Make Your Bedroom Stylish and Sleep-Friendly

Hiiii everyone and welcome to a guest post by my favorite home decor guru, Chloe! Miss Chloe has been featured on my page quite a few times and it is always such a treat to have her. Take a look at her latest post, where she will help you create a perfectly styled and sleep worthy bedroom:

Make Your Bedroom Stylish and Sleep-Friendly:

The quality of your sleep can highly influence your energy levels, mood, and productivity during the day. In that respect, the way you decorate and organize your sleep chamber can be of immense importance when it comes to providing yourself with a good night of rest. If you’re experiencing trouble sleeping, make sure to take a good look at your bedroom. Its design may be the key for your perfect comfort.

1. Is there a lot of clutter?

There has been plenty of research on the negative influence of clutter on the human mind and this can be especially obvious in the bedroom. This is a place where you need to relax and drift off to a dream land and clutter can only cause problems. The first and easiest thing that you can do is to create a chore list so that you can keep your bedroom neat and tidy. That way, you will prevent mental pressure and stress caused by your own personal environment.

style1

Also, is there a cat?

2. Do you have enough space?

This step is linked to the clutter issue. Sometimes, it’s not enough to simply tidy up your bedroom. If you don’t have room for all of your stuff, the first thing that you should do is declutter. This means that apart from putting everything in its respective place, you should also get rid of things that you don’t need.

If you have clothes that you haven’t worn for more than six months, it’s probably wise to give them away. On the other hand, your problem might be related to the lack of storage. Make sure to utilize your wardrobe doors to the fullest. Wall cabinets can really come in handy in a bedroom as well as a chest of drawers. Chests of drawers are not only functional for clothing storage but housing decor like photographs, reed diffusers, and jewelry boxes. You can search Bespoke Furniture for storage inspiration to keep your bedroom clutter free and stylish with statement pieces.

^ I would love a hanging rack like this!

3. Do you enjoy the color scheme?

You may not even be aware of just how much the choice of colors can influence your ability to relax and fall asleep. In general, you should introduce colors that feel pleasant to you into your bedroom. But, this doesn’t mean that you should go overboard with vibrant shades and intricate patterns.

A stylish and functional bedroom should feature soothing tones and hues. You should also keep things relatively minimal when color combos are concerned. The best way to achieve a nice, calming look is to opt for a soft wall shade, an equally soft, warm shade for furniture, and then spice things up just a little with slightly bolder colors for sheets, covers, and cushions.

style3

4. Do you feel comfortable?

The appearance of your bedroom is not the only thing that has effect on your sleep. There are also some technical questions that need to be dealt with. For example, if your lighting is too bright and strong, you will struggle more to relax and drift off to sleep. This is especially true for those of you who like to read or check your smartphones in bed.

Make sure to use mood lighting and, if possible, install dimmer switches. Air quality is another essential factor ensuring you a proper sleep schedule. If dust bothers you or you suffer from seasonal allergies, you should install a quality air purifier for allergies in your bedroom. Not only will this improve your sleep but the quality of your lifestyle altogether, too.

style4

Pretty!

5. Is the decor pleasing?

The bedroom is the most intimate area of one’s home but that doesn’t mean that you should overload it with personal decor and other sentimental bits and pieces. On the contrary, it is said that you should avoid using photographs of your friends and family and go for soothing scenery paintings, instead. A scented candle, plants, warm rugs, and interesting curtains are perfectly fine, but anything more than that can actually disrupt your sleep schedule and prevent you from dozing off properly.

style5

Also pretty!

Remember, you don’t need too much stuff or color for your bedroom to be stylish and cozy. By keeping things relatively minimal yet sticking to your personal taste, you’ll be able to enjoy a good night of rest and wake up motivated for a new day, every day.

^^^ Thank you again for such a wonderful post, Chloe girl! How does your bedroom reflect your personality? What is a funny or weird item that you keep in your room? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

4 Ingredients Of A Comfy Home

4 Ingredients Of A Comfy Home

No matter what kind of home you live in or where, one of the essentials that everyone can agree on is that being comfortable is one of the most important things of all. The home, after all, should be a place where you can relax and unwind and you can only properly do that if it is comfortable for everyone who lives there. Achieving this kind of comfort, however, can often be surprisingly difficult to do – but with a little focus and some understanding of what is important, it is probably easier than you think. In this article, we are going to look at four of the main ingredients that you need for a comfier home:

Furniture: The furniture that you choose to have, particularly in any family or communal areas, is hugely important in keeping the home as comfortable as possible. It is definitely worth spending a good amount of time trying to find the best furniture possible. You might be surprised at how many considerations there are when it comes to choosing furniture. In general, you need to find items which are comfortable enough for everyone to rest in, but not so soft that they swallow you up. You also need to think carefully about their placement around the home. Placement affects the overall feeling of the home greatly, so take care on this front.

Your furniture should last you a long time if you take good care of it. Keep up to date on cleaning, dusting, and polishing and try to avoid eating or drinking on couches and armchairs. If you favor a leather armchair, consider an all-in-one leather care cream and it will continue to look as good as the day you brought it home!

Temperature: There is nothing worse than not being able to control the temperature in your home. It goes without saying that you want the ability to ensure that you are warm in the winter and cool in the summer – but even today, surprisingly few homes offer this ability. If you are keen to introduce this into your home in a big way, then using something like fujitsu heat pumps might be the best solution for you. With heat pumps, you can ensure that your home is just the right temperature at all times – something which is very important in keeping cozy at any time of year.

Light: Although it is not often considered in this respect, light does have a part to play in keeping you comfortable in your own home. If the light levels are too much or too little, it can lead to a feeling of restlessness – and that is not what you want when you are trying to relax in your home in the evening. Make sure that you are able to control the lighting in your home as much as possible. The best solution here is probably to use dimmer switches, as these give you the fullest possible control out of anything else on the market.

comfy1

One single bulb is not the best bet, though!

Space: Just as important, of course, is how the space is set out in your home. You need enough space to be able to have personal space around everybody, but you don’t want so much that the home no longer feels inviting or cozy. Achieving this balance is difficult and takes some time, but it is well worth it once you find it.

Love that staircase!

Functionality And Flair: Stylish, Practical Decor Tips

Standard

Have you ever trawled through endless photos of stunning interiors only to be left wondering how on earth people live in such places? It’s all very well designing a beautiful house, but it also has to fulfill a role as a home. You want to fall in love with the look of your home, but you also need it to deliver on a practical level. There’s no point in going all-out with the decor if your home is completely impractical for your lifestyle. If you’re planning a revamp, here are some tips to help you create functional spaces with plenty of flair:

Playing With The Layout: The layout of your home is really important, especially if you have a family or you live with friends or relatives. Modern families tend to prefer open spaces, as they enable you to interact with each other more easily than a series of separate rooms. However, if you live alone or you work from home, you may prefer distinctive zones. Play around with the layout to suit your needs. If you don’t want to knock walls down, you can use furniture or different decor themes to divide up rooms for different purposes. You can also organize your furniture in a way that opens up the room. If you’re short on space, for example, move sofas to the back of the room or invest in an L-shaped couch and place it in the corner. By doing this, you’ll create more space in the middle of the room.

Love the paintings!

Saving Space: If you have a small house, you don’t have to live with clutter. There are some amazing storage solutions out there, which enable you to secrete your stuff in a stylish manner. You can buy furniture, such as designer sideboards, which serve multiple purposes. A sideboard can not only act as a beautiful focal point for your room but it can also provide valuable storage and a surface to display photographs or ornaments. If you’re tight on floor space, take advantage of your walls. You can hang floating shelves or buy a wall-mounted unit to increase storage.

Keeping Things Casual: If you lead a busy lifestyle, the last thing you want is to spend your free time straightening cushions and making sure that your house looks like a show home. Keeping things casual and relaxed creates a homely vibe and it’ll save you time and stress. If you’re looking for design tips, the Scandinavian approach to interior design should give you some inspiration, and you’ll find a wealth of images online. Focus on comfort, rather than perfection, and embrace that slightly disheveled, lived-in look.

If you have an interest in interior design, you may be trying to find the perfect blend between functionality and flair. On the one hand, you want your home to look fabulous, but on the other hand, it needs to fit in with your lifestyle. Hopefully, this guide has given you some ideas, and you’re ready to create a gorgeous home that works for you. A home that embraces your personality as well as the needs of yourself and family.

How To: Creating A Garden Indoors

How To: Creating A Garden Indoors

If you live in a city, green spaces can be hard to find. The noise and pollution that is part of our day to day life shouldn’t follow us home. Our homes should be a place of rest and recuperation. At home we should be able to let go of the stresses of the day and enjoy some healthy and happy quiet time. With all this in mind, it makes sense to have a garden in our homes! There are so many benefits to having plants and nature-inspired items in our house, and it can be so easy to create an indoor garden. Keep reading for some inspiration…

garden3

Pretty!!!

What Are The Benefits? It may sound like an eccentric concept, but creating a garden indoors actually has lots of benefits. Living in close proximity to plants and flowers can help us to feel more at ease with our surroundings, less anxious, and more relaxed. Plants also add something interesting and stimulating to look at and care for in our homes. These factors all contribute to our overall well being and can make us happier and less stressed. There is even some evidence to suggest that plants can create an improved learning environment.

One of the other benefits of having plants indoors is that they help with breathing and purifying the air. Plants release oxygen during photosynthesis, which increases oxygen levels in the home. The process of photosynthesis also produces moisture vapor. This is good news as the humidity in the air increases, meaning less dry skin, colds, and sore throats.

How to Create an Indoor Garden: Creating a garden indoors is no mean feat. You’ll have to invest time and money into your project, but the results will be well worth it. It is possible to grow plants indoors with LED grow lights. LumiGrowth has a great guide to the best lights to buy and how to use them. Once you’re set up and growing plants indoors, you can move on to the other garden features.

Most gardens contain some kind of pathway, decking, or patio. Bring some stone into your home to give the feeling of a garden path. Statement walls are a great place to incorporate stone or around a fireplace if you have one. For a cheaper alternative, buy some stone statues or ornaments to place around your home. You can even place some smooth stones around your house as a quirky accessory. For a more practical approach, use smooth stones as doorstops instead.

Another key aspect of a garden is well tended grass. Now I’m not suggesting you bring grass indoors, but use the color green where you can to add some bursts of nature. You don’t have to take this too literally either. Rather than painting the walls green, create a little herb garden in the kitchen. Simply line up fresh herbs in pots on a windowsill and watch them grow! They will help you create an indoor garden, and will make an awesome addition to your meals!

Elegance Meets Minimalism – Scandinavian Inspired Interior Design

Hi everyone and TGIF! Today, I have a special guest post written by the queen of home decor, Chloe, for all of us. Miss Chloe has been featured on lifewithlilred quite a few times before so let’s give her a warm welcome back and get to it:

Elegance Meets Minimalism – Scandinavian Inspired Interior Design

What better way to introduce some chic minimalism into your own home than taking inspiration from Scandinavian interior design trends? An elegant, clutter-free yet unique and cozy home can be easily achieved with some tweaks here and there. It’s important that you adopt a minimalist way of thinking, so that the Scandi style can truly enrich your personal environment. If you’re not sure how to go about these intricate design changes, keep on reading:

1. White As Snow

scan1.jpg

Love that chair!

Clean white walls and floors are one of the main features of minimalist Scandinavian style. The brightness and pureness of white perfectly resembles Scandinavian’s cool and chic atmosphere. What’s more, white makes any space look visually bigger, which creates a perfect canvas for your furniture and pieces of room decor.

Of course, you can introduce other colors through accessories, but make sure that they too fuse the natural vibe of Scandinavian style into a livable space.

scan2.jpg

 Coolness in the kitchen

2. Sleek Lighting

You have several options when it comes to proper lighting solutions that will only accentuate the elegance of your interior. You can opt for statement chandeliers with sleek lines yet bold forms. On the other hand, you can also play with several ceiling lamps in smaller sizes that can change the look of your room depending on their position. When it comes to Scandinavian-inspired interior design, it’s essential that you make the most out of natural sunlight. But, since artificial light is still a must, try to opt for bright white bulbs that don’t put strain on the eyes.

scan3.png

Tres Chic

3. Go Easy On Decor

The minimalist approach suggests a complete absence of clutter. Still, this doesn’t mean that your home should look plain or lack personality. In order to add a touch of elegance, go for contemporary modern details such as metallic frames, fruit bowls, plant pots, and candles. Of course, you can add your own twist to these accessories and play with more white, or opt for matching wooden frames, bowls, pots, and furniture.

scan4

Minimalist with a twist

Since Scandi style is all about natural minimalism, you can also introduce stone as one of the accent materials for your accessories. When it comes to wall decor, it’s recommended that you keep things as simple as possible. Some people enjoy leaving their walls completely bare, but you can also add some extra texture and warmth with inspiring pieces of art that match the overall theme. The best way to tone down the coolness of such an environment is definitely the use of rugs and cushions, and these can act as a perfect pop of color. Still, make sure that the hues are not too bold and vibrant.

scan5.jpg

Accessorize those walls

4. Functional Furniture & Layout

The elegance and minimalism of Scandinavian style are not only for the show. As you invest your time in redesigning your home, you should keep in mind both the form and functionality of your furniture. Depending on the room’s size, you can efficiently choose the pieces of furniture that you get a lot of use from.

scan6.jpg

Sharp lines and neutral hues

Clean lines yet bold forms make for a perfect combo when it comes to fusing elegance and minimalism, since the furniture will act as an accessory on its own without losing its functionality. You shouldn’t sacrifice your comfort – quite the opposite. Therefore, it’s recommended that you rearrange your sofas, chairs, tables, and other odds and ends so that you have complete freedom of movement. Of course, you don’t have to stick with an ordinary layout. As long as you feel cozy, you can play with different positions until you find the most artistic yet pleasant arrangement.

5. Don’t Overlook Anything

True elegance means perfect harmony. In that respect, you shouldn’t neglect any area of your home. Usually, people put most of their efforts into the decor and design of their kitchen, living room, and bedroom, yet lose the interest when it comes to hallways and bathrooms. This is one of the biggest mistakes that you can make if you really value a minimal approach and Scandinavian-inspired style.

scan7.jpg

TEDDY!!

Hallways can be transformed into cozy entrance areas with the help of greenery and warm rugs. On the other hand, perfect designer bathrooms can be achieved with white tiles, minimalist product arrangement, and some plants. A big sleek mirror would look great in both small and big bathrooms, as well. If you plan to invest more of your time and money in this intimate area of your home, stand-alone tubs will make a great final touch to your elegantly minimal design.

Before you start any major work, make sure to get rid of the clutter first. Go through everything you own and assess just how often you use or wear something. Do you enjoy all of your accessories and do they all really make an important part of your decor? Once the unnecessary things are out of the way, you’ll find it a lot easier to introduce Scandinavian design style fused with your individuality.

^^^ Thank you so much to Chloe for teaching us all about the minimalist chic Scandinavian home decor style! It’s always a pleasure to have you on lifewithlilred. Is your home decor style minimalist or eclectic? Do you prefer neutral hues or bold and bright colors? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

Give Your Bathroom Some Sparkle

Standard
Give Your Bathroom Some Sparkle

When you have a big family, the house can tend to get messy, over-run and the household chores can seem like a never ending list which just gets bigger and bigger with every hour. The bathroom is one of the most used and frequented rooms in a house, with everyone using the toilet, needing to shower or take a bath, and clean their teeth in the morning and night. A Sunday evening can be a frantic time in the bathroom. The children need to be washed before school starts on Monday, parents want to either take a quick shower or relax in the bath before the work week begins again – and this can leave the bathroom is disarray and needing some desperate TLC.

If your bathroom could do with some touch ups, a little tidy up, or a makeover, there is no need to break the bank by purchasing expensive additions. In the end, these will get used just as much and you may find yourself buying the same expensive product or additions time and time again. There are measures that you can take to ensure that your bathroom looks and feels welcoming and tidy by simply taking the time to put energy into it, doing your shopping in different places, and researching.

When it comes to the toilet, a supermarket brand bathroom cleaner (preferably anti-bacterial) will do the job just the same as bigger, more expensive brand names. If it’s a spray product, all you have to do is squirt it a few times over and into the rim and over the toilet seat. Then wait 30 seconds and wipe clean with some paper towel. You should also ensure that the toilet flush handle is sprayed, too, as this can be a breeding ground for bacteria.

Always, after spraying, put some bleach (again, supermarket brand but ensure it is thick bleach) down the toilet to eliminate germs. If you have a problem with your toilet, and it tends to cause blockages, then ask friends for advice first – the chances are they will say, “I know a good plumber near me who can sort that for you,” and you may even get a discount after being referred by a friend.

If your bathroom needs a bit of a revamp, visit discount shops and invest in bright fake flowers, candle holders, tealights, or even some quirky, funny prints that you can frame and put on the walls. Instead of buying expensive odor eliminators, simply leave the window open for a few hours every day, when you’re in the house, of course!

When it comes to the bath, limescale and dirt can build up quickly. Try running hot water and leave it in the bath for 10 minutes, without any cold water added to it. Once the water is released, use a limescale cream and rub it over the bath. Then leave it on for 10-15 minutes and wipe clean with a clean rag or paper towel and watch that bathtub sparkle!

Tips To Make Your First Night In Your New House Great

Tips To Make Your First Night In Your New House Great

Your first night in your new home can range from exciting to anxiety provoking and everything in between. But, really, it should be a time to be proud of yourself for making the next big step in your life, so try and relax and have some fun with these tips:

Make A First Night Box: It’s important to make sure that you have a box that you can unpack first to make sure that your first night in your new home isn’t too much of a shock to your system. Make sure that you have all of the essentials in there for each member of your family. First of all, make sure that you all have basic toiletries like toilet paper, toothpaste, toothbrushes, body wash, deodorant, shampoo, and feminine hygiene products. You might also need some wet wipes and tissues. For the kitchen you’ll need paper towels along with paper plates, disposable cutlery, and trash bags for your waste. You’ll also need to make sure that you have sheets and blankets so you can get a good night’s sleep – and don’t forget your PJs!

Don’t Worry About Cooking: On your first night in a new place, there’s nothing that you will love more than takeout. Even if you’ve packed sandwiches you’ll be delighted if you also get a warm, delicious meal – so make sure that you have some takeout menus for your new area with you. Whether you get pizza or Chinese food (yum and yum!), just make sure that there’s some decent nutritional content and that it’ll fill you up and prepare you for the tasks of the next few days.

tips1.png

Mmmmm!

Set Up A Relaxing Area: Moving and unpacking is a really exhausting thing to do so you’ll need to make sure that you have an area where you can relax, whether that’s your bed or your couch. You probably don’t have the internet set up yet but you can always download TV shows to watch in preparation before you actually move, and you can focus on getting your TV set up quickly. If it’s winter, make sure that you have plenty of blankets so you can stay warm, and that you fully understand how to work the heating in your new place. The best moving companies will help you prioritize your move so that you know what you need to unpack on the first night to ensure that everyone is comfortable.

tips2.png

DOG! ❤

Make Sure You Can Shower: Let’s face it: moving house is a sweaty, grimy business and you might just end up covered in dust, so it’s important for you to be able to shower. First and foremost, don’t move until you actually have a functioning bathroom (if not, let’s hope you have plenty of bottled water, baby wipes, and deodorant!). Secondly, make sure that you have towels to dry off with, as well as a set of clean clothes that’s easily accessible.

tips3.png

Reassure Your Kids: Moving house can be disconcerting and upsetting for kids so it’s important that you keep them informed over the course of moving. Let them know what your new area is like and ask them for ideas about how they want to decorate their new rooms. When you’re in your new house, prioritize their spaces: make sure that their rooms are clean and that they have a comfortable, cozy place to sleep. Make sure they have their nightlight on and that they know where to find you in the night if they get scared or confused.

Stamp Your Personality On Your Home With These Quick Fixes

Standard
Stamp Your Personality On Your Home With These Quick Fixes

Homeowners are keen to turn a new house into their family home pretty much as soon as they move in. Even though they can be excited to start redesigning a new property, life can often get in the way and ends up slowing down this whole makeover. But don’t worry if you start to lose time to fix up your new house – there is plenty that you can do to stamp your own personality into a house no matter how long you have been living in it! Here are some super easy and quick fixes that can help you personalize your own home:

Use Plenty of Color: Homes in which the predominant colors are whites and creams are often regarded as quite austere and sterile. That is certainly not what you want to aim for if you want a home that pops with your personality! So be sure to use plenty of color in your rooms. You can go bold and paint your walls with bright colors. Sound a bit too intense for your tastes? Instead, opt for neutral shades on your walls but add bright accessories for bursts of color. You’ll find lots of colorful accessories by looking at sites like the Versace Home decor and furniture website.

Share Your Memories: No one will have the exact same memories as you do, so one great way to splash your personality all over your home is to share all your memories. There are various ways you can do this. For example, you could hang photos from all of your adventures abroad in your living room. You might even like the idea of collecting all your trinkets and souvenirs from around the world together and showcasing them in a display cabinet. Displaying family photos is also a great way to show off your fantastic memories, especially if your kids are no longer babies. Nothing beats cute baby pics!

Show Off Your Hobbies: No matter what your hobby may be, there will certainly be ways of incorporating it into your interior design. For example, if you have an artistic side, you might like to create your own artworks to hang on your walls. If you love watching the birds in your garden, you could think about taking some photographs to hang on your walls. Love sports? Then why not buy some decorative sports equipment to display in your home. For instance, a vintage tennis racquet or a cricket bat will look very stylish propped up in your hall with smart lighting around it.

Get Your Kids To Help: I’m sure your kids will love having their pictures and drawings stuck onto the doors of your fridge. But why not spread them out around the house? You can frame the best ones and display them in your living and dining rooms. There are also some companies who will take a drawing that your child has done and print it onto a cushion cover. That will be a super cute touch to any living room!

Make boring and blah a thing of the past and add a touch of fun into your home with these tips.

Feel The Rainbow: The Importance Of Color In The Home

Feel The Rainbow: The Importance Of Color In The Home

Decorating the home is an exciting time. You get to turn a new leaf on the parts of the home that you don’t like. And, with the bits you do like, you can refresh them and make them look new again. But, despite most people’s love for beautiful rooms, most struggle to find colors that suit their space and style. This means that loads of people end up with rooms that they don’t like, even after redecorating. So, to help you out, this post will be going through the importance of color in the home and how you should go about choosing them.

Room Size: Color can have a great impact on a room. It can change the feel, mood, and even the size of a room. And, size is something that you have to consider. Some rooms feel far too big, even when they’re filled with furniture. Whereas, some rooms feel tiny, with no room at all. This needs to be a consideration. Different colors can have different effects on how we perceive the size of a room. For example, a small room would benefit from lighter colors, which make it feel more open. But, huge rooms are better with darker shades, to make them feel a little cozier. Of course, you’re not actually changing the size of the room. Color can just have the effect of doing so. Dark colors absorb more light than lighter ones, which reflect it. This makes a room darker, making it feel smaller. When a room is lighter, it feels more open and large.

Boring, Interesting, or Ugly! Once you’ve figured out the shade you’d like for your room, you have to figure out a balance. It’s easy to have too little color in a room, making it look boring. Likewise, you can also have too much going on, making the room look ugly. But, you want the house to be interesting – somewhere right in the middle. Doing this can be hard. So, it’s usually best to get the help of a professional. Having a painter give you their opinion on the room ideas you have is a great way to start. They see loads of rooms and they know what looks good. They will also be able to help you to complete the job. And, using a professional for painting will almost always have a better result.

rainbow1.jpg

Ladders are scary! :((

Choosing Well: Choosing the colors for your home is completely down to you but rooms shouldn’t have more than one vibrant color as a rule of thumb. Neutral colors can be played with a little more. But, it’s usually best to be conservative with what you choose. Use guides online to choose colors that fit with moods. For example, if you wanted a relaxing room, you could choose yellow as the main color. This sort of method will always see that you choose something that you love.

Hopefully, this will inspire you to start making changes when it comes to the decor in your home. It can be hard to make decisions like this. It takes a lot of work, and you have to be confident in your choices before you start the job. But, once it’s all done, you’ll feel much happier in your home!

Wait! Try These Tricks Before Throwing Out Tired Furniture

Wait! Try These Tricks Before Throwing Out Tired Furniture

Furniture can only last so long before it starts to look a little tired. Your immediate thought might be that you need to get rid of a piece of furniture that’s going downhill. However, if it’s something that you love, you don’t need to say goodbye to it just yet. There are some easy things that you can do to rescue your furniture and avoid having to throw it out. Some things you can do yourself or you could get a professional to help you out. Before you throw out that sofa or cabinet, here’s what you could do to save it:

Start By Giving It a Clean: The first thing you should do with a tired piece of furniture is to clean it. You could be amazed by how much of a difference it makes. Furniture made from wood, metal, or plastic can be very easy to clean. You only need to dust or wipe it down, perhaps with some soapy water or special cleaning solution. But upholstered fabric can be a little trickier to get clean. Some pieces have removable covers that you can put in your washing machine. You might also want to consider an upholstery steam cleaner, which will make it easier to get the fabric clean.

Reupholster Fabric Furniture: Some upholstered furniture might still look rough after you clean it. Perhaps there are holes or tears in the fabric or it has just become very worn down. You don’t need to throw it out, though. You still have a chance to rescue it by reupholstering it. You can replace the fabric with something similar or give it a completely new look. This is a job you could attempt to do yourself. However, if you’re unsure about it, it’s just as easy to get a professional to do it for you. Get some quotes to make sure that you get the right price.

Repair Wood: Wooden furniture can end up with lots of little blemishes in its daily use. You might notice scratches, stains, or cracks in the varnish. There are some simple ways for you to fix these issues on your own. For example, you can repair scratches using moist coffee grounds by applying them for a few minutes and then wiping away. Oil and vinegar can help to remove stains, while sandpaper and nail polish can help you repair varnish. If you have bigger issues, such as loose joints, you could fix them yourself or have the furniture repaired by a professional.

Paint or Varnish: A lick of paint is often a good way to give something a new lease on life. If your furniture is looking a bit dull, painting it could revive it. Just make sure that you use the right type of paint for the material. You could also choose to use varnish or a new stain on your wooden furniture if you want to refresh the surface. You could create an entirely new look or just give your furniture a subtle refresh.

See if you can save a piece of furniture before you decide to get rid of it. It could last for another few years!
