YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE! One more week of class and then Lil Red is on spring break! My first spring break as a college student! :’) I don’t have any fancy or exciting plans, but that’s okay because a break is a break is a break. I suppose I do have some plans, that is if sleeping, eating lots of Taco Bell, and binge watching Netflix counts as plans. But that all sounds pretty pathetic….so I guess I plan on being pathetic – and I’m SO okay with that! Mama needs it! Not too much is new and crazy, but I do have some fun pictures to share with you guys while I take a break from stupid math homework. (Speaking of math, I’m doing shockingly good in my class! All of the stuff I’m learning right now is SO much easier than I remember it being in high school, thank gawd!) Yesterday I had a beautiful afternoon hanging out with my friend, Neva whom I’m sure you guys know all about from previous posts about her. Of course we had to take a selfie, so here’s us being fabulous divas as usual:
I love her :*) Seeing Miss Neva yesterday was a real treat, because she drew a lovely portrait of me! Neva loves art, specifically drawing and painting and she’s wanted to do a picture of me for forever, so yesterday we finally sat down and she drew me! It was so sweet, and I was all smiles the whole time. Once she finishes painting it, I’ll be sure to post a picture for your viewing pleasure. It was a much needed afternoon of girl talk and good old fashioned tom foolery. We had an absolute ball! 🙂
After a fun visit with my BFF, I had some hang out time at home before I headed over to Ramon’s (my sisters boyfriends) house to watch the season three premiere of The Following with them. The premiere was fantastic, as I expected and of course Kevin Bacon was looking fine as hell! ME-OW! Whenever I’m the third wheel to my favorite couple, cuteness always seems to happen between Kristen and Ramon. I decided to capture this first hand, as well as a disgusted reaction from myself. 😉
^^^ FOREVER ALONE FACE!!!!!! Hahaha, they’re so precious, and I’m so single – but that’s a-okay with me because as the saying goes: “I’m a strong, independent woman who don’t need NO man!” This pic has become an instant classic on Facebook and the source of hysterical laughter for me and Kristen. #foreveralone #singleandsomewhatreadytomingle
I may be M.I.A. for a bit this week because I have quite a bit done before I can finally settle down for my break next week. However, I’ll try and post as often as I can, even if it’s just something short and sweet like today! OH and good news! Remember how I told you guys that my computer broke and I’ve had to use a super shitty old computer for homework and blogging? WELL, my computer got fixed and it’s ready to be picked up, so Lil Red will no longer be tearing out her beloved locks out of frustration! Huzzah!
Alright crew, I hope you have a fabulous rest of your day! Did any of you guys watch the season premiere of The Following? What did you think of it? I’d love to hear from you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah
Hey there and happy March!!! Spring is on the horizon and I don’t know about you, but I’m so ready for it! Especially considering it’s going to snow all day in good ol’ Akron, Ohio. -____- As of late I’ve been enjoying some great movies, literature, and music that I’d love to share with you. There’s also one heinous excuse for a film that I must warn you about, so let’s get started!!
Watch St. Vincent: I watched this fantastically sweet movie last night with my parents and I loved every minute of it. St. Vincent was a classic “grumpy old man with a sensitive side underneath it all” film starring Bill Murray who was quite phenomenal. (He was nominated for Best Actor at the Oscars for his performance.) The sensitive side to Vincent is brought out by a number of people and situations throughout the film including his new neighbors Maggie (Melissa McCarthy) and her young son Oliver (Jaeden Lieberher), the lady of the night Daka (Naomi Watts), and his Alzheimer ridden wife Sandy (Donna Mitchell). The all star cast all give inspiring performances. I was pleasantly surprised that Melissa McCarthy was able to pull off a serious roll and young Jaeden Lieberher was sweet as can be. Usually I’m not fond of child actors, but he was just adorable and not annoying in the slightest. And can we please just talk about Naomi Watts as Daka?! Between her prostitute-y hair and makeup and her thick Russian accent, I didn’t even realize it was her until my mom told me! She nailed it. In the classic storyline with a twist, St. Vincent truly showed that you can’t judge a book by its cover. The film was the perfect combination of serious and pure fun and I can’t recommend it enough.
DO NOT WATCH Before I Go To Sleep: I’m sure you guys will recall that I absolutely loved the book Before I Go To Sleep from previous posts. I still hold true to my statement that this book was infinitely better than the popular Gone Girl. I was extremely excited to hear that one of my favorites was made into a movie starring the lovely Nicole Kidman and the hotty mchothot Colin Firth. I’ve been looking forward to watching this film for a while now and was so happy when my mom brought it home from the library yesterday. Eager to see my favorite book on the big screen (more like eighteen inch TV screen, but same difference) I popped the movie into the DVD player and was ready to be taken away into the creepy confusing world described in the book. To bring you up to speed if you’re not familiar with the storyline, Before I Go To Sleep tells the tale of Christine, a woman who experienced horrible trauma causing her memory to erase every night when she falls asleep. The movie started out okay for about ten minutes, and then everything went downhill. The movie was absolutely NOTHING like the book. Important facts were altered or removed completely and the acting of Kidman and Firth was sub par at best. Quite frankly, I’ve seen Lifetime movies that were better than this. If you read the book and enjoyed it as much as I did, don’t bother watching the movie because I give you the Lil Red Guarantee that you will absolutely hate it. If you have never read the book and are thinking about watching it, DON’T DO IT! It sucked and you’re welcome for saving you an hour and a half of your life. 🙂
^^SHAMEFUL!
Read Dad Is Fat: Lol, if you’re familiar with the extremely pale comedian Jim Gaffigan, you’ll know that this is his memoir to all things parenting. Gaffigan has a herd of five small equally as pale offspring and Dad Is Fat includes stories, tips, observations, and just pure silliness about his adventures as a parent. Usually I’m not one for reading books penned by celebrities and I’m also not fond of reading comedic books but when my brother was home a few weeks ago he brought Dad Is Fat with him (which I actually bought for him) in case I wanted to read it. He told me it was hilarious so I accepted the book to maybe read at a later time. That time came sooner than I thought, after I finished the last book I was reading The Rosie Effect in a whopping three days. (The Rosie Effect was the sequel to The Rosie Project and it was simply delightful! Definitely give the series a try, you’ll be glad you did!) Anyways, I was completely out of things to read so I begrudgingly picked up Dad Is Fat and was instantly in stitches. If you’re looking for something lighthearted and lots of fun, give this goofy memoir a try. You’ll be in laughing hysterics the whole time!
Give The Rosie Series A Try: As I mentioned above, I recently finished the much anticipated sequel to The Rosie Project, The Rosie Effect. The Rosie books tell the story of calculated, scientific, and socially awkward Don and his quest to find true love. The books never go right out and say that Don is on the autism spectrum, but you can easily deduce through the context clues that he indeed is on the spectrum. Don’s life is turned upside down in the first book when he finds himself falling in love with the outgoing and outspoken Rosie, who is literally his polar opposite. In the sequel which I really enjoyed, we find our cute couple enjoying married life until a major shock happens…Rosie is pregnant! The Rosie Effect follows the hilarious and at times heartbreaking moments in Don’s every day life. New friendships are made with eccentric characters even in the midst of a marital rough patch. Blame it on the hormones, I guess?! Can Don and Rosie salvage their relationship in time for their new baby? I guess you’re gonna have to find out!
Listen To Tom Vek: I know that I’ve mentioned Tom Vek before, but he’s slowly but surely becoming one of my favorite artists, so I figured I’d mention him again. I’m so obsessed with his album Leisure Seizure, I seriously can’t even. Vek has this amazing ability to make his voice drone on and on but still sound completely amazing. His music is moody, melancholy, and I can’t get enough. His monotonous voice is the definition of complete angst and all of his songs sound so mechanical and cool. It’s rare for me to hear an album and enjoy every song, but Leisure Seizure defies those odds, delivering hits track after track. I would put videos for the entire album on here, but I’ll leave it up to you guys to find more of his music if you like him. Here’s a few tracks that I really enjoy to get you started:
So there you have it, my Lil Red Recommends – Entertainment Edition! Have you guys read any of the books or watched any of the films I mentioned? What did you think of them? I’d love to hear from you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Happy Sunday! -Sarah
Whatsup guys? So we’ve come to the end of the month of February, and some good things happened and some not so good things happened. Regardless of the good, this month can kiss my butt, so let me be the first to say: BYE FELICIA!!
^ Lol, I love that picture!
Anyways, spring is on the horizon, and spring brings new life, new adventures, and a fabulous new wardrobe. 😉 Point being, I’m ready for a change. I’m ready for a change in people who I associate myself with and most importantly I’m ready for a change in myself. The Lil Red Lifestyle is all about confidence, and lately I haven’t been feeling so hot, and this needs to change ASAP. To do this, I plan on giving myself a mental makeover starting with removing these shitty self harm thoughts once and for all. February was a month of stressers and slip ups but I have a brand new beautiful month to better myself with so let’s get it! Another thing I want to work on changing is the way I view myself. I’m sick of feeling like I’m not good enough for anything or anyone and the only person who can change that is myself. Here’s the thing, I know that I’m a pretty girl and I know that I’m extremely intelligent but I don’t completely believe it. The before mentioned knowledge feels like I’m thinking about a totally different person, because in my head all I see are flaws. It’s so flattering to have people tell me that they think I’m pretty and whatever but it’s sometimes hard to hear it since I don’t believe it myself. (Oh what a tangled web we weave.) So the game plan is to give my negative mind a clean sweep and start over fresh and new. Maybe then I can get to know the Sarah that everyone else sees. I just want to be happy, and once I have a positive mindset, I know my pursuit of happiness will be a hell of a lot easier.
^^ I had to!
I can’t low ball the things that are great right now though – like how I’m absolutely killing the college game at Tri-C! That’s something that I’m extremely proud of! Speaking of which…I got an A on my first math quiz in two and a half years so I was freaking ecstatic about that!!!! I hope you guys don’t think that I’m a completely miserable sad sack, because I’m not. I have a lot of good days, it’s just that the bad days are overwhelmingly bad…and that’s not okay. I had some minor setbacks in February, but I’m ready to get back on the horse, and fuckin kill the game as per usual! I have one more week of class left until my spring break, so I’ll have some much needed Lil Red time so I can pamper myself and sleep in!!! So let’s do it. Operation Positive Mindset and Operation Kill The College Game are a go! My positivity percentage has been at a solid fifty percent these past few months so I plan on raising the bar until I get to a one hundred twenty-five percent, at the very least! 😉 #operation125%
I hope that the month of March treats all of you with beautiful weather and extreme happiness. I also hope that all of you (including myself) are treating yourselves with love and respect. Bon voyage and good riddance to February! Bring on spring! What are you most looking forward to in the month of March? What’s your favorite thing about spring? I’d love to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much Love. -Sarah

PS: My featured image photo flaunts my Beetlejuice jacket that I mentioned in my last post Spring Shopping Extravaganza! I love it so much it hurts! Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice! ❤
I had an absolutely magical night yesterday thanks to my beloved best friend Kate, whom you guys know all about! For my Christmas gift, Kate got me tickets to see 2Cellos – AKA two hot guys playing classic rock and looking fine as hell. Last night was the night of the concert and we celebrated the belated holiday with a bang! To start the evening we went to the mall and did a little shopping, while sipping the most sub par coffee ever from Starbucks – but that’s okay! After an hour or so of perusing, it was off to dinner at Bravo, an absolutely delightful restaurant right across from the mall. I had never been there before and it was so delicious!! Bravo is an Italian restaurant, and it’s like a step up from the Olive Garden. I got the Penne Mediterranean and it was so insanely good! Penne pasta with a butter garlic sauce, spinach, sun dried tomatoes, pine nuts, and feta cheese. YUM!!! After a beautiful meal it was off to EJ Thomas Hall, which is a stunning concert hall located near the University of Akron. As soon as we neared the university, the traffic was insane (it was a sold out show, so that explains it)! Luckily, Kate goes to Akron U, so she knew a super secret parking spot and we were able to beat the crowds of people waiting to park. Mwahaha. It was a bit of a trek to EJ Thomas, and it was freezing cold out! I instantly regretted wearing a maxi skirt and my beloved Vera Wang wedges…but not really – beauty is pain. Once we got into the warmth of the theatre, we found our seats, which were the most PERFECT nosebleed seats ever. Like seriously, they were amazing. We were smack dab in the middle of the row and we were essentially looking down on the stage so we could see everything perfectly! At EJ Thomas we were joined by Kate’s sister Erika and their lovely family friend Donna, whom I had never met before but heard amazing things about so that was such a treat! Here’s a few of the pre show selfies Kate and I took:
^^^^ I LOVE US!!!!
Anyways, the 2Cellos show was nothing short of phenomenal! The studs in my featured image picture are from Croatia and it’s safe to say that I’m in love with both of them. Throughout the night, the boys played some classical numbers, but mainly played cello versions of classic rock, like U2, Guns n’ Roses, AC/DC, Nirvana, and Michael Jackson. The music was astounding and the light shows put on were great as well. The best part of the night was when the beautiful blokes played their version of U2’s “With or Without You” which is mine and Kate’s favorite. We held hands (even though both of ours were super sweaty) the entire time and it was such an amazing moment to share with my best friend. Another awesome part of the performance was when they did a medley of Michael Jackson songs, including “Smooth Criminal” which was SO COOL!! The lights that were used during that number was perfect – bright whites and dark blue. WOOF! Needless to say, the music was impeccable, the night was lovely, and the boys of 2Cellos were so hot that they literally made me clutch my pearls. What more could a girl want?
^^^ Posted above are some of my favorite covers that 2Cellos performs, which I was lucky enough to see last night! If you enjoy good music, please PLEASE give these videos a watch….it will blow your mind!
So there you have it, mine and Kate’s late Christmas celebration extravaganza! We had such a beautiful time and I’m so lucky to have her as my best friend, partner in crime, and soul mate. Have any of you guys heard of 2Cellos before? What’s your favorite cover that they do? I’d love to hear from you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much Love. – A Very Happy Sarah
Guyyyyyyyyyys. I’m. So. ANNOYED!!!! But before I talk about the sources of my annoyances, let’s talk about the good things that these past few days have brought! My big bro Peter was home from Tuesday until Sunday before he returned back to Madison, Wisconsin. We had a fantastic time hanging out, I missed him so much! I treasured all of my time spent with him, from playing Mario Kart drink and drive, watching The Ladies Man, annihilating in some Diablo II, to just chilling and bro talking – it was all beautiful. Fingers crossed that he can come home again soon! 🙂 Alright, what else? Oh! I’m getting a new tattoo this week! I’m not going to say exactly what it is, but I can tell you it will be themed from my favorite book in the entire world, The Little Prince. So make sure you keep checking in with me this week, because I’ll for sure be posting pictures of it once it’s all done! Exciting stuff. And can we please just talk about the Oscars for a hot minute? *Kisses fingers* Mwah. To die for. I enjoyed everything about last nights spectacle – the fashion, the performances, and most importantly the appreciation I had for all of the wonderful craftsmen and women being honored at the awards. Unfortunately, I’ve been slacking severely this year as far as watching the Oscar nominated films goes – I’ve only seen three. (Unbroken, American Sniper, and The Grand Budapest Hotel which I actually just watched today and absolutely adored. C’est magnifique.) However, I plan on watching all of the films as soon as I can get my hands on them either at the library or the video store. I’m particularly excited to see Birdman and Whiplash, but everything looks so good! The Foxcatcher, The Imitation Game, The Theory of Everything, Boyhood, Still Alice, and Ida are all on my must watch list as well! (Make sure you leave me a comment on how you feel about any of these movies – but no spoilers please!!)
Now, onto the annoying stuff….my freaking laptop that I do all of my school work and blogging on is broken – which is just dandy considering a majority of my college classes are taken online. I’m currently using one of my moms old work laptops to write this, but unfortunately it can’t run my school software very well, so I had to spend four plus hours at the local library today to do my school work. It’s not like it’s a huge deal or anything, but it was so nice to be able to work from the comfort of my home (hello no pants!) or Starbucks. And the computers at the library suck major ass, so I had to spend a lot of time today waiting for things to load or reload because I got kicked off of the servers so many times. By the time I left the library I was on the verge of tearing my hair out and proceeded to chain smoke and swear the entire way home. As soon as I got home today, I knew that I needed a break to cool my jets, so I decided that this afternoon would be the perfect time to finally watch The Grand Budapest Hotel. I loved it too much and it definitely helped get a smile back on my face for the rest of the day. Fair warning, you guys are gonna hear a lot of me being annoyed this next month, because that’s how long it’s going to take for my laptop to be fixed, but just bear with me cause god knows mama’s gonna need to vent. It’s given me quite a bit of stress this past weekend because of how much my school work depends on that damn piece of technology – so fingers crossed the problem can be solved promptly and I’ll have my laptop back in no time. Le sigh.
^^^ Today definitely calls for my happy time music. While I was working at the library today I had all of my U2 albums on shuffle on my iPod and it definitely made my work fest tolerable at the very least. THANKS BONO, YA STUD!!! ❤
Alright crew, there you have it, Lil Red’s Monday Update. What did you guys think of the Oscars? Who got snubbed? Who looked a hot wreck? I wanna hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much Love. -A Very Annoyed Sarah
Hey guys! I don’t know what the weather is like in your neck of the woods, but it absolutely SUCKS in good ol’ Akron, Ohio. It’s snowing like hell out and I had a super truamatizing drive this morning. I was supposed to help out at a therapeutic drama class for kids on the autism spectrum, but unfortunately that didn’t happen, because my car got stuck on the side of the road. -____- STORY TIME: So, I was driving to the theatre and everything was going fine and dandy, the roads were complete shit, but the Little Red Love Machine was pulling through as best as she could. About half way through my drive to the theatre there’s a huge hill that you have to go up, and the car behind me was riding my ass SO HARD. I kid you not, he was at least two feet away from the back of my car and all the while it’s snowing like mad and the roads are barely driveable. About half way up the hill, my car lost all of her power and I was inching along slowly but surely. At this point the car behind me is about one foot away from my rear end and I start to panic. I knew that if this car was behind me for one more minute he would more than likely hit me, so I swerved my car out of the way and ended up getting stuck on the side of the hill. What really pissed me off was that as soon as I made the swerving motion with my car the asshole behind me cut me off, barely missing the Little Red Love Machine. So here I am now, seething and scared on the side of a massive hill. I do the only thing that I can do, I call my mom. She gives me the number for AAA and they told me there would be at least a four hour wait for someone to come help me get my car unstuck and ain’t nobody got time for that! After I got off the phone with AAA I noticed two other cars that had to pull over to the road side because of the driving conditions. About five minutes later, a plow truck spun out on the road about twenty feet in front of me – it was pretty scary! Luckily, a police man drove by shortly after, probably to take care of whatever happened with the plow truck and came to my rescue. I told him what had happened and he told me that he would turn his car around so he could help me out. He drove off, came back, and parked his car. The kind soul got out of his warm vehicle and helped direct the flow of traffic, then once all was clear he gave me directions on how to manuever my car back onto the road. Thanks to this amazing officer, my car was back on the road within minutes, and I made my way back home. It was an extremely terrifying situation to be in, and this is a PSA to everyone: Don’t ride someones bumper in this type of weather! It’s an asshole move no matter what the conditions are outside, but it’s down right dangerous to be ass riding when it’s damn near blizzarding outside. Smh. To give you all a feel for what it’s like in the 330 right now, here’s a few pictures that I took from my window:
^^^ UGH.
This is Lil Red urging all of you to stay safe, whether that be on the road, at home, whatever. This morning was an absolute nightmare, and I’m so thankful that I’m okay. What’s the weather like where all of you are at right now? I’m curious and I wanna hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love and stay warm! -Sarah
Whatupppppp guys! Hope your Thursday is treating you well so far. So, for the past few months I’ve had the exact same song lineup on the tabs that I have on my iPod. These songs are my old faithfuls. I can listen to them literally at any given time during the day and enjoy it no matter what. Some of these songs I’ve known for years and I’m still not sick of them! I’m sure I may have mentioned a few of these tracks at some point during my posts, but some of them are so nice I’ll name them twice. Let’s get started!
The Wombats – “Your Body Is A Weapon”: I absolutely ADORE this song. (So PacSun-y, I know) I love The Wombats too much and this is probably one of my favorite songs by them. The thing is, is that there really is nothing too special about this song – the lyrics aren’t mind blowing and the sound is very similar to everything else that The Wombats do BUT there’s just something about this track that speaks to me. It’s catchy, it’s cool, it’s fun. Whenever I hear it I can’t help but dance to it. In fact I choreographed a pretty cool routine to it. This song puts my heart and body in motion, so I guess that’s the something about this song that speaks to me.
The Knife – “We Share Our Mothers Health” (Ratatat Remix): This is a song that I know I mentioned before, but that’s okay, because it’s fantastic. Ratatat absolutely annihilates this remix. I love that a dark spin was put on this song, it’s so moody and hypnotizing and I can’t get enough. Quite frankly, the remix is infinitely better than The Knife’s original, and that’s really saying something because I love The Knife. So bangin.
Wavves – “Nodding Off”: “Don’t call me friend, I’m not your friend. Don’t call me nothing at all. I stopped waiting for your call – STUPID AND ANNOYED!!!” That lyric basically sums up my entire life, sad but true. This is hands down my favorite song by Wavves. This song used to play during my first year of working at PacSun about four years ago, and I loved it then just as much as I do now. The chorus of the song repeats “gods been nodding off” and I think that it’s absolutely brilliant. That one simple statement sums up how I feel about a lot of shit in my life. With a chorus like that you would think that the song would be melancholy and depressing, but in true Wavves fashion, it’s the perfect mix of surfer rock and straight up fun. I love it forever and for always.
Everything Everything – “Cough Cough”: Yeah. So. Um….wait a second. This track is fantastic. I wasn’t a very big Everything Everything fan until I heard “Cough Cough”. I honestly find their earlier stuff quite annoying, BUT they changed it up with this song and displayed such a fresh mature sound that I dig so much. The lyrics are fascinating and the vocals on this song really are impressive. Usually I never recommend watching music videos because I hate them, but the music video for “Cough Cough” is pretty cool, so definitely check it out.
Juicy J ft. Kreayshawn – “U Trippy Mane”: Lol, this list wouldn’t be complete without a rap song, and this is my jam. Juicy J absolutely slays me and Kreayshawn really isn’t that great but I have a big crush on her so that makes up for her lack of talent. My sister and I play this song in the car all the time and it legit never gets old. “I’ve got so much trip, I fell asleep high. I woke up high. If I’m sober I LIED.” Hahaha, I love it.
Magic Man – “Texas”: Yes, yes, yes, yes. This is hands down one of my favorite songs in the world. Simply gorgeous. This track takes me to a really magical, melancholy place in my mind and it honestly feels like Magic Man picked my brain to write this song. I’ll never forget the first time I heard it at you guessed it, PacSun. I had to stop what I was doing and just listen to it. The lyrics are so poetic and sad but somehow uplifting and joyous at the same time. All I picture in my head is sunsets, summer time, a night sky full of stars, and a blossoming relationship when I hear this song. Some day I hope that someone feels the same way about me that the guys of Magic Man were feeling about someone when they wrote this song. It’s a perfect sentiment of love and it’s too beautiful for words.
Sheppard – “Geronimo”: This one is actually a new song that I added to my lineup. If there’s one thing Lil Red loves, it’s indie pop – and this song is a perfect example of it. Songs don’t always have to be so serious. They can be care free, fun, catchy, and cute and Sheppard displays all of these things effortlessly. I rarely play the radio when I’m driving, I usually just plug my iPod in, but I was running some nearby errands and didn’t bother and I ended up hearing this song. When I hear “Geronimo” I can’t help but smile. It’s a sweet song that puts me in a happy mood, what more can you ask for?
Little Comets – “Joanna”: I. Love. This. Song. I love the vocals, I love the sound, I love the lyrics, I love it all. There’s honestly nothing else I can say about this one. If you chose to listen to any of the songs on here, this is the one you should try. You’re welcome.
Wolf Parade – “I’ll Believe In Anything”: Wolf Parade is one of my all time favorite bands, and this song is astoundingly beautiful. “Give me your eyes, I need sunshine.” That lyric holds a very special place in my heart and soul. All of Wolf Parade’s lyrics are phenomenal, but there’s something about the pure poetry in this song that really speaks to me. This track is absolutely timeless. “I’ll Believe In Anything” is almost a decade old and it still resonates in my very being to this day. Once again, I hate music videos – but, the video for this song is quite good, so make sure you give it a watch.
U2 – “Beautiful Day”: U2 is my number one favorite band in the world. Point blank. Period. I grew up listening to U2 with my parents and loved them as a small child and here I am now, at twenty years old and I love them even more. This song is my everything. It has gotten me through more tough times than I can even begin to tell you. My very first tattoo that I got the day I turned eighteen were actually lyrics from “Beautiful Day” – “After the flood all the colors came out”. That phrase has been my mantra for years now and this song has been my theme song since I was young. I was lucky enough to see U2 in concert in Pittsburgh for their 360 Tour and was in absolute hysterics when they performed this song. To hear my favorite song in the entire world by my favorite band in the entire world live was an experience that I’ll never EVER forget. Perfection.
So there you have it, my old faithfuls! My go to-s, my favorites, my funky time jams. I love these songs so much, and I hope all of you enjoy them just as much as I do! What’s your favorite song in the entire world? What are a few of your old faithful tracks? I’d love to hear from you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Peace out. -Sarah
So! A little known fact about Lil Red is that on the rare occasion that I feel like it, I can cook! This doesn’t happen often, but when it does, I’ve been known to make a pretty bangin meal. Today is a special occasion because my oldest brother, Peter (who lives in Wisconsin) will be home for an entire week because he’s going to be laying down some chemical engineering knowledge at a local college. #boygenius Because I’ve been looking forward to this for weeks, I decided to make a family dinner….apparently excitement makes me want to cook. Go figure. Anyways, I whipped up some Chinese stir fry for the fam this evening and it turned out fabulous. Chinese is always a good option for my family because half of us (including myself) are vegetarian, so there’s a lot of tasty meat free choices to pick from. I normally never take pictures of my food, but I was so proud of this meal that I just had to, so here’s the final result:
Preparing this meal honestly wasn’t hard at all, it just took some time management to finish all of the dishes at the same time. Here’s a list of all of the dishes made by yours truly tonight:
Top Right – Sesame Tofu Stir Fry: This mix included hokkien noodles, steamed snow peas, and tofu with a sesame sauce. I just kind of free styled this one.
Bottom Right – Sweet & Sour Stir Fry: A fantastic mix from Aldi’s was used for this dish. Snow peas, carrots, red pepper, pineapple, and sauce were in this mix. I added the hokkien noodles to this as well to make it a bit more filling.
Middle – Steamed Snow Peas
Top Left – Brown Rice
Bottom Left – Vegetable Spring Rolls
Dinner was a success and my whole family really enjoyed it! I guess I should start cooking more often! Today has been wonderful. School this morning was boring as usual, but I actually learned a lot which was fun, I got tons of homework done this afternoon, and my brother should be home any minute now! There’s only one song that can give the fantastic mood I’m in justice, and it goes a little something like this….
Hahahaha ^^^^ SO, this weekend my mom and I were driving around running errands and she happens to have Sirius radio in her car. There’s a great station on Sirius called “80’s on 8” which plays all of the beloved one hit wonders of the 80’s. Wang Chung’s “Everybody Have Fun Tonight” played when we were in the car and we almost died laughing over the lyric “everybody Wang Chung tonight.” Ever since this past weekend my momma and I have been quoting it, and it’s obviously become our new favorite. EVERYBODY WANG CHUNG TONIGHT!!!!!!!!!!!!! #loveit
Alright guys, I hope you have a fabulous night doing whatever it is that you’re doing! I know I will – Brother/sister time is on the horizon! What’s your favorite meal to cook? What are some of your favorite vegetarian recipes? I’d love to hear from you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah
Lol. Hey guys. So this weekend has been less than ideal, so naturally in true emo kid fashion I’ve been a whiny little bitch. But you know what helped up my angst and make me even more annoying to myself and others? The tried and true emo kid anthems that the world has come to either love or make fun of over the years. I listened to a lot of these tracks over the weekend and found myself rolling my eyes at what a stereotypical emo I was being. AFI? Hawthorne Heights? The Used? Le sigh, it was all there in one big melodramatic bitch fit. So here they are, the “old faithfuls” of Lil Red’s emo world:
Taking Back Sunday – “Liar (It Takes One To Know One)”: Oh yes. This is a good one. I hopped on the Taking Back Sunday train a few years ago, and have NO RAGRETS! (If you’ve seen “We’re The Millers” you’ll appreciate that reference!) But anyways, this song is a fuckin classic. An emo kid staple if you will. This track was popular for me this weekend because it literally calls out the one thing that was causing some of my distress: liars. Who doesn’t love wailing the chorus to this song while pretending you’re screaming it to everyone who’s ever uttered a falsity to you that ended up hurting you in the long run? I love it.
AFI – “Silver and Cold”: The emotional impact that this song has had on me throughout the years is unmatched by probably 99% percent of my music collection. This song came out when I was fourteen and I vividly remember being moved to tears when I first heard it. The true beauty of this song? That it still makes me cry and tugs at my heart strings as if I’m hearing it for the first time. I’ll be a faithful AFI fan until the day I die, and this song is a beautiful testament to who they are as a band. Davey Havok boasts some of the most gorgeous vocals ever and the pure poetry of the lyrics is mesmerizing. I have every AFI album in my collection and this is the first song I always end up playing every time I feel like hearing them. #dedication
Hawthorne Heights – “Ohio Is For Lovers”: Alright, honestly I was going to pick another song from the album “The Silence In Black And White” because I felt that this list was getting too stereotypical. But then I remembered that we’re talking about emo kid anthems here and this song was and still is an anthem for so many people – including myself. I had the pleasure of meeting the guys from Hawthorne Heights when I saw them playing in Akron and they’re so fantastic. So chill and down to earth. J.T. actually gave me his guitar pick which I still treasure to this day. This track has the ability to take me either to a very dark or completely amazing place whenever I hear it. It all depends on my mood – BUT no matter what that mood is, I still absolutely love hearing this song. #ohiorepresent #akrowdy
The Used – “Bulimic”: So emo. So perfect. Everything about this song speaks to me. From the lyrics, the vocals, the instruments, to the title itself this song sums up some very real feelings for me. “I’m about to do all of the things I’ve dreamed of and I don’t even miss you at all.” I absolutely LOVE that. There’s something so empowering about that lyric to me. It’s not in the slightest way profound or well worded but that’s okay. Sometimes the simplest lyrics that everyone is thinking are the best. I love when I have that feeling, that “I’m going to succeed and you can go fuck yourself” feeling. This song makes me sad but it also makes me feel like I can do anything without anyone and that’s why it’s a fantastic emo kid anthem.
Brokencyde – “Schizophrenia”: I only have four words to say for my explanation of this song, and it goes as follows….JUDGE ME FOR IT.
The Front Bottoms – “The Beers”: I know, I know – this is a song that typically wouldn’t fall into the “emo” category BUT this track bums me out, so it’s emo enough for me. “Cause the cops are coming in, a type of sobering up, as the girl who never learned that I could not give a fuck.” That lyric makes me feel some type of way, that’s for sure. Everything about this song just works SO WELL. It’s so melancholy, the guys voice is hypnotizing, and the lyrics are quirky and weirdly profound. “I look in your windows and I am trying not to stare and hold onto hope I’m sure was never even there.” YES. So much yes. That basically sums up my life…minus the staring into windows part. #emokid
Hollywood Undead – “Undead”: Lol I LOVE THIS SONG. I feel like such a badass when I play it. An angsty, mopey, badass….it’s absolutely fantastic. I remember playing this song in the car with my sister and we would just sit around and soak up each others emoness. I admit that the song completely sucks, but that’s okay, because fast forward three years later from cranking this song in the car and I still like it – AND STILL CRANK IT IN THE CAR!!!! SUE ME FOR IT.
Dance Club Massacre – “Murders Come With Smiles”: I have to be in just the right emo mood to wanna listen to Dance Club Massacre, because they’re pretty hardcore. Usually this mood has anger thrown into it, which is the only time I actually want to listen to straight up metal. This track makes me want to scream into a pillow and throw stuff….that’s how you know a song is powerful, right? Metal isn’t one of my favorite genres in the world, but there really is no denying this bands talent. The things that the vocalist can do with his voice are fucking astounding. I WISH that I could do that. Being a metal screamer would be the coolest talent ever to have up the back of your sleeve. Say you’re at a party for example, and someone asks what you like to do for fun. Then you can say something along the lines of “this” and proceed to scream “Murders Come With Smiles” for five and a half minutes.
Cage – “Suicidal Failure”: I fuckin adore Cage. This is actually a rap song for those of you who aren’t familiar with him, but Cage dabbles in horror core a lot, particularly in this track. The lyrics in this song are so raw and disgusting and I love every minute of it. “Cut my wrist and walked past some crips bleedin red
in hopes that I get shot in the fuckin head.” #damn I like playing this song when I’m driving because I’m still emo BUT I feel kind of gangster…it’s a fantastic combination. You should try it sometime.
AFI – “Miss Murder”: If I wanted to, I could make a whole blog post about AFI emo anthems, but I figured putting them twice on this list is good enough. I feel like this song is so loved by emos and non-emos alike, which is great because this song is amazing and deserves to be loved. I had this ex-boyfriend who used to make fun of me for liking AFI because he said they were whiny. But years after we broke up, I posted this video on my Facebook and HE LIKED IT. So even the people who say they hate AFI secretly love them, and I have the proof from that fateful like! This song is terrific. Point blank. Period. Everyone from the super tight pants wearing emos to a sixty year old woman (AKA my mom – she likes AFI!) can get down to this song…and for that…I salute you, AFI.
So there you have it, my top ten Emo Kid Anthems! What songs would you include in an emo kid playlist? What’s your all time favorite emo track? I’m always up for music suggestions and I’d love to hear from you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! -Sarah
Hey guys! So yesterday I had an absolutely lovely day of Valentine’s Day shopping – TJMaxx and Target were very good to me! I had to treat myself like a princess yesterday because no one else did (lol) and no fucks were given…because no one loves Lil Red better than Lil Red! So here’s the purchases that set my bank account back a little farther than I’d like, but it was so worth it!!!
As usual, here’s a list of the brand names of each item. (All of the pieces pictured above are from TJ’s.)
Pointed toe ankle boots: Vince Camuto
Quilted tall boots: Rampage
Lace peasant skirt: Flying Tomato
Harem pants: Japna
I was SO excited when I found my pair of Vince Camuto’s. These beauties were on the clearance rack and I got them for twenty-nine bucks as opposed to the original one hundred and twelve! Such a steal!!! I have a feeling that these are going to be my new go to booties, I seriously plan on wearing them with everything. I’m looking forward to wearing them with my new harem pants, dresses and tights, and of course my black coated skinny jeans (I only wear black coated denim!)! But the beautiful thing about these booties is that they can easily be worn in the summer time as well (which is a nice thing to fantasize about considering it’s a whopping zero degrees in Akron, Ohio -___-). I can’t wait to pair these bad boys with cute little shorts, maxi skirts, and sun dresses all summer long! At Target I found a plain black crop top and a really pretty white lacey one that I tried on but didn’t buy. Naturally, I couldn’t stop thinking about them when I got home, so I went to Target’s website and was so happy to see that the tops were twenty percent off online on top of the extra five percent I get for using my Target Red Card. With all of these deals I got both crop tops for twenty dolla AND I got free shipping. #fabulous I’m pretty hyped about the white crop top because it’s going to match perfectly with my new lace peasant skirt!! It’s gonna look so pretty! :*) I’ve been meaning to get a plain black crop for forever now, so I figured “why not” and bought that too. You can’t beat two for twenty! #treatyoself
^^^ Best shopping themed song EVERRRRR! Jupiter Rising is such a guilty pleasure!
So there you have it, my special Valentine’s Day treat to my favorite gal in the world…ME!!! How did you guys celebrate V-Day yesterday? How did you treat yoself or your significant other? I wanna hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much Love. -Sarah
