New Hair, Who Dis?

Howdy!! After this past week, Lil Red is feeling like a whole new woman! I treated myself to new nails, new tattoos, and new hair and I am loving my new look. On Friday, I spent roughly six hours at the Shear Shop so my stylist, Anna, could work her magic. Our goal was to transition my hair from winter to spring with the motif of pink lemonade. This was going to be easier said than done to get the deep red, navy, and purple out of my hair and we weren’t sure what was going to happen. I wasn’t worried about it in the slightest because Anna always delivers and this time was no exception. Check it out:

^^^ Stay tuned for a brand new OOTD coming soon!

The first order of business to achieving this look was using a new to us product. To remove the color from my hair, Anna had Pulp Riot’s bleach called Blank Canvas ordered just for me. We are so glad she did because this stuff was AMAZING. Within a half hour of sitting in and out of heat, the deep colors from my hair lifted significantly and was almost all of the way out. Minus one glaring issue – a funky green hue where the navy used to be. Since we were using lighter colors, the green had to go and after a lot of scrubbing and a little more bleach, Anna was able to get it almost all the way out.

Next on the agenda was the fun part of painting my hair. Over the years, Anna and I have become very familiar with Pulp Riot colors. While we revisited old favorites, we also dabbled in some new hues too. We used a variety of different colors including Pyro (deep red), Fireball (bright red), Satire (bright yellow) mixed with Lemon (light yellow), and Candy (neon pink) mixed with Blush (ballet slipper pink). As always, Anna was absolutely genius in her careful application to keep any of the colors from blending. Before I knew it, I had a head full of foil and the color was left to sit for about fifty minutes.

Once the color was washed out, we were very pleased with the results… Other than one thing. My roots were popping through in some noticeable areas in the front. This was actually a really simple fix. Anna just added a bit more bleach to the surprise spots and after twenty minutes, it got to a yellow that blended seamlessly with the rest of my hair. After this inspired idea, my hair was just perfect. Even better than perfect, actually! I felt full on Malibu Barbie and am in love with this drastic change. This hair is going to be so fun for spring and summer and I feel amazing every time I look in the mirror. ❤

When I am at the Shear Shop, I am living my best life. When I leave the Shear Shop, I am living my best life too. HUGE thank you to Anna for this beautiful new do. I say this every time she does my hair, but this is definitely my favorite yet!

Are you changing your hair for spring? What are you getting done? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

Jeans & A V (Neck) OOTD

Hello everyone and welcome to a brand new OOTD here on lifewithlilred! On Friday the second, I spent a glorious morning and afternoon getting my hair done at the Shear Shop. There is nothing better to me than freshly dyed hair and it makes me want to take all of the pictures! It’s very exciting to get my hair done because my stylist and I never know which colors are going to pull or exactly how the end result will turn out. My new do definitely fell under the “vivid cool” color palette and I knew just what I wanted to wear to accentuate it. Check it out:

Who? What? Wear?

V-Neck Sweater: Express

Distressed Skinny Jeans: American Eagle Outfitters

Hidden Wedge Boots: Jennifer Lopez, Kohl’s

The tear drop earrings are from Target (I think). BTW – I, too, am shocked that there’s nothing from TJMaxx in this outfit!

The red, navy, and purple palette of my new hair compliments of Pulp Riot makes me feel like an ice queen. The colors are bright, yes, but they have deep, cool undertones and I love how it makes my pale skin pop. To keep with the “icing out” theme, I started this look with a sweater from Express in a white and grey snakeskin pattern with silver rhinestones adorning it. I got this sweater almost ten years ago for dirt cheap when 1) I used to shop at Express and 2) They used to run their bin sales. I rarely wear it, but I can’t seem to part with it! In this case, it was just what I needed and the wintry hues of the pattern let my hair do all the talking.

Next on the agenda was jeans and I went with my distressed pair from American Eagle Outfitters. The sweater really doesn’t allow for anything other than a neutral colored bottom so the distressing added some visual interest. It also helped show some skin because the V-neck in the sweater isn’t a plunging one. Since I was still almost completely covered on top, I had to get some ventilation elsewhere! 😀

Finally, it was onto shoes and accessories. For shoes, I wore my all time favorite pair of winter boots by Jennifer Lopez. I will never forget when I got these for four dollars at Kohl’s after admiring them and turning my nose up at the one hundred dollar price tag all winter! These boots are very cool because they have a hidden wedge heel and gave me the extra length that I always want when I’m dressing up. And, how cute are those stud details?! As I didn’t have a lot of open real estate for a necklace or bracelets, I simply put on a pair of black gemstone tear drop earrings and called it an outfit!

My Jeans & A V (Neck) OOTD was just right for showing off my new do and I can’t wait to continue styling looks around it. Stay tuned for more fashion fun soon! ❤

Do you prefer warm or cool undertones for your hair or clothing? What is your favorite animal pattern to wear? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

New Hair, Who Dis?

Hello everyone!! This past Friday was an excellent day! I spent my morning and afternoon getting my hair done at the Shear Shop and had a slumber party with my bestie, Lea, that evening. I haven’t had a day off since the holidays so it was really nice to have a full day dedicated to some R&R and fun! As always, my amazing stylist, Anna, transformed my hair into something fresh and new and I am loving the results. That Pulp Riot color is absolutely everything! Check it out:

^^^ Shout out to my husband for never taking a nice picture with me lol. Also peep a brand new OOTD coming soon from the above look!

Going to the Shear Shop is one of my favorite forms of self care. Spending time with Anna is like seeing a best friend/therapist and I have never once left her chair without feeling like a billion bucks. The past few times we have done my hair, we have tried to incorporate one of our favorite Pulp Riot shades called Satire amidst Nightfall (navy), Pyro (deep red), and Fireball (bright red). When the bright yellow color was fresh, it looked awesome. However, the Satire and Nightfall would begin to blend together after a while and created an unsightly shade of green. Although we’re never normally mad about random colors that pull, this was one we wouldn’t stand for!

This time around, we decided to scrap Satire altogether and use Pyro, Fireball, and Nightfall. Anna also mixed up some lilac dye with the navy to make a deep purple to place throughout the hair. The entire process took about five hours from start to finish and we began with bleaching the roots for about twenty-five minutes. It’s always fun to see how my hair looks after the bleach is out because the colors can look pretty crazy. For example, there were streaks of emerald green in my hair afterwards. I kind of liked it, actually lol.

After my hair was washed and dried, the hair dye application came next. To achieve this look, Anna painted the top of my roots with Pyro. This deep red is stunning and it’s also strategic. The deeper shade against my roots looks so much better as it’s growing out. Then, she painted the framing of my face with Nightfall and did a halo wrap of it around the bottom layer of my hair and streaked it with purple. All that was left after that was to paint the remainder of my hair with Fireball, sit for about an hour, and see what happened!

Beauty is pain, people, because the water Anna used to wash the dye out was bitter cold. Like the coldest I think the water has ever been, but I will do anything for the best results possible. It felt like heaven to get my hair blow dried shortly after! The ice bath was completely worth it because we are loving how my hair turned out. Not using the Satire was a great move and we have never seen the red looking more vibrant since it wasn’t muddled down with another color. I will also never not be obsessed with Nightfall and I think the color is so flattering on me. Not to mention the wonderful haircut that was much needed after growing out for a few months. C’est magnifique. ❤

I feel my absolute best after an appointment with Anna and know I am looking it too. We plan on lightening things up for my springtime session and I can’t wait to see what we come up with!

How long do you go between getting your hair done? What colors should I get for spring? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

New Hair, Who Dis?

New Hair, Who Dis?

Hello!! This past Friday, I spent a wonderful day getting pampered by my amazing stylist, Anna, at the Shear Shop. Last time I got my hair done by Anna, we introduced a gorgeous new Pulp Riot shade called Nightfall which is a navy blue. We both loved it SO much and decided that we needed to see more of it during my next appointment so I couldn’t wait to make that happen. For this look, we used all Pulp Riot colors of Pyro, Fireball, Satire, and Nightfall and it turned out absolutely divine. Check it out:

^^^ Keep it locked for a brand new OOTD coming soon! 😀

To create my new do, Anna began by bleaching my roots and we let that sit for around twenty-five or thirty minutes. After washing and drying, it was time to mix up the Pulp Riot dye and, as always, take a commemorative whiff of it. Lol, if you have used Pulp Riot products before, then you will know it smells exactly like Sweet Tarts! 😀

image_50730241(4)

The fun truly begins when Anna starts to dye my hair and brings our vision to life. Although we were using the exact same colors from my previous appointment, changes needed to be made. It was already decided that we needed more navy in our lives and we swapped the yellow I originally had in front for navy instead. This choice was made for aesthetics, sure, but it was also strategic. While we both adore the gorgeous yellow shade of Satire, it looked very unflattering when my dark roots came in against such a bright hue. Anna is a master of her craft and she not only thinks about the immediate result, but what it will look like when it grows out too and that is much appreciated.

To achieve this look, Anna started out by painting my roots with a deep red called Pyro. It makes my regrowth virtually undetectable and is a must every time I get my hair done. Then, she painted my bangs and the hair framing my face with Nightfall as well as creating a navy halo underneath the red. She also left a few strands out that we could paint with Satire, but that was easier said than done. The yellow is very close to the navy and the last thing we wanted was for a funky green shade to pop up. Finally, she pulled through the rest of the back portion of my hair with the brighter red of Fireball and we let the color sit for around fifty minutes.

Once the color was ready to be washed out, Anna proceeded with caution because we didn’t want any of the colors to blend. She used a fabulous color locking shampoo that pretty much eliminated any bleed out and we were most impressed. Afterwards, it was onto conditioner and a treatment to soften my hair and add some shine. That is always much needed after we put my hair through the ringer! My hair felt wonderful after and it was as if we never did anything to it in the first place.

The end result of Anna’s hard work blew us both away and it turned out exactly how we wanted it to. I am obsessed with the navy framing my face and I love how it looks against my complexion. My red was back and brighter than ever and there was no green to be found from colors blending. It’s always a coin toss to do something this bold with your hair, but I know that I am in the best hands with Anna. I can’t wait to see what we do next! 😀

Keep it posted here on lifewithlilred for a brand new OOTD, bloopers, and a bit of a surprise because your girl got a new piercing for the first time in years this past weekend!! It is very cute, if I do say so myself! 🙂

YAS In Yellow OOTD

YAS In Yellow OOTD

Hello everyone and welcome to a brand new OOTD here on lifewithlilred! Even though it has been hot as BEJEEZUS for the past several days, I have been in a complete fall state of mind thanks to my new hair. During last week’s OOTD, I created an outfit to fully compliment my new do and I loved how it turned out so much that I wanted to go that route again. I also want to take all of the opportunities I can to wear dresses without tights before the weather gets too cold! Take a look at this look and let’s discuss:

image_50726401(3)image_50772225(1)image_50732289(1)image_50760449image_50739201(4)image_50731009(4)

Who? What? Wear?

Yellow Floral Dress: Xhilaration, Target

Denim Platforms: Bamboo, TJMaxx

Double Strand Earrings: I think these are from Target?

Can we all just talk about how great dresses are for a minute? They are one of those pieces where literally all you have to do is throw it on and you have an outfit. Also, bonus points if the dress has pockets like the one I’m wearing in this OOTD! It feels so weird to not see a huge list of clothing and accessories under Who? What? Wear? but I simply didn’t need anything more than what I had. That’s the power of a patterned dress because the last thing a bold print needs it to be bogged down with anything extra.

After rocking a navy blue dress last week, I decided to show attention to another color in my hair – Pulp Riot’s Satire. This yellow shade is my absolute favorite and it feels perfect for the last days of summertime and the approaching fall season. I mentioned in the Fabulously Fall OOTD that I thought the dress I was wearing shrank but, alas, it wasn’t the one I had on. It was actually the Target dress I have on in this shoot lol.

After assessing my options, I decided to try the lovely yellow frock to see if it was as badly shrunk as I remember it being. Happily, that wasn’t the case even with platforms on so we were in business! I love this dress so much and I have yet to find anything similar to it in stores. This dress is old as dirt, but it still feels brand new – especially since I just didn’t wear it for years straight lol. Of course, the color is great but there is so much more to this little number than that. The bell sleeves, for example? Darling! The burnished gold buttons down the front? Adorable! Flowy A-line skirt? Too cute! This dress is a statement in itself and when you break down why, it makes sense to style the rest of the look minimally.

For shoes, I went with my denim embroidered platforms by Bamboo. Although there were no perfect color matches to the shoes in the dress, that was okay! Denim is a neutral – this is why you can pair anything with blue jeans and it’s going to look good every time. These heels added fantastic length without making the dress too short and they are also comfy as can be. I could walk for miles in them… I think, anyways. 😀

All that was left to do for this look was accessorize and with the patterned dress, I didn’t need much of anything other than earrings and rings. However, there is more to keeping things minimal than just the pattern of the dress. Notice the neckline, for instance. It’s almost nonexistent and there are already tie down strings so you can tie it with a bow if you want. Would it be smart from a styling standpoint to put a necklace there anyways? No! Same with the sleeves of this dress. Sure, you could wear bracelets but I would rather the focal point be on the gorgeous bell sleeves!

Styling killer OOTDs is all about common sense and if you are struggling to create something, it helps to look at your clothing objectively. You can then see what parts of the outfit needs built up and what parts you can leave alone. This YAS In Yellow OOTD was all about minimal styling because the dress required it to be. When you can establish how and why you need to style specific pieces, you’re outfit building game will improve tenfold!

What is your favorite thing to shop for at Target? What is something you struggle with when styling OOTDs? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

Fabulously Fall OOTD

Fabulously Fall OOTD

Hello!!! Your girl has been feeling her damn self since getting my hair done and I couldn’t wait to show off my new do with a brand new OOTD. My freshly dyed red, yellow, and navy hair is such a lux color palette and feels so Fabulously Fall. I have been waiting for my favorite season since summer began and I wanted to create a look that welcomes fall and perfectly compliments my hair. I hate to toot my own horn, but I think I knocked it out of the park! Check it out:

image_50767873image_50770177(1)image_50750721(2)image_50774273image_50765057(1)image_50747393

Who? What? Wear?

Button Down Dress: Forever 21

Heeled Oxfords: Lulu Hun, ModCloth

The accessories are all from Target I think!

As you can see, this was a very simple OOTD to style with such a minimal amount of pieces. Sometimes, simple is best and I felt radiant in this look because it achieved my goal of complimenting my hair so well. It took me quite a while to figure out what I wanted to wear because I had originally eliminated the Forever 21 dress I was wearing as an option. I had a vague memory of washing it and it shrinking in length and after that I never wore it again. I’m glad I decided to try it on anyways because the length was fine and I think I was thinking of a different dress lol. SMH!

The Forever 21 button down dress was everything I needed to make a cohesive look between clothing and hair. With navy as the base and the floral pattern featuring deeper shades of red and yellow, it was like this dress was made for me getting my hair done! I love the way this dress fits because it’s form fitting without being tight. The bow at the waist allows for an hourglass shape and it made me feel SO confident. Some button down dresses can be really boxy and that wasn’t the case with this one in the slightest.

Next on the agenda was shoes and that was an easy choice. To keep with the theme of fall colors, I went with my plum and caramel heeled oxfords by Lulu Hun. These are my sexy librarian heels and I am so there for it! Although the shoes aren’t a perfect match to anything in the dress or my hair, they still worked because they complimented the color palette I established. They are also just right in height because anything taller would have made the dress a bit too short for my liking. Maybe it did shrink a little…

Finally, it was time for accessories to tie everything together. Since the bold floral pattern acted as an accessory in itself, I kept things simple in my selection. For earrings, I went with a pair of burnished gold dangly crosses. I thought they looked lovely against the navy in my hair! Then, I threw on a few statement rings and was ready to go. Also, how cute is that double finger feather? It’s one of my faves!

My Fabulously Fall OOTD is one of my favorite looks that I have styled in a while. I felt like an autumn goddess and I can’t wait to continue exploring rich jewel toned clothing to match my hair. Keep it posted for the blooper reel tomorrow!

What is your favorite jewel tone? Are you as excited for fall as I am? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

New Hair, Who Dis?

New Hair, Who Dis?

Hello!! This past Friday, I spent a wonderful four or so hours getting my hair done by the amazing Anna at The Shear Shop. We decided to say bye bye to rainbow hair and move onto something deeper and more lux for fall. This was the shortest amount of time that I have ever spent in Anna’s chair in I don’t know how long. Short and sweet because this is my absolute favorite thing that she has ever done. I know I say that every time I get my hair done, but I really mean it this time! Check it out:

image_50789377image_50448641(8)

Pulp Riot colors from left top to right bottom:

Fireball

Pyro

Nightfall mixed with Velvet

Satire

When conferencing with Anna pre appointment, we decided that we loved the idea of jewel tones. The “peacock” portion of my hair last time around of green, blue, and purple faded into something swampy and very unsightly. A deeper blue or purple was the way to go to avoid that because the faded portion of my hair looked HIT. To achieve this do, Anna began by bleaching out my regrowth and it only took about a half hour to get my roots lightened to her satisfaction.

Once the bleach was washed out and my hair was dried, the fun part of color application began! My favorite part is when Anna brings out her tray full of Pulp Riot colors and we just have to smell it because it smells exactly like Sweet Tarts. 😀 Anna first started by painting my roots with Pyro and applying Satire next to my bangs and crown. Then, she tied it all together with some Fireball. Once the top half of my hair had color applied, she painted the bottom half with her combination of Nightfall and Velvet. We were hoping that this would pull as a rich navy blue and crossed our fingers while the color sat for forty-five minutes.

The almost hour of waiting to be rinsed off dragged on for forever because I couldn’t wait to see the results! As always, we washed it with ice cold water once the time was up and it definitely woke me up lol it was freezing. While my hair was being washed, Anna told me it was looking really good, but we never know how good until it is cut, dried, and styled. What usually extends my appointments is that we are not happy with how certain colors pulled so we either have to rebleach or redye or both to those areas. That was so not the case at this appointment!

Even with wet hair, we were going gaga over the Nightfall and Velvet combination. It was exactly what we wanted and the contrast between it and the bright colors on top was stunning. Not that I don’t freaking love spending a day at The Shear Shop, but it’s always great to have things go accordingly to plan the first time around. Our literal only regret is that we didn’t have more of the navy and we plan on applying it even higher at my next appointment. I am thinking we will keep with this color combo for a long while because it is shear perfection.

As per ushe, Anna is a genius and a true master of her craft. She works magic every time I see her, but this style is on a whole other level. ❤ Keep it posted for my brand new OOTD tomorrow featuring my brand new do!

New Hair, Who Dis?

Hello! This past Wednesday, I had a wonderful afternoon of pampering at The Shear Shop to not only freshen up my hair but to improve on the changes that my stylist, Anna, made the last time. While we loved the combination of Pulp Riot colors Fireball (bright red), Pyro (deep red), Satire (yellow), and Lava (orange), we weren’t seeing enough of the yellow, which is both of our favorites. Thankfully, my friend and stylist is a literal genius and gave me a gorgeous halo of Satire that I am beyond thrilled with. Check it out:

image_50402049(2)image_50737921(3)image_50450177(2)image_50418945(3)image_50402305(3)

^^^ This was the outfit I wore to see Cats this weekend. While this isn’t an OOTD post, here is the outfit info anyways:

Who? What? Wear?

To begin the process of allowing each Pulp Riot shade to pop rather than blend together, Anna started by bleaching my roots as well as my bangs and the surrounding circle for Satire. Now that we have moved past my white and red hair, the bleaching process is much shorter and easier on my hair because it doesn’t have to lift as much. The bleach only had to do its thing for about twenty minutes until it was ready to wash out and I can tell. My hair feels way healthier and my ends aren’t fried, which is a huge plus!

Once the bleach was washed out and my hair was cut and dried, it was time for the fun part – the color! To achieve this look, Anna painted my roots with Pyro. Then, she began to expertly place each additional color. Satire was next, followed by Lava, and Fireball at the tips. As always, the Pulp Riot colors are simply spectacular and the dye smells like Sweet Tarts. This only seems appropriate with candy colored hair. 😀

As Anna painted each chunk of hair, she wrapped it up in foil and it wasn’t long before I was completely protected from aliens. The color sat for about thirty-five minutes or so until it was ready to be washed out and the results were exactly what we wanted. By changing up the order of colors and the space that they were painted on, each individual hue became infinitely clearer and was much truer to our fireball inspiration. The color and cut are divine and I also am very much enjoying having bangs to add some more variety to my look!

There is nothing like a day at The Shear Shop to lift my spirits and have some fun. My stress melted away as soon as I walked in the door and I am so thankful to my wonderful Anna for always keeping Lil Red looking her best! ❤

What is your favorite Pulp Riot color? Do you have any plans to change up your hair soon? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

Hello everyone and welcome to the blooper reel from my New Hair, Who Dis? OOTD! I have had such a blast creating the bloopers for several of my past OOTDs and it is a relatively new segment on lifewithlilred. If you’re new to the OOTD picture world and a majority of your shots look like the above, that is okay! I remember some of my first OOTD shoots and I was like “yikes” when looking through them afterwards. Practice really does make perfect, though, and you will get more comfortable the more you get in front of the camera.

I used to think that practicing my posing and facial expressions in the mirror was something only contestants on America’s Next Top Model did – but it really does work! Before every shoot, I spend some time in front of my full length mirror practicing different angles, movements, and expressions. With my little study session beforehand, I can take everything that is still fresh in my mind and apply it to my pictures. That’s how I end up with something like these and not any of the above lol:

That does it for my New Hair, Who Dis? OOTD and I hope that all of you enjoyed it as much as I did. Tune in tomorrow for my eight year Blogiversary stroll down memory lane. We will also be discussing new recipes and more OOTDs later this week. Year nine of lifewithlilred is starting off with a bang!

Johnny always tells me that I have perfect timing in the most sarcastic way possible. For example, I’ll ask him for something to drink as soon as he sits down or try to change my DoorDash order right before he’s about to send it in. I never mean to but apparently I have a knack for it! In the case of this OOTD coinciding with my blogiversary, I agree with my husband. My timing is perfect lol.

I had, honestly, forgotten about my blogiversary completely with all of the craziness going on in my life. So you can imagine my surprise when I got the WordPress notification before I began yesterday’s post! A reminder of all of my years of dedication to lifewithlilred paired with pictures that I am obsessed with was just the pick me up I needed. It’s so easy to lose sight of accomplishments – especially when it feels like your life is in shambles *face palm*. But another year of posting daily content under my belt is something that I am so proud of and it felt good to remember that.

Starting my new blogging calendar off with a new OOTD is also serendipitous because lots of OOTD posts are my goal for going into year nine of lifewithlilred. Creating new outfits in a variety of styles is such a blast for me and fall outfits are my jam. So, yes, to my husband – sometimes I really do have perfect timing. Keep it locked for more unique and affordable looks coming soon!
