Getting The Basics Right With Your Business Website

When you’re trying to make a startup work, few elements of the process are as important as running a functional website. It’s close to impossible to have a fully offline startup these days and it’s hard to know why anyone would want to. However, if you don’t manage the website properly, you’ll be pretty close to invisible online so it’s important to devote time and effort to your digital presence.

Of course, it won’t be a shock to anyone that the website is important. There’s a wealth of tools out there that can be used to make your website stand out more, to display information about your global reach, and to showcase your business down to the finest detail. It’s easy to get bogged down in all the little tricks and gimmicks that take your website up a level. What a lot of startup entrepreneurs seem to forget is that all of this counts for very little if you don’t get the basics right. Follow the tips below to understand better what the way forward is:

Get the domain name right:

Sometimes, you can navigate to a business website without even looking it up – because you know what it’s going to be. That’s the power of having a unique name and owning the domain that attaches to it. It’s no exaggeration to suggest that it’s worth changing your business name (after all, it’s a startup) if that’s what it will take to get an appropriate URL. Bear in mind that the domain should be memorable, succinct, and clear. If it’s a really long name or there are hyphens in it, people are liable to leave it alone and look for something else.

See the value of the right hosting:

Your website is your shopfront on the internet so it’s important to make sure it is in working order, that it looks right, and that downtime is kept to a minimum. Managed hosting from the likes of www.nestify.io is a worthwhile investment, because they will ensure that your site is functioning as it should, warning you of any cyberattacks, and keeping the site online. Proactive hosting like this will identify and remedy issues before you (or worse, a customer) have even noticed there’s a problem. Knowing that the hosting is handled allows you to focus on what you’re best at.

Set out your mission statement front and center:

It’s not uncommon to see websites that feature flashy graphics, dynamic text, and all sorts of tricks. These sites can be visually impressive. Indeed, there’s nothing wrong with a bit of wizardry, but bear in mind that you need to be setting out what the website and your business is all about. A strong mission statement should be among the first things your potential customers see. It’s also a handy place to put some of your SEO features and keywords, which will help the search engines find you – which is what you need to grow your business.

While the basics of running a successful website may seem boring, it is the best place to start. Having a strong base will provide you with opportunities for bigger and better things to come!

Rachel Zoe Tank Top Set

Rachel Zoe Tank Top Set

Hi! Lil Red loves ultra unique statement pieces, which means that more basic items often get overlooked in my wardrobe. What is lacking in essentials is made up for with a bunch of crazy shoes, though lol! While I always mean to get closet must haves while shopping like tanks and neutral options, it never quite works out that way. Until my trip to TJMaxx with my mom, that is.

At TJs, I found the literal best tank tops I have ever worn by Rachel Zoe. My only regret? That I didn’t get a backup of the set of two that I purchased! Check it out:

When I first saw this black and white tank top set, I just had to try it on. Normally, I would acknowledge the cuteness of these tanks and move on. However, I loved the convenience of the set of two, the ribbing, and the thick straps. Peek a boo bra straps are always an issue for me and knowing that it wouldn’t be a problem with these tanks made me eager to give them a shot. Who wants to adjust themselves all summer long? Pas moi!

I wasn’t expecting to feel so good in just a tank top but I really was blown away as soon as I had it on in the fitting room. These Rachel Zoe tanks fit like a dream and are quite slimming thanks to the vertical stripes and ribbing. The tank flattered my body without feeling too tight and there were no bra straps to be seen. 😀

Rachel Zoe clearly drew inspiration from a classic wife beater but she turned it on its head and made it *fashion*. The shorter length, tighter fit, and ribbing all helped the cause. However, the best part of these tanks is the appearance of the material. In my opinion, it almost looks sweater like when it is really just rayon! My new tanks will definitely help me stay cool this summer while still making me feel chic and I never thought I would say that about a basic piece before.

It has been brutally hot in Ohio these past several days with temperatures in the nineties and I have already made great use of my purchase because of it. These essential tanks are universally flattering while still having a little something extra to them and I am so there for it. Like I said, I wish I bought two sets and I highly recommend them!

What are some essential must haves in your wardrobe? How do you add spice to basic pieces? I want to hear from all of you, so leave me a comment and let’s chat! Much love. -Sarah

Ankle Grazers:

If they worked for Audrey Hepburn, then chances are that they are going to work for you too. It is a smart option instead of jeans or leggings and can go from the office to the bar with ease. They work well with sneakers, brogues, or even a heel.

Blouse:

The power of the blouse is so underestimated. They go with skirts, jeans, or black dress pants and can be casual or smart. If you like adding color and patterns into your daily outfits, then go for a retro style. They don’t have to be pricey, and you can pick up some really nice silk ones in thrift stores.

Classic Leather Belt:

The right belt will last a lifetime. And, it gets really frustrating to be pulling up your jeans all the time! A will leather goods belt will upgrade your casual jeans and a t-shirt without any effort required, and you can match them with your bag or shoes. Simple and effective.

Flats:

Ballet flats are here to stay. They are light on your feet so are perfect for heavy use and will work with every outfit that you can think of. Having them in a couple of colors is going to give you more selection, but in general navy, black, and nude will be just right.

T-shirts:

Grabbing a range of t-shirts in whatever color you like best is a great idea. They work well under blazers, with jeans, or with black ankle grazers. And, of course, make for perfect loungewear, too!

Tube Skirt:

Or any type of midi with a bit of a stretch is perfect. They are easy to slip on and if you’ve gone all out on a big meal, they will stretch with you! H&M has some great ones in their basic range.

Sunglasses:

Not only do they protect the skin around the eyes, but they cover a multitude of sins. While you are getting yourself some sunnies, make sure you grab an excellent case for them and keep them in your bag at all times. Tired but have somewhere to be? Sunglasses. Bright outside and you need some extra protection? Sunglasses. Don’t feel like being social? Sunglasses. There is a pair to suit all face shapes, so don’t worry if you don’t usually wear them – invest and you’ll never look back.

Big Tote:

A big tote bag can carry pretty much your whole house in it. Great for everything from folders to tablets and everyday essentials like wallet, phone, and keys. Get one that matches some of your shoes and your belt to tie in any look that you want to create.

Having essential staples in your wardrobe will keep you from having the “nothing to wear” phenomenon and will keep you looking oh so chic!
