3 Ways Editorial Makeup Is Different From Daily Wear

3 Ways Editorial Makeup Is Different From Daily Wear

When you have a shoot for a magazine, newspaper, or another form of press, you want to look your best. If you’re on a solo shoot, you want to be the star of the show. On the other hand, for a group shoot, you want to coordinate with others but still stand out. Whether you do your makeup or hire help for editorial makeup Chicago Il or elsewhere, you should understand how it differs from your daily routine:

1. The Focus:

Makeup for an editorial shoot should highlight your best features. Whether you have amazing cheekbones or luscious lips, you want to show that off. An editorial makeup artist will know how to highlight those parts of your face while still showing you. There’s no need to use layers of foundation when you already have glowing skin. By focusing on what you have, you will still look natural and put together for your shoot.

2. The Purpose:

Editorial makeup doesn’t always follow the same trends you see online. It sticks to the same few steps that it has used for years because it has a specific purpose. Be it a magazine or another form of press, an editorial shoot usually has one goal: to get you noticed. Odds are, your daily makeup routine is relatively basic. You probably follow the same steps, but for an editorial look, don’t be afraid to do things a little differently.

3. The Artist:

Most people can’t afford a makeup artist for their daily look, so you probably do your makeup yourself. However, for an editorial shoot, you should consider a professional makeup artist. An editorial makeup artist will know what techniques to use to enhance your natural beauty while making you stand out for the shoot. Unless you have a lot of editorial experience, consider hiring someone to help you create the perfect look.

To some people, it might seem that there are few differences between editorial makeup and daily makeup. But the two styles have important distinctions that everyone should understand.

Passing Time In Self-Isolation Pt. 2

Hello! Crazy times, amiright? And, amid all of this craziness, it is so important to keep yourselves safe and healthy. This means limiting your time in public as much as possible. And, you know what? That’s fine by me! I have been having the best time hunkered down with Johnny (my boyfriend) playing Rock Band, watching Band Of Brothers, and indulging in our new obsession of Magic The Gathering. As much as I enjoy an evening at the bar, a quiet evening in is definitely what I prefer.

I had to laugh at a meme that said something like “when you realize your normal lifestyle is considered a quarantine” because that holds quite a bit of accuracy to me! But, if you’re still struggling to find ways to keep yourself occupied, allow me to suggest the following:

Learn Something New:

Sure, you could spend your time in self-isolation binging TV… And, believe you me, I’ve had my fair share of America’s Next Top Model marathons. But, you could also use this time to learn something new. Take a virtual tour of a museum, which is now being offered through a lot of establishments. Try your hand at a new language. Give a craft on Pinterest a shot. You’ll be amazed at where you end up once the self-isolation recommendation has lifted if you chip away at a new skill every day.

Cook A Great Meal:

I am so thankful that I went grocery shopping a week before all of the closings started happening because my pantry is fully stocked. And, since going out for dinner isn’t possible right now, I have enjoyed cooking in my kitchen every day. I love making breakfast over the weekend for my boyfriend and revel in when I can have dinner ready for him when he gets home. It is never not satisfying to me to lay out a meal that I made.

Open up a recipe book and give a few new ones a go, cook an old favorite, or bake and decorate a cake. An afternoon helping mom or dad bake cookies always goes down well for the little ones, too!

Exercise:

Unfortunately, all of the skating rinks in my neck of the woods are closed so I cannot have my weekly skate sesh. This sucks but it also doesn’t mean that I can’t still be active, which is so crucial when you’re stuck at home and being more sedentary. Do some crunches during your TV time or lift some weights. And, although community hangs are frowned upon – going out for a brisk hike or walk around the neighborhood isn’t.

Rearrange/Redecorate:

If you’re beginning to feel the effects of cabin fever, try rearranging your home or the room that you spend the most time in. Switching out knick knacks, changing the position of the couch, or reorganizing your book or movie shelves can breathe a whole new life into a space. And, if you’re on the hunt for something brand new, order online and make sure you love it since you’re going to be seeing a lot of it for a while. 😉

Although things feel scary right now don’t let it get in the way of enjoying yourself as you try out the ideas above!

How has the coronavirus effected you? What have you been doing to stay occupied? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

Passing Time In Self-Isolation

Passing Time In Self-Isolation

Hi everyone! I hope that all of you are managing to stay healthy and safe during this crazy time. I also hope that you’re staying sane after hearing coronavirus related news all day every day because that can be a bit much, too. As more businesses, schools, and gathering places close and events are cancelled, it’s easy to feel trapped. And, if you are practicing self-isolation you might be running out of things to do to keep occupied which just adds to the panic. So, allow me to come in with a few suggestions:

Read A Book:

This is such an obvious idea but you’d be amazed at all of the posts I see on Facebook asking for binge worthy show suggestions as opposed to an un-put-downable book. Crack open that novel you’ve been holding off on reading for ages, sit back, relax, and read. And I mean really read, which means more than just one chapter! A few weeks back, I borrowed Doctor Sleep by Stephen King from the library and am hoping to finish that during my free time.

Work On A Puzzle:

I happen to really enjoy a good jigsaw puzzle and, while everything is so up in the air, it is a great way to kill an afternoon. Although I still have to go to work, I plan on limiting seeing my clients just in their home instead of in the community so I definitely see a lot of puzzles in my future. You are not limited to jigsaw puzzles, though! Try a word search, crossword, jumbles, Sudoku, or Mahjong to fill up some free time.

Binge Watch A Little:

Lol, it would be cruel and unusual to not put this suggestion on the list but try not to go overboard with it. Limit yourself to one to two episodes a day so your brain doesn’t turn into complete mush. That’s not to say you can’t treat yourself to an America’s Next Top Model bingeathon (God knows I have!), but don’t make that the norm while outside activities are so limited.

Spring Clean:

If now isn’t the perfect time to spring clean, then I genuinely don’t know when it would be. Set aside some time during the day to tackle at least one room or area of your home or apartment. Disinfect, dust, sweep, and Swiffer until your place is sparkling. Don’t forget to really clean things like light switches, door knobs, handles, and the toilet flusher!

Games Galore:

While in self-isolation, my boyfriend and I have grown very partial to video games, particularly Rock Band. We have such a blast playing the different songs, talking about music, and honing in on our skill. We both play on hard on the guitar… But I don’t mean to brag. 😉 My beau and I have also been playing Little Big Planet, Unraveled, Mario Party, and Super Smash Bros. to help pass the time. We both highly recommend Unraveled and, although it has long since been beaten, we always enjoy playing it again from time to time.

If video games aren’t your thing, then board or card and computer games work just as well. There are an insane amount of online games to choose from like Galactic Wins Casino (if gambling is something you enjoy), WOW, and Bubble Pop; the list just goes on. I just wish that Rollercoaster Tycoon was still a thing on the computer! Classic computer games like pinball, checkers, and solitaire are also great ways to kill time and are perfect for a less intense gaming experience. I love playing solitaire and it’s so easy to keep playing once you’re on a winning streak!

Indeed, computer games are always being added and improved and it can be hard to keep up – especially if you enjoy playing a lot of different ones! If you are looking for a leg up in a new game or one you are struggling with, you can buy accounts to immediately get you into the swing of the game. For example, you could enter a search for “Clash Royale Account for sale” or whatever game you are interested in to browse your options. This could also be a lucrative side hustle if you have several excellent gaming accounts that you are willing to part with.

I, myself, really enjoy Scrabble and Sequence and I never say no to a good game of Monopoly. One of my clients enjoys playing Poker and I have gotten pretty into that, too. Games are such a fun way to pass the time and reconnect since going out to dinner is not an option right now.

From the ideas above to cooking an amazing meal or even starting a blog, I hope these suggestions come in handy when you feel the boredom of self-isolation sinking in. Enjoy!

How have you been spending your free time amid the coronavirus panic? What is a book, movie, show, or game suggestion that you recommend? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

Groovy Movies: Five Below Edition

Groovy Movies: Five Below Edition

Hello! I am an avid movie lover and my favorite date nights with my boyfriend are when we go out to see something in theaters. But, I also love movie nights in where we throw on a DVD or a Netflix original. So, needless to say, discount DVD bins are my weakness! If I find a movie that I like for five bucks or under, I almost always buy it. I consider an evening of entertainment well worth the purchase, which justified snagging these two flicks during a trip to Five Below with a client:

5

I was so tickled to find Elf and The Theory Of Everything at Five Below because Elf is my absolute favorite Christmas movies and The Theory Of Everything is one of my favorite movies in general. Every year for Christmas, my family ends up watching Elf one time at the very least and, now that I’m moved out, I no longer have my own copy. Son of a nutcracker! So, obviously, I needed this to bring me some holiday cheer for Christmas In July and many Christmases to come.

If you have seen The Theory Of Everything, then I am sure you can understand why I needed to purchase it. Eddie Redmayne as Stephen Hawking was easily one of the best performances of the decade and I was completely mesmerized the first time I saw it. And I still am. And I never won’t be.

2014 was an excellent year for films because it gave me two of my favorite movies: The Theory Of Everything and The Imitation Game starring the incomparable Benedict Cumberbatch as mathematician, Alan Turing. The Imitation Game is an amazing true story and definitely the next one on my “must buy” list!

What is your favorite movie? Who are your favorite movie stars? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

Blart Side Of The Mall

Blart Side Of The Mall

Hi! Once upon a time, I was SO close to falling asleep when my boyfriend shook me out of my tired haze to inform me of something he deemed highly important. So, can you imagine my annoyance when he told me that Paul Blart Mall Cop 2 syncs up perfectly to Pink Floyd’s album “Dark Side Of The Moon”?! Then, he showed me an example clip in the style of Wizard Of Oz syncing up to the album but with Paul Blart and my annoyance dissipated immediately:

^^^ And, as always, I have no rights to these songs or videos!

If you watched any of the example clip, you will see that the legend is true and Paul Blart Mall Cop 2 and Dark Side Of The Moon go together like peanut butter and jelly. Within a week, my boyfriend and I watched the album synced up to the movie in its entirety and I don’t think I have ever laughed so hard in my life. In fact, I spent half of the time wiping the tears from my eyes from the constant laugh attack that the experience gave me.

So, I have decided to share the wealth. Not only am I informing all of you that it’s hilarious but I am also sharing this discovery with the vinyl record club that I take one of my clients to. As luck would have it, I found a Mall Cop collection in the discount DVD bin at Walmart for three dollars and seventy-four cents (lol) and I realized that this had to be my choice for when I bring in my album.

Is it stupid? Abso-freaking-lutely. Is it one of my favorite things in the world? Abso-freaking-lutely. I am so excited to introduce my friends at record club to this spectacle and, even if no one appreciates it as much as I do, at least they get to hear Dark Side Of The Moon, right? 😉

What other movies does Dark Side Of The Moon sync up to? What is something stupid that you find hilarious? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

Five Rules For The Perfect Game Night

Standard
Five Rules For The Perfect Game Night

If there is one thing that you should be doing at least once a month, it’s hosting a game night. You can switch off with your friends so that you all take turns, but you have to host at least once every single month so that you can enjoy an evening with your friends on your terms. Some people like to make game night an evening thing, with a game of cards and takeout. Others like to make games night one of board game and chips ‘n’ dip.

No matter how you do it, game night needs to be something you’re all going to enjoy and you need to plan it to perfection for that to happen. Game night is all about your friendships, laughter, camaraderie, and total enjoyment of each other’s company. If it’s your turn to host game night, try adhering to the following rules:

Enough Space:

The first thing that you need for game night to go smoothly is the right space. You need enough room for all of you to sit down and if you want to have Pictionary, you need room to be able to get up and draw! Charades requires some moving space, so clear the floor of a room and throw around some beanbags for seating.

Games:

Games night requires games. Break out the board games, pens, and paper for writing things down and a good Word Unscrambler. You need to be able to choose five or six games to play with friends to make your night a successful one.

Snacks & Drinks:

Whether you decide to have your game night outside or inside, you need food and drinks to keep the night flowing. You can choose to make a meal for people to pick at, like a vat of chili and a basket of hot dogs to add, or you can go with the chips ‘n’ dip route. It’s entirely up to you which way you do it. Add drinks – cold and hot, soft and alcoholic – it’s good to have options!

Music:

You need a good playlist for music in the background. You should consider a karaoke machine for when things get a little silly later in the night. You need to think about ensuring that the playlist is a palatable one for all, and keep it low for background music and not blasting through the night.

Prizes:

Not many people do this for game night, but that doesn’t mean that you can’t! You need to think about offering a prize pot for your winners, and you can make it cheap. You can put together prizes from the local dollar stores or you can have a prize pot of cash for the overall winner of the night. If everyone puts in ten dollars, you could have a great prize pot at the end of the night.

Games night: It comes with rules and it’s going to be great!

Walmart Entertainment Haul

Walmart Entertainment Haul

Hellooo everyone! As we all know, Lil Red absolutely cannot refuse the five dollar movie section in any store I go to. I am a huge lover of having DVDs readily available to pop in during a night at home and if I am entertained for the evening, then I consider it money well spent. During an outing with a client at Walmart, I ended up doing some shopping myself and wound up with the following flicks as well as a game that I have been holding off on purchasing. Take a look:

haul2

One of my client’s families introduced me to the game Sequence last year and it is so much fun to play. Part luck and part strategy, you basically have to draw cards and place a chip on the card’s spot on the board. Like Bingo, you need five chips in a row to score a point. Sequence is a wonderful game to play as a team or one on one and I am looking forward to bringing it to the next game night I go to!

Now, for the movies:

Jigsaw: I needed to add this one to my collection since I already have Saw one through seven. Was it the best? No. But I’ll definitely watch it again.

Spy: I never say no to anything Melissa McCarthy and was so happy to find Spy way marked down because it is one of my favorites!

Moonlight: This movie was a must for me because I have never seen it and have heard nothing but amazing things. I also loved Mahershala Ali in Green Book and am eager to see him in what I heard was another outstanding performance.

Paul Blart Mall Cop 1 & 2: Lol, I know, I know. BUT, in case you guys weren’t aware, there is a little thing called “Blart Side Of The Mall” where Paul Blart 2 is synced up to Pink Floyd’s album, “Dark Side Of The Moon”, and it is absolutely hilarious. My boyfriend and I split a gut laughing to it and I am so excited to watch it again!

Baby Driver: I’ve been meaning to buy this movie for a while because it has a fantastic soundtrack that I know my boyfriend will appreciate. It was also so cool to see so many motions by the actor’s synced up to each song. Action packed, all star cast, and Ansel Elgort couldn’t be any easier on the eyes if he tried. 😉

I am so pleased with my Walmart haul and can’t wait for my next movie night in!

What is on your must watch list? What other movies sync up well to Dark Side Of The Moon? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

Groovy Movies: 1917 Edition

Standard
Groovy Movies: 1917 Edition

Hi! I have always loved going to the movies. To me, there is nothing better than catching a flick on the big screen with your family, SO, or by yourself. And, other than everything, my favorite part of having a boyfriend is having someone to go on movie dates with! Johnny and I have fairly different tastes in movies. While we both never say no to a comedy or horror picture, he is a history buff and loves war movies while I am a huge fan of thrillers and foreign films.

This contrast works out nicely because it exposes us both to movies we might not have watched before. I have seen more than my fair share of war movies now, which was normally not my cup of tea. However, I find myself enjoying them despite the intense anxiety I feel throughout each one!

This past week, we went on a date to see 1917 thanks to a Fandango gift card from my brother and it was just fantastic. So, without giving any spoilers away, let’s discuss:

^^^ And, as always, I have no rights to this video.

1917 tells the tale of two British Lance Corporals, Schofield and Blake, who must cross into enemy territory to deliver an urgent message during World War I. This message would call off an attack that would ultimately put the British soldiers into a trap by the Germans. If successful, the two corporals on a race against time could save up to 1,600 of their troops – including Blake’s brother.

From beginning to end, 1917 created a sense of tension that could be cut with a knife. It was filmed as one continuous shot, which really made you feel like you were on this quest with the soldiers. And, because it was one continuous shot, having a less tense “break” during the film was impossible. There was constant movement as the men pushed forward into enemy lines, which left me holding my breath for booby traps the entire time.

I liked how the plot of 1917 was simple. It was a journey set to the pace of a race and it made me so committed to the main characters because all I wanted was for them to make it safely. Running at just under two hours, I was exhausted by the end of the film from all of the emotional blows. Surprise attacks, devastating losses, and the potential for saving so many lives kept me on the edge of my seat bracing myself for the next metaphorical punch in the gut.

Not only was the film shot brilliantly (It almost made me feel like I was in a first person shooter game.), but the actors were sublime. I never once stopped rooting for Schofield and Blake and surprise cameos by Colin Firth and Benedict Cumberbatch made the viewing even more exciting by putting familiar faces into the mix. No part was unimportant which made each scene powerful, especially when it showcased the brotherhood amongst the soldiers.

I would highly recommend 1917 and easily grant it the coveted ten out of ten stars. Because this film was more of a journey than intense battle sequences the whole time, it is sure to be a hit – even with those who don’t care for war movies. I absolutely loved it and the Golden Globe for Best Picture and Best Director don’t lie!

What were your thoughts on 1917? What is your favorite war movie? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

Wow Them With Your Wedding Favors

Wow Them With Your Wedding Favors

Planning your wedding gives you the perfect opportunity to create an exciting and personal event. When you’re choosing the venue, flowers, entertainment, and favors, for example, you’ll want each element to represent you and your new spouse.

With so many things to consider in the lead up to the big day, it’s easy to forget about some details. However, it can be the smaller things that really make an impression on your guests. Wedding favors are a great way to show your appreciation to your guests and to give them something that will remind them of the day in the future.

While some people stick to tried and tested favors, there are plenty of other options available. If you want to do something different on your special day, take a look at these top ideas for creative and original wedding favors:

Donuts:

Everyone loves a sweet treat, so donuts are always a crowd-pleaser. With frosting to match your decor or personalized icing, you can commemorate your day with a fun, edible snack. As many people travel a long distance to attend weddings, they’ll be thrilled with something they can tuck into the next morning, especially if they’ve got a sore head from partying a little too hard!

Seeds:

Giving guests a packet of seeds to take home is a stunningly simple idea yet one that’s memorable and personal. Choose something that’s easy to grow, so that even your guests who aren’t experienced gardeners can watch their plants thrive. Similarly, choosing something which can flourish in a pot will ensure guests who live in apartments or who don’t have gardens can take part in the fun too. You can even request that guests send you a quick snap of their shrubs or flowers on your anniversary and enjoy the fact that your guests have a forever reminder of your happy day.

Candy:

Choosing candy as your wedding favor can be a great way to impress your guests. With personalized candy wrappers, you can create a gift that will keep you in their minds. As candies stay fresh for far longer than most other sweet treats, you know that guests will be enjoying them for a long time to come. What’s more, candy is easy to transport and won’t take up too much space, which is great for those who traveled to your wedding.

So cute!

Flowers:

If you’re using flowers to decorate your wedding venue, why not use them as wedding favors too? Giving guests a small vase or a miniature pail and inviting them to help themselves to the centerpieces is the perfect way to combine a gift they can cherish forever and a special memento from your big day.

With the right favors, you can commemorate your special day and show your guests just how much you appreciate their support. While the options are endless, you’ll find a variety of personalized and meaningful favors to suit any budget and any style of wedding.
