Walmart Entertainment Haul

Hellooo everyone! As we all know, Lil Red absolutely cannot refuse the five dollar movie section in any store I go to. I am a huge lover of having DVDs readily available to pop in during a night at home and if I am entertained for the evening, then I consider it money well spent. During an outing with a client at Walmart, I ended up doing some shopping myself and wound up with the following flicks as well as a game that I have been holding off on purchasing. Take a look:

One of my client’s families introduced me to the game Sequence last year and it is so much fun to play. Part luck and part strategy, you basically have to draw cards and place a chip on the card’s spot on the board. Like Bingo, you need five chips in a row to score a point. Sequence is a wonderful game to play as a team or one on one and I am looking forward to bringing it to the next game night I go to!

Now, for the movies:

Jigsaw: I needed to add this one to my collection since I already have Saw one through seven. Was it the best? No. But I’ll definitely watch it again.

Spy: I never say no to anything Melissa McCarthy and was so happy to find Spy way marked down because it is one of my favorites!

Moonlight: This movie was a must for me because I have never seen it and have heard nothing but amazing things. I also loved Mahershala Ali in Green Book and am eager to see him in what I heard was another outstanding performance.

Paul Blart Mall Cop 1 & 2: Lol, I know, I know. BUT, in case you guys weren’t aware, there is a little thing called “Blart Side Of The Mall” where Paul Blart 2 is synced up to Pink Floyd’s album, “Dark Side Of The Moon”, and it is absolutely hilarious. My boyfriend and I split a gut laughing to it and I am so excited to watch it again!

Baby Driver: I’ve been meaning to buy this movie for a while because it has a fantastic soundtrack that I know my boyfriend will appreciate. It was also so cool to see so many motions by the actor’s synced up to each song. Action packed, all star cast, and Ansel Elgort couldn’t be any easier on the eyes if he tried. šŸ˜‰

I am so pleased with my Walmart haul and can’t wait for my next movie night in!

February 2020 Funky Time Jams

Howdy! We are flying through February and are already onto our second Funky Time Jams post of 2020. Crazy! January lasted forever and February has felt like a whirlwind of work, appointments, and all Super Bowl everything. I, myself, was a huge fan of the half time show and have been on a bigger Shakira kick than usual and have found myself revisiting all of JLo’s classics, too. Let’s get to it:

This month, blackbear’s “Hot Girl Bummer” has been my absolute number one Funky Time Jam. I heard it a few weeks ago on my way to work and it was stuck in my head all day but then I forgot about it. Then, as luck would have it, it showed up on my YouTube playlist and I must have listened to it at least one hundred times by now. It’s so different than the normal pop or rap hits that I’ve heard because of its electronic beat and I am one hundred and fifty percent there for it.

Now, as I mentioned before, I thought the Super Bowl half time show was an amazing success. Normally, not a day goes by where I don’t think about Shakira at least once (lol), so imagine that constant loop going on in my head all day every day post Super Bowl!

Of course, I was thrilled when she began performing Hips Don’t Lie because I’ve always loved that song. And it makes it even more fun to hear it now because when I’m ice dancing the Cha Cha I always skate to it. Hips Don’t Lie and the Cha Cha ice dance music happen to have the same beats per minute and nothing makes me feel more saucy than skating to Shakira. Everyone should try it some time. šŸ˜€

Howdy! The Roaring 20s are officially among us and, despite a little flu bug I caught, the new year has started out strong. New tattoos, a raise at work, and some exciting happenings coming up on lifewithlilred have me excited to see what 2020 holds for me next. If you’re anything like me, though, you need a soundtrack depending on your mood and January has been full of happy, poppy tunes for me to play as I go about my day. Take a listen:

At the end of 2019, I couldn’t turn on the radio without hearing “Roxanne” by Arizona Zervas and I am still not over it, obviously! I listen to it at least once a day because it is so damn catchy and it’s the perfect song to sing along to because of the repetitive lyrics. I drive a lot for my job and nothing breaks up the monotony of being stuck in traffic or driving the same route than a good old fashioned session of karaoke in the Little Red Love Machine!

Roxanne has been my go to to bump in the car or in my apartment but I have also been on the biggest Cobra Starship kick that I’ve had since high school. Don’t ask me why, but for some unknown reason I had the urge to listen to them while I was getting ready for work and that desire has yet to go away. Am I mad about it? Slightly, lol. But, there’s no denying that they had some definite bangers during their run as the scene kid heroes. šŸ˜€

Hello everyone! We are in the final stretch of 2019, which is so crazy to me! It seems like just yesterday that we were ringing in the new year. Now is the time to make your final holiday preparations, decide on your new year’s resolutions, and do what you can to finish up 2019 strongly. So, allow me to suggest some tunes as you work on wrapping up the month and year:

This past month, my boyfriend and I watched the Motley Crue movie called The Dirt. Now, mind you, I have never listened to them before in my life but my man is a fan so I decided to give them a go. And, despite all of them being batshit crazy, their music sure is catchy! They actually just announced that they’re going to start touring again so if they come anywhere close to my neck of the woods, I think that Johnny and I are going to go!

And, speaking of concerts, we will be attending the Marilyn Manson and Ozzy Osbourne show in Pittsburgh this coming year, compliments of Johnny’s Christmas gift to me! I am so freaking excited because this will make it the third time I’ve seen Marilyn Manson perform and it never gets old.

Finally, I just had to pepper in some new years themed songs amidst all of the crazies listed above for your enjoyment. Happy last month of the year!

Howdy! We are moving right along in November and the holiday season will be officially upon us in the blink of an eye! The weather is cooling down, the Christmas shopping has begun, and some of you might already be thinking about your New Year’s Resolutions. November is undoubtedly a busy month full of the hustle and bustle of family gatherings and plenty of cooking. It can also be a bit of a stressful time if that really isn’t your thing, so allow these fiery, fiery jams to keep you sane in the midst of it all!

So, I don’t know if any of you have seen this hilarious video of Bill Hader dancing but it has become quite the thing on social media and people have began playing a wide variety of music over the video. From Smash Mouth and Michael Jackson to Lil Nas X and Britney Spears, the joy of the video is that his dancing literally goes with any song. This includes “Don’t Trust Me” by 3OH!3 and ever since bearing witness to it, I have been on the biggest kick of their music a la freshman year of high school 2008. It amazes me that I still know all of the lyrics to their songs and it definitely makes my crazy amount of driving for work much more tolerable!

Also, do be sure to check out the video at the top for “Stoned & Lonely” by my boyfriend’s band The Outside Voices. Shooting this music video was an absolute HOOT so see if you can spot your favorite Lil Red hanging out and give their page some love. ā¤

Howdy! We are flying through October and I have been loving every minute of it. Well… except for the first week of the month when we were still experiencing NINETY DEGREE temperatures in Ohio. It was absolutely miserable! But, the weather has since cooled down and all of the outdoor fall activities can officially commence. Here’s what I’ll be playing on my way to the haunted houses this month:

The University Of Akron has a radio station called Z88 and every Thursday and Friday they participate in Throwback Thursday and Flashback Friday. Both of these days just so happen to be when I work about five minutes away from my apartment, so I never bother to plug my iPod in and opt for the throwback bangers, instead. It is so much fun to hear songs from over a decade ago that you still manage to know all of the words to and it definitely rekindles a desire to listen to them all on repeat.

It has been recently announced that Jennifer Lopez and Shakira will be performing at the Super Bowl halftime show and I’m honestly not sure how I feel about this. Not that I don’t love them both but, it’s not like they have come out with anything new recently and they’re not particularly relevant in the music scene right now. Despite my ambivalence to this lineup, it sure as shit hasn’t stopped me from bumping Hips Don’t Lie every chance I get!

Groovy Movies: Walmart Haul Edition

Howdy! Le sigh, you guys all know I can’t resist the five dollar DVD section while out shopping. I seriously just can’t help myself and it’s an absolute curse. But, there are worse things that I could be addicted to so I guess I’m not complaining. While shopping with a client, I accidentally went a bit too hard at Wally World and ended up with this big ol’ haul. Check it out:

I know, I know six movies is a bit excessive – but how can you say no to such an excellent selection for a whole five bucks?! The answer is, that you don’t… obviously. I am a HUGE Melissa McCarthy fan and haven’t seen Life Of The Party yet so I figured I’d snag that. And, of course, anything with Will Ferrell and fine ass Mark Wahlberg is fine by me! Daddy’s Home is hilarious, so that will make for a fun night in.

Now, a Lil Red Groovy Movie haul wouldn’t be the same without some scary ones so getting A Nightmare On Elm Street and It was a must. I am eagerly awaiting seeing It Chapter 2 in theaters so I plan on watching the first one and the original beforehand. Also, for those of you who haven’t seen There Will Be Blood, PLEASE DO, because it is a masterpiece. Alright, Party on, Wayne!

Scarf Series: Grandma’s Hand Me Downs Edition

Hellooo everyone! We all know that I love dressing for colder weather and one of my favorite things in doing so are the accessories. I love hats, scarves, fingerless gloves, and faux fur to keep myself cute and cozy all fall and winter long. I adore my knitwear and there’s no denying that but there is also something so very chic about a silk scarf tied in a knot around your neck while sporting your best peacoat. So, I was very excited when my dad bestowed some of my grandma’s (his mom’s) scarves onto me. Check them out:

I have plenty of hats from my mom’s mom but I really have nothing like that from my dad’s mom, so I was incredibly happy to have something of hers that I can wear. These vintage scarves will be the perfect accessory with blazers and moto jackets to add a unique touch as well as making me feel like I’m getting a hug from a loved one all day.

My favorite scarf above is definitely the last one with the flowers in bright, springy colors to bring some sunshine during the grey winter months. You’re talking to the girl who wears black ninety-nine percent of the time BUT, even I’m not opposed to some pops of color every now and then! I am so thankful to have these scarves in my collection and am looking forward to wearing them all very soon. šŸ™‚

Hello everyone! September is always a happy month for me because I know that fall is just around the corner and that means my favorite season will commence. It is also when my family normally takes our annual vacation, which all of you will be reading the highlights of very soon! So, this month’s funky time jams is all about my go to road trip music because my dad refuses to fly anywhere, lol. Take a listen:

When it comes to road trip music for me, it is all about the songs that I can sing along to. These are the ones that entertain me the most and help the time seem to go faster during grueling double digit hours of driving. I have been on a HUGE girl power kick lately with a lot of Christina Aguilera, Rihanna, Madonna, Lizzo, and, of course, none other than Britney Spears. Nothing makes a drive more fun than dancing along to your favorite girl power anthems that make you feel like a strong, independent woman who don’t need NO man!

Road trips also give me time to revisit old favorites, which usually includes listening to every album by The White Stripes ever as well as U2, Modest Mouse, Wolf Parade, Arcade Fire, and Los Campesinos. It’s so easy to get lost in a marathon of some of your tried and true go to’s and, before you know it, another hour has passed by. šŸ˜€

Autumn Must Haves & Favorites

This is a special blog, as a fellow blogger called lifewithlilred was looking for guest bloggers for fall. I jumped at the chance as her blogs are amazing and I have been following her for aĀ while now. So, I got in contact with Sarah and we discussed what would be a great blog to do andĀ this is the outcome.

As summer is over and we are now entering autumn, I wanted to share with you my must haves and my favorite things about autumn for me, and I hope down belowĀ you will share your must haves and your favorite things in this incredible season we are entering.

Lets start with my must haves for the season, this is exciting because it meant going shopping for autumn, which I loved, as did my partner.

Boots: I recently brought a new pair of ankle boots from KurtĀ Geiger, which I fell in love with. IĀ believe you should have at least one pair of boots for the upcoming cold weather. I also have a pair of knee high and over the knee boots for different outfits.

Outer Layer: I have a fine knit poncho in an asymmetrical pattern, as the weather is starting to cool and that extra layer is needed but you donā€™t want a full on winter coat yet.

Knitted Tights: Iā€™m not one to wear a lot of trousers apart from the couple of pairs of jeans I have so having a variety of knitted tights is great for protecting my legs with all of my dresses and skirts that I wear.

Over the Knee Knit Socks: For those days where I donā€™t want tights but still want something to protect my legs.

Basic T-Shirts: Having these basic items help with layering and I recommend getting them in at least black and white.

Jeans: I may not wear a lot of trousers but I have at least one pair of good jeans for the colder weather, plus they are a basic and a great starter to build and create numerous outfits.

Turtle Necks: These are my favorite during the colder weather as I use them as layers underneath dresses or with skirts. They look fab and stylish while also providing warmth.

Lip Balm: With the colder air coming, avoid having cracked lips by keeping them moist with a lip balm.

Hand/Body Moisturizer: With the colder air, the same happens to your skin as it does with your lips so having a good moisturizer helps protect and hydrate your skin.

Dark Red/Purple Lipstick: Autumn always makes me want to wear my dark red and purple lipsticks as they look so fab with all outfits for the season.

Cozy Slippers: Keeping my feet warm is very important with my health issues so a comfy cozy pair of slippers helps do just that.

Vanilla and Spiced Fragrances: I love these scents during the colder weather and they just seem to warm up the environment while smelling lush and inviting.

These are my must haves for autumn but the reason why I love the season so much is because you get to watch the cycle of life and get to experience the most amazing colors all around you. I also love autumn because it is my favorite season to dress for. I get so many ideas and get to be creative with styling. My partner is looking forward to this, too, as he really enjoys picking clothes for me. The colors are super lush and you can create some super dramatic and amazing outfits all just by layering.

Iā€™m looking forward to the cozy nights with home cooked meals as well as the walks in the evenings and weekends. And, of course, stepping on the fallen crunchy leaves while enjoying the sunsets where the evenings are getting darker more quickly. Autumn is a magical season. It’s not boiling hot like the summer and not freezing cold like the winter and you can still go out and enjoy yourself without experiencing such extreme temperatures.
