How To Plan A Stress Free Home Makeover

Giving your home a makeover is an exciting task. From picking out paint colors to choosing your furnishings, the whole process of redesigning your home can be a lot of fun. The problem is, there are just so many different styles of interior design to choose from, so selecting the right one for your home can be a tough choice.

Without careful planning, a home makeover can become a stressful situation to be in. Taking on a project that is beyond your expertise can be overwhelming, as can committing to too much expense. A home redecorating project should be a positive process, rather than a stressful experience.

No one wants to spend money, time, and effort on a home redesign only to find that the results aren’t what they expected. To beat any expectation versus reality disappointment, it is a good idea to plan your project carefully:

Sort Out the Practicalities:

When you are trying to create the home of your dreams, it can be hard to focus on the practicalities. However, getting the practical side of your redecoration project sorted out leaves you free to concentrate on turning your dreams into reality. It is useful to calculate your budget right from the start, so you know exactly how much cash you have to play with. Without knowing how much you can afford to spend, you could find yourself running out of money before completing the project. This would leave you with a half-finished room, while you try to save more money to finish it.

As well as knowing how much you want to spend on your interior project, you need to work out a realistic timescale. This is particularly important if the room needs to be completed by a set deadline. For example, a baby’s nursery that you want to be completed before your little one arrives.

Home makeovers and renovations can be stressful to handle by yourself. It is not as easy as the professionals on HGTV make it out to be, that’s for sure! Many people turn to interior designers like those at K&L Interior Designers (or a similar business in your local area to take on the task. Interior designers are well versed in providing the practicality your home needs while adhering to your personal style. They will also be mindful of your budget so you don’t end up going over what you are willing to spend.

Identify Your Goals:

Once the practicalities are decided, it is time to think about what you want from the redesign. To identify what you want the room to do, you will need to think about what you currently like about it, and what you would like to change. This could be anything from making it look lighter and brighter or completely changing its use. Or, perhaps, you are tying in general maintenance with your makeover. A drafty front door, for example, could be replaced with custom barn doors in Los Angeles (or a similar product in your local area) for lower heating bills and an instant face lift to your home. These aims will provide you with a starting point for your design and something specific to work towards.

So cool!

Pick Your Style:

Selecting the look of your new room is one of the best parts of the project. Think carefully about what you want the place to look like and then search for some inspiration to help you picture the look more clearly. When choosing a style of interior design, it is useful to think about the overall vibe that you are trying to create. If you want to create a homely feel, then a rustic interior design look will enable you to incorporate some lovely textures for a timeless style. If you are after a boutique hotel type finish, then you will probably be looking for mirrored furniture and silk or plush velvet upholstery.

When you are considering your favorite style, it can be helpful to look at popular past trends and the upcoming 2026 interior design trends. This can give you an excellent starting point but the trick is to make it your own. Use the trends you love and incorporate the things you love that are missing. This could be a funky colored area rug, fabulous art prints or beloved photos, or creating lighting that suits the needs of the room. This way, your space will still feel like your own rather than a staged shot from a magazine.

Prepare the Room:

To be able to redecorate, you are probably going to need to strip the room back to basics so that you have a blank canvas to work with. This means that a lot of items will need to be removed before you even get started. It is useful to declutter the room first. Decluttering will help you to get rid of all the items that you no longer want or need. It will also help you to free up more space in the room.

Once you have decluttered, you will need to move all of the furniture out of the room so that the decoration can begin. Try to plan your space so that you are able to store all these furniture items elsewhere in your home. Anything that can’t be moved will need to be covered so that it avoids any paint splashes or other damage.

Carefully planning your home makeover will make life a lot easier. The whole process will be far less challenging if you know exactly what you want to achieve and how you are going to make it a reality!

Three Simple Home Improvement Projects That Increase Market Value

Three Simple Home Improvement Projects That Increase Market Value

Unless you’re a real estate pro, you might not know how to get the best return on your investment when the time comes to sell your home. For example, did you know that your home could sell for significantly more if you spend a little extra time and money on a few simple improvements? While it may seem counter intuitive to invest money and time into a home you wish to get off your hands, a couple of choice updates and additions to your property could give you a decent return on your investment:

Invest in Exterior Features:

While a home’s exterior features such as the garden, garage, swimming pool, roof, and gutters may seem less important than the interior, ensuring that these features are both operational and attractive to the eye is a great way to add value to your home. Keeping your garden and lawn well maintained will leave a strong impression on any potential buyers who turn up for your viewings. No green thumb? No problem! Professional teams like Calvin Landscape (or a similar company in your local area) can transform your yard for you.

There may be a lot of work on the exterior of your property that you can do yourself, like painting and cleaning gutters. Larger additions will need to be handled by experts who can ensure that installations are done according to spec. For example, a high-quality water tank can be a strong selling point. Tank Direct is a fantastic option for your water tank requirements.

A fresh and well-maintained exterior is a useful way to help a potential buyer imagine the lifestyle their family might enjoy, should they buy the property and move in. Family friendly property can include things like a fenced in yard, shady areas to cool off, and bigger selling points like amazing pool designs, a koi pond, or tree house.

Get Those Repairs Taken Care Of:

While you might imagine that getting your bigger projects done (like a bathroom remodel or retileing the kitchen backsplash) would be more attractive to potential buyers, it’s crucial to put these jobs on hold until any necessary structural repairs have been completed. These will make a tremendous difference when it comes time to put your property on the market. If you don’t, you risk your buyers being too distracted by the leaky ceiling or the odor of mold to even notice the fancy additions like new tiles. Before you get started on those more exciting beautiful additions to your home, make sure you sort out your repairs, whether it’s electrical, plumbing, or structural.

Update The Heating System:

If you install a modern central-heating system in your house or give the existing system a comprehensive update, you’re almost certainly going to enhance your home’s value. Older properties such as Victorian houses are charming in many ways, but your potential buyer won’t be charmed by a chilly walk down the hallway as they try to imagine their life in their future home. Problems like chronically freezing floors can be improved with heated flooring too. If you are considering a renovation with a Bathroom remodeler in Murrieta, CA or your local area, this could be a great addition to those frigid tile floors in the bathroom!

Some newer homes come equipped with somewhat dated heating systems that don’t provide enough warmth, and can cost a lot to run. Updating the old system should prove highly attractive to a potential buyer. An extra bonus you get when you add a new heating system to your home is that if you don’t end up selling the property right away, you will save money and stay warmer while you wait for the right buyer to come along.

Whether you’re listing your property in the near future or you’re planning to sell one of these days, these updates are sure to boost the value of your house!

5 Simple Tips For Adding Value To Your Home

5 Simple Tips For Adding Value To Your Home

Every homeowner will at times think about adding value to their home, and some will even have it as a priority. Often used as a way to move up the property ladder, homeowners are always looking for easy ways to increase the value of their property, but don’t always know the best ways to go about it. It doesn’t have to be complicated, in fact, there are many ways that you can achieve this.

Whether you’re looking to increase the value of your house for resale or you just want to complete some renovation work to get your home looking picture perfect, it’s best to have a look below at some of the simple tips for adding value to your home:

Creating Open Spaces:

If you’re looking for and don’t mind a huge renovation project, then opening up your downstairs living space into an open plan could be one of the best things you can do in order to add value to your home. It’s something that a lot of buyers, especially those with families are looking for. Creating a space that you can enjoy for entertaining both family and friends which will be used and seen as the center of your home can be enjoyed if you’re staying or deciding to move on. What is guaranteed though is that you will be looking for a space similar in your next home!

Gardens & Outside Spaces:

Sometimes the outside areas of your home can be forgotten, however, they should be a priority especially when you’re looking to add value to your home. At the end of the day, the outside of your home is either the first impression before people enter or the only impression that people have of your home as they never go inside. This means it’s not only important to maintain it but it’s also important to make sure it looks its best on the curb appeal side of things.

Whether you need to replace the doors, repair the walkways, or fit a new garage with an electric door you should think about looking at these as an easy way to increase the value of your home. When thinking about the outside spaces you have to make sure you think about the landscaping of your garden, every buyer will look at the garden as a project if you don’t look after it yourself. You could even look at palm trees for sale as a unique item to add as a tropical feature.

Renovate The Bathroom And Kitchen:

Often seen as two big projects in themselves, upgrading your kitchen and bathrooms can add a significant amount to the value of any property. If you’re looking to sell and want to get the best price possible, then renovating these areas will do wonders for you. Buyers will normally have a ‘move in ready’ kitchen and bathroom on their list because after buying a new home they don’t want to have the costs of renovating them themselves.

A bathroom or kitchen renovation can be a big undertaking and there is nothing wrong with doing it in parts. The best thing that you can do if you are considering this type of upgrade is to start planning ahead based on your budget/time frame. Once you have an idea of what you would like, do your research on a Bathroom remodeler in Oregon City, OR or your local area. They will be happy to come by, discuss further, and give you a quote!

Although these can be seen as big projects that you will need to spend time and money on, rest assured that they will definitely increase the property of your home.

Improvements That Could Increase The Value Of Your Home

Improvements That Could Increase The Value Of Your Home

Are you looking for ways to improve your home, but aren’t sure where to start? Making improvements to your home can be extremely satisfying and you can customize it all to your liking. If you are on a limited budget, it can be hard to know which parts of your home should be prioritized when carrying out a renovation. If you are looking for improvements that will help to add some extra value to your home and, potentially make it more appealing to future buyers, these ideas should help:

Replace Your Windows and Doors:

Your home’s windows and doors are one of the first things that people will notice about your house; as they are one of the most prominent features on your home’s exterior. Over time, windows and doors are subjected to the elements and have to withstand everything from heavy snowstorms to the hot sun beating down onto them. It’s little wonder that every now and again it is a good idea to get your windows and doors replaced. As windows and doors are such an integral part of your home and perform such an important role, it is vital to choose replacement windows and doors which are well-made and of the highest quality. Mr. Rogers Windows and Doors offers a fantastic range of replacement windows and doors, which are sure to improve the appearance of any home.

It might not seem like it, but changing your front door can really make a big difference. You will want to make sure what you choose is something that you are going to be completely happy with. Look through ideas on Pinterest or pop on HGTV. Then, enter a search for “discount doors houston” or your local area to see your vision come to life.

Convert Your Loft:

Your loft is a part of the house that has enormous potential. If your attic is currently being used as a storage area, then why not bring it to life and get some real use out of it? Your loft offers endless opportunities for use as an extra living space in your home. Using your loft space to add extra bedrooms and bathrooms can really increase the value of your home, and make it all the more appealing to potential buyers. If you have no immediate plans to sell your home, a loft conversion still has its benefits. All the extra living space that you create makes a perfect place for guests to stay and is ideal if your family is still growing.

Update Your Kitchen:

Changing your kitchen can be a large project to undertake, but it is totally worth it when complete. The kitchen is the heart of the home, so making it a space that is as attractive as it is functional is important. Kitchen renovations can be super expensive, but you can adjust your makeover plans to suit your budget, and still make a big difference to the way your kitchen looks. If you are on a tight budget but still want to change things up, why not simply change the doors and worktops, instead? Replacing the doors and worktops may be cost-effective but can still make a dramatic difference to the overall look of the room.

If you fancy going all-out on redesigning your new kitchen, then you may decide to gut it entirely and start again from scratch. Going back to basics means that you are able to utilize the space better and get the kitchen exactly how you would like it. If you are planning on a full on renovation, search for a kitchen remodeler in Tampa, FL or your local area to get started. The experts will be able to walk you through the merits of additions such as high-end integrated appliances, attractive tiles, and kitchen islands that can really help to add value to your home.

Renovate Your Bathroom:

Alongside the kitchen, the bathroom is the other room in your home that usually costs the most to improve. Due to the costs involved, a beautiful bathroom can have a really positive impact on your home’s value along with how much it appeals to potential buyers. If you have a small bathroom, you may look for ways to redesign it so that it appears bigger and less cramped. This can be achieved by installing a corner bath and corner sink so that less of the floor space is taken up, and every part of the room is utilized.

Be mindful of your budget, make a plan, and soon your house will be feeling brand new with an increased property value, to boot!

The Little Black Book Of Contacts Every Homeowner Should Have

Standard
The Little Black Book Of Contacts Every Homeowner Should Have

When you own your own home, you’re always going to have different roles and responsibilities that you need to stick to. It’s not like renting where you have a landlord to take care of things for you. When things go wrong, you need to know who to call. And not only that, but when you’re renovating or you need some help, it’s good to know what experts and specialists to turn to.

As much as you may think that you can just look for someone at the time or when you need them, in a rushed situation, you may choose the wrong company or person. This is why it’s handy for you to have a list of contacts that you can call when you need the help. Let’s take a look at some you may want to gather:

Handyman:

The first kind of person that you might want to think about getting is a handyman! Do you often have work that needs doing around the home? Do you struggle to do some tasks yourself, like hanging pictures, painting, or repairing things? Then, having a handyman that is skilled at odd jobs is what you need. So do your research and find the best person. Simply entering handyman near me in Screven or whatever city you reside in on a search engine will give you a list of local professionals in your area. It’s also a good idea to ask friends and family for recommendations too!

Gardener:

Next up, you may need to get yourself a gardener. We all know that aiming to take care of your own garden is pretty much a full-time job. And, when you’re busy, you won’t always have the time to mow the lawn or cut hedges. Bringing in a gardener to help you is also a good move when you have no green thumbs!

Tradesmen:

As a step on from that, it’s important for you to know the best tradesmen to have on hand, too. When things go wrong, you’ll want to make sure that you have a list of people that you can call. Here, you’ll want to know the best plumbers, electricians, builders, and any other specialists that you may need.

Housekeeper:

At the same time, if you have a large house and you struggle to get all of the work done, maybe you need a housekeeper or a cleaner to come and help you for an hour or two a week? There’s no shame in that – just make sure you do your research and find someone you like and who you can trust.

Dog Walker:

And, finally, if you have a dog and you work full-time, then having a dog walker might be what you need. Even if you don’t have a full-time job but you have a super busy schedule, finding a great dog walker can feel like such a treat. Then you have one less job to do yourself. Not only that, but you may even want to look for a dog sitter too – or a two in one walker and sitter for when you’re away for the day or a vacation.

Knowing who to call when you need work done is important, so gather recommendations and reviews and assemble your own little black book today!

Things To Do After The Attic Renovation

Standard
Things To Do After The Attic Renovation

Attic renovations are now one of the most common. Whether you intend to use your attic as a bedroom or a place to chill out, chances are that you’ll go down all the usual routes, including contracting builders and seeking permissions. You’ll also need to ensure the flooring can support this change and that you have proper insulation. Within a few weeks, though, you could have a seemingly functional room in your hands.

Sadly, many home owners do renovations for attics only to find that they never spend any time there. That can lead to a lot of wasted time and effort, not to mention wasting a fair amount of cash. And, more often than not, neglect here is down to the fact that we give up on our renovations too soon. Instead of expecting a space you love straight after renovation, then, consider the following crucial steps you should take after your attic conversion.

Take care of your roofing:

First, consider roofing. Failure to do so could leave your conversion cold and damp in no time. Metal roofing could even increase noise levels. If you can’t seem to settle, then, seek a roof inspection. If your clanging metal roof is keeping you up or keeping you cold at night, consider options for ensuring that metal roofs and high winds don’t cause any more problems. And, of course, make sure there are no leaks which stand to waste the money you spent on your renovation in the first place. The faster you act on getting a Roofing Installation expert in, the quicker your renovation can, at last, become the living space you desire.

Remember that the roofing and flooring are the most important parts of your attic transformation. While it is always a great thing to be able to cut costs with DIY, these are tasks to leave to the professionals to ensure everyone’s safety once the renovation is complete. Start by searching online, getting recommendations from friends, or checking out this Aurora roofing company in Colorado if you’re in the area for optimum success.

Flooring:

A renovated attic should feel cozy and like a space you want to spend time in so rough flooring has got to go. You could consider installing carpet or you might want to take a more stylish approach. Sanding down the floors with a professional team can leave a sleek finish. Then, you can enhance the room with plush, luxurious area rugs to add texture and color. To find a team that specializes in sanding, simply enter a search for “Floor Sanding Manchester” (or your local area). This will tie your newly renovated attic together from floor to ceiling.

Find ways to add light:

Once your renovation is complete, you might find that your attic space is pretty dark. No one likes to spend time in a dark room so this alone could leave you unsatisfied. Make sure it doesn’t by considering ways to add more light afterwards. Painting with bright colors is always a good bet, as are mirrors and well-placed lights. When you install these after your attic renovation, it will be a part of the house that you enjoy at last.

attic1

Think about keeping it fresh:

Even after completing roof repairs, you may notice your conversion getting stuffy and damp. In many ways, this is impossible to avoid here. But, there is action you can take. A shop bought dehumidifier is a sure way to keep that air fresh, for instance. Even installing a ceiling fan could bring that breath of fresh air you need to make the room more pleasant to use.

Whatever you do, don’t give up on your attic renovation the moment it’s complete. As you can see, this is an ongoing addition which can take adjustments to get right. You just have to keep going until it becomes as much a part of your home as any other room!

Six Improvements To Make In Your Home

Standard
Six Improvements To Make In Your Home

If you’ve lived in your home for a while, it can sometimes get a little boring having the same furniture and features that you’ve had for years. With general wear and tear, there are improvements that you might look to make when you have the budget and time to do it. So with that in mind, here are six improvements to make to your home:

Reinvent A Room:

Depending on how many rooms are in your property, you may have one or two spaces that are empty or are currently a storage space for extra bits and pieces that don’t have a home. This might be a great opportunity to reinvent a room and turn it into something that could be useful. When clearing out the room, try to declutter as much as possible. Then, look at the size of the space and figure out what might work well. Perhaps a walk in wardrobe or maybe a mini cinema room!

Improve Outdoor Space:

Outdoor space, unless you consider yourself a keen gardener, will often get ignored. It might be that the garden is too high maintenance or you’ve not invested any time or attention into doing it up. No one wants to spend their time in a space that might be messy or ugly to look at. So if you’re looking for ideas to improve your outdoor space, here are a few suggestions:

Be Bold With Color – When it comes to your garden, you can go crazy with color. The brighter the colors, the more appealing the space will look to you and your guests. Also, having a variety of plants and flowers will attract more wildlife.

Install A Pond – A pond is another feature that attracts wildlife and it also feels like you’re giving your outdoor area some extra luxury. When making a pond, make sure to dig the right size and in an area that is easily visible. Make sure the base of the pond and the sides are well sealed before filling it in with water. Add a variety of fish friends, too!

Add Levels And Different Materials – Adding levels and using different materials is what gives your garden space that wow factor. It’ll make your guests think that you’ve really put some effort into the space. Think about using more than just grass, perhaps marble, stones, and bark. Add decking for levels and hire patios builders to help with the more complex work.

Update Your Bathroom:

The bathroom can end up becoming a little dated, especially if you haven’t done anything since you moved. If you can’t renovate the bathroom fully, then start with the smaller items and work your way up. Tiling and painting can help dramatically transform it and adding new taps, a more modern toilet, and a rainfall shower can be the slightly bigger buys later on down the line. Make sure that the room is well ventilated and that you accessorize it with soft furnishings that match the theme of your bathroom.

Rearrange The Furniture:

Improvements don’t need to cost a thing, you can simply rearrange the furniture. When you first moved into your property, you will have likely put everything where you first thought it could go. Now is an opportunity to change up the space a little and rearranging the furniture can make a big improvement without spending any money. Start on each room individually and try changing the position of the biggest piece of furniture. If that’s not possible, then look at moving the smaller pieces of furniture and seeing if that makes any difference. To finish it off, replace or update your soft furnishings, and it’ll feel like stepping into a new room.

Renovate Your Kitchen:

Kitchen renovations are sometimes necessary as it’s one of the most used places in your home. Therefore, the wear and tear will be clear on most of your appliances, particularly your everyday essentials like the kettle and oven. Kitchen cabinets are also the first things to fall off their hinges. Kitchen renovations are expensive but well worth the investment. It might also be financially beneficial to get it done if it needs doing as it can add value to your property if you sell it at any point in the future. Even if you start with replacing or painting the cabinets, that’ll make a difference. To begin your kitchen renovation, simply enter a search for “Queens kitchen renovations” (or your local area). The professionals you choose will be able to work with your vision while using their own expertise for an end result that is both functional and aesthetically pleasing.

Insulate Your Property:

Insulation is important to your property, especially during the colder months. Overall, it helps to keep the heat in and the cold out. This can also save you a lot of money further down the line as you’re likely to save on energy because of it. So, to insulate your property, make sure your windows are either double or triple glazed. Insulate them with heavier blinds or curtains. Darker colors are going to attract sunlight which should, in turn, make your rooms a lot warmer. Insulation doesn’t need to be expensive as there’s a range of materials that are available at different costs. Try insulating your walls if possible and the loft space. If you have the DIY skills, you can always try it yourself, but it might be handy getting in a professional to do it.

Adding improvements to your home can help your space feel brand new, like when you first moved in. Change things up and see the difference for yourself!

Refresh The Parts Of Your Home That Fade First

Refresh The Parts Of Your Home That Fade First

It’s a sad feeling when the home you once loved and cherished is fading away, but it will no doubt get to the point sooner or later. New home or not, the general wear and tear that it faces will lead you to want something more. You might even consider moving homes to something a bit more modern but, even then, the cracks will begin to show eventually, and it could be one of the biggest regrets of your life. Because we know how easy it is to think that a new home will be one without problems but, in fact, they can sometimes have more!

So, when you do feel like your home is beginning to fade, you need to think about how you can perk it back up again and make it look like a million dollars. It’s easy enough to bring an aging home back to life, you just have to think about the parts of your home that are fading first and what you’re going to be able to do about it. Luckily for you, we’re on hand to help and we think these top tips will bring a fading home back to life.

The Windows & Doors:

If you think about how often you mess with all of the windows and doors in your home, it should come as no surprise to you that they’re going to be one of the first things that fades away. It’s so easy for them to become chipped or damaged, especially the fragile paint that you’ll usually find surrounding your windows. Vinyl windows are the best thing that you can bring into your home and they’re going to look so good compared to your old ones if you feel like they’re wasting away. Plus, having new windows and frames installed is only going to improve the green side of your home, meaning you might just notice those bills dropping a bit more than you thought!

The Interior Decor:

The interior decor is going to be something you hold very close to your heart. You have your own style and we’re not about to try and change that. But, we do think that it’s so important that you take some time to update it yearly. Wallpaper may last two years or so, but after that it just becomes outdated. And if you inspect it closely enough, you will notice the wear and tear. So keeping it fresh every single year is a must and you have to admit that redecorating isn’t that expensive and is so fun once you get into it. You’ll often find that fresh decor is all you’re going to need to spruce your home up.

The Vibe:

The vibe of your home was probably something electric when you first started out. You had so much going on, so much happiness, and there just would have been a buzz about it. But, now, things can easily change when you realize how hard owning a home is and how the novelty wears off after a few months. But, there’s no reason why you shouldn’t host monthly gatherings to keep a good vibe going in your home. As long as you surround it with fun, you will feel great!

With spring just around the corner, give your home a little makeover and watch it come back to life in full bloom.

How To Set Up A Welcoming Guest Room

Standard
How To Set Up A Welcoming Guest Room

If you have guests staying with you, then you want to make them feel both welcomed and comfortable during their visit. In a previous article, https://lifewithlilred.com/how-to-prepare-your-home-for-guests/, we provided you with some general tips on preparing your home for your guests but, in this post, we are going to go into greater detail on the guest room itself:

#1: Provide essential furniture

You don’t want your guests sleeping on a mattress on the floor or living from their suitcase. In terms of feeling welcomed, that isn’t very welcoming at all! You need to provide those pieces of furniture that should be considered essential. We are, of course, talking about a comfortable bed, a dresser for their clothes, and a mirror, so they can beautify themselves in the morning before joining you for breakfast. You can buy all of this and many more essential pieces of furniture at discounted rates at https://shopdiscountdirect.com/shop/bedrooms; perfect for you if you’re on a budget! Alternatively, shop around online or on the high street but, for the sake of your guests, do try to get the best that your money can buy.

#2: Clear the room

If your guests are staying for an extended period, you should clear the room of any clutter or personal possessions pertaining to you. Clear table spaces for their personal items and ensure that there is enough floor space for their bags, etc. When it comes to the guest room, less is more, so don’t over stuff it with things you think they might like. Stick to the basics, such as a clock, calendar, and the furniture we mentioned, and let your guests have the room to make it just how they like during their stay.

As you clear the guest room of any personal clutter, you might find that these items are cluttering the rest of the house! Fear not and and consider smart storage furniture in the guest room as you remodel it. Furnishings from millie and jones, for example, often feature storage options built directly into their bed frames. You will be able to tuck your own mementos away and prevent it from overflowing into other spaces in your house.

#3: Focus on comfort

Okay, so you have bought them a bed, but don’t forget to buy a comfortable mattress, too. And remember to buy quality bed linen, pillows, mattress toppers, and extra blankets to add to their comfort level. If they are staying for a while, you should also have extra bed sheets and pillowcases available, with the option of room service if you are happy to change their bedding for them! Aside from the bed, consider putting an extra armchair or a small sofa in there, as well. Alongside a table and a lamp, they will then have somewhere to relax in the room, without having to sit on the bed when they are in the need for some alone time.

#4: Provide a home away from home experience

You might need space away from your guests at certain times of the day and, with no offense to you, they might need personal time with their own company too! Therefore, give your guests a room that is worth living in. A miniature refrigerator stocked with drinks and snacks will satisfy them should they need refreshments. You might include tea and coffee facilities too, as well as a bowl of fruit, cookies, and other snacking items.

Then, think about giving your guest something to do in the room. Perhaps a magazine rack stocked with the latest editions or a bookshelf with both fiction and non-fiction. You could also add a television and DVD player with films and box sets to go with them. Finally, a desk and chair which will be useful if your guests are bringing their computers with them to do some work during their stay.

After putting some effort into creating a welcoming guest room, your guests will want to return to you again and again. Unless, of course, you are trying to deter anybody from staying with you. In which case, do as we told you not to, and give them that mattress on the floor of your cluttered room! Of course, we’re sure you’re not that unkind!

Bathroom Brainwaves

What’s your favorite room in your home? Is it your kitchen where family and friends gather round to eat, drink, and chat? How about your bedroom, a haven away from the hustle and bustle of a busy day? Maybe it’s your bathroom, where soaking the dust and smells of a day at work is your favorite way to unwind. Unless, of course, your bathroom is not in the best shape and has you racing through your bedtime routine to avoid the moldy tiling and leaking shower.

If that’s the case, then you need to think about creating a bathroom that provides more than just running water and gives you the tranquil haven you deserve. How to go about this transformation? We’re about to talk you through your bathroom overhaul:

Plan to succeed:

Do your research, read the posts from lifestyle bloggers and decorating gurus, and start creating a reasonable and budget friendly plan. You certainly don’t have to spend thousands on your makeover, but you do have to have a realistic budget in mind before you start. There’s nothing more frustrating than starting a job and then abandoning it halfway through as the money runs out and you have to begin saving again.

Start the work in a logical sequence. This means the messy stuff has to happen first, such as removing unwanted bathroom furniture, tiles, and so on. Once you’re done there, you’ll probably want to start repainting the walls. Think creatively, not all bathrooms have to be a brilliant white and you might opt instead to wallpaper one wall or paint it another neutral color. Try choosing contrasting colors from your bathroom essentials to create a striking juxtaposition.

Pick a priority:

Are you more of a long soaker or a shower kind of person? Whichever you prefer, why not treat yourself to a luxury bathroom suite that’s going to last and give you pleasure for years to come? You don’t have to spend a crazy amount on a new suite. You might find plenty of options online and in second hand stores or salvage yards.

Start getting excited today about transforming this room in your house. Keep an open mind on how and where you source your bathroom furniture from and keep costs down by doing as much of the work that you can yourself. If you’ve got friends and family that can help, tempt them in with the reward of food and beer!

Plan the refurb properly and have everything that you might need in place before you start. If you’re unsure about your DIY skills, then find a YouTube video that will provide you with some top tips to get you started. Then, once you’re done, you can sink into a bubble-filled bath, shutting out the outside world, proud in the knowledge that you’ve created your new favorite room in the house. Just be sure to get in ahead of the rest of your household who’ll also want to make the most of your decorating skills!
