Happy Haulidays: Sweet Boys Edition

Hello!! This past weekend, I received the last of my Christmas gifts that came from Johnny’s best friend since childhood, Cliff. Coincidentally, we all went to the same grade school and Cliff’s family actually used to babysit me. Ever since Johnny and I began dating, Cliff has become my bestie too and his gift to me was the absolute sweetest. I also got an extra surprise from Johnny and our other darling boy, Ty, during our last game night. They sure know how to spoil me! Check it out:

image_50734337image_50442497(3)image_50416897(7)image_50734081(1)image_50440961(6)

^^^ The wrapping paper Cliff used is vintage from the 70s, which is so cool!

I couldn’t wait to open my gift from Cliff because both him and Johnny claimed that I was going to love it and, of course, wouldn’t give me any hints! As much as I appreciated the beautifully wrapped gift box, I tore it open and had to laugh when I saw what was inside: A hoodie from H&M. One time when Cliff came over several months ago, I put on his exact same hoodie but in grey because it was freezing. It was also so comfy that I just kind of “forgot” to give it back lol. He took this as a Christmas gift idea and ordered one just for me immediately after! I was so touched by how thoughtful it was and it is definitely one of my favorite gifts that I was given this Christmas. In fact, I am wearing it right now!

In case you haven’t noticed by my Instagram content, I freaking love Sam from Trick ‘R Treat. He is just so precious and adorable. 🙂 One of our musician pals, Ty, is well aware of this and surprised me with a Sam Funko Pop! Ty texted me a picture of the cutest Funko ever and asked if I had it already. I didn’t even know it existed! When he came over later that week for games and music and emerged in the front door with a gift in hand, I knew exactly what it was. Sam the Funko is now nestled in with the rest of the Pops in our growing collection. Don’t tell the others that he’s my fave, though. 😉

Finally, when Johnny had a few errands to run he returned home with a post Christmas gift for me. Yes, another Sam related piece of merchandise that is his deadly lollipop! Sadly, he thought he selected the unbroken one but they were actually all broke and he didn’t realize it lol. That’s no matter, though, because the lollipop is strictly for the knick knack shelf and not for human consumption! Broke or not, it makes a fine addition to our Halloween themed decor. ❤

I am, honestly, so flattered by my gifts from my best boyfriends. Both Cliff and Ty were Johnny’s friends for a long time and it warmed my heart that they thought about me at Christmas too. I feel so lucky for all of the love!!

Are you friends with your partner’s friends? What is one of the most thoughtful gifts you have received? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

Spring Skirt Savvy OOTD

Spring Skirt Savvy OOTD

Hello everyone and welcome to a brand new OOTD here on lifewithlilred! This past week, I had an interview for a new job coaching position and had to take advantage of the fact that I was wearing makeup by making Johnny take some pictures… Even if it was just in our apartment’s parking lot lol. Hey, you work with what you’ve got. These pictures combine three of my favorite things: My new hair, my car, and spring skirts! Check it out:

image_50459649(2)image_50433025image_50449921(1)image_50413569(1)image_50736641(1)image_50425601image_50458369(1)image_50419457(2)image_50402817image_50418945image_50407425(2)

Who? What? Wear?

  • White Blouse: H&M
  • Floral Skirt: Love On A Hanger, TJMaxx
  • Heels: ModCloth
  • Turquoise Necklace: My brother got me this necklace in New Mexico 🙂
  • Gold Cuff: Aerie
  • Little Red Love Machine: Mazda 2 Hatchback Sport ❤

I have been hinting at a new OOTD for a while and, believe you me, I have wanted to take pictures SO. Bad. However, the weather has been crap for the past couple of weeks here. It has been frigid cold and rainy so not only did I have to take advantage of my painted face during this shoot but the nice weather too! It was bright and sunny, making for the perfect climate for OOTD pictures.

This outfit is a fairly simple one but I think that it is so fabulous to finally welcome the spring weather with. I have been itching to wear my new Love On A Hanger skirt from TJMaxx since I bought it a few weeks ago and was very happy to finally break it out… Even if it was just for twenty minutes worth of picture taking. 😀

My original thought was to pair this skirt with my favorite white Rachel Zoe tank top because that is what I was wearing the day I tried it on in the fitting room. Although it looked cute, it didn’t pack enough punch so I returned to my closet for something different. I decided to go with a white blouse from H&M, instead. It is old as the dickens but it worked just right when tucked into the skirt.

As you all know, I am very fond of this particular style of skirt. The high waist, short length, and tight fit is so flattering. And, the beauty of these skirts is that if you tuck a shirt into it, it gives the illusion of wearing a dress. The breezy fabric of my H&M blouse offered some movement even while tucked in, which I liked because the canvas like material of the skirt definitely doesn’t provide that!

When it comes to wearing these skirts, constructing the basis of the outfit isn’t as important as the shoes that you choose. Typically, a bold pattern speaks for itself and you don’t have to do much to make it work. However, it’s crucial to pair skirts like this with a shoe that doesn’t have any straps. The high waist mini skirt gives your body such a nice, leggy silhouette and strappy shoes will ruin the length that you created.

The heels that I went with are an Old Faithful from ModCloth. I’m actually pretty sure they are one of my first purchases from that site! The cornflower blue flowers in the heels matched perfectly with those in my skirt, which made both of the patterns work together. Remember, when mixing and matching patterns that you need a like color in both pieces for a cohesive look!

I didn’t want to go overboard with my accessories because I loved how my tattoos looked against a somewhat muted palette. I went with one of my favorite gold cuffs and for a pop of color, I added my turquoise necklace from my brother. This necklace was the ideal length and hit right where my blouse opens up at the collar for a sweet peek a boo of blue.

I cannot wait to wear my Spring Skirt Savvy OOTD for more than twenty minutes and it is a look that you will be seeing more of. Tune in tomorrow to peep my new nails, then it will be on to bonus pictures and bloopers. See you then!

What is your favorite thing about springtime? What is your favorite style of skirt? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

Flight Of Fancy OOTD

Flight Of Fancy OOTD

Hello everyone and welcome to a brand new OOTD from my Thanksgiving weekend! This past Saturday, Johnny and I visited our favorite bar, the Cashmere Cricket, and then met up with my parents and niece for a Santa parade in downtown Cuyahoga Falls. As always, Johnny was kind enough to take some pics of yours truly – he’s a total blog husband! This is one of my favorite OOTDs that I’ve done in a long time so let’s get to it:

image_50426881image_67509761image_67211777image_67502849image_67196929image_50448129image_50408705

Who? What? Wear?

I have been waiting for the right occasion to break out my feather collar and I thought that a day date with Johnny was the perfect time to do so. This OOTD is exciting to me because most of the pieces that are in this look are fairly old and just one accessory breathed new life into all of them. In fact, I totally forgot that I even owned the Express blazer that I purchased during a trip to Goodwill!

When I originally was styling this outfit, I had a simple black sweater on but it wasn’t doing anything for me. I decided a pop of color was needed and went with a white button down that I had bought at H&M forever ago. It has seriously been years since I have worn that shirt and it was just what this outfit needed against the all black palette.

Another thing that I struggled a bit with was finding the right coat to wear because it was friggen freezing that day! One of my heavy winter jackets did the feather collar no favors and I knew that I needed something thinner, despite the cold. Anything for fashion! It took a second trip back into my closet to discover the Express blazer and it was perfect for the sleek silhouette that I had envisioned.

Finally, all that was left were pants and shoes and what I went with was an obvious choice for an almost All Black Everything OOTD. With simple pieces and one outrageous accessory, I felt like a model when my husband was taking my pictures. It was also so nice to revisit one of the spots where we had our engagement photo shoot!

Once I was satisfied with the pics that Johnny took, we warmed up in the Cashmere Cricket while we waited for the parade to start. I enjoyed a delicious color changing martini called The Butterfly Effect and I definitely know what I’ll be ordering again the next time we go!

An Open Letter To My Black Skinny Jeans

An Open Letter To My Black Skinny Jeans

Heyy everyone and happy Saturday! So as you guys know (because I’ve mentioned it over five million times), I only wear black skinny jeans. No blue denim, no other color – just black on black on black. And as you guys also know, I love my H&M black skinnies more than almost anything. So this post is me sending a quick letter of gratitude to my beloved skinny jeans for all of the good that they do and all of the happiness that they bring me. ❤

Dear H&M Black Skinnies,

First off, let me just tell you how much I love you. The day that I bought you at H&M was one of the best days of my life. I’ll never forget the feeling of pure euphoria I felt when I saw you hanging up in all of your midnight black glory. You were SO skinny, SO black, and don’t even get me started on your amazing details like your zippered ankles and quilted knees. It was truly love at first sight. When I tried you on in the fitting room and you slid on like a glove, I knew that we were in for a lifetime of fashion friendship. Thank you for always being there for me – whether that be to make me feel a bit less shitty on a roll out of bed day or to make me feel fierce and fabulous on my days of being a total bad ass. Thank you for making my legs and ass look awesome and thank you for looking amazing with literally every shoe in my gigantic collection…heels, wedges, Nike’s, combat boots, knee high boots, flats, and don’t even get me started on booties! Hot damn! Not only do you look great with all of my shoes – but you literally look terrific with every single shirt and jacket in my vast wardrobe…Tanks, T’s, cardis, blazers, pea coats, trench coats, flowy shirts, tight tops, crops – you compliment them all and that makes my heart feel very warm. 😉 Major shout out to you for not making me look fat, because I’m totally convinced that all bottoms in any other color makes me look like a heifer. And most importantly – thanks for not even feeling like denim, which I’m not entirely sure that you are. You’re sleek, sharp, coated, and the material definitely doesn’t have the feel of blue jean denim which I hate with a passion. I’m not exaggerating when I say that feeling you on my skin is far better than the touch of any asshole man. Men come and go, but a perfect pair of skinnies lasts forever!!! You are perfection, and I’m so happy that you’re all mine.

I LOVE YOU!!!!!

^^^ THEY’RE SO BEAUTIFUL!!! :’) I wear these little babies more often than I care to admit and I’m one hundred and fifty percent okay with it!

Is there a piece of clothing or a shoe in your wardrobe that you love just as much as I love my skinnies? Where did you buy them from? What makes you love them like crazy? I wanna hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Have a great day! -Sarah

Happy Easter!!!!

Hello one and all and Happy Easter a bit early to those who celebrate! I won’t be checking in tomorrow, so I thought I’d send you all a quick hello now! I decided that I needed some fun new pics for lifewithlilred today, so my mom took some lovely outdoor pictures of me! Spring has finally sprung in Ohio so it was the perfect weather to rock a little skirt and heels combination! Pardon me while I flood you with photos of myself! 😉 AYYYYYY

Holla atcha girl!! Here’s a break down of what I was wearing in these pictures:

  • Polka dot blouse: Aerie
  • Faux suede skirt: H&M
  • Heels: TJMaxx, BCBGeneration

I absolutely adore this sassy spring outfit! My H&M skirt is one of my newest purchases and I was so excited to break it out today. It matches perfectly with the golden polka dots in my navy blue blouse and the tan heels tie the look together to perfection. I can’t wait to wear this outfit to class because I feel like it’s such a smart and chic look. It’s a fairly preppy outfit, but the faux suede of the skirt and my chunky heels definitely give an edgy twist that I always try to incorporate in all of my looks. If you’re a fan of the skirt, it should be available in stores and online at http://www.hm.com! AND if you sign up for their weekly newsletter you get a twenty percent off of one item coupon! You’re welcome! 🙂

The Easter fun continued into the evening when I went over to my sweet best friend Lea’s house to color Easter eggs. It’s one of our favorite best friend traditions and we always have an absolute blast! Here we are looking fierce:

easter

Our eggs turned out fabulous and vibrant and I had such a lovely time hanging out with her and her family! And FYI, twenty years old is not too old to color Easter eggs! 😉

I hope all of you have a wonderful time celebrating Easter tomorrow if that’s your thing or just hanging out and having a normal day! Don’t miss me too much tomorrow and make sure you check back in with me on Monday for the usual Monday Update segment! What are some of your favorite Easter traditions? If you dyed eggs, how did yours turn out? And if you got super creative with your eggs…how did you do it?!! Lol, Lea and I could barely handle a different color on the top and bottom of ours!! I’d love to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Have a great rest of your weekend. -Sarah

PS: Special thanks to my gorgeous mama for taking my pictures today! Love you! ❤ Even though you were just aimlessly “pressing buttons” the whole time! 😉

Crocker Park Fun!!

Crocker Park Fun!!

Hello all and happy Saturday! I had an absolutely fabulous time shopping at Crocker Park yesterday with my lovely Kate! We braved the spring time snow in Ohio to get our shop on and it was so worth it. And great news: I found a mustard yellow shirt that I’m in love with!! H&M has the cutest new spring and summer clothes out right now, and taking advantage of my twenty percent off coupon resulted in three to die for new pieces for under sixty dollars! Take a look: #ballinonabudget

1

Embellished mid length blouse: Yeeeee! I absolutely ADORE this shirt. In fact, it’s my favorite thing that I got yesterday. I’m really excited about this piece because I don’t own anything pure white and I don’t own anything like this shirt in general. I usually shy away from button down tops and blouses because I find them unflattering on me. I’m also not a huge fan of “flowy” clothing because I prefer my clothes to be more form fitting. However, this sassy little blouse is too perfect for words. The embellished collar and mid length cut of the shirt gives it the rock n’ roll edge that I always search for in my clothing. The blouse hits right at the waist line of my black skinnies which I love because it shows some skin while you’re moving about. I love clothes that play peek a boo with my side tattoo. This semi sheer shirt is also the perfect one to show off the intentional exposed bra trend which I’m pretty hyped about too! I love this blouse so much that I plan on double checking online if H&M has it in black so I can order it as well. So clearly obsessed!

2

Faux suede skirt: Such a cute little number! I’m not the biggest skirt fan in the world, but I thought this would be a really sweet spring and summer piece that I could easily transition into my fall and winter wardrobe. I really like the cool seam details and the faux suede texture gives it a fun unexpected twist. I’m really excited to pair this with my new embellished blouse, flannels, or just a plain old graphic tee to help dress it up. The deep rusty color of this skirt screams fall to me, so it will be fun to pair this bad boy with knee high socks and a blazer and be on my merry way!

3

Mustard yellow top: Woohoo! I love this shirt!!!! I got this little linen beauty for seven bucks on the clearance rack, and it was the best money I’ve spent in a long time! I love the way that the mustard yellow color pops against my signature red hair, red lip, and pasty pale skin. Seriously, the color is everything I imagined it being AND MORE! I have so many outfit ideas for this simple top already, from pairing it with my tribal print body con skirt to my navy blue Audrey Hepburn-esque trouser pants this top is going to become one of my go to pieces…I can feel it! I have some really gorgeous Lucky Brand wooden jewelry and a stunning turquoise necklace that my brother got me from New Mexico that will go perfectly with this little baby. The possibilities are endless and I can’t wait to explore them all!

As you can see from my fab new purchases it was a very successful trip to Crocker Park! I can’t wait to incorporate all of these new pieces into my looks for many seasons to come! I couldn’t find a pair of shorts that I liked enough to buy yesterday so that’s the last thing I need to complete my spring and summer wardrobe!

I hope all of you are having a terrific weekend! If you know of any stores that sell knee high gladiator sandals OR some really good normal rise shorts please leave me a comment and let’s chat! I’ll be on the prowl for them on my next shopping trip so I’m up for any suggestions! Much love. -Sarah

PS: All of these items should be available for purchase in stores or online at http://www.hm.com! And if you sign up for their email newsletter you’ll receive a twenty percent off of one item coupon! 🙂

OOTD – First Day of School!

OOTD – First Day of School!

I had my first official in school college class today at Tri-C, so I wanted to make sure I had a sharp and smart outfit! I went for a bit of a preppy look today and I was really happy with it. I felt so confident when I strutted my stuff into the classroom this morning! Take a look:

IMG_0891[1]

As usual, here’s the breakdown of the brand of each article of clothing and where it was purchased at:

  • Aztec sweater: Miami, Francesca Collection
  • Coated black jeans: H&M, I bought these jeans about two weeks ago, so if you like them they definitely should still be available for purchasing in store or online. http://www.hm.com/us/
  • Navy pea coat: Rock Steady, ModCloth
  • Tan knee high boots: I.N.C., Macy’s

Like I said, I felt awesome in this outfit – especially because each piece in this OOTD are some of my favorite things that I own. This look was a little more pricey than my usual outfits because I purchased each thing as an investment to have for years to come. I consider everything I wore today very classic and timeless so they were definitely worth the extra moolah spent on them. All together this OOTD probably cost me about $230. That price made me bite my lip a bit, but the amount I wear these pieces together or separate has made the investment so worth it. I’ve also owned these articles for about one and a half to two years each, minus the jeans from H&M. My favorite thing about this outfit is the sweet detailing on all of the pieces. I’m obsessed with the heart elbow patches on my pea coat, the quilted knees of my jeans, the braided decal going up the boot, and you can’t really tell in this picture but there’s silver tinsel-like material crocheted into the sweater. All of these little surprises through out the outfit definitely gives it a little extra oomph. I felt like a college student in this look, therefore I achieved the look that I was going for today! It was a successful OOTD and most importantly – a great first day of school!

What is everyone rockin today? What’s your favorite investment piece you’ve bought? What are pieces you plan on investing in for the future? Leave me a comment and let’s chat! -Sarah

OOTD – Hump Day!

Standard
OOTD – Hump Day!

IMG_0835[1]

My outfit of the day today was fairly simple. But I felt insanely confident in it, which is the most important thing when it comes to dressing yourself. As usual, here’s the breakdown of each article of clothing:

  • Challis pants: H&M (these are brand new, and they ran at roughly $35 for anyone interested in buying them)
  • Flannel: Hollister, but I got it from the Goodwill #bargain
  • Crop top: PacSun, LA Hearts
  • Heels: TJMaxx, Guess

I’m legit so in love with my army green pants it’s ridiculous. They’re so chic, flattering, and SO comfortable. I felt like I was in sweatpants all day, but of course was way more stylish ;). The flannel I wore today was such a good find from the Goodwill. It was the first flannel I ever bought and it remains my favorite one to this day. I thought the little “he loves me he loves me not” crop was so sweet, and it’s the perfect ‘wear under a flannel’ top. And of course, my Guess shoes are my babies! It was such an awesome TJ’s find, and I really liked the two similar but different shades of green in the heels and my pants together – it made for a really cool color block. The colors in my OOTD are some of my favorites, and they all complimented each other so well in each piece of clothing. I’m very fond of black and hunter green together, and the flannel over the crop top really tied the whole look together. I felt amazing strutting my stuff around the mall today when I went with my sister and mom!

So there you have it! My OOTD. What was everyone rockin today? What are some of your favorite color combos for fall? Leave me a comment and let’s chat! -Sarah
