American Horror Story – Episode 5

Wow! Okay, a lot of really important stage setters happened in “Pink Cupcakes”, episode five of American Horror Story: Freak Show. Let’s discuss some of the important information that we learned in tonight’s episode.

1) Stanley is a slime ball: “Pink Cupcakes” opens up with Maggie and Stanley in a motel room discussing their game plan for the murder of the freaks in Elsa’s troupe. With the bodies of the freaks, they’ll both make a pretty penny at the Museum of Morbidity’s in town. Maggie is firm in her stance of not wanting to murder anyone, but Stanley urges her that “accidents can happen.” After a demand of increasing her percentage of the pay, Maggie agrees to Stanley’s delight. “Fraulein Elsa’s cabinet of curiosities is about to be a cabin of bad luck” he says. Maggie is Stanley’s way in to the freak show, as she is posing as a fortune teller there. While she does her thing, Stanley poses as Mr. Spencer – a talent agent from Hollywood “the land of dreams” as he calls it. Naturally, Elsa takes great interest in Mr. Spencer since she’s trying to make her dreams of being a star a reality. Spencer discusses the possibility of Elsa being on television and having her own TV hour, much to her disdain. Elsa claims that television takes away from the beauty of the silver screen. “I would rather be boiled in oil than to be on television.” However, her mind changes in a jiffy after she gets booed off stage during her performance at a full house night at the freak show. She invites Mr. Spencer back into her tent and asks him to “tell me more about this television”. So, now we have Miss Elsa feeling good – we see her in a montage of sassiness, getting all dolled up for a publicity shoot to the tune of David Bowie’s “Fame”. As miss thing is leaving the tent, she sees none other than Bette and Dotte, the conjoined twins leaving in Mr. Spencer’s car instead. Here is when things get fishy. We see the girls and Spencer sitting in a beautiful park having a picnic, supposedly discussing the opportunity for the twins to have their own TV show, the “Tatler Sister’s Hour”. To celebrate, Mr. Spencer offers the ladies two gorgeous pink cupcakes. “Pink cupcakes?! What a treat!” Bette exclaims in delight. Then we flash to a scene where we see Spencer injecting the cupcakes with some type of poison. Bette takes a big bite of her cupcake and then begins to cough. “It serves you right for being such a glutton” Dotte says. As Dotte snaps her sassy remark, Bette begins to foam at the mouth and we flash to see the sisters laying in bed. For Bette, it very well could be her death bed. Mr. Spencer then lashes out at Dotte, appearing to try and choke her while saying “you should have just ate a cupcake!” Thankfully for the girls, this is just what Mr. Spencer wishes would happen. We then flash back to the picnic where Dotte turns down the treats saying, “No cupcakes. We have to watch our figure if we’re going to be television personalities.”

Desiree’s one hundred percent womanhood: It’s a full house night at the freak show, and Del Toledo is no where to be found. So, off Jimmy runs to Del and his wife Desiree’s tent. Miss Dupree is unaware of her husbands whereabouts and is clearly intoxicated. Jimmy sits down beside Desiree and she begins to tell him her woes about Del and his behaviors. She talks about how happy that he used to make her feel. She confesses “I never felt more alive in my life and now I feel nothing but empty.” Jimmy then leans in for a smooch and Miss Dupree asks the Lobster Boy to make her feel again 😉 All is going well until Jimmy’s heavy duty fingering causes her to bleed. Once Desiree is at the doctor’s office, accompanied by Ethel, she learns some shocking news. The bleeding caused by Jimmy’s pleasure claws was actually a miscarriage. The doctor goes on to tell Desiree that she is in fact one hundred percent woman. He tells her that her body had too much testosterone in it and it began to rapidly produce estrogen to compromise for it. Explaining her third breast and her enlarged clitoris which she thought was a “dang a lang”. The doctor let’s her know that all of these body mishaps could be fixed via cosmetic surgery and he’d be happy to do it.

Del Toledo’s sexuality: In tonight’s episode we are taken to what appears to be a gay bar of some sort, where we see none other than the strong man himself, Del Toledo. We see him sitting with a young man named Andy, whom we later learn is a prostitute. The boys are discussing Andy’s artwork, as he likes to sketch and Andy confides in Del that he’d like to go out west and do caricature drawings for a band that’s on tour. Del vetoes this idea though, saying that “if you’re getting out of this place, it’s going to be with me”. Del then professes his love for Andy. The feeling doesn’t seem to be entirely mutual though. In tears he talks about the hurt his body experiences while performing as the strong man, he then utters a line that I loved so much “There is nothing worse than the hurt of loving someone you can’t have.” #TRUE. Del then exits the bar and goes back to his and his wife’s tent, only to find Desiree with her bags packed. She tells him that she’s moving into Ethel’s tent and that she’s a woman through and through. Miss Dupree also let’s Del know that once she gets her cosmetic surgery she’ll be a normal woman and “too much woman for you to handle”. MEOW. At the very end of the episode, we see Del in the doctor’s office. He threatens the doctor and his family if he performs any type of surgery on Desiree. To ensure that the doctor keeps his surgical hands to himself, Del breaks both of them. RUDE.

Dandy’s serial killer quest: Alright! We all know that Dandy is totally bat shit crazy by now but this episode delves even deeper into that. Tonight we learned that Dandy wants to be the greatest serial killer of all time. We see him working out in a montage of weirdness. He proclaims that his problems stem from not having a creative outlet since his mother, Gloria wouldn’t let him be an actor. “I hate her!” He screams in his montage while breaking a mirror. While toning and perfecting his body he claims “This body is America. Strong, violent, and full of limitless potential.” Well shit – someone’s cocky! Then, in true serial killer fashion he goes on to say “my body holds a heart that cannot love.” #classic. Sweet Dandy Boy mentions Twisty the Clown and how it was he that introduced him to the art of murder. With that Dandy is off to none other than the same gay bar that Del Toledo has just stormed out of and a distressed Andy is now accompanied by a handsome stranger. Dandy takes the prostitute to his old stomping grounds of Twisty’s van. He tells Andy that he wants them both to turn around with their backs facing each other and take off their clothes. On the count of three, they’ll both turn around. On Andy’s third count, Dandy turns around with Twisty’s smiling mask and stabs Andy repeatedly. “Rule number one of a good killer” Dandy says, “make sure all of the evidence is gone. Start with the limbs.” We then see him throw an amputated arm into a bath tub of sulfuric acid. He then goes back into the van, but the prostitute has not yet died. “How can you still be alive?!” Dandy cries, “you’re making me feel bad!” At this point, Andy is pleading for death and Dandy Boy, being the merciful killer that he is delivers the final stabs into his victims back.

dandy

One final surprise: Once Elsa learns of Bette and Dotte’s television show plans, she tells the girls that Mr. Spencer has asked her to mentor them. She tells the twins that she has booked them an appointment with a stylist in town for the following morning. So off the ladies go, but the twins discover that they’re not being driven into town but to the front door step of Miss Gloria and Dandy’s home. “I believe I have something that you want,” Elsa declares as she gestures grandly to the girls. Uh oh!!!!

That was some pretty heavy stuff! I thought that “Pink Cupcakes” was a fantastic filler episode. We learned a lot of new secrets about our beloved freak show troupe and it will definitely create some intense drama next week! What did you guys love about tonight’s episode? What did you hate? Leave me a comment and let’s chat! Goodnight. -Sarah

OOTD – College Kid Edition

OOTD – College Kid Edition

Hey! So first of all, sorry for being MIA recently – I’ve had a hell of a past few days…and not in the good way. Having said that, yesterday I did what I told myself that I would never EVER do…I wore sweat pants to college. But WAIT! Let me explain myself!! I have up to get ready for school at 6:45 in the morning every Tuesday and Thursday. Yesterday morning it was chilly and overcast and all I wanted was to be as comfortable as humanly possible during my hour long drive to Cleveland and in my classes. So while I was getting ready and picking out an outfit, my eyes scanned from cute maxi skirts, dresses I could pair with tights, super skinny skinny jeans, and my new pair of sweat pants from Aerie. I reevaluated all of my options carefully and then rolled my eyes and said “f*** it” and grabbed the sweats. I always thought that during my college career I would be that super fashionable girl who wouldn’t be caught dead in lounge wear. Well since that thought went down the drain, I still tried to make my comfy cozy look as cute as possible. My mom even told me that I looked really cute, so I think I succeeded! 😉 Here’s my “college kid” OOTD:

IMG_0994[1]

As usual, here’s the break down of the brands and where I purchased everything in my OOTD:

  • Cargo jacket: PacSun, LA Hearts
  • Embellished t-shirt: Express
  • Sweat pants: Aerie
  • Oxblood boots: TJMaxx, Airway

The thing that I liked the most about this outfit was the color coordinating that I pulled off. The sleeves on my jacket matched the color of my sweats perfectly. AND the detailing on the elbows of my jacket matched my boots as well. As all of you who have read my previous OOTDs know, I’m a big fan of clothing with a little surprise in all of it. I love the patchwork elbows on my jacket, the laser cut doilie detailing on the boots, the crocheted stripe going down the side of the sweats, and the industrial stud embellishment on the collar of my t-shirt. Clothes with that extra little pop can turn a potentially not so cute outfit (like my college kid look yesterday!) into a stylish comfy cozy look instead. All together my outfit probably cost me $100 or so. If you like the Aerie sweats I have on, you can go to http://www.aerie.com and purchase a pair of your own, as they are brand new! They have a bunch of different colors as well, including heather grey, navy, teal, tan, and wine. I liked my charcoal grey pair so much that I got it in the wine color too! AND I got them for buy one get one half off – you guys know how much I love a good bargain!

So there you have it – my mother approved and Sarah approved college kid OOTD. I turned comfort into cuteness and I’m very pleased with how it turned out. So pleased that I don’t even hate myself too much for wearing sweats to school! 😉

What’s your favorite lounge wear piece to dress up and wear in public? What are your go to tips on dressing up an article of clothing that you wear for comfort? Leave me a comment and let’s chat! I Love Mondays – Seriously!

I Love Mondays – Seriously!

I never EVER thought I’d say this….but I love Mondays. I do, I do. Monday is the day I get all of my assignments in for my online classes at Tri-C and it just so happens that my schedule at Next usually allows for me to be off on Mondays, since I work all weekend. So for me, Monday turns into a day of sleeping in until whenever I want, lounging in sweats, wearing no makeup, and working on college assignments in bed. It’s the BEST. All of the assignments I get on Monday morning usually aren’t due until Sunday night, but because I’m off all day I try to get as much done as possible. I did a buttload of reading today, I’m talking over 100 pages in a textbook buttload. It sucked. But my diligence in completing the chapters and taking notes then going back through and highlighting them paid off. I got a 100 on my quiz for the week! My first perfect score of my college career! I was so freaking proud. I may be attending school in an unconventional way but I’m still just as much of a student as the kids attending school on campus. Getting that score proved this to me, and for the first time I really do feel like a college student. After about six hours of nonstop reading and note taking, I called it quits. Now I only have an essay to complete which isn’t due until the 16th – which is awesome considering I have NO clue what to write about. We have to write an essay explaining a concept to the reader. I’ve been racking my brains all day for a good concept to write about and I’m drawing a blank. Everything that there is to write about is just so broad and I’m having a really hard time narrowing stuff down to just one general idea. If any of you guys have any topics that you think might work for a college composition class, please let me know!

Today was full of educating and beautifying myself. After I wrapped up all of my school work, it was time for some pampering. My eyebrows were in desperate need of a good pluckin’ and thankfully my sister is the queen of the tweezers. That girl can shape up eyebrows like nobody’s business. After my brows were shaped to perfection, it was time to dye my hair. I like to dye my hair every month to keep my red nice and vibrant. As I’ve mentioned before, I use the Runway Red coloring in Vidal Sassoon’s London Luxe collection.

IMG_0991[1]

This stuff is seriously MAGIC. It’s a must for any redhead that’s looking for bright, bold, “look at me” hair. I’m not lying or exaggerating when I say that my hair turns out identical to the color example on the box. This is also the color that I paid a lot of money to get month after month in a salon. You can’t beat five dollars a month for a box of color and salon quality results! Today I also began using Biore’s Deep Pore Charcoal Cleanser.

IMG_0992[1]

I must say that this stuff is FABULOUS. A sample of this cleanser was available in a magazine I was reading, so I ripped it out and gave it a try. I kid you not, that after one use almost all of my blackheads were eliminated. I knew that I had to have this cleanser in my arsenal of skin care products, so the next day I went to Target and purchased it. I have four piercings on my nose, two on each nostril and that’s where I tend to get a lot of blackheads. After I used the cleanser tonight, I took a look in the mirror and all of the blemishes around my piercings were gone. The charcoal in this product attracts all the dirt and grime like a magnet and leaves your skin invigorated with a rush of an icy chill. I can’t recommend this cleanser enough.

I forgot to mention the comfy cozy feeling I’ve had all day in my new sweats from Aerie.

IMG_0993[1]

I’ve been snuggled up in these bad boys all day while working and pampering. I’ve been in desperate need of new sweat pants, as I haven’t bought a new pair in over two years since I don’t really feel the need. Especially when my sister’s vast collection of Victoria’s Secret yoga pants is right down the hall! But finally I purchased these sweats in the heather grey and in tan when I made my way to the mall a few nights ago. Both colors of the sweats were marked down 60% off, so I got both of them for about twenty-four dollars! You can’t beat that! If you go on http://www.aerie.com you can find these sweats and a bunch of other cute fall sale items for a crazy good deal! You may have noticed that I have a new book I’ve started reading in my sweat pant picture. I started Before I Go To Sleep by S.J. Watson last night which was a big mistake because I couldn’t put it down! I’m about forty pages in, so I’m not far enough to give you guys a good synopsis of what’s going on, but expect an article by the time I’m half way through it!

So there you have it, my Monday Funday! Make sure you guys check in for my review of Dancing With The Stars tonight since it’s Middle Aged Monday. And if you have a good topic to write about for a concept essay, leave me a comment and let’s chat! Have a good night! -Sarah

Halloween Fun!

Halloween Fun!

Happy Halloween! I hope all of you guys had a fantastically fun Halloween weekend! I know I did. You guys are gonna laugh when I tell you that I didn’t go out at all for Halloween. I stayed home and watched The Conjuring with my parents and hit the hay. I’ve been working nonstop these past few days at Next on top of my school work and to top it off, I’ve been a bit under the weather. So I opted to stay home. My parents and I had a blast watching The Conjuring together. It was so appropriately playing on HBO on Halloween night! I saw this movie when it came out in theaters with my sister and we were both scared senseless, but my parents had never seen it before since they’re not big scary movie fans. They were in for a treat! My mom screamed so many times during the flick it was ridiculous – but then again when I first saw the movie, I was that girl in the theater screaming my ass off! There were so many times when we were watching that I jumped along with the rents at the scary parts even though I had already seen the movie! I just couldn’t help myself!! Now when I mentioned earlier that my parents aren’t big scary movie fans, I was putting it lightly. They hate them. So it was funny to me that both my mom and dad really enjoyed the movie! The cool thing about The Conjuring is that it’s not just a stupid slasher film – there’s an actual story behind all of the scary stuff. I think that’s why myself and my parents enjoyed the movie. And can I just say, the girl who plays April in that movie is the cutest little thing in the whole world! Such a doll. Before movie night started with my parents, my sister needed help getting in costume for the Halloween party she was attending with her boyfriend, Ramon. Kristen dressed up as Link from The Legend of Zelda and looked SO FREAKING CUTE! While Ramon opted for being a ninja. The entire time Kristen was primping and preparing, Ramon and I kept laughing about how easy guys have it in life. All Ramon had to do was throw on a black hoodie and pants and he had a costume! Kristen spent at least an hour getting picture perfect, it probably took Ramon ten minutes! Lucky! They both looked great though, as you can see in the pictures below!

IMG_1070IMG_1071

Kristen and Ramon are seriously the cutest couple ever. I love them both so much. The best thing about them is that they never make me feel like I’m the third wheel when we’re all hanging out together. We always end up having a blast! They were so sweet, the entire time Kristen was getting ready they both tried to get me to go with them to the party, but I politely declined. It’s hard going out and going to parties when you’re only twenty, because at some point or another everyone ends up going to the bars, and I can’t go. Maybe I should just get a fake ID like McLovin in Superbad! 😉 I already knew that’s what was going to happen on Halloween night, because my sister had previously mentioned that that was the game plan. But when I’m twenty-one next year, look out!! All in all, it was a super fun Halloween night. I had a ball hanging out with my sister and her man candy until they left and I had some great quality time with my parents as well!

ATTENTION ALL READERS! HELP!!!

Alright guys, I met the coolest dude at work at Next tonight, and I NEED you guys to give him some love. Dominic Mashorda is the NINETEEN YEAR OLD owner of his own business. A sneaker store in Youngstown, Ohio that is so very originally called Sneakerville. 😉 Best believe I have to represent everyone doing it big in my home state. Dominic came into my store tonight looking to buy some gear to resell in his business. This young man was such a pleasure to talk and hang out with – and a lot of talking and hanging out was done considering he was in Next for over two hours. I’m not going to disclose how much money was spent in the time he was there, but sweet Dominic left with bags full of rad new merch for Sneakerville. His story is seriously one of the most insane tales of motivation and dedication I’ve ever heard, so please read up on him. This awesome article I found basically explains it all:

http://businessjournaldaily.com/company-news/18-year-old-entrepreneur-opens-sneakerville-store-2014-1-20

If you could also make sure to give him the love and likes on Facebook and Twitter it would be greatly appreciated.

Here’s Sneakerville’s Twitter page: https://twitter.com/SNKRVL

And Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/SNKRVL

Credit is deserved when credit is due, and every ounce of success this kid earns is so well deserved. Dominic was so sweet and humble the entire time he was in the store. There were two young teenage boys who were checking out the new pair of Lebron’s that launched today while Dom was paroosing the store. Dominic had already set aside a size to purchase for Sneakerville, which happened to be the size one of the boys needed. Without a moments hesitation he offered the kicks to the young man and made his day. After he was done with his shopping, Dominic offered to take myself and my coworker out to Chipotle after we closed up for the night – but unfortunately, Chipotle had the same idea because they were closed too! 😦 It was such a kind gesture though!

I have a deep admiration and respect for young men and women out in the world who are making it happen, so it only felt right to give my new friend and young entrepreneur a shout out on here. And let me just repeat…Dominic is NINETEEN. He’s out there making things happen that people twice his age are doing. If that’s not impressive, than I really don’t know what is. I’m older than Dom by a year, but his experience made him seem years above me. Meeting this young man made me want to get my ass in gear and start working even harder for the things I want in life: My college degree, a faithful band of followers on http://www.lifewithlilred.com, and to continue to pursue theater acting work on the side. Seeing this young man reach his dreams at such a young age was the inspiration I needed to keep putting in work for everything I aspire to accomplish. If you have time, give Dominic Mashorda a Google or Yahoo search. Familiarize yourself with his work and the face of a kid who’s going to take the business world by storm.

What makes a great business man or woman to you? What is your definition of success? What’s a dream that you’re working to make a reality? I want to hear from you! Leave me a comment and let’s chat. Have a fantastic Thursday night! -Sarah

American Horror Story – Episode 4

Alright, A LOT happened in tonight’s episode of American Horror Story: Freak Show. It was the part two episode to last weeks “Edward Mordrake”. Quite frankly, I don’t really wish to discuss anything other than the man behind the mask of Twisty the Clown.

IMG_0975[1]

IMG_0981[1]

Twisty the Clown’s Back Story:

If you would be so kind as to remember Edward Mordrake (Wes Bentley), you’ll recall that he’s in search of a freak to add to his undead troupe. To find who he is looking for, he interrogates the performers – digging into their dark past. Their traumas, regrets, sins – Edward wants to know. Mordrake stumbled upon our friend Twisty, in the middle of his questioning of Elsa (who’s back story I will discuss later.) Mordrake becomes interrupted from his interrogation once he hears the music of Twisty’s tiny toy piano, which he is playing to accompany Dandy’s Halloween performance of tricks and treats. He follows the music to find Twisty, whom he urges to remove his mask. The clown refuses, and Edward basically tells him don’t make me make you. With that, our misunderstood friend removes his mask. As you can see in the picture posted above, he looks so sad to reveal himself. The poor thing looked like he was in pain. For the first time in season four, we get to hear Twisty’s voice. And with that, we begin to learn about what turned this man into a killer. “I was a good clown,” he began, “the children loved me. I made them laugh.” We are then taken back in time, to when Twisty was a performer at a freak show. He was a clown for the children. Entertaining them with fun tricks and balloon animals. He was a hit. Unfortunately, his popularity was not met with kindness from the rest of the freak show troupe who made claims of their seniority. Then they made a cruel, sick lie saying that Twisty was getting a little too friendly with the children whom he so loved to perform for. One night after a performance, the troupe invites our clown to sit around the fire. Twisty is clearly mentally disabled and his cast mates call him “simpleton”. They ask the clown “why he talks so stupid? Did your mom drop you on the head?” “How did you know?!!” Twisty replies, “too many cocktails.” The troupe then begins to tell Twisty how everyone knows what he did to the children, and that soon the police are going to come for him. “You better run,” they said. And so he did. Twisty ran back to his home in Jupiter, only to find that his mother was dead. To try and make some good out of his sickly sad situation, Twisty tries to make toys. He creates simple contraptions that he thinks are sure to entertain, and then off he goes to the toy store to try and pitch his ideas. When his toys are turned down, it deeply upset him and the owner threatens to call the police if he doesn’t leave. And so he left. This disappointment was the straw that broke this young mans back, and he attempted suicide. He put what appeared to be a hunting rifle into his mouth, and pulled the trigger. “I was too dumb to kill myself,” he said. While his face was bandaged and healing, he made an outline of a smiling face on the bandages with his blood. And so his mask was formed. Off Twisty ran to Elsa’s freak show. Only to see that all of the children that Twisty loved to do tricks for were there. The freak show stole the children, and Twisty had to get them back. He began killing parents and kidnapping the children. “I didn’t make them do chores, I gave them candy, I got them a pretty babysitter (our heroine amongst the kidnapped), I was a good clown.” After Twisty told his tale, Edward Mordrake stated “you have made the demon weep.” He told the clown to rise, and killed him, to make him part of his undead troupe. Twisty was then reincarnated in the same ghostly form as Mordrake. “Come, my brother,” Edward says as he helps him up. Once Twisty rises, we see the man who he used to be. It was the most strangely beautiful thing I’ve ever seen.

I’ll be the first one to say that I absolutely bawled my eyes out during Twisty’s back story. It broke my heart to see such an innocent being become completely sabotaged by the mean hearted carnival troupe members. The entire time Twisty was telling his story, I couldn’t help but think about just how innocent he is. His reasoning behind his murders and kidnappings was so childlike that it almost made sense when he described it. This villain was so misunderstood his entire life, and I could feel my heart going out to him and sympathizing with him the entire time. Saying that I bawled my eyes out was an understatement….I was ugly crying.

Tonight we learned another very important back story. Miss Elsa’s. Her past was equally as tragic as Twisty’s in her own right.

Elsa’s Back Story:

During Edward Mordrake’s interrogation of Elsa, we learn about her deepy troubled and tragic past. We are taken back in time to the Wiemar Republic in Germany circa 1932. We are taken into a brothel, where we bear witness to unspeakable sexual acts, until we get to the very back room. There, we meet the ghost of Elsa’s past – a leather clad dominatrix. We see her emasculating a young soldier by putting a dog collar on his neck and making him walk on his hands and knees. “Walk, schnauzer.” “Does the puppy have to go pee pee?” She asks him. She then walks the man to a toilet with nails sticking out of it and forces him to sit. Ouch. Miss Elsa begins building a reputation as the gal to go to for some creative sexual torture. She gained an audience of people whom she called “watchers” who would sit through her sessions with her victims. “I was the star.” Flash forward to a new scene, where we learn that Elsa got asked to be filmed by one of the watchers. While she is on the bed, the camera man urges her to have another drink – clearly Elsa has been drugged. “Are you getting my close up? Where is my costar?” She asks. About three men then come into the room, and the camera begins rolling. A drugged Elsa is then cuffed to the bed, and her legs are sawed off. The young soldier whom she would emasculate would find her and save her life, as she was left to bleed to death. “He followed me everywhere, he fell in love with his whore.” The sick film made it’s way through out Europe, and Elsa became a star in the worst way.

There was one thing I truly adored about this episode aside from all the fabulous information that we learned. And that was Edward Mordrake’s manor of speaking. I loved hearing him talk to these freak show members, and people who were severely down on their luck. He spoke to them with such care and his facial expressions were mesmerizing. Whenever he would refer to whom he was speaking to as “my dear one, my lovely, my children, my wonder” my heart would melt. Something about this was so sweet to me. He was calling these people things that they probably have never heard themselves referred to as before. He called Twisty “my wonder”. That clown has probably never been called anything but “simpleton” all of his life. It touched my heart, and I appreciate the writing for Mordrakes’s character so so much.

Now, let’s do a quick recap of all of the other good stuff that happened tonight:

We find Jimmy Darling and Maggie Esmeralda where we left them last episode, on their way home so as not to break curfew. Unfortunately, Jimmy’s bike runs out of gas, and they’re forced to walk. We then get to see our sweet crew of kidnapped kids in Twisty’s van. The “pretty babysitter” gets her legs untied with the help of one of the boys. Upon Twisty’s return, she kicks him in the legs when his back is turned and takes off running. As usual, our girl gets caught – but she’s in luck, because Jimmy and Maggie are there to witness the whole thing. They follow the clown into the forest and are crouching close to the van making a game plan when Dandy comes waltzing along to smack them both in the head. “Now the real Halloween fun begins,” he says. We are then shown a stage in the woods where we see Dandy with a human sized box, and Twisty playing on his tiny child’s piano off to the side. The newly kidnapped Jimmy and the rest of the victims are tied up and seated in the audience. Then, Dandy introduces us to his assistant “Tiny Tits” AKA Maggie, who’s in the box. Dandy states that he’s always been curious about how the sawing a human in half trick works, and begins to try it on Maggie. Thankfully sweet Jimmy gets himself untied, whacks Dandy, and saves the day. They take off running, and Maggie gets the three kidnapped kids to the road and the police. Jimmy gets caught by Twisty and is taken off to the van, while Dandy is left screaming “you ruined my Halloween fun! I hate you I hate you I hate you!” Jimmy witnesses Twisty’s interaction with Mordrake and is then found by the police. Of course the episode isn’t going to end with everyone happy happy joy joy. We are joined again by Mr. Dandy, who discovers Twisty’s dead body in the woods. He takes the smiling mask the clown wore, and puts it on. He then makes his way home, only to be hassled by his arch enemy, Dora the maid. Their interaction together is brief, because after refusing to take a lunch tray up to his mother, he slits Dora’s throat with a pair of scissors. The episode ends with Dandy removing the smiling mask showing his own serious face which then breaks into a smile and an eventual maniacal laugh. End scene.

I absolutely LOVED this episode. What did you guys think of it? How did you feel about Twisty’s back story? How did you feel about Elsa’s? What do you think is going to happen next week? Leave me a comment and let’s chat! Goodnight. -Sarah

A gift from me to you!

A gift from me to you!

Earlier this week I mentioned to my parents that I would like to start a map tracker of where all of my lovely blog readers are located around the world. My dad promptly went down into our scary basement and returned with a huge map of the world. I finished all of my homework super early today (pat on the back for me!) so I thought tonight would be a great time to get to work on my project, and here’s the final result: (All of the European countries are basically stacked onto each other because my post it notes were too big! Sorry! But I can assure all of you that I labeled every single country that I have a reader from with care 🙂 )

IMG_0963[1]

This evening I printed out my list of countries that have viewed http://www.lifewithlilred.com, laid my map out onto the hallway, and got to work. It was SO fun labeling all of the different locations, because it was like a scavenger hunt to find all of the home lands while the map text was in such a small print! I almost needed a magnifying glass for some of the itty bitty ones! It made it even better that my dad helped me find all of the places that I had trouble locating. I was honestly blown away by how knowledgeable my dad was about geography. There were so many times this evening when I would holler “DAD! Where is (insert country name here)?!” and without thinking my dad could give me an exact location of what I needed. My father loved traveling back in the day. He’s been all over Europe and lived in Thailand for about a year when he served in the Navy. Remembering these things about my old man made me appreciate our time together making this project even more. I felt like he enjoyed it just as much as I did, and that was really special to me. Every day my dad makes it a point to ask me where I have readers from, and it really touches my heart. The fact that he shows interest in my blogging which I enjoy so much really means a lot to me. Unplanned daddy daughter time tonight was a definite success!

I want to thank everyone who takes the time out of their day to read my blog. Please consider my mapping project tonight as a tiny gift from me to you. I thought about all of you guys when I was labeling my map. What you were up to, what the weather was like, what time of day is it in your home land. When I was working on this map, it was a weirdly warm October night. The sky in Akron, Ohio gets dark so quickly now so it looked like it was way later into the evening than just seven o’clock. I thought about the sun setting and rising in different areas of the world, and I felt so connected with all of you, and it was really amazing. Every day I look forward to reading all of your fantastic thoughts in your articles, and I hope the feeling is just as mutual for mine! Have a lovely Tuesday night, and know that someone in A-k-Rowdy, Ohio is sending some good vibes your way.

As a friendly reminder, it’s Hump Day tomorrow and you know what that means…AMERICAN HORROR STORY!!!!!!! It’s one of my favorite things in the world to write my weekly episode reviews, so make sure you check back in with me tomorrow for my thoughts on episode four! Goodnight! -Sarah

Dancing With The Stars – Week 7 (Halloween Episode!)

Dancing With The Stars – Week 7 (Halloween Episode!)

It was Halloween night in the ballroom of ABC Family’s Dancing With The Stars tonight, and it was full of frightening fun! Ghouls, goblins, and zombies took the stage for some scary good…and not so good performances! Here’s a few of the dances that took the cake for me tonight:

Bethany and Derek’s Paso Doble: I’ve never commended Bethany before in my dances of the night, because I’ve never really cared to. But OMG. This little lady was FANTASTIC tonight. I loved this Paso! It was dark, mature, edgy, and so freaking cool. I felt like I was watching a diva queen Little Red Riding Hood with Maleficent hair perform. This routine was the perfect mix of Halloween fun and Paso technique. Not once did I feel like Bethany was being over shadowed or couldn’t handle the theatrics or additional performers in the routine. Derek Hough is too good for words. His choreography and concept ideas are one in a million. I was in love with the red hooded drummers and the creepy soundtrack to this dance. Drop dead gorgeous.

Alfonso and Witney’s Rumba: I feel like I give a shout out to this team every week, but I can’t help myself. They’re my absolute favorite and this Rumba was gorgeous. This routine was a much quicker pace than the Rumba’s we’re used to on DWTS and I loved it. The quick tempo gave this dance an entirely fresh feel but it still held true to traditional Rumba lines, moves, and content. Miss Witney looked absolutely beautiful tonight – like a ghostly little angel! And Alfonso can swerve his hips for days! Lord have mercy!!!! Also, congratulations are in order to him and his expecting wife!

Unfortunately, these were the only two dances that really stuck out for me tonight. If you’ve read my previous reviews of DWTS, you’ll know that I don’t particularly care for Lea and Artem. Their Argentine Tango wasn’t bad tonight, it just wasn’t my cup of tea. Artem’s choreography was unique and different and I can appreciate that, however I didn’t care for the routine. And just because I didn’t give a special shout out to Tommy and Peta tonight, doesn’t mean I didn’t like his performance! His Quickstep was filled with cheeky fun and his kicks and flicks were on point! Bruno was right, “the seasoned magician still has a few tricks up his sleeve!” The Old Black Magic was definitely working in Tommy and Peta’s favor tonight. Mr. Tommy is the oldest celebrity at seventy-six to make it this far in the competition, so major props to him!

Now, onto my critiques and personal opinions of the dances I was not so thrilled with:

Sadie and Mark’s Paso Doble: In the words of my father, who I watch DWTS faithfully with every Monday night: “What was that?” Miss girl was absolutely over powered by this routine. Quite frankly, I can’t take a serious dance like the Paso seriously from a girl holding a teddy bear and a zombie. There was SO much happening in this routine, from the additional dancers and set changes that you could barely even tell what this dance was. It’s really too bad, because when given the opportunity to dance the Paso, the stars are given a chance to show their ability. Unfortunately, this routine showed no ability at all because of the business of the production. Whomp whomp.

Janel and Val’s Viennese Waltz: I actually quite liked the idea of this dance, but there wasn’t a lot of content in the routine. When the dancing was happening, I thought it looked terrific and Janel looked fabulous. That was actually my main and only thought on that performance. Aside from the fact that whomever was performing the song Secret by The Pierces sounded AWFUL. Squeaky squeaky squeakyyyyy. -_______- Having said that, Val looked fine as usual! I wouldn’t mind having a Val doll of my own! ;))

Michael and Emma’s Jive: Oh sweet lord. First off, let me say: I LOVE Michael. I think he’s hilarious, and he tries his best, and I’m a fan. But let’s face it. It’s week eight now, and like Len, I’m absolutely shocked that Michael is still truckin on through the competition. I respect the fact that he gives his all into every routine, but there’s a lot of people who got eliminated who could dance a whole lot better than him. It’s almost unfair that Jonathan and Antonio got the boot before him. Not saying that they were going to win, but they had a lot more to offer to the show. But clearly the fans love this team, so who am I to judge?! The only things I could think of while watching this Jive was “oh my god” (and not in the good way!) and of this classic SNL skit starring Will Ferrell where he happens to sing “The Devil Went Down to Georgia”.

So there you have it, my humble opinions on this Halloween themed episode of Dancing With The Stars. What was your favorite performance tonight? Do you think it was fair that Antonio got eliminated? Who do you think is going to win this season? Leave me a comment and let’s chat! Goodnight. -Sarah

My Positivity Playlist

My Positivity Playlist

So whenever I’m feeling a little down in the dumps, I always tend to gravitate towards my depressing music – which I’m sure is true for a lot of you guys as well. Today I made it a point to only play songs on my iPod that hype me up and make me happy while I was getting ready for the day. Like my cover image says: Every minute spent frowning is sixty seconds of smiling wasted. Besides, it takes more muscles to frown than to smile if I’m not mistaken! So here’s a few songs that I played today that really helped send a surge of positivity through my veins!

Adam Lambert: If I had You. I looooove this song. It makes me want to get up and dance and be as sassy as possible. (I can’t promise you that I looked good while dancing though – but I had fun and that’s all that matters!)

Bleached: Dead in Your Head. This song is full of girl power fun. I was introduced to Bleached at PacSun and am so glad for that. You can also hear this song played on MTV on commercials and in an episode of Awkward.

Cobra Starship: Nice Guys Finish Last. PLEEEASE judge me for getting down to some Cobra Starship, I dare you 😉 They definitely are a guilty pleasure of mine. But that’s the beauty of a positivity playlist – if the song makes you happy then who cares if it sucks?!

Taylor Swift: Shake it Off. I know, I know – shocking. I actually hate Taylor Swift, BUT my mom loves her so I’m forced to hear this song on the radio a lot in the car. “Don’t turn it off Sarah!” This tune grew on me like a fungus and I’m surprised to say I’m not even mad about it!

Mika: Love Today. If you read my past article Lil Red Recommends – part 3, you’ll already know how much I love Mika. This song is probably one of my favorites of his. I love trying to match his falsetto and doing many a hair whips to the beat, a la Willow Smith 😉

Pharrell: Gust Of Wind. This song is FANTASTIC. I loved whenever we would play it at Pac so very much. The lyrics are pretty out there “when I open the window, I wanna hug you, cause you remind me of the air”. So it’s fun to mumble along with what you think are the correct lyrics while Pharrell sings away.

Jonas Brothers: Burnin’ Up. Once again, a MAJOR guilty pleasure! I love those damn Jo-Bros so much it hurts. This song is one of myself and sisters’ funky time jams. Every time we take a longer drive together to where ever we need to be, rest assured that this song plays at least once. High heels (high heels), Red dress (RED DRESS!!!!!)

The Kills: Sour Cherry. Ha cha cha, this song is sassy sexy fun. Alison Mosshart’s sultry voice instantly makes me feel like a bad ass whenever I hear it. Dancing to this little ditty involves a lot of head banging and hip shaking! 😉

Christina Aguilera: Fighter. Oh yes. This song is actually one of my favorites of all time. It has a positive impact on me whether I’m playing it when I’m happy or sad. You know that a song is great when it has the ability to do that. The music video is gorgeous, and XTina’s vocals are never better on this track.

Dexy’s Midnight Runners: Come On Eileen. Nothing says “cheer up” more than a classic 80’s one hit wonder. Fun fact, this song was named the top one hit wonder of the 80’s by vh1! Whenever I hear this song, I wanna put on a pair of overalls and a straw hat and line dance the day away. I dare you to not sing the falsetto hollering of “come on Eileen!” whenever it happens in the song. It’s a must.

So there you have it, ten of the many songs that hype me up. These tunes are sure fire ways to put a smile on my face. What are your favorite positive anthems? What should I add to my playlist? Leave me a comment and let’s chat! -Sarah

Bummed

Bummed

So I’ve been feeling a little down lately, and it’s really getting to me. The worst part is, is that I’m not really sure why I’m feeling so upset. I mean the only thing I can think of off of the top of my head is feeling a little disappointed about my current job. I just feel like I don’t fit in at the store as much as I’d like to, or as much as I did at PacSun. I’ve only been working there for a little over two weeks though, so I’m trying my hardest to stay positive and shake my slump away. It’s not like I’m saying I want everyone at the store to kiss my feet and tell me how amazing I am, but I would like to be shown the same respect that I try to give to everyone. Has no one heard of the golden rule of treating others the way you’d like to be treated anymore?! It’s just so frustrating when I’m so nice to everyone and I don’t get shown that in return. Even when people are not so nice and welcoming to me I try my best to not reciprocate their meanness. The fact that some people can be so rude and off putting and not even care is so baffling to me. On my worst days where I’m irritable and mopey, I would never EVER put my aggravation on others. My emotions are mine. They’re not meant to be forced onto others so everyone can feel just as shitty as myself. This isn’t me getting on a soap box and saying I’m an amazing person, because I have my flaws, but I’ve never really been in a work environment before where people were mean to me. I’m for the most part very well liked. So I guess it’s throwing me off that I’m getting a major cold shoulder from everyone at the new job. Welcome to the real world, I guess. Ha! I’m just gonna have to grow some tougher skin and keep on truckin. It’s really all I can do now. Who knows, maybe this week will be better. Gotta stay positive! I’m glad that I have a lot of stuff to focus on to keep my mind off of the bummed-out-ness. Today is when I get my entire weeks worth of work for my online classes at Tri-C, so I’ll have a lot to keep me busy this week! On a positive note, school is going fantastic! I’m enjoying myself so much that I’ve already begun considering staying an additional two years to get a Bachelors degree instead of an Associates. I’ve also been playing around with the idea to do one or two one year certificate programs on top of my Associates degree. My high school years sucked, which I’m pretty sure I’ve mentioned a million times prior to this. But if there’s one thing that I really did enjoy in high school (and there weren’t many!) it was learning. I loved being in a classroom and listening to the teachers talk, go through Power Points, and hold group discussions. I loved feeling my brain swell with knowledge after a particularly difficult class. My grades didn’t often reflect on my love for learning because I was having such a hard time personally. But that doesn’t take away from the fact that I would describe learning as fun. It feels so good to feel like I’m putting my brain to good use. I decided that next semester, I’d really like to take some classes on the actual college campus as opposed to doing everything online. I’m looking forward to hearing the lectures and interacting with my fellow students. Fingers crossed that I can make some friends in my classes as well! Tri-C is an insanely diverse school, so it will be fun meeting different people from countless different backgrounds. I feel like half of the fun of the college experience is getting to meet everyone! Whenever I think of all of the exciting stuff with school, it helps me feel more positive about some of the not so great things that are happening. Wish me luck this week at work and please send some good vibes my way!
