How To Make A Sudden Career Change Successfully

Making a career change can be a daunting task. It’s one of the biggest decisions you’ll ever make and, if done incorrectly, it can be very costly. This blog post will give you some tips on how to make a career change successfully and cover things like how to assess your skills and interests, how to research new careers, and how to network with professionals in your desired field. So whether you’re just starting out in your career or you’ve been stuck in the same job for years, read on for advice on making a successful career change:

Assess Your Skills and Interests:

The first step to making a successful career change is to assess your skills and interests. Consider what you are good at, the kind of work you enjoy, and the industries that align with your values. This process will help you narrow down potential career paths and determine which ones best suit your strengths and aspirations. To get started, make a list of your skills, interests, and values. Additionally, review any past feedback you’ve received from colleagues, supervisors, and mentors to get a better sense of your strengths and weaknesses.

Research Potential Career Paths:

Once you’ve assessed your skills and interests, it’s time to do some research. Begin by exploring potential recession proof jobs that align with your list. Look up job postings for positions that match what you are looking for, read up on industry news and information, or even talk to people in the field who can provide insights and advice. This will give you a better understanding of the kind of work involved as well as potential opportunities available. In addition, research organizations and companies in the industry you are considering. Note any areas that they specialize in, job opportunities they offer, and their corporate culture. This will help you determine if a particular career path is right for you.

Get Qualified:

Once you’ve identified a potential new career, it’s time to get qualified. Depending on the field, this may involve getting additional certifications or qualifications, taking classes or workshops, gaining relevant experience through internships or volunteer work, or simply doing more research to become familiar with different aspects of the field. Consider how your current skills can be transferred to your desired career path. Are there any roles where your past experience could be beneficial? How can you make your transition smoother? Brainstorm ways to apply your existing skills and experiences in a new context.

There are multiple ways to become a more qualified candidate, and you don’t need to attend a full-time course to do it. Age of Learning can be a great option for this, as are countless other online learning possibilities. While you’ll still need to put the work into actually getting qualified, it’s more than worth the effort.

Network and Build Connections:

Making connections with people who are already working in the field is an important step towards making a successful career change. Building relationships with these individuals can open up opportunities for collaboration, advice, or even job openings. Start by doing some research on LinkedIn and other social media platforms to find potential contacts. Then, reach out to these people via email or a phone call to introduce yourself and explain why you’re interested in their particular industry. Ask questions about their experience and what advice they might have for someone looking to break into the field. Finally, don’t forget to offer your own skills and expertise in return.

Make a Plan:

Making a plan is essential for any career change. This will help you stay focused on your goals and ensure that you are taking the necessary steps to reach them. Start by breaking down each of your larger goals into smaller, achievable tasks. Then, create an actionable timeline with deadlines for completing certain tasks or reaching certain milestones. As you work towards making your career change, review this plan regularly to make sure you’re on track and adjust it as needed along the way. Finally, be sure to factor in time for self-care while making your transition. It can be easy to get overwhelmed during this process. Schedule activities that will help you stay motivated and energized, such as exercise or creative pursuits.

Take Action:

It’s easy to talk about making a career change, but the time has come to take action. Start by applying for any relevant job positions or internships that have come up in your research. Make sure you are taking advantage of networking opportunities and building meaningful relationships with people in the industry. Also, don’t forget to promote yourself! Create an online portfolio showcasing your work and experiences, update your resume, and create social media profiles that show off your skills and qualifications. These steps will help you stand out as potential employers review applications.

Making a career change can be stressful. However, with the right planning and preparation it doesn’t have to be overwhelming. By assessing your skills, researching potential paths, and building connections in the field, you can make a successful and satisfying transition. With careful reflection, dedication, and perseverance, you’ll be well on your way to pursuing the career of your dreams!

Have Some Fun: Visit A Local Hangout

Lots of communities have a local hangout where everyone seems to gather for a big game, trivia nights, or the company. This might be a bar, restaurant, arcade, or in some cases all three of these things in one. If you are in the mood to meet some new people, places like these are great to go to. It also offers these benefits:

You Will Have Longer Conversations:

It has been noted through research on the topic of socializing at pubs that people who sit at a bar and talk to other people tend to talk longer. While being in this kind of social situation, a person is more inclined to get involved in conversations with multiple people allowing them to converse freely. Being able to hold up a conversation is a great skill that not only brings its own happiness, but also helps you in daily life.

In your professional life, being able to talk, network, and hold your own makes people want to interact with you more and get to know you better.

You Will Get Involved In Sports:

Most hangouts have a dartboard or pool table and people are always crowded around it. Getting involved with a sport like darts helps you with your concentration, hand-eye coordination, control, and patience. All of these skills can only make your life better. Being a part of a team also makes you have a sense of belonging and community, which is a win for your mental health.

Whether it’s watching sports on TV and being among like-minded fans or joining the local sponsored sports team and getting exercise, visiting your local gathering place can introduce you to this world and help you meet new friends.

You Get Out of Your House:

Getting out of the house on a weekend night and being among people of various age groups and backgrounds always makes a person happier. When we are home and tucked away from the social scene we can develop feelings of isolation and loneliness. When we are out in the world socializing, those feelings melt away.

Even if it is only for one drink or two, sitting down in public and interacting with other people also breaks up the day and makes you feel as if you are part of something greater. The best thing that comes out of this is that you make new friends and discover new things about yourself.

You May Learn Something New:

A lot of bars and restaurants hold trivia nights in order to get more patrons in the front door for something fun and interesting. The best part of playing trivia games: you become a smarter person. Research has found that people who go to pubs and participate in trivia games are going to learn something new.

This also allows a person to show off their intelligence and how much they know in a public setting which boosts confidence and makes a person feel better about themselves and their abilities.

You Learn to Let Your Guard Down:

When you are in a social situation where everyone is talking to each other and having a good time, you are more likely to want to join in too. In order to do this, you are going to have to let your guard down. When you get into the habit of opening yourself up and talking, you will not feel so insecure to speak up and ask questions at work or with your family and friends. This kind of confidence will help you take control of your life and improve it.

You Will Feel More Relaxed:

When you go out and have a good meal, perhaps a drink, and time with your friends, you are more likely to feel relaxed. An evening of getting yourself out there and enjoying yourself is the best cure after a stressful week. It gives you the opportunity to leave your job at the office and focus on having a blast, instead.

Exploring the local hangouts in your area will give you the chance to connect with people and unwind. Plan an outing somewhere new with your friends and enjoy!

Landing Your Dream Job

Landing Your Dream Job

Unfortunately, many people never land their dream job, not because they are not capable of doing so but because they don’t think they can, so they don’t even try. If you want to be one of the ones who does end up doing a job you love for the rest of your life, here are some tips to help you achieve it:

Get the right qualifications:

Yes, there are tales of people who have been able to get their dream job with not even a high school diploma to help them along the way and, incidentally, if you’ve long since lost your high school diploma, Valid Grad can help you out. If you want to land your dream job, it is a good idea to work out what qualifications those in charge are looking for, and do your best to attain them too. Whether this is a certification, degree, or training courses any extra know how helps.

Gain experience:

If you want to land your dream job, you are going to have to work for it and that means getting relevant experience that you can put on your resume. For example, if you want to be a zookeeper, you could start by volunteering in a local animal shelter. This will be valuable experience and show employers that you have a caring nature and a love of animals, which will help to seal the deal. That’s just one example, of course, and what you need to do to prove yourself may be quite different, but you get the idea.

Become a presence online:

In 2022, one thing you can do to really set yourself apart from the competition and stand out in the best possible way is to establish a strong online presence in your chosen sector. If you want to be a film director, you could start by producing video shorts for YouTube or if you want to be a high end personal shopper, you could start your own fashion blog. People will see your stuff, make connections, and you will find that more opportunities will come your way.

Network:

On that note, it is fair to say that networking can do a lot of the hard work of landing your dream job. If you attend trade events, talks, and shows based on your dream sector or where people who work in your dream sector are likely to hang out, you can mingle with all the right people. When it comes to an opportunity, sometimes it really is about who you know so always put your best face forward.

Getting a dream job takes time and lots of hard work but it will be so worth it once you’re punching the clock at a job you love!

Movie Maven: A Lil Red Guide To Film Festival Etiquette

Movie Maven: A Lil Red Guide To Film Festival Etiquette

Hello everyone and happy Hump Day! Summer brings about a variety of activities that some people spend the whole year looking forward to. Vacations, concerts, baseball games, and film festivals. I am sure that most of you already know that I am an avid movie lover. Of course, my favorite genre is horror by far but I love it all. Psychological thrillers, foreign films, comedies, rom-coms, the occasional Western, action, documentaries – you name it. The world of film is an all inclusive, creative, free for all with something for everyone, which is what makes it so beautiful.

Asking me about my favorite films always results in a five minute babble of my “I could watch this every day and not get bored” flicks. Every movie that you watch has the potential to become your new favorite and that’s what makes going out to the cinema, renting from the RedBox, and attending film festivals so exciting. You are twenty minutes in previews away with entering a new world for an hour or two. And even if the flick was the worst thing ever, you still got to eat popcorn and candy for the duration of the film. It’s a win/win for everyone.

A night at the movies is fun – but could you imagine a day at a film festival? A day devoted entirely to the up and coming films for the year? Talk about heaven! And another cool part about attending a film festival? The traveling! July 19th through the 22nd is the Anthem Film Festival in Las Vegas. And the movies that are seen in Vegas are sure to not stay there for long! Be sure to check out Vegas.com for the best hotel and flight packages for your stay and then let’s talk some film festival pro tips:

Be A Social Butterfly!

You already have one thing in common with literally every single person at the festival – a love for film. This sounds like the perfect icebreaker to me! Chat it up with anyone and everyone after the credits have rolled because you never know who you’re going to meet. From directors and actors to behind the scenes workers and industry professionals, a film festival is the best place to network if you are interested in any aspect of the vast world of cinema. Get your business cards ready and spread your wings, you beautiful and capable butterfly.

Dress To Impress:

You know how I said that you never know who you’re going to meet at a film festival? If not, let me repeat it: YOU NEVER KNOW WHO YOU’RE GOING TO MEET AT A FILM FESTIVAL!!! Dressing to impress is absolutely crucial for this reason. During the day, you can get away with a comfy cool look – an oversized button down, skinny jeans, and ankle booties are a great start. And don’t forget to bring a cardi for those chilly showing rooms!

The evening is a different story, though. Let your night time look transform you just as if you were walking the red carpet at a major premiere (Okay, maybe not that extreme, but you get the point!). Wear your best LBD and a killer pair of heels and then top it off with a bold red lip and a bejeweled clutch. And remember, it’s all about confidence and class with a heaping helping of personality when you’re strutting your stuff in your evening attire, honey.

Take Notes:

Having a notepad and a pen on you is a must. Keeping track of the films that you saw during your whirlwind of a day is vastly important when it comes to networking and the post film Q & A sessions. Write down your likes and dislikes, questions that you had throughout the screening, and important themes that you picked up on during the movie. All of your thoughts will make excellent conversation starters at the refreshment stand or while hanging around for the next film to start. Not only that, but surely you will want to remember such an exciting day, anyways, and jotting down notes throughout your experience is a great way to keep your memories fresh.

Tearjerker Tissues:

Alright, let’s get one thing straight: Literally no one wants to hear you with the sniffles after ugly crying when the handsome lead bites the dust, Linda. Do us all a favor and bring a travel tissue packet. THANKS!! (This goes for everyone – not just Linda!!)

A Good Attitude:

Are you going to love every film that you see? No. But raving negativity after the film ends is certainly frowned upon in such an esteemed setting. Differing opinions are fine, but voice your love or distaste appropriately. The movie that you hated could be the favorite film of the person sitting beside you. An appreciation for film in general and the time, money, and talent that’s involved in that world goes a long way during your chats in line at the ladies, the refreshment booth, or the post film Q & A. Remember that you’re in a professional environment and showing respect is always going to be a do as you go about your day at the festival.
If you’ve never attended a film festival before, the Anthem Film Festival in Las Vegas is a great place to start! What are your film festival do’s and don’ts? What are a few of your favorite flicks? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah
