishing companies and advertisers during lifewithlilred’s early years. Every day, I write for pleasure. However, it is a source of income for me and that keeps me motivated to continue creating daily content. Even if your blog isn’t making you money right now, that’s not to say it won’t in the future. If this is something that you are interested in, then it must be taken seriously as not only an outlet for your creativity but as a potential job.

Making a schedule that works for you:

Whether you would like to publish content just for fun or as a possible source of income, I will always recommend making a schedule. Schedules are important for bloggers because it lets your readers know when to expect you and to keep checking in. When you have a publishing schedule, you can create a writing schedule that works for you. In my case, I publish daily. This means that I have to write daily or write multiple posts in one sitting to schedule ahead of time. As you can tell, I am a very schedule oriented person when it comes to my blog and it has done nothing but help me.

Reach out:

If you are hoping for more interactions, viewers, or friends in the blogosphere – reach out! There are millions of blogs out there and it’s unrealistic to think that everyone is going to find yours. Scroll through the WordPress newsfeed and see what tickles your fancy. Interact with other bloggers on their pages and send them love. Encourage collaborations, announce your blog on social media, use word of mouth marketing. In other words, draw attention to your page yourself. There is viral content being shared every second of every day and it’s easy for blogs to get lost in the crowd.

Don’t limit your content:

If you have a blog where you are writing about a specific topic with every post, that is fine. My advice would be not to limit your content, though, because this just limits yourself as a writer. lifewithlilred started out as a strictly beauty and fashion blog and I am happy that I was able to branch out as a well rounded lifestyle blogger. If I stuck with just beauty and fashion, there is no way that I could create daily content. What are offshoots of your favorite topic to write about? For example, beauty and health and wellness often go hand in hand. Once you identify more topics to write about, you are inviting even more readers with different interests to check out your page.

Go easy on yourself:

It might not seem like it, but blogging and maintaining your page is hard work. It can be disheartening when you find that your efforts are not resulting in views or a payday. Please, don’t fret! Once you start beating yourself up, it immediately sucks the joy out of writing. I always say to write for the sake of writing. Don’t do it for viewers, don’t do it for advertisers – do it because YOU love it. When you are doing something you love, it doesn’t matter if one person sees it or one hundred thousand. Do keep this in mind because I have seen many a blogger come and go in lifewithlilred’s almost ten year tenure. Don’t set yourself up to give up by making comparisons or feeling like your page isn’t good enough. You are writing and that is always enough! ❤

Thanks so much to darling Oprah for asking me to share my Ted Talk. I hope this post gave all of you some insight going forward with your own blog!

What are some of your blogging questions for me? What is the link to your blog? Share away! I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah
