Oh hey!!! Guess what?! Today is my thirty-second birthday… AHHHH!! As the old saying goes, another year older another year sexier, amiright? As I traverse my way through my thirties, I have truly come to the realization that age is nothing but a number and I am so excited to see what this year has in store for me. I know I have a fun summer and fall coming up! Lots of concerts including The Strokes, Josh Groban, and Billy Idol as well as a family vacation to Italy. Yeah, thirty-two sounds pretty good to me!
As I reflect on this past year, I have found that it was a great one – primarily because I am back in the social media game and I am so happy about that! Thirty-one blessed me with lots of cool opportunities for both work and play like a fabulous trip to New Orleans with my sister and a big wedding celebration for my cousin. My family, friends, and beloved bunnies are in good health, Johnny and I continue to go strong with our fifth wedding anniversary and life has been good. Who could ask for anything more?!
There are so many things that I’m looking forward to this year and I can’t wait to share it with all of you. Especially celebrating my twelve year blogiversary in August! For close to twelve years, lifewithlilred has been such a special part of my life and it brings me so much joy to sit down at the keyboard every morning and tune you all in to the latest and greatest. I am so appreciative to any and everyone who has stopped by in my little corner of the internet. My hope is that my page is just as much of a safe haven for you as it is for me whether you have been a long term reader or a new friend. My readers are what make lifewithlilred shine and I couldn’t do it without all of you. Here’s to thirty-two and sharing in it all together!
Howdy! This past Tuesday I enjoyed a wonderful fill at Elysian Nails to get my talons right for mine and Johnny’s birthaversary party. No event is complete without getting these claws fresh to death! I was so excited for this appointment because my go to girl wasn’t available during my last fill. The tech who did it did an excellent job but it just wasn’t the same! I couldn’t wait to chat away about all of our updates and hot goss while being primped and pampered during my break at work. I got back to my shift feeling like a billion bucks! Check out these pretty little babies with an ultra unique color combo:
It is very rare that I go to the salon with a set in stone plan for my nail polish. I just like to browse my options and select whatever speaks to me. Since we had plans for a birthaversary bash, I knew I wanted glitter and that was about it lol. While perusing the nail polish book I fell in love with the gorgeous, glittery dusty rose and knew we were in business. But what to pair it with? A row or two down from the rose was a funky glitter teal and I decided to go for it to make a pseudo watermelon motif. Part fruity inspo, part mermaid this duo was everything. It was an unlikely pairing, for sure, but I love the results and I literally can’t stop looking at them!
As us gals gabbed away, I was seriously so impressed by my tech. She had improved so much and I just had to sing her praises. Her speed was legit off the charts and she wrapped up my fill in forty-five minutes flat. The stiletto shaping was also divine and extra pointy which I really appreciated! I could tell that she had been working really hard to perfect her craft and it made me proud AND inspired. It was a much needed reminder that there is always room for improvement no matter how long you have been doing something. Her gains definitely made me want to work harder, keep putting my best foot forward, and continue to learn more. ❤
This fill was absolutely fabulous and I already can’t wait to get back in my tech’s chair for my July appointment. There is nothing better than being in my salon happy place!
Do you get your nails done often? What is your preferred nail shape? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah
As sad as it can seem, there are often times when we fall out of love with our homes. When we first buy them, it can feel really exciting. You may find that you’re so in love with the style, the space, and how it feels overall but, as with anything over time, that can fade. Homes need a lot of upkeep and maintenance in order to stay looking their best. But not only that, we can change too. This means that we may be looking for other options or focusing too much on the things we don’t like! If you want to fall back in love with your home again, here’s what might help you:
A Big Clear Out:
For starters, it’s always worth considering having a huge clear-out! You don’t always realize how much stuff you acquire over time. You may find that you end up with a lot of things you no longer want or need. Because of that, your home may look messy and overcrowded which is nothing a good decluttering session can’t solve. That way, you can donate unwanted goods to charity and you may find that having more space completely transforms how you feel about your home.
Getting Things Fixed:
Up next, you may want to look into repairing or replacing anything that needs it. Sometimes when things break we mean to fix them but never get around to it. This only adds to the overall effect! Taking the time to call in experts and spruce things up can really make a difference. Getting a new window installation to replace your old or broken windows can give your home an instant face lift. The same goes for repairing your old boiler or coffee machine, which will also add to your overall quality of life.
Help With Chores:
One of the reasons that you may have fallen out of love with your home is that it feels hard to maintain. If you’re the only one doing things and focusing on making it run like clockwork, you may be feeling tired. It can be exhausting and frustrating when everything falls on you to manage. Create a chore chart and rope your family members in or even hiring some home help could change your outlook here.
Updated Decor:
Of course, if your home hasn’t been decorated in years, it may also be getting to you. If things are looking tired, refreshing them can be a huge game changer. Take a look at some design inspiration to see what you like. Then, you can get started with some paint and new furniture pieces to breathe fresh life into each room. Sometimes your home just needs some love and care, and it will look brand new!
Refreshing your home with updated decor, repairs, and a good old fashioned deep clean can give you that brand new feel once more. Enjoy it!
Hi! I recently visited the Great Lakes Science Center in Cleveland with a friend to see their newly installed Titanic exhibit. I don’t know much about the Titanic and I have never seen the movie but my friend is most fascinated by it and I was more than happy to tag along. We spent a solid hour and a half making our way through the exhibit and I really enjoyed myself and learned a lot. It was set up beautifully with replicas of different rooms, artifacts recovered from the sea floor, and an actual iceberg which really blew my mind! Take a look at some pics and let’s discuss further:
After paying for tickets for the exhibit, we were given a boarding pass of one of the passengers of the Titanic to hang onto until the end. Then, we could see if our passenger survived or not and gained insight into their outcome. With boarding passes in hand, we explored the exhibit with a fine toothed comb and it was wonderful. My favorite part was definitely seeing the restored artifacts that were recovered as the displays featured a picture of when they were found on the sea floor. The before and after was nuts! A particularly interesting display had au gratin dishes that were found in perfect rows. They were stored away in a box that disintegrated and they were still lined up as they were left. I also was drawn to the different clothing and accessories that were found but it was so sad to think of the people who were meant to wear them.
As well as artifacts, there were also room replicas including the boiler room, first class cabins, and the bunking rooms. A fun fact I learned was that a first class ticket on the Titanic would have been equivalent to over one hundred thousand dollars today! As we went about the space, there were direct quotes from passengers and employees and their portraits along the walls. The quotes recorded from when the ship was sinking was harrowing and reminded me a lot of the last messages that people sent during 9/11. I could tell how lovingly those displays were made and it was inspiring to read about their bravery.
The piece de resistance of the Titanic exhibit was twofold. There was the iceberg, of course, which I’m not quite sure how that worked out and neither did the employee that I asked. It had something to do with a cooling plate and gathering moisture in the air? From what the employee said, the iceberg has actually grown since the exhibit opened in late May. There was also a display of part of the ship that was recovered that we were allowed to touch and that was way, way cool. It’s not every day that you get to touch a literal piece of history!
If you are in the Cleveland area or traveling nearby, I can’t recommend this exhibit enough. Even if you haven’t seen the movie like me, you are still going to be in for a treat!
Do you know a lot about the Titanic? What is a classic movie that you haven’t seen? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah
At some point in your life, the time will probably arrive when you need to refinance your home. Refinancing means replacing your current mortgage with a new one, preferably on better terms. Most mortgages run anywhere between one and five years and need to be renewed after the contract period. Even though you’ll be paying a mortgage on your home for longer than that in most cases, you can adjust the terms to suit your purposes and reflect changing interest rates.
The three main types of refinance:
Refinancing income is in three main types, and they all have different purposes.
The most common approach is to swap your current loan for a new one at a lower interest rate. This is standard in the mortgage market and allows you to adjust how much you repay based on your circumstances. In many cases, you’ll find that there are better deals out there than when you signed up, and interest rates have risen significantly during the intervening period.
Another option is a cash-out refinance. This happens when your home grows in value, and you can borrow more money against it. You can then take the difference as cash and invest it somewhere else. Many real estate investors like doing this because it gives them the cash they need to put a deposit on a new property. It’s risky because it relies on general property values rising over time.
The final option is a cash-in refinance. The idea here is to bring a lump sum of money to the closing table to pay down your principal balance. This is a method you can use to lower your monthly payments significantly on the property.
When does refinancing make sense?
Refinancing makes sense in several situations. It carries some upfront fees, but it can also advantage you financially. For example, it makes sense if your credit score is above 620. This tells lenders that you’re relatively low risk. It also makes sense when your home equity is currently at least 20%. If your home equity is less than this, it can increase the amount of interest you pay on your monthly repayments in the future, and it might not be economical.
You should also consider refinancing if you’ve got access to bridging loans at Squared Money. These are short-term loans that can provide you with the money you need in order to get the best possible refinance deal on your property when it becomes available.
How the refinancing process works:
The refinancing process is relatively simple:
Go and shop around multiple vendors, preferably using a mortgage broker to help you get estimates from three to five of them.
Look for the best one and submit your paperwork.
Provide financial proof of your status, including your W-2, bank statements, and pay stubs.
Show the lender that you’re able to repay the loan.
Once you close on the loan, make sure the estimated cost matches your initial estimate. You usually have a cooling-off period where you can change your refinancing agreement if needed.
With the right help, refinancing your home is a simple and financially beneficial process!
Howdy! Today is a fantastic, wonderful day because it is mine and Johnny’s five year wedding anniversary!! Rather, it is the middle part of our birthaversary week with Johnny’s birthday being on the first and mine falling on the seventh. We always joke that it makes it easier to remember everything but we both revel in our week of celebrations and I love how our special dates are arranged! What are the odds that I would fall head over heels with a guy whose birthday is so close to mine?! Let’s take a stroll down memory lane with some of these wedding shots:
Johnny is my main squeeze and has been since the first moment we met. It was truly a case of love at first sight and we have barely been apart since we started dating over six years ago. I wouldn’t want it any other way! To celebrate our birthaversary, we have a full hodge podge of activities planned. A party with friends and family, a big lunch with my family, all of the concerts, and all of the video games too! Our primary prezzies were concert tickets to three shows at Blossom – The Strokes, Josh Groban (lol), and Billy Idol. I am SO excited to extend our festivities throughout the summer with our lineup. We are seeing The Strokes in the next few weeks and I can’t wait! 🙂
I’m genuinely not sure what you are supposed to gift your partner with for different anniversaries but I’m pretty confident it isn’t music and video games. Isn’t it paper and pearls and stuff? But it sure works for us! We recently got a Switch 2 and purchased games for each other as well. The new Mario Kart for Johnny and Pokopia for me. It is basically like Animal Crossing but Pokemon and I have been playing it every day since Johnny got it for me. I am a woman obsessed! Oh – and we also got some really stellar Taco Bell this past weekend as an early celebration and that was just the tops. What can I say? We like what we like!
Five years of marital bliss with my Johnny went by so quickly and I still can’t quite believe my fairy tale. I am the luckiest girl in the world!
How do you celebrate anniversaries? Are you going to a concert soon? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah
Howdy!! I am an avid fan of the skin care brand, ValJean Labs, and have really enjoyed their Radiant Glow Scrub and Hydrate Foaming Cleanser. Their products are so gentle but effective, super long lasting, and cruelty free. During my last skin care haul at TJMaxx, I purchased the Deep Cleansing foaming cleanser with salicylic acid and tea tree and have been using it for the past two weeks or so. It is such a refreshing pick me up every morning and I have been loving the results! Let’s discuss:
The Deep Cleansing foaming cleanser by ValJean Labs is fabulousness in a bottle. I seriously can’t even begin to describe to you how invigorating it is! It’s like an icy cool blast but not in a harsh way – more like in a “Hey! Wake up!” kind of way lol. This bubbly, sudsy cleanser leaves my skin tingling and I can still feel that little buzz hours after my morning shower. Although the key ingredients of salicylic acid and tea tree are known to dry skin out, it has not had that effect on me in the slightest. My skin still feels so well nourished and it has beat my blackheads to boot!
This cleanser also features a scrub brush which is an especially nice touch. I have never seen that offered on a face wash before whether it be high end products at Sephora or bargain shopping at TJMaxx. I got this cleanser for six dollars and it feels like such a steal! After washing my face with my hands, I like to take the time to use the scrub brush and it’s just like getting a mini facial. The bristles are quite soft and I love knowing that it’s getting to all of the nooks and crannies that you won’t get from a regular hand wash. I’ll definitely be keeping the scrub brush even after this cleanser is complete for further use. 😀
If you are on the hunt for a new cleanser, I highly recommend anything by ValJean Labs! This Deep Cleansing face wash will be perfect for washing away the grime and sweat from summer days!
What is your favorite skin care brand? Are you loyal to one brand or do you use anything? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah
Everyone wants to be as healthy as possible, but most people think that means making large, dramatic changes. That doesn’t have to be the case! It’s just a matter of having a few healthy habits and snacks, and there shouldn’t be much to worry about. Four of these could end up being essential for your health as time goes on:
Taking an Exercise Break:
You’ll already know you should take breaks when you’re working, whether you’re in an office or working from home. This shouldn’t just be to grab a coffee or going to have lunch, though. It’s worth adding a bit of exercise to it, especially if you happen to sit at an office all day. The human body isn’t supposed to be seated constantly, after all. You could end up having health conditions because of it. By taking an exercise break you allow yourself the time to improve yourself while also boosting your mood for the rest of the day.
Cutting Out the Cigarettes:
Smoking is one of the most common habits around the world, despite how unhealthy it is. It increases your chances of developing various forms of cancer while impacting more than a few other parts of your life, too. That’s why it’s always worth quitting. You’ll end up noticing a large difference in your health as time goes on. Thankfully, this doesn’t have to be as hard as you’d think. It could just be a matter of using the right products. Nicotine gum, patches, and similar products can help. Even vapes can be a great option to help cut down and quit, especially with the likes of IVG Pro 12 Refill vape pods.
Keeping Your Balance:
Most people don’t worry about their balance too much. At least, that’s the case until they start having problems with it. When you’re relatively young, this is the furthest thing from your mind. But, it could be more of a problem as you get older, and you could risk more than a few injuries. Preventing this doesn’t have to be too hard. Yoga and similar steps could be more than enough to help with your balance. And, you can work them into the exercise breaks mentioned above to make it even easier for yourself.
Being Mindful:
Your mental health is just as important to focus on with your health habits as your physical health is. And, there are more than a few habits that can help with this, with mindfulness being one of the more notable. It’ll help deal with your stress levels and anxiety quite a bit more than you would’ve thought. It can even improve your mood and help with mild pain, too. The trick is to put in consistent time and effort. You’ll see some benefits short-term, but these get a lot more pronounced as time goes on.
Living a healthy and happy life can be as simple as incorporating a few of the tips above into your daily routine!
Hello everyone and welcome to a brand new edition of Lil Red’s Book Club! In a spoiler free setting, as always, we will be discussing the third book in the Stillhouse Lake series by Rachel Caine called Wolfhunter River. I have been so enjoying this twisty series about the ex-wife and family of a serial killer and couldn’t wait to dive into the third book after a palette cleanser called The Midnight Show. The Stillhouse Lake series has been a page turner from the jump and Wolfhunter River was no exception. I devoured it in three sittings! Before we begin, I will be placing a trigger warning on Wolfhunter River for graphic violence and highly disturbing content. You ready? Let’s get to it:
Gwen Proctor shot her ex-husband, Melvin Royal, dead. So why does it feel like he is still everywhere? Through meticulous planning, he has managed to sent posthumous correspondence to Gwen and the internet trolls have never let up. What’s more, one of Gwen’s nightmares has come to fruition. That’s right, a documentary is being made about Gwen and her involvement in Melvin’s crimes despite being acquitted. She will be thrust into the spotlight along with her children, Lanny and Connor, and partner, Sam, and the light will be anything but flattering. Documentarians have already swarmed on Stillhouse Lake and it takes immense self control for Gwen and her family to not smash the cameras.
Gwen, Sam, and the kids have all but been sequestered to their home to avoid the documentary crew but they won’t be cooped up for much longer. While her and Sam are doing the dishes, the phone rings and Gwen hears the voice of a terrified woman named Marlene. This is not uncommon. Since killing her ex-husband, Gwen has received a lot of calls from women trying to escape their abusers. Marlene requests that Gwen visits her in nearby Wolfhunter so she can learn the full story as she’s not comfortable discussing it on the phone. Gwen refuses as this is surely a trap. Why would a stranger want to lure her away, alone to a remote one stoplight town if not for something nefarious?
One day later, Gwen receives another call from Marlene’s number but it isn’t Marlene on the phone. It’s her daughter, Vee. Vee has found her mother dead after returning home from a bender and the police are moments away from breaking down the door and arresting her. Vee claims her innocence and Gwen somewhat believes her. Then, she thinks back to her conversation with Marlene. Someone or something was scaring her to death. Could this be the repercussion for Marlene reaching out to her in the first place?
As a family, the Proctor crew makes the trip to Wolfhunter to find out who killed Marlene and protect Vee from the death penalty. In this small town, no one is a friend to the family of outsiders. The cops are crooked, the locals refuse to speak, and Gwen finds herself in the middle of a plot that goes far beyond the murder of Marlene. With no one to trust but each other, the Proctors tread carefully to begin their own investigation. Time is of the essence and not just for Vee. A little girl needs Gwen’s help too. Will Gwen and her family crack the case? Or will those she needs to save succumb to the brutality of Wolfhunter? Read the Stillhouse Lake series to find out!
Wolfhunter River was a fast paced thrill of a ride that kept me on my toes the whole way through. There was, admittedly, a lot going on in this book and it was somewhat difficult to keep track of it all. However, when the pieces began to come together everything became crystal clear and it turned the urgency dial up to one thousand. As always, Gwen led this book like the badass she is and it was exciting to see Lanny and Connor come into their own as more major parts of the story. And, of course, the “Will they? Won’t they?” of Gwen and Sam continues to add a delicious touch of romance!
The third book in the Stillhouse Lake series was interesting because it was the first one where Melvin was dead. Rachel Caine expertly crafted Wolfhunter River because despite Gwen killing him, it was like you could still feel Melvin lingering on every page. Every fork in the road the Proctors encountered felt like something Melvin would have planned and delighted in himself. There are far more monsters in the world than just Melvin, though, and Wolfhunter River gave Gwen and her family a crash course in the danger that goes beyond one of the worst serial killers the world has ever seen.
Overall, I am going to rate Wolfhunter River with an eight out of ten stars. I liked this one a lot better than the sequel and can’t wait to tuck into Bitter Falls next!
What are you currently reading? What is your favorite book series? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah
Hello everyone! Today is a fantastic, wonderful day because it is my fantastic, wonderful husband’s birthday! My Johnny turns thirty-seven today which kick starts our birthaversary week. His birthday, our fifth wedding anniversary on the fourth, and my birthday on the seventh. I am so excited to celebrate with all of our friends and family! Johnny has been my main squeeze for over six years now and I simply couldn’t imagine going through this thing called life without him. He is my best friend, my pal and confidant, and every second of every day is the best because I’m with him. ❤
Every day when I’m at work, I literally am chomping at the bit to get home to Johnny because I miss him terribly. It is my favorite thing in the world when he opens the door for me, gives me a big hug, and asks me about my day. Then, everything is a-okay because the dream team is back together. Whether we are out on the town or just at home binging our favorite shows, there is nothing better than just being with him, talking, and laughing like crazy. No matter how low I’m feeling, Johnny can always coax a smile out of me and can instantly turn it into belly laughs in a matter of seconds. He is the personification of sunshine and just has that effect on people!
My Johnny is the kindest person I have ever met and it simply radiates. He lights up every room he walks into just by being his charming, goofy self and knows how to make everyone feel special. Especially me! Johnny makes me feel like the most special gal in the world and I am the luckiest gal in the world for it. For more than half a decade, I have never felt more seen or heard than when I am with him and that is the most beautiful gift anyone could ever give. It truly feels like we have been together for forever and, knowing Johnny, I’m sure he would quip back with “it feels like an eternity” before flashing his best smile. I wouldn’t have it any other way. ❤
